  [SPEAKER_00]: an underrated part of the jag wars and like their current trajectory is just Liam Cohen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like I think the guy is an absolute star, I think he's excellent as a head football coach.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think as a football coach in general, but specifically a head football coach and I think there's just so many different

  [SPEAKER_00]: And later on, we'll talk about Ross Matasix extension, which I think is another just great sign for the Jaguars and what they value here in Jacksonville.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But Liam Cohen, the reason I'm talking about this is because the way he handled

  [SPEAKER_00]: mandatory minicamp into getting back into three days of OTAs.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I thought was excellent the way he spoke to the rookies in the in the in the hunt video the way he spoke to them about, you know, the jag wars standard the way they need to elevate that standard the expectation and then just kind of seeing some of the different things of the last few weeks it just reminded me of

  [SPEAKER_00]: how much of a different situation the Jaguars are in from a head coaching standpoint, and a coaching standpoint in general, then they have really ever been in, like Tom Kaufflin was an absolute stud as a head coach early on, like unbelievable.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The results he was able to achieve early on with the Jaguars, but I think that there were some levels and look.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If Liam Cohen is able to accomplish some of the things Tom Cofflin did as a head coach and his career, that's going to be amazing.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I think that there are some clear areas that Liam Cohen has a little bit more of a well-rounded build as they head coach than Tom Cofflin did.

  [SPEAKER_00]: What, what everybody was excited about when the Jaguar with higher Liam Cohen was the offense, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: There's no question what he brought to the table as an offensive coach and play caller and designer.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He took a pretty good bucks offence, turned it into one of the best bucks offences.

  [SPEAKER_00]: One of the best offences in football in the year that he was there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: invaluable experience.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He called it himself like getting his PhD in coaching.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And he did a great job as an offensive coordinator at Kentucky as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Everybody always brings that question to the table.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, he's been a great play caller.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Can he continue to do it?

  [SPEAKER_00]: He clearly answered that question last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And things weren't perfect.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there were some things just that did not go the way they expected.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And as a play caller and offensive coach, he was able to pivot and change things like I think that early on, they were kind of having more expectations about the running game, they had to pivot off of that and be a more past centric team.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, they expected Brian Thomas Jr to be a star and he just wasn't last year, they.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Expect to the screen game the screen game to be a lot better and it wasn't they had Walker little as their left tackle They pivoted off that they they you know found Cole van Lannon in their own roster in their own building and And they paid him to be their starting left tackle.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They so like there's all these different things that they had to kind of overcome Also had to overcome you know a slow start for the quarterback that happens when you have a new regime a new offense all that stuff but

  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there was no question that he could coach offense and that was clearly evident last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But what he brings to the table beyond just being a great offensive coach.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think is what's really so impressive and don't give me wrong.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Being a great offensive coach is super impressive and super helpful.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But the awareness that I think he brings

  [SPEAKER_00]: not there's so there's self-awareness and and there's awareness at large and we'll talk about both of those things but the awareness of this organization, the history of this organization, making this entire off-season about attacking about not being a one-hit wonder

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's knowing what's happened here before.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Since Tom Kaufman, there has not been a Jaguar as head coach to make back-to-back runs to the playoffs.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Jack Del Rio had a couple runs right Doug Marone was a one-hit wonder Gus Bradley never sniffed I mean obviously right after he left they made the playoffs, but he never did it Malarkey right one year he was literally a one-hit wonder almost with a one-game wonder in terms of wins, but I digress You know Doug Peterson

