- 0:23None hamster with a blunt penknife
- 0:35for. Doing quicker, quicker.
- 0:39Quicker, absolutely. So welcome back to A Hamster
- 0:43with a Blunt Penknife, a Doctor Who commentary podcast.
- 0:46We are once again live talking all things 10th planet.
- 0:50Do you know, I love the fact that people get a little hint
- 0:53now and insight into what it's like to record one of these
- 0:55things and have to introduce the episode four times in the same
- 0:59Zoom call? Yeah, Tedious, isn't it, Dylan?
- 1:02Have have you, have you done the war games yet?
- 1:03Have you had to introduce that 10 times?
- 1:05No. Yeah, no.
- 1:07We should we do the war games live.
- 1:09Oh my God, no one's got the patience to stick with us for
- 1:13five hours. I.
- 1:13Don't think back-to-back with all 14 episodes of Trial at the
- 1:17Time Lord and then the 25 hours of studio footage that's on the
- 1:21Season 24 box set. We're just doing that.
- 1:23Do them all the way through. What's that all about?
- 1:26I want to ask anyone, anyone who's there on the thread, do
- 1:28you watch that studio footage that that you know, like the 70
- 1:32hours of studio footage that was on the Season 24 box set?
- 1:36I can't do it. I have to Fast forward.
- 1:38Yeah, it's a difficult wank, but sometimes just just on that.
- 1:46Sometimes if I'm working at home, I will put the studio
- 1:49footage on just in the background.
- 1:51And you're right, it is dull. But it's quite nice every now
- 1:53and then to sort of peek over and go, oh, look, there's
- 1:56Sylvester McCoy hanging from a thing, having a chat to a
- 1:58director or something. It's worth it for that wonderful
- 2:01moment where Kate O'mara's under an umbrella in the rain in that
- 2:04quarry and Tala Narani, and she turns around and she goes, oh,
- 2:07well, this ain't like Dynasty, is it?
- 2:11In fact, I would kill for studio footage of Hartnell's time.
- 2:16Yeah, not to be unfortunately though, is it?
- 2:18All we've got is him going. I'm, I'm a legitimate actor of
- 2:21the screen and stage. Don't you know, do?
- 2:24You know what, let's get into Puss in Boots in a minute.
- 2:26But not Mark, Cockbham also says.
- 2:29Nope, he doesn't watch them either.
- 2:31Of course he doesn't. Nobody does.
- 2:32I mean, if you're out there, I I need to know what we're missing.
- 2:37Yes. But.
- 2:38Probably not a lot, but you know.
- 2:41All the interesting bits ends up in the documentaries anyway,
- 2:43doesn't it? Yeah, but someone's got to go
- 2:45through all that footage to excise all of those bits and and
- 2:49paste them into the documentaries We.
- 2:50Do not deserve the restoration too.
- 2:52We salute you, Oh, Joe, Llewellyn says.
- 2:57I tried watching it. My attention span could not
- 2:59deal. Yeah, we're the same.
- 3:03Well, look, I'm going to count as into the next episode and
- 3:06then I've got a question for you.
- 3:08Go on. A5 four everybody 321.
- 3:17So Dylan, is it Z bomb or Z bomb?
- 3:22I think it's enemy of the not enemy of the world.
- 3:24I think it's underwater menace style and it's Z bomb.
- 3:30Zaraf would live in this up. No end, wouldn't he?
- 3:33It's both. It could be AZ bomb or AZ bomb.
- 3:35I think Z bomb sounds better though.
- 3:40Is it just a zed? Because that makes it sound more
- 3:42science fictiony, I think. So yeah, sort.
- 3:45Of a harsh consonance in science fiction, didn't they?
- 3:48Yeah, now so after Hartnell left the role, he had a couple more
- 3:53TV roles. I think he was in one of the
- 3:55Doctor Fibes film as that his role was cut from there.
- 3:58I think, I can't remember it was the 1st or the 2nd 1.
- 4:00So that's footage lots of time. But he went and did a panto
- 4:03called Puss in Boots, which is where that wonderful, where that
- 4:09wonderful interview comes where he says I'm a legitimate actor.
