- 0:00Welcome back to another edition of the Beef Forever Cool
- 0:01podcast. My name is Rex 45.
- 0:04And then this evening I have a young man on that we don't get
- 0:07to talk to and get to hear his story.
- 0:09I'm pretty excited to to chop it up with him and, and, and see
- 0:14how he got into racing. I was fortunate to meet him on
- 0:17connect with him on on IG and I and I see he's racing and stuff
- 0:21like that. So I'm I'm very curious and, and
- 0:23see how he got into it and all that fun stuff.
- 0:25So with no further ado, let's get this thing rolling.
- 0:29Welcome to the show Kaden Kaden Brown, how you doing to this
- 0:32evening? I'm good, I'm good.
- 0:34How are you? Likewise, man, I can't complain.
- 0:38You know, it's, I mean, you're a lot younger than I am, so.
- 0:41But you know, the, the I'm, I'm sure you're pretty motivated.
- 0:44So every day you're getting up and you got, you got a fire in
- 0:47you. So I, I still got the fire on
- 0:49me, so you know what I mean? So, so also man.
- 0:55So welcome to the show. So yeah, man, let's talk about,
- 0:57you know, how you got into writing.
- 0:59What was your first memory? You know, for me, I got into
- 1:03riding a lot, a lot later in life, a lot older than you, but
- 1:07about in 2012. So I guess like 14 years now
- 1:10I've been riding and stuff like that might be similar depending
- 1:14on what you say. So like when when did you start
- 1:18riding and. So I started riding when I was 4
- 1:22which is 2014. I got my parents got me APP dub
- 1:2850. Yeah.
- 1:29And I rode that for a while, not really competitively.
- 1:34I didn't start getting into competitive dirt bike racing
- 1:38till I was 7. Yeah, I did some races, try to
- 1:44go national and stuff. I wasn't super successful in
- 1:47dirt bike riding, but I I started getting hurt a lot.
- 1:54Yeah, so. So you got the P, you got the
- 1:57the P Dub 50 as you called it. Like, I mean, did you like, you
- 2:02know, like what state do you live in?
- 2:04Were you like riding through the neighborhoods?
- 2:06Did you, were you able to go to like a open field and learn how
- 2:09to ride? Like what was that like?
- 2:12So I believe we got in Virginia and we lived kind of next to
- 2:18this, like open field. And I just rode around in the
- 2:20field just messing around on it, getting used to bikes.
- 2:28Yeah. Well, my, my parents were
- 2:29military, so we moved a lot. We moved to Belgium.
- 2:34I don't really remember how old that was.
- 2:37And they got me a 50 or KTM 50. And I started riding that at
- 2:45like actual tracks and stuff. Right, right in Belgium.
- 2:48Yeah, that was fun. It the weather over there, it
- 2:51was from what I remember, it was really rainy, cloudy, yeah,
- 2:55yeah. But yeah, that that built me
- 2:59towards when I started racing competitively.
- 3:03We moved over to North Carolina and my dad bought me a 65 and it
- 3:11was AK team. It was a beater bike.
- 3:14We went to my first race. The track was called Half Moon
- 3:17MX. Believe it or not, I won my
- 3:21first race. That's pretty cool.
- 3:24Yeah. So now did you?
- 3:25Did you? Does your dad or your mom ride?
- 3:28So my dad, he's been riding since he, I don't know, for
- 3:32forever. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:34So my, my dad ride. My mom knows how to ride.
- 3:37She doesn't really ride though. Got you, got you.
- 3:39And, and, and so like what was the thing that made you like, I
- 3:43mean, I guess just cause your dad rode and stuff like that?
- 3:45Like, like, was there a thing that you said, OK, I'm riding,
- 3:48you have to track now I want to go race or it's just like from
- 3:50day one you just wanted to go race?
- 3:53I think it was from day one, watching my dad, watching it,
- 3:56watching races with him, stuff like that just kind of, you
- 4:00know, gave me that that bite to want to ride so right.
- 4:03Right, right. So, OK, so he's nice.
- 4:08OK, so now age 7, you're you're racing dirt bikes and you won
- 4:13your first race. I mean, I mean, like, do you do
- 4:15you remember what that feeling is like?
