- 0:00You also have to keep in mind that a lot of the systems that
- 0:03we deal with now are alpha. We we don't have UEC, we have
- 0:09alpha. Gee whiz, I I didn't know,
- 0:11forgot all about that. Well.
- 0:13Let, let, let me finish. You mean to tell me this?
- 0:15Game. There's Alpha.
- 0:43Open Comms Radio your Star Citizen call in show best Star
- 0:47Citizen call in show Wednesday nights, 9:00 PM in the verse.
- 0:51I'm I'm throwing my hands up right now.
- 0:53I'm raising the roof and and you can join me here because it's an
- 0:57exciting day. No, not only because it is a
- 1:00Wednesday, not only because there was a patch release today,
- 1:06not only because we got ships today.
- 1:12Well, I guess I guess those are really all the reasons.
- 1:15But also I'm joined tonight by my my Co host, my good friend
- 1:19and friend of your mother's Duke later the second.
- 1:22How you doing? Glad to be here.
- 1:24Duke Well, glad to have you here.
- 1:26Glad to have you here, Duke. A lot going on today.
- 1:29In the. In the verse, I know you've been
- 1:33you. We popped on here and before we
- 1:36even started, we do like a little it's not a debrief.
- 1:40It's it's a pre brief. We do a little pre brief Duke
- 1:43and you told me. I usually had before the pre
- 1:46brief. Yeah, I, I, yeah, they got me.
- 1:52CIG got me. Damn, yeah.
- 1:57Was it the whole B? It was the Hull Bee.
- 2:00Do it. It was what did.
- 2:03You do, it was just buy a whole new one.
- 2:05Did you upgrade to it? I just upgraded, only cost me 10
- 2:08bucks, $10. That's how they get you.
- 2:11Yeah, I, I just, I was like, yeah, yeah, I've been looking
- 2:13for a while to upgrade from the the Starlands or Max because it
- 2:18just wasn't doing it for me. I I've been pretty disappointed
- 2:20with that one since it came out. So I said why not?
- 2:24I just really liked the look of the Hull Bee.
- 2:27I know that's a silly reason, but I think I I like the
- 2:29silhouette. It was cool.
- 2:31I'm like, yeah, I'll go do that. I love the look of the whole
- 2:35bee. I love the cockpit.
- 2:35I think it's it's gorgeous. I like the way they stack the
- 2:38the cargo on it. Yeah, yeah, the cargo I, I do
- 2:41like it's, it just makes sense. Like you can access all of it
- 2:47pretty easily from the ground. Yeah, yeah, it'd be cool if that
- 2:52thing spun around. It, I was shocked that it didn't
- 2:56'cause you know, they showed the spinning thing and I'm like oh
- 2:58that, that'd be cool. But I'll say that the way it's
- 3:00configured it doesn't really need to spin.
- 3:02I'll probably just make it needlessly complicated, which
- 3:07it's already pretty complicated. It's it's a pretty ship.
- 3:10I'm disappointed I don't have the the first light livery which
- 3:17I can't. I thought that was going to be
- 3:18available. I've seen some like streamers
- 3:20using it. That's the one that's like the
- 3:21yellow and black, like a bee. But it's not, not for everybody.
- 3:26I don't know. No, no, I mean, not everything's
- 3:30going to be for everybody. There's been nothing for me two
- 3:34years now. Yeah, well.
- 3:36It's been sad to be Jar Jar Jabroni.
- 3:38Yeah, but that's sad. Why nothing for you?
- 3:42That's I wake up every morning and that's.
- 3:46Have a mantra. I say to myself why nothing for
- 3:49jar jar. Why nothing for jar jar I don't
- 3:51know man. Why nothing for jar jar and then
- 3:54I just I continue with my day and I do the best I can, yeah.
- 3:58That's all you can do. Just like CAG, I'm, I'm doing
- 4:01the best I can. Maybe not this week.
- 4:03We're we're going to this week's episode is all about industry.
- 4:08Yeah, industrial game is industry heading in the right
- 4:13direction. No.
- 4:20Oh, end of show. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:23No, I get it. I'm with you.
- 4:24Give me, give me one. Give me one.
- 4:26Quick one, Duke. A quick one as a, you know, a
- 4:29busy space dad, I don't get into the game that much, but I've
- 4:33been trying and I still haven't even crafted anything, not a
- 4:36single thing. And it's just because it's, it's
- 4:42the quality thing and it's the scanning and, you know,
- 4:46obviously I, I could just try harder to just get garbage and
- 4:50just make something for the sake of making it.
- 4:52But when you know that there are better options and all you have
- 4:55to do is find the right rock. It's a lot of time.
- 4:59And I, I, I feel like there's now a huge grind, you know, cost
- 5:05of entry for the crafting that is going to keep a lot of people
- 5:09out. I'm, I'm a seasoned Star
- 5:11Citizen. I know my way around most things
- 5:13and I still just haven't even crafted anything because it's
- 5:16just a slog. So that's that's my quick input.
- 5:20Yeah, I feel like we're going to do really, really big deep dives
- 5:24into this crafting because we talked last week and we're like,
- 5:26we just need to do a whole episode on it and this may maybe
- 5:30that episode and. Hope, hopefully we'll get some
- 5:32people in here more qualified than Uri, which you know, if we
- 5:36get anyone in here, they'll, they'll be more qualified than
- 5:38Uri and they can really give us the the inside scoop on this
- 5:42stuff. Oh yeah, you like being beat
- 5:45down, don't you, Duke? I I love it.
- 5:47I love it. You like a tall woman?
- 5:50Yeah, yeah. Beacon is someone who likes tall
- 5:53women. We have a first time caller
- 5:55here. Oh yeah.
- 5:58We're going to bring up this guy.
- 5:59Do anything you want to say before we bring this guy up.
- 6:04No, I'll. I'll let it speak for itself.
- 6:07All right, our first time caller is Blay.
- 6:10Blay, welcome to Open Comms Radio, your Star Citizen call
- 6:13and show. This week's question Is industry
- 6:16heading in the right direction? You know, first of all, let me
- 6:21just say, you know, that scene from The Lord of the Rings were
- 6:25like Gandalf. He died.
- 6:29Everybody thinks he died fighting the ball rock.
- 6:32And then he shows up and he's all white and everybody looks at
- 6:37him and goes Gandalf. And then he looks at them
- 6:40confused. And then he says, Gandalf, yes,
- 6:45I was called that once when I heard you Call My Name, Blay.
- 6:49It was like it was like that. And I want to tell you how deep
- 6:55this rabbit hole goes because I don't know if listeners know
- 7:00this, but Jar Jar Jabroni is a very influential individual.
- 7:04He carries a lot of what some might call chutzpah, what some
- 7:08might others might, might refer to as gravitas, if you will.
- 7:12And he, yeah, yeah, yeah. He fills a room and well, he
- 7:18pulled out that Sicilian charm this morning and he said, Blay,
- 7:23if if you don't come on my show, I will probably call one of my
- 7:27relatives to hunt you down and break your legs.
- 7:29And I said, OK, well, can you do me any better than that?
- 7:33And he said, all right, Blay, I've got a task for you.
- 7:35So I went out and I did that task.
- 7:39And I've come to this, I've come to this, I've come to this, to
- 7:43this show enlightened. And I and I just want to say,
- 7:45first of all, I'm not a, you know, those who know me, I'm not
- 7:48a big industry player. Haven't haven't been around that
- 7:50long. And while I, while I was living,
- 7:56laying on my bed after doing what Jar Jar told me to, it was
- 8:00somewhere in between my third or fourth past life and becoming
- 8:04the universe itself where I was God, that I realized if I was
- 8:09God, why, Why would I create a, a, a, a 1000 different
- 8:16qualities, 1000. And what I would do is I would
- 8:22say, OK, people, I'm gonna scatter the universe with 1000
- 8:26different qualities of things. And you go and you find them.
- 8:30But here's the kicker. Your inventory.
- 8:33Yeah, I changed it. Yeah, I made it better, says the
- 8:36universe. But what I did was I give you an
- 8:37individual stack for every one of those thousand qualities so
- 8:43that you can sit there and weep tears and gnash your teeth as
- 8:47Murphy Jack says. No, Blay, it needs to be 750,
- 8:50not 749, not 7. No, you'll sell for 7:51.
- 8:59No, I gotta say like honestly that like this, this path move
- 9:04that they're taking with industry, I really did.
- 9:08They really hoodwinked me, I have to say.
- 9:10And the first thing was, is I was the one of those fools that
- 9:14thought when they released a $350.00 ship that they might
- 9:17have done a little bit of QA. So I picked up a moth.
- 9:21Choke's on me when the moth came out, but that really beautiful
- 9:27paperweight didn't last like that for too long before they
- 9:29actually kind of got to it. But then I get out there with
- 9:33this new crafting system and I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna go munch
- 9:36some ships and do some stuff. And I collect all this RMC and
- 9:40stuff. I get back, I look at the
- 9:42fabricator. Not a single recipe, not one
- 9:46needs my materials. So then I went out and I
- 9:49gathered a bunch of fame Malin in my Geo scads of it.
- 9:54I get back, I open up the fabricator.
- 9:56I'm like, I got 900 qualities. Nothing means fame Malin.
- 10:00Nothing. Now is the joke on me?
- 10:02Is it a skill issue like Duke maybe?
- 10:05How? Many blueprints do you have.
- 10:09Look, we don't need to whip it out in front of everybody
- 10:14publicly, OK? I'm just, I'm just trying to
- 10:17gather if is it because you have only like a dozen blueprints
- 10:21maybe? Are you saying I'm bitter
- 10:22because I have like no blueprints?
- 10:24Maybe, maybe. Maybe because I can't make
- 10:26blueprints because I'm flying around?
- 10:28God damn knows Who knows where to look for 750 plus ice.
- 10:35No, we were meant. For more.
- 10:38Than this jar jar we were we were born and meant for greater.
- 10:41I saw those greater things about 15 minutes ago and it isn't
- 10:45scrolling through an inventory of page after page after page.
- 10:49Just going to say that and then thanks for coming to my Ted.
- 10:51Talk. I appreciate it.
- 10:53Wow, wow. And I'm going to answer applaud
- 10:55here. That that is what I'm hearing.
- 10:57I'm I'm hearing the inventory is what Like even worse than just
- 11:02the hunting for the shit is the fact that now you end up with
- 11:06literally hundreds of just boxes of different quality shit in
- 11:10your inventory. Even worse, if you're trying to
- 11:12be an org and like keeping things with it within one
- 11:16inventory, it's a nightmare. Well, 100% and, and you know,
- 11:20you brought up the scanning issue and I would say that like
- 11:23on the one hand, with the advent of radar and, and scanning that
- 11:26it's been for me. I've, you know, I've seen people
- 11:31say like, oh, you know, if you get it down to 2°, you can scan
- 11:35something at like, you know, 70 plus clicks away, whatever.
- 11:39I, I've been able to scan things at like 30 kilometers away at
- 11:42like, you know, whatever, but it didn't tell me the quality until
- 11:45I got to the stupid thing, you know, so you get excited.
- 11:48Oh, a fest tonight. Yeah, let's do it.
