- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome in is Verdicu Center, Ted Cruz ben Ferguson with you.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's so nice to have you with us on the
- 0:05Speaker 1: radio wherever you are around the country. And we've got
- 0:08Speaker 1: a lot to cover on the show, including some very
- 0:12Speaker 1: interesting news coming out of New York City and also
- 0:15Speaker 1: center some legislation on education, which unfortunately we should have
- 0:19Speaker 1: never had to have needed this, but here we are.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Well, we're going to talk about the DSA and the
- 0:25Speaker 2: hard left. Who are these Marxists that are rising up,
- 0:28Speaker 2: Where do they come from, what's their background, what do
- 0:30Speaker 2: they believe. We're also going to talk about education legislation
- 0:33Speaker 2: that I introduced to get us back to the basics,
- 0:35Speaker 2: to get us back to phonics, to get kids back
- 0:38Speaker 2: to learning to read, to get us back to what
- 0:40Speaker 2: actually works in a way from woke left wing agendas
- 0:44Speaker 2: that have hurt our kids for years. Then we're going
- 0:47Speaker 2: to talk about what is happening in New York City.
- 0:49Speaker 2: We're going to talk about comrade Mondami, who tragically you
- 0:53Speaker 2: had a stabbing in New York with a Zealot who
- 0:57Speaker 2: screamed aluha akbar as he stabbed a Jewish Man and
- 1:03Speaker 2: at the same time what is Bondami doing, not protecting
- 1:06Speaker 2: the citizens in New York, but instead for a moment
- 1:09Speaker 2: at least, claiming he's going to arrest the Prime Minister
- 1:12Speaker 2: of Israel, Benjamin and Yahoo. Now he ran away from
- 1:15Speaker 2: that like he touched a hot stove. I think finally
- 1:18Speaker 2: a lawyer told him what would happen if that happened.
- 1:20Speaker 2: We're gonna break that down for you as well. And finally,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know, you've been told by the news over and
- 1:27Speaker 2: over again that illegal voting never ever ever happens. Illegal
- 1:31Speaker 2: immigrants never ever ever vote. And the governor in Jersey
- 1:35Speaker 2: came out and said, uh oops, yeah, it happened a
- 1:38Speaker 2: lot in New Jersey. We just kind of screwed up
- 1:40Speaker 2: registered a bunch of illegals to vote, and what do
- 1:42Speaker 2: you know, they showed up and voted. We're gonna break
- 1:46Speaker 2: all of that down.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a computer glitch. It's never hug of.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Course, never a huge and the computer made them show
- 1:53Speaker 2: up and actually illegally vote. That's what That's what happened.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It's one heg of a story. We're gonna touch that
- 1:58Speaker 3: in just a little bit.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I also, I want to talk to you real quick
- 2:01Speaker 1: about what you can do to get involved right now
- 2:04Speaker 1: and praying for the people of Israel. The headlines many
- 2:08Speaker 1: times they move on, but the heartache and terror they
- 2:10Speaker 1: do not. I Ran and its terrace proxies continue to
- 2:13Speaker 1: target Israel. Hesblad continues its attacks in the North, forcing
- 2:18Speaker 1: families to live on her constant threat. But Israel is
- 2:22Speaker 1: not only defending her people, she is standing on the
- 2:24Speaker 1: front lines against terror that threatens us all. Even when
- 2:28Speaker 1: the news crews leave, the International Fellowship of Christians and
- 2:32Speaker 1: Jews they remain. Every day, they are on the ground
- 2:35Speaker 1: and they're providing life saving aid near Israel's border with Lebanon.
- 2:40Speaker 1: You just had a hesblod drone that recently struck the
- 2:42Speaker 1: home of Yellina, widowed earlier this year and living alone.
- 2:46Speaker 1: She was trapped inside by that blast. Now, thankfully she
- 2:50Speaker 1: was not injured, but she remained displaced. As she described it,
- 2:53Speaker 1: it's hard these days, but I don't want to leave.
- 2:57Speaker 1: As Christians, we're called to stand with God people in
- 3:00Speaker 1: pray for those defending Israel and protecting the freedoms we hold. Dear,
- 3:04Speaker 1: I want you to join the International Fellowship of Christians
- 3:07Speaker 1: and Jews in praying for the peace of Jerusalem, as
- 3:11Speaker 1: well as for the soldiers, the families, the civilians that
- 3:14Speaker 1: are carrying the burden of this fight. Right now, all
- 3:17Speaker 1: you have to do to find out who you can
- 3:19Speaker 1: pray for is go to PREYIFCJ dot org. Yes, you
- 3:24Speaker 1: can join me and others praying for people in Israel
- 3:27Speaker 1: in need. That's pray IFCJ dot org. PRAYIFCJ dot org.
- 3:34Speaker 1: All right, so let's start out sentator talking about the
- 3:37Speaker 1: Democratic Socialists of America. I want to declare it now
- 3:41Speaker 1: very clearly for people list together radio.
- 3:42Speaker 3: This is a real organization.
- 3:44Speaker 1: They have real power in the Democratic Party, and many
- 3:48Speaker 1: believe this is actually the future of the Democratic Party,
- 3:51Speaker 1: including who they decide to endorse to run on the
- 3:55Speaker 1: Democratic side for the presidency.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Well, let me be clear. The DSA is not some socialists.
