  [upbeat music] Oh, yeah.
• 0:17
Feel the funk, y'all. It is that funky groove. Introducing you to Full Spectrum Cycling, Show number 337. [upbeat music] Woo-hoo-hoo. Is this, uh- It's almost LEET, man. Is this Smoke and Mirrors doing this intro?
• 0:31
[clapping] Or is this AM? No, no, there's somebody clapping for it, though, 'cause I just hit that button. [upbeat music] Is it? Uh, no, this is the, this is the Right in the Box, uh, road whatever. Interesting.
• 0:41
It got, it, who knows. Smoke and Mirrors- Again, I-... sounds a lot like this... I, I have slacked on getting the thing back on there, but that's all right. We'll, we'll work on that. So yeah, Show 337.
• 0:50
I don't know, we could almost make the whole show about the number 337. Yeah. You get it in the white form, it's one of the boner pills. Oh, geez. Tell that to Nan- Oh, geez... definite little- Oh, geez.
• 1:01
I, I was just thinking you add the two threes together, you end up with six seven. Oh. Oh, there's that. And if you add three and three and seven, you get- 13... 13. Oh. It's also a prime number. It is. Yeah. It is.
• 1:16
And if you take, y- you, and it's- Optimus Prime number... kind of shorthand for LEET, the 1337, LEET- Wow... short for elite. Like I said, there's a lot. Yeah, we could just keep going.
• 1:26
So do you wanna go into the numerology part? [laughs] Not really. It's the- Oh, it's an angelic number... it, it's the, it's the loneliness that follows success- Oh... apparently. Yes. This is in your [laughs] books.
• 1:38
[laughs] Okay. Geez. Um- My old friend. [laughs] On the, on the prime number part reminds me of, of next door when they have their, uh, whatever they call it, nerd bingo. 'Cause
• 1:49
you, if there's a prime number, they ask a question, and if it's- Yeah... in your bingo winning bingo line, you have to answer their question. Hmm. Or you don't get no winnings. Hmm. So it goes to the next person. Yeah.
• 2:06
That's kind of a clever thing, I guess. Yeah, except I, I remember doing that once, and they were hitting the primes, and then math is not my- Yeah... strong suit. So I'm just like, "Oh, okay.
• 2:15
Are you just asking for epsilon or, you know, something in the Greek alphabet?" [laughs] That I had no idea what the hell you were talking about. [laughs] So- Ah... I don't know.
• 2:23
We get- I'm just sweating, sweating, sweating... look at JK with the, with the PIL shirt on. Tomorrow night- Tomorrow... or yesterday when you're listening to us.
• 2:29
Yeah, it's- I got a happy birthday message from PIL in my inbox. Oh, nice. It was nice. Very good. Nice. All it was was their logo and saying, "Happy birthday." [laughs] And to you- Well done. Why not?... Mr. President.
• 2:40
Yeah. Hey, I didn't care. That's Tony Bur- It's not the first time you've done that on the podcast, you know? Well, that's just- I know... one of those- You're, you're actually channeling Marilyn... my birthday thing.
• 2:48
Ah. That's, uh, Tony Burger there with the, uh, with the, is that an Alien Andre shirt? W- WAlien Andre. That's an Alien- We heard that he's, uh, having some issues- Yeah, mm-hmm... so we're wishing him all the best.
• 2:57
We're, uh, well, I got the new, this is the new WMSC. What do they call that? 45 years. That's sort of the, sort of the rat fink thi- wait, there's my shifter over here. [laughs] Yeah.
• 3:08
Unless you're, you know, driving in, in the UK or Australia. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. They still got centers, you just gotta use the other hand. Is that a GTO? I don't know. I'm not the guy that drew it.
• 3:20
Kinda looks like a Chevelle to me, actually. Could be. I think whoever drew it is the guy's car. It's his car- It's his car... I think, so. That's a Chevelle. It's a Ch- didn't you have a Chevelle? Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
• 3:32
That's why I know [laughs] what it is. I think we talked about that before. [laughs] Oh, man. Well, it's only been two weeks, but heck of a lot of stuff's happened. No hell, in that following weekend, geez. Ah. Oof.
• 3:42
That was a pa-pam, pam, pam, pam-pam. That was a heavy, heavy hitter. Yeah. Well, we, so that was good that it all got packed into that one, 'cause this past one was a little rainy. Let's see.
• 3:53
Past week was a little rainy. But still packed. [laughs] Yeah, no doubt. Uh, well, it's almost, uh, it's almost winter now, so you gotta, gotta get your, your stuff in. Fucking feels like it.
• 4:03
The, uh, the show I thought was Monday is actually Tuesday. The radio, radio show's [laughs] tonight since- Oh... we're doing this on Tuesday. And like- So is Waves Chappelle. Oh, huh, wow, lots of stuff going on.
• 4:15
And Bellends are on the MSC Local Live. Mm. Not live, not- Oh... in-person live. Right, right. But- Yeah... on the airwaves live too. You can check them out on the archives, which I will probably, 'cause
• 4:32
Owen ends up talking, and let's see if the profanity slides- Ah. [laughs]...
• 4:37
through at least one little, one little, one little- Since we're talking about the archives, check out Monday's Happy Monday show, 'cause they did all songs from the year 1981. I caught- 45 years ago...
• 4:47
I caught a handful of them- Pretty damn good... on, on my way in and were- That should be a, a Scott and Sarah Monday show. That's, who's that? Scott and Sarah Monday, the beautiful people. Oh, the Mondays, yeah.
• 4:55
[laughs] They're beautiful people. You're right. [laughs] The funny thing about those is every song they played, I'm like, oh my God, this is that old? And you're like, y- like, oh my God. I, I told, I messaged Molly.
• 5:05
I'm like, "You should probably turn WMSC." It's a good Monday show. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's a definite archive download. Gonna make a mark of that. Yeah, just, just make a note
• 5:15
of certain shows- We are, we are right now... to always go back to. We are right now. Ah, that's true. 'Cause I know there, there was one for, uh, when Prince passed away. That was a great one.
