- 0:20Speaker 1: Gooday.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'm Callum, I play guitar and I sing in semantics.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We're made up with myself, a drummer Mitch, other guitar
- 0:28Speaker 2: as Zachi bass player Madeline, and that's us. We've got
- 0:32Speaker 2: a new album out September twenty seven on Friday. It's
- 0:35Speaker 2: called out I Feel It All at Once, releasing by
- 0:38Speaker 2: a Sidewe Dummy, and yeah, we're so stoked to be
- 0:41Speaker 2: finally sharing it.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Great, good mate, thanks for joining us this evening.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Thanks for having us my pleasure.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Semitics to release your second album, I Feel It All
- 0:50Speaker 4: at Once on the twenty seventh of September May.
- 0:53Speaker 3: So how are you feeling about it?
- 0:56Speaker 1: I'm so excited.
- 0:57Speaker 2: You know, we've all been sitting on these songs for
- 1:00Speaker 2: a few months now and waiting to put them out
- 1:04Speaker 2: and see what everyone thinks and share it with everyone,
- 1:08Speaker 2: and yeah, we just can't wait for the big day.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We're almost there, you are.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Can you tell us a bit more about the album
- 1:14Speaker 4: from a musical point of view and what are you
- 1:15Speaker 4: going forward it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We're aiming to kind of encapsulate everything we love about
- 1:24Speaker 2: rock music guitar music, so we wanted to basically pay
- 1:29Speaker 2: tribute to all of the you know styles and artists
- 1:34Speaker 2: that have kind of influenced us, and you know, from there,
- 1:39Speaker 2: just play from the heart, make songs that we believe in,
- 1:43Speaker 2: you know, write about content and subject matter that it
- 1:47Speaker 2: is important to us or is relevant to our lives.
- 1:49Speaker 2: But it's also you know, we hope translatable and accessible
- 1:56Speaker 2: to everyone else.
- 1:59Speaker 4: The press release it represents a bright new chapter for
- 2:02Speaker 4: the band.
- 2:03Speaker 3: So can you elaborate on that? What's what's the new chapter?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Well, in the last couple of years, there was some
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know, hiccups in our personal lives. There were there
- 2:14Speaker 2: were deaths, there were you know, all kinds of things
- 2:18Speaker 2: going on, and line up change as well. Zach, you
- 2:21Speaker 2: only joined the band a couple of years ago, and
- 2:25Speaker 2: so this was our kind of chance and our ability
- 2:30Speaker 2: to represent where we're out now as the most uniform,
- 2:36Speaker 2: solidified group and as friends and everything. So the new
- 2:42Speaker 2: chapter is just us kind of in the best shape
- 2:45Speaker 2: we've ever been in musically and you know personally.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Yeah, So today you release the singles Love Language and
- 2:53Speaker 4: port Alan. So would you say they're a good sonic
- 2:56Speaker 4: representation on what do you expect from the whole album
- 2:58Speaker 4: or do they just scratched the surface.
- 3:00Speaker 2: No, yeah, they're they're kind of we've put them out
- 3:04Speaker 2: of singles to kind of give you a rough idea
- 3:09Speaker 2: of kind of what's going to be happening. But you know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: there's there's a lot more to unpack in the album.
- 3:15Speaker 2: No two songs are the same. We have a kind
- 3:18Speaker 2: of same song phobia, so we kind of never do
- 3:22Speaker 2: the same thing twice, and it's turned into what we
- 3:25Speaker 2: think is a pretty cool kind of mix, a broad
- 3:28Speaker 2: palette of, like I say, all all the styles that
- 3:32Speaker 2: inspire us, you know, the kind of dipped into each song.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Now, I noticed that there's no song on the album
- 3:39Speaker 4: called I Feel It All at Once, So the title
- 3:42Speaker 4: must have the greatest significance.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I'm guessing it's We actually decided on the album title
- 3:48Speaker 2: because it was the final lyric of the final song
- 3:54Speaker 2: on the album, and we thought it was a good
- 3:58Speaker 2: kind of.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Representation of kind of.