- 4:01Speaker 2: They're communists, they are outright Marxists, they are radicals, and
- 4:05Speaker 2: we're witnessing a hostile taker takeover of the Democrat Party.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And look, there are some Republicans that are celebrating, say hey,
- 4:14Speaker 2: this is great, the other side has gone crazy, that
- 4:16Speaker 2: we should be really happy. That's going to be easy
- 4:18Speaker 2: to beat them in November. Let me be clear, I'm
- 4:21Speaker 2: not celebrating. I think it is dangerous as all get out. Listen,
- 4:25Speaker 2: I want a country with two major political parties that
- 4:30Speaker 2: actually have normal people, that are not nuts. I'd like, Okay, look,
- 4:35Speaker 2: if Democrats are fans of a little bit higher taxes,
- 4:38Speaker 2: a little bit more regulations, okay, Like I don't agree
- 4:41Speaker 2: with that, but we can have a reasonable conversation between
- 4:47Speaker 2: how high taxes should be. The Marxists who are taking
- 4:50Speaker 2: over the Democrat Party are absolute zealots. And I got
- 4:54Speaker 2: to say, there was some very interesting polling that came
- 4:57Speaker 2: out this week, and it looked at voting patterns from
- 5:01Speaker 2: twenty sixteen to twenty twenty four and who voted for
- 5:04Speaker 2: the Democrat running for president, who voted for the Republican
- 5:07Speaker 2: running for president, and it broke the voters down into
- 5:11Speaker 2: twenty quadrants. So it had in terms of education, it
- 5:16Speaker 2: had high school or less. It had some college, four
- 5:20Speaker 2: year college degree or postgraduate degree. So those are the
- 5:24Speaker 2: four four educational levels. And then on income, it had
- 5:28Speaker 2: less than thirty thousand a year, it had thirty to
- 5:31Speaker 2: sixty thousand a year, and at sixty to one hundred
- 5:34Speaker 2: thousand a year, it had one hundred to two hundred
- 5:35Speaker 2: thousand a year, and then finally it had two hundred
- 5:38Speaker 2: thousand plus a year. So that's twenty quadrants. Now, of
- 5:43Speaker 2: those twenty, what do you think was the single highest
- 5:48Speaker 2: percentage voting for the Democrat presidential nominee.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I'm gonna guess.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I'm going to guess younger, just because I think that's
- 5:54Speaker 1: where they get a lot of their support.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Right now, Well, it is true, this was not age base, though,
- 6:01Speaker 2: this was education based.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So young, So I'm going to say less than college
- 6:06Speaker 1: degree or a high school diploma.
- 6:08Speaker 3: And I may be wrong.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You are totally and completely wrong. I love you.
- 6:13Speaker 3: So it's a Harvard Yell and Princeton crazies, that's what
- 6:15Speaker 3: we're getting at.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It is so the old traditional stereotype was Republicans of
- 6:23Speaker 2: the party of the rich and Democrats of the party
- 6:25Speaker 2: of the poor and working class. That I don't know
- 6:28Speaker 2: that that was ever the case, but it is not
- 6:30Speaker 2: the case today. Democrats are the parties of the party
- 6:34Speaker 2: of rich coastal elites and Republicans are a blue collar party.
- 6:39Speaker 2: And listen, that has been my base from the day
- 6:41Speaker 2: I got elected to the Senate. My base has been
- 6:44Speaker 2: truck drivers and steel workers and cops and firefighters and
- 6:47Speaker 2: waiters and waitresses. That's who my base has been.
- 6:50Speaker 3: But I want you to look at these work in
- 6:51Speaker 3: the Permian is your voter.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Look you got a South Texas oil and gas guy,
- 6:56Speaker 2: a Hispanic guy driving a pickup truck. You go bird
- 7:00Speaker 2: on the weekend. Those are my peeps, all right. So
- 7:06Speaker 2: the single most Democrat of the twenty quadrants is postgraduate degree.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So not just college. They got a postgraduate degree.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Masters are above and.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Making thirty thousand to sixty thousand a year, and seventy
- 7:21Speaker 2: percent of those folks voted Democrat for president. Now, who
- 7:25Speaker 2: are we talking about. We're talking about a bunch of
- 7:28Speaker 2: entitled kids, many of whom came from wealthy families. They
- 7:33Speaker 2: went to college, they weren't done yet. They went to
- 7:35Speaker 2: grad school. By the way, many of them got worthless
- 7:39Speaker 2: degrees underwater basket weaving, queer theory, and they're like, yes,
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'm expressing my individuality.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It turns out, by the way, don't forget the Taylor
- 7:48Speaker 1: Swift classes they have at the Ivy League schools. Now,
- 7:50Speaker 1: don't forget that's like a master's degree you can get.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Now, it turns out nobody wants to pay you for
- 7:57Speaker 2: queer theory that actually does not earn a paycheck. And
- 8:01Speaker 2: so these are downwardly mobile, over educated, bitter, ideological leftists
- 8:08Speaker 2: who feel like the world owes me something, and damn it,
- 8:10Speaker 2: I'm mad. Now, do you know what the single most
- 8:13Speaker 2: Republican contingent of the twenty quadrants was?
- 8:16Speaker 3: What was that?