• 5:25
And it was ac- I think it was the day later, the Rock Ride. Yep. And- Pittsburgh just scored two over the Milwaukee Brewers... and they, uh, and it was just a densely- Football?... awesome- Yeah...
• 5:35
awesome, awesome, awesome show. Throwball. 'Cause they actually played The Cross, one of those that you barely ever hear ever. It's- They did a pretty great bunch of sets- But it's very, "Oh-... when Bowie died too...
• 5:46
oh, oh, hey." That's when he was all in his- Yeah... trying to be kinda controversial- Be, be, yeah... Catholic guy and whatever. Um, before he went to- Then he just went balls out. Like, "Well, hey."
• 5:57
[laughs] The Witness. "I'm c- I'm just, I've had enough with you, humanity. I'm gonna make my own reality." Right on. He did So with all the, uh, all the weather this weekend, somehow I spaced totally on the Slow Roll.
• 6:11
Yeah, me too. I didn't, I didn't space completely on it, I just noticed at what time they were rallying and getting going, and I had other things to do. [laughs] Sleeping in.
• 6:22
Well, no, I had to [laughs] I had to go, I had to go retrieve the van from the- Oh, yeah... previous evening's- Oh, yes... festivities. Of the Bay View Bash. Bay View Bash- Yeah... and Kingston Burial at the,
• 6:35
in condo land [laughs] which was- Yeah... very interesting. I, I seem to remember running into you after you picked your van up. Yes. That was for the M545. Oh, yeah, for the... Oh, yeah The halftime show. Yeah.
• 6:46
That is, that's a good bit at, it's at, uh- I love it... Cactus Club... I, I'm, I'm really trying to hit, uh, as many as I can this year. It's worth- And I'm two for two. It's worth doing So.
• 6:55
I'd, I'd like to ride with them. Even the bands that are, like, eh. Like Dialogues, they're good. They're really good. I just was unfamiliar with them. I didn't know what I was in for. Right...
• 7:02
but it's like a 15-minute sample- Right... of- Exactly... yeah... yeah. And then, and then you- Of what you're gonna do... and then you catch them and watch the rest over...
• 7:07
yeah, and maybe you bring a little football and then you leave... and ride home. Yeah. It's pretty nice. Yeah. I mean, I've gone in years past when it's like, "Hey, can we just keep playing? Does anyone have a problem?"
• 7:15
You know, and they will. And nor- I mean, who's gonna- Yeah... bitch about it? I mean, versus a Packer game? Hell yeah. I'd rather be live music. Well, the b- they're constantly shooting the broadcast on- At you...
• 7:26
on the, on the performers. Right. So you can, you c- You're kinda still seeing it- Yeah, you can... but just at different angles. Exactly.
• 7:33
Yeah, 'cause Scotty, like, looked up in the [laughs] like, towards the end looking, [laughs] and you could kinda, like, check out all this happening.
• 7:39
Nice how you got some good photos this time with the old, uh, with the old, uh, the old professional camera right there, your iPhone. Clickity click. Oh, look at the juice. They took- The Apple juice...
• 7:47
they took some, they took some pretty good photo... I took some pretty good photos. Yeah, they do. I, I... That's why if I'm at a, if I'm at such said event, I will leave it to you.
• 7:55
[laughs] Well, I- I mean, I'll take, I'll take one just for my own memory sake. I w- yeah... just to whatever, but the quality- That, that's how I felt on Friday at De La Buena... yeah.
• 8:03
Well, I usually bring my real camera and then I'm like, "Ah, forgot it for this." But it turned out fine because there was a, a reasonable amount of light and it...
• 8:13
So when they're playing they still have the TV projector- Right... projecting on them- Yeah... so there's, it's kind of like a psychedelic show. Very. You bet. Yeah.
• 8:23
And probably also a pretty blinding show for the musicians. Yes. Uh-huh. Yeah, probably. Oh, yeah, to the psych there in the spotlight. Right. Yeah. Welcome.
• 8:31
So here's an opportunity not to miss a ride, but I don't have any tweed. Yeah. The Tweed Ride is coming. Well, it's also by just, uh, um- Yeah... in the spirit of. I have wool. Yeah. In the spirit of. Yeah...
• 8:44
something with a tartan pattern or something. It is, uh, it is the 17th- It doesn't have to be-... of October. Is that right? 17. I think. Did I pop that? Yeah. From our beloved Cafe du- No derailleurs?... Calendar.
• 8:54
I don't think that's a mandatory thing, it's just- What? No derailleurs. No, there's no- No, I think that the guy that's one of the main dudes is a three-speed guy, right? Yeah. He's- What, Kemper? Mm-hmm. I think.
• 9:06
I've, I've got a... Well, I've got three-speed somewhere. Well, does it, does it have a- I mean, that's embarrassing to say... does it have little tiny wheels? Well, it's, I mean- Well, yeah.
• 9:15
[laughs] You know, going for the whole haha. I've got a- Tip of the cap to the old, uh, you know, what, when you're- Right... going down the road, yeah, the more old-timey the better. I still have the, uh- But why not?
• 9:26
[laughs]... Spartar 880 from the tweed ride I did, I don't know, 15 years ago. I don't think I've ever officially done one. I've kind of happened upon it or- I've, I've done one with you. Oh. I know I have. All right.
• 9:37
Well- And then we also did it- Shows what I know... where we ended up at- About what I've done... uh, we did it where we ended up at Greg Hahn's area, and I had borrowed that, uh, that bike from Job's,
• 9:49
uh, the most- Russell? The Love Russell? The, the Russell. Yeah... The Love Muscle. And I had this- He has more bikes than we do... I couldn't figure out... Oh, yeah. [laughs] All of us combined. Yeah.
• 9:58
It had this weird metal pipe on the side of it and I couldn't- He's more metal now-... couldn't figure out what it was... more than man. [laughs] And, uh,
• 10:05
uh, what's- Nate looks at me, he's like, "Dude, that's totally a kickstand." I'm like, "What do you mean? It's a kickstand."