- 4:12Now, about seven or eight years ago, I worked on a film with an
- 4:17elderly actress who was a young woman who was in that panto with
- 4:20Hartnell. And she told me all about his
- 4:23time. Like, we chatted for like 10
- 4:25minutes. And she was just like, she said
- 4:27all the cliches of, you know, he was a cantankerous, miserable
- 4:30man, you know, hard drinker, that easy to get off, not easy
- 4:33to get on with. And everybody was super excited
- 4:35about getting William Hartnell in it.
- 4:37And there was like a little an army of like model Daleks and
- 4:40stuff like that that were a part of the production.
- 4:43But she said the problem was he got so used to television
- 4:46acting, you know, the cliche of televisions, very, very small,
- 4:48all the actions here, that he couldn't project his voice
- 4:51anymore. So the panto got terrible
- 4:54reviews as a result because he just wasn't able to sort of play
- 4:58to a theatre. Great story, something I've
- 5:01never heard before. Yeah, there you go.
- 5:03Facts. We're hitting you with the
- 5:04facts. I do wonder, you know, you know,
- 5:06Trouton used to say, oh, I'm not doing that shouting in the
- 5:09evening about theatre. I'm wondering if he felt the
- 5:12same, that he's just, he wasn't used to that sort because he was
- 5:15quite subtle. Trout, I know he's a comic actor
- 5:17and a soft voice, didn't he he? Did he did now I'm not a theatre
- 5:21fan, but you I But you only go and see plays with Joe Castleton
- 5:24in right? That's right.
- 5:25Yeah, it's true. We've got some more.
- 5:30Don't you knock, Joe Castleton. I've read your book, all right.
- 5:32I won't knock Joe Castleton. She's an icon.
- 5:35She's an icon of this household, that's for sure.
- 5:38Absolutely. If you want to come to
- 5:39Eastbourne for a fish supper, and that's not a youth, I'll buy
- 5:42you one. Now we've got some more
- 5:45comments, so Joe, the women says I tried watching it, my
- 5:48attention span couldn't deal in regards to the footage, Mark
- 5:51Cockrum said. I did watch the end of Lagopolis
- 5:54where I don't like to beckon, which is what's on so oh.
- 5:58Yeah, actually that's a great insight into how fucking
- 6:01miserable he was in those last couple of weeks.
- 6:04Absolutely, Absolutely. You didn't say it well enough,
- 6:07you know. He goes.
- 6:08I don't want to beckon. There we go.
- 6:12Nathan Bottomley says, pulls out his what?
- 6:15And Mark Cochran says didn't he play Cliff Richard's father in
- 6:19ATV thing? I think he did.
- 6:20Yes, I think he did. But you know, go back and watch
- 6:24his performance in Brighton Rock.
- 6:26Go back and watch his performance in in Carry On Sarge
- 6:30and you know his best. Arnold was such a great actor.
- 6:34I think Hartnell is the only Doctor Who acts like person to
- 6:38play the Doctor that I've not seen in anything else.
- 6:41I would suggest Brighton Rock. OK, I'll give it a go.
- 6:45Oh, there's one as well with loads of men's bums out.
- 6:47I forget what it's called now. Mark, put it in the chat, you
- 6:50know it quite well. Is it This Sporting Life or Ask
- 6:53the One? Yeah, and Jon Perk was in it as
- 6:55well. Oh yeah, there you go.
- 6:57This sporting line is good. Yeah, it's so weird that we're
- 7:00talking so much about Hartnell now when he's not in this
- 7:03episode. Well, no, but his, his, his, his
- 7:06presence is here. So most of his lines go to
- 7:09Barkley and Ben, I think. Is it Barkley?
- 7:12Berkeley Barkley. Well, then, here's my next
- 7:15question for you and for the listeners, and that is, do Ben
- 7:19and Polly fill the void left by William Hartnell?
- 7:24Can they sort of keep this story moving without him?
- 7:27I think. They can do it for an episode,
- 7:28but you know when they were looking at different ways to
- 7:31carry on Doctor Who, I don't think it works with just Ben and
- 7:34Polly. I think there's a world where
- 7:36Stephen takes over the TARDIS for a few years and makes for a
- 7:39compelling lead, but I don't. Ben and Polly are very much fit
- 7:44the assistant role I think. Yeah, I think like, because what
- 7:48ends up happening is Ben's crawling around, you know,
- 7:51ventilation ducts and Polly's locked in a room.
- 7:54So they're they're not really driving this story.
- 7:57A lot of it's taking place, like you said, amongst the base
- 7:59personnel. Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:02And it's, it's a good enough story to carry on without him.