- 11:50So you'll still fly the 40 clicks to the site to just get
- 11:55thrown a wet towel by CIG and you move on to the next
- 11:58disappointment. So it if Chris Roberts, if his
- 12:04goal wasn't to disappoint you, what's the what's maybe the low
- 12:09hanging fruit change he can make to this right now?
- 12:12Have like 3 qualities. Get rid of quality.
- 12:16OK, so here's the thing. And, and I know, I know that
- 12:20there are folks listening to this right now that have very
- 12:24strong opinions about what should be done.
- 12:27So I will just put mine out there and then I will let
- 12:30probably someone who identifies as a long time listener, a long
- 12:34time, you know, first time caller type individual.
- 12:37But I think that they just need to simplify it.
- 12:41And, and I agree with things that have been said before
- 12:44around like it should be, it should be applied at the
- 12:47refining process in my opinion, and somewhere tied into skill as
- 12:51well, much less just, you know, praying to R and Jesus to get
- 12:57you the the sweet thing that you need.
- 12:58You need to like be able to go out there.
- 13:01And I agree with Duke, You go out there, you collect the
- 13:03stuff, you know, the dopamine hit is from the score of the
- 13:06rarity of the material you found.
- 13:08And then, you know, apply some gameplay, some, some even some
- 13:11mini game and, and get that quality to where it needs to be.
- 13:16That's, that's honestly what I mean.
- 13:17You know, they separate the, the, the materials by quality
- 13:21throughout the, the thing you're mining.
- 13:23I don't know why they don't just have like a, a pure mixed and
- 13:27something else. And you know, when you refine
- 13:29it, you've got to pull out all the junk that isn't what you
- 13:32want and that reduces your yield maybe, but you still get like a
- 13:35good quality. I don't know, but they've got to
- 13:37do something different. The inventory is definitely
- 13:40their biggest issue. All right, I got to say I I
- 13:45agree with everything you say, Blay.
- 13:48I don't want to, you know. Yeah, I know.
- 13:50But there are some people in the world who may or may not
- 13:54disagree with us. And we actually have another
- 13:56first time caller, so who knows? Who knows how how this is going
- 14:00to go. But I don't know if you know
- 14:01this about the show, but you can stay here on the couch if you'd
- 14:04like. Yeah.
- 14:04Oh. Definitely, definitely leave
- 14:06everybody. Few minutes here, so you can
- 14:09just scoot on down there and we're going to bring up our next
- 14:12caller, Duke, who we have next in line.
- 14:17Miatak. Miatak, Miatak, first time
- 14:22caller. Miatak, welcome to Open Comms
- 14:26Radio, your Star Citizen call and show.
- 14:28This week's question is industry heading in the right direction,
- 14:33Someone who's done industry since it became a thing in the
- 14:36game. Do I feel like it's going in the
- 14:39right direction? God it's so hard to say but I
- 14:42feel like they finally picked a direction and I.
- 14:45Feel like it was so aimless and just ridiculously stupid that
- 14:51you did it because there was nothing else to do.
- 14:53Like you could be a combat pilot or you could be an indie person.
- 14:56And I've always found myself to be an indie person, and now I
- 14:59feel like mining all of these rocks has a purpose.
- 15:04Gathering all that material has a purpose.
- 15:05Even though I'm probably not going to make anything anytime
- 15:08soon, I just. Give it to.
- 15:09The org and hope for the best. Are you in the in the game more?
- 15:15Are you flying around in a prospector?
- 15:17What are you doing? I am, I've been living in my
- 15:19prospector for the last 24 hours.
- 15:22I haven't left it. So maybe it's a good thing.
- 15:26I mean, the, you know, I said that there was this, this
- 15:30barrier for entry for some people into crafting or, or into
- 15:35mining. I mean, maybe what they want is
- 15:38to separate us more, you know, to to force people to
- 15:41specialize. Like my big hope is something
- 15:44they talked about I don't know like 2017 18 ish where they
- 15:48wanted to do a big supply and demand that forces people to
- 15:52build a player run economy. Now granted they haven't brought
- 15:56that up in ages so God only knows if it's even going to go
- 15:59there anymore. But I.
- 15:59Think there was another game that did something like that, I
- 16:02can't remember. I mean, Eve Online did it, did
- 16:04it and did it very well in my opinion, but.
- 16:06Agreed. Wasn't eve online?
- 16:09I can't remember, maybe someone will bring it up later.
- 16:12Yeah, I'm sure it'll come up. I'm sure it'll come up, but like
- 16:16on Blaze point of, you know, let's clog up our inventory with
- 16:19stuff like. It's much I don't want to hone
- 16:23in on. The damn game is still an alpha,
- 16:25and probably will be for my foreseeable future.
- 16:29They got to start somewhere, you know?
- 16:31Let's, let's throw a dart now. At least we have a dartboard
- 16:34we're throwing at. Thank God.
- 16:37Yeah, yeah. I would say, you know what it it
- 16:40does, it does feel good. Now this week we had the, what
- 16:45is it called Masters of industry or something.
- 16:48There's some industry event going on.
- 16:51I was under the impression that CHJ was going to give us some
- 16:55like more industry missions, maybe some of Nicks, but it
- 17:00looks like none. It was none of that.
- 17:03It's just like a a a page on the website.
- 17:07I, I got to say I, I was like super excited.
- 17:10I was, I like, I got to, I got to say I, I also shared the
- 17:13optimism of like, OK, you know, we're going to need to craft and
- 17:16we're going to need things and we're going to, you know, it's
- 17:17going to be great. And, and I still, I still, and I
- 17:22agree too, that that I think that this is definitely one of
- 17:25those instances where they put systems in place before they put
- 17:30the tools in place for the players, the users to be able to
- 17:33use it. So hopefully something becomes
- 17:35streamlined of it. But I wanted to say like about
- 17:37those events, like nobody was more excited, I don't think, to
- 17:40go back to Levsky than I was. And I it, it definitely was
- 17:45under the impression again, that there was going to be a lot more
- 17:47content with that regard in this patch.
- 17:50I did not. I did not anticipate sitting in
- 17:53the mole outside of one of those breaker stations for an hour and
- 17:58a half while people go around getting all kinds of sick loot
- 18:04and fun stuff, and then they poke a little hole in that rock
- 18:09and I go in there and come out with less than 25 SCU of
- 18:12material. In a hole, like the whole, the
- 18:16whole idea was supposed to be the mining.
- 18:18We've got a new mining event. They showed mining ships and it
- 18:21was going to be about mining. Nope.
- 18:25Yeah, yeah. And it's, that's a really good
- 18:27.80% of that event, maybe 90% is FPS stuff.
- 18:31And we were in, I mean we in and out mining a few minutes like
- 18:36you have 3 prospectors or whatever.
- 18:39And I don't know about you, but what was the quality Judger
- 18:41like? Honestly, what was the quality
- 18:43of what you guys pulled out after all that work?
- 18:47Yeah, it was it was like fine. I think it was just like
- 18:50everything else, to be honest. Well, Mia, anything else you
- 18:55want to say before I, I pull someone else up here?
- 18:57This is this is your first time calling in.
- 18:58Thank you for calling in. It is.
- 19:01I've watched some of the stuff on YouTube, some of the older
- 19:03reels, that's about it. Oh wow, wow.
- 19:07Don't sit next to me on the couch.
- 19:08You can see that you can sit next to to blah over there, OK.
- 19:12And no, I'm good. I'm actually in the in the
- 19:16Prospector right now hunting down rocks.
- 19:19Oh well, hey, if if you find something of note, you feel free
- 19:23to interrupt whoever's talking and and.
- 19:25Let us, I was going to say please update us when you find
- 19:27that you know level 999. Yeah. 9.
- 19:32On the highest thing I've found so far today.
- 19:35What was the highest? Nine O 9, well, it's pretty
- 19:38good, higher than anything. That's pretty good.
- 19:40Yeah, yeah, I hope you got a lot of it.
- 19:43What was it, Ice. One that I can't pronounce the
- 19:47Laserite. Laserite.
- 19:51Laserite, because you got to say it with a Southern accent.
- 19:54That's why do you guys down there in the listening?
- 19:57The way we're doing this now is if you want to pop on in, you
- 19:59can raise your hand. For all the experienced callers,
- 20:04folks who've been in and out, you can raise your hand and I
- 20:07will pull you on up. So I see Skeeter down there,
- 20:12Open Comms Radio. Skeeter, welcome to Open Comms
- 20:15Radio, your Star Citizen calling show.
- 20:16Thank you for calling in. You know how it goes right here
- 20:20is industry heading in the right direction?
- 20:23Well, thanks for having me. I'm a long time listener.
- 20:25Once or twice caller. Is industry heading the right
- 20:30direction? Absolutely.
- 20:32They're like, wow, I made it a great point and that it at least
- 20:36has some direction. So I was, you know, back before
- 20:40they ruined mining. I think I've said this before,
- 20:42but I was I was a huge miner. I love mining till they ruined
- 20:45it and prior to ruining it and even after ruining it for a long
- 20:51time, the only point to mining was to make money.
- 20:54And so the only point to the there's only one thing to mine
- 20:57to make money and that was quantanium.
- 21:00It was like there's no point in mining anything else and.
- 21:06When did they ruin mining? 317 I think it was.
- 21:12How did they ruin mining? How?
- 21:13Oh my gosh. That was when they introduced
- 21:15the gadgets and that that was when they overhauled mining.
- 21:18So they basically made it completely black or white.
- 21:20Like you either could or could not crack a rock based on your
- 21:24equipment. And prior to that you could, if
- 21:27you had like the right modules. It took skill, but you could do
- 21:30it. You could crack some really big
- 21:31rocks, but again, it really took skill and you had to time your
- 21:35modules just right. But then once they ruined it, it
- 21:40was just black and white. You either could or couldn't
- 21:42break it. And they made it really
- 21:44difficult for solo players to mine anything that was worth
- 21:48making money. So you almost had to have a
- 21:52fully crude mole to do it. And then at that point you're
- 21:56splitting it three or four ways, so it just wasn't profitable and
- 22:00nobody mined until now. So now there's actually a reason
- 22:04to mine and you, there's reasons to mine up things other than
- 22:09quantanium or gold. So like my, and it surpassed my
- 22:13vision. So like my vision back in the
- 22:15day for mining was purely economy based.
- 22:17Like I kind of saw it as like if everybody was mining quantanium,
- 22:22your quantanium market's going to get flooded, prices going to
- 22:24drop. But then like you could base it
- 22:26on, you know, whether or not you know, how many aircraft
- 22:30aircraft, how many ships are getting repaired and what kind
- 22:32of materials will be needed for those repair.
- 22:34And that would drive up the need and the demand for those other
- 22:37mining materials and therefore drive up the prices.
- 22:40So it kind of be cyclical depending on, you know, what
- 22:43you're mining. But now with crafting, it's, I
- 22:47think it's way better than anything I kind of envisioned.
- 22:51So now that you have reasons to mine pretty much everything
- 22:54depending on what what it is you're trying to craft.
- 22:57So I'm a fan. I think it's heading the right
- 23:00direction. Obviously it's time to cook.
