- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot It's unfiltered. The schedule comes out Thursday, right, you know, yeah,
- 0:15Speaker 1: but buzz is palpable. Um oh, Curmudgeons just covering up
- 0:20Speaker 1: for your lack of coaching by putting a good player there. Oh,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I like you better. Dante's not hand, no meal, we
- 0:27Speaker 1: gotta use first round picks. I like that better sneak
- 0:31Speaker 1: I went over. I love it. I didn't even think
- 0:34Speaker 1: of that demented angle. You know you've seen one where
- 0:38Speaker 1: one is all about that both ends. Well you are yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 1: excuse sorry, I know you like that, dude, But Southern
- 0:44Speaker 1: Comfort that was a show we did pretty should I
- 0:46Speaker 1: have seen at least one episode of that. Well we
- 0:48Speaker 1: never made it to air, but I think pilots are wrong. Again,
- 0:52Speaker 1: if you like it, who's to tell you not to
- 0:54Speaker 1: eat it? Absolutely? Back in the day when Eric was
- 0:56Speaker 1: still a meeting, right, we went to Arthur's and you
- 0:59Speaker 1: wanted to get a steak well done, and I objected.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He did told the service that don't you dare, don't
- 1:05Speaker 1: you dare bring him a coach Steak. You don't need
- 1:07Speaker 1: to waste the money on someone who's gonna have all done.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It's a waste because it'll taste the same. Of course,
- 1:15Speaker 1: you know the different street cuts of meat, not when
- 1:17Speaker 1: you do it well done, not when you cook it
- 1:20Speaker 1: well done. This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:27Speaker 1: welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday, and it's also
- 1:32Speaker 1: schedule release day, eight o'clock on NFL Network, the big extravagance.
- 1:38Speaker 1: You know, by the time we get there, all the
- 1:40Speaker 1: everybody will know everybody's games anyway. So but but you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: it's fun. Yeah, it's fun. It's been quiet so far, though.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I don't think there's been a no. I think I
- 1:49Speaker 1: think there's been a clamp down this year. I mean
- 1:51Speaker 1: NFL Network Week four, Sunday Night Football, Kansas City, Tampa Bay. Yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 1: they are releasing some things early. Welldyp on the sideline
- 2:01Speaker 1: or will he be up in the booth we'll be
- 2:02Speaker 1: in the game. We don't know. Yeah, we just don't know.
- 2:05Speaker 1: We don't know. Um So speaking of releasing, well, I
- 2:10Speaker 1: beg your pardon, ja Jam Jared Stidham. Jam was traded
- 2:15Speaker 1: to the Raiders. H reportedly reportedly one. So I think yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 1: place Harrow. Yeah, Albert Breer swap a picks basically yea,
- 2:24Speaker 1: the Patriots get a six, they get our seventh or something.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Story broken by James Stewart. Yeah, on the Sports top
- 2:30Speaker 1: out of my show Fred, one of your channels. Yeah. Um,
- 2:33Speaker 1: we we talked about it that we said that that
- 2:35Speaker 1: was a likely possibility that they'd move him. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: that's I think we had a not an argument, but
- 2:42Speaker 1: a discussion about the horrior I didn't think was going
- 2:45Speaker 1: anywhere based on his guaranteed money. Yeah. It just seems
- 2:48Speaker 1: funny now looking back at, you know, some of the
- 2:51Speaker 1: hype around Stidham realistically thinking he had a chance in
- 2:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty or even twenty twenty one. But I mean,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I think I just wasn't impressed with him the first
- 2:59Speaker 1: time we saw him in nineteen and min I just
- 3:01Speaker 1: started here. But I think that was like my ground
- 3:03Speaker 1: level of what a rookie quarterback could look like, and
- 3:05Speaker 1: it didn't look very good. I mean, especially in contrast
- 3:08Speaker 1: to Brady when he was here. But you know, then
- 3:10Speaker 1: the weird injury thing in twenty twenty where that that sealed.
- 3:13Speaker 1: His fate kind of came out and he was like, oh,
- 3:15Speaker 1: he's going to the hospital. And then last year he
- 3:17Speaker 1: ended up on the on the pup and was was
- 3:19Speaker 1: not really even part of it. So never really worked out.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I mean, Paul and I were kind of joking upstairs
- 3:23Speaker 1: about the various reports over the twenty twenty off season
- 3:27Speaker 1: coming into twenty twenty about how high the Patriots were
- 3:30Speaker 1: on Stidham, and I don't know it did that entire
- 3:33Speaker 1: off season until Cam Newton came, which was a little
- 3:37Speaker 1: bit later. If you remember that, it was all into June,
- 3:40Speaker 1: not just like who's going to be the Stidham's the man?
- 3:43Speaker 1: That was the storyline right of the twenty twenty off season,
- 3:47Speaker 1: And now, you know, Mike and I were talking about it,
- 3:49Speaker 1: people are like kind of getting snarky. Remember when he
- 3:52Speaker 1: was the you know the demand you know, Oh, okay,
- 3:54Speaker 1: admittedly that was like, you know, like a blanket. No,
- 3:58Speaker 1: everybody was writing about it, everybody was talking about it,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and everybody was yelling at this show because even you
- 4:03Speaker 1: didn't embrace that one Fred, right, everybody was yelling at
- 4:06Speaker 1: this show for being so negative, right right, like because
- 4:11Speaker 1: we saw the same thing that you're talking about in
- 4:14Speaker 1: twenty nineteen. Well, even even when Cam Newton got here,
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well it's a competition. We were like, no, it's not
- 4:19Speaker 1: going to be a competition as long as Cam Newton's here, right,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and then Cam Newton, I mean, let's put it this way.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Cam Newton played as badly as you can play in
- 4:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty and still had the job to start twenty
- 4:32Speaker 1: twenty one. Right, yeah, right, I'm telling you it was
- 4:35Speaker 1: the COVID thing that pushed mac Jones ahead. Yeah. I
- 4:39Speaker 1: think Bill had just said I had an I can't
- 4:41Speaker 1: do this anymore. I have to get someone who's reliable.
- 4:44Speaker 1: When we all could see how much better Mac Jones
- 4:46Speaker 1: was on a consistent basis. Yeah, when they were days
- 4:49Speaker 1: when Newton was was okay. Yeah, But to me, the
- 4:52Speaker 1: best they were was even And I think you know
- 4:56Speaker 1: that's what it took from mac Jones. It wasn't like
- 4:57Speaker 1: that with Stidham. It was it was Cam Newton. Cam
- 5:00Speaker 1: Newton only would stid him right, Yeah, it was the
- 5:03Speaker 1: the pocket presence was so what stood out to me
- 5:04Speaker 1: with Mac. That was the difference kind of coming in
- 5:06Speaker 1: seeing Stidham his first couple of years about just how
- 5:09Speaker 1: panicky he'd look, and you know, the window would basically
- 5:11Speaker 1: or the clock would end, and he just kind of
- 5:13Speaker 1: throw the ball in the dirt. But Mac always seemed
- 5:15Speaker 1: like he was a little bit comfortable in the chaos
- 5:18Speaker 1: in the pocket, and I would agree with that, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: much better pocket. And then but even like that Kansas
- 5:22Speaker 1: City game in twenty twenty when Cam got covid and
- 5:25Speaker 1: then Hoyer got the start, and then you know, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: then then Stidham got in. But I don't think he
- 5:31Speaker 1: I mean that Jet scare in twenty nineteen with the
- 5:33Speaker 1: picks six. In fact, that Stidham never started a game
- 5:37Speaker 1: in twenty twenty to me told you everything you need
- 5:39Speaker 1: to know what they thought. Yeah, yeah, the season was
- 5:42Speaker 1: a train wreck at times. Offensively, you know, they couldn't
- 5:46Speaker 1: move the ball at all, and they just kept trotting
- 5:49Speaker 1: Cam Newton out there. Yeah, and I tend to think
- 5:52Speaker 1: I don't know how much of a difference it made,
- 5:54Speaker 1: but I think it's it's kind of an example of
- 5:56Speaker 1: just how important it is for a rookie and young
- 5:59Speaker 1: guys to get on the field and just be available
- 6:01Speaker 1: and stay on the field. And he's never really had that.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I mean, his rookie year, Yes, but Brady was here
- 6:06Speaker 1: and then you know, there was just always something kind
- 6:08Speaker 1: of popping up with him. And I think you see
- 6:10Speaker 1: that a lot with rookies where they get and then
- 6:14Speaker 1: they get behind. It's even it's doubled when it's a quarterback,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, but you know we see it with a
- 6:19Speaker 1: lot of other positions that you know, they lose that
- 6:22Speaker 1: time in camp and preseason game they can't play, and
- 6:25Speaker 1: then they just fall behind and they never recover. You know,
- 6:29Speaker 1: it's just that much worse for a quarterback. And how
- 6:31Speaker 1: many times have been like a player who might not
- 6:33Speaker 1: even be that good, but they're just always available and
- 6:36Speaker 1: they're there and they're you know, working hard and they
- 6:38Speaker 1: know what to do and maybe they don't do it
- 6:40Speaker 1: at a super high level, but because they know what
- 6:43Speaker 1: to do and they're kind of consistent. I mean, there's
- 6:45Speaker 1: been a lot of those guys over the years. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: think that are probably frustrating to a lot of Patriots
- 6:48Speaker 1: Fans were like, why is this guy still out there?
- 6:51Speaker 1: But he's healthy and he's speaking of hard working overachievers.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Danny woodhead close to qualifying for the US Open Golf.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think he made it through the first part, right, Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 1: now he's going to sectionals or something something like that. Yeah, yeah, sorry,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I just shot the punk sunk a punk sunk sunk
- 7:08Speaker 1: a putt sunk a punk sunk a putt. Uh. He
- 7:12Speaker 1: was interesting though. When he came in twenty ten. What
- 7:14Speaker 1: was that? I mean that was out of nowhere. People
- 7:16Speaker 1: brought him in and this little guy from the Jets.
- 7:18Speaker 1: They put him in the pro shop and you know,
- 7:21Speaker 1: uh selling shirts. You know, people didn't know who he was.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It was I mean, he was a fan favorite very quickly.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I was surprised he didn't stick around a little longer
- 7:29Speaker 1: than he did. I was a little bit surprised when
- 7:30Speaker 1: he when he left, because I felt like they were
- 7:32Speaker 1: kind of in that void. I mean, I know they
- 7:33Speaker 1: has a shelf life on that position. That's why I
- 7:36Speaker 1: think it's much Yeah, it's much like Slot Receiver. And
- 7:39Speaker 1: that's what made I think Kevin Fox so impressive and
- 7:44Speaker 1: uh Troy Brown, because you look at how long those
- 7:47Speaker 1: guys did it and produced, and it's it's not easy
- 7:51Speaker 1: to do that because you're you're you're inside and you're
- 7:54Speaker 1: taking a lot of you're taking a lot of shots. Yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 1: he was unique though, just I mean he was small,
- 7:58Speaker 1: but just thick, and yeah, he'd get lost, he'd drown
- 8:01Speaker 1: those little dump off screen passes, and it just seemed
- 8:04Speaker 1: like everybody couldn't find him. And then all of a sudden,
- 8:05Speaker 1: he just kind of he just powered out and go
- 8:08Speaker 1: flying for you know, twenty yards downfield. They get a
- 8:10Speaker 1: big game in that Jets game that they with, the
- 8:12Speaker 1: forty five to three game in twenty ten. I think
- 8:14Speaker 1: that was one of his one of his better and
- 8:16Speaker 1: they try to go with a similar game plan in
- 8:18Speaker 1: the playoff game six weeks later. It didn't go as well.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He was a big part of the Drive to Nowhere,
- 8:24Speaker 1: the fourteen play drive that resulted in no points. Yep,
- 8:28Speaker 1: Eric's not here today. He's um, it's his turn with
- 8:30Speaker 1: Doctor Jellyfinger. He's taken one for the team. He's in
- 8:32Speaker 1: the squatty party. Yeah, he's taken one for the team today.
- 8:35Speaker 1: He's got to proceedure tomorrow that he's prepping for today,
- 8:39Speaker 1: getting focused, Yeah, getting psyched lists. Not like me and you.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Fred would just come in. Yeah. I guess in Rhode
- 8:45Speaker 1: Island they do it a little differently. I don't know.
- 8:47Speaker 1: This is the day of like drinking radioactive fluid or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 1: at the time. It all depends on when you're what
- 8:54Speaker 1: time you have to start it. I would imagine it's
- 8:57Speaker 1: a little easier being a vegetarian, right, yeah, definitely, No,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, he's probably gonna come back
- 9:03Speaker 1: all like cocky about it. The doctor said mike colon
- 9:07Speaker 1: was as clean as anything he's ever seen. There was
- 9:10Speaker 1: nothing in there, pups, no nothing. So the colon of
- 9:12Speaker 1: a teenager. You could eat off of my colon because
- 9:16Speaker 1: because because he's a vegetarian. Yeah, you know, it'd be
- 9:19Speaker 1: like the doctor said it was. It was particularly clean, right.
- 9:22Speaker 1: The kale just it absorbs all. You know. He gave
- 9:25Speaker 1: me his number. I's trying to sell pictures of my
- 9:28Speaker 1: colon on the internet. So Eric's not going to be
- 9:32Speaker 1: here today. Um what else have we got anything? We'll
- 9:36Speaker 1: just well, Mike and I have been rookie Minicamp this weekend. Yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and Mike and I have dovetails. Nicely. We've been putting
- 9:42Speaker 1: up our profiles one by one. Um, you know, good timing.
- 9:46Speaker 1: As Christopher Eira pointed out our webmaster, you know, I
- 9:50Speaker 1: just put the Bailey's Appy one up yesterday and they
- 9:53Speaker 1: make the Stidma move today. So Mike was kind enough
- 9:56Speaker 1: to link to that story on his report of the
- 10:00Speaker 1: Stidham trade, so you know, you can learn a little
- 10:04Speaker 1: bit about Zappy. Obviously, we talked a lot about the draft.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Incredible production in his one year at the FBS level
- 10:11Speaker 1: that Western Kentucky, you know, throwing for six thousand yards
- 10:13Speaker 1: and sixty two touchdowns. Those are records. By the way,
- 10:19Speaker 1: he's going to get an opportunity to come in and
- 10:21Speaker 1: earn the third quarterback spot, or you know, perhaps if
- 10:25Speaker 1: if he's not ready for that, maybe they try to
- 10:27Speaker 1: squeeze him on the practice squad or something like that.