- 8:05Like as we said, it's not perfect.
- 8:08You know, there's a lot of logic holes in it, but there's a lot
- 8:10of logic holes in a lot of Doctor Who.
- 8:12So, you know, but we're not here to pick those apart.
- 8:15Go listen to Flight for entirety if you want to.
- 8:17If you want to have Doctor Who stories, pull the part that you
- 8:20love. In intelligent ways.
- 8:22In a very intelligent way, yes. Yes.
- 8:24Well. I do that much more articulate
- 8:26and intelligent than I could ever be.
- 8:28Ah, but. Not handsome.
- 8:30Come on now, what I do like is, and I'm going to mention his
- 8:35name again, it's that thing that Russy Davis does.
- 8:37He remembers to add a personal and emotional element.
- 8:41And you get a lot of Cutler and his son stuff because he's
- 8:44talking to his son on the thing. It looks like his son's going to
- 8:47die. And then that informs how his
- 8:50cat see. Don't tell me I can't do
- 8:51intelligent discussion. It.
- 8:53Informs a lot of how he behaves now because he goes off to Ben
- 8:57at one point when he's trying to sabotage the bomb and literally
- 9:01throws him like double over to a point where your back would
- 9:04probably be broken if it was real life.
- 9:06Yeah, he behaves in like a psychotic way, but I think he's
- 9:10given a solid motive to behave that way.
- 9:14Absolutely. Anthony Cowell's just made a
- 9:15good point. Makes you think if Hartnell has
- 9:18suddenly been ill for episode 4, what would have happened?
- 9:22I think they probably would have just had him knocked out on the
- 9:24floor and then just turned him over at the end.
- 9:26Yeah, I think what time in the Rani style I I wonder if they
- 9:34would have, they would have carried on.
- 9:35I think it, that's the episode that's weirdly easy to write him
- 9:39out of. And then maybe they would have
- 9:41done a film insert that they would have put in after with
- 9:43just like his final moments because they wouldn't have
- 9:46delayed the record because how far away from transmission were
- 9:48they recording these? A week or two, something like
- 9:50that. Yeah.
- 9:52So I don't think they could have delayed it.
- 9:54I'm so glad that he, you know, he's, he's back for Episode 4.
- 9:57Maybe, maybe just because it was such a big episode, maybe they
- 10:02would have done that. I don't know.
- 10:03I mean, it's all what ifs, isn't it?
- 10:05Absolutely. It's so good speculation,
- 10:07though. Yeah, it is.
- 10:09James Allenby. Ah, here we go.
- 10:12Lovely, Jim Allenby says. I read the Target novel a few
- 10:15weeks back and even in the novelisation the doctor's role
- 10:18is reduced. That surprised me.
- 10:20I thought they would have beefed it up a bit for the book.
- 10:24Yeah, no, that, that's that. That's a good point.
- 10:26Now they use the the Cybermen's names in the book, don't they?
- 10:29Gengos Krang. Yeah.
- 10:31Yeah, great names. Is it Krail?
- 10:34Krail's one of them. And what?
- 10:36What's the other one called? Somebody out there?
- 10:38Shadow. You've just read the book.
- 10:40Let us know the names of the Cybermen.
- 10:44I like my Cybermen names. Yeah, I quite like it as well.
- 10:47I, it looks like you said earlier, this is like a, a
- 10:50blueprint for the sidemen, but there's so many modifications
- 10:53after this, Mark Cochran, says Jeff.
- 10:59Cheeky git. People, Pete says.
- 11:01When Ben relates something the doctor said out of necessity
- 11:05just occurs to me. That happens in real life, but
- 11:08almost never in shows, because what actors want that.
- 11:13Yeah, makes sense. Anthony Carroll is convinced one
- 11:16of the characters sidemen, is called Chipnall.
- 11:22Yes, I believe that might be the case.
- 11:24James Allenby's memory is bloody awful and he says let me go take
- 11:27a look. So.
- 11:29Basically pondering how am I going to get out of here?
- 11:32You know what, Doctor Who stand by could possibly Get Me Out of
- 11:35this cell? Oh, look, a ventilation shaft.
- 11:37Yeah, that's. Just what you need.
- 11:39I don't think it was a thing yet though, you know?
- 11:41No, but isn't there a ventilation shaft that leads
- 11:44into the room with all the radiation as well?
- 11:49This just happens to lead to the bomb by pure.