- 4:17I mean, because you you now, I mean you, you're 15.
- 4:19So you got like 7-8 years of racing under your belt?
- 4:24That it was really good. I I was super excited.
- 4:27It took me a minute to process like first race, I'm on a beater
- 4:31bike. I won so to call my trophy.
- 4:36And then from there we just, we are riding a lot.
- 4:40We moved out, we lived on the middle of nowhere.
- 4:45We have like 15 acres of land and we, we built a track on it.
- 4:49But the first time we built it, he, my dad took his riding lawn
- 4:52mower and he dropped, he dropped the deck all the way down and he
- 4:58just drove around, made a little track and I was riding on that
- 5:03and he brought in some like dirt.
- 5:05It was terrible. I'm going to be honest.
- 5:07It was a lot of rocks and stuff in it.
- 5:09We made 2 little jumps. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:12And just having fun. And then we actually, we
- 5:16actually started building stuff. We had a guy that we knew can
- 5:19come out and build it. Yeah.
- 5:20Yeah. And I was super stoked about
- 5:22that. At the time.
- 5:23I was getting in a lot of trouble at school.
- 5:25I'm going to be honest about that.
- 5:26OK, OK. I'm just experimenting.
- 5:29I guess I was immature young. You're still 15, but yeah, sure,
- 5:36I'm mature, young. I'll go with that.
- 5:38Younger than I was before, I wasn't as mature so.
- 5:42No, like, like, like, I mean, if you can see on camera, but like
- 5:44what kind of trouble, you know, Normal kid stuff, I assume.
- 5:48Yeah, just talking in class. Yeah, getting in fights, like
- 5:54just little stuff you do as kids.
- 5:58Yeah, yeah, no. And I I get, I get that.
- 6:00And it's around that age that that happened.
- 6:02So so now you're mature and no longer talking in class, no
- 6:05longer getting in fights and, and, and you and you're racing.
- 6:08So you know, you, you mentioned, you know, being on on, on the 15
- 6:12acres and, and having that track and, and so I mean, is that
- 6:15like, I mean, were you like riding every day pretty much at
- 6:17that point since you could? Yeah, I did ride a lot since it
- 6:23was in my, like, my front yard. I'd go home, I'd do the work,
- 6:28and then I wait for my dad to get home and stuff because he
- 6:30don't want me riding by myself because something would have
- 6:33happened, right? Yeah.
- 6:35And I'd ride, be trained. I've had my friends come over
- 6:40after we'd like, actually built the track up.
- 6:43It was just fun times out there. Some of it's on my Instagram.
- 6:46Yeah, OK. Yeah, and then I started getting
- 6:51hurt. I broke my thumb.
- 6:52One crash, I fully recovered and everything I went back for my
- 6:57first race back at this track called E Bin and it's starting
- 7:01gates with motocross. So we all came off the line same
- 7:03time, all even and I was on the inside and the kid came from the
- 7:09outside and kind of chopped my nose off trying to get to the
- 7:11inside right. And that this was after like a
- 7:14whole day of practicing. Oh yeah, After a whole day of
- 7:17practicing, like there's we get breaking bumps and I got on the
- 7:24brakes a little too hard and I came, my nose came up and my
- 7:29bars chopped to the side and it hit me in my stomach knocked.
- 7:33The wind out of you. Yeah, well, knocked the wind out
- 7:36of me. I lacerated my spleen, I had
- 7:39blood in my pelvis, and I bruised my colon.
- 7:42Oh man, we're, we're like, we're like twins.
- 7:44I lacerated my spleen in 2018. You know what?
- 7:47That means. Yeah.
- 7:50That's. That was not a good feeling.
- 7:52I was in the hospital for, I think, about a week.
- 7:55Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I did 9 days.
- 7:59So yeah, I hear you. Wow.
- 8:04And so do you. Do you remember a lot of the
- 8:06accident or was it, I mean, I know for me, I like, I was
- 8:11fortunate that at the time I was living in Boston and, and it
- 8:14happened very close to a trauma hospital.