- 10:29Speaker 1: But the one commonality with the three players that I
- 10:35Speaker 1: did it was Kevin Harris, Pierre Strong, and Bailey Zappy,
- 10:39Speaker 1: three players whose coaches were really really high on the players.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I mean that doesn't always happen. It usually does, but
- 10:47Speaker 1: these three were particularly high on their three players. Yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and now I'll just to add on to that good
- 10:54Speaker 1: video going around as Zappy getting the call for his
- 10:56Speaker 1: I think he's the on, Heybrookie, welcome to the NFL
- 10:59Speaker 1: this year, uh, talking to his agent. I mean, you
- 11:02Speaker 1: gotta love that stuff of these guys with their families around,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and you know, I think he said something like a
- 11:06Speaker 1: Patriots not that're not gonna take me here. And then
- 11:08Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you know, the phone rings. Yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 1: it's all that's real. It's really cool. And then you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: that dovetails into what I wrote about Sam Roberts, who
- 11:15Speaker 1: his video went viral as well when he got drafted
- 11:19Speaker 1: by the Patriots, all guys and Patriots jerseys and talking
- 11:22Speaker 1: to his college coach, he said, yeah, it's just, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: bizarre that he got drafted by the Patriots. He used
- 11:26Speaker 1: to come in on Sundays. He said, you know, we
- 11:27Speaker 1: just kind of have open people want to come in
- 11:30Speaker 1: and study film and uh and Sam would come in
- 11:32Speaker 1: wearing his Patriots jersey on Sundays. You know, how why
- 11:35Speaker 1: are you a Patriots family in Missouri? Like a lot
- 11:37Speaker 1: of Chiefs fans and stuff. And I guess at one
- 11:39Speaker 1: point the Patriots beat the Chiefs and that's why he
- 11:41Speaker 1: picked them. But another guy, I mean, yeah, of course
- 11:43Speaker 1: the coach loves them. But one god, what's the name
- 11:47Speaker 1: of the award? Cliff Harris Award for uh Small School
- 11:51Speaker 1: Defensive Player of the Year has all the size. You know,
- 11:53Speaker 1: it's definitely gonna need some technique. Everybody's gonna be as
- 11:56Speaker 1: strong and big as you now, but um, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: it just reminds me in his game of Barmore, the
- 12:00Speaker 1: small School just I know they're different levels, but the
- 12:04Speaker 1: way he gets off the ball, the kind of violence
- 12:06Speaker 1: and urgency that he plays with right off the snap.
- 12:08Speaker 1: So um, I think it'll be somebody to watch in
- 12:10Speaker 1: camp see if he's able to do it against NFL
- 12:13Speaker 1: defensive lineman. I mean he's built like a you know,
- 12:16Speaker 1: like like a truck. I mean, that's exactly what you'd
- 12:18Speaker 1: want coming off the bus, sou And then yeah, I'm
- 12:21Speaker 1: jumping into Marcus Jones and got some quotes from his
- 12:24Speaker 1: head coach Dana Holgersson at Houston. So yeah, working through it.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Going back to Zappi, his thing is he's only like
- 12:31Speaker 1: six feet tall. Besides the fact that he's small, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:36Speaker 1: be interesting. It'll give him more opportunity. I mean I
- 12:38Speaker 1: wonder with the three days in camp and not really
- 12:40Speaker 1: quarterback competition. I mean last year it was going in
- 12:42Speaker 1: how are they going to divide up Cam and mac
- 12:44Speaker 1: Hoyer and stid him almost after thoughts into that, and
- 12:47Speaker 1: you know, but now it's it's a little bit more set,
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know what you have in Hoyer. Yeah, so we'll
- 12:51Speaker 1: probably get a good chance. I wonder what, Yeah, I
- 12:52Speaker 1: wonder what would look like if I could speak? Um,
- 12:57Speaker 1: do they give Hoyer, you know, less because quote unquote
- 13:01Speaker 1: doesn't need them or is Zappy strictly the guy who's
- 13:04Speaker 1: doing the opportunity stuff at the under practice learning with
- 13:07Speaker 1: the other rookies and you know, young players. I wonder
- 13:10Speaker 1: how they'll I don't know, you know, so as as
- 13:13Speaker 1: you mentioned, unbelievable production, but against lesser competition. But you
- 13:20Speaker 1: just I would be curious if I was the coaches,
- 13:22Speaker 1: all right, early on, you know, whether it's spring or
- 13:25Speaker 1: early on in camp, Let's get him, you know, see
- 13:29Speaker 1: how he manages, you know, thrown through the trees, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: get get a rush, get the tennis rackets up there,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know. Um, let's see what he can do against bigger,
- 13:40Speaker 1: faster people. Yeah, you know, I mean it's a great
- 13:42Speaker 1: comparison of just you know how Mac looked in the
- 13:45Speaker 1: pocket last year. Because he's not a big guy either.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I mean he's probably six two, maybe six, maybe almost
- 13:49Speaker 1: six three, But I think it's a it's a good point. Again.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I watched a bunch of his highlights in film and stuff,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know, after they drafted him, and there's a lot
- 13:58Speaker 1: of wide open throw is where guys are just streaking
- 14:01Speaker 1: down the field, you know, and he seemed to have
- 14:03Speaker 1: just a full grasp of the offense, and you know,
- 14:06Speaker 1: going against teams like Army and that were just overmatched
- 14:09Speaker 1: by what they were doing. And so we'll see how
- 14:13Speaker 1: how it translate. I think the size is a big thing.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But you know, if he if he has that kind
- 14:16Speaker 1: of pocket presence and is able to understand what the
- 14:19Speaker 1: Patriots are trying to do in a similar way and
- 14:21Speaker 1: get the ball out quick, then then maybe I mean,
- 14:22Speaker 1: you know, Drew Brees is what six one at tops hops,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, but he was just uncanny about knowing where
- 14:31Speaker 1: guys were gonna be and his and he didn't have
- 14:33Speaker 1: the strongest arm, but his accuracy was was right there.
- 14:37Speaker 1: The timing was unbelieving, anticipation, like just seemed to throw.
- 14:41Speaker 1: You gotta have that if you're gonna be six feet tall. Yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, well, I mean, like we said, he'll
- 14:46Speaker 1: probably get a lot of good chances and yeah, I,
- 14:49Speaker 1: like Paul said, I think in two with the joint practices,
- 14:52Speaker 1: because that's what what I really enjoyed with Mac where
- 14:54Speaker 1: it was, you know, can he push it down the field?
- 14:57Speaker 1: I wonder if you'll see much of him in those
- 14:59Speaker 1: But it is an interesting thing that Look, I'm not
- 15:03Speaker 1: going to sit here and say, oh my god, what
- 15:04Speaker 1: are they doing, you know, trading a third string quarterback,
- 15:08Speaker 1: But I do think it's interesting that they decided, just
- 15:10Speaker 1: by drafting a kid before you even really get him
- 15:13Speaker 1: into your building and get a chance to see him
- 15:16Speaker 1: operate for I don't know a month, you make this
- 15:20Speaker 1: move because I am a little skeptical of the size
- 15:25Speaker 1: coupled with sort of the lack of athleticism. He's not
- 15:29Speaker 1: a runner, He's he's a pocket passer, and he played
- 15:32Speaker 1: in a very quarterback friendly system that has been extremely
- 15:37Speaker 1: successful at the college level and really not in the pros. Now,
- 15:40Speaker 1: maybe some of those things are changing with the way
- 15:43Speaker 1: the NFL is changing. You know, some of these guys now, yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 1: maybe have a better opportunity to succeed. But you know,
- 15:51Speaker 1: it's one thing if you're you're six feet and you're
- 15:53Speaker 1: Russell Wilson or you know, Kyler Murray. This guy's not
- 15:57Speaker 1: like that, right, This guy's more Mac Joe. Yeah, only
- 16:01Speaker 1: a couple inches shorter and not really not really a
- 16:06Speaker 1: threat to get out of the pocket and make a
- 16:08Speaker 1: lot of plays. So I do have some some you know,
- 16:12Speaker 1: curiosity is to how that translates. But the fact that
- 16:16Speaker 1: they didn't really care and they just said, well, we'll go.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I wonder if you know, you might see two quarterbacks again,
- 16:22Speaker 1: like which I think is Belichick's preference. Yeah, with roster makeup, right,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and I'd be curious to see how that all unfolds. Yeah,
- 16:32Speaker 1: all right, Eight five five five hundred is the eight
- 16:34Speaker 1: ticket hutline a web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 16:37Speaker 1: the email address as we start off the show again.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Today is schedule released day. NFL Network will have the
- 16:45Speaker 1: big show at eight o'clock. But you know, over the
- 16:47Speaker 1: course of the day, I think they're going to allow
- 16:50Speaker 1: teams to announce their home openers, so that includes the
- 16:54Speaker 1: Patriots of course. So later on today you'll probably hear
- 16:57Speaker 1: what the home opener is for the Patriots, and then
- 17:00Speaker 1: if if you're a team that isn't starting at home,
- 17:04Speaker 1: you'll also know maybe one or two other games you know, yeah,
- 17:09Speaker 1: so the first two weeks. Yeah, well, and I'm not
- 17:11Speaker 1: going to fall into that. We'll find out who the
- 17:14Speaker 1: opener is, even if it's on the road, right because
- 17:17Speaker 1: I learned, Yeah, don't don't say that. Don't say it. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I don't know. There's been there's been like various reports
- 17:28Speaker 1: that have been up and then down and no that's wrong.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So I don't I mean I do want to know more,
- 17:32Speaker 1: just for like, what's the schedule going to be, like
- 17:35Speaker 1: baby Paul, Like what are the late games? How where
- 17:37Speaker 1: are the short turnarounds? But um, I want to look
- 17:40Speaker 1: where those Buffalo games are? Those Buffalo Miami games, those
- 17:42Speaker 1: are the ones I think to uh yeah, the Circle
- 17:45Speaker 1: absolutely aren't, aren't you. That's the game that's your measuring stick, right?
- 17:49Speaker 1: Those are the big boys now like for twenty years,
- 17:53Speaker 1: everybody in the AC's is you know, our measuring stick
- 17:56Speaker 1: is the New England Patriots. Now it's the Buffalo Bills.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Really would you really have a preference of when you're
- 18:02Speaker 1: looking at your schedule. I mean I think you consider
- 18:03Speaker 1: your team as all right, are we a new team?
- 18:06Speaker 1: Are we going to be is there gonna be more gelling?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Or are we kind of a veteran team. I don't know.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I just wonder how football looks at it. Do they?
- 18:12Speaker 1: I mean, I know that they're like, we don't care.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Just tell us what's the schedule is, we'll put it together.
- 18:16Speaker 1: But you know, if you're really trying to maximize your
- 18:20Speaker 1: opportunities to get to the playoffs, do you have a
- 18:22Speaker 1: preference of I'd love to get just get my division
- 18:24Speaker 1: games out of the way early, and you know, kind
- 18:26Speaker 1: of see what that is or you know, get or get.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Like I always look at it a little bit like this,
- 18:31Speaker 1: where I'd love to get the NFC games out of
- 18:34Speaker 1: the way early because I think those are you're really
- 18:36Speaker 1: a little sloppy early in the season. Those games aren't
- 18:37Speaker 1: going to affect you as much. Down I would always
- 18:39Speaker 1: assume that I'd I'd like to have opportunities at the
- 18:42Speaker 1: end of the season to make up for past mistakes.
- 18:45Speaker 1: So I want to spread out my divisional games as
- 18:49Speaker 1: much as possible so I can get a second look
- 18:51Speaker 1: at them when hopefully I'm a little better. Yeah, if
- 18:54Speaker 1: I'm playing bad at the end of the season doesn't matter,
- 18:56Speaker 1: you know, But if I'm playing better in the season
- 18:58Speaker 1: and I sucked early. I want to have a second chance,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know. It was kind of That's the way I
- 19:03Speaker 1: look at it was kind of bizarre last year where
- 19:04Speaker 1: they had Miami book ending the season, then you had
- 19:07Speaker 1: like the Jets like twice within three or four weeks,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and then the Bills also like twice within what three
- 19:13Speaker 1: weeks four weeks? I mean, it was kind of strange.
- 19:15Speaker 1: It was strange that. That's the only part, Like I
- 19:18Speaker 1: don't really I don't have a huge preference, like I'm
- 19:21Speaker 1: not a big oh this, you know, you need to
- 19:23Speaker 1: do this or that. The only thing I would say,
- 19:25Speaker 1: I don't really like the Buffalo situation from last year.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I don't like Division two division games and you know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: both in the last like five or six weeks in
- 19:36Speaker 1: the season like that. Yeah, I don't I don't really
- 19:39Speaker 1: get that. What about division games on Thursday night as
- 19:43Speaker 1: that I don't like that. I don't like that is
- 19:45Speaker 1: that feels like those games are really important and you
- 19:48Speaker 1: might be coming into it with I mean, I do
- 19:50Speaker 1: like that you know the team, so it's not like
- 19:52Speaker 1: you're playing you know, the Vikings or some of the
- 19:54Speaker 1: Bears on a short week or something like that. But
- 19:57Speaker 1: I just think those games are so important and to
- 19:59Speaker 1: put them Thursday night when you might be at half
- 20:01Speaker 1: power okay with someone someone is going to be at
- 20:06Speaker 1: a gross disadvantage in the division game to travel too. Yeah,
- 20:11Speaker 1: I mean like the road team or like you said,
- 20:13Speaker 1: like maybe someone that's a little banged up. That's a
- 20:15Speaker 1: big game. Like the division games are the most important games.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Bill says that all the time, right, the first priority
- 20:20Speaker 1: is the division. So I don't. I agree with you.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And I know they do that once in a while
- 20:25Speaker 1: because they're trying to help the teams. You know, there's
- 20:28Speaker 1: less preparation ostensibly that goes into the division games because
- 20:32Speaker 1: you know them so well. I agree with you, Mike,
- 20:34Speaker 1: I would rather not have a division game on a
- 20:36Speaker 1: Thursday night. Yeah. All right, let's get to the phone
- 20:41Speaker 1: schedule talk. Let's get to the phones and emails. UM,
- 20:44Speaker 1: start off with the A stick and hut line. AJ's
- 20:47Speaker 1: in Illinois. What's up? AJ? Hey, guys, how's it going? Good? Good? Um?
- 20:53Speaker 1: First about the student trade, I personally am a fan
- 20:56Speaker 1: of it. UM student was kind of that bridge quarterback
- 21:00Speaker 1: for a while after Brady before Jones came in, and
- 21:03Speaker 1: I'm glad he never played a snap that was meaningful.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I appreciate that he went over to Vegas. Good for him.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He needs a job. Good for him. The team dynamic
- 21:14Speaker 1: is kind of molding well within the quarterback round, I think,
- 21:16Speaker 1: especially with this new kid coming in who very similar
- 21:21Speaker 1: to Jones. But the part that confuses me, that is
- 21:25Speaker 1: pun intended strange to me is the offensive line. There's
- 21:29Speaker 1: been a lot of change this passed off season, and
- 21:34Speaker 1: how do you see that solidifying after the first four weeks?
- 21:37Speaker 1: And I'll take your answer off the phone. All right, thanks.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean, well, three out of the five aren't changing
- 21:46Speaker 1: in terms of starters. It's Trent Brown when and then
- 21:49Speaker 1: Andrew's in the middle, you're assuming Cole Strange, So that's
- 21:53Speaker 1: that's a big change. And then if on when you
- 21:55Speaker 1: was the other guard, that's not that big a change. Yeah,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know, I think that's major change. I think he's right.
- 22:01Speaker 1: But I mean, well, yeah, you're changing the two guards,
- 22:05Speaker 1: you're changing you know, forty percent of your offensive line
- 22:08Speaker 1: is going to be different. Yeah, but I don't know
- 22:10Speaker 1: the guards. But I agree, And I was just about
- 22:14Speaker 1: to say, I don't really understand what the like, what
- 22:17Speaker 1: is the big question? Like we know that the quarterback
- 22:21Speaker 1: room is in good shape because we got rid of
- 22:24Speaker 1: Stidham somehow. But we don't have any idea what's good?