- 23:01There are some cripes, I get it. But this is like one point O, so
- 23:06I think it's only going to get better.
- 23:11I love the optimism. Thank you.
- 23:14Thank you. Thank you.
- 23:17Well, Oh my gosh, we have a lot of callers in in the waiting
- 23:20room. They're fine.
- 23:21We do. There are a few which is good.
- 23:24Yeah, Yeah, there, there are a few of them.
- 23:25This is good. It's good.
- 23:26We're gonna we're gonna have to do something about this, Duke.
- 23:28I don't know. We're gonna have to Do I have to
- 23:31to kill some of the listeners? Are we getting too big for our
- 23:34own britches? Yeah.
- 23:36Oh, can I? Can I say something real quick?
- 23:38Yeah. There's a bot in your twitch
- 23:40chat and he just needs to go. There's a bot.
- 23:45Yeah. Oh man, I'm getting targeted by
- 23:49bots first. First we were brigaded by the
- 23:52Fortnite crowd, now we're getting targeted by bots.
- 23:55This is this is good I feel. Come and listen to old men learn
- 24:01the Internet. All right, so Speaking of old
- 24:06men, we got a couple here down in the bottom here.
- 24:10I'm going to pull on this next guy, Broccoli Rob.
- 24:13Broccoli Rob, welcome to Open Comms Radio, your Star Citizen
- 24:18call in show. Broccoli, Rob.
- 24:20Is industry heading in the right direction?
- 24:24How's it going, everybody? I would say, I would say yes.
- 24:29I really think it is really excited to say that.
- 24:34All right. Thanks for coming on the show.
- 24:36Yeah, right. On the show Brother Rob.
- 24:38For a, for a long time, I mean until this patch, it was, oh, I
- 24:42want to go mining. Does anyone what can someone
- 24:45tell me about it? And it's like, oh, the most best
- 24:47thing you can do for mining is to just go bounty hunt because
- 24:51the only thing you can do with minables is sell them and bounty
- 24:54hunting is more profitable. So what what was the point?
- 24:58Like, why, why am I going out there and finding this, you
- 25:02know, XY and Z or when in reality it was all Quantanium.
- 25:09So it's Quantanium, and it was everything else.
- 25:12OK, OK, I get it. I get.
- 25:16I'm kind of on Team Blay though because I don't feel like I'm
- 25:20looking for any. Resources.
- 25:22I I feel like, I feel like team Blay are now just a bunch of
- 25:26pessimists, you know, a bunch of negative nancies.
- 25:28I was on team Blay and now I'm I'm seeing the light.
- 25:31You've moved. I'm, I'm drifting.
- 25:33I'm drifting towards team positivity.
- 25:37Yeah, let OK, let them. Let them cook.
- 25:39That's what you're calling yourselves.
- 25:41No, it's Oh yeah, Skeeter, but. OK.
- 25:47Brock and Rob as the current spokesperson for Team
- 25:50Positivity. Where?
- 25:52Where are we? Going from here.
- 25:55I think where I think they're going and where I'd like to see
- 26:00it go and I don't think this is too big of a lift.
- 26:03I think it's take the ore qualities and have them which
- 26:10way do I want to go have them round up when refining, but only
- 26:15a certain percentage. So if it's 750 quality, have it
- 26:20round up to 800, but only have 50% of that or make it through
- 26:27the refinery process. Of the rounded up, more so you,
- 26:31but you still have 10 levels, you have 10 levels of quality is
- 26:35what you're saying essentially. Yeah, so it's kind of had to
- 26:38whittle down, like the raw stuff is at 1000 and then you bring it
- 26:44down maybe 100, maybe 10. I was looking at the stats.
- 26:49They break pretty evenly at 100, like armor mitigation and damage
- 26:55and all that. For every 100, it's seems like a
- 26:58pretty even number, and it seems like that's what they're
- 27:00balancing off of that. Makes sense?
- 27:03So it makes, yeah, it makes sense to me to like when it's
- 27:07raw, you know, you just get a whole shit load of numbers, you
- 27:11know, you got 1000 of them, but then you refine it down to like
- 27:1610 levels or 20 or some much lower number of quality that you
- 27:23then craft with. I think that fixes a lot of the,
- 27:29the, IT the everything in your inventory problem, the like
- 27:32point O1 SCU of like 865 quality that you can't put into the 866
- 27:38quality. Yeah, I just see.
- 27:42I see that being a predictable solution that they would go for.
- 27:49It's shocking. It's kind of strange to me that
- 27:52like they didn't do that from the get go.
- 27:57Then they'd have to release a refinery ship and they probably
- 28:00don't have it. Done yet?
- 28:02You know it always comes back to the ships it does.
- 28:07They want to make a splash. They want to say, you know what?
- 28:09We, we, we listen to you guys, we thought it through and
- 28:13refining is the solution. And gosh darn it, you know what?
- 28:16We happen to have a ship for that.
- 28:19Yeah, and like with that comes a whole new way to refine.
- 28:27There's a whole bunch of new stuff being added.
- 28:29They're probably like, we don't really have that done yet.
- 28:31Let's just throw crafting in and get that tested because that's
- 28:34what we're doing at the end of the day.
- 28:36Do you have anything to add to team positivity?
- 28:42What? Say that again, I missed you.
- 28:44Oh, that if you if you had anything to add to team
- 28:46positivity here about the direction that the game's taken,
- 28:52No. No, oops.
- 28:54Hey, are you there? Well, hello.
- 28:58Hi. I don't know what happened to my
- 29:01audio cut out. Were you asking me A?
- 29:05Question. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:06It's. OK, you.
- 29:07Can you can forget it's fine. No, it sounds like a great
- 29:10question, but I didn't hear it. Yeah, I was just asking if you
- 29:13had anything to add to team positivity as Co.
- 29:16Captain yeah, I will say I think everyone's made good points.
- 29:21Even Team Negativity has made some good points.
- 29:24I I don't. Like the, I don't like the
- 29:26names. I, I don't like that the there's
- 29:301000 qualities. I agree that can probably have
- 29:33been done differently. Even just scaling it down.
- 29:36I think if you had like a even just quality one through 100,
- 29:40you know, reduces it by a factor of 10 and you can.
- 29:44And I kind of get why they wanted a lot of qualities
- 29:46because, you know, they got this mathematical formula that goes
- 29:49into your stacks of your weapon or your armor that you're
- 29:52crafting and the quality plays a part in it.
- 29:55And you don't want it to simplify.
- 29:57Like I think if it was one through 7 or like one through
- 30:0010, not 7, that might be like a little too simple, but I think
- 30:05that could be. I agree that the quality is,
- 30:09it's a little crazy and stacking is absurd.
- 30:12I think it's just fixing stacking and inventory will help
- 30:16solve a lot of complaints. The only other thing I wanted to
- 30:20maybe address was so like when I think Blaze approach is
- 30:26different than the way I approached it.
- 30:27So that like Blay went out and got a bunch of materials and
- 30:30then came back and wasn't able to craft anything.
- 30:33Whereas I knew what I wanted to craft.
- 30:36So I went and grinded for the blueprint first to see what I
- 30:38needed, and then I specifically targeted those minables to make
- 30:45what I wanted. And so far that has worked out
- 30:49really well. That's all I'll say.
- 30:52Not that I don't want to play, it plays great.
- 30:55But you know you know. The problem with approaching it
- 30:56in either way is it still relies on all sorts of extra knowledge,
- 31:03or rather knowledge from outside the game.
- 31:07Like you, you got to use websites, you got to use YouTube
- 31:09videos. That's a fairpoint.
- 31:12And I, I try to play the game as much as possible without that to
- 31:16get the, you know, the quote UN quote true experience that a
- 31:20gamer would have. Now, I know, you know, we, we
- 31:23can make the argument and it's been made by some that no game
- 31:25exists without that stuff nowadays, but I would say that
- 31:30most games exist. It it's possible to get that
- 31:35without going the third parties but Star Citizen is not there
- 31:39yet and I get a little bugged when they add something like
- 31:42this crafting system where if you don't go to a third party it
- 31:48it's huge. I know without data mining it,
- 31:51it's just exactly. No, that's exactly it.
- 31:53That's the whole issue that I have about them instituting
- 31:56systems without any tools. Yeah, and that's been their
- 32:01whole MO though from the beginning, to be fair.
- 32:05But you know, they, they added this, the tutorial, which was
- 32:10supposed to address some of that, but it's, it was, you
- 32:13know, the swing and a miss and everybody knows that.
- 32:16So you're not. But I'm not sure what would fix
- 32:18it though, because again, if it's too simple, you're going to
- 32:22get bored with it. Like if there needs to be some
- 32:24level of complexity that's, you know, with information is not
- 32:28easily attained. Like imagine, you know, if I
- 32:30know we got some old school gamers like playing Zelda with
- 32:34no Internet. Like you had to figure it out,
- 32:36like it was hard. You didn't know what to do or
- 32:38where to go. So I, I think there, there does
- 32:42have to be some balance. Now, I did come kind of come
- 32:46into a blind because, you know, I was gone for a little bit and
- 32:50then I came back and I'm only three days into crafting and
- 32:55there was, you know, just really just one resource that I've used
- 32:58so far. There's a picture that Hobo
- 33:00posted with the locations of where to go.
- 33:04But yeah, like if you didn't, if you were brand new of the game
- 33:06and you had no idea where you're where to go mining, and there's
- 33:09like so many places to go mining, you would have a hard
- 33:12time finding specific materials. I think so, yeah, that is a
- 33:17fairpoint, but I don't really know a great way to balance that
- 33:20either. And I would also hazard to say
- 33:22that like, when was the last time you needed a spreadsheet to
- 33:25play Zelda and I and and and not to criticize your example,
- 33:29right, not not to, but I do say that like, just given the
- 33:34complexity of the task at hand, I think it merits some sort of
- 33:39something just because like they keep changing the they change
- 33:44the system so much. They broke regolith.
- 33:47Regolith is done. And one of the reasons they
- 33:49cited for finishing up their project, which was a very
- 33:52reliable third party, you know, industry tool, was the fact that
- 33:55CIG just keeps up ending the system on the back end over and
- 33:58over and over and over again. So yes, we are in alpha and
- 34:01yeah, we are learning and developing.
- 34:02And I'm optimistic overall. I'm just more of a salvage
- 34:05player, I think is part of it. But yeah, it's yeah.
- 34:11All right. Well, we're going to move things
- 34:14along here because we got some other callers coming in.
- 34:18We're going to bring on this next guy wild card.
- 34:22Everybody can scoot down the couch.
- 34:23It's going to get pretty, pretty big here.
- 34:26Wild. You can come on in whenever
- 34:28you're ready. Thanks.
- 34:32Hello. Hey, thanks for having me.
- 34:35I appreciate it. Welcome Wild card.
- 34:37You are on Open Comms Radio and this week's question is is
- 34:40industry headed in the right direction?
- 34:45To be honest, I don't care. And.
- 34:50And. My, they, there hasn't been
- 34:54sufficient amount. I mean, I, I, I, I can hear and
- 34:58appreciate what everybody's been saying.