• 10:09
It's like three and a half feet long, and then he walks over and unfolds it, and it's like the longest kickstand you've ever seen. I do recall that. Yes. Right? Yes, yes, yes, yes. That sounds very familiar. Yes. Yeah.
• 10:19
I do recall. Yes. You sure that wasn't a Pyride? That was a- It was not a Pyride. No. It was not a Pyride. Steel Is Real. No. I think that was a Steel Is Real. Oh, it might've been a Steel Is Real. Could've been.
• 10:27
You could be right. Yeah, I'm pretty damn sure. That's sweet. Anyway. They're all good rides. 'Cause tweed- They are all good rides... tweed doesn't seem to go west. So not- It seems to just north and south...
• 10:33
notwithstanding that there's not a Steel Is Real ride this year yet, although we still have October and November where the weather might be all right. I did already do a design for a 2026 Steel Is Real.
• 10:45
Posted in the notes. Oh, yeah. You know what? Well, I don't know. I'm gonna have to look at this because when we moved
• 10:50
the, uh, website, I moved both fatbike.com and Full Spectrum, a- along with a bunch of other shit to get rid of my $180 a month server because that was pissing me off- It's-... 'cause it's too expensive... fat-bike.com.
• 11:02
Fat-dash-bike.com. Okay. I like it. Uh, we'll, we'll get into that a little bit later. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, uh, the snarky, the snarky [laughs] post. Uh- [laughs] Coiling up my snark...
• 11:15
but I'm not exactly su- it's not as flexible as the old one, but I would like to be able to get... Uh, I can get a picture in there. At least lin- links would be great.
• 11:22
It's more like show notes for a podcast than it is an actual article, 'cause it, well, whatever. We'll figure that out somehow. I might just have to do a separate article, I guess. Uh, but yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
• 11:38
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Sure. Uh, we talked about things in the past sorta. What about things in the future? Like? Oh, yeah. Sausage fest.
• 11:49
[laughs] That, that's actually, like, a, like, a- Checktoberfest... like, a tube meat thing. Right... right? But it's Checktoberfest at Amorphic Saturday.
• 12:01
But I'm gonna go in the past and I- Where we just had to hear Joe tell us his gory story about his arm. Yeah. Joe, don't do that to me. Might add some extra flavor in it, though. That was, that was pretty gruesome.
• 12:08
[laughs] That sounds like he had a bad time. Sounds like he's almost died a few times [laughs] of crashing bikes and slashing arms and- And he's, I see him ride- Internally... by my house on many occasion.
• 12:18
Yeah, he did say- In the past... I did talk to him about it, 'cause he related that same story earlier in the week when I saw him, and I was like Uh, did riding your bike prematurely have anything to do with it?
• 12:28
He goes, "Doctor said no. No, it wasn't, wasn't my fault. It's just something that periodically happens."
• 12:33
And what he brought up, which we should pay attention to being old people, is that in the olden times when they would do, like, heart stuff in your arteries, they would go through your groin. Yeah.
• 12:46
Now they go through your arm, and the doctor said- I think-... that's way more common that I have to do this repair now that they're doing that procedure through your arm instead of your, your groin artery.
• 12:59
This just seems like a- Not sure. I don't think I want either one of them to happen, but it looks like- Well, this seems like a straighter path than this... right, I agree, than going up and around. Yeah.
• 13:05
I don't know, it's just, like, straight. You're doing, like, a U-turn up there. Yeah, I don't know about that at all. Okay. While, while they're in there though, maybe they could- Let's change subjects before I faint...
• 13:13
maybe they can fix- Yeah, one of us is gonna faint... maybe they can fix my shoulder up here while they're in there though. [laughs] I don't know. Hey, hey, if I, if I...
• 13:20
There's an energy bar in my bag- [laughs] If you lose it... if I crumple down. Yeah. And you'll see it because it matches, inadvertently, the shoes I've just purchased. Oh. Oh. I like those shoes. Those are nice.
• 13:32
Guess where I got them from. Chrome. The sh- the shoe store? Chrome? They, oh, those are Chrome babies. Chrome. Guess where I got the bag from. Oh, Chrome. Chrome. Guess what kind of material they're both made out of.
• 13:40
Canvas? The same damn, like- Not, not chrome... well, no. But, I mean, it- Nice... I didn't even- Does that, does- I did not even think about it.
• 13:47
I was like- Does that have the stupid buckle on it so we can just- No, thank God... make your shoes fall off? [laughs] Thank God. I- Chrome drop. Oh. [laughs] Click. Beep.
• 13:57
One of the funniest things ever- Yes, that was...
• 13:59
is a chrome drop to somebody that's wearing a hipster fancy bag and they don't understand [laughs] that that's a thing because people that know it's a thing- I did not know that was a thing...
• 14:06
no, that- That's hilarious... it's like a seatbelt buckle. Yeah, I know. You poke it, it falls off. Well, people that know, they have a little thing that goes between the straps- Yeah...
• 14:13
so when you poke it, it doesn't fall off. [laughs] Or just, like, you know, electrical tape just- Yeah... across the thing to make it difficult. [laughs] It's like- You'd have to get in there for the-...
• 14:20
the things that have been around for how long now? Forever. 25 years or better? Yeah, at least. It's like chrome drop has been a thing since day one almost. Oh, Christ, when Luns did that to the guy who had- [laughs]...
• 14:28
like, six, like, p- I don't know. It was, like, th- three to six bottles of, like, high-priced liquor- Oh, no... or something in his bag. [laughs] And it was just like, oh, oh.
• 14:41
And none of them broke, but I mean, it was just moment of- Right... well, you, well- Yeah. You shouldn't have a chrome bag. [laughs] Speaking of Luns. It was grand though. [laughs] It was.
• 14:50
We need, we need to get our hands on some of that damn Finish Line. [coughs] Oh, yeah. 'Cause- Yeah, our, our good buddy, uh, Dave Fucking Luns, uh, seat post seized in a 30,
• 15:04
more, a th- more than 30-year-old, uh- Just your Timberline... yeah, it's a GT Timberline, steel frame, aluminum post, classic galvanic corrosion stuck in the thing. And f- I forget what they call it.