- 22:27Speaker 1: I think I think I have. I have a guess
- 22:28Speaker 1: that you're right. Strange is going to play one guard
- 22:31Speaker 1: and the one he's gonna play the other? Right, what
- 22:34Speaker 1: what's There's no difference there? Like what's Yeah? I mean
- 22:36Speaker 1: I think that they're not as good as the players
- 22:38Speaker 1: that left. But I think what he meant. I don't
- 22:41Speaker 1: want to speak for him, but I think what he's
- 22:43Speaker 1: saying about the quarterback room is this kid is in
- 22:47Speaker 1: terms of style more like Max. So you know, then
- 22:51Speaker 1: who is what is Stidham style? Like Perios freak out
- 22:57Speaker 1: and run out of the pocket? Hold on being told
- 23:03Speaker 1: that that trade is not official? Yeah, you better watch it. No,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but I don't. I don't think there's much difference between
- 23:10Speaker 1: the styles. I think Stidham can move, probably a little
- 23:13Speaker 1: bit better than Mac Jones, but I don't think that's
- 23:15Speaker 1: what his game is. Yeah, and I think his game
- 23:16Speaker 1: is as a pocket passer. Yeah. I don't think there's
- 23:18Speaker 1: a huge stylistic I agree with Mike. I don't think
- 23:21Speaker 1: he's that good. Zappy's like a jerk in the quarterback
- 23:24Speaker 1: Well I have yeah, I have no idea and ideas
- 23:26Speaker 1: and then talking to his offensive coordinator and that's not
- 23:31Speaker 1: the kid. I mean, he's yeah, he's all accounts. He
- 23:33Speaker 1: seems to be a really good kid, good kid, and
- 23:36Speaker 1: I think he will fit. And I just I don't
- 23:38Speaker 1: have any more or less concerns about the offense. The
- 23:41Speaker 1: offensive line has some concerns because you lost two starters. Yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 1: like we've known that for you know, two months. Yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: a couple of things. I mean Stidham, I think this
- 23:51Speaker 1: probably speaks to the kind of player was like, I
- 23:53Speaker 1: don't know, just average quarterback. Like there wasn't like you
- 23:55Speaker 1: always want to you draft a quarterback, you look for like, well,
- 23:58Speaker 1: how can we put him in a bar that will
- 24:00Speaker 1: explain him? Is he athletic? Is he like a Lamar Jackson?
- 24:03Speaker 1: He can't really he needs to work on his throw.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Is he a smart guy who gets the ball out?
- 24:07Speaker 1: Can't really run? You know, always Mac Joe stid him.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I never felt like there was It was just I
- 24:10Speaker 1: don't know, he's he can run? Okay, He had no
- 24:13Speaker 1: KA career. He was supposed to be a lot better
- 24:15Speaker 1: than that, though, and never like as a college recruit,
- 24:19Speaker 1: he was supposed to be spread. But and then I
- 24:22Speaker 1: think the transition on the defense and the offensive line
- 24:25Speaker 1: is just you know, I mean, I think Shack Mason
- 24:27Speaker 1: was such a big part of kind of their personality
- 24:30Speaker 1: with his you know, he wasn't the biggest guy, but
- 24:32Speaker 1: real mobile and able to get out in front. I
- 24:34Speaker 1: think if on when you goes into that, he's a
- 24:37Speaker 1: little bit less mobile, but maybe a little bit bigger,
- 24:40Speaker 1: maybe a little bit stronger. I think the hope with
- 24:42Speaker 1: Cold Strange though, is that, you know, you can take
- 24:44Speaker 1: the kind of athleticism that Shack Mason had and get
- 24:48Speaker 1: that to Ted Carriss. So I don't think was the
- 24:50Speaker 1: most athletic guy, but was savvy and tough and able
- 24:53Speaker 1: to do it. So I think there will be a
- 24:55Speaker 1: little bit of a transition. But I mean I think
- 24:57Speaker 1: he got to feel at least a little bit positive
- 25:00Speaker 1: out on when you Trent Brown, those two big tough
- 25:02Speaker 1: guys on the right side and then Strange and win
- 25:05Speaker 1: if they're able to you know, live up to expectations
- 25:08Speaker 1: being athletic and able to you know, do some of
- 25:10Speaker 1: the stuff that they did with Shack. What was Trent
- 25:13Speaker 1: Brown drafted. When he was originally drafted, he was low.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Oh he was low. I okay, are you looking, Paul.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I don't know, I'm gonna I'm gonna look, but uh yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 1: I feel like he was. He was surprising for his size.
- 25:28Speaker 1: UM hope please sor right. UM, got a lot of
- 25:32Speaker 1: emails coming in, UM, A lot of reaction to Tuesday
- 25:38Speaker 1: show with the movies and the hot dogs and the steak.
- 25:41Speaker 1: But I want to keep it seventh round. Oh really,
- 25:43Speaker 1: Trent Brown was a seventh round pick. Ye, same for him.
- 25:46Speaker 1: That is something, But I want to keep it to
- 25:49Speaker 1: UM football at least for now. UM. So let me
- 25:53Speaker 1: go through some of these, um Andre from New Jersey,
- 25:59Speaker 1: just to bring back your conversation on Tuesday. I just
- 26:01Speaker 1: don't get here. I say football and he starts out
- 26:04Speaker 1: with steak. I just don't get people that eat a
- 26:06Speaker 1: well done steak. It tastes like rubber and absolutely no flavor.
- 26:10Speaker 1: When my parents go to a restaurant in order a
- 26:12Speaker 1: steak well done, I shake my head in disappointment. Mom, Dad,
- 26:15Speaker 1: get it right. It's a medium rare. But here's his
- 26:18Speaker 1: predictions for the upcoming season. One. The Patriots split with
- 26:24Speaker 1: the Bills in some way somehow win the division. Okay,
- 26:28Speaker 1: that would be huge because we've got that billboard ready
- 26:32Speaker 1: to go. It didn't take long. Remember we had that
- 26:35Speaker 1: last year after the Patriots had ruined the Bills. I
- 26:37Speaker 1: think we got to get rid of billboards here too.
- 26:39Speaker 1: The Patriots will be the top two seed in the conference.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Holy crap, what is this His predictions? Three mac Jones
- 26:47Speaker 1: throws forty three and twenty yards, thirty touchdowns and ten picks.
- 26:52Speaker 1: That's the first one that I think that has a chance.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And on the defensive side of the field, ball Moore
- 26:57Speaker 1: dugger in, one of the linebackers will be all pro.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I go one for four on giving you a more
- 27:06Speaker 1: than two percent chance. Yeah, that's that's how unlikely things.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Those are optimistic predictions real quick, just because we were
- 27:14Speaker 1: just talking about the Trent Brown thing. Yeah, so he
- 27:17Speaker 1: was a seventh round pick. This was off NFL dot
- 27:20Speaker 1: Com in his draft profile from Lance zero Line zero
- 27:24Speaker 1: line um. Brown has the pure size to block out
- 27:28Speaker 1: the sun, and unlike some players of his bulk, he
- 27:30Speaker 1: knows how to use it. He can plow holes as
- 27:33Speaker 1: a run blocker, but can only play right guard in
- 27:35Speaker 1: power schemes. His lack of playing experience at conditioning concerns
- 27:39Speaker 1: could hurt his draft stock, So a side of penciling
- 27:42Speaker 1: him as a guard nailed it. Yeah, absolutely nailed it. Yeah,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and that's why he was a seventh round pick. My
- 27:49Speaker 1: guess is he didn't play a lot at Florida, much
- 27:51Speaker 1: like he doesn't play a lot in the NFL. Yeah,
- 27:53Speaker 1: and he has conditioning concerns. Yeah, Bill and DC. Since
- 27:57Speaker 1: it seems like Matt Patricia is now the candidate to
- 28:00Speaker 1: be calling plays again, why is that? Did he ye yesterday?
- 28:07Speaker 1: This season? I had a question about how that works.
- 28:10Speaker 1: How much a play calling is based on what the
- 28:12Speaker 1: computer software spits out based on factors like down a distance, field, position,
- 28:17Speaker 1: opposing defense, et cetera. And how much is a spur
- 28:19Speaker 1: of the moment gut feeling by the coach calling the plays.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I guess what I'm asking is how much will we
- 28:25Speaker 1: depend on Patricia's intellect and how much will be him
- 28:28Speaker 1: going by what the stats say is the right call?
- 28:31Speaker 1: I mean a lot. I think that they have that
- 28:35Speaker 1: playboard where you know, they have the plays they like
- 28:37Speaker 1: by situation, But I think it's up to the you know,
- 28:40Speaker 1: offensive coordinator to you know, not only know what right
- 28:43Speaker 1: played a call, but to you know, to sequence plays
- 28:46Speaker 1: and to string things together so that they work in union.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And that's been one of the big questions I have
- 28:50Speaker 1: of having a new offensive coordinator being able to you know,
- 28:54Speaker 1: do those kind of things. And I should probably just say,
- 28:56Speaker 1: like Mike Reece yesterday, it's kind of strange how we
- 28:59Speaker 1: said it too, was like it was like, you know,
- 29:01Speaker 1: the voice you might hear at Patriots practice would be
- 29:04Speaker 1: Matt Both Yeah, Mit, Patricia and Joe Judge as the
- 29:08Speaker 1: right as the co offensive coordinators. So and then he said,
- 29:11Speaker 1: don't be surprised if Patricia takes a leading role. Okay,
- 29:14Speaker 1: but like based on everything he said, it was two
- 29:16Speaker 1: guys talking yet yeah, the OTAs. But I will say,
- 29:19Speaker 1: like calling plays, calling plays early in a game is
- 29:23Speaker 1: different than calling plays late night when they're scripted and
- 29:25Speaker 1: you probably have a site that you go into the
- 29:27Speaker 1: game you know you want to get going. And then,
- 29:30Speaker 1: as as Belichick likes to say, the game declares itself
- 29:32Speaker 1: and now you know what we're gonna need to do.
- 29:35Speaker 1: We're gonna need to run the ball almost every down,
- 29:37Speaker 1: Like if you're in Buffalo or you know how many
- 29:38Speaker 1: pass plays did they even go into that game with.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how much they knew ahead
- 29:42Speaker 1: of time, but it's one of the big things. And
- 29:44Speaker 1: you know, as much as these guys are very experienced coaches,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think that there is definitely an art form to three.
- 29:51Speaker 1: And I don't know in the right moment to spring
- 29:52Speaker 1: that thing on him like that kind of stuff. Yeah,
- 29:54Speaker 1: I don't know what the percentage would be to answer
- 29:56Speaker 1: his specific question, but I would say that every single
- 29:59Speaker 1: time team has all of the computer data available, so
- 30:05Speaker 1: they go into a game with these players will work
- 30:10Speaker 1: against these defenses in these situations. Every team does that.
- 30:13Speaker 1: The play callers that separate themselves are the ones that
- 30:16Speaker 1: have the field. Yeah, and I don't know that might
- 30:19Speaker 1: only be five players a game. They see the matchups.
- 30:22Speaker 1: You know, we're we're really beating there, you know, you know,
- 30:26Speaker 1: left end or whatever you know, or like, you know,
- 30:30Speaker 1: it's a key third, it's a key third down in
- 30:32Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, and all of the data says they're
- 30:35Speaker 1: going to be in this defense and on third and seven,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and we need to pick it up and this is
- 30:40Speaker 1: the right call. But something tells Josh McDaniels. We're going
- 30:45Speaker 1: to do something different than that, and the ones that
- 30:48Speaker 1: can do that successfully are the ones that are good
- 30:51Speaker 1: at it. Yeah, I mean it's impossible to put a
- 30:54Speaker 1: number on it, especially when you're not privy to what
- 30:57Speaker 1: went into every play call. But I would have to
- 31:00Speaker 1: think that you guys are exactly right. There's a feel
- 31:03Speaker 1: to it in that you can't really define. It's a
- 31:06Speaker 1: gut thing that you venture away from the chart at
- 31:10Speaker 1: some point because you see something or sent something. Yeah,
- 31:14Speaker 1: it's a lot on that, Patricia. I mean, it's a
- 31:16Speaker 1: lot on a guy who's never called a play before, period.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Like I think it's a recipe for disaster. Yeah. I
- 31:24Speaker 1: still think the tight Ends coach is eventually going to
- 31:27Speaker 1: be your play caller. I think that would make people
- 31:29Speaker 1: feel better if he's involved somehow. But the signs are
- 31:33Speaker 1: pointing towards I mean, two x head coaches on the surface,
- 31:37Speaker 1: all three it's the same because Nick Kayley's never done anything.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But but you'd have some I do agree with with
- 31:46Speaker 1: agreeing here identifying a young guy right as opposed to
- 31:49Speaker 1: a failed head coach who right, right, wrong or indifferent.
- 31:54Speaker 1: We don't really have a lot of faith in right,
- 31:56Speaker 1: and who hasn't been hasn't been a real offensive coach either.
- 31:59Speaker 1: But wouldn't you think that if you ask most Patriots
- 32:02Speaker 1: fans their confidence level, and Joe Judge or Matt Patricia
- 32:05Speaker 1: can't be very high. Well, yeah, they're looking at their
- 32:08Speaker 1: record as a head coach, right, Well, and I would
- 32:11Speaker 1: say that it looked at what they did here too,
- 32:13Speaker 1: Like I think Joe Judge was an adequate special teams coach,
- 32:17Speaker 1: but Matt Patricia was not very successful as a defensive coordinator.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Despite having one of the best calls in Super Bowl history.
- 32:23Speaker 1: I knew it was coming. Wow. Like their defense, you
- 32:27Speaker 1: know what's the last impression of their defense was passive,
- 32:31Speaker 1: couldn't get off the field on third down, gave up
- 32:33Speaker 1: forty in the Super Bowl. The next year, you won
- 32:36Speaker 1: the Super Bowl because your defense completely went to a
- 32:38Speaker 1: different aggressive level under Brian Flores. Yeah, like that was
- 32:41Speaker 1: a major part of it. Now, I know what Tom Brady, absolutely,
- 32:45Speaker 1: but Tom Brady was there the year before too. They
- 32:47Speaker 1: were scoring all those points when Patricia was a defensive
- 32:49Speaker 1: coordinator and it wasn't enough. Yeah, I can't lie, Paul.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I'm one hundred percent there. I was one of those
- 32:54Speaker 1: people who was excited about what Flores did to the defense,
- 32:57Speaker 1: how it looked being a defense guy too. It just
- 33:00Speaker 1: felt like Patricia plays the odds. He kind of plays
- 33:04Speaker 1: the odds. He doesn't get aggressive. And I think that
- 33:07Speaker 1: I connected that somewhat to Belichick too. I mean, I
- 33:09Speaker 1: think Belichick, I think in his heart he likes to
- 33:11Speaker 1: play the odds a little bit more than be aggressive too.