- 8:17And I think, and I think I was fortunate for me and I was on
- 8:19the streets when it happened for me.
- 8:20But I mean, at the track I got EMT and everything there.
- 8:23So I mean, I mean, I assume they they got to you right away.
- 8:27Yeah, they got to me as quick as as possible, you know, because
- 8:30they got to stop the race, get everybody off before they can go
- 8:32out there. Yeah, they got me back in the
- 8:37the ambulance and it's kind of disturbing.
- 8:39But before that race, I ate lunch and I had a purple
- 8:44Gatorade and a hot dog. I got in the ambulance and
- 8:48because it hit me so out of my stomach, I took my helmet off
- 8:50and everything. I was crying and I threw up on
- 8:53the bed. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:55Oh, dude, that's that same. I mean, I, I was at the hospital
- 8:58when it happened to me, but they were like, they'll Get Me Out of
- 9:00my gear and the same thing like. It was, it was terrible.
- 9:05Like I was doing all my gear. They were doing a, they were
- 9:07redoing the race. Whole bunch of noises.
- 9:10My mom was in there. She was trying not to cry.
- 9:12I know at one point I asked her if I was dying because the pain
- 9:15was just so crucial. Yeah.
- 9:17Yeah. Yeah, it was bad, yeah.
- 9:22Then we went to the hospital. We're there for about a week.
- 9:26My dad stayed with me. Yeah.
- 9:28So one member I had from the hot, it was around COVID time,
- 9:31My mom and sister, there was a parking garage right next to my
- 9:34window and they went to the very top, like right next to helipad
- 9:39and they were standing out there and I got to go to the window
- 9:42and say was up to him and stuff. Oh, that's.
- 9:44What's up? So yeah, that was that was
- 9:48really fun. Well, not fun, but it was a good
- 9:52memory to have. Right, yeah.
- 9:54And I mean, and I assume you have changed your diet since
- 9:57because you now you got to eat certain things because not
- 10:00having your spleen, although you know last right now spleen, I
- 10:04don't know if the doctors told you it's like they'd and more
- 10:07likely they probably still parts of your spleen in your body.
- 10:10So there might be a bunch of small parts still in there still
- 10:12doing work so. No, they didn't tell you I was.
- 10:16I was scared. I'm honest.
- 10:18When I went in there, I told him I'm scared.
- 10:20I don't really know. I don't want to know too much
- 10:22technical stuff. Just let me know the borderline
- 10:24and got you. Yeah.
- 10:28So. Yeah, they didn't tell me
- 10:29anything. I mean, I, I just didn't tell
- 10:31me. They they, they, they, they told
- 10:33me they had to operate, but they didn't tell me what was wrong
- 10:36with me. And, and so they were just like,
- 10:39who can we call? Gave them a number and next
- 10:43thing they had to is they put me to sleep.
- 10:46No, I'm I'm glad I didn't have surgery.
- 10:48They said that was an option towards the beginning.
- 10:50OK, I guess it healed or it wasn't too badly damaged.
- 10:55Got you. OK.
- 10:56OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:57I had to have surgery. So that's that's portion it
- 10:59then. So then if it healed, then it's
- 11:01still working. That's awesome.
- 11:05Well, yeah, but so, so you, you know, you, you, you got into
- 11:07this accident on, on, on the dirt.
- 11:10You, you, you had some time to recover and stuff like that.
- 11:13Did you say, OK, I'm getting on the bike and I want to race or
- 11:17did you have some time off? After that, So yeah, I actually
- 11:21took some time because for a while I kind of walked hunched
- 11:23over and stay kind of healed. You know how you're in the
- 11:26hospital bed? You have it sitting up?
- 11:28Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:29I slept like that and I stayed in the bed like that because it
- 11:32was most comfortable. Right.
- 11:34So it healed like that. So when I came out the hospital,
- 11:37I was kind of walking with the hunch in my back.
- 11:40You got you got you. I couldn't really lift nothing.
- 11:43I couldn't strain my back like it just I wasn't in good shape.
- 11:47So I took a a while and bikes are just sitting there and my
- 11:53dad eventually asked me if I still wanted to race and I took
- 11:56some time to think about it and it was hard for me to say I
- 12:00don't want to anymore. Right, right.