• 15:17
Chill zone, I think. Ch- Freezone? Chillzone. Chillzone? I would call it Freezone- Chillzone... 'cause, you know, it's a Freezone. Frozone. You want some Freezone for my ice, man. Yeah.
• 15:24
Uh, no, I think they call it Chillzone, but it seems to be out of stock already everywhere. I did find it online today. It's got zero reviews. Well, somehow- You're just gonna have to travel...
• 15:32
somehow, I, there's some, it, it, it shrinks the seat post a little bit, enough to get lubricant in there. Greases the steel. Yeah. It's genius. Yeah. Or it's magic.
• 15:42
Well, it- I don't know, but that post came out like it was butter... somehow, yeah, it come right out there. After he said it's been 16 plus years it's been stuck. And more than that, I think.
• 15:50
My Jesus, that was so- Yeah, you gotta get that on your Univega, dude... he was pretty sho- That's exactly what I wanna do. I wanna ride a road bike once and then hang it back up. Sell it to him. What? Sell it.
• 15:59
I could sell it. Ugh. I'm sure I can get some money for it. Yeah. That, yeah, that's, I, it, I, I hadn't heard of it before, so it must be s- relatively new. Though I'm not that steeped in bike lore- [laughs]...
• 16:11
industry lore anymore. Grease. Well, I would think- No, no, I'm not, on the- With all the videos and stuff we've seen- On the, on the front, on the lubricant front...
• 16:19
of stuck seat posts and Scanlon, we would've known about this. It's gotta be new. I've got the janky thing that, uh- Yeah, I'm gonna try that lube first... I've got the janky thing that Chad made to try and- Yeah...
• 16:29
whatever. I'm like, what? I watched a funny video where they were trying to pull one out, and all of a sudden it just ripped the bottom bracket right out the bottom. [laughs] Yeah, there's a- Like, oh...
• 16:37
there's a lot of stuck seat post stories out there, folks. I bet, you know, if, YouTube's probably could make, make, like, a, a, a- You have a channel...
• 16:43
a medley of, uh, things that go wrong when you're trying to get a seat post out. Could be a new channel for you. Yeah, could be. Yeah.
• 16:50
[laughs] Like an old- I think I've, bes- besides my- [laughs] An oldies but goldies... besides my friends who don't take care of their shit, I really don't see that all that often.
• 16:57
[laughs] If you bring it into the shop and it's getting regular maintenance, guess what we do every single time? Lube the seat post. Lube your freaking seat post. [laughs] Wonder how many seat posts Chewie has stuck.
• 17:05
Chewie's got them stuck, but they're not in his bike. [laughs] Oh. Watch me do bike- Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, Che-... let me, well, watch me do bike maintenance as I sit on muffins and cupcakes.
• 17:15
Chewie's making noises about doing podcasts again, but I'm not sure they're gonna have anything to do with bicycles 'cause he was like, "I can't find my old shows. I wanna, you know, something, something."
• 17:24
And he's, like, gonna be the, I think, the president of the Rotary Club in Decorah, and he's like, "I'm not sure that we can have those shows up with me f- you know, swearing all the time [laughs] and stuff."
• 17:34
I go, "Nobody gives a shit, dude." Oh, Lord. Likely. But, uh, he, we did, he, that, that's another thing. If you need to find your old show, let me know. I'll find it for you and tell you where it is.
• 17:46
Isn't Decorah home of a brewery? [bell ringing] It is. Oh. It's Toppling Goliath. [laughs] Yeah. But I just needed to find some segue. There you go. [laughs] Hey, it's Top of the Hill, everybody.
• 18:02
And by the way, Toppling Goliath is at the top of a big-ass hill coming out of Decorah. Yeah, that's, I ne- I, I wasn't- Large He was going for that. He was going for that. Have you, you haven't been there yet, have you?
• 18:10
No, but, uh, vicariously through your tales. You, yeah, you've told many a tale that it's at the top of a hill. Yeah. It wasn't originally.
• 18:16
It was in a p- smart spot at the bottom of the hill right by the college, but now it's top of the hill out in the middle of fucking where. There was always a hill. Sometimes you grow and you need space.
• 18:23
Well, you wanna make beer for other states. [laughs] Well, watch, you're getting perilously close to a, uh, 1930s, uh, guy. [laughs] Guy. Uh, so what do we, we g- uh, we got, uh, Potussy Oktoberfest.
• 18:36
It's a Marzen style lager, which I don't even what, know what that means. So is the Marzen style we had next door too. Is it? Oh. Okay. Oktoberfests are Marzens. [laughs] All right. Well, there you go. I just don't know.
• 18:45
I'm not... I think it's got- I could be wrong... no beer shaming here, man... doesn't it have a little wheat in it or some such? I don't know. No. Pot-O-S-E.
• 18:55
[laughs] Um- Yeah, the Potosi's over there by the, the river, isn't it? Yeah. It's not far from Decorah, I would think. No.
• 19:02
Um, it's right by Grumpy Troll too, if you- Oh, that's, um- I will tell you- Mount Ho- Horrible... Mount Horeb. Yep. I will tell you, um- See, that was the thing.
• 19:10
I remember this because I was very close to it, and I'm still regretting that I didn't stop in at Potosi instead of wherever we ended up stopping. Well- Hmm...
• 19:18
both of them, both them and, and Grumpy Troll have excellent food. Okay. Which is kinda why- Oh, we did go there, but it was... I don't know. We had a, not a good, uh, uh, whatever [laughs] at the Grumpy. Okay.
• 19:32
So the name was fitting. So we went across the street, and there was, like, this killer diner, kind of- Nice... bar and grill, kinda just perfect. Nice. I was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. All I want is vittles."
• 19:45
In a dive bar setting, didn't need any pretension. Nothing, nothing. It was beautiful. But Potosi Oktoberfest, 'tis the season, they say. It's pretty good. Cheers. It is pretty good.