- 33:14Speaker 1: But I just have to connect it to like you said,
- 33:17Speaker 1: I mean, regardless of how you feel about coaches, like,
- 33:19Speaker 1: none of them have done this. None of them, I
- 33:21Speaker 1: mean both of them. I know they've been around the
- 33:22Speaker 1: game and they they you know, are well versed in
- 33:25Speaker 1: what goes into it. But still, I mean, I would
- 33:28Speaker 1: feel if you told me Joe Judge was going to
- 33:30Speaker 1: be the special team's coach, well, all right, if you
- 33:32Speaker 1: don't mean Mattress coming back to be the defensive corner.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Don't love it. But I know what he's doing and
- 33:37Speaker 1: and and it's going to be competent. And I think
- 33:39Speaker 1: you're just putting a huge question mark of you know,
- 33:42Speaker 1: and and and again tie it back to what's the
- 33:44Speaker 1: most important thing for this football team right now? Mac
- 33:46Speaker 1: Jones and developing him and putting guys around him to
- 33:49Speaker 1: be successful and putting together an offense that can compete,
- 33:52Speaker 1: you know, with some really really good offenses. Like I
- 33:56Speaker 1: agree with Mike. Sorry, yeah, I know. Wow, I'll disagree
- 33:59Speaker 1: a little bit. Eric. I still say that their brief
- 34:02Speaker 1: experience as head coaches will help them. I mean agree.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I don't think it can hurt. Yeah, yeah, because then
- 34:08Speaker 1: they were we know that they were overseeing it, they
- 34:10Speaker 1: had input into how it was going. But I you know,
- 34:14Speaker 1: just to go back to the original point of it's
- 34:16Speaker 1: another thing to be there with the play card in
- 34:17Speaker 1: your hand and you've you know, I know they both
- 34:19Speaker 1: called plays in the NFL before, but you know, is
- 34:22Speaker 1: it is it going to be able to take take
- 34:24Speaker 1: a step forward? And how different does it look from
- 34:26Speaker 1: wonder like I wonder what the players think now, Like
- 34:29Speaker 1: guys like you know mccordy that that have been around.
- 34:32Speaker 1: It'll be fine, yeah, but what if you're just like
- 34:36Speaker 1: some random player and you're like that guy that I
- 34:38Speaker 1: saw it like I don't know Ma Patricia from when
- 34:40Speaker 1: he was here. I only know what I saw on TV,
- 34:43Speaker 1: right or Joe Judge running quarterback sneaks on on third
- 34:46Speaker 1: and seven. And there's also just a level of trust
- 34:48Speaker 1: with you know, with Mac and Josh McDaniels last year
- 34:51Speaker 1: where you know, you know, Josh McDaniels has seen everything
- 34:53Speaker 1: there is to see as an offensive coordinator and had
- 34:56Speaker 1: to adjust in every kind of way you can imagine,
- 34:58Speaker 1: had to do it with the greatest quarterback all time.
- 35:00Speaker 1: But still like there's a level of um, you know,
- 35:03Speaker 1: respect there that you know he's been in there and
- 35:05Speaker 1: he know he's done it before. And you know, I'm
- 35:08Speaker 1: the same thing like I know Mac, I'm sure you
- 35:09Speaker 1: know knows who Matt Patrician, Joe Judge arm respects them,
- 35:12Speaker 1: but does it ring the same way in his ears
- 35:15Speaker 1: when they tell him, well, this is what's going to happen,
- 35:18Speaker 1: And you're like, Okay, you know, but I think they're
- 35:20Speaker 1: gonna have to earn that trust. And you know for
- 35:23Speaker 1: for somebody like Mac too, I mean you're building up
- 35:26Speaker 1: starting over a little bit in some ways. I think
- 35:29Speaker 1: Keith and Connecticut quick over under on how many games
- 35:32Speaker 1: you think some of the current rookies will end up
- 35:34Speaker 1: as a healthy scratch for the sake of the game operators,
- 35:40Speaker 1: though it would all would be available to play eighteen games,
- 35:43Speaker 1: Cole Strange one and a hey, healthy healthy scratches under under,
- 35:49Speaker 1: Tae Kwon Thornton four and a hey, I'll take the
- 35:53Speaker 1: under on that one too. Really, I don't think he'll
- 35:55Speaker 1: be a healthy scratch more than four and a half time.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I might go over on that one. But five six
- 36:00Speaker 1: games I'm really not happy then. Yeah. Uh, Marcus Jones
- 36:05Speaker 1: five and a Hay under under, I think he's he's
- 36:08Speaker 1: every game. Jack Jones seven and a Hay, I go over.
- 36:13Speaker 1: That's where it gets tougher. I'll say over Pierre Strong
- 36:16Speaker 1: nine and a Hay under under. I'll take the over
- 36:20Speaker 1: on that. Bailey's happy sixteen and a Hay. I will
- 36:24Speaker 1: take the over, and the rest of the drafted players
- 36:27Speaker 1: sixty games, okay, whatever, Yeah, totally with Freddy said on
- 36:32Speaker 1: the well done steak situation. Should I think anyone with
- 36:35Speaker 1: any taste in their mouth, Oh, that's certainly my preference.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I just don't hate people who it's a waste of life,
- 36:41Speaker 1: like it the way they want it. It's a waste
- 36:42Speaker 1: of I would take kinds uh Stubert and Robert's that trio.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I think one of them will emerge into some kind
- 36:51Speaker 1: of role bigger than we're kind of expected, kind of
- 36:53Speaker 1: like on when you did and when you I thought
- 36:54Speaker 1: was kind of a right off guy. Then you saw
- 36:57Speaker 1: him play, and I think there are guys like that,
- 36:59Speaker 1: especially along the offensive line. I could see I would
- 37:01Speaker 1: go hid somebody like the offensive line. I agree with you.
- 37:04Speaker 1: One of those guys could replace a like a Just
- 37:07Speaker 1: or a Haran totally. They might think those guys are better, ye,
- 37:11Speaker 1: Jonathan writes in Hey guys and Mike, he says, wow,
- 37:15Speaker 1: now Mike playing the artic role. Yeah, you don't want
- 37:18Speaker 1: that role here. I just want to pay my final
- 37:20Speaker 1: respects to the Stidham era under Belichick. Who were the
- 37:23Speaker 1: best and worst backups? How does Stidham compare to Rohan, Davy,
- 37:27Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell. I feel like those are the bottom three.
- 37:30Speaker 1: If you had to win a game, counting out Castle
- 37:32Speaker 1: and Jimmy g who would you go with Testa Verdi? Huh?
- 37:37Speaker 1: If you had to win a game, who would you
- 37:39Speaker 1: go with other than Castle? About Damon Hewart, m all
- 37:44Speaker 1: he did was win games right when he's a professional.
- 37:47Speaker 1: He was flight five and zero when when any any
- 37:51Speaker 1: for the Patriots look up his record as a starting
- 37:53Speaker 1: quarterback as he played for the Patriots. No, that's what
- 37:55Speaker 1: I was asking. I don't even remember playing a game
- 37:58Speaker 1: for the Patriots. All I remember he lost his job. U. No,
- 38:00Speaker 1: but he went from back up to third when Brady
- 38:02Speaker 1: beat him up starter in the NFL. I think he's
- 38:04Speaker 1: got a good record. Oh, I'm not gonna doubt you
- 38:07Speaker 1: on that, because I have no idea that Jacobe Brossett. Um,
- 38:12Speaker 1: I think the was Kevin O'Connell the backup or was
- 38:17Speaker 1: he third string? Um? I think he was third string.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I thought it was it was him Castle Brady, and
- 38:24Speaker 1: then he backed up. Well maybe he backed up Castle
- 38:26Speaker 1: in O eight. Maybe I think he might have been
- 38:29Speaker 1: the backup. I think that was Matt. I think that
- 38:31Speaker 1: was Matt Goodierrez. Oh that's a good one too. The goot. Yeah,
- 38:35Speaker 1: we all thought he was the thing for a little bit. Really, no,
- 38:38Speaker 1: we didn't, just for a second, just for a second.
- 38:41Speaker 1: It seems funny in hindsight when you had Brady and
- 38:43Speaker 1: your thought, like guys were, yeah, it's gonna be a
- 38:47Speaker 1: long time. I don't know who's bad though, it's hard
- 38:52Speaker 1: to say. Then really got in. I mean Rohan Davy,
- 38:54Speaker 1: he had a terrible look, Damon here was fifteen and
- 38:56Speaker 1: twelve as a staughter, not bad, No when winning quarterback?
- 39:02Speaker 1: Did he ever start a game as a Patriot? No?
- 39:05Speaker 1: I did. Never. He played in four games as a Patriot. Okay,
- 39:09Speaker 1: Doug Flutie, Who would I want to play quarterback other
- 39:17Speaker 1: than Castle or Garoppolo? It's probably perset. I think. I
- 39:20Speaker 1: think you're right, but I don't think. I don't think
- 39:23Speaker 1: much of any of them. Yeah, I think you know,
- 39:25Speaker 1: Testa Verdie's not a bad one, you know. See I'm
- 39:28Speaker 1: counting Testa Verdie like when he was here, yeah, held
- 39:30Speaker 1: forty five years right, yeah, like in his career, sure
- 39:34Speaker 1: he would be the what pletza would be there the
- 39:36Speaker 1: answer everything? Right, he was a backup, But I don't
- 39:39Speaker 1: count that. Yeah, dare you forget about your boy? But
- 39:42Speaker 1: I'm not like I'm trying to think of like Rohan
- 39:45Speaker 1: Davy was a good one that the emailer brought up,
- 39:47Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell those times, But I guess the best backup
- 39:49Speaker 1: was Garoppolo, right, Ryan Mallett, Like, I don't want any
- 39:53Speaker 1: of those guys playing foot me. Yeah, look out, Zach Robinson.
- 39:58Speaker 1: He could cover a kickoff. What was what was the
- 40:02Speaker 1: kid's name for Denny. You get me? I do. Alex
- 40:08Speaker 1: in Alabama has a trivia question question. How many AFC
- 40:12Speaker 1: teams have the Patriots never played against in the playoffs
- 40:16Speaker 1: and which teams are they playoff teams they've never played
- 40:19Speaker 1: against the playoffs? See all time? All time? Cleveland, Cleveland.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Didn't they play Cleveland? Yeah? They Cincinnati, there's one played
- 40:35Speaker 1: the Jets played Miami, Pittsburgh, Ravens, Browns, Jeeves Challengers. Yeah,
- 40:45Speaker 1: I think Cincinnatis. Cincinnati. Cincinnati is the lone team that
- 40:50Speaker 1: they haven't faced in the playoffs. They'll be here this year.
- 40:53Speaker 1: We'll find out. Joe Burrow. That'll be a fun one.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I'm excited to see what players are you guys excited
- 40:58Speaker 1: to see external players that come and see him? Person
- 41:01Speaker 1: here got Joe Burra, Joe Burraw, Justin Fields, Uh see him?
- 41:08Speaker 1: I'd like to see Yeah, Lions, Goot Jamison like I
- 41:12Speaker 1: could see me um in the pregame show when when
- 41:14Speaker 1: you and I are doing the pregame social with m
- 41:17Speaker 1: Hardy talking myself into you gonna give a chance to
- 41:20Speaker 1: see Justin Fields? Yeah, see what he looks like in
- 41:23Speaker 1: it always kind of changed a little b when you
- 41:24Speaker 1: see a guy in person, they just I don't really
- 41:28Speaker 1: I didn't realize he was that big, or I didn't
- 41:30Speaker 1: realize he could throw like that just when you get
- 41:32Speaker 1: him in person. Finally, I just have to read this
- 41:36Speaker 1: one because it's not football, but I can making fun
- 41:40Speaker 1: of me Joel and san Antonio joy listening to the show.
- 41:43Speaker 1: It's always entertaining, especially in the off season, so that
- 41:46Speaker 1: dude that ripped y'all the other day doesn't really matter.
- 41:49Speaker 1: We stand by y'all and the third best rated podcasts
- 41:53Speaker 1: in the area. However, anyhow, staying a little longer with offseason.
- 41:57Speaker 1: In TV movie talk, I took Fred's advice that time
- 42:00Speaker 1: he talked about that Ryan Gosling movie Drive. It was
- 42:03Speaker 1: pretty mad, to be honest, So when I heard him
- 42:05Speaker 1: recommend Severance, I just couldn't wait. Severance is the most
- 42:09Speaker 1: boring slow show I've ever seen. Honestly, I must have
- 42:12Speaker 1: fallen asleep at least twice during each episode. I found
- 42:15Speaker 1: myself having to rewind over and over to catch up
- 42:18Speaker 1: what I missed. That being said, after the snooze fest
- 42:22Speaker 1: that was that show, of course, I can't wait for
- 42:24Speaker 1: season two to drop. Keep up the awesome job, which
- 42:29Speaker 1: isn't it didn't like any severance, got poo poo the
- 42:32Speaker 1: other night. We haven't about this, wait, I got shot down.
- 42:36Speaker 1: I might check it out though. Oh it's sci fi. Um,
- 42:40Speaker 1: it's kind of. I don't know if you would call
- 42:42Speaker 1: it sci fi. Thanks for that heads up there, Mike.
- 42:48Speaker 1: You wouldn't like it, No, I agree. I don't take
- 42:51Speaker 1: that as a shot. By the way, yeah, you wouldn't like.
- 42:53Speaker 1: It's not my thing. He knows what he likes and
- 42:55Speaker 1: he doesn't like it, right, much like someone who likes
- 42:58Speaker 1: well done steak. I don't criticize as people who like
- 43:00Speaker 1: like Matt Morrell, who like the sci fi and the
- 43:04Speaker 1: comic book. That's just not my thing. Okay, to each
- 43:09Speaker 1: his own. Um. I did want to bring up the
- 43:12Speaker 1: We were talking about the the third sequel being better
- 43:16Speaker 1: than the second sequel, you know, or whatever is that,
- 43:19Speaker 1: or the sequel being better than the original or whatever, um,
- 43:23Speaker 1: that kind of stuff, and someone wrote in a James
- 43:26Speaker 1: Bond thing, and I don't think that claws, yeah, because
- 43:30Speaker 1: they kind of start over each they're not sequels, right,
- 43:33Speaker 1: they're not sequels, tonnage too many different James Bonds. What's
- 43:37Speaker 1: the second like, yeah, unless you went by guy, each
- 43:39Speaker 1: is his own. Yeah, that's the way I look at it.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I'm not a huge James Bond right either, But they're
- 43:48Speaker 1: not necessarily sequels. No, no, that you're right, you'd have
- 43:51Speaker 1: to do it by James Bond. So like the second
- 43:53Speaker 1: Daniel Craig movie versus the third, but he had it
- 43:56Speaker 1: he went back to the very beginning, and the third
- 43:58Speaker 1: I forget which ones they were now, but the third
- 44:00Speaker 1: one was better than the second one, in which I
- 44:03Speaker 1: have no doubt that he's right. I just I'm not,
- 44:05Speaker 1: like I said, I'm not up on James Bond, but
- 44:08Speaker 1: I don't look at that like Jaws two in Jaws three. Right.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It's also how do you how do you compare a
- 44:13Speaker 1: James Bond movie from the sixties to like a Daniel
- 44:16Speaker 1: Craig James Bond today? I mean where they're not even now?
- 44:19Speaker 1: Tell me you guys, you guys watch the James Bond franchise.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Fred does Fred? Yes? Okay, so obviously James Bond is
- 44:26Speaker 1: in every one of them. Who else is, well, my
- 44:31Speaker 1: Moneypenny is what's her name? Yeah? Um, the head guy.
