- 0:15This is Kevin Daley on the Sports show for Folks to a Hive, and
- 0:20this is the third hour of the show today. First two hours were taken
- 0:25up back to back with marathon stories, so we got some local sports to
- 0:30catch up on. Now. I couldn't get here last week, unfortunately,
- 0:41I wasn't very well, so we got a few roundups end of season roundups
- 0:45to do. So we will be talking football, rugby, hockey, basketball
- 0:59and wheelchair basketball, and a few dates for your diary from the Folks and
- 1:04Rowing Club we've got an open day coming up, and the Folks and Indoor
- 1:08Bowls Club who've also got an open day coming up. And we've got a
- 1:15date for your diary for the High Bay Triathlon. So in the meantime list
- 1:34at this hour of the show on the Road with Calvin Harris and Acceptable in
- 1:40the eighties local music, there skies and a song called Green. Now.
- 2:00Well, I couldn't make it last week because I wasn't too well. I
- 2:04don't seem too bad now, a bit croaky, but the show must go
- 2:07on. So I've got a few catch ups from the last couple of weeks,
- 2:12and we're going to start with football. Folks in a victor in recent
- 2:15weeks where they beat Horsham three to one, who are actually chasing a playoff
- 2:19place. They lost two nil to Chatham who are second in the league,
- 2:23and or Tuesday evening could only draw one all with already relegated Concord Rangers after
- 2:28going one kneel down. Now there's only two fixtures left. Saturday, it's
- 2:31a home tie against Dulige Hamlet or a ninth Then the last game of the
- 2:36season is Bogner away. Bogner are currently thirteenth in the table, so nothing
- 2:40to play for, but it may give all these managers a chance to give
- 2:46a budding youngsters a game in the preparations for next season. Hi've Town,
- 2:52well, I've Town. I don't know. They were just kind of having
- 2:54a really bad second half of the season, aren't they, because of their
- 2:58cup run, the wonderful games in the trophy that I don't know, they've
- 3:04they kind of slipped up a little bit and it's causing them a lot of
- 3:07grief now. But there's only a few go games to go for the season.
- 3:12So what we're going to do now, We're going to have a little
- 3:14listen to Tom Illerby because he's our men on the spot down at Rechefields and
- 3:19he's going to give us a round up of the last couple of games.
- 3:23On Saturday afternoon, Hyde lost their eighth game in a row, going one
- 3:27nil down against Phoenix Sports. With his squad wearing thinges injuries. Into a
- 3:30manager, Alex Fisher made three changes from their hammering away to three Bridges as
- 3:36Josh Sturman, Josh Whissen and Aaron Barnes will placed Sam and Tuma, Ky
- 3:39Garrand and Josh Vincent who were all unavailable. It was a Visitors who broke
- 3:45the deadlock in the thirteenth minute as a loose ball in the penalty area was
- 3:47tucked into their net by Ryan Hayes past former Phoenix Sports goalkeeper Steve Phillips.
- 3:53In the second half, inches away from equalizing on fifty four minutes through an
- 3:57Oscar Web free kick from twenty five yard which he placed onto the head of
- 4:00Josh Whisson, who nodded the ball narrowly wide of the post. The last
- 4:04ten minutes of the match were played almost exclusively in the Visitor's own half as
- 4:09they struggled to clear the ball away, unable to do anything with it.
- 4:13The full time whistle blewed to mark another defeat for Hythe, but an important
- 4:16victory for the visitor's Phoenix Sports, who are now guaranteed the place in next
- 4:20season's Isthmian League's Southeast Division. On Tuesday evening, the Cannon has put up
- 4:26a valiant effort with dwindling numbers of available players as they went down one nill
- 4:30at home to Sitting Bourn at Reachfields. On his final match as caretaker manager
- 4:34before new manager Sammy Moore takes over. Alex Flischer made two changes in Saturday's
- 4:40one nil defeat against Phoenix Sports as he injured. Brad Schaefer and Steve Phillips
- 4:44were replaced by Troy Howard and Sam Flischer, who, despite being all right
- 4:47back by trade, came in as a goalkeeper. On thirty one minutes.
- 4:51Hythe had to deal with another setback after Josh Sturman was given a straight red
- 4:56card for the referee following a comment made on the pitch. Despite Hyde's bold
- 5:00attempt at keep being a clean sheet, it wasn't meant to be and in
- 5:03the forty first minute a shot towards goal was saved by Sam Fleischer, but
- 5:06Chris Harris managed to get his head on it. On the rebound, despite
- 5:11Fisher getting a hand to it, the ball crept in to give the visitor
- 5:14as a lead going into halftime. In the second half, the fans continued
- 5:17to see a very balanced match between the two sides. The first chance came
- 5:21on sixty five minutes as Jake Eenbury received the ball for Hive and opted to
- 5:26shoot from twenty five yards out. His shot went just over the crossbar.