- 8:18Speaker 2: High school or less interesting? Sixty thousand to one hundred thousand,
- 8:25Speaker 2: and sixty one percent of them vote Republican. Only thirty
- 8:30Speaker 2: nine percent vote Democrat. By the way, high school or
- 8:33Speaker 2: less one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand is forty
- 8:35Speaker 2: percent Democrat, and high school or less two hundred thousand
- 8:39Speaker 2: and more is forty one percent Democrat. So high school
- 8:42Speaker 2: or less you're out working and succeeding. That is the
- 8:45Speaker 2: base of today's Republican party. Actually, Republicans win every income
- 8:50Speaker 2: level from thirty thousand all the way up. So if
- 8:53Speaker 2: you run down the high school or less less than
- 8:56Speaker 2: thirty thousand, Democrats narrowly win. It's fifty one to forty nine,
- 9:00Speaker 2: so it's almost a tie. Making less than thirty thousand,
- 9:04Speaker 2: thirty to sixty thousand, Democrats get forty three percent. Sixty
- 9:08Speaker 2: to one hundred thousand, Democrats get thirty nine percent, one
- 9:11Speaker 2: hundred to two hundred thousand democrats get forty percent, and
- 9:13Speaker 2: over two hundred thousand democrats get forty one percent. So
- 9:17Speaker 2: if you only have a high school degree or less,
- 9:21Speaker 2: you're voting Republican.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Why.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Because we're the party of jobs. We're the party of
- 9:25Speaker 2: regular people. We're the party of people that actually go
- 9:28Speaker 2: out and work and have calluses on their hands. That's
- 9:30Speaker 2: what we're doing.
- 9:31Speaker 1: We're the party of sanity, where we believe men or
- 9:32Speaker 1: men and women are women.
- 9:33Speaker 2: And by the way, we believe women exist. It's not
- 9:38Speaker 2: even we believe women are women, like these crazy woke
- 9:42Speaker 2: radicals don't believe there's such a thing as a woman.
- 9:45Speaker 1: No, they don't. And this goes back by the way,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and I want to pause here because I think it's
- 9:49Speaker 1: important to bring this in to perspective. When you worked
- 9:52Speaker 1: hard to push the legislation for no tax on tips
- 9:55Speaker 1: and no tax on overtime and also no taxing, this
- 10:00Speaker 1: is security like all of those things that Donald Trump
- 10:03Speaker 1: was talking about America. First, you were pushing this legislation
- 10:06Speaker 1: very very hard and leading it through the Senate. That
- 10:10Speaker 1: explains also a lot about where the ball has moved
- 10:13Speaker 1: as well. Yes, the Republican Party was the one that
- 10:16Speaker 1: came up with this and Donald Trump, not the Democrats.
- 10:19Speaker 1: By the way, Democrats fought against it. Remind people how
- 10:22Speaker 1: they voted on that issue.
- 10:23Speaker 2: So listen on no tax on tips, I'm the author
- 10:26Speaker 2: of that. I wrote the legislation that has no tax
- 10:28Speaker 2: on tips. When I'm at a restaurant, I'll often tell
- 10:32Speaker 2: the waiter and waitresses, Hey, by the way, how do
- 10:34Speaker 2: you like no tax on tips? They all love it.
- 10:37Speaker 2: The average deduction is over seven grand. You want to
- 10:40Speaker 2: talk about like a single mom waiting tables, that's real
- 10:43Speaker 2: money in her pocket for her kids. When I'm at
- 10:46Speaker 2: when I'm getting like my haircut at the barbers, like
- 10:48Speaker 2: my barbers are giving them a high five, saying thank you.
- 10:52Speaker 2: That is That has always been my base. But that's
- 10:55Speaker 2: the base of the Republican Party. You contrast that to
- 11:00Speaker 2: the educational line. That is, most Democrat are people with
- 11:03Speaker 2: postgraduate degrees and postgraduate degrees making less than thirty thousand,
- 11:09Speaker 2: they vote sixty seven percent Democrat. Thirty thousand to sixty thousand,
- 11:14Speaker 2: they vote seventy percent Democrat. The single most Democrat. Of
- 11:18Speaker 2: all twenty quadrants, postgraduate degree making sixty thousand to one
- 11:22Speaker 2: hundred thousand, they vote sixty five percent Democrat. Postgraduate degree
- 11:26Speaker 2: making one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand, they they
- 11:29Speaker 2: vote sixty five percent Democrat. And postgraduate degree making more
- 11:32Speaker 2: than two hundred thousand, they vote sixty six percent Democrats.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So if you have a and by the way, I've
- 11:39Speaker 2: got a law degree, so apparently I did not learn
- 11:44Speaker 2: the indoctrination that I was supposed to learn going to
- 11:48Speaker 2: college and law school. And by the way, the college
- 11:50Speaker 2: numbers are not much better if you go to college.
- 11:52Speaker 2: And Ben, I'm sorry to tell you this is not
- 11:55Speaker 2: broken out. Did you go to Harvard? This is did
- 11:58Speaker 2: you go to college, went to Ole Miss. Yeah, those
- 12:02Speaker 2: numbers are there too. Everyone with a college degree is
- 12:06Speaker 2: a majority voting Democrat right now. And I think the
- 12:10Speaker 2: ideological indoctrination from colleges amlay is a big, big part
- 12:16Speaker 2: of this well.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And it's not just college. It's also happening in our
- 12:21Speaker 1: public schools at all levels. You see it in the
- 12:24Speaker 1: indoctrination elementary schools. You see this in the doctrination we've
- 12:27Speaker 1: seen with the gay Pride days, and the indoctrination of
- 12:31Speaker 1: those types of scenarios and men and women's locker room,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and boys and girls or girls and boys sports like
- 12:36Speaker 1: the indoctrination in the elementary and the middle and the
- 12:39Speaker 1: high school is just as bad. The unions have taken
- 12:44Speaker 1: that space over. They are using it is a ground
- 12:49Speaker 1: to prey on kids' minds, to get them to believe
- 12:51Speaker 1: that somehow America and democracy and capitalism is genuinely evil.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And if you tell them that for twelve years, then
- 12:59Speaker 1: send them to college and you indoctrinate them again. Now
- 13:02Speaker 1: we're witnessing what happens.