• 19:54
Yeah, it's actually com- not totally comparable to next door, and it's one, one, 1% beer unit, uh, less. This is a 5.5, and they're 6.5 next door. Oh. But that's a 5.5 right there.
• 20:07
Apparently all the profits of Po- Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah... all the profits of Potosi go to charity. I saw that. It says on there. Huh. Who'd have thunk? I wonder if all the profit from Amorphic goes to charity. No.
• 20:18
I'm betting not. [laughs] Um, they also do hops pyramids, which is really cool to see.
• 20:23
They grow a lot of their own hops, and they do it in the traditional old four-sided triangular thing, 'cause then they grow up, and it's kinda cool. Yeah? Um, been a while since I've been there, but I had a good time.
• 20:34
Yeah. I haven't. Yeah. The river actually runs through the brewery. They have a glass floor. You can watch it. It's a great movie. Oh, shit. Like, uh- The river runs through it... Mayfar- like Mayfair Mall?
• 20:42
[laughs] Yeah, they did add that for it, didn't they? [laughs] I hear malls are back, actually, in, in various parts of the country. They've- Hey, man, bring back- Why? They're resurrected-ified for some reason. Why?
• 20:53
Hey, dude, I still have seniority at Babbage's if they bring back Babbage's. Yeah. [laughs] I don't even know what that is. Well, if you reverse engineer a GameStop- Oh...
• 21:02
down to its computer soft- Oh, like its grapple days... computer, computer software sales- Ah. There you go... that's, that was Babbage's. Named for Charles Babbage- Babbage... inventor of the computer. Hmm.
• 21:15
Well, there you go. Mm-hmm. Hey, yeah. Interesting- Entertain and educate. Uh- We got some actual real- Welcome to Fall, everybody. [laughs]... Idaho real. And we got some semi-real fat bike news. Mm-hmm.
• 21:26
The, there is a new- Fat bike or a fat dash bike? Fat, fat... Well, when you say fat bike- With hyphen... you don't have to throw the dash in there when you say the word. Okay. You just have to- But I'm saying-...
• 21:36
spell it that way... fat, I, I, I, I, I go- We can say fat bike... fat bike. It's a bike. I get, I get a little locky. Or the fat dash bike. But when I mention the w- website, I say fat dash bike.
• 21:48
I used to say fat hyphen bike, but now I say fat dash bike. I go dash. Yeah. Poverty is the soul of wit. Any hizzole. So they have a new Beargrease out there. Hmm. That's a salsa bike.
• 22:00
They make it in the carbon and the aluminum. Man bear pig. There's a story- [laughs]... there's stories all over now about it. I'm not sure exactly what the hell they're thinking, though. The thing
• 22:11
is slack like a chopper. That thing's got so slack a head tube, I can't even raise my arms- A downhill bike?... enough to do it. N- well- Downhill fat bike? That'd be weird...
• 22:19
it, what I think is it's a downcountry bike with big, huge tires, because I can't imagine at low pressure on soft conditions like sand or- Sounds terrible... snow, I don't think that...
• 22:30
I can't s- Sounds, sounds unruly... maybe on groomed trails that are largely ice and you're running studs at higher pressures, it might handle fine. But I, I looked at the geo- I put a thing up on our fat bike lab, and
• 22:43
a few people that ride more trail stuff are like, "Yeah, that sounds pretty cool." But if you're used to, if you wanna ride real soft stuff- That sounds terrible... they're going the wrong way. Yeah.
• 22:55
They've been going the wrong way since nine, since 2009 or whatever, because- I just think you'd go like this. [laughs] Yeah. You know, with the, that slack. Well, it's also really long. The chainstays are longer.
• 23:07
I think it's sort of a trying to be a do it all thing, but I don't know. I guess if you like that thing, that's for you. Plus, our 45 North friends have a new f- carbon fat bike rim- Hmm...
• 23:19
which is a lot like the old carbon fat bike rim from Whiskey. Oh. I, I, it's not the same rim. It's a damn- Pretty close... sight close.
• 23:28
I would say they just retooled the mold to put their name on there, is what I'd say. That does not make it a bad rim. It makes it a good rim, because that was one of my favorite carbon rims.
• 23:37
Everybody's like, "Wow, it's so heavy for a carbon rim." I'm like, "Yeah, but when you hit a rock on your edge of your rim- You need a break... it doesn't blow up like certain other rims out there," so, you know.
• 23:46
Uh, I did also see that Trek is, uh, going all mainstream with the 32-inch wheel. Oh, yeah. That's, uh- Like, ah. That was,
• 23:54
that was in our last, last, uh, last week's, uh, weekly dose of fat newsletters that the, I think the world mountain bike championship dude won it on a 32-inch, which is fine.
• 24:05
There's, I don't think, don't quote me on this, but I doubt there will ever be a 32-inch fat bike. [laughs] I can't imagine anybody but seven-foot-tall- Yeah... plus Shaquille O'Neal- Yeah...
• 24:17
getting on one and fitting on it. Or he'd be riding like this. Yeah. [laughs] The wheel would be in front of you. Well, yeah. Oh, that would be cool, 'cause you kinda just- Be kind of a fun- Have a step-through frame...
• 24:25
yeah, your face is the fender. Right. I, that's what I like to say about that. [laughs] Yeah, it's, that's, I don't know. I- That sounds really ridiculous. Well- Someone's gonna do it.
• 24:36
I mean, and also, uh, at the, at the l- I think it was the Marjorie Gesick or whatever that super hard race in Michigan is that Todd, everybody says it's Todd's fault. Todd.
• 24:46
Uh, I believe that Jordan Wakely, w- if he didn't win it, he definitely won the single speed class, but I think he might've won the whole thing on a single speed 32-inch. Jesus. Mertin Birk. Christ.
• 24:57
Mertin Birk, actually. Mertin Birk. As a, as a, as a height-challenged person 20-niners on the upper end of what- Mm... actually works for me. Yeah.
• 25:07
I could see a six foot plus, 6'2", 6'3" person really being like, "That's pretty cool for me." Sure. For me- I could not see it... I cannot see anybody under, like, 5'10", 11. I, you know, it's, I don't know.