- 5:30The second half went on without either Sideman that Jingsa register a chance, but
- 5:33on ninety minutes Kean Garlinge was shown a second yellow card, meaning Hyper down
- 5:39to nine men. It must be said that defender Sam Fleisher putting a great
- 5:43display between the six for hythe making a number of important saves, but the
- 5:46result does mean that Hith have've lost nine matches in a row. The fight
- 5:50shown from the Highe players was admirable though, as they failed to go down
- 5:54without a fight. With this being Alex Flischer's final Gamers caretaker manager, there
- 5:59should be some optimism around the club as we await Sammy Moore's first match as
- 6:02manager away to Broadbridge Heath on Saturday, with the match kicking off at three
- 6:06PM, so as Tom says there. The next game is away on Saturday
- 6:11at Broadbridge Heath, then two more games to end the season. Tuesday,
- 6:15the twenty third, they faced potential champions Cray Valley as they push for the
- 6:18top spot, having the luxury of a game in hand over Ramsgate, and
- 6:23their final game will be at home to Lancing, who are currently in sixth
- 6:26place. It looks like after a long tough season with a bad run in
- 6:30this half but a really good run in the first half, it looks like
- 6:32they're going to end up in mid table. Hawkins Town now Last Saturday,
- 6:38Hawkingstown beat Ashford seven ZIHL and now have to wait until the six to May
- 6:42for their last game away to Tenterdon Town. Unfortunately, even if they win
- 6:46this match, they can't get near champions Hawks AFC, who've already finished their
- 6:51season finishing with sixty six points to Hawkins's sixty two. A win at ten
- 6:57to them would only give them sixty five, so Hawkins have to settle for
- 7:01runners up. This year, they all seem to have been playing a catch
- 7:03up. Hauls have just been that one point in a game in hand all
- 7:08season and they must be ruined the drawn games that they played earlier on in
- 7:15the season. So now we're going to switch to folks in the Victor disability
- 7:19team. And once again this was a tournament a couple of weeks ago where
- 7:24they had a goal shy day, not scoring one goal in nine games.
- 7:28However, at least two opposition managers said that Garret Wilson's team deserved to win.
- 7:33The premiership side drew neil neil four times against Sorry. The Premiership side
- 7:39drew neil nil four times against Chatham, Maidstone, kings Hill and Southeast Goals.
- 7:45The championship side had three neil nil games against Ankorian's, Charlton and Maidstone
- 7:50Silver, but then lost one niil to Southeast Goals and three nil two Maidstone
- 7:56Copper In. Victor were short of players due to injuries and lay withdrawals and
- 8:01fitness played a part. However, some very good team performances were made.
- 8:05Man of the Match in the Premiership was shared between Ron Jack and Jared Prescott,
- 8:09and in the Championship Man of the Match could have been shared between James
- 8:13Island and Geran Wilson himself, who made five good saves in goal, but
- 8:18it was decided to award it to Graham Dre for his support on the line
- 8:22as a sub and what a lovely gesture that was. That's really good and
- 8:26that is typical of the folksing of It's a disability team really looking out on
- 8:31caring for each other. Now, the next tournament is Fabusham and that's going
- 8:37to be on the twelfth of May, so that's something for the lads to
- 8:39look forward to. Okay, coming up now, we've got Delementry and always
- 8:43the last to know. Five minutes there of Bond always what a great supergroup
- 9:05they were. Okay, so we're cracking on with the sport with excuse me,
- 9:11I just hit the microphone by mistake. We're cracking on with the local
- 9:15sport now and they've got some hockey news which should have gone out a couple
- 9:18of weeks ago. But it's the end of the season for them already.
- 9:22I mean, where has that gone? It just seems like not so long
- 9:26ago we were starting off. Anyway, the final games of the season took
- 9:31place, and here are the stats or one particular game, the men's seconds
- 9:37was a walk over, which normally means that the opposing team can't put a
- 9:39side out, so it was instead of twelve. It was played eleven.
- 9:45They won five, lost, four, drawn two. They scored goals four
- 9:50was twenty eight and they let in goals against eighteen. Now, the men's
- 9:54first eleven lost three to two to South Saxons. The Seconds, as we
- 9:58just said, was a walk over victory, but that didn't stop the celebrations
- 10:03in their league winning in their league winning season, so word unto the Seconds
- 10:07there for winning their league. The third also finished top of their table as
- 10:11they beat Cliftonville two to one. Goals from Freddie Brown and Kyle Mackett.