- 13:05Speaker 2: And by the way, that's a big part of the
- 13:06Speaker 2: reason why last year I also authored the biggest school
- 13:10Speaker 2: choice bill in American history that is going to help
- 13:12Speaker 2: millions of kids getting out out of failing schools and
- 13:14Speaker 2: getting good education, and why I also authored the Trump Accounts,
- 13:19Speaker 2: which is going to create a whole new generation of
- 13:21Speaker 2: capitalists as our kids become invested in the stock markets
- 13:25Speaker 2: and owners of the biggest employers in America. Let me
- 13:29Speaker 2: tell you what Nate Silver wrote. Look, Nate Silver is
- 13:31Speaker 2: this writer who is not a conservative. He's left of center.
- 13:36Speaker 2: But here's what he writes, quote, what is the most
- 13:39Speaker 2: democratic voting group in America? It's voters with postgraduate degrees
- 13:45Speaker 2: but lowered a middle household incomes of thirty thousand to
- 13:48Speaker 2: sixty thousand per year. This is very much also the
- 13:53Speaker 2: sweet spot for the DSA. In the group's most recent
- 13:59Speaker 2: member in twenty twenty one, eighty percent of members, this
- 14:04Speaker 2: is of the DSA, of the crazy letling Marxists aged
- 14:07Speaker 2: twenty five or older had bachelor's degrees. Wow, but forty
- 14:13Speaker 2: five percent had household incomes below sixty thousand per year.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And so listen. Part of this is these are young knuckleheads,
- 14:23Speaker 2: many of them growing up with wealth, some with trust funds,
- 14:28Speaker 2: who were told to go to school, and nobody actually said, hey,
- 14:31Speaker 2: when you go to school, if you're going to go
- 14:32Speaker 2: to college, maybe you ought to study something that you
- 14:35Speaker 2: could get a job that you could produce something of value.
- 14:39Speaker 2: And the concept of I want to provide for my family,
- 14:44Speaker 2: so I want to do something that's valuable. Look, a
- 14:46Speaker 2: plumber does something of value, a cop does something of value,
- 14:52Speaker 2: a teacher does something of value, aed doctor does something
- 14:56Speaker 2: of value, a nurse does something of value. And yet
- 15:00Speaker 2: these left wing radicals were told you don't need to
- 15:03Speaker 2: actually study something that can produce a good or service.
- 15:08Speaker 2: People want you should just gaze at your navel and
- 15:13Speaker 2: engage in political rantings and ratings and so. Part of
- 15:18Speaker 2: the reason why they become communists is they think the
- 15:21Speaker 2: world owes them a living that they can't actually produce
- 15:24Speaker 2: anything valuable. You know, if you're out digging ditches, that's valuable.
- 15:29Speaker 2: A high school graduate is out getting work as a
- 15:31Speaker 2: construction worker knows if I want to get paid, I
- 15:34Speaker 2: got to go out and put up put up sheet rock.
- 15:36Speaker 2: That is a big, big difference.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Senata, I want to move to this education bill that
- 15:42Speaker 1: is so important that you have been working on. Explain
- 15:47Speaker 1: what this bill is, why it's important right now, and
- 15:51Speaker 1: why Americans should be paying attention to it.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, you talked a minute ago about how one
- 15:57Speaker 2: of the reasons why we're having young people, particularly young
- 16:01Speaker 2: people who stay in the education system for a long time,
- 16:04Speaker 2: gets so radicalized, so left wing, so America hating, so capitalism, hating,
- 16:09Speaker 2: so communism embracing is because our education system is broken.
- 16:14Speaker 2: And that's certainly true at the university level, particularly the
- 16:17Speaker 2: so called elite universities. But it is also true in
- 16:21Speaker 2: K through twelve. And one consequence of K through twelve
- 16:25Speaker 2: getting radicalized is that it drives the politics crazy left.
- 16:29Speaker 2: But another consequence is they failed in their basic job
- 16:32Speaker 2: of teaching. And you know, you used to go and
- 16:35Speaker 2: learn the three r's, reading, writing, and arithmetic, And I
- 16:38Speaker 2: mean that used to be like the core of what
- 16:40Speaker 2: you were learning. Yeah, if you look.
- 16:43Speaker 3: At a novel idea. By the way, what a novel idea?