- 12:02No, I hate. It like I didn't want to
- 12:04directly tell him, but I kind of just, you know what I mean?
- 12:07Right, right, that recovery period.
- 12:09I mean, I, I guess I was, I don't, I, I knew I wanted to get
- 12:12back on the bike. Like I like I knew that even in
- 12:14the hospital, like, you know, and you know, it was like it
- 12:17happened in August and I mean, I club race and I, I was, I raced
- 12:22the following season. I also, you know, jacked up a
- 12:26bunch of ligaments in my hand and fractured a bone too.
- 12:29So I, I had to deal with that. But like, I, I think, I mean,
- 12:33you know, I knew I wanted to get back on.
- 12:34I didn't knew, I didn't know like, you know, how healthy I
- 12:38would be and stuff like that, 'cause I had surgery and, and
- 12:41all that fun stuff. But like, I think by like, but I
- 12:45end up racing probably sooner than I probably should have.
- 12:50So, so you have some time to think about it and then what
- 12:55made you decide to say I'm going, I'm going to race?
- 12:58Well, so I actually, I stopped the dirt bike racing.
- 13:03So bikes are just sitting there. I, I kind of indirectly told
- 13:07them I didn't want to race anymore because I was just, I'm
- 13:09tired of getting hurt. It wasn't getting fun anymore.
- 13:12Right, right. I.
- 13:13Mean like I was, I was just racing, racing, racing, not
- 13:16having fun. And to me, having fun is one of
- 13:19the key factors to actually wanting to do something right.
- 13:23So I stopped racing around I think 12 when I was 13.
- 13:31And I remember my dad came home from him riding from a track and
- 13:38he'd bought AI believe it was a art, a 300.
- 13:44Well, he, he actually pranked me.
- 13:45It was a 300 frame with the all the parts and stuff.
- 13:49So he was like, I got you his bike.
- 13:51We got to build it for you to ride.
- 13:52And I was, I was all for, I was like, yeah, let's go right.
- 13:59Then he, he actually opened the trim.
- 14:00There was a, a real bike. Yeah.
- 14:04I, I would have been fine with building a bike, if I'm being
- 14:06honest. That would have been, that would
- 14:08have been an experience for me. So yeah, then I started doing
- 14:15track days and stuff. I started racing with a Moto
- 14:18Gladiator. Yeah, OK.
- 14:20Yeah, yeah, I heard of them. Yeah, I started racing with
- 14:22them, just having fun racing, trying to really progress to
- 14:29what I really wanted to, because at the time I was not doing out
- 14:33of fun to see if I really wanted to do it.
- 14:36And I found a lot of enjoyment and I felt dedicated to that.
- 14:41Right. And and So what, and like, you
- 14:43know, going from dirt to to asphalt, like if you said you
- 14:48you started going doing track days, like what was your first
- 14:50experience at the track? I mean, you know, did it just I
- 14:54mean it is different kind of grip with dirt and asphalt.
- 14:57So like, what did, what did it feel like for you?
- 15:00I did skip a part, I'm going to be honest.
- 15:02So we actually got a volley. OK, that's what's up.
- 15:06We had no volley and it was like volley 110.
- 15:10Yeah. So we went out to where was it?
- 15:14What was my first VR? It was either VR or CMPI, can't
- 15:21really remember at the time. Yeah.
- 15:22Yeah, yeah. But we went out and I believe it
- 15:28was CMP. I it's a smaller track.
- 15:32Now we were on the cart track and I went out and I was just,
- 15:38it was just a completely different world, like from speed
- 15:42to how you treat the bike, how you're riding style is it wasn't
- 15:49a hard transition. It was, it was easy, but it was
- 15:52all just so different. That's hard.
- 15:55So yeah, I started riding and of course I'm, I'm trying to go
- 16:02faster. So I crashed.
- 16:08I low sided coming on. Well, two corners, the second to
- 16:13last corner I low sided and I didn't know what to do because
- 16:17in motocross the bikes are built sturdy.
- 16:20So when you crash, you get up, run to the bike, keep going and
- 16:24road racing you, you just kind of got to walk off.