- 10:18Three goals from Archie Richardson and one from Joe Thrasher gave the fourth team a
- 10:22four nil win over Canterbury, putting them in second place in their division.
- 10:26The men's fifteen beat Tunbridge World's four to three, The sixteen beat Gravesham's six
- 10:31to two. Derel Gilham Jones and Tim Wesley scored one apiece and two of
- 10:35the under fourteen boys both shared two goals each, Harry Rowe and Theo Coombs,
- 10:41as they finished runners up in their division, and the men's seventh team
- 10:46lost one nail two k Sports, ending their season with the top six finish.
- 10:50The Ladies First eleven drew to aur with Brighton and Hove finishing in fourth
- 10:54place in an extremely competitive league. The Seconds lost three nils Blackheath and the
- 11:01third team drew one all with Deal the solitary goal coming from Sophie Atwill.
- 11:07The fourth team lost four to two to Madstone, but the fifth team,
- 11:09having already gained promotion, finished on a high note by beating Gillingham and Korean's
- 11:15five nil thanks to goals one from Emmy Gainsford, with Janet Fuller and Beckershaw
- 11:20they got two each. Well that's it for another season and I know one
- 11:26person that would be put her feet up for a while, and that's the
- 11:28media guru Amy. Now, Amy, she's a great communicator as she manages
- 11:35to compile and chase up and report where possible on all twelve teams and get
- 11:41their results to my inbox by Monday at the latest. So thank you Amy
- 11:45for making my job really easy. Now. This season has seen me following
- 11:48the progress of two teams, in particular the newly formed Ladies fifteen, which
- 11:54is a mixture of players returning to the game after many years away and Youngster's
- 11:58new to hockey for what combination and it worked as they won the league.
- 12:03The other team I've been following is Adrian Rose Boys under fourteenth team who have
- 12:07fought their way to a national final against a team called Wallingford who come from
- 12:11South of Oxford. Their final was to be played at the Nottingham Hockey Center,
- 12:16which is the premier hockey venue in the Midlands. This game will be
- 12:18played on Sunday, the twenty eighth of April. However, we mustn't forget
- 12:24the men's seconds and thirds both won their leagues. The sixth team development side
- 12:28finished second. This team given several of Adrian's under fourteen's experiencing playing adul hockey,
- 12:35which will serve them well in their final, and the men's seventh team
- 12:37had a top six finish. The Ladies first team in the tough Southeast Premier
- 12:43Division finished a creditable fourth and of course the Ladies fifteen won the league.
- 12:48Now special mention must go to this amazing man, Brian Murrell. Now Brian
- 12:54represented England during the week and listen to this. The over eighties e England
- 13:00hockey team is such an underwhelming character, is so modest and try and get
- 13:09him on the show. There's no chance. During the week they played a
- 13:13Holland team, a Dutch team. Unfortunately they lost to nil. But it
- 13:16turns out that Brian had a really good game. So we're down to you,
- 13:20Brian, And what shining example is to all of us. Still playing
- 13:24his ball he loves at over eighty. So a great season all round for
- 13:28the club which has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and of
- 13:33a feeling that the end of season presentation is going to be a bit of
- 13:35a messy business. Now, I want to say hello and I wish my
- 13:43partner Sue a happy birthday. Now. Her birthday is actually on Saturday,
- 13:48on the twentieth, and she and some of her friends are going to do
- 13:52a special park run and they're going to gather around and help her along the
- 13:56park run as they do a bit of walk running, and they don't care
- 14:00what time they go, uh, as long as they have a good time.