- 34:59And it's been very illuminating for me to listen to this
- 35:02conversation. I know that particularly that I
- 35:07mean, there's people on this couch already that I've learned
- 35:09a lot from, from the, from the industry perspective.
- 35:12I'm not an industry. Guy, I've never been an industry
- 35:14guy, but there this, this well, they've implemented so far just
- 35:21hasn't been enough to make me care about it.
- 35:23The only reason that I've been out there mining and supporting
- 35:25and mining operations for me is just been, you know, there's a,
- 35:29there's a, you know, it's the direction the org is headed in
- 35:32right now. You know, they want to craft
- 35:34they want to craft the, the, the best stuff possible.
- 35:37They want to mine the best stuff possible and a lot of focus has
- 35:41been there. And and of course, you know, I
- 35:44mean, attaining the blueprints has been fun And and you know,
- 35:49the, the, the OR we got out of the rock breaker was the juice
- 35:53wasn't worth the squeeze from a from a mining perspective.
- 35:56I mean, the event itself was awesome.
- 35:59It was the scale, the, the, the way they put it together was
- 36:03just amazing. But the at the end of the day,
- 36:05it was kind of flat when you realize that you're going
- 36:09through that that rock that you went through all that trouble to
- 36:11break and you know, the, the ore that's in there, most of it's
- 36:15not of a sufficient quality to be even interesting.
- 36:18Yeah. So it sounds to me like this is
- 36:25the beginning of a player driven economy, right.
- 36:29Like we, we've got people into the industry stuff they want to
- 36:31do it. We got people who don't care,
- 36:33people who are doing it just because they want the best gear
- 36:36and we'll we'll get there. We just need the tools.
- 36:43Yeah, better UI and better inventory.
- 36:47I forget who I was speaking with today, but a lot of it does boil
- 36:51down and as people are saying like to the inventory and, and
- 36:54how you're organizing this stuff because it's yeah, it's just,
- 36:56it's kind of messy. Yeah, every, everything's really
- 37:00messy when you're playing it. So it's always been that way.
- 37:03And then we get a glimpse right in our the year of playability
- 37:07or whatever, the earbud fixes and it's like really smooth and
- 37:11we have like a whole patch and that was like really nice.
- 37:15And then they start adding shit and you're like, ah, what is
- 37:18this? The inventory for me this patch
- 37:22has been incredibly flaky. I've had more, more problems
- 37:26this patch with my inventory than anything else.
- 37:28And you know, again, it comes down to the, what they've added
- 37:33is not really, like I said, capturing my interest or making
- 37:36me go, oh, I want to do this. And then, you know, you said the
- 37:39inventory problems on top of that.
- 37:41I I've been doing a lot of playing other games.
- 37:45Blasphemy. Oh, wow.
- 37:47Well, Duke and I are on the opposite side of this one, but I
- 37:50think it's healthy. Yeah.
- 37:54I mean, why not? I mean don't get.
- 37:57Me wrong. I'm all for it, you know, I
- 37:58mean, entering more stuff into the in in gameplay and having
- 38:01different game boots. Is it, you know, my, my big
- 38:04thing is medical. I want to do more medical
- 38:06gameplay that we haven't got around to that yet.
- 38:07Right. Medical.
- 38:08What's what is that? I don't even know what that is.
- 38:10I don't know what that is. Is that in this game?
- 38:12Do they have that? You know what?
- 38:15That's that was my introduction to the org, right?
- 38:17You know, I went on a rescue mission and rescued Murphy and
- 38:20then he started telling me about the org.
- 38:22Oh medical? You mean like what was that like
- 38:2510 patches ago? When things like it heal people
- 38:29and stuff and you couldn't just respawn at every bed and yes, OK
- 38:34that. Was the patch I I started in.
- 38:36That was my first patch. Yeah, yeah, I remember that.
- 38:40Yeah, it was really cool. That was actually my favorite
- 38:42loop. Med players have definitely
- 38:44taken a huge hit. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:49Speaking of getting hit, this guy hit me in the heart this
- 38:52week. Next guy?
- 38:54Yeah. Did he steal one of your cards?
- 38:57No, I was like, hey man, do you want to go play Magic?
- 39:00And he's like, oh, I can't. I'm playing Magic with this
- 39:02other guy. And he sent me, oh, he sent me a
- 39:06photo. That's pretty cheating my.
- 39:08Magic I. Know.
- 39:09Yeah, I know. Anyway.
- 39:11It's cosmic. It's one thing to cheat on jar
- 39:13jar, but then to send pictures of it that is you had.
- 39:15To brag about it like. That that's messed up.
- 39:17That's messed up. Hey, I'm just making inroads for
- 39:20you 'cause he has a lot of bling cards and you want them.
- 39:24Wow, I only cheated on you so that you could get closer to the
- 39:29guy I was cheating on you with. That's you know what?
- 39:32That's some Gen. Z online dating stuff that I
- 39:35just like, I don't even understand.
- 39:39I have a ghost story about that, but it's for another time.
- 39:42Cosmic Kobo Is industry heading in the right direction?
- 39:46It's a start. I, I think everyone said on all
- 39:49the other parts that I would cover as well, but mostly the
- 39:52fact that it is just a start. And I, I, I do fully agree with
- 39:57the fact that we are now actually going somewhere with
- 40:00industry because before it was all about making money and sort
- 40:05of, but it was never honestly worth the effort for the money
- 40:11we would get out of industry activities.
- 40:13But now, now there's. There's something to do with the
- 40:19stuff we mine. I hope we get more to do with
- 40:21the stuff we salvage as well. And refinery gameplay.
- 40:26Like, like I said, there's it's a start.
- 40:29And yeah, I, I, I think it's heading in the right direction
- 40:34in the sense that it's, as another person said, it's going
- 40:38in a direction. So yeah, I, I think we're
- 40:42getting there. I don't think it's from my
- 40:45interest necessarily to the point in which I feel the need
- 40:49to be super engaged with it yet. Like, I think I've spent a lot
- 40:54of time getting blueprints, but that's not really industry.
- 40:57Yet like. That tying blueprints to
- 41:01missions kind of throws a wrench in the whole industry.
- 41:06People make things because they can't make things without the
- 41:12blueprints, and to get the blueprints, your options are
- 41:17pretty much contact right now. Yeah.
- 41:21So. Which that's part of the the
- 41:23player driven economy maybe, right.
- 41:25The whole idea, yeah, you, you can make stuff really well.
- 41:28But if you want to be able to get the blueprints to make some
- 41:31stuff, you still going to make some deals with people who want
- 41:33to shoot stuff. Yeah, I could see that.
- 41:36And I'd actually love. To be able to give people
- 41:38blueprints. I I would love to be like, hey,
- 41:41hello org mate, are you, do you have the stuff?
- 41:45I have the knowledge. Here you go, and then you make
- 41:50the thing and then everyone's happy.
- 41:53Yeah, I got the money if you got the stuff.
- 41:56Yeah. I kind of like to just to be
- 41:57able to go to refinery and put it in an order for the stuff
- 41:59that I need to make the stuff that I want, then wait for
- 42:02somebody to fill it. Yeah.
- 42:06I actually really. Like the?
- 42:08I like the perspective of people who are like, I don't really
- 42:10care about crafting because it's showing that there is the start
- 42:15of an economy is like wild, like say you would need.
- 42:19So you want like a awesome medic armor.
- 42:22When that comes online, you're like, all right, who can do that
- 42:26for me because I don't want to do it.
- 42:28I want to have the medic armor, but I don't want to go grind out
- 42:3260 missions and mine for five hours.
- 42:35Can anyone do that for me though?
- 42:37Yeah, sure, I got you. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:40That's cool. Not everyone has to be
- 42:41everything. Yeah, I'm not a huge industry
- 42:45player personally. Like I'll do it, I'll join for
- 42:48events and with a group, but I'm not going to probably go out on
- 42:53my own to try and find Matt's. I just.
- 42:58No. When did we all agree to call it
- 43:00Matt's? By the way, this is this is like
- 43:02new to me everyone's. Been using World of Warcraft.
- 43:05It goes back to Wow days and I. Think it goes back to Diablo.
- 43:11Yes, OK. It's not an e-mail turn really I
- 43:15want. To that just it's sort.
- 43:17Of made different Skyrim huh? Yeah, the hobo's point.
- 43:21I think if they just physicalize blueprints that would make a lot
- 43:24of people happy. Yeah, and I can send it off.
- 43:28Blueprints to all the industry folks.
- 43:31OK, if they said they would I I just missed it.
- 43:35To what extent, though, they haven't elaborated.
- 43:38Right. They just said that you will be
- 43:39able to like trade them or you know, like choose to take one or
- 43:44not. I think they said the idea was
- 43:46like when you were rewarded 1 you could consume it, like learn
- 43:51it to yourself or choose to not do so, so that you could pass it
- 43:55on to somebody else. But we'll see how that all gets
- 43:58implemented. Now we need an auction house.
- 44:05Absolutely. Yeah, shit.
- 44:08Things are. Things are building up here.
- 44:10Things are really snowballing. They're about to get out of
- 44:12control before they got out of. Control wait, wait wait.
- 44:15Before we bring up either of these other two guys in the
- 44:17waiting room, I just wanted to mention I I was watching another
- 44:20streamer recently, Space Tomato. It's like a little guy.
- 44:24Not many people know about him, but he was talking about a game.
- 44:28It was Star Star Wars, Star Wars Gulf Star Wars. *.
- 44:37Wars Galaxies *. Wars.
- 44:39And he was drawing some comparisons.
- 44:41To. The way that, you know, it looks
- 44:43like things are going with inventory and specifically with
- 44:47the qualities. And he said, he said, yeah, you
- 44:50know, this is just how it was in Galaxies, you know, which a lot
- 44:54of people talk about as as a great game.
- 44:57And then he points out, you know, if it was so great, why
- 45:01have we not seen another game do it the same way in over 15
- 45:05years? And I just thought that was an
- 45:07interesting take that I wanted to put out there, totally
- 45:10unrelated to anyone else who might come up on the couch.
- 45:13I want to 2nd that Galaxies thing 'cause like I was a
- 45:16doctor. In Star Wars.
- 45:17Galaxies and I killed myself to make the high quality, most high
- 45:23quality meds you could for buffs and everything.
- 45:26And when I would show up at a station to like start buffing
- 45:28people, there'd be like three or four other medics there with
- 45:31lines. And then I'd show up and people
- 45:33who knew me. It's like all the lines would
- 45:34vacate and let everybody be in front of me.
- 45:36But it was. Just like I hit that point and
- 45:38it was just like, OK, I'm at the top and there's nothing left.
- 45:44There was like nowhere else to go.
- 45:46Like they they had a great. Concept and they didn't continue
- 45:49it. Well, what do you I also I hear
- 45:53those sorts of things a lot about people playing games and
- 45:56they reach the top level and what else is there?
- 45:58And I always ask, well, there's always got to be something else
- 46:03right? Like if you're in it just for
- 46:04the grind to reach the next level to me, like that's not
- 46:08gaming, that's just grinding like you've got to enjoy the
- 46:11gameplay that goes with it. So hopefully that's what CIG
- 46:16does right? Make make a grind that's
- 46:19actually fun. We can make.