- 11:53Chance everybody in that bunk's going.
- 11:55Why is my hair falling out? I feel really sick.
- 11:57It's like just radiation pouring through.
- 12:00Nobody can act narrating themselves, can they?
- 12:03He's going there. Oh, they didn't make locks like
- 12:06that in 1960. Oh, no, wait a minute, I'll try.
- 12:09I mean, do you do that in real life?
- 12:11Because I don't. Oh yeah, I constantly narrate my
- 12:13life. I'm just going to take the bins
- 12:15out now. Oh, look, I'm walking down the
- 12:17stairs. Oh.
- 12:19Wow, wow, really, really fancy a wank.
- 12:21Oh, that's a really unsatisfying wank.
- 12:27Oh, I don't think those rain Max, you know, would protect
- 12:30them from radiation. It's the future.
- 12:33I mean, there's, there's quite clearly gaps in the headgear,
- 12:35isn't there? And you know, we've barely
- 12:38talked about the sets, but I want to say the set here on 2
- 12:41levels, the set of the control room on several levels.
- 12:45It's quite impressive for the time.
- 12:47It's very impressive. Oh, we've got names.
- 12:49It's Crayol, Crang, Jaw and Gern.
- 12:52Good. I believe that's what John Perry
- 12:57does at most cliffhangers, Mark Cochran says.
- 13:01It seems insane to me that the gap between recording and
- 13:03transmission was so small. It's madness, isn't it?
- 13:07Imagine that today. You're a man of television.
- 13:09Imagine that today. Oh no.
- 13:11Sometimes you shoot things like at least a year in advance.
- 13:14A lot of the time it's in post production, but I shot something
- 13:17in May and June and we will it has to be out for Christmas and
- 13:21we were genuinely worried we wouldn't get it finished for
- 13:24Christmas, but we did. Now, having said that on an
- 13:27episode of two hot for TV recently, I was doing my news at
- 13:30the time it was October or September, I think, and they
- 13:33were recording time of the doctor to go out in December.
- 13:36So that's probably the quickest adopted, quickest turn around a
- 13:39new series Doctor Who story has. Even so though, 2 weeks.
- 13:46Two weeks is. But, and, you know, just as you
- 13:48know, we, it's worth saying that given the quality of what they
- 13:52produced, given that quick turn around and how quickly it was
- 13:56made and with zero fucking money, yeah.
- 13:59I mean, I feel a bit unfair that we scrutinize it the way we do.
- 14:03Yeah. But I mean, yeah, we, we
- 14:06scrutinize it because we love it and we love pulling apart the
- 14:09things with the things that we love.
- 14:11So, you know, the amount of stuff that gets through on a
- 14:14first draft and plot holes and things like that is just that
- 14:18the nature of the beast. They were basically doing a
- 14:21theatre performance every few weeks, weren't they?
- 14:24Which occasionally looked a little filmic.
- 14:26Yeah, exactly. Did Polly just go and get him
- 14:29that drink? Yes, that's.
- 14:32Why resist the trappings of sexism?
- 14:34Can they? No exactly.
- 14:35At least at the moon base they make it a plot point.
- 14:38Oh dear Polly, why not go and put the kettle on, keep them all
- 14:42happy whilst I think of something.
- 14:45It has to be said that Annika Wills was a very beautiful woman
- 14:49back in the day. Stunning.
- 14:51Absolutely stunning. I mean, you look in her
- 14:53autobiography, she's got like, modelling photographs in the in
- 14:56the middle of that, Yeah. And that makes me wet looking at
- 15:00poets. There's something about her that
- 15:03just oozes 60s, you know? Even when she's not in Doctor
- 15:07Who and you see photos from her at that time, it's just like she
- 15:10feels like the quintessential bit of like.
- 15:14Dolly Bird. Dolly bird.
- 15:15Exactly. Oh, Fraser.
- 15:17Gregory's here. Can you guess what he's asked
- 15:19us? Oh what is he saying?
- 15:20Snog marry wear their body a bit too thin.
- 15:24Crang the 80s cyber leader tutors of the Borg.
- 15:28OK. So I think I'm snogging the 80s
- 15:33cyber leader because that would be excellent.
- 15:36Sorry I'll I'll get that. I am marrying Crang and I'm
- 15:42wearing Lakutas and Borg's body suit because it looks the most
- 15:46comfortable if I'm honest. I'm going to wear the body of
- 15:50Crang because I'm not unfamiliar with a GIMP mask.