- 14:03Now, one particular song that she really really wants and she really really
- 14:07loves, and we were talking about this the other day. Sue was born
- 14:09and bred in Folkston. She's got hundreds and hundreds of friends in Folks and
- 14:15I can't go anywhere with her without bumping into somewhere that she knows. So
- 14:20this special song, and it really does suit her down to the ground,
- 14:22is by Dean Warrick and is called That's what Friends Are for Dione Warrick there
- 14:48and did you recognize a couple of other voices in there? Certain Leil and
- 14:52John was in there, and I think a little touch of Stevie Wonder might
- 14:54have been in there. So that was for Sue. It's her birthday of
- 15:00on Saturday. It's got a naught on the end, but I'll be in
- 15:03big trouble if I tell you what the first figure was. So anyway,
- 15:07have a great, great birthday on Saturday, sou And just for a birthday
- 15:11present, I'll take you up to London to watch the London Marathon. Now,
- 15:15well I know how to treat a lady, Okay. Now, a
- 15:18couple of weeks ago we had Martin Chander on the show and he went up
- 15:22to London to run the London Landmarks half Marathon and he sent me in this
- 15:26little report and I did promise that i'd read it out last week, but
- 15:30unfortunately there was no show. So I've got to fulfill my promise and I'm
- 15:33going to read it out today. So Martin told me that this day started
- 15:37at eight forty on a bus from Folkeston, when the train from Ashford to
- 15:41St Pancras and then underground to the start line. If you remember that the
- 15:46trains from Folkston to Ashford were a bit dodgy, then they had to do
- 15:52some rail replacement or something. Now Martin says the atmosphere was incredible, from
- 15:56walking to the line, waiting in the waves to start, and all around
- 15:58the course. Now the course is a great course, but when people say
- 16:03London is flat, don't believe them. They were at least five hills.
- 16:07The weather in the first nine miles was perfect for running until the Tower of
- 16:11London and then fifty mile an hour along the Embankment Wins to Big Ben,
- 16:15which didn't help his time one little bit, but it was great to get
- 16:18over the lineo and achieve a pbe of two hours, twenty six minutes and
- 16:22thirty eight seconds, knocking a massive eight minutes of his time for the big
- 16:26half. Massive thanks goes to his wife Tania and the kids, and also
- 16:33his dad Graham and partner of Lorraine for making the journey up to London and
- 16:36supporting him at four places around the course. Also to the charity Cheer Points,
- 16:41who made the most noise when I run past them, giving me that
- 16:44extra boost. So Martin was so happy to have completed the landmark's half and
- 16:49it raised eight hundred pounds for Evelena's Children's Hospital, which is going to help
- 16:53towards the cost of the British Transplant Games in Nottingham this year. Next year
- 17:00Martin was booked in to run it again and he will be joined by his
- 17:03son Cameron, who will be there. He'll be twenty three years old next
- 17:07year. And this is where the story all started as Cam was given a
- 17:11new kidney donated by his mum and it all happened at Evelena Children's Hospital,
- 17:18something that the Chandler family have never forgot. You're version to men from the
- 17:33year two thousand and that was a song called Lady Hear Me's an ad from
- 17:37a group called Mojo. Now it's time for some news from the Saints basketball
- 17:44and remember this was a couple of weeks ago, but it sounds like the
- 17:48club had an exciting weekend as they welcomed the Wales Under fourteen national team to
- 17:52the Three Hills in a mixture of games. On Saturday, the Saints under
- 17:56fourteens beat the Saints under fifteensen seventy five points to fifty four. The weekend
- 18:03consisted of like some games against the Welsh and some exhibition games between inter club
- 18:08games. Then the Saints under fourteen's lost to a Wales Red team by seventy
- 18:15four points to sixty one, and lastly the Saints under fifteen team lost seventy
- 18:21two points to sixty five against the Wales White team. Sunday saw the Saints
- 18:26under fourteen beat the Wales White team seventy three sixty two after they had controlled
- 18:32the game from start to finish. Then the final game of the weekend,
- 18:34which sounded the most exciting, saw the Wales Red team play an under fifteen
- 18:40Saints team made up of a mixture of boys and girls. The final score
- 18:44was fifty seven points to fifty five in favor of the Welsh, but this
- 18:48game went right to the wire, the last scoring basket come in just four
- 18:52seconds before the end of the game. So the weekend has shown just how
- 18:56far basketball has come in this town thanks to the usiasm of the players and
- 19:00coaches under the guidance of Mark Hinton and Stuart Hunt and everybody involved in the
- 19:06club. The connection was made as the Saints have an under fourteen year old
- 19:11who actually plays for the Wales and these games were played to assist Wales in
- 19:15their preparation for the forthcoming Four Nations competition. So we can now see just
- 19:21how highly respected the Folks and Saints are in the world of basketball. So
- 19:26switching our attention to wheelchair basketball now. Last Saturday, the Folkston Arrows made
- 19:30the long trip to Cardiff to play the Cardiff met Archers in their final game
- 19:34of the season, but the result didn't go their way as they lost sixty
- 19:38two points to fifteen. However, they are currently in second spot, but
- 19:42the season is not quite over yet as some of the teams surrounding them still
- 19:47have games to play. Now, when the season is completed, I will
- 19:49give you a final rundown of the positions. Although I must say it's been
- 19:53a pleasure for a pleasure following the Arrows each week and hopefully making the people
- 19:59aware that we do have a wheelchair basketball team in our town and that perhaps
- 20:03they might like to go along one Saturday and watch a game or even become
- 20:07involved behind the scenes. So why not go to the Folkston Arrows Wheelchair Basketball
- 20:12Club Facebook page and have a little look. Okay, so we're going to
- 20:17switch out to ourselves to a bit more music now, and it's Samantha number
- 20:21and Gotta tell You Academy FM Folcus. Yeah, ye, Samantha member.