- 46:23Things that go with it. Our sponsor Cruise Lux is sorry,
- 46:27one second. My Cruise Lux is here for
- 46:30everyone's love and entertainment.
- 46:31If you're going to go out into the Galaxy and and you're going
- 46:33to zip around there, why don't you grab a cool, refreshing
- 46:37Cruise Lux Cruise Lux on a hot summer day or chilly time in
- 46:41space. You know, it'll give you the
- 46:42shivers, it'll give you the sweats.
- 46:44Cruise Lux. Gives no give, no fucks 20%.
- 46:51Oh, I haven't had solid food in years since I discovered.
- 46:57All right, all right, one more thing before I bring up my
- 47:00guest. Last word.
- 47:02Take that quality thing from Star Wars Galaxies and then
- 47:06bring in the player economy from EVE.
- 47:08And that's not the do all end all.
- 47:10That's a good start. That's good.
- 47:13That's, that's the way to do it. All right, on to the couch is
- 47:17our next guest here. You know him, you love him.
- 47:21He's been here since day one. It is Wicket.
- 47:23Wicket, welcome to Open Comms Radio, your Star Citizen call
- 47:26and show. This week's question Is industry
- 47:28heading in the right direction? Citizens, long time listener,
- 47:33occasional caller. And before I get into all that,
- 47:40into what direction we're heading, we're, we're right now
- 47:45as far as 4.74.71, we're like 2 weeks into the 4.7 era Star
- 47:52Citizen. And I'm not a big fan of the
- 47:55quality. As most of you already know,
- 47:57folks that have been tuning in. I will say this, I'm, I'm not
- 48:04necessarily an industry person or PvP or I'm kind of like an
- 48:08all arounder. I like kind of dabbling into
- 48:11every a little bit of everything and I don't mind getting on with
- 48:17what in MMO parlance would be called the grind where you have
- 48:21to spend ungodly amounts of time looking for the, you know, the
- 48:27top tier materials or the top tier weapon or whatever.
- 48:31I don't mind doing that. I've never mind mind doing that.
- 48:34That's just kind of part of playing an MMO in the modern era
- 48:40of gaming. You're going to be on some sort
- 48:42of grind, whether it's for Rep, money, materials, weapons,
- 48:49whatever. Having said that, I've had a lot
- 48:52of fun in 4.7 chasing that quality.
- 48:57The 800 quality plus is what we're looking for to make, you
- 49:01know, a, a level of weapon and armor that we've as a group find
- 49:07acceptable. And like in a lot of games, when
- 49:11you go after the stuff you're you're the reason you're going
- 49:15after that is because the the players, for the most part, the
- 49:19top players are all going to be going chasing the most
- 49:24advantageous weapons, armor, ships.
- 49:28That's why there's always going to be a meta in MMO games and on
- 49:33in in these competitive online games.
- 49:36Now we're lucky and Star Citizen that we have multiple ways of
- 49:40being competitive, whether it's FPS you or you could be
- 49:47competitive, you know, ship fighting, you could be
- 49:49competitive in kind of now in in in industry, because you're
- 49:55being competitive chasing that chasing the dragon of the high
- 49:58quality number. There's a reason to go out to do
- 50:02this. You know, it's no longer the
- 50:04reason of Oh, I need to go hunt quantanium because that's the
- 50:07only thing valuable, because that was the only the only
- 50:10reason to mine in the back in the in the bad old days was make
- 50:14more money because that was like the only real metric that in Rep
- 50:18Rep. What if?
- 50:20What if they made the equality so rare that people started
- 50:27killing each other for it? I think that'd be a good thing.
- 50:32Yeah, like 900 plus Quantanium is just like super rare.
- 50:37Yeah. Well, that, that's, that's all
- 50:41funny good. I think the quality thing is
- 50:43just it's, it's ridiculous. It's a good, it's a good.
- 50:47I hope it's just a placeholder for something else that's going
- 50:50to come along because it's easy to institute quality.
- 50:53But if you think about it, between ship mining, hand mining
- 51:00and vehicle mining, we have 39 different commodities that can
- 51:06be pulled out of the ground or out of rocks, and each item has
- 51:101000 quality levels. So that's 39. 1000 individual.
- 51:15Things So what if you were a what are you know?
- 51:20I'm sure you guys have heard about the MMO players that are
- 51:23completionist. They have to have one of
- 51:25everything. Can you imagine or?
- 51:29Bastard with OCD. Yeah, just imagine that.
- 51:34I mean, I'm I'm. Sure, there's.
- 51:35People out, I'm sure there's people like that out there, you
- 51:38know, and, and where does that end?
- 51:41Just I don't know that that's for them to decide.
- 51:44But 39,000 different items, that's 39,000 different skews
- 51:49basically that have been added to the game.
- 51:53Now, they may not all be in the game right now, but in two
- 51:56weeks, with all the mining that's been done, I wouldn't, it
- 51:59wouldn't, I wouldn't put it past our player base that one of each
- 52:03quality of every item has been mined by now.
- 52:08Sure, that. Would be so.
- 52:13You know, I've I've already beat the horse to death about the the
- 52:17the quality should be in the rare materials.
- 52:20You know, if if they want to go after rarity, it shouldn't be,
- 52:25you know, stuff like iron is like everywhere should be and if
- 52:29you want something better, you'd find titanium or they could add
- 52:32any they could add whatever they wanted to this game as far as as
- 52:37a as an or give it, you know, give it whatever magic name they
- 52:41want to give it and just make it super rare and then.
- 52:44If you want. You know, if you want to, if you
- 52:47want to get the gun with the best stats and you have to have
- 52:49that rare item put in it, you'll be chasing that dragon for a
- 52:54long, long time until you finally get it.
- 52:56You may end up having to settle for something less but more
- 53:00accessible. Right.
- 53:03It's like that. It's like that sword you get at
- 53:05the very end of the game, yeah, you know, mostly gaming up and
- 53:08you play with it for 20 minutes or whatever, and then you beat
- 53:11the game. But you know, it, it, it, it all
- 53:16of this has in effect given for me personally a reason to play
- 53:21the game. Now I've played some of the Z ZS
- 53:24and I've, and I've played the rock breaker.
- 53:27That kind of stuff gets really tiresome pretty fast for me.
- 53:32And even grinding anything really can get tiresome.
- 53:36But the, the, the randomness of, of looking for an oar, it's
- 53:42we're really not mining. Everybody says, oh, we're doing
- 53:45all this mining. We're not really doing a lot of
- 53:47mining. We're doing a lot of scouting
- 53:49and the, the tools we have to scout for these minerals,
- 53:53they're lacking a lot. But you know, we work with what
- 53:56we have and we're, we're still able to find stuff.
- 53:59But you know, if you're going to go out and scouting for you, for
- 54:03every hour of scouting, you may be doing 5 minutes of mining and
- 54:08that's because you're passing over anything that's below your
- 54:11threshold. Is your threshold 708 hundred?
- 54:14Maybe some people will only pick up 900.
- 54:16Now those people, they may have to scout for three or four hours
- 54:19before they find something and and then mine for 5 minutes.
- 54:23So, you know, there's that. So it sounds like the other
- 54:26thing we really need. And again, it this is the
- 54:29beginning of the player economy, right?
- 54:30We need exploration. We need to be able to scan and
- 54:34then sell location data to other players so that you can just,
- 54:40you can be my, this is my thing. I've got a ship, you know, I've
- 54:43got the, the Drake Herald or the Terrapin and I, I've expected
- 54:47out to be an awesome scout ship and I'm just out there scanning,
- 54:51finding good stuff and then just saving that info and putting it
- 54:54up on the player market 'cause I would pay huge money for that
- 54:58personally, 'cause I, I don't enjoy scanning and flying around
- 55:02and scanning and flying around. Yeah, I'd love scanning and
- 55:05flying around. Just to find a rock that finally
- 55:07has what I want that I can't crack with my fucking mole.
- 55:11You know, that goes back to whoever was saying earlier
- 55:14about, you know, they, they changed mining and made it like
- 55:18you couldn't skill your way into it.
- 55:19It was just you can or you can't.
- 55:21And I hate walking up to something, flying up through it
- 55:24and it says impossible. And it's just like, yeah, fuck
- 55:27you. My counter argument to this, to
- 55:30what that what you're what you're getting at is that it's
- 55:33MMO. It's in the title of the genre,
- 55:37Multiplayer Massive. Well, to be fair, to be fair we
- 55:40weren't an MMO until like. Two, to be fair.
- 55:43Well, that's what we're heading towards.
- 55:45We were a simulation. I mean, are you?
- 55:47Are you, are you, are you saying that this is not an MMO?
- 55:50Star Citizen. No, it definitely is, yeah.
- 55:52OK, so the whole idea of of the space dad, which and and the
- 55:59solo player, I appreciate those player types, but.
- 56:02Thank you. They will undoubtedly have to
- 56:07reconcile the fact that they are not going to be able to
- 56:11participate in the tippy top of the tippy top of of experiences
- 56:15as a solo. Because.
- 56:17You you're if you cater everything.
- 56:20I I think most space dads appreciate whenever I see like a
- 56:24a quote UN quote self-proclaimed space dad complaining about that
- 56:27sort of thing, I'm always like, like you wicked, although I'm
- 56:31even more less kind about it. I'm just like, dude, get real.
- 56:36You know, like I, I play the game just to enjoy the play time
- 56:39that I get every once in a while.
- 56:40I know I'm not going to compete, you know, with that top 1%,
- 56:44whether it's top 1% because of skill or just top 1% because of
- 56:48play time. I'm not there.
- 56:50I'm not there on the on either scale.
- 56:54So it's I think it can cater to both in that as long as the
- 56:58gameplay is good, space dads are happy and as long as there's
- 57:02something lofty to grind towards, then you know the, the
- 57:06the try hards will be happy. Well, the, the, the, my argument
- 57:10always comes down to the, what I hear from the space dad, quote
- 57:14UN quote space dad communities. And, and maybe this is this is
- 57:17being too derivative or reductionist.
- 57:22But most of the time when I hear the argument from a quote UN
- 57:25quote space dad, it's like I can't do XI only have X amount
- 57:30of time. Yep.
- 57:33And. That's my thought.
- 57:35My first thought is I'm an. In my, my, my, my first thought
- 57:40when I hear that is and. Right.
- 57:44You know, even in real life you're a dad.
- 57:47You don't have time like a single guy does.
- 57:51That's a decision you made, dude.
- 57:53Why should I suffer? Why should I have to cater to
- 57:57you? Why you shouldn't you have?
- 57:58To cater to. Me, you know, but if, if you're
- 58:01going to have a, if you're going to have an environment in a game
- 58:05that's multiplayer and you, you, you know, most multiplayer games
- 58:09are fostering multiplay people playing together.
- 58:13That's why everybody said, you know, if you have these giant
- 58:17ships, these multiplayer games, not a a single guy shouldn't be
- 58:20able to run a a ship designed for five or ten people to man.
- 58:25They should. Hold on.
- 58:26Hold on there. Wait.
- 58:26Yeah, I know. AI know a single guy.