- 16:29So like I didn't know what to do.
- 16:30I was like running back and forth, like looking at my dad,
- 16:33looking at my mom, like I didn't know what to do.
- 16:35I was. So I went over to the bike and
- 16:38we just pulled it off whatever. I wasn't really upset.
- 16:42I kind of knew crashing was going to come.
- 16:44It's bound to happen. So just mistakes to learn from
- 16:50so. Nice, nice.
- 16:52And and so now you're and so you know, you had the Ovali, which
- 16:56we what do you do think of that 110?
- 16:58I that was a bike I was thinking about maybe like either the 190
- 17:01or the 110 or one of them to get.
- 17:03Did you did you like riding that bike when you were riding it?
- 17:06Do you still do you still have it?
- 17:07Do you still ride it? So we don't have it anymore.
- 17:10It was a 110. It was fun.
- 17:12I think I have more fun on it now.
- 17:15Yeah, but it was it was fun for my first bike.
- 17:19It's a good learning bike. They're they're built, they're
- 17:22built for racing. So got you.
- 17:25And and then so now you got the 300 at some point.
- 17:29And and so now at this point you're thinking, I'm I'm going
- 17:31to go race with this 300 and you start racing the club series or
- 17:36so and, and gladiators. Is it is it like a track day
- 17:40organization or they a racing organization or both?
- 17:44They're they're more of a track day organization.
- 17:47Like they, they throw in two races and it's a mixed classes.
- 17:51So everybody's on the grid. Yeah, they throw in two races.
- 17:58That that was fun. It was fun.
- 18:02I definitely like like the mode America stuff and Azure stuff
- 18:05more since it's a little more organized.
- 18:07Right. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:09So, so you went to the so I was going to say, so where did you
- 18:11go next? So did you start doing Azra
- 18:13after that and, and, and and then when did you get into Motor
- 18:17America or like how did, how did that happen?
- 18:20So I raced the Motive Gladiator for a while, starting to get
- 18:26faster. I got a 400.
- 18:30Then I started racing with Azra because my dad was, well, we, we
- 18:37actually raced with Weira some we raced with Weira and then we
- 18:42went to Azra on my 400. And that's, that's really,
- 18:48that's where I really excelled because it's, it's a, it's a
- 18:52race organization, everybody there to race.
- 18:54But at the same time, it's not like Mode America competitive
- 18:58where you can still talk to people and get hints and tricks
- 19:00and stuff like that. Right, right.
- 19:02Yeah, No, I, I raced the, I, I raced, well, I started up in New
- 19:06England and I raised LRRS, which was part of AZRA CCS and then I
- 19:1221 and 2223 I think I raised, I raced AZRA after they, they
- 19:17moved on and stuff like that. So no, it's, it's an awesome
- 19:19organization. So what was that like for you
- 19:22racing And now were you racing up and down the East Coast?
- 19:25Were you racing at like Atlanta, the Southeast?
- 19:28What regions were you racing in AZRA?
- 19:32This, this is going to sound terrible.
- 19:34I don't know the regions, but I know we were like, well, what's
- 19:37North Carolina, Virginia. We went down to Atlanta a few
- 19:42times. Yeah, VIR, real sneak, yeah.
- 19:49Alright, well, you said CMPI, don't know.
- 19:51Did you race CMP? We did.
- 19:53Roblin Summit. Well, yeah, I did do Summit.
- 19:57That's a fun track. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like, I, I
- 19:59haven't been in a few years, but it is, it is a fun track.
- 20:02Every track is a fun track, you know, Yeah, unless you got to
- 20:06pick one the same day, you know, 2.
- 20:08So, but like, yeah, I, I like Summit a lot.
- 20:12How about Pitt? Have you raced Pitt?
- 20:14I have not. OK, Yeah, I only raced there
- 20:16once. It's I like it a lot.
- 20:18It reminds me of So how like Barbara?
- 20:21Have you been to Barbara? I've been to Barbara.
- 20:24So it reminds me of Barbara a lot with all the turns and the
- 20:27elevation changes and stuff like that.
- 20:29But I'm, I'm, I'm sad to see it go.