- 44:36Speaker 1: But it's not always the same actor, but the character
- 44:39Speaker 1: so they do have the same characters. So I guess
- 44:42Speaker 1: you could make an argument, yeah, on behalf of it,
- 44:45Speaker 1: but nothing on the original affected the second one. Yeah that,
- 44:51Speaker 1: although I have to say I kind of thought that,
- 44:54Speaker 1: like James Bond and maybe the head of whatever, the
- 44:58Speaker 1: the organization spect Okay, yeah, so in this I figured
- 45:01Speaker 1: those were the only guys in this In this last Bond.
- 45:04Speaker 1: There is a lot of references to old Bonds in
- 45:06Speaker 1: this last one. Okay, so maybe I can give there's
- 45:11Speaker 1: a little latitude. I think Eric's a big we can
- 45:13Speaker 1: allow James Bond guy, Yes, Eric, um, Fred and Mark
- 45:17Speaker 1: Capello all or big James Bond. Uh, Mike and Puerto Rico.
- 45:21Speaker 1: What's up, Mike? Hey, guys, are you doing good? The
- 45:28Speaker 1: nature of the show, I call it one thing in
- 45:30Speaker 1: mind and then you guys start starting about something and
- 45:32Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I got something to say about that. Okay,
- 45:35Speaker 1: what we do? Yeah? So I got a couple of
- 45:38Speaker 1: quick thoughts, longer thought and then a game if you're interested. Okay.
- 45:43Speaker 1: James Bonds are definitely have sequels, at least the Daniel
- 45:46Speaker 1: Craig one. All right, Italians from Casino Royale to Quantum
- 45:52Speaker 1: of solist to Skyfall, which is actually the better. So
- 45:55Speaker 1: that's the case where the third one is probably better
- 45:57Speaker 1: than all of the other ones. And then the Arsenal
- 46:00Speaker 1: which was crap, which actually tied all of the movies together.
- 46:03Speaker 1: So that's just one thing. And you mentioned to that severance, Um,
- 46:09Speaker 1: it's sci fi. Well I didn't say that, do said it? Yeah?
- 46:13Speaker 1: It looked by based on the preview card, maybe a
- 46:16Speaker 1: little sci fi. And but you saw it, right, I did,
- 46:20Speaker 1: I saw it. Yeah. I think there's a little science fiction.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I think there's a little science fiction in there, but
- 46:26Speaker 1: I wouldn't consider it a sci fi movie. I AMDB
- 46:29Speaker 1: has it listed as sci fi? Does it? Okay? That's
- 46:32Speaker 1: kind of like me saying I've seen Southern Comfort. Yeah no,
- 46:35Speaker 1: you didn't never air. Wouldn't you qualify it better as
- 46:38Speaker 1: or don't you think of a better description? Thread would
- 46:40Speaker 1: be a psychological thriller? Yeah, I would say so. I
- 46:44Speaker 1: think I think it's got some of both. Yeah, okay, yeah,
- 46:48Speaker 1: all right, So coming coming back to my original thought,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and I know I've talked to you guys about this,
- 46:54Speaker 1: uh in the past, but you know, there is no
- 46:58Speaker 1: worse time to be a Patriots far in there around
- 47:00Speaker 1: draft time. I actually stayed away from everything on the
- 47:04Speaker 1: draft other than your guys' coverage. But man, it was
- 47:08Speaker 1: just a punch in the gut, a knee and the nuts.
- 47:11Speaker 1: It was pretty brutal this year. Yeah, Like we said,
- 47:14Speaker 1: you know, when when mel Kiper, who is very liberal
- 47:17Speaker 1: with his grades, gives you a C plus, that's you know,
- 47:21Speaker 1: you didn't do well in his eyes, you know. And
- 47:25Speaker 1: the thing for me, it's like we keep becoming I mean,
- 47:28Speaker 1: I keep looking at this again, somebody that has no
- 47:29Speaker 1: ties to Boston. I just adopted the team because I
- 47:32Speaker 1: like Brady, I like the uniforms. And then I'm sorry
- 47:34Speaker 1: Bledsoe originally Den Brady, Den Belichick still on and so forth.
- 47:38Speaker 1: But it's like it's more and more resented. Why am
- 47:41Speaker 1: I following this team? You know, I like to play,
- 47:44Speaker 1: I like the way they do things. But you the
- 47:47Speaker 1: first conferences are boring, like you really can't get behind Belichick.
- 47:51Speaker 1: You something that everybody was just excited for, which is
- 47:54Speaker 1: a draft, and then you watch in and it's just
- 47:55Speaker 1: a disappointment. It's a punching the gut, a need of
- 47:58Speaker 1: the nuts compe situation. But and then I started thinking

- 48:40Speaker 1: guy's top potential. Okay, he got he's got the most.
- 48:43Speaker 1: He mentioned the most actual draft. He's the Patriots of
- 48:45Speaker 1: any of us. I think he had Thornton and one.
- 48:48Speaker 1: I think Marcus Jones. I think those were his two

- 1:00:04Speaker 1: He always says they should have ran the ball. Yeah,

- 1:00:20Speaker 1: of Mike? Oh no, that's a good question. By maybe
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I'm fine. Well, you were upset when I called you, Mike,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: and I was just turn off. I'm turn off sometimes
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: sexual assault. Sometimes somebody call me, you know, maybe if
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: she wants to do another version with Deuce's back. Yeah, well,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: let's see how the season goes and uh, you know,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: make a banger. But that was that was the head
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: of the season last year. Yeah, it gets in everybody's head.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Uh five five pats, five hundred, it's the eighth ticket.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Hot line phones are stacked up. Ben's in Pittsfield. What's up? Ben?
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Oh guys, how you doing. I got a couple of
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: things about two things I wanted to run by a guys.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: First off, unfortunately my guy Zion taken before twenty one.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: But if he was there, like at twenty one, Zion Johnson,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: do you think we would have taken him to the possibility?
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I do, Yeah, he was, you know besides, like the
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: guys who were going top ten, no doubt right, Like
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: he was one of the best linemen and oh linemen
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: in the draft, and it's like, you know, when he's mocked,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: he was one of the best guards. It's kind of tough,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: but yeah, I would have loved you know. I feel
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: like if we had gotten him at twenty one, um,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: like all the a lot more of the talk about
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: oh the Patriots can draft this that because he's one
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: of those guys who was actually mocked in the first
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: round and like on those boards. But people would have
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: still been upset about taking a guard. Some people would
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: have questioned the guard, but I wouldn't have questioned the
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: value right right. I would have probably had the same
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: reaction and just do we have to take your guard
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: right now? I would have had the same gu could
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: have had Cold Strange in the second round, right, but
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: you could. But to Ben's h point, you could have
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: had Zion j right, he would not have been a
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: bailed now he was the first round talent. Yep. So
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: my second point, I wanted to run by you guys,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: And I was talking about this with some guy I
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: was talking to over the weekend. But so right now,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: like you guys know the bubble with the wide receivers,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: like they're getting paid way too much money, and then
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: you got quarterbacks like I mean, Derek Carr just got
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: paid forty million dollars. I don't know why he's Like,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: I know he's good, but I don't know if he's
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: forty million years. But to my point, to my point though,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: is that like obviously it kind of sucks because we
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: can't afford any of the you know, the star power.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Why at some point, like some of these teams who
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: are paying these players like wicked amounts of money, m
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: like it's gonna catch up with them. I mean, like
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: think about Buffalo obviously, Like I'll can see Buffalo is
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: a much better team than the Patriots right now. But
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: you know they just paid Sefon Digs what forty million dollars?
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Not sorry, like forty years sorry, I'm sorry, twenty five
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: million dollars a year? Like what happened? If he cares DCL? Like,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: you know, they don't have money to go get it
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: somewhere new or do anything like that because there's tone
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: a ton of money into him. Like let me, let
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: me ask you this. I'm fred I'm gonna spare you.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Here we go, I'm gonna spare it. I'm not going
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: to do it. But if Stefan Diggs was making five
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: million a year any towards ACL, what were the Bills
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: going to do? Well? My point being is if they
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: if they're paying him five million dollars a year, right,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: that means they probably have a little more money to
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: get who they could push for other players? Right who?
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: You know that money is coming away from, like maybe
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: another receiver instead of you know, one incredible receiver. They
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: have two very good receivers and then if one of
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: them gets hurt. They do have very good receivers. Yeah,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I'm just using them as an example because I know no.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: But my point is it's never a bad idea to
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: pay the great players big money. Like you run a
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: risk of your your best players getting hurt. Everybody has
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: that risk. I don't think it like hurts less if
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: your best player gets hurt and he's making ten million
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: as opposed to twenty million, like you have to now
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: replay with someone who's not on your roster and there's
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: no one available of that caliber. Like when Tom Brady
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: got hurt No. Eight, it wasn't better for the Patriots
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: because he wasn't making as much as Peyton Manning. They
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: didn't have anybody to replace him. That hurt, right, Yeah,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I just think to the point of is this bubble
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: gonna burst or is it going to continue to be?
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I mean, I think we've accepted with quarterbacks that you
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: gotta pay because the salary cap is only going up.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: With Derek Carr, well, guys, come up, you got to
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: pay him. That that's what the going rate is for
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: starting quarterbacks. You don't really have a choice. It's not
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: as much about well he's worth that it's kind of
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: but I do wonder because there's going to be teams
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: that have bent over backwards to bring in an awesome
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: receiver this year that are gonna that aren't going to
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: have success that you know, it's just not gonna work
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: for whatever reason. Absolutely, yeah, that's all right. There's there's
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: some teams that, you know, like Buffalo, they have a
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: great foundation. I'm not like, I won't argue that they
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: you know, they are a team that can probably afford
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and it's a kind of a good decision to go
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: fork over twenty million dollars a year. But I see
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: some of these teams who maybe aren't as financially sound
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: or don't have as good of a like a system
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: already in place, they don't have a lot of good players,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: but they're still going to go after that like single
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: receiver and think that makes the difference. And that just
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: does not seem intelligent to me. You know, well okay,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: but I mean it's sometimes it'll work, sometimes it won't.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think, you know, you got to make choices,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: and that's I think what the Patriots do and what
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: they have done is I think they prefer to spread
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: it around and that's their choice rather than being top heavy.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: And sometimes sometimes it does work. I mean, I think
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: they're also prisoners at the moment when you have a
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: team like Cincinnati, who you know, did great turn things
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: around really quick, drafted a great wide receiver who came
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: right in, you know, but then they're going to have
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: to make some decisions. So you know, are they gonna
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: play te Higgins when he comes up in a couple
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: of years. I mean, it's always fluid. I just think
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: every team you have to make, you can't have the
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: best pass rusher, the best quote, you know, the highest
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: paid pas rusher, the highest paid quarterback, the highest paid
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: wide receiver. You know, you have something has to give somewhere. Um,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: but you know it. It was a crazy offseason and
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I think, you know, I don't know, I said bubble burst.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I mean maybe that's too extreme, but I think that
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: it will regress a little bit more towards the mean.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: I think his teams, you know, some teams realize, like
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: you know, maybe just going out and over extending ourselves
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: for one receiver isn't going to people. There's going to
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: continue to be it won't burst. Salaries don't go the
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: other way. Kirk all right, guys, is the poster child
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: for this thing. I don't think people have a problem
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: with the other ones, the AJ Brown's, you know, and
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: Stefan Digs of the world. I just think Christian Kirk
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: is a guy who has been an average player who
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: got paid as a superstar. Right. The other guys are
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: really good players who got played like really good players.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: That's you know. I don't see it as a problem.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I have never been, as you know, Fred of the
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: of the mind that the Patriot's success was due to
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: their economic structure. The Patriots sess was due to their
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: coaching in their quarterback. That's it. Pretty A little interesting
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: report here from Joe kayata Um. Saint Gilette Stadium is
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: a finalist to host the future Army Navy game. Robert
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: tells me he really hopes to land the twenty twenty
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: three game Army Navy here. That would be pretty that'd
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: be pretty cool. That would be wild. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: obviously Bill Bill would love it. We know what sideline
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: he would be on. But man, that'd be great. I'd
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: take the kids. When is that game usually like right
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: after Thanksgiving, like early December? Yeah, yeah, it's usually all
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: the other teams have played so after this mone but
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: getting all the midshipmen and everybody in there school uniforms
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: and stuff, and yeah, that would be that would be huge. Um,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Jerry in New Orleans? What's up? Jerry? Who's up? Guys? Hey? Hey,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: how's all the day? Okay? Just waiting for the schedule.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, big day to day for that. UM.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I got two things for you all. Um, what do
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: y'all think if we flirted with the idea of putting
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: either Marcus Jones or somebody else that we've drafted in
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: the side, if Nikkil Harry don't work out for us?
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Wait say that? Say that again? Um, what do y'all
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: think the chances could be if we put in like
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: Marcus Jones into like the slop position, if Nikil Harry
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: don't work out for it? I just said, you know,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: just as a plug and play. I don't I don't
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: see it. I mean, I think he's a going to
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: be a plus returner. I mean I have hopes of that,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: but I think based on what they've done, I think
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: they got a lot of guys. I don't really have much,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: you know, but Jerry, I'm gonna go to you, Mike,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: because I know you've done more than Marcus Jones' research.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: I've I've looked at him and tell me if I'm wrong,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: as a guy who is a defensive back who they've
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: occasionally found ways to incorporate into the offense um you know,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: in in you know, sort of niche kind of play, yes,
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Dean Sanders. Sure, is there a chance that they look
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: at it differently and they'd look at him as an
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: offensive player? I mean perhaps, I don't think so. I
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: don't not by I don't think he's done. I just
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: think he was a dynamic athlete at Houston, and you
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: know those are probably a little bit more hard harder
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: to find there at that level. But I don't know.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's more I mean, like your guy,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: how many touchdowns did Pierre Strong throw? You know, like itchdowns?
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: So you know there's maybe there's something there too. Or
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: the undrafted guy that I mentioned, Brendan Schooler who played
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: receiver and safety. There's a lot of versatility. I just
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: I think for me, Marcus Jones looks like a defensive
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: back and a really good returner, and you know, maybe
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: if you get into a pinch and you don't have
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: that kind of quick, open guy. But I mean i'd
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: rather get a sense of Agalore in there, or I
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: mean I don't think Harry's in the plans at all.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: I mean I have trouble even like go soon. Well,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: that's where I kind of lost him, where he said,
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: if Harry doesn't work out, it hasn't worked out, it
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: hasn't worked out. It's it's looked, it's looked the same.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: I don't you know you get to year four next week?