- 58:29Yeah, who could, who could maybe commandeer a whole space vessel?
- 58:34And I I want to bring him up here onto the show.
- 58:37Here it is, Lord Anubis. Oh, blue boys, you can come on
- 58:41up. Blue boy.
- 58:42Blue boy. Is industry heading in the right
- 58:46direction? There we go, Sorry about that,
- 58:53my mic was off. Andorian translator was off.
- 58:57Yes, you wouldn't know how to pronounce it because, well.
- 59:02He's got his antennae twisted. Yeah.
- 59:06So any direction's a good direction and it's a positive
- 59:12direction because before we didn't have a direction in
- 59:14industry. So here we are.
- 59:19So. Yeah, it's a good.
- 59:20It's a good because I mean, eventually it will morph into
- 59:27Star Wars Galaxies and then. What do we want that?
- 59:30Because no other game has done that in like over 15 years.
- 59:33So yeah. Oh, no other game has done that
- 59:38in over 15 years. I mean, have you heard of EVE?
- 59:41No. No, it's that.
- 59:44Is that like a list? Game yeah, it's it's the.
- 59:46Only game. It's the only.
- 59:48Game I I knew a girl in a college.
- 59:50Called Microsoft Office plug in. Wow, that is not.
- 59:54Really. There's a polymarket.
- 59:56Baseline going that's not really the endorsement that you think
- 59:59it is. No, I mean, people get serious
- 1:00:03about it and getting that serious about it means that it's
- 1:00:09it's gotta be, you know, enjoyable.
- 1:00:11I mean, people wouldn't invest that kind of time.
- 1:00:13People Microsoft would certainly wouldn't do this stuff, you
- 1:00:16know, to make a plug in. I mean, these things are because
- 1:00:20people get obsessed and that means.
- 1:00:22Yeah, I was just like counterpoint, counterpoint.
- 1:00:24You ever been to a casino? You ever, you ever, you ever
- 1:00:29stood there you're living in. One you ever watched?
- 1:00:3175 You ever watched the 75 year old woman sitting there pressing
- 1:00:35the same button over and over and over and over for hours
- 1:00:38endlessly? There's no fun.
- 1:00:40That's no fun. That that's something that's
- 1:00:41hijacked your brain, man. Yeah.
- 1:00:43But we've been raiding bunkers for years.
- 1:00:46Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I mean, you know, just because
- 1:00:48people keep doing something doesn't necessarily follow that
- 1:00:52they're still having fun. Yeah, but I mean, there's a
- 1:00:56reason why it's it's a popular game and still.
- 1:00:59Yeah, because the same reason that casinos are popular because
- 1:01:02human beings are stupid and our brains are hardwired for
- 1:01:05addiction. OK.
- 1:01:09I do like a nice. But at least there's enough
- 1:01:11depth to form an addiction around.
- 1:01:15That's true. That's true.
- 1:01:17I also think I go on the crush bejeweled.
- 1:01:20Yeah, angry. Birds.
- 1:01:21Have you played the Buffalo slot machine?
- 1:01:23I was going to say, I got amazing as a former addictions
- 1:01:27counselor, it it doesn't take much.
- 1:01:29Oh. Well, I know that.
- 1:01:32You. You.
- 1:01:33Got addicted to this damn game. What are you doing here?
- 1:01:36He's full of surprise. You you got to drop.
- 1:01:39The wagon. Yeah, Hey, how do you think he
- 1:01:41finds his clients? Hey, oh.
- 1:01:46That is that what that Venmo request was for.
- 1:01:50You know what that demo request was for, man?
- 1:01:52Don't, don't bring that up here. I had no.
- 1:01:56Idea. Realistically.
- 1:01:58Lord Nubis, yes. Realistically, when you said
- 1:02:01well, but no other game has ever done that in 15 years, as if you
- 1:02:06know what you know, because it was a flawed system, I'm just
- 1:02:09going to say that's as bad as ridiculous as saying, well, you
- 1:02:13know, if Firefly was that good, it wouldn't have only been one
- 1:02:15season. Well.
- 1:02:18God damn you fox. I mean it, Yeah.
- 1:02:22I mean it's. It's about the investment, yeah,
- 1:02:27but it's about the investment people are willing to make and
- 1:02:30you know, their corporations want to go with what's safe and
- 1:02:35a high concept, you know? Well thought out game is a
- 1:02:39little bit hard to get going, hence why Star Citizen is
- 1:02:42crowdfunded, you know. And that owned.
- 1:02:46By but I mean, yeah, it's not owned by Sony, who's just going
- 1:02:49to dump it because Wow makes so much money.
- 1:02:52Why are they doing this? They fucked up planet side too.
- 1:02:57Like they they they do not handle large scale Mmos very
- 1:03:02well at all. They make great ones and then
- 1:03:06they destroy them. Yeah, don't let them hear this
- 1:03:08because then it's going to be Mormon time.
- 1:03:11Then they're going to buy us. Please.
- 1:03:14Open price. Radio sponsored by Sherry.
- 1:03:20Speaking of someone who doesn't have to buy us, OK?
- 1:03:23Oh, captain, My captain. Guild leader.
- 1:03:28Murphy Jack is welcome on Open Comms Radio.
- 1:03:31Murphy, Jack. Is industry heading in the right
- 1:03:33direction? Hey, so just to echo it, pretty
- 1:03:38much everybody has said it has a direction and yes, it's going in
- 1:03:42a good direction. We finally have, I mean, a
- 1:03:45reason to go out mining. I have a mined like this in over
- 1:03:48five years and it's it's really drives you to go out and get
- 1:03:54quality or but just like all of you, the 1000 quality thousand
- 1:04:00different qualities with this inventory systems kind of messed
- 1:04:04up. But like even old wicked set,
- 1:04:07we're only two weeks into it. So it's just a start.
- 1:04:10I mean, look at where we were with, you know, you guys talked
- 1:04:13about medical 3/15 well before that 314, look at medical, it
- 1:04:17was just Med pens and then it slowly gets built up slowly in
- 1:04:25bold. But I think it's showing us the
- 1:04:31future. And I mean, the amount of times
- 1:04:34we've talked about, we have a reason for industry to go out
- 1:04:38and get that high quality stuff to outfit our people that do the
- 1:04:42focus on PvP. And the only reason why is
- 1:04:44because right now all you can make is armor and weapons,
- 1:04:47right? But what about in the future
- 1:04:48when they bring on other things, ship components, that's going to
- 1:04:52be huge base bases, right? Like this just shows that that
- 1:05:02even something as small as just weapons and armor, it's going to
- 1:05:08be pretty big. You look at UE X now go and
- 1:05:10people going look at global, global people asking, hey,
- 1:05:14anybody have 800 quality this or 750 quality that?
- 1:05:20It's starting already and it's just it's only two weeks in.
- 1:05:24So like for us is the Oregon stuff outfitting everybody?
- 1:05:28You get the org outfitted, then we can start selling on UE X,
- 1:05:33make a presence there. But that is all just in this
- 1:05:37current iteration of item recovery.
- 1:05:39What happens when item recovery tier one comes on and we go back
- 1:05:44to or maybe go back to the way it used to be where we lose our
- 1:05:47armor on, well, not lose our armor, but you leave your armor
- 1:05:51at death. You got to go get it or somebody
- 1:05:53else can loot it. Now you got this loss factor.
- 1:05:59So you constantly need a depot of quality stuff so you can make
- 1:06:05your armor right now this is it could be could really turn into
- 1:06:09something quickly. 4.8 they update it change it.
- 1:06:15It's definitely. I think it's definitely.
- 1:06:19The right just said I will riot if I lose my craft of gear.
- 1:06:22I I find this soon interesting. It's a sentiment I hear a lot
- 1:06:27from Star Citizen players and I, I always, I have on the show
- 1:06:31before, I always bring it back to Ark Survival Evolved, which I
- 1:06:36played for a long time. I know like Rust and other
- 1:06:39things are probably more topical, but those are games
- 1:06:42like you die, you lose your stuff.
- 1:06:43That's just, that's what it is. And I think that the game would
- 1:06:47benefit a lot from that. But I think one of the biggest
- 1:06:50hurdles to make that livable is we need saved outfits, right?
- 1:06:56We need to, as long as you have the stuff crafted or you have
- 1:06:59the materials, whatever you need to be able to walk up to your
- 1:07:02suit locker and just click, you know, outfit #2 and just get it
- 1:07:06all back on you. Because there's just so many
- 1:07:09little fiddly bits that you have to re equip If when you were
- 1:07:13losing. Because I, I never wore anything
- 1:07:15cool before the recent change. And it wasn't because I was
- 1:07:18afraid of losing it. It was just so tedious to put it
- 1:07:22all on. Everyone's going to be wearing
- 1:07:25sperm suits again. There's a reason people won't
- 1:07:28play Rust or Tarkov because they all rage quit.
- 1:07:32That's a fairpoint. We do need loss though for a
- 1:07:36player economy. Like there's just no way you can
- 1:07:39have a player economy if people don't lose anything.
- 1:07:42Not to degrade, but wear, wear and tear degradation.
- 1:07:46Degradation, wear and tear, that sort of stuff.
- 1:07:49Like all of that comes together to have actual like, 'cause
- 1:07:55every economy has like inputs and outputs and stuff just
- 1:07:59breaks, makes get replaced, just happens.
- 1:08:05Yeah, and then you talk. About you talk about having like
- 1:08:09a quick equip, right? Tie that into insurance, make
- 1:08:12that insurance a money sync. Now you got an AU.
- 1:08:14EC Sync. You're insuring your, your
- 1:08:17outfit so you can go to any kiosk.
- 1:08:20You know they got, they probably have an insurance kiosk right in
- 1:08:23the hospital, right? Walk up to it, hit it, boom,
- 1:08:25there's your stuff. But you pay for that.
- 1:08:28You should have to pay for that privilege.
- 1:08:31Oh absolutely. I've said this before but it's
- 1:08:34always met with poor reactions. But there needs to be a
- 1:08:37consequence to death. I don't think that consequence
- 1:08:40needs to be losing your hard earned gear.
- 1:08:44Like you look at games like World of Warcraft or other games
- 1:08:47where you craft this really high tier gear.
- 1:08:49You don't lose it when you die, but there's still a consequence
- 1:08:51of dying. Like I think if they just
- 1:08:53instituted something as simple as a death timer like that
- 1:08:57would, I think really improved a lot of aspects of the game.
- 1:09:01There would, for one, be a consequence of dying.
- 1:09:04Secondly, in areas like CZS, you wouldn't have people just
- 1:09:07immediately running again. You know, like if you remember
- 1:09:10from World of Warcraft, if you die like first time you die,
- 1:09:13it's pretty small. It's only like a few seconds and
- 1:09:15then it extends, you know, your death timer gets longer and
- 1:09:19longer the more you die in a short period of time.
- 1:09:22Honestly, personally I think that would be an.
- 1:09:25Easy fix like an attrition system.
- 1:09:29That's a terrible idea. Yeah, I know.
- 1:09:31Like I said, it's not with usually unwelcome reactions.