- 16:45Speaker 1: You go to school to learn to read, writing into arithmetic, Like,
- 16:48Speaker 1: isn't that amazing that someone came up with that curriculum
- 16:51Speaker 1: one day and then we just decided to abandon it right.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Well, and there is a literacy crisis. The numbers of
- 16:58Speaker 2: students coming out of scho who can't read, who don't
- 17:02Speaker 2: have the ability to read, is staggering. I'm gonna give
- 17:04Speaker 2: you some of the stats. So in twenty twenty four,
- 17:08Speaker 2: the National Assessment of Educational Progress what's called the NAPE,
- 17:12Speaker 2: the Reading Assessment, showed that thirty three percent of eighth
- 17:17Speaker 2: graders are reading at a level that is quote below basic.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Thirty three percent. A third of eighth graders can't read
- 17:26Speaker 2: at even the barest minimum of levels. For twelfth graders,
- 17:31Speaker 2: the average reading scores were three points lower than in
- 17:35Speaker 2: twenty nineteen and ten point points lower than in nineteen
- 17:40Speaker 2: ninety two. So it is a staggering crisis. And one
- 17:46Speaker 2: of the big reasons for that it is that you've
- 17:49Speaker 2: had left wing radicals takeover teachers, colleges, education programs, the teachers' unions,
- 17:55Speaker 2: and they've moved away from what actually works. They've adopted
- 18:01Speaker 2: an approach to reading that is called three quing. So
- 18:06Speaker 2: three quing it is something that uses context and pictures
- 18:12Speaker 2: and sentence structures rather than phonics. Look, when I learned
- 18:16Speaker 2: to read, we learned phonics. We would diagram sentences. Phonics works,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and you know what we now know three quing does not.
- 18:25Speaker 2: It's a disaster and it's produced terrible results. So a
- 18:29Speaker 2: number of states Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas,
- 18:34Speaker 2: West Virginia, and Wisconsin have all banned teaching three qing
- 18:38Speaker 2: because the data are terrible. It fails to teach kids
- 18:42Speaker 2: to read. What is amazing, though, is a number of
- 18:46Speaker 2: schools instead have focused on what's called the science of reading,
- 18:52Speaker 2: which is going back to phonics, going back to the
- 18:55Speaker 2: basics of teaching reading, and the results have been staggering.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And there's something called all right, you're an old miss
- 19:01Speaker 2: grad you're gonna like this. There's something called the Mississippi miracle.
- 19:07Speaker 3: So love this already, keep singing this song. I'm ready.
- 19:12Speaker 2: In twenty thirteen, Mississippi's reading numbers were not good. Mississippi
- 19:17Speaker 2: was forty ninth in the nation on the national assessments
- 19:21Speaker 2: and reading. They began then going in on the science
- 19:26Speaker 2: of reading and vigorously teaching phonics, and Mississippi has risen
- 19:30Speaker 2: from forty nine in the country to a top ten
- 19:34Speaker 2: state in the country in fourth grade reading achievement. By
- 19:39Speaker 2: the way, it wasn't money that did it, it was
- 19:42Speaker 2: actually teaching what works. Alabama, by the way, did the
- 19:46Speaker 2: same thing. They moved from forty ninth to thirty fourth Louisiana.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Louisiana moved from forty ninth to thirty seconds. And here's
- 19:56Speaker 2: what the New York Times said, You're gonna like this.
- 20:00Speaker 2: York Times said in twenty nineteen, Blue states had better
- 20:02Speaker 2: average test scores than Red states after adjusting for democraphics.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Now Red states are mostly ahead. That's the New York Times.
- 20:11Speaker 2: And so what happened on this legislation is I introduced
- 20:15Speaker 2: legislation this week that takes the existing federal grants that
- 20:18Speaker 2: go to education. There's a pretty big funding stream from
- 20:21Speaker 2: the federal government to states for education and the reading funds.
- 20:26Speaker 2: The legislation I introduced said, if you want to get
- 20:29Speaker 2: those reading funds, you have to use the reading methods
- 20:34Speaker 2: that are demonstrated empirically to work. You have to have
- 20:39Speaker 2: what actually works and what the data shows work. You
- 20:42Speaker 2: can't teach this garbage that results in kids not learning.
- 20:46Speaker 2: You've got to use the empirically successful methods.
- 20:50Speaker 3: And what's interesting, by the way, who's against this bill?
- 20:53Speaker 1: Because if you have the data you just mentioned there
- 20:56Speaker 1: showing where this is working, you would think this would
- 20:59Speaker 1: be by part is.
- 21:01Speaker 2: So it actually is. So. I introduced this bill with
- 21:04Speaker 2: Brian Shotts. Brian Shotts is a Democrat. He's from Hawaii.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Interestingly enough, Brian is widely considered the next Democrat leader
- 21:13Speaker 2: in the Senate. He's widely considered the most likely successor
- 21:16Speaker 2: to Chuck Schumer. And Brian I know well. He's a
- 21:20Speaker 2: friend of mine. He's on the Commerce Committee with me.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I'm the chairman of the Commerce Committee. He and I
- 21:24Speaker 2: have done a number of bills together, and look, would
- 21:27Speaker 2: you talk with Brian. He's a Democrat, so he can
- 21:30Speaker 2: be left wing on a lot of issues, but one
- 21:33Speaker 2: on one he can be quite reasonable. As you know,
- 21:35Speaker 2: I play hoops every week. Brian's come out several times
- 21:37Speaker 2: and played hoops with me. I mean, he's and I'm
- 21:40Speaker 2: going to say something that's going to surprise you. This
- 21:43Speaker 2: bill was his idea.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Really. He came to me.