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I mean Harry, I mean even like Harry didn't work
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: and a couple of shows ago when we were going
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: down the wide receiver depth to see where Thornton might
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: fit in, we didn't even mention Harry. Right, no, no,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: And I find that problem when I'm like writing about
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: the projections, you know, the team and how it's it's
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: hard to like, well they return there, they're tough. Four guys.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I'm like, I guess five if you want to count Harry.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: But I just I have no no expectation for I
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: mean best, right, Fred's right at best, he's six. Yeah,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: And you could make an argument for Christian Wilkerson, who
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: did as much as Harry did last year. That's true
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: and less chances, right, I mean, people are probably higher
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: on him than. I mean, people were up in arms
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: one of those late games that Harry was active and
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Wilkerson wasn't remember that people were up in arms about that. Yeah, right,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: and you know it was like, well they need the blocker.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: What he caught the hed the game against Jacksonville, Right,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: that was what Wilkerson came in, didn't He had like
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: a couple of cakes. Yes, my cakes, we got our guy.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Uh Spees and friends. No, spe Eric Colin is so
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: clean as the proctologist. Gave him his number, Fred, that's gold.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: What are you doing? When I heard that one, I
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: was like, Okay, I gotta call him today. Uh actually
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: picked him up from what Paul is talking about how
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: it's not the economic structure, it's a coach from the
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: quarterbacks and the Patriot. I mean, there's no doubt. But
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: at the same time, you know, Brady's helped things along,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I know, not taking salary cuts. You know, he helpfully
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: reached early early in the first the first iteration of
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: the dynasty, the salary cap was much more restrictive and
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: it was much more important to have your your salaries
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: spread out. Since the I don't know six seven, eight,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: eight nine, it hasn't been like that anymore. And now
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: it's you look at the projections, um, you know, and
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I do I follow Miguel on this stuff, and he's like,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: he's telling you what the projections are going forward. They're
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: astronomical and these numbers then they'll never there was a pandemic.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: And you know that was a pause right right, it
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: actually went down, that's what But that's what it takes, right,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: it's a worldwide pandemic. Yeah, that's kind of redundant. But whatever. Um,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: the salaries, like you're not going to have the next
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: guy that comes out like go back to what they
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: were like because Christian Kirk got overpaid. Like maybe the
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: next Christian Kirk won't get that money, but the next
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Stefon digs Will and Deebo Samuel and those in a J. Brown,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: those guys when you're really, Terry mclaurin's not taken less
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: than those guys when his contract gets done. Those guys
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: have been productive players. And the part of it that
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I just disagree with is if Buffalo's players don't play
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: well and they don't live up to expectations, it's not
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: going to be because their salary cap structure is not
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: up to your standards, not what you think they should be.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: It's gonna be because they don't play well or they
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: get injured and they you know whatever. They have plenty
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: of depth at receiver, right, I mean, Gabriel Davis is
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: a good young receiver. Who's the slot guy that they
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: it was at Robert Woods they sign No, who's the
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: slot guy they signed up? I think that's Tennessee Robert Woods,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Bobby Trees. They signed somebody to replace Colby Oh, Jamison Crowder.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Jamison Crowder. They they signed to replace Cole Beasley. Yeah,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: they drafted our guy. They have plenty of depth at receiver.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Like if if Diggs goes down, that hurts. He's a
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: really good players. Tallematters more. You know, it's plenty. Did
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: you stand this, Paul? I was, I don't know, like
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: six months ago. I wasted some time looking back into
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: the history of the cash and the cap hit for
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: for for for super Bowl winning quarterbacks. I mean, you
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: go back all the way to like the early nineties.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: The super Bowl winning quarterback. You know, he he's a
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Hall of Famer who took slightly less than quote unquote
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: his market value and turns the cash or Calf like
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: he's instead of being in the top one through five
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: on either those metrics, he's more like six to ten.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: But maybe I'm wondering now going forward with what you're saying,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: maybe that matters less. Maybe you're gonna you know, like
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: you're saying, like, like what was Matthew Stafford's yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: yeah that for perfect example, he's one of the highest
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: paid quarterbacks in the league. Yeah uh well, uh I, hey, Fred,
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: I needed to pass you, uh or actually, all you guys,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: like what you think about the adage that sometimes teams
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: need to lose in order to wake up or like
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: put them put them in a place in like a
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: motivating way. And I'm thinking back to the Colts game
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: of last year where I got into it with Hearty
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: a little bit about this. But did you ever think
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: that teams need to lose in order to have a
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: wake up fall because I don't really buy that. Well,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I don't know about needing to lose, but sometimes you know,
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: it's good to face a good team and see where
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: you are and when you lose, you know, we got
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: a lot of work. I think sometimes an argument adversity
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: is better to learn. You should learn more from your losses,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: you know, but I don't know if you need to lose,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Like I hate that when a team gets in the room,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: oh they should lose a game or you know, but
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: that's kind of the foolish, like, oh, it's bad karma,
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: Like it's you know, the right you got to lose
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: one because right right. I think what Speed's talking about
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: is like, can you learn as a team and go
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: through going through the adversity of a loss, ye helps
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: you in the long run, I think it, But I
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: don't know if you need to lose. Yeah, I wouldn't
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: ever advocate saying this is the week I want to lose,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: But I do think the teams that go through ups
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: and downs, yeah, stronger for it at the end than
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: teams that just roll. No, you definitely learn more from
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: your losses. But I think it's a myth too of
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: of that the team that wins the Super Bowl was
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: automatically just the best team from Thanksgiving on, you know,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: you know, the Giants in the old day proved that
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: of you know, it's it's up. You can be up
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: and down and all of a sudden it just kind
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: of clicks. For those those three games the eighteen Patriots yep,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: stumbled to the finish line and then played their best
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: football in the playoffs. Yeah, which was like, you know, again,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: like three specific games that were all kind of different
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: and they won kind of three different ways. Um, but yeah,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I mean I just prefer to get those learning experiences
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: up front of the season and not have them at
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: the end of like, oh, we really need a week
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: seventeen loss to cost us home field advantage, you know. Like,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: but I think it's just what you tell yourself because
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: you come off a loss and you have to have
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: some kind of like we need you know what it
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: ends up being. Whatever happens, you say, oh, well that
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: was why we did it, you know, like you could
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: make the argument like for you what you just brought up.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Then when they lost to Ryan Fitzpatrick, right, oh we
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: lost the buy that was the galvanizing force. Well, no,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: they lost the next week in the playoffs too. Yeah,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: it was a harbinger of what team they really were. Like,
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: this isn't a wake up call, this is the adversity
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: didn't help them, you know, right. And I think that's
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: another part of the myth too of just like you
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: lose a game and that's gonna like bring your locker
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: room together, and you're gonna be like not always, and
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: sometimes it just shows you that you're not very good
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: of a team and unless you play perfectly, you're not
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: gonna win the most important games of the season, which
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: is I think what we've seen the last few years. Well,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: look at the Celtics game last night. I mean, it's
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: a game they should have won, right they blew it.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Now they lost a game. Is that going to help
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: them in Milwaukee? I don't think so, But they could win.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: I think that. I think there's still the better team,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you know, But I don't know if by losing that
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: game it helped them, you know well, and to tie it.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Then over to the Bruins, who have been giving up
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: late goals all season long, in the final minutes of
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: periods in like at a certain time point, you'd be like, WHOA,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: you've done this enough. Aren't you gonna learn from this?
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: And you're gonna put this to bet? No, this is
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: just the kind of team you wanted to lose his
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: focus down the stretch. That's what it is. I think
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: the I mean, not to turn this into the Celtics,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: they could definitely win two and win the series. Oh yeah,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: I don't really understand the whole Like, I still think
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: they're the better team. Thing I do. They've played five games,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: the other team has had a double digit lead in
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: the fourth quarter of three of them. Yeah, I don't
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: know why we think we're better. I think the teams.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I think the Celtics have better. Okay, yeah, all around,
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: with all around team. Now with Middleton back, maybe, Oh,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: I don't even think this series would still be going
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: off Middleton. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. If he was back,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: would be a different story. Rick nifty nifty snifty, Well
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: that too. Hey, what's up? What's up? Hey? I guess
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: I guess I had. I had a few things on
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: the schedule. I just saw that. I don't know if
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: you guys can affirment that the Patriots are playing on
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Thanksgiving against the Viking. We heard that too. I don't know.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: We do not get the schedule until eight o'clock purposely. Yeah,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: we're not allowed Monday night football game against the Band seven. Yeah,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, can I not.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I'm not trying to be evasive with you. I don't know.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: Can neither confirm nor deny. Okay, okay, yeah, that's that's
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: that's all. I'm just disavising. So this is what happens.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: I think people think that we're being dishonest with them. Thanks.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, i'd like to know. I've seen
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: the same stuff on Twitter that everybody else has. I
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: don't know if any of it's accurate. Todd to North Carolina,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Hey Todd, Hey, guys, how are you doing good? Check
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: with me about ten o'clock tomorrow morning. Even though I
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: kind of miss Eric's monologue in the background with his
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: little snarky comments as Deuce is talking, that usually happens.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Fuck you, hey, that was aggressive. I like that. Okay,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: So my question is what are you guys expecting from
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: this year with respect to the team. Are you expecting
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: playoff bound and some big leaps here or there, or
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: what are you looking for for a progression. That's kind
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: of what I would like to hear, because, well, me,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: what I want to see them do is simply watch
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Mac progress, get our defense a little bit organized, and
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: I'm I would be happy even with a five hundred
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: season as long as I can see them making progress
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: on both sides of the ball. I'll take your answer
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: off there. Thanks guys. Okay, Yeah, I mean I think
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: realistically and optimistically, it's a similar season as it was
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: last year of a team that you know, they're not.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I mean, there was a brief period of time when
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: somebody might have said that they were the top team
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: in the AFC, but you know, I think the reality
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: of it was they were a playoff bubble team. And
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: I think this year, realistically, looking at where the league
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: is and that they're a playoff bubble team, I'd love
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: to just be surprised because I think it's easy to
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: look at the schedule and the talent of the teams
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: that they're playing, and you know, it's hard to argue
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: with people who are like they're the thirteenth or twelfth
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: or thirteenth best team in the AFC. Well, it's hard
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: to argue against that right now. But I'd just like
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: to be surprised that it comes together in a way
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: that is better than you know, people are anticipating, which
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: I think people aren't. You know, four win season is
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: on the table for a lot of people, and I
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: haven't heard any of that, Oh four yeah, you're gonna
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: win more than Listen. My thing is if I don't
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: hear another team say that Patriots are easy to defend, right,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: and they can be competitive with Buffalo again, get back
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: to there, then I think they'll be okay this year. Well,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I would say that what Todd said, the mac Jones
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: is the obvious one and the second one that's a
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: little less obvious that he talked about. I would like
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: to see the defense, like the age of the roster
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: has not gotten younger yet. Now that might be the
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: case once the cuts get made, maybe some of these
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: veterans go um. I would like to see the defense
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: be younger. So I don't really care what that translates to.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: For a record, If Perkins and Ouchay and you know,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: you know, maybe some of those guys extra dress playing
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: and maybe you're you're just as bad as you were
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: last year. Defensively, I'd rather fail defensively with young guys
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: than veterans. I know that doesn't make a lot of
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: sense to a lot of people, and I'm not expecting
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: it too, but I would rather have Hope fail the
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: young guys. Right. It's I don't like, I don't need
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: it to be a five hundred team. I don't think
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: they'll be nine and eight team. I don't think they're
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: gonna win that many games, but I don't really care
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: as long as those two things happen. Mac Jones gets
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: better and they get younger. On defense. Well, but that's
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: the thing. I'm kind of saying it a little differently,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: But if teams stop saying and thinking that the Patriots
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: are easy to defend, that means mac Jones is playing better,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: and he's learned and he's progressed, and he can be
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: they can pull out they can be a little bit
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: more complex on offense and then on defense. Like I
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: just you know, if they're competitive with the Bills, well,
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: the Bills are one of the best teams in the league.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: If we can be competitive with them, then we've got
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: a shot. Well, then you've improve immensely, right, Yeah, Like
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I don't need that. I just need them to play.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: Like if they play exactly the same on defense against
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: Buffalo with Perkins and Uche and mcgron and anybody Anthony Jennings,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I think that's better even though it's the same result. Again,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I don't expect it to make say I can't be
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: the same result. We got to force a punt. We
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: need to force I don't like Again, I feel much
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: better about not forcing punts with young guys that are
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: going to get better. Yeah, then with Dante Hytower, Jamie Collins,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: those guys like you know, I think they need to
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: get younger. I'd love to keep, you know, get back
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: on track against Miami. You know you've lost to them
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: a bunch. Put them back in their place. Get rid
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: of like this Flores, you know, kind of era and
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: beat Tah and Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle that group
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: put you know, really firmly at least establish yourself that, hey,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: we might not be Buffalo yet, but we're better than
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: the Dolphins and the Jets. And I think after a
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: last season, you know, everybody's high on the Jets draft.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: They're coming too. Like that. Those are those are big
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: four games. This team can go any I mean, this
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: season can go any direction. It really can't. We don't
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: know and most people, I mean, I feel like the
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: general tenor is that people are expecting bad like you know,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: That's what I feel like overall, people are not you know,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: I just took a like the four I haven't heard that,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: but I don't think most people think they're a playoff team.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I think that's accurate from from Mike. But even if
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: it's you know, six bad, I mean, you know, I
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: think that's what people generally across the NFL. They had
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: a bad draft. They you know, the Jets had a
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: great one. The Bills are they can't force the Bills
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: to punt. Miami beat them whatever it is to four
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: out of the last five times. Like you know, it's
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: it's easy to say that. I think that the hard
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: part is having a positive feeling, feeling like they're going
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: to be back where they were last year, nipping on
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: the heels of the Bills in the top team. What's
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: more likely double digits wins or double digit losses? M
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I mean probably double digit losses at this point, just
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: riding the wave. I mean, I don't want to I
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: don't want to believe it, but more likely seven wins
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: than ten, you know, based on what it is. I mean,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: I still believe that that they can pull this team
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: together and you know, could potentially win double digit games.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: But right now, if you're asking me in May, waiting
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: for the schedule, Yeah, Fidel's in Florida. Hey Fidel, Hey guys,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: how are you good? So I was looking to the
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: podcast last week the other day, and one caller really
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: brought us one point and and Paul, I guess some
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: kind of a great one for words of his mouth.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: But um, you guys ask the questions to call are
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: saying you wouldn't want Bill Belichick. You still want Bill
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Bench as a coach, right yeah? And there was a pause,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: and it got me to pause and saying I'm like,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: let me think about this, and you know I still
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: want him as my coach, but as a GM no,
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: I don't think so. Because if you look at the
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: way he's been drafting, like, for example, linebackers, and this
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: is where I say, Paul and I agree, he's sticking
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: to these old types of hybrid of a big, stocky,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: run stuffing linebackers when you see the league is transitioning
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: to these you know, fast play, silent sideline guys. I
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: get that you have to be like the higher end
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: of the draft to draft these kind of guys with
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: the trimmate Edmunds and um White, but there's no pastor
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: to try get them free agency or try trade for them.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: And it's we're stuck with an when Jennings who aren't
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: even seeing the fields. Um My other point was I
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: stopped caring about how we draft ever since twenty thirteen
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: because I really wanted twenty thirteen. I wanted to draft
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: Keen Allen and the Monterrey Moore. We ended up being
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: Aaron dopted Damie Collins, and we hit on Collins and
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: missed on Adoption, And if we went with my way,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: we would hit on the Allen but lost on More.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: So I think that it's a fives and I appreciate
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: you giving me an example of a guy you wanted
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: who didn't work out. So many guys are like, oh yeah,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: you know, they just listen to me. I want a
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: debo in McLaurin. In that draft, everybody, I was saying
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: it to everybody, you know, like they never gave you
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: the one, like I tell you, like Vernon Golston was
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: a guy I really liked, Bust, colossal bust. I was
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: going to break my table when we passed over to
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: Muchmore twice and Kie and I'm like, why do we