- 1:09:35Yeah, the longer you have someone staring at a black
- 1:09:38screen, the longer or the shorter time they're going to
- 1:09:41spend playing the game. Right.
- 1:09:42Yeah, that that's where it becomes an issue, right.
- 1:09:45Like the it's. Usually not more than like 4 or
- 1:09:475 minutes. Yeah, that's. 5 minutes.
- 1:09:53It doesn't have to be a black. Screen either, like in World of
- 1:09:57Warcraft, you're basically a ghost.
- 1:09:58You can move around and go like, you know, watch a fight, you
- 1:10:02know if it's happening wherever you died, but you you can't
- 1:10:05interact or do anything. You're you're mobi glass ought
- 1:10:09to have all the arcade games on it.
- 1:10:11Or whatever. And then when you die it just
- 1:10:13goes into like the arcade games screen and they got like 5 of
- 1:10:18them or something, you know? I think losing your gear would
- 1:10:22be a more, a better in game solution, right?
- 1:10:27Because let's say I'm at the I'm at the CZ and I've got, you
- 1:10:30know, 1010 sets of my armor and shit on checkmate.
- 1:10:35Well, if I get my ass kicked 10 times in a row, I'll be like,
- 1:10:37well, all right, I guess I got to go.
- 1:10:40I got to go find some stuff. I got to go crafts cause I lost.
- 1:10:44I'm out of it. You also have to keep in mind
- 1:10:46that a lot of the systems that we deal with now are alpha.
- 1:10:52We we don't have UEC, we have alpha.
- 1:10:54Gee whiz, I I didn't know, forgot all about that.
- 1:10:58Well, let me finish. Let me tell me this game,
- 1:11:00there's alpha. There.
- 1:11:02Well, the reason I bring that up is because we're we're in, in,
- 1:11:06in, in the development. I'm an alpha.
- 1:11:10And. Some of these.
- 1:11:11Conveniences like not losing your gear is tailored because of
- 1:11:16the bugs and the stuff you run into so you can get back into
- 1:11:20the into the into the game. But once it goes to full
- 1:11:25release, once we see one point O and we're an actual grown up
- 1:11:29game, I think death and and loss should be brutal.
- 1:11:35I think it should be very punishing.
- 1:11:38I think you should have to work to not die and then when you do
- 1:11:44it should be a pain in the ass. I think they should.
- 1:11:49I think I'm sorry. Go ahead and do this.
- 1:11:52I think they should send your digital soul to hell.
- 1:11:56Digital hell and you got to like, suffer just like in
- 1:11:59Clutcher. Yes, yes, that I take as a death
- 1:12:03screen you go to. Hell, I'm going, I'm going to
- 1:12:06digital hell, all right? I don't know about you guys.
- 1:12:08That's going. To keep you some sci-fi
- 1:12:10purgatory. Well, yeah.
- 1:12:14That's. The death screen would do that.
- 1:12:17Oh, you die. And it just opens the.
- 1:12:18Store. OK, that's CIG could get behind
- 1:12:26that. Oh yeah, that's.
- 1:12:28That's a real fan right there. Yeah, Lifelong fan.
- 1:12:36Well, you never know. Yeah, like kind of to that I
- 1:12:40agree. And I think that it's not going
- 1:12:42to be like, I think as the game progresses, we're not going to
- 1:12:45be dying, you know, five times in a 2 hour play session.
- 1:12:50I think they're going to move us away from that.
- 1:12:52And I think we are going to want to move ourselves away from
- 1:12:54that. So there's going to be no more
- 1:12:56like throwing yourself like endlessly into ruin like that's
- 1:13:01fun now, but I don't think that that's going to be as popular of
- 1:13:08a thing in one point O. You know, backspacing to get
- 1:13:13back to your home location, That should not be a fat, you know a
- 1:13:19fast mode of travel that should be frowned upon, that should be,
- 1:13:23that should be really punished. Taken away, ideally.
- 1:13:30Yeah, and you know, I, I, I, I get, you know, we're first and
- 1:13:35first and foremost, it's a game. You have to have some kind of
- 1:13:38respawn mechanic, but you can make it punishing.
- 1:13:41You can, you know, once we're, once we're full release and and
- 1:13:45you can also, like, you know, there's been a lot of talk about
- 1:13:49time to kill. I, I kind of started thinking
- 1:13:53about this whole time to kill thing while I'm out mining and
- 1:13:57you know, time to mine. You know, you're out there
- 1:14:01searching and searching and searching before you find
- 1:14:03something you really want to mine.
- 1:14:06Same thing, you know, should it be that we're wearing all this
- 1:14:10fancy space age armor? I mean, should we be able to get
- 1:14:15shot 3 or 4 times and go down or should it really take a lot to
- 1:14:19kill somebody? I like, I like the way you're
- 1:14:25like, we're thinking about this and I'm thinking about the death
- 1:14:29mechanics. You guys play Dark Souls or the
- 1:14:33Dark Souls games? No.
- 1:14:36Nobody here. No, literally.
- 1:14:39No man OK punishing death mechanic.
- 1:14:42So in Dark Souls you can be undead or human, but they're
- 1:14:47like there's game mechanics that go along with being human and
- 1:14:51being undead. There's like obviously like
- 1:14:53health but human and and right. OK, but also the multiplayer is
- 1:15:01locked behind being human. So if you want to like, invade
- 1:15:07another person's world or do PvP, you have to be in human
- 1:15:10form. And then there's a limited
- 1:15:12number of these things called like humanity or whatever, and
- 1:15:16you you crush them. And when you use it, it's gone.
- 1:15:19And then that puts you in human form.
- 1:15:21Every time you die, you get sent back to undead form, which means
- 1:15:25you can't access the online multiplayer.
- 1:15:28Not really. And you're like weaker and and
- 1:15:32have all kinds of shit that sucks.
- 1:15:36What do you think about something like that?
- 1:15:40I mean, it's a possibility and. Then you get.
- 1:15:43By the way, it's a lot of fun. But the, the, the other part of
- 1:15:46the, the, the, the other part of the, the other side of the coin
- 1:15:50of, of Star Citizen is that, you know, we're walking this
- 1:15:54tightrope of simulation slash game.
- 1:15:58And, you know, where does one, where does the simulation end in
- 1:16:01the game begin? And I don't think that question
- 1:16:04has yet to be fully answered by our developers because, you
- 1:16:09know, we're obviously still in development and that it's
- 1:16:11nothing's been settled. At least I hope it hasn't been
- 1:16:14settled, because if it has and this is where we're at, I'm not
- 1:16:17too happy about it. I'm there's, I don't know where
- 1:16:20that line should be or, or, or, or where, you know, do we lean
- 1:16:26into, into certain aspects of the game?
- 1:16:28Do you lean heavily in the simulation and other aspect
- 1:16:31aspects of it? You learn more heavily into
- 1:16:33gamification and fun. You know, they've always had
- 1:16:37this. You know, we're going to go,
- 1:16:38we're going to dial up realism and then dial it back to fun or
- 1:16:41whatever the quote they used so many times.
- 1:16:44I don't know where that line is right now.
- 1:16:48Is this the long winded way of saying no medical gameplay?
- 1:16:51No, no, no, no. Absolutely not.
- 1:16:54Absolutely not. I would love you remember how I
- 1:16:57said, you know, one day we'll, I hope we can RIP these fire
- 1:17:00extinguishers off the wall and do stuff with them?
- 1:17:02Well, we got that. Well, they have all those IED
- 1:17:05packs all over in the little medical.
- 1:17:07Shit. One day the defibrillators.
- 1:17:09What if one day you can RIP that sucker off the wall and you have
- 1:17:13to jump start old Murphy because he's gotten blown away for the
- 1:17:16umpteenth time and we have to resuscitate our Guild leader?
- 1:17:21He's going to be our first Cyborg.
- 1:17:22He's just going to lose all of. Those.
- 1:17:24Ends so fast. That's the plan.
- 1:17:27I mean that that kind of stuff is cool.
- 1:17:30That's where the simulation part, you know, that, that
- 1:17:33that's where I think you'd lean more heavily into simulation
- 1:17:36because these, I mean, it sounds kind of mundane at first, but
- 1:17:40when you think about it and, and when you would actually do the
- 1:17:43something like that in the game, I think it becomes like grief.
- 1:17:49You know, this is normally it's just, oh, I got to stab them
- 1:17:51with my pen to get them back up. Now we've got to hook up.
- 1:17:57Pads. Speaking of getting stabbed, we
- 1:18:01do have a bulletin from our very own representative.
- 1:18:07What do you call them here? What are the people who who play
- 1:18:09the show? Sponsors.
- 1:18:12Our donors are sponsored. We have from our own.
- 1:18:14Sponsors, have you forgotten how they exist or what they are?
- 1:18:19I'm not good at this. No wonder we're broke.
- 1:18:23And, and, and sponsors. Our sponsor today is Kovilex.
- 1:18:28It's 5:00 PM. You've been waiting for critical
- 1:18:31part to get the job done. So our job is to make sure you
- 1:18:34can. Our army of independent delivery
- 1:18:36people, our network of reliable drop facilities all in place to
- 1:18:41ensure the day ends how you need it to, when you need it to.
- 1:18:44Kovilex, count on us not responsible for lost packages.
- 1:18:53All right, all right. Have questions?
- 1:18:57Well done. Well, this is we're coming up on
- 1:19:00the end of the show here. The hour and a half this is this
- 1:19:03is when we we dive into other things.
- 1:19:08We rant about something else for two minutes and this week I want
- 1:19:11to talk about alien. Have you guys seen Alien
- 1:19:14Romulus? Yes, that was good.
- 1:19:17Is it worth watching? Yes, yes, it's worth watching.
- 1:19:24Yes, it's very much worth watching.
- 1:19:27OK. It's actually like refreshingly,
- 1:19:31like very, very. They paid attention to detail.
- 1:19:36Yes, I found it interesting, had like a an interesting some lore
- 1:19:40and stuff. It was fun.
- 1:19:43I went back to watch Alien Resurrection.
- 1:19:48Not very good, no. Do you see the alien Earth?
- 1:19:52Movies I I I'm like a few episodes into alien Earth.
- 1:19:55We should be. It's like the expanse too.
- 1:19:57I just like stop it at some point and and.
- 1:19:59That's 'cause don't go, don't go past a few episodes in of Alien
- 1:20:03Earth. What?
- 1:20:05Finish The Expanse. Right now, Alien, Alien Earth
- 1:20:08Finish makes sense, makes some really great, makes some really
- 1:20:11great promises in the first few episodes and then and then
- 1:20:14that's it. OK.
- 1:20:17Ignore him anyways. Yeah, The Expanse, you need to
- 1:20:21finish that. I never finished that either.
- 1:20:24Finish it and then read the books.
- 1:20:27I got to the the big gate thing and then, I don't know, I got
- 1:20:31big gate thing. I I found the political intrigue
- 1:20:33was pretty weakly written. Everyone was just all over the
- 1:20:37place. And then I was like, oh, and
- 1:20:39also there's an alien thing. And I was like.
- 1:20:43The slime, the ooze. If you were going to stop the
- 1:20:46gate, because it is. Fine.