• 25:19
I'm a strong 5'8", man. You're [laughs] - Well, no, I, I mean- And I'm shrinking... it is, it- Me too... it's nudging the tall bike thing, where you have to think about mounting and dismounting. Right. Yeah.
• 25:29
That's why you need a step-through. And- Yeah [laughs]... well, hey. I've see, I've seen some step-throughs I really like. But even that, then you just- Yeah... well, you're always at risk of blasting into the
• 25:39
frame badly. The boys- Yeah... the boys to meet the frame. Ah, yes. Ah, I know. That's why I personally have those little- Little, little- [laughs] Yeah... little pieces too... oh, we got so much stuff on here.
• 25:49
I didn't even know. There are so much. We kind of alluded to the, uh- I even have a piece of paper with extra stuff- [laughs]... can you imagine?
• 25:55
The, the snarky little post I put up today about actually the difference between fat with a dash bike, and then just fatbike all rammed together, and fat and then bike over here with a space in between them. Hmm. Right?
• 26:12
There's all these fat bi- And they're, people were using them interchangeably, and I'm like, "Well, we've always been fat with a dash because that's the website." And w- kinda, I,
• 26:22
even though we've written it almost every way you can write fatbike throughout the years, that was kinda like, I write it with a dash if it's a 26-inch or a 27.5 fatbike. It's got big wheels and wide tires.
• 26:36
It isn't a 20-inch with a motorcycle seat and a throttle- Right... whi- which is what fatbike all slammed together is now to me. Is that right? Mm. Oh.
• 26:44
Well, no, but that's what I'm trying to differentiate because- I see that... there are so many stories es- Especially e-bikes... especially in Europe, about fatbikes being bad.
• 26:54
Well, yeah, fatbike with the m- all smashed together, yes. But with a hyphen, or even with a space- Fat dirt bikes. Fat dirt bikes...
• 27:01
yes, but they're, they don't differentiate, and I just think it's time to take back our word and- Yeah... you know, differentiate between- Yeah...
• 27:09
between mostly youths and bikes with throttles, and being dangerous and stupid, versus people that- Why?... ride their fatbike on the snow when it's 30 below outside. Why don't we start a new movement? Chubbybikes.com.
• 27:26
Oh, Papa Chubby Bike. Husky. Husky. Husky [laughs] Husky bikes- Tough skins my ass... are more like three-inchers. That's more like a three-incher. Yeah. Well, when- [laughs]... I'm sucking my gut in, yeah. There we go.
• 27:36
[laughs] No [laughs] You know, we could be starting a whole new trend. We got chubby bikes. Well, there's a whole story on fatbike.com about it. Uh, if you wanna comment on it, I threw up a thing on the old Fatbike Lab.
• 27:46
You can go in there. You can, you can comment to your heart's content about what you think about this, and whether it's even worth dealing with. But
• 27:54
I'm pretty sure it is, just because we have to set the newsies straight and say, "Don't get it wrong, dumbasses." It's Dumas. [laughs] It's Dumas. Ah, ha. So that's that thing. I was...
• 28:10
We should've been lawyers after all the legal stuff that's been going on. [laughs] Yeah. I would not wanna be a lawyer, but okay. That's a prof- Although I do see you on TV- Ah... once in a while, though.
• 28:19
Well, I'm a paid spokesmodel, though. I'm not a lawyer. Ta-ha. Uh, one, one person in the past, might've been a lawyer, said, uh, "Lawyers are professional bullies." And I thought that was apropos. Yeah, yeah.
• 28:30
[laughs] Uh, yeah, lots of stuff, lots of... I don't know. The, the beach is open. This is another- Yeah... another...
• 28:37
Well, Lund's surfaced it after the, the- Well, it's also, yeah, it's like a- He's also got a UWM presence... it's an unnecessary soap opera going on- Yeah... yeah. Yeah... a mile, a mile down the way here.
• 28:47
I just noticed that back in 2012, I found a PDF where I wrote all the stuff that, the arguing points for it. They're not even arguing it correctly yet.
• 28:56
[laughs] They're still not d-d- the, I don't know if the lawyers don't get it or- Remember that beach ride where he, he'll sh- wh- who shall not be named, like, got into it with the cops about us beach riding?
• 29:06
Yes, and the cops actually said, "Sit the fuck down-" Yeah, the cops were cool... because we're, we're not- He was not... we're not, we're not gonna say anything. We're just here because somebody said something. Yeah.
• 29:17
We're, you're not, there's no problem here. He got a little worked up. Sit up. Sit down. Sit down. Sit. Yeah. Sit up. Sit. Sit, Ubu. Sit. Sit, Ubu. Good boy. [laughs] Yeah, he, he got a little worked up that night. Yeah.
• 29:29
Uh, and then, then- So did the guy on the beach, though [laughs] Yeah. Well, yeah, 'cause he- Well... 'cause he's a dickhead. Yeah. But you gotta, you gotta- Well, yeah... somebody's gotta match- Yeah...
• 29:39
emotion to emotion. Yeah. Right. And I could s- Not everybody, 'cause then it, ooh... I mean, it, they're just, they're not doing the, they're not arguing the things correctly from either side.
• 29:49
Anyway, the beach is- Well, saving it for the next argument. [laughs] Well, it's t- technically back open. The circuit court said, "You're wrong, Shorewood." Which- You are... y- rich people- Yeah...
• 29:59
go fuck yourse- Well, that guy's really rich too, apparently, that brought the, the- Well, the, the guy first north of Atwater? Yeah.
• 30:05
That used to be a really cool dude, 'cause I used to shovel that guy's sidewalk, like, 40 years ago when I was in high school. And doesn't it still have- [laughs]... a funicular? Eh, it may.
• 30:15
I think it still has a funicular on premises. Hmm. I don't know if it's working. Ah. But I know Atwater used to. Oh, yeah, Atwater had a great one. But right there, there used to be a little one, I think. Yeah. Hmm.
• 30:28
Atwater had a really good one that used to cross over something like that. If you get, wanna get close enough before he, yeah, he's gonna invoke castle law and start- And while I, when I was still in-...