- 21:48Speaker 2: He came to me on the Senate floor and he said, Ted,
- 21:50Speaker 2: have you seen the data from Mississippi and the Mississippi
- 21:55Speaker 2: Miracle and the incredible reading scores that are coming out
- 21:57Speaker 2: of Mississippi. And by the way, this doesn't have and
- 22:00Speaker 2: often Democrats don't praise red states that often. And I said, yeah,
- 22:05Speaker 2: I have. It's fantastic. And he said, what do you
- 22:07Speaker 2: think about us joining together to draft legislation that would
- 22:11Speaker 2: require if you're going to get the federal funds that
- 22:13Speaker 2: are going for literacy, you've got to teach using the
- 22:17Speaker 2: reading methods that the data show actually produced results. And
- 22:21Speaker 2: I said, I think that'd be fantastic. I'm a huge
- 22:24Speaker 2: fan of phonics. I don't like these woke teaching methods
- 22:28Speaker 2: that are just a failure and a disaster, and it's
- 22:31Speaker 2: interesting my team. I went to them and so I said, hey,
- 22:33Speaker 2: you know, shots pitch doing this, and my team was skeptical.
- 22:37Speaker 2: They said, we don't really believe a Democrat's going to
- 22:39Speaker 2: go along with something that is praising what's working in
- 22:43Speaker 2: red states and, by the way, implicitly criticizing the woke
- 22:48Speaker 2: education policies in many Blue states. To Brian's credit, look,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I mean he we introduced it together. You asked who
- 22:56Speaker 2: opposes it. I will confess it's early enough now that
- 22:59Speaker 2: I don't want to give an answer to that. My assumption,
- 23:02Speaker 2: my assumption is the teachers' unions will oppose it. My
- 23:05Speaker 2: assumption is some of the Blue states will oppose it.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And the sort of woke educrats, the people who are
- 23:12Speaker 2: teaching at the education schools, who are teaching teachers who
- 23:15Speaker 2: are teaching this nonsense that doesn't work. I assume all
- 23:19Speaker 2: those guys will oppose it. But I'll say this, we
- 23:23Speaker 2: just introduced it. I'm going to try to see if
- 23:25Speaker 2: we could move it forward and maybe we get support
- 23:28Speaker 2: for it. I hope we do.
- 23:29Speaker 3: By the way, what do you need when you say
- 23:31Speaker 3: moving forward.
- 23:31Speaker 1: So if people understand, and this is one of the
- 23:34Speaker 1: reasons why I love doing the show, when you say
- 23:36Speaker 1: you're hoping you get the support, what is moving it
- 23:39Speaker 1: forward actually look like in the legislature.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So look, you drop the bill initially. The next step
- 23:45Speaker 2: that we'll work on doing is trying to get other supporters,
- 23:47Speaker 2: trying to get other co sponsors. So I'll reach out
- 23:50Speaker 2: to other Republicans and other Democrats. Brian will reach out
- 23:53Speaker 2: to other Democrats and also Republicans. I'd like to get
- 23:57Speaker 2: a pretty good group of bipartisan coasts sponsors, and there
- 24:00Speaker 2: are number of Democrats that I've worked with on different
- 24:02Speaker 2: bills who and particularly given that it's Brian and me,
- 24:04Speaker 2: we I think we can get other senators to co
- 24:07Speaker 2: sponsor it. So let's say we get a half dozen
- 24:09Speaker 2: urs and a half dozen d's. That starts to be
- 24:12Speaker 2: a bill that's got some real heft to it because
- 24:14Speaker 2: you look, particularly if you've got some ideological diversity. The
- 24:18Speaker 2: bill would go go to to committee. At first, I
- 24:25Speaker 2: assume this would go to what's called the HELP Committee,
- 24:27Speaker 2: which is the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. So
- 24:30Speaker 2: the first step is to get the committee to mark
- 24:33Speaker 2: it up, will work to get more by more sponsors,
- 24:37Speaker 2: to get a bigger coalition behind it, and then I'll
- 24:40Speaker 2: go to the chairman of that committee, that's Bill Cassidy,
- 24:43Speaker 2: and ask him to mark it up, which is for
- 24:45Speaker 2: the committee to take it up and pass it. And
- 24:47Speaker 2: we've got if we've got a good enough coalition behind it,
- 24:49Speaker 2: we've got a real chance at that once it gets
- 24:52Speaker 2: out of committee. There are a couple of paths you
- 24:54Speaker 2: can take to passing it. One path is to try
- 24:57Speaker 2: to pass it by unanimous consents. Now I've passed a
- 25:01Speaker 2: lot by unanimous consent. If you do the work and
- 25:03Speaker 2: build the coalition, you can get things done that way.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But a single senator can object, So I don't know
- 25:10Speaker 2: right now if this is possible. You may have an
- 25:12Speaker 2: Elizabeth Warren or someone on the far left who objects
- 25:15Speaker 2: to this. Uh. The other way to pass it is
- 25:19Speaker 2: to attach it to another vehicle that is moving another
- 25:23Speaker 2: bill that is being passed, to put it on that
- 25:26Speaker 2: And and so we've got some time to get there.
- 25:28Speaker 2: We've got to build the coalition, we've got to get
- 25:30Speaker 2: it out of committee. We've got to get it teed
- 25:32Speaker 2: up where it's at a position to then try to
- 25:35Speaker 2: pass it, and then when you get out of the Senate,
- 25:36Speaker 2: then you try to pass it in the House, and
- 25:39Speaker 2: I'm confident the President would sign it. So we are
- 25:41Speaker 2: early in that process. But I'm encouraged to see that
- 25:45Speaker 2: that that we're able to get a Democrat and Republican
- 25:48Speaker 2: working together saying, look, we really got to teach our
- 25:51Speaker 2: kids to read.