- 1:20:49This guy right here just ignoring one of the greatest
- 1:20:52sci-fi series of all time. He's like, I don't know, I.
- 1:20:55Saw like the first three seasons.
- 1:20:57Would the other seasons even be? Embrace the first three seasons
- 1:21:02as a sci-fi like Syfy show and then realize that or seasons 4-5
- 1:21:09and six are Amazon prime. Daddy Bezos was paying big bucks
- 1:21:14to get those done. It was.
- 1:21:15It was all a Blue Origin scheme. Jeffrey Bezos, Jeffrey.
- 1:21:21Bezos, you really want to get the full Expanse experiences?
- 1:21:24Forget the show entirely. Read the books first, then go
- 1:21:27back and look at the show. Reading yes, read we'd like we'd
- 1:21:31like to apologize to our dozen dozens of.
- 1:21:34Listeners. For recommending reading.
- 1:21:37We That's all nine books and all 5 novellas.
- 1:21:41Yeah. It's excellent.
- 1:21:46Yeah, just just for their next. Their next trilogy is really
- 1:21:49good too. The The funny thing about that
- 1:21:51whole series of books and and that show is when they first,
- 1:21:56when the two there's two writers together that form the actual
- 1:22:00author and it's a writing duo. And when they initially set out
- 1:22:04to make this, this, this universe, it wasn't to make
- 1:22:08write a book. It was to make a an MMO.
- 1:22:11So it started out as an MMO and became a book series and then
- 1:22:14later on. Televised.
- 1:22:15That makes sense with the factions.
- 1:22:18Yeah, yeah, it was a well they started off those like AD and D
- 1:22:22style like tabletop RPG that they were.
- 1:22:25That also makes sense. For the first few episodes, and
- 1:22:28that's why certain things happen, because people couldn't
- 1:22:32maintain their obligations. Hurts.
- 1:22:36But just remember that these are different timelines, essentially
- 1:22:40like alternate universes. So you have your show, which is
- 1:22:43great in its own right, and then you have the books too, which
- 1:22:45are, which are great in their own right, like they are equally
- 1:22:48good did. You want Harry Potter?
- 1:22:51But equal. Yeah, yeah, it's it's just like
- 1:22:54a foundation. Foundation on TV.
- 1:22:57It wouldn't work the way the books are laid out, but they did
- 1:23:00a really good job on making a diversion timeline.
- 1:23:07What? About Red Rising.
- 1:23:10Red Rising, also amazing. Red Rising, great series.
- 1:23:14Yeah, Red making show. No, it's not a show.
- 1:23:17It's. Something like that and.
- 1:23:20Then he got really good. Drop Drop B.
- 1:23:25Drop B. Red Rising, There you go.
- 1:23:29This is about the rise of communism.
- 1:23:34No, yeah, I thought it, I initially thought it was going
- 1:23:37to be about because it was recommended to me by some
- 1:23:41communist. It won't change.
- 1:23:44It's actually a really good but a really good series and has
- 1:23:48nothing to do with communism unless it's like buried really,
- 1:23:51really deep. I mean, it's about like the
- 1:23:55lower class rising up, but. That doesn't sound very deep.
- 1:24:00Really sounds like it's rising. It's the Tom Clancy.
- 1:24:03Yeah, the lower class rises up. They do seize the means of
- 1:24:06production and over. But I don't.
- 1:24:08But I don't. See the I haven't finished it,
- 1:24:13but I don't think they seize the means of production.
- 1:24:15Just just. Read I mean, there's the
- 1:24:17original trilogy, and then they came out with a second trilogy.
- 1:24:22Yeah. So I'm, I'm reading Lightbringer
- 1:24:23right now, which is the latest point.
- 1:24:25And there's one more that's going to I'm just going to
- 1:24:27finish it. I'm probably just going to
- 1:24:29reread that whole thing. It's a great series.
- 1:24:33And if you haven't seen it yet, For All Mankind.
- 1:24:37Oh yeah, yeah, but that that's on Apple TV.
- 1:24:40No one actually has that. I.
- 1:24:41Know it was here. It wasn't.
- 1:24:44It didn't. Keep going.
- 1:24:47Yeah, keep going after you get through the like 60s Space Race
- 1:24:50stuff and it gets, it starts getting further out, it gets
- 1:24:54better. Yeah, timeline I'd rather live
- 1:24:57in, to be honest. Oh wow.
- 1:25:00OK. Also Joel Kinnaman Joel
- 1:25:03Kinnaman's cutie. Not bad to look at.
- 1:25:07He was. Did you watch Alter Carbon?
- 1:25:11Yeah, I did. The main guy from that tall
- 1:25:14motherfucker. Also I thought that.
- 1:25:17Was one of the squads. Oh, he's Swedish?
- 1:25:20Yeah, that tracks. In, in, in, in Suicide Squad, he
- 1:25:26was the. What was his name on that?
- 1:25:28Rick Flag. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:32Yeah, OK. He's a cutie.
- 1:25:34I'll give it to you. I'll give.
- 1:25:37US Alex Murphy in the 2014 RoboCop.
- 1:25:41That's right. We'll, we'll talk about that.
- 1:25:43Yeah, it wasn't very good. Oh yeah, they came and went in
- 1:25:46it. Yeah, 2014.
- 1:25:48Wow. It was a movie.
- 1:25:51It was a movie. There are people alive today who
- 1:25:53weren't alive then. They invaded Iran in that movie.
- 1:25:57That would. Be ridiculous this.
- 1:25:59Is bad open comms radio show? Thank you for listening to us
- 1:26:03every every weekend. What we're going to do today is
- 1:26:06we're going to end the show. We're going to end the show the
- 1:26:07way we always end the show. How do we end the show, Duke?
- 1:26:12Well, we we go in reverse order and we ask everyone if they have
- 1:26:15something they want to say to Chris Roberts, to people at CIG
- 1:26:18or the folks on the Internet do. You want you want to do it
- 1:26:21today, Duke. Duff, I mean, I wasn't really
- 1:26:24paying attention to the reverse order, but I will do my best.
- 1:26:27SO, Murph, Murphy, Jack, do you have anything you'd like to say
- 1:26:32to Chris Roberts, CIG and the people on the Internet?
- 1:26:35No, I'll just keep cooking. Keep cooking.
- 1:26:39So, all right, All right. Wicked.
- 1:26:46Without referencing any particular women whose names you
- 1:26:50might know. Wait.
- 1:26:53A minute Chris Roberts. Chris Roberts No, no, no.
- 1:26:59Active. Order I'm going to address this.
- 1:27:02The reason I always mention Sandy Roberts is because.
- 1:27:06She is the is. The wife of our beloved leader
- 1:27:11of development for the game we love.
- 1:27:14And sometimes you talk to the to the wife of the man to get to
- 1:27:17the man. I'm not saying anything out of.
- 1:27:19Pocket. Typical boomer logic there's.
- 1:27:21No innuendo. There's nothing untoward about
- 1:27:24it. Anyone.
- 1:27:26Who thinks? Different anything.
- 1:27:27Anyone who thinks different, you have a problem, not me.
- 1:27:31Does anyone kind of having said. That having it used.
- 1:27:34To be in the videos like all the time.
- 1:27:35Sandy Roberts, please get with your your husband, Miss Roberts,
- 1:27:43take our criticism and our input to heart about this quality
- 1:27:48stuff, the crafting. There's a better direction out
- 1:27:51there. We've talked about it to death.
- 1:27:54Let's let's you know, circle the wagons, find a better way.
- 1:27:59There's a better way. Thank you.
- 1:28:02OK, all right, Lord Anubis, anything you'd like to say to
- 1:28:07Chris Roberts, CIG, or the people on the Internet?
- 1:28:10But yes, I, I would, I would like to say, you know, sorry
- 1:28:15that wicked has now once again violated the protective gag
- 1:28:20order that was placed against him and spoke to Sandy directly
- 1:28:24and confirmed that he's just using her for her husband.
- 1:28:29So, you know, take everything with a great assault.
- 1:28:33Just like in real life, when they tell you not to believe
- 1:28:36your eyes, ignore that command. OK, All right.
- 1:28:42Ignore instructions. I believe broccoli.
- 1:28:46I think broccoli was nice. Rob, do you have anything you
- 1:28:49want to say to this Chris Roberts CIG or the people on the
- 1:28:51Internet? Yeah, let's get, let's just get
- 1:28:54refining in. I think it'll it'll take care of
- 1:28:57a lot of the major issues that people seem to have with this
- 1:29:00patch and I think it'll streamline a lot of stuff, give
- 1:29:05everyone a little bit of, I don't know, calm everybody down.
- 1:29:12That's it. Final.
- 1:29:14Calm them down. All right, All right.
- 1:29:17Next. Let's go.
- 1:29:20Gosh, it was wild. The only thing you want to say
- 1:29:23to CIG, Chris Roberts or other people on the Internet, I mean
- 1:29:27my Galaxy. Oh yes.
- 1:29:32You're dreaming. That's all I got.
- 1:29:35OK, All right hobo my towel carrying friend.
- 1:29:40Is there anything you want to say to Chris Roberts, CIG or the
- 1:29:45people on the Internet? Social.
- 1:29:48Pools social oath. I thought, I thought you said
- 1:29:52social pools and I got really excited for a minute.
- 1:29:56Oh wait, I take mine back. I take mine back.
- 1:29:58Social tools too. Social tools.
- 1:30:01Social. Tools.

- 1:30:05That's something I need desperately.
- 1:30:08A pool. Oh wait, a pool.
- 1:30:09Just social pools. Yes, Yeah.
- 1:30:15OK. All right.
- 1:30:17So it sounds sounds like our next meeting is going to be out
- 1:30:19of no inclusive. I'll work on that.
- 1:30:23Yeah, we know a guy. Nice.
- 1:30:27Skeeter, anything you want to say to CIG, Chris Roberts and
- 1:30:31the people on the Internet. Yeah, I do.
- 1:30:34Specifically to say I really think we should we should roll
- 1:30:38with the deaf timers. Don't listen to the naysayers.
- 1:30:41You think you could do it? Well, you could do it right.
- 1:30:44Please don't take away my my crafted gear.
- 1:30:46I'll be very upset. OK, fair.
- 1:30:51Mia, anything you would like to say to Chris Roberts, CIG or the
- 1:30:56people on the Internet? Seems like slow and steady wins
- 1:31:01the race, which doesn't make people happy, but I love the
- 1:31:03direction we're going. All right, That was that was
- 1:31:07everybody. I think everybody.
- 1:31:09Well, Duke, we did it. We did it without any help from
- 1:31:13anyone else. Yep, Yep.
- 1:31:18I always like to point that out. This is entirely.
- 1:31:22Yeah. All this awkwardly at each other
- 1:31:24in the back while we're sitting in the couch looking at you.
- 1:31:27Yeah. That's exactly what I picture.
- 1:31:30We're all just sitting there staring.
- 1:31:32Yes. All eight of us just sitting
- 1:31:34there staring at you. Really happy.
- 1:31:37I'm happy you guys. Finally, you see what I see.
- 1:31:42Well, Duke, we didn't. Know.
- 1:31:45You know we did. Fuck, you know.