- 20:48They are from the year two thousand, a song called gotta tell You.
- 20:51I've known that for a long time, you know, and I must admit
- 20:52I was kind of singing along and I nearly you might have noticed this.
- 20:57I was going to say, hit me be beer one more time. Sounded
- 21:00just like Britney Spears than there to Still anyway, moving on, so it's
- 21:04time for some rugby news now. Now. Two weeks ago on Saturday saw
- 21:10the Folks the first fifteen's, the last game of the season, and what
- 21:12a crackery was too, especially for the Morton family. Former guest of the
- 21:18show and long servant of the club. John Morton stepped out onto the pitch
- 21:21along his side his son Ryan, and they both ended up on the scoresheet
- 21:26in this thirty points to twenty seventh victory. Ryan scored from a try and
- 21:30a conversion and Dad John scored the winning points from a penalty kick in the
- 21:34last minute of the game. All this topped up as it was the club's
- 21:38fiftieth anniversary year. Now, after a disappointing second half of the season,
- 21:44the team finished in fourth place, but if they stayed together for next season,
- 21:48promotion could be a possibility. The second fifteen had a mediocre season,
- 21:52finishing six out of ten and the Thirds, who are currently ninth out of
- 21:56ten teams, still have two matches to play. Now rugby doesn't seem to
- 22:00stop at the Burlington Fields, and I'll be on the lookout for summer tournaments,
- 22:04especially for the youth's sections. There's normally loads of youth festivals and things
- 22:10going on up there. Now. Before I finished this rugby report, a
- 22:14bit more news about John Morton. Last year John run the London Marathon for
- 22:18the rugby charity wood and Spoon, which raises money for vulnerable children and young
- 22:23people through the power of rugby. For this John was invited to play for
- 22:27a Wooden Spoon fifteen against the team from listen to this against the team a
- 22:33team from the House of Commons and the House of Lords, a bet they
- 22:36had loads to talk about and this was held at the most famous rugby venue
- 22:40in the world. Yes, Twickenham, the home of rugby. They lost
- 22:44the game by just two points, but got the full experience of the day,
- 22:48playing on the hallowed pitch, using the main international changing rooms and dinner
- 22:52in the player's lounge. What an experience and well deserved to a loyal servant
- 22:57of the Folks and Rugby Club. Well done to you, John Morton.
- 23:02Okay, time for a bit more music, as we are nearly coming to
- 23:04the end of this third hour of the Sports show. Today. This is
- 23:07Rudy Mental and these days I know you're moved on to someone beautiful, jesays
- 23:19Rudy mentor there and these days Okay, So, as I said, this
- 23:23coming to the end of the third hour of the Sports Show, and I
- 23:26thought I'd do a three hour sports show. But today was a really,
- 23:30really special day because it was all about the London Marathon and four fantastic local
- 23:34people that will be on the start line the Blackheath on Sunday. So the
- 23:38last little bit then few snippets here. Folks and Rowing Club have an open
- 23:41weekend this weekends twenty first twenty of twenty first of April. If you've ever
- 23:47fancied having a go at rowing, then please visit the Facebook page and follow
- 23:52the links to fill in a form which I followed and found out that the
- 23:55Sunday is fully booked, so getting quick for the Saturday. That's a folks
- 23:59In Rowing Club open weekend this weekend, and there's also an open day at
- 24:03the Folks and Bowls Club on the twelfth of May. Now this is really
- 24:07really worth a look. If you've never been in there, driven past it
- 24:11and never been in there, go and have a look. Me and missus
- 24:12Ferry had a go last year and we thoroughly enjoyed it. And finally on
- 24:18the twelfth of May it's the Hive Bay Triathlon and next week I will be
- 24:22joined by in the studio, but I remember a member of the organizing team,
- 24:27Max Ramsley, who is the men's coach and captain, and he'll be
- 24:30telling us all about it. So I can't say any more than good luck
- 24:36to absolutely everybody from Folkston and hive I hope to have a roll of honor
- 24:41next week and might have to do a four hour show and read out some
- 24:45names and times and how they get on the highs and the lows. So
- 24:48I'll catch all, catch you all, And next week this is the I
- 25:02fail myself during the time