- 15:54I'm going to snog the 80s cyber leader because I don't know if
- 15:58you've seen their asses, the shocks they get in Earth, shock
- 16:01of their bums. And I'm going to marry Locutus
- 16:05of Borg. That's Patrick Stewart for
- 16:07goodness sakes. Yeah.
- 16:08There we go. Yeah, Sophie Aldridge certainly
- 16:14checked out the asses of the 80s Cybermen.
- 16:16And then she'd like, oh, has she what for?
- 16:18For real there. There was some sort of rumour
- 16:21that she shagged one of the side of men, although I think that
- 16:23was put about by Gary Downey so who knows.
- 16:25Right, so may I say you, you've revolutionized snog.
- 16:28Marry a void on these hamster commentaries now.
- 16:30Well done. There used to be an embarrassing
- 16:33party trick at Christmas, but now we love them.
- 16:38OK, so now everyone's got to try and stop the Z stroke, Z stroke,
- 16:42Z bomb. From going off, yeah, Daniel
- 16:46says. Imagine listening to Crown's
- 16:48voice every day. You might volunteer to become a
- 16:51cyber man yourself. That is true.
- 16:52It is the ultimate whiny partner, isn't it?
- 16:55What would you like for your dinner?
- 16:59It's that it's those Bill Potts conversations in Well Enough in
- 17:02Time, isn't it? Where you know she's talking and
- 17:04then you realize actually it's all being said in a cyber voice
- 17:07that suddenly becomes slightly comedic.
- 17:10Oh, imagine a date, you know. Jesus, would you like me to
- 17:13finish you off? No, it doesn't work.
- 17:18It doesn't work. I do think there's a good
- 17:22dramatic impetus now, though. Yeah, you know.
- 17:26Very important question, do the Cybermen, when they convert
- 17:30people, do they keep their genitalia or is it just it's
- 17:34gone? Why are you asking that
- 17:36question? Is there is there a cyber
- 17:38vagina? Is there a cyber cock?
- 17:41Or is that what the cyber maps are there?
- 17:43The cocks? Head over to Chris Chibnall's
- 17:45Cyber Woman and that will give you all the answers you could
- 17:48possibly need. We cover the the tough subjects
- 17:52now. Were they thinking?
- 17:54Love all these Cybermen. So the seven cyber costumes,
- 17:57which I think you know, is a lot for for these sort of things.
- 18:00And it's insane that they create these costumes and then they
- 18:02never use them again. And do you know what else I
- 18:06love? But they do use again what I
- 18:13love this music. Yeah, it's great.
- 18:15Now also that all the music from this episode is library music.
- 18:18And if you're a fan of Out of the Unknown, some of it does
- 18:21show up on Out of the Unknown episodes, which if anybody out
- 18:24there hasn't seen Out of the Unknown, it's it's an anthology
- 18:27show, so it can be hit and miss. But there's some great bits of
- 18:3060 sci-fi and you kind of feel like you're watching a Doctor
- 18:34Who spin off or something like that.
- 18:35Or it's just like it's the same sort of it's got a bigger budget
- 18:38than Doctor Who, but it's that same sort of you get the same
- 18:41actor, same sort of music in your life.
- 18:43I'll. Say, are there any adult
- 18:44crossover actor crossovers? Adult crossovers.
- 18:48Zygon. Sorry.
- 18:51Daniel also says all reject stock will be incinerated.
- 18:54So I think he's talking about the penises there.
- 18:57The cyber cock they've. All gone in the furnace.
- 19:02Oh dear, Oh dear. Now look, I love this shot of
- 19:05Ben in the ventilation shaft, very clearly visible.
- 19:09The camera pans out for everybody working away on the
- 19:13bar. Daniel says that Ben in a
- 19:16tightly enclosed space. Oh my God.
- 19:19What is your favorite cyber design of the classic series?
- 19:25This. Is it mine?
- 19:27Is this and then the wheel in space design?
- 19:29Oh, do you like the teardrop? I like the teardrop.
- 19:32I like the the tightness of the suits.
- 19:35I think it makes it makes for a a good I I never really liked
- 19:38the baggy moon based Cyberman costume.
- 19:41I like the the masks of them. Yeah, I.