  [SPEAKER_00]: They almost made the bluffs, but they didn't, you know, the year after 2022.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Had a horrible collapse to end the 2023 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But so he knows the history of this organization.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And he knows about the one-hit wonder thing and his entire off season, he's not completely changing everything he would normally do, but making sure that this group understands that they have not arrived.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This thing isn't built as Gus Bradley would say.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The belief that if you feel like you're good, that's when things can go in the wrong direction.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you feel like you've established yourself, that's when things can go in the wrong direction.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You always have to have that hunger, the desire to keep working, all those things that he brings to the table.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Even in, I think like your wildest hopes and dreams about what Liam Cohen could be as a leader from an awareness standpoint, motivational standpoint.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's exceeded anything I had expected, that's for sure.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's for sure.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And look, raised by a coach.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I realize the coach growing up has that right so it kind of makes sense and I love the quote being demanding without being demeaning I love that simple things the self-awareness too like he knows that he's somebody who kind of rides the way of a little bit of the emotions, the highs and the lows having guys around him that are more level-headed.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence is one of those types of guys, but there's a lot of people within the coaching staff as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I loved seeing the different voices that he brought in over the course of OTAs because they made the decision to have OTAs and then have mandatory minicamp in the middle of OTAs basically.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You had six OTAs, then you had your three days of

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then he got three more OTAs.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He knew by the time OTAs came around the second time, after mandatory mini camp, there might be a little stillness, there might be a little bit of like, okay, let's break and have our summer off and then get ready, you can get back for training camp, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: So what did he do?

  [SPEAKER_00]: He tried to come up with, and as a staff, they tried to come up with a way to keep things entertaining.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Engaging, give the players a reason to want to be there beyond just wanting to improve themselves and be around their team Like give them something so they brought in all these different voices pillars of the game to talk to the team and not coaches, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: There were some coaches, but you had AJ Green you had Damascus wear the McCordy twins, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: You had Fred Taylor Maurice Jones drew Marseilles Lewis all these guys

  [SPEAKER_00]: that are recognizable faces either within this organization, or at large, like in the NFL, to Marcus Ware, a Hall of Fame Russia, AJ Green, borderline Hall of Fame, I mean, I don't know all the numbers and all that crap, but like he played at a Hall of Fame level for a lot of his career.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you can definitely say that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And the McCordy twins, Cohen talked about just like the consistency of excellence that they were around in New England and that they brought themselves to the table, was he wanted to pick their brain himself, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: Much less the rest of the team and all the players.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was brilliant.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I thought, again, it gave a new voice, but also it gave a reason for players to be excited about like learning

  [SPEAKER_00]: The honest and genuine communication with the media that Liam Cohen and his staff provides.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now look, obviously on the injury front, they are not the most forthright group.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that's fine.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They obviously don't think that that's helpful to them.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But when you ask him a question about scheme, about culture, about competition, about Europe coming up on and about what you do well, what you don't do well, you're gonna get a straight answer from Liam Cohen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna get a straight answer from almost the entire staff.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And,

  [SPEAKER_00]: That genuine communication with the media and by proxy the fans to me is unprecedented in this building, which has been different buildings now.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But within the Jaguars history as a team, I think that the genuine communication.

  [SPEAKER_00]: is better than it has ever been.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I personally think that that's wonderful as somebody who gets to communicate and engage, but also the fans deserve that in my opinion.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Fans pack out the bank, fans spend millions and millions on merchandise on all these other different things they stay engaged.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that teams, as long as they're not putting themselves at a competitive disadvantage,

  [SPEAKER_00]: to communicate effectively with their fans.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that's not just a Liam Cohen thing.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I know James Gladstone has been all about that as well and just this entire organization, but the head coach has to be on board with that and he clearly is, and I think that that's pretty special.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And even more special is the fact that he's 13 and 4 is the jack ones had coach in the regular season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he is absolutely an excellent coach.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's gonna leave a legacy here in Jacksonville in a big way.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You know, should be very excited about their coaching staff.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Their head coach at the top, but the coaching staff too, I mean, he's put together an incredible staff.

  [SPEAKER_00]: One thing I didn't know, I did not know Matthew Arrugio was actually a GA with Campanile at Boston College, grad assistant.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So their relationship goes way back, and that's pretty cool, and so

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it's a special group led by a special head coach of my opinion.