• 30:33
shooting people with salt pellets or something... when I was in high school, Shorewood still had- [laughs]... the tram that went down. It was very nice. Wow, cool. Um, yeah.
• 30:41
So- I just like saying funicular because it was, it makes no sense to me Better than funicular. [laughs] Uh, Nate from Poovey Farms Racing- Oh...
• 30:52
which is the website, Poovey, P-O-O-V-E-Y Farms Racing, surfaced to me today that the m- mm, Oak Leaf Trail, which is our main trail system, it's, it's, it was originally In 1976, a 76-mile loop around the city.
• 31:09
Now I think it's over 100. Yeah, 'cause it was, yeah, I remember it ca- Yeah... being called the 76 Trail. The, right, right. Or at least portions of it. And, but then it became the Oak Leaf, and now that it's longer.
• 31:16
Yeah. But they are proposing, I think, what's the date? I don't know.
• 31:20
It might, oh, the 29th, so coming up, and it's a closed door meeting of the county government proposing that there's a 15 mile per hour limit on- Yeah... the Oak Leaf Trail,
• 31:31
trying to stem the tide of fat bikes going really fast. Although, I think stemming the tide of jackasses on tri-bikes on the trail going- Pathletes, man... no pathletes go on 25 either. Oh, God. Not even close.
• 31:44
And I would argue, much as I hate fat bikes, uh, that people on fat bikes are actually more in control than an idiot on a tri-bike. I'd argue with that.
• 31:54
I mean, if they're in the tri position, you got- I mean, just due to tread... very little control. Yeah. Yeah.
• 31:58
Uh, so people shouldn't be going 25 on either one of them on a mixed use trail where there's rollerblades and bicycles and- And pedestrians... and nuns- And dogs and-... with freaking walkers and shit. Right?
• 32:09
The Russian people who are always- The Russian-... outside of Shorewood. Yeah, right there by the- Yeah. Yeah. And they're racing to the beers. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. That's the thing. That is the, what they do.
• 32:18
I just lo- I went to the thing, and the upcoming event this Saturday, whenever the 27th is, there's the big Gay 5K go- Yeah... going out of Veterans Park. I think that's, I, I, I think that's a run.
• 32:28
That's an awesome- Yeah, that's a run... event. I love that. That's a hilarious name. Yeah. I love it. [laughs] Yeah, he, uh, we, I met him- Yeah... somewhere, and we exchanged info. Thursday chill rides.
• 32:38
And apparently- Yeah... he listens to the show. Sweet. Hey, Nate. Hi, Nate. Hey, Nate. Actually, Nate should come on. Was he the guy that was on the news too? He should come on the show, Nate.
• 32:45
Where he got s- he, someone turned in front of him and he wiped out? Don't know. That part I don't know. Don't know. But Nate's, you're welcome to comes on the show anytime. Anytime.
• 32:55
Uh, so there you go about that whole, uh, Milwaukee County thing. And again, I don't know how they'll enforce it. They already can't enforce anything anyway. But if, um, it, I don't know. I'm ambivalent.
• 33:10
I feel like if you're gonna ride 25 miles an hour on your bicycle, whether you're on an a e-bike, fat bike- Be on a fu-... or- Be on a road... or a tri-bike or a road bike, get on the road. Get on the road.
• 33:20
If he- Bike path's not where you need to be... yeah, if you can go as fast as a car, go on the place where the cars go. Abso-freaking-lutely. Yeah. Yeah. So there you go. Yeah. That's that thing. Yeah.
• 33:29
He said he didn't wanna put any words in my mouth, so I just put them in there myself. [laughs] Exactly. You're good at doing that.
• 33:36
And another great thing happening in Milwaukee, Hartford Avenue's gonna be a one way street. Oh, it is? Yeah, they already did that. Yeah. I mean, it's the finishing touches on it. Although the dumbest- Oh, yeah...
• 33:46
the finishing touches on it, but of course, I mean, it's like, it's like semi, semi-separated bike lane. It, it- The two-way, kinda like how- It's the two-way bike lane... how, uh, Van Buren is...
• 33:57
and the bike lanes are this wide. They're the narrowest I've ever seen. Huh. Yeah. And there's, and, and it's just, it- And I have to cross traffic to ride my bike in the bike lane. It's, I, I hate that.
• 34:09
I don't like it on Van Buren. I just think it's dumb.
• 34:12
It's gonna be, uh- Yeah, I'm not sure I like the two-way bike lanes on one side of the street either, but I do like the one way going east right through the center of campus. Yeah. Yeah. Because- I, yeah, I agree...
• 34:24
that's a good idea. I have a feeling it's gonna just end up at some point in time just being a buses only State Street kind of shit. Oh, that wouldn't be bad either.
• 34:31
And I mean, that's what they should have done right out of the gate. Yeah, but then all the UWM parking lots are done. What? There's three UWM parking [laughs] lots there that wouldn't have access. Whatever.
• 34:40
Gonna use your- Oh... gonna use your heli- Oh... heli car to get in there. Right. Oh, I'm sorry, uh, buses and chancellor only. What it, what'd it cost to go to UWM now? You could, everybody has to afford a heli car.
• 34:49
No, yeah, put the, put the helipad in- Wait... for the new guy. Oh, yeah. Speaking of- Oh, and he's getting i- inaugurated. I thought he was already. [laughs] No, but you know- Freaking...
• 34:57
the best part about that is Thursday night there's a drone show. Oh, crap. We're- But also-... all stars now... at UWM. In the drone show.
• 35:03
But also, so having been to Chancellor Gibbons, uh, Gibson's house, and meeting Chancellor Gibson a few times, do you know what his inaugural event is? No. Roller skating on the plaza. Oh.
• 35:17
And he is at the exact perfect age to be a guy that can really seriously roller skate. Is that where the fountain is? Nice. The fountain- On the UWM campus? It's just a little bit off the street, Spatz Plaza. Oh. Yeah.