- 19:43Like the masks do. You know what, actually, there's
- 19:45shots of them going across the moon and that where they're,
- 19:47they're sort of glistening and they look quite impressive.
- 19:50Well, what about the 80s ones? I I do like the 80s ones.
- 19:54I've got an 80s one at my dad's house and I do want to buy AI do
- 19:59want to get. There we go.
- 20:03But I want to get a helmet, I want to get a helmet, I want to
- 20:06get a wheel in space helmet for at at some point.
- 20:10In fact, remember we are being observed right now.
- 20:15Wonder if there's one on? I'm just I'm just having a look
- 20:17on eBay now to see if I can find a wheel in space.
- 20:20Cyber Helmet. I think the 80 sidemen work for
- 20:24like action sequences, they're far more manoeuvrable.
- 20:27So you could do more like the Five Doctors, you know, when the
- 20:29Rastam warrior goes for them or when they're running around that
- 20:32quarry and attack on the side men.
- 20:36There's a wheel and space side run helmets on on eBay.
- 20:39How much is it? It's. £275.
- 20:43Oh, you're thinking about it, aren't you?
- 20:45And we have a couple of drinks later and decide, or maybe I'm
- 20:52going to start a GoFundMe, if the guys from Hamster could just
- 20:56all chip in a tenner each. I can have my own selfish cyber
- 21:00head and I will wear it for the We'll do a Wheel in Space
- 21:03commentary live and I'll wear it for the entirety of it.
- 21:08I think that's the only thing that would make that bearable
- 21:10with that story. Do you know, I was sort of
- 21:13squinting my eyes then when the sidemen were going through the
- 21:16snow there and I was like, it almost looks like it could be
- 21:20outside. Yeah.
- 21:22I mean, that's the. Joy of this sort of grainy black
- 21:25and white footage. Yeah, the fact that those are
- 21:27the those elements are on film, I think, right.
- 21:30Yeah, yeah. So healing, yeah.
- 21:32Yeah. So it just it just it does add
- 21:34to the outsideness of it. Look at this.
- 21:36Look how he tosses him over the side, boy.
- 21:42Have you ever been tossed over the side?
- 21:44Not or in front of a massive bomb, no.
- 21:48Well, there's always a first. And Ben, let's have a hell of a
- 21:52scream as well. He does.
- 21:56I like then in this lot, he asked that moment, I can't
- 21:59remember if we missed it or not, where he kills the Cyberman and
- 22:01he goes, oh, I had no choice. I had no choice.
- 22:04And I think that's a very good like character moment to go like
- 22:08he was in the Navy. But he's not, he's not a killer.
- 22:11He's not a soldier in that respect.
- 22:13So that's nice. So he gets some character focus
- 22:15there. I like the fact that Polly got
- 22:17the focus earlier when she was standing up to the Cyberman and
- 22:20sort of driving home the the fact that they've had their
- 22:24emotions were ripped out of them.
- 22:25And actually she gets them over in episode 4 as well, which I
- 22:28think people take the piss out because it's her sort of Winfrey
- 22:31where she goes doctor, I'm scared.
- 22:32And it's when the shit's really hitting the fan.
- 22:35And newsflash, I think we all would be in that situation.
- 22:38Yeah, she gets kidnapped. By Cybermen, yeah.
- 22:41And put into restraints. Yeah, because I mean, if you
- 22:44think about what's happened to them so far, there's been the
- 22:46war machines, which has happened on their own turf.
- 22:49Then they've gone back in time to the smugglers, which, you
- 22:52know, was threatening. But they sort of take it on as a
- 22:54bit of a a jolly jape. But this is like a proper alien
- 22:58invasion. These are these are terrifying
- 23:02creatures that that want to convert us into gimps, cyber
- 23:08gimps. I'm not entirely.
- 23:11I'm not not on board. We're heading towards the last
- 23:18Cliff. I can't remember what it is
- 23:19though. I is it more cyber men arriving?
- 23:22Something like that? I can't.
- 23:23Remember, very I was about to say we're heading into the last
- 23:26cliffhanger, but actually the last episode has the ultimate
- 23:28cliffhanger, yes. It does.
- 23:30It does. What the hell has happened to
- 23:32Doctor Who? I've got, I'll talk about that
- 23:36in a bit. Actually, you know, if we can
- 23:37talk about it when it comes to it now for the next episode, are
- 23:40you going to watch the telly snap reconstruction or the
- 23:42animation? The animation of course I am.