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: get Aaron Dopton and Damie Collins? He even win a
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: game in college? Yeah? Yeah. The coach thing is a
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: complex issue and I haven't gotten there. Thanks with that,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: you know, does the GM stuff bother you enough to
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: not want him to be a coach anymore. I haven't
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: gotten there. Some people have, Yeah, some people have on
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: this show years ago they have. I mean it's no,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: but do you not want him as your coach? I
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: think now is the first time. Yeah, you're hearing more
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: than a smattering of people saying right, yeah, If that's
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: what it takes to get rid of him, I want
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: to move on. Right. Let's see, Robin writes in he's
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: in the catskills. After two years of a rebuild, the
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Patriots have their QB of the future, a handful of
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: fine young players, one good draft, one draft that I
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: still can't figure out, and apparently no real need for
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: position coaches. Do you think Bill has looked around the
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: league and decided he's rebuilding for the next psycho five
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: to six years from now. It seems like he's drafting
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: middle class guys and doesn't seem to be worried too
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: much about keeping up with the other teams. Do you
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: think this is what he's doing? And if so, maybe
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: next year will be a big one, plenty of money
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: to spend in free agency and possibly better draft capital.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: With an underwhelming season on the horizon. I just don't
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: think there's some grand plan of seven years down the
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: road that oh, that's when we'll have it. Like I think,
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: I mean, I really think, and you know, we joke
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: about like, oh, he's still acting like he has Brady like.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: I just think he has a belief of how to
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: build a football team, and I think he's just continuing
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: to do it the same way. He's trying to be
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: competitive this year, just like he was trying to be
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: competitive last year. There isn't a straight line. There's no
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: assurance that you know, oh, if we do this and
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: this year, then in two years down the road, we'll
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: be able to afford this and that. Like, I think
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: they do their best to put the team together the
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: way they see fit. Each season. They try to build
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: a competitive team. They know it's not perfect. They know
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: there's going to be spots where they're probably a little
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: bit light, and that's probably inevitable. But I don't know,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: he doesn't have all this time left to continue coaching
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: for twenty more years. Like there has to be a
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: little bit of you know, we gotta get going here
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: if you want to continue to get back into the
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: playoffs to make noise in the playoffs to be a contender. Like,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: but I just think that they have their philosophy and
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: they're sticking with it, and that's how they're going to
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: go down a couple people. I I do. I want
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: to think about it. I didn't ask you on purpose.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: I do. I do. I do. I mean, I think, Look,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: I think you can pick individual places where oh, that
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: was a mistake, but I think that you could do
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: that with anybody you know. Um, But I look at
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: my heart of heart, I think football is much bigger
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: than your two or three best players. I think I
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: have my doubts. I do, but I think I find
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: out this year. I think we'll find out a lot
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: of people will find out this year. I think we'll
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: find out when it's weird. I like, I just have
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: my doubts that the the way that they put together
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: their team over the twenty years is why they won.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I have my doubts on that. I think it's all Brady.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: I think it was in Belichick. I'm not dismissing Bill.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: Like That's why, like I started out, I said, I
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: haven't gotten there, you know with that that I want
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: to get rid of Bill. I think Bill's exception. I
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: don't know as a coach, I really do. I I
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: don't think just anybody would have won six titles with Brady. Yeah,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: and I hear that they wouldn't have had the success
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: without the two let me just say that, but but
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: I feel like, but but I just think that you
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: look back at those games and so many plays are
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: made by other guys, you know, and you had to
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: have guys that like in crunch time, you know, had
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: the sand to make those plays. And I don't think
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: it was just pure luck that other guys. God who
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: said it was pure like titles? But I mean, like,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: you know, plays that Troy Brown made. Troy Brown was
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: a great player, okay, but it wasn't just Belichick and Brady.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: As my point, but I'm not try Brown was never
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: a high priced player. No, well he was not really
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: he got that was like the first feature I wrote
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: for this. But you've got a huge contract for a time, Yeah,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: I mean it would be like you'd laugh at two
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: million a year. You'd laugh at West Welker's contract. Now
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: they paid through the nose for him. It was five
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: years and seventeen million. You'd laugh at that now. But
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: that's at the time, that was a big deal. You know,
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: I just think there were just too many other guys
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: that made plays that. Yet you have to have depth
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: in football, you know, you have to. But my point
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: isn't that it was just Bill and Tom. They had
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: other great players. My point is it wasn't because they
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: didn't pay this guy because they thought it was important
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: to get the fortieth guy on the roster who just
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: played specialty. You're not You're not buying a strong middle class, No,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: I'm not. I think that they had really good players
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: in an exceptional quarterback that was generational, that allowed the coach,
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: who's also generational, I think, to succeed. I guess the
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: Willie mcguinnis and Teddy Bruskies and the Tie Laws and
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: the Mike Rabels and the Troy Browns, they all were
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: part of it. But there was a lot of other
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: guys that they think were just as big that I don't.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: That's all. Yeah, it doesn't mean like I think you
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: could have had the same exact roster with a different
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: coach or a different quarterback and not want anywhere near
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: as much. Oh not anywhere. That's true. So that's all
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like it's a it's a it's a subjective thing.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: It's like it's hard to quantify, like why why did
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: they win? Like it's impossible to sit there and identify
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: A B and C. Fred's right, there's like a million
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: plays that I can think of that were made by
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: guys not named Brady. You know, I don't know how
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: much of that you know was because Bill and you
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: don't niled up the right thing to put a guy
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: in the right spot. And you don't know if somebody
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: else wouldn't have made it. You know, it's you can't write,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: you can't prove it. You can't prove it, just like
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I can't prove that if they had, like personally might
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: the example I use all the time, And I got
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Mike with this a couple of weeks ago. Like the
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: one time that they said, I'm going to do everything
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: I can't to make my team as great as it
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: can possibly be. For this one year was ZH seven
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: and they came thirty seconds away from going undefeated. Yeah,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I think that was the one time where they married
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: the greatness of Bill and Tom with greatness and every
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: every spot around him. You say, you can't have the
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: best wide receiver the best edge rusher, the best that
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: team did. That team did and they paid big for
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: it and it worked and it worked. That Like that's
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: always my argument, Like what would Bill be like if
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: he actually had all the horses and didn't just have
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: to rely on scheme in his imagination to get it
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: all done. Yeah, it's just it's so hard to unpack it.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: Twenty years, so many games, and that's what's like, you know,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: you can pick a game for any argument that you
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: have of well, you know, it's I just I guess
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: that's what I struggle with of. But you know, I
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: look at like I remember that Kansas City AFC Championship
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: game in Kansas City. One of the biggest plays in
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: the game, Like you know, it was hinging as to
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: take one of Andy's work was that Chris Hogan catch,
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: that amazing catch that he had that may not have
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: been the cash but you know that, but like you know,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: like he wasn't that good a receiver, but he made
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: that play and so you don't know, like how many
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: other not so good receivers who have been on the
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Patriots that play that was a big catch. There was
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: no doubt about it. But it's not like they lose
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: the game if he doesn't make the catch. Well there's
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: another play and the next play. Yeah, I know, but
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: it was it was a great play. You know, it's
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: a great catch and he did catch it. That went
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: to replay. He caught it. I know. Yeah, it's just
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: like guys like that. It's like right, you know, and
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: you can go through any and and even like the
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: uh you know, the people that love to people like
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: to make fun of or you know, like even those
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: guys have made some plays here and there. You know,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: like every team has players like Gabe Davis in that
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: playoff game against Kansas City for Buffalo, it wasn't Stefan Diggs.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: It was Gabe Davis with two hundred and whatever, right,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Like is he he's not the star? He was like
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: a low round draft pick. It's like a second year
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: and he was out of his mind that day, right, Like,
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: I mean, every team has role players. I'm not suggesting
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: that it's just two guys that make plays. Like I
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: just think if if you can sit here and tell
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: me they would have won six titles without Brady, I
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: just I can't really have this conversation. I don't think
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: they would have won any of them either No, No,
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: But I think literally I don't think they would have
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: won a single one of those with the same team,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: and another quarter they might have won one. But I
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: think it's also a question of how do you if
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: you have a great coach, how do you maximize having
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: a great coach? You know, like, how how do you
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: use that to your advantage when you are building a team?
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: And I think, you know, to an extent, that's kind
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: of what we're talking about, that they, you know, rely
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: on Belichick to make up the difference so that they
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: don't have to you know. So I mean, I don't
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: fault them for that, but that's you know, that's kind
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: of how they do it. But at the same time,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: I don't fault them for it either because it's been
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: wildly successful and that's the bottom line. What do you win?
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: We win more than anybody else, that's the bottom line.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: But I do wonder often if they had the mentality
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: that they did No seven more often, Uh, you know,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: what would have happened David and Bethlehem. Many reports have
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: shown the teams that pay high valued players don't have
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: a sustainable model. Every team has limited resources. That is,
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: the salary cap there are a few accounting tricks that
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: expand cash flow in a given year, but with a
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: future iou teams with the highest concentration of salary run
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: greater risk of calamitous injuries, and because they are vulnerable
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: at other positions, are staffed with cheaper, lesser talent. But see,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: you can make you can make arguments against that too,
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: and you would have more injuries than them, you know,
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: like they overcame them, like teams that pay high valued players.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I mean, if it wasn't for Tom Brady, the Indianapolis
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: Colts would have won more Super Bowls. And they had
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: the highest player in the league and Peyton Manning and
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: they were paying other guys and by the way, like
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: they ended up eating you eventually anyway. Yeah, and they
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: had Tom bra that that game was we should have
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: which one? Oh six? They had Rodney Harrison? I mean,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: oh six? Okay, what about the others? When when Peyton
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: Manning be what other ones? The two in Denver? Oh
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: that one of which he couldn't even play anymore? They
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: don't count. Oh okay, I wasn't no games in Denver.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: I wasn't aware that those don't count. Exhibition Why was
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: that game in Denver, because you lost in Denver, and
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: what else did you lose? To go down now, Chris
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Harper harpers Harper's folly. No, Harper's muffs muff not fall
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: Harper's muff. Well, isn't because it's Harper's ferry. Right, have
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: Harper's folly. I didn't make it. Its Harper's ferry. But no,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: it's Harper's muff. I know Harper's muffs. Dirlier. We like muff.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: You have kicking off in overtime against the Jets. You
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: have the mortar kick up fourteen against the Eagles, right,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: and the corpse of Stephen Jackson right the Miami game.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: You could have just won one of those and hosted
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: that as championship. They didn't want to, like, they didn't
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: want a host. Um. We thought it was our advantage
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: to play there. Rob writes, Tom couldn't overcome the fact
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: that Stephen Jackson ran the ball twenty five straight plays.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: Even Tom's greatness couldn't do anything about it. Robert and
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: Southern California. I hope Eric Colin will be okay after
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: years of steam broccoli in uh kale chips. Oh relax, yeah,
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: I heard like I heard like people who are vegetarians,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: like are more stinky in the bathroom. Yeah, I find
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: that hard to believe. Is that true? Well, beans, you know? Yeah,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: being being that makes you fart, right, Yeah, I didn't
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: know that was a thing, not the beans. Beans think. Yeah,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: I didn't know that was a thing. I don't know.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: I've never had a problem with. Last week, Paully said
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: that CJ. Paully said that c. J. Spiller was a
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: good player in the context of his draft value propos
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: I didn't say that. I said he was a good
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: player period. He was wrong yet again. He has a
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: memory about Patriots games like a steel trap, but his
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: perception of players on other teams is crap. CJ. Spiller
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: was a good player. I stand by that, he says.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Spiller's career stats ninth overall in two thousand ten to
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: play the five seasons, played eight total one one thousand
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: rushing season. Third year, only played sixteen games, twice average
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: more than four yards to carry just three seasons. Scored
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: twenty one total rushing in reception touchdowns scored seventy five percent,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: or fourteen of his twenty one total career touchdowns in
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: two seasons scored seven total touchdowns in other six seasons,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: scored more than two total touchdowns just twice, had more
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: than one hundred and fifty touches twice, just ten games.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: All right, he goes on and CJ. Spiller, I didn't
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: really remember him. It wasn't he receiving bang of them? Yeah? CJ.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: Spiller was a good player. Did I say he deserved
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: to be drafted in the top ten? No, I didn't
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: say that. All I say was he was a good player.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: He was. He says he wasn't. He wasn't that good,
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: And that's his opinion. He's in tit to it. It's
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: not like you. I don't tell other people what to
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: think like you do. Well done, Steak, don't do it.
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: There's certain things. There's just certain things. May I want
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: to Italian sandwich? Right? Sam in Kentucky, I like this too.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Played sixteen games just twice, played fourteen ones, fifteen once
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: thirteen ones. Yeah, nice selective cherry picking. I'm proud of
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: you because that's exactly how Paul would have played this.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: Sam says, thanks for giving us a podcast. That's third
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: one season, another one, nine thirty three. I'll try that again.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Thanks for giving us the podcast that's third on the
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: charts but first in our hearts Quick Football one on
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: one question with the question at O line this year,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: I've always wondered what type of skill set moves go
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: into each position and what makes someone a good guard
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: or center or tackle. For example, why would someone be
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: a good left tackle but not a good right tackle. Well,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: it's an interesting question. I mean, I think some of
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: it's relayed to the traditional you know, you're pass protector
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: on the left side and more of a running you know,
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: more you're running offensive lineman on the right side. But
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: I think that's kind of changed over the years as
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: defense has become more valuable or more balanced. But I
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: would say generally, you know, your left tackle is your
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: most athletic. He's got to have some link. He's got
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: to have some kind of quickness to get outside deal
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: with edge rushers. Same thing with the left guard. I mean,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: inside you don't have to move as much, so guards
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: can be a little bit less athletic. Center's got to
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: be smart, quick, you know, understand leverage, get Usually they
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: make the calls on the line. It's kind of the
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: deuced general overview of that's in line play which I
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: was a terrible offensive lineman in high school, so take
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: it with a great insault. Can I ask you a
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: question when I was fourteen, if you had a guy
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: that played nine years and the average four point eight
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: yards of carry for his career, would you say that
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: was okay? Yeah, okay, I didn't say star Okay, that
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: wasn't CJ. Spiller? Well, no, no no, that was CJ. Spiller
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: who emailer told us only average four yards of carry
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: once in his carip but he averaged four point eight
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: for his entire career. We rounded nine years. Pretty good,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: that's almost that's all. Yeah, you could say it, Deuce.
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: You could say it fun with math it's almost five
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: yards of carry math u s. I didn't say he
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: was like the second coming of Alvin Kamara. Okay, I
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: hit the wrong button on Stephen Missouri. He was a
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: call back. He was a good player. Burton Burton Island
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: writes in I'm curious about Deuce's strangely specific speech impediment
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: when it comes to Chandler Chandler Jones, does this supply
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: with other words? For example, does chair becomes share? Might
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Deuce be apt to order up a cheeseburger? That's good.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: I don't. I am working on it, you know, trying
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: to talk to somebody, get that under control. I always
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: catch it too late, though, but it's kind of become fun.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: So sometimes what I'm saying, what way what? Um? Jack
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: writes in from Annaba. When I had my kolonoskib, my
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: gastro winterrologist told me he found a polyp that looked
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: like Phyllis Diller. I said, doctor, you're crazy. It was
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: Agnes moorehead. But there you go. I don't know. Act
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: this more Andra from be Witched of course? Really? Yeah, Oh,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Samantha's mother and why does she look more like a
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: polyp than Philistilla? I never seen a polyp? H I
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: don't know, tough one. Um let's see lots of emails,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: lots of you didn't watch? I did? She was that
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: was the mother? Yeah, now excuse me now that you
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: say that, Now that you say that, I know that
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: I didn't watch. It's another example of no value in
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: it whatsoever. Don't know why I was thinking though, like
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: if you could cast yourself, like in real life, as
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: a character that in a sitcom, like, what would be
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: the ideal character? And it's gotta be major and I
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: dream a Genie, right right, gie you got and she'll
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: do anything you want and she calls your master, and
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: she's beautiful. She looks like Barbara Eden. Yeah, she's always
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: dressed like a genie though, man, and I'm queen, you know.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: But I mean that that you can do whatever you want.