• 35:32
The, the fountain is where I did the splits and tore my [laughs] my hamstring- Yeah... all the fucking- Oh, from- Oh, bummer... the fountain derby. Yes.
• 35:39
That was really cool until I- I've ridden through that fountain a few times. Oh, you must have had another one already. Yeah. I was looking for a fluffer beer in there, but no.
• 35:47
[laughs] Uh, no, we have to refill the beer cooler apparently. Well... [coughs] That's all right. We only have one more thing to- No, it, it's-... really talk about today...
• 36:00
it's interesting that, I'm just waiting for that Hartford experiment to pfft- Yeah... like flop on itself, for it to just change into something else.
• 36:09
I'm waiting, I'm trying to figure out how they're gonna stop people from going the [laughs] other direction. There's a couple of road diets- In, in, in Autumn Green... that work. It's not gonna work. Yeah.
• 36:17
[laughs] Have you seen any of the humanity that, like, walks, drives, bikes, exists on campus? It's insanity. It's just no, no, no, no. That's you and me, dude. Somebody is going to absolutely go wrong way.
• 36:30
Two out of three of your- I'm just saying... full spectrum cycling hosts work- [laughs]... on campus. I do not. Although my boy is still there. I wish they would upgrade the Taco Bell, though.
• 36:41
Oh, dude, they're doing the Lord's work, man. I got two very well engorged soft tacos. I did [laughs] two the other day. It's a crazy step. I swear to Chris, man, that is the hack.
• 36:52
I mean, you know, whatever, it's two bucks. It's more an inflated price than your normal Taco Bell. Yeah, but generally speaking- But-... those kids are good. Yeah. They do- Yeah...
• 37:01
they fill them like they wanna eat them. Since we put a bunch of time into the- I love that... since we put a bunch of time into this bikes on the bus thing
• 37:08
I feel like this should be more in the middle of the show at some point, but we've been talking about cy- uh, musicians and/or touring people doing what they do out there on the road, riding their bikes or being cyclists in general.
• 37:22
And Tim Commerford- Timmy C! Timmy C from- Oh, Timmy C... Rage Against the Machine, AudioSlave. Uh, what was your, what was... J.K. made a playlist of this we said. Yeah.
• 37:33
Dude, uh- Um- Man, he's been one of those guys for decades... bass, bass player with Rage and yeah. Oh man, since 2000 during the VMAs when he jumped up on the, on the,
• 37:45
whatever they had, the, uh, part of the set design 'cause they lost to Limp Bizkit for Best [laughs] Hard Rock Performance. Why? Why? And so he just jumped out there- Why would that happen?...
• 37:56
and boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. It was grand. It, I- Yeah... that's the, that's- There's no way Limp Bizkit should beat Rage- No... in any contest. No. Ever. Never. Just saying. Year 2000 was a weird time.
• 38:06
Well- I'll say that as well... he's been riding apparently since the early '90s. Uh, he rides extensively on tour and once said, "I think I ride bikes maybe more than I play bass."
• 38:14
[laughs] He's ridden with Hans No Way Rey. Whoa. I rode with Hans No Way Rey too, but not doing what Hans No Way Rey does, 'cause there's no way I would do that. Is he the wheelie guy?
• 38:25
He's the, like, trial- the original trials guy- Yeah, yeah... that did all the really cool videos back in the GT days in the '90s.
• 38:31
Uh, I think he- I think he's in the new Danny MacAskill video or- I think he just, after 35 or maybe 40 years, just lost the GT sponsorship because, well, GT sucks now. But
• 38:42
he was a guy that got to do that for a living for 40 years. How can you go wrong? Hans, you are my hero. Brian Lopes was a awesome downhill racer and cross-country guy and- [clears throat] Anyway.
• 38:56
One of, one of his old, uh, or one of his s- solo projects, Timmy C's, um, has a video, uh, with Lance. Of the Armstrong? Of the Armstrong. I love the Lance.
• 39:11
Who he's a- apparently kinda friendly-friendly with, so it's like a very, uh, w- odd steroid use driven video. [laughs] That's pretty freaking... I was watching part of it. Interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 39:24
It's a- Interesting... it's a, it's a very interesting, uh, yeah. Did they, did they hang out with Carrot Top? Oh. [laughs] Speaking- I did... speaking of- Speaking of 'roids... speaking of freaking steroids, bro.
• 39:33
Complete- Come on, man. Dude, we did the stage introduction for him when he was playing Riverside in 97, 8. That was before the riots. Something like that. No, it was during it. Oh. Or at the beginning of it.
• 39:47
'Cause like he, like made a point to like, "Oh, hey, it's backstage." You know, like meet and greet. You know, shirt off, "Look at my body" kinda thing. Ugh. And it was like, dude, not really what I was planning on.
• 39:59
No, not with that weird face. It was weird at that point. The surgery. It was- The surgery. He's had a lot of plastic surgery. Yeah. It was, it was before- He tried to off himself, right? It was before the- Yeah. Yeah...
• 40:08
it was before the face surgeries. Before. The, the face- He still has the other- The part I don't understand-... unseen look of-... now that we're diving into- Look of youth... whatever TV, um...
• 40:18
So apparently he's, he tried to commit suicide, and if you are having a problem with thoughts, you know, please don't commit suicide. 611. And also contact somebody that's a friend. 611. Yeah. Yeah. 611.
• 40:28
Is apparently he's being like, he's been dragged through this lawsuit for $500,000. Now, he's had the longest running residency in Vegas. [laughs] Isn't $500,000 a drop in the fucking bucket?
• 40:42
No, depending on your vices, man. Yeah, you could probably- Especially there... spend 50K a day in Vegas if you're really- Yeah. You don't even really have to try. You can do it, you can do it any- in any town really.
• 40:51
I- I mean, that just makes it easier, but- Another reason I'm not going to Vegas. I, I worked there for four months a year for a while. The thing you don't do, go anywhere near- Yeah, but-... the strip.
• 41:00
[laughs] You earn your money and you go to sleep. Sure. And then you wake up the next day and you earn more money. You go to sleep. And then you go to sleep again.
• 41:09