- 23:46Me too. I want to talk about that, but
- 23:48I'm going to wait for that episode.
- 23:50I think there's an interesting conversation to have about
- 23:52animation. I do as well.
- 23:54I do no. Oh yes, it's a it's a big
- 23:57countdown for the the Z bomb or the Z bomb.
- 24:00Well, that's all right that, I mean, fucking Chipman has been
- 24:03using that in every episode in the last couple of years, you
- 24:05know? Exactly who doesn't love a good
- 24:07countdown in Doctor Who? My favorite countdown being the
- 24:12one in the season of Death where they flash the numbers on Miss
- 24:14Kelly's face. Oh, that's brilliant.
- 24:17That's just a very stylish bit of direction though as well,
- 24:20isn't it? Absolutely Miss Kelly, of
- 24:22course, one of the other hotties of 60s Doctor Who.
- 24:27My favorite countdown is oh God, I had it in my head there.
- 24:32Now I've just lost it. Got there.
- 24:33Oh no, it's 0 -, 10 seconds, 98IN inferno.
- 24:38Yes, when the drill's going in. Let's ask the audience, what is
- 24:42your favorite Doctor Who countdown?
- 24:46I, I, I get, I guess Miner was also waiting to listening to the
- 24:49charts, hoping that Doctor in Distress would chart that week
- 24:53and that we got all the way to #1 and it turns out it wasn't
- 24:55there. Mark Cochran said the one in
- 24:57Power of Crow is Pony. Oh, there's a countdown in Power
- 25:02of Crow, isn't it? Is it always that?
- 25:04It was the last live stream I did.
- 25:06Anthony Carroll says the Daleks. Yeah, there's a massive
- 25:09countdown in the last episode, Yeah.
- 25:12Termination loves the countdown, don't it?
- 25:14Well, I mean, it's a good way of creating suspense, don't you
- 25:17think? Absolutely.
- 25:19Absolutely. Actually, I do.
- 25:21Now, before I say this, you watch yourself, all right?
- 25:24I do love the way that rocket emerges from that hole.
- 25:30No, it's, it's a great little model show.
- 25:31Actually, I think it works. It's it's got sort of
- 25:35Thunderbirds energy to it, hasn't it?
- 25:37But it's they are going all out on the on the model shots on
- 25:41this. Like, I don't think we talk
- 25:42about it enough, but I think the models are pretty damn good.
- 25:45I think they've gone all out in the production of this.
- 25:48Absolutely, considering it's only like three sets and it's
- 25:51very enclosed. Like the model shots are great
- 25:54that you know just here like with the countdown on screen
- 25:57over the actors faces. Again, the cast is really good.
- 26:00All the stop footage they use is really good.
- 26:02It's it's. It's a tight production, even if
- 26:04the logic of the plot doesn't hold together.
- 26:07And sort of the person holding the purse strings is sort of to
- 26:10the side going, do you know what, this is working.
- 26:13We get a couple of sets, a couple of good actors throwing
- 26:16some monsters and you know we're doing it all for £50.
- 26:21Innis Lloyd is, you know, a fantastic producer of Doctor
- 26:24Who. Like he does some really
- 26:25interesting stuff. It doesn't always work, but he
- 26:28he takes the show in a very interesting direction, I think.
- 26:31But did it lose something because it did become a bit more
- 26:34formulaic? Yes, yeah, I think potentially
- 26:37it did. Yeah.
- 26:38It wasn't as willing to expect. I feel like after the underwater
- 26:41menace they just went let's not do anything too experimental
- 26:45again because we really bulls that up.
- 26:48Although I am a fan of underwater menace.
- 26:50More countdowns. So Daniel says.
- 26:52Doesn't 5 doctors have a sort of countdown for the cyber bomb?
- 26:55And Mark Cockrum says Thunderbirds has the best ever
- 26:58countdown in the opening. Time, of course. 5 Boom.
- 27:00Well, I'll tell you what, I'll do that for episode 4.
- 27:06Let well, let's line up episode 4 and we can get going straight
- 27:09away with that. Excellent.
- 27:11Oh, hang on. Brit Box takes a little while.
- 27:13It pauses for a second. I see I've got my digital
- 27:16versatile disc and I don't. I'm not a Brit Box guy.
- 27:21I realised the only thing I watched on Brit Box was Doctor
- 27:24Who that I have in several formats already.