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: You can make your dress one to the producers, that right,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: show that's gotta be the one. Your wishes, her commands,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: douce that show that has to be the one. Plus
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: a single guy. Yeah, yeah, I didn't really watch Bewitch,
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: so I'm talking about my dream Magini now, kim oh,
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: I get those mixed this guy. Yeah, they were like
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: the competitors at the time, like there was Adam's Family,
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: Monsters was always yeah, there was always like an altar,
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: you know, there was always a uh oh yeah, you
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: know when you think about it. And they also both
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: had like animated opens to the show Bewitched, and that's true, yeah,
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: copycat league. Yeah, I see. I always thought they were
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: like the same, like same the same producers and whatnot.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: But no, I think they were on oper an interesting point.
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: Maybe they were competitors. Yes, I gotta get us a
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: supernatural girl um Joe and works us. I just don't.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: I can't participate. Well, you know he was in Hollywood. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: it was always in real modern TV shows. Yeah, all
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: those great shows that never saw the yet that I
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: played to him very disappointed. Paul doesn't like hot dogs.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: That snap. I looked into the future and saw a
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: very upsetting scenario. Two years from now, Tom Brady retires,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: becomes a part owner of the Miami Dolphins. He calls
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: his old buddy Bill Belichick, breaks the bank and has
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: him coach the Dolphins. It gets worse. Coach Bill goes
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: on to become the winning his coach as a Dolphin. Yeah,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: but by winning what games? A lot of games? Well,
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: he doesn't have to win a lot of games. He's
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: twenty seven games. Shop. So if he goes to Miami
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: and he happens to break the record, if he's done,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: he's seriously obviously it's just a thing. No, But I'm saying, like,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: it gets worse. I don't. I was waiting for the
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: bad part. It's my point. Oh well, he I don't know.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: I wanted to break the record as a Patriot, I guess,
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: but I wanted because he's still a great coach. So
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: if that's not part of the equation, Like if we
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: have to get rid of him because he's not winning
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: games and he happens to break that record somewhere else,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I don't care. Can you imagine you imagine that this
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: show with belichicko somewhere else and then starts beating the Patriots.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: That would be But do you know what my point is? Like,
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: I'm not trying to be an argument be an argumentative
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: like I often am. I get what you're saying. Like,
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: if he's still a great coach and he leaves on
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: his own accord and he wins like fifteen games with
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: Miami and breaks the record, Yeah that's that. That would stink.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: But if he goes to Miami because he had back
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: to back seven win seasons with the Patriots and then
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: one like another eight with Miami and broke the record,
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: who cares? Yeah? Well, I don't think that was part
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: of the equation. I think it was just he quit
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: hereable and Tom lured him over there. Do you think
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: he'll ever coach anywhere else? No? Yeah, I must be
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: in another galaxy. I don't know where is that from.
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: I haven't I don't remember that drop just in there.
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: I think that was when we asked him to appear
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: on this show. Right, Oh that could be Freddie. Yeah,
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: it's a good point by you play that again, Matt.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: You must be in another galaxy somewhere. There's no way
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: that would happen, right. That was definitely when we asked
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: him to be on the show. Just stop in like
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: a lit'll stop in phebe Uh Steves in Missouri? What's up, Steve?
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Sorry about that? I hit the wrong button. Oh, no,
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: big deal. Just I wanted to know if we could
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: maybe quit saying deals trying just getting on to be
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: a pet peeve. Of course he's trying to. Jackson tried seventeen,
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: but Mike keeps saying he's trying. He's trying. Well, he
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: has a plan. I think that. I mean, I think
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: there are a lot of people that call in here
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: that think he's just you know, making picks to help
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: out buddies, Like you know, just what is the plan?
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: Paid coach? Yeah, what's his plan? I got to be
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: full disclosed, huge, Brady Homer. I've been mad they tried
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: to get it rid of gron That's that's why you
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: don't get along with Deuce. That's right, that's I see that.
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: That's called I just it's just pet peeve. He's trying. Well,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: who's But have we been saying that I have? Apparently? Oh,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: I actually don't remember, but I often agree with years.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Yeah right, well, but but you know, look, Brady left,
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: like you know, it's not just flip it over. Get
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: another guy in here and fourteen and three. Don't I
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: don't blame their ing Brady dn't. Well, I didn't blame him.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: I'm just saying, what was your expectation when Brady left? Like,
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: what what did you want to have happen here? Well,
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: wanting or expecting is two different things. Oh so I
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: am not holding it accountable for the record, but I
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: think that there doesn't seem to be a plan as
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: to how they're putting the roster together. I think it's
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: a bunch of mismatched parts. I think there's old guys
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: in like, Oh, I don't I don't like roster. I
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: don't like the direction of the roster right now. I
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: could be honest with you, I think there are teams
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: across the board that have more talent than they do
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: and I don't think that's a good thing. We'll see
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: that they brought back High Tower and Coins and Vano.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: How old they would be then? Oh yeah, because you
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: just bring back mccordy and Slater. I mean they'd moved
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: from the second oldest team to the first oldest. I
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, you make it sound like they
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: got young. No, they didn't even get younger with their
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: draft class. Forgot. While that's silly. They're all twenty drafted
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: twenty four years old, right, But because the COVID season,
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: you got a lot of those guys in the mix,
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: so you know you're bound to draft something that's that's
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: not fair. I don't get who worked up about that?
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: Like it what in if they're amazing, you might get
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: a year less of them, Like I think they're older.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: So what I mean? I I just think they are
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: getting younger. But I just don't think that they're going
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: to rip the band aid off and put a bunch
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: of twenty five year olds out there. And again I
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: said this about a half hour ago. We'll see what
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: happens with the cuts. So far, they have not gotten younger.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: They haven't. We'll see if they do. When if they
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: cut away so some of the old would you feel
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: better if they just didn't bring mccordy back, Like, just
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: if he was not here, that would make you feel
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: better about the team with no Devin mccordy in the building,
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: I would feel better if I saw more youth in general,
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: Like instead of adding Davante Parker, it was a young
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: receiver or how do you get that kind of stuff
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: free agency though, I mean they are all going to
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: be at least at the end of a contract. What
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: do you think of Daquan Taekwon Thornton. Do you think
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: he has a chance to do it? Yeah, to be
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: good football. I'd rather have him play if you think
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: this potential there, I'd rather have him play than Davante Parker.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: But that's what I'm talking about. It doesn't make me
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: feel worse that you have a veteran who you know
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: can play on the outside to buffer how he does.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: Maybe he doesn't play. I don't know that he can
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: play on the outside, that's my point. Don't know that.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: But he's played in the end. But he has played
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: on the outside. I don't know what he's going to
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: play like in the with the Patriots, we've seen a
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: laundry list of receivers come in for the Patriots can't
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: knock him for bringing in Davante Parker. It's not don't
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: take every individual example. Oh, I think he's the reason
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: why they lose. I would feel better. This is why
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: I said defensively, I don't care if the performance is
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: the same, but I gets long as all these young
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: guys play, I can't Bentley. He doesn't do anything for me.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: You know, bringing in Jabril Peppers, you know that. Yeah,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: we'll see. I don't love it. Yeah, how many of
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: those guys do you? I think the best teams have
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: a blend of veteran experience in youth, and they don't.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: That's my point. I think they do. Yeah, I think
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: they have more than We'll see if they play. If
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: they play, then I'll say that was wrong. Okay, but
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: last year they didn't play. The youth didn't play. It
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: took like it took like eight weeks from reminder Stevenson
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: to like fully established himself as a player. That Joe's
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: pretty young. But I feel like they got rid of
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: three of their oldest linebackers and pretty old. You're still
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: getting the old drama as hard as you were beating
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: it last year. When they got rid of the old
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: I mean they got rid of like, I mean, they're
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: three and they brought back one of them one. Yeah,
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: I don't like that. I want young guys to play.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: I don't want I don't want McMillan and Bentley to play.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: I want mcgron in Perkins to play. Like, if they
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: do play, I'll say I was wrong, he's playing them.
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: I'm skeptic plays to play. I don't really care at
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: this point if you're twenty eight or twenty four like that,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, I do like because
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: you're not going to get better with twenty eight year
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: olds that are already cratered in their career twenty Yeah,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: that's the way that Lee goes. Like quarterbacks can play
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: forever in you know, there's there's random exceptions, but linebackers
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: don't generally just keep on plugging, you know, when they're
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: in the thirties. You saw that last year. Offensive linemen
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: can play longer. Yeah, there's always exceptions. I'm not telling
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: you that again. When I use the terms like always never,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: no one everyone, Like, I don't mean those terms literally.
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: There's always except there are always exceptions. You can't tell me.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: Devin mccordy was the same player last year that he
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: was five years before that. No, of but everybody loves
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: the guy. Me too. I don't think he played very
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: well last year. So what do we do we bring
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: them back? Like? What? Like what would the difference be
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: if you just said we're going to bring in Jabril
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Peppers and have another guy to go with Adrian Phillips
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: and Kyle Dugger and just let those three guys go. Well,
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: maybe that's what they end up doing, But I mean,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: I think there's more to just what's going to happen
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: in the field, Like you've got now, you've got guys
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: coming in here. So I mean, I think that that's
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: part of the reason why I m accordy And this
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: is why I said, I'm going to reserve my judgment.
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: This is my feeling now, but I'm going to reserve
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: my judgment for the cuts. Maybe James White gets moved
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: out of the picture for Pierre Strong, and that's to me,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: you might not be as good this year. I'm fine
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: with it because I know how good I can be
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: with James White, and it ain't good enough right now
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: at this stage of his career. And you think that
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: I don't know what Peter Strong could be he might
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: be better. And you're saying that even though you could
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: be better with James White this year, you'd rather not
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: be better if you could be better next year or
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: just have some have some promise. Like if you're telling
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: me I can win the Super Bowl with Devin mccordy
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: and James White, absolutely signed me up. Hey, Paul, you
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: were way wrong. These guys, ain't. They have plenty left
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: in the tank. You were wrong. I think that you
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: are middle of the road at best with the veterans.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: So if I'm not quite middle of the road with
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: the young guys, I can take that thinking in two
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: years I'll be better than middle of the road when
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: those guys are in their third year. That's my point. Now,
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: you have to be right about your talent evaluation, right.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: You have to have drafted the right players to make
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: that work. And that's see what I'm saying, right, And
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: that's why I'm worried because like the Anthony Jennings of
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: the world and the josh Uchas of the world haven't
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: done anything. And that's where the urgency to win. Now,
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: if it's there, where does that play in? You know?
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: Is it more important to be a playoff competitor, contender, right,
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: And that's my point about I'm not sure what the
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: plan is with the roster, like does that make any sense?
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: Like I don't mean no, I know a lot of
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: times I can get all snarky, I don't really mean
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: to be snarky in this one. Like I'm being legitimate
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: trying to voice, yeah, my feelings of my observations. I mean,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: I feel like they're inching towards youth, and I I mean,
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: I'm you know with you that it hasn't been a
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: tear of the band off and we're just going accept
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: it at the linebacker position where that, you know, apparently
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: seems the case. But you know, I also think a
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: bigger point too, kind of going back to what you
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: know previous colors says like, you know, do you want
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: to be like would you rather make the playoffs every year?
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Or would you rather win the Super Bowl once and
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: then you know, be out? And I think here people
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: just expect that, like we can be contenders every single year,
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: and I think a lot of other teams would be
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: okay just getting like I think Buffalo, I think the
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: Rams will be fine. They get one super Bowl, you know,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: it's not this like all right, you know, of course
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: there's pressure to keep it going. I would rather win
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: a super Bowl than just make the playoffs. Where are
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: we at now? Are we trying to get back to
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: trying to get back to consisting dominance? You know? Right? Um?
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: Well what which? What do you think they're doing? That's
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: the question. I mean, I think that's I mean, we've
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: we've come together. I don't I would have no idea
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: to that question because last year gets mismatched. Well, but
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: it's hard, I think with the quarterback transition. And I think,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: you know, like I said before, like I don't really
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: fault them last year for trying to kind of bring
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: the band back together defensively to try to see if
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: you could squeeze it out. And I guess I do
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: agree in a sense of that in some regards, it
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: doesn't feel neither here nor there in that regard are
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: we you know, are we trying to get? And I
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: think it relates directly to mac two of you know,
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: what kind of strides is he gonna take? Is he
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: going to be good enough to offset? And that's the
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: bottom the turnover. Why could be adamant about his point?
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: I could be out of it. About my point, none
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: of it will matter if mac Jones is great, or
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: conversely if he can't play like someone a couple of
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: emails ago had the whole life. They got their quarterback
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: of the future. Okay if you if you say so,
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: I like, I don't know. He had a promising rookie year.
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: I'm not going to read into that anymore or left.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: I mean, when Brady won the Super Bowl the first
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: year he was a starter. It wasn't just Bledsoe rump
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: swabs that still had reservations about Tom Brady. Right, you
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: guys remember this pressure. Oh yeah, how did you not who?
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: It wasn't necessarily bled Soto related. I'm saying it was
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: Brady related. Like, yeah, he did a great job avoiding mistakes.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: System quarterback played to the defense, They ran the ball,
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: and they were opportunistic. They gave him a very modest
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: contract extension, and people even at the time it's a
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: big risk, and people were like, I don't know, are
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: you sure? And it wasn't big money. It was a
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: good bump for a sixth round quarterback. But there were
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: people he had just one Super Bowl MVP and people
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: were still unsure about him, and I'm supposed to be
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: convinced that mac Jones is the guy in the future, like,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: I don't know that to be well, to be sure,
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: do I think he is? Yeah? I do. Nelson Agilers,
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: I mean he thinks well. And the more of the
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: veterans that you hear from have said there's a big
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: difference Fred and the strength the work ethic, just really
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: bringing it to a different level. Mac Jones, Okay, great,
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: they haven't practiced yet. Friend. The answer to that question
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: would be, how do they know that they haven't practiced?
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: Love it they they've been together. They've been together. Um
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: Trent writes in one more email um from Silver like Alberta, Yeah,
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: I wanted to add some movies to the trilogy. Talk
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: Ocean thirteen is absolutely better than Ocean's twelve. Toy Story
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: three save the franchise. Toy Story three was better than
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: Toy Story two. Singer and Scary Movie A good movie.
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: Scary Movie three is one of the funniest movies ever made.
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: I hope you have seen these movies. If a Toy
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: Story one is that's perfect. If not, Ocean's thirteen and
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: Scary Movie three should be top of your list, along
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: with three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. That was a good movie. Yeah,
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: that was a really good It was a Yeah that
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: wasn't a sequels. Yeah, he just threw that in there.
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: That wasn't. That was a good movie though. Toy Story three,
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: when he gives the box of toys to the little girl,
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: I mean, I guess you guess me in the fields. Okay,
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: that's the lotso characters. All right, well listen, that's gonna