- 25:52Speaker 3: That's it should.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It should be one hundred to one in my opinion,
- 25:55Speaker 1: teaching kids to read that should it might be a
- 25:57Speaker 1: problem and it might be center. We got two big
- 26:00Speaker 1: things I want to make sure we get in the show.
- 26:02Speaker 1: One of them deals with Mandani. He's now taking heat
- 26:05Speaker 1: from the extreme left because he gave them this story
- 26:09Speaker 1: that he was going to arrest in net Nyahu. He
- 26:11Speaker 1: did say in his video, as he's now taking those
- 26:14Speaker 1: words back, that he believes that Bibi Netnyahu is a
- 26:17Speaker 1: war criminal and should be arrested in America, should get
- 26:20Speaker 1: on board with the international court.
- 26:22Speaker 3: YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 26:23Speaker 1: But he's now taking heat because people feel like they
- 26:25Speaker 1: he lied to them. They were expecting that he was
- 26:28Speaker 1: going to walk up to Bibie and I guess arrest
- 26:30Speaker 1: them himself.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Well, look, We were talking a minute ago about the
- 26:33Speaker 2: consequences of woke, left wing radicalized education both K through
- 26:38Speaker 2: twelve in college. We're seeing the fruits of that, sadly,
- 26:42Speaker 2: especially in New York City and in New Jersey. In
- 26:45Speaker 2: New York City, Comrade Mondani is a Marxist and an Islamist.
- 26:49Speaker 2: He is a perfect example of the Green Red alliance,
- 26:52Speaker 2: and he is extreme, and we saw some of the
- 26:55Speaker 2: tragic consequences. This week. We had a Jewish man and
- 26:58Speaker 2: an Asian man who were ab outside Central Park by
- 27:02Speaker 2: an attacker who yelled Allahu Akbar as he was stabbing them. Now,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I will say, all the press coverage described this as
- 27:12Speaker 2: a possible hate crime. Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not
- 27:16Speaker 2: sure why you need the word possible. When you yell
- 27:19Speaker 2: Allahu akbar, that that tells you exactly what you're doing.
- 27:23Speaker 2: And this happens the same week that Comrade Bondami put
- 27:28Speaker 2: out a video pledging that if if Benjamin Netanyahu, the
- 27:31Speaker 2: Prime Minister, the elected Prime Minister of Israel, comes to
- 27:34Speaker 2: the United Nations to give a speech, that he intends
- 27:37Speaker 2: to arrest net Yahoo because net yaho Is is a
- 27:42Speaker 2: war criminal. That's part of the talking points of the left.
- 27:44Speaker 2: And look, understand the left right now, they hate Israel
- 27:48Speaker 2: and they hate Jews. And to be clear, when they're
- 27:50Speaker 2: attacking Net and Yaho and they're attacking Israel, that's a
- 27:53Speaker 2: proxy they hate Jews. They hate American Jews too. Uh.
- 27:56Speaker 2: There is a reason you see violence against Jews, particularly
- 27:59Speaker 2: in places where you have rhetoric like what Mandami does,
- 28:01Speaker 2: because that's what they're saying. Now. What's interesting is is
- 28:06Speaker 2: Mandami said he was going to arrest Net and Yahoo
- 28:08Speaker 2: and then almost immediately pivoted and reversed and said never mind.
- 28:13Speaker 2: And I assume that is because the Trump administration made
- 28:16Speaker 2: very clear if you try to do this, federal officers
- 28:21Speaker 2: will intervene, they will stop you, and you will face
- 28:25Speaker 2: federal consequences. It is illegal. You have no authority. Now,
- 28:28Speaker 2: his claim basis for the arrest was the International Criminal
- 28:32Speaker 2: Court has indicted Net and Yahoo for what they call
- 28:35Speaker 2: war crimes. Now understand the International Criminal by the way,
- 28:39Speaker 2: it is a radical left wing Israel hating America, hating
- 28:44Speaker 2: disaster of an institution. And America is not a party
- 28:49Speaker 2: to the ICC. We've refused to be a part of
- 28:51Speaker 2: it because the ICC hates us. And and the ICC
- 28:56Speaker 2: hates Israel. And and in fact, Congress passed a law
- 29:00Speaker 2: called the American Service Members Protection Act, where state and
- 29:04Speaker 2: local governments in the United States are explicitly barred by
- 29:08Speaker 2: federal law from cooperating with the ICC because they are
- 29:12Speaker 2: so Look, the same lunatics who've indicted Benjamin Ett Yahoo
- 29:16Speaker 2: would happily indict Donald Trump, and would happily indict our
- 29:19Speaker 2: soldiers on the ground defending Americas. And so Israel is
- 29:23Speaker 2: not a party of the ICC because they're they're they're
- 29:25Speaker 2: a radical and biased group. And America is not a
- 29:28Speaker 2: party of the ICC. And and so Mandami backed away
- 29:32Speaker 2: because I think I assume, as lawyers told him, if
- 29:36Speaker 2: you try to do this, you will see federal officers
- 29:40Speaker 2: come in and stop you. You may face direct federal consequences,
- 29:45Speaker 2: including potentially being arrested by the Feds, And you will
- 29:49Speaker 2: certainly face legal liability in the city of New York
- 29:53Speaker 2: will be sued for a ginormous amount of money if
- 29:56Speaker 2: you try to do this, and and and and he
- 29:57Speaker 2: backed away. Now at the same time, New York is saying,
- 30:01Speaker 2: if the elected Prime Minister of Israel comes to the city,
- 30:04Speaker 2: we're going to arrest you what happens in New Jersey.