- 4:03Speaker 2: The contrast and the chaos and the emotions and energy
- 4:08Speaker 2: and everything that we go through in the album musically,
- 4:12Speaker 2: lyrically and otherwise. And the same goes for kind of
- 4:15Speaker 2: the artwork. You know, they all kind of create, they
- 4:20Speaker 2: have meaning to us, and it's about that accumulation of
- 4:24Speaker 2: feelings all kind of hitting you at once, And yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 2: it's a little abstract, but that's kind of where we
- 4:32Speaker 2: pulled it from.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Yes, how does this album differ musically to your debut album,
- 4:37Speaker 4: Paint Me Blue?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Musically, it's just an evolution of what we've done before.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Like it's we haven't drastically changed.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think the.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Evolution and the real kind of change comes with the
- 4:55Speaker 2: level of kind of production and the additional kind of
- 4:59Speaker 2: song writing effort that we put in for it. So
- 5:03Speaker 2: where Painted Blue was kind of a grab and go,
- 5:06Speaker 2: you know, these are some songs and we're gonna have
- 5:09Speaker 2: a kind of punk rock attitude about it and just
- 5:11Speaker 2: kind of put them out in a pretty raw fashion,
- 5:16Speaker 2: this time we really slowed down the making process and
- 5:21Speaker 2: we went into find a detail with every song to
- 5:24Speaker 2: kind of bring out more nuance with everything. And I
- 5:29Speaker 2: think that's the biggest kind of departure from from our
- 5:33Speaker 2: earlier songs is just the amount of time we put
- 5:37Speaker 2: into refining each of these songs as opposed to just
- 5:40Speaker 2: kind of writing them and banging them out.
- 5:43Speaker 4: I'll just say, someone listen to this and they haven't
- 5:46Speaker 4: heard us semantics before, give us three of your songs
- 5:49Speaker 4: that they can listen to as an introduction to the band.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I'd say the track opener, Last and More is a
- 5:57Speaker 2: good kind of it's a good taste for the whole album.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I would say.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Maybe track seven It's a Lot, which is a bit
- 6:10Speaker 2: of a ballad. It's a love song which gives you
- 6:14Speaker 2: a kind of, you know, a vibe for how things
- 6:17Speaker 2: kind of slow down. And the closer irresolution, which is
- 6:21Speaker 2: a you know, shoegazy kind of song. And so you know, start,
- 6:30Speaker 2: middle and end, those kind of these moods that that
- 6:33Speaker 2: go across the album. That's what I would you recommend
- 6:36Speaker 2: is kind of here how it sounds at the beginning,
- 6:39Speaker 2: how it sounds in the middle, and how it sounds
- 6:41Speaker 2: at the end, because it's pretty synonymous with how we
- 6:44Speaker 2: set up the track listing.
- 6:47Speaker 4: You've also got an album tour coming up, starting on
- 6:50Speaker 4: the Gold Coast on October thirty eighth, before going through Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Cambram,
- 6:55Speaker 4: Melbourne's Along Adelaide and finishing Brisbane.
- 6:57Speaker 3: On November the sixth. Like, it's a pretty deep and
- 7:00Speaker 3: run of shows.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Bright Yeah, it's it'll be the biggest headliner that we've
- 7:05Speaker 2: ever done. We wanted to you know, travel is expensive.
- 7:10Speaker 2: We wanted to maximize on that vehicle, higher that time
- 7:14Speaker 2: away from work, book as many shows as we could,
- 7:17Speaker 2: you know, possibly hook up and visit some new places
- 7:21Speaker 2: as well. So it was kind of a no brainer
- 7:25Speaker 2: to you know, try to go big with it.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and what can people expect from your live mate
- 7:31Speaker 4: given tell us a typical live, semantic show.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Loud, loud as fuck, and just a good time.
- 7:42Speaker 2: You know, some of our songs can get moody, but
- 7:45Speaker 2: I like to think that we keep the energy really
- 7:48Speaker 2: positive at our show.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And we love to hang out.
- 7:53Speaker 2: So whether it's before we play or after, we'll be
- 7:55Speaker 2: drifting around the venue, catch up with old friends and
- 7:59Speaker 2: making new ones. You know, it's a it's a big hangout,
- 8:02Speaker 2: big loud hangoutassy mate.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Well, thanks very much for your time to know Calumus,
- 8:06Speaker 4: been the pleasure to speaking with you. The album I Feel
- 8:09Speaker 4: It All at Once is out September twenty seven. Tour
- 8:12Speaker 4: kicks off on October thirteen. So where can people keep
- 8:15Speaker 4: up the day with the band and buy chickens and stuff.
- 8:18Speaker 2: It's all on our Website's on our Instagram. It's on
- 8:20Speaker 2: our Spotify. There's cross links on everything, so point A
- 8:25Speaker 2: will get you to point B.
- 8:27Speaker 1: No worries, just look up smatics and we'll be there.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Easy, brother. I enjoyed the rest of you know, I
- 8:31Speaker 3: made best of luck.
- 8:32Speaker 5: With the album.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Simples of Kindness. Waste it on me, you brunning and
- 9:13Speaker 6: Apple's never full.
- 9:15Speaker 1: From the trip.