- 30:08Speaker 1: By the way, this is truly an incredible story. Get Ready,
- 30:11Speaker 1: I love the excuse from the New Jersey governor as
- 30:14Speaker 1: she just put it out in a tweet. Oh, we accidentally,
- 30:18Speaker 1: but it was a computer glitch. Uh yeah, we registered
- 30:22Speaker 1: a bunch of thousands of illegals, over six thousand, six
- 30:25Speaker 1: hundred legal immigrants and then oh yeah, by the way,
- 30:28Speaker 1: some of them actually voted. But don't worry. This is
- 30:31Speaker 1: all Donald Trump's fault somehow, and not our fault. And
- 30:34Speaker 1: it wasn't even my fault. It was the former governor
- 30:37Speaker 1: of New Jersey administration that allowed this to happen. So really,
- 30:40Speaker 1: it's not my problem at all. Just put it out
- 30:43Speaker 1: there in a tweet.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Well, and look, of course it's all Trump's fault, because
- 30:47Speaker 2: everything in the world is Trump's fault for a radical Democrat.
- 30:50Speaker 2: But listen here here's how Fox News reported what happened. Quote,
- 30:54Speaker 2: New Jersey removed six thousand, six hundred people from voter
- 30:58Speaker 2: rolls who were eligible to cast say ballot for the
- 31:01Speaker 2: twenty twenty four election. These thousands of non citizens were
- 31:06Speaker 2: registered to vote between June of twenty twenty three and
- 31:09Speaker 2: June of twenty twenty four, ahead of the last presidential election.
- 31:13Speaker 2: New Jersey Governor Mickey Cheryl announced Tuesday that the state
- 31:16Speaker 2: had removed roughly six six hundred non citizens from its
- 31:19Speaker 2: voter rolls who would have been eligible to vote in
- 31:22Speaker 2: the twenty twenty four presidential election. Cheryl, a Democrat, said
- 31:28Speaker 2: there was a quote serious software error in New Jersey's
- 31:32Speaker 2: motor vehicle system that led to thousands of people without
- 31:36Speaker 2: legal status being registered to vote between twenty twenty three
- 31:41Speaker 2: and twenty twenty four.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Quote.
- 31:43Speaker 2: In the case of this error, some individuals indicated they
- 31:46Speaker 2: weren't citizens and weren't eligible to vote, but the software
- 31:49Speaker 2: registered them anyway. The error in the software was corrected
- 31:53Speaker 2: a year later in June of twenty twenty four. Now, look,
- 31:57Speaker 2: if you listen to Democrats, if you listen to the media,
- 32:00Speaker 2: I repeat myself, you would say, okay, it doesn't matter
- 32:02Speaker 2: that they were registered, because it never, ever, ever happens
- 32:06Speaker 2: that illegal aliens vote in federal elections. Well, according to
- 32:11Speaker 2: the state's preliminary findings, fewer than four hundred individuals who
- 32:16Speaker 2: were improperly registered ended up voting. That means you had
- 32:20Speaker 2: about four hundred people show utible. They were illegal aliens,
- 32:25Speaker 2: they were not citizens, and they voted. They actually cast
- 32:29Speaker 2: a vote. Cheryl said. They lived all across the state
- 32:32Speaker 2: and mostly lacked a party affiliation. Understand, Look, this is
- 32:38Speaker 2: something And by the way, this is not just happening
- 32:41Speaker 2: in New Jersey. This is happening in New York. It's
- 32:44Speaker 2: happening in California. It's happening in every state of the country.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Now in red states where you have Republicans who are
- 32:50Speaker 2: actually committed to the rule of law, law enforcement is
- 32:53Speaker 2: working to prevent illegal aliens from being registered, to prosecute
- 32:57Speaker 2: them if they try to vote illegally, to require voter
- 33:00Speaker 2: ID before you vote. That's the Save America Act, which
- 33:03Speaker 2: would make this a national requirement. Look, the Save America
- 33:06Speaker 2: Act means that these individuals would not have been registered
- 33:09Speaker 2: to vote. But the Democrats, every one of them, is
- 33:13Speaker 2: opposing the Save America Act. And this is the absolute
- 33:18Speaker 2: gall of the elected Democrats in New Jersey to blame Trump.
- 33:23Speaker 2: This is all Trump's fault that there is a level
- 33:26Speaker 2: of dishonesty. Today's Democrat party has decided voter fraud is
- 33:33Speaker 2: good for it politically. It benefits Democrats fraud benefits Democrats,
- 33:38Speaker 2: and so Democrats in Congress, any measure to prevent fraud
- 33:43Speaker 2: they oppose. And it's a lot of why we are
- 33:46Speaker 2: where we are now. Look, I think California they may
- 33:48Speaker 2: still be counting the ballots from the last election because
- 33:52Speaker 2: it's such an absolute joke. What's going on there.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is incredible. Yeah, it really is incredible.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Don't forget, by the way, we do this show. If
- 34:02Speaker 1: you're listening on radio stations right now, we do this
- 34:04Speaker 1: show three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and you
- 34:07Speaker 1: don't want to miss an episode, especially when we're talking
- 34:09Speaker 1: like important issues.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Like these today.
- 34:12Speaker 1: So download Vertic with Tech Cruse wherever you get your podcasts,
- 34:16Speaker 1: and if you like watching the show, you can also
- 34:18Speaker 1: watch on YouTube. You can just put in Vertic with