- 20:31I only, I was only there to get get to go there.
- 20:33Once I raced, I I ran it on the KTM.
- 20:36So a small bike, but still it was a fun track.
- 20:39So, you know, do you have a favorite track?
- 20:46Oh, favorite track. I would put Barbara up there,
- 20:52but I only raced there when it was kind of cold.
- 20:56So I didn't get the full experience up there.
- 20:59But I can't put, I don't know. My top three would be VIR Rd.
- 21:05Atlanta. Yeah.
- 21:08And I don't know. I haven't been to VIR yet so
- 21:12it's on my it's it's on my bucket list.
- 21:14You should definitely go that's that's attractive.
- 21:17B Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've I've heard good things and I I I do,
- 21:23you know, ride game. I do, I do, I do use ride it on
- 21:25it on a video game, but it's not the same.
- 21:27But it's like, I'm pretty sure I'll I'll like it when I get
- 21:30there. So so you got VIR Atlanta,
- 21:33Barbara nice. And and so, you know, what is it
- 21:38like racing in Azra? And it sounds like you're also
- 21:43racing mode of America as well. And, and so you know, it was the
- 21:48competition like for you when it, when you got to Azra and
- 21:51stuff like that, racing because it's all ages, right?
- 21:53It's all based on times, you know what I mean?
- 21:56And you see, you're racing against, you know, where with
- 21:57dirt bike, you're kind of racing in the age class where, you
- 22:02know, you could be racing against me in Azra.
- 22:07So what was that like for you being a a, a, a young person?
- 22:11It, it, it felt great. I, I don't know it, it felt
- 22:17good. As I started progressing up
- 22:19towards the front. It took me a while, but as I
- 22:22started getting up there, meeting new people, it was just,
- 22:26it was overall good. Nice.
- 22:28It was nice. Yeah, yeah, I, I, I can, I can
- 22:31see that. And so let's talk about training
- 22:34and stuff like that outside of what you've said so far, you
- 22:37know, going to karting tracks and the different bikes and
- 22:41stuff like that. What is your training like?
- 22:43And then also just talk a little bit about Motor America, like
- 22:46how long have you been in Motor America and what, what has that
- 22:48been like for you as well? So this is actually my first
- 22:52year with Motor America. Nice.
- 22:55Yeah, we just raced the Daytona. That was fun.
- 22:58Nice, nice. Was that the first time at the
- 23:02Daytona track? No, it was my third time.
- 23:06OK, so yeah, you might. You probably did a race the
- 23:08champion, so yeah. Yeah, that was yeah, they told
- 23:12us really good too. Yeah, it, it, it's, you know, I,
- 23:20I think for any racer, it's a track he at least got a ride on
- 23:23once either because it's just, you know, it's just hard to tell
- 23:28people what it's like. The banking I don't need that's
- 23:34it's looking at it, it looks crazy, but when you're on it, it
- 23:37feels like a straight line, but you could feel it pulling you
- 23:40into the bike. It's.
- 23:42Yeah, no, it's, it's, it's pretty wild.
- 23:44It's pretty, it's pretty wild. I I like it a lot.
- 23:47It's something of most tracks to ride, I mean, and and I do enjoy
- 23:52it a lot, you know what I mean, But I would it's not, I wouldn't
- 23:55say it's my favorite track, but any, any opportunity I get to go
- 23:58on, I am going. So is it It kind of is.
- 24:02So now you know, you, so you raced in Azra for how many years
- 24:07did you race in Azra? And then like, what was what,
- 24:10you know, made you decide to say, OK, it's time for me to
- 24:14race motor America? Or were you always just kind of
- 24:16like just kind of waiting for, I assume your age to, to, to, to
- 24:21get there to go race? Yeah.
- 24:23So I raised ASA for like 3 seasons, Four Seasons.
- 24:30And I just, I was never old enough for Motor America.
- 24:35When they had the the 400 cup, I was like 13 and 14.
- 24:40I wasn't old enough because you have to be 15.
- 24:43And then they got rid of that and put in the talent cup.
- 24:47And we didn't really do that because we had bought a twin, a
- 24:51660. So you're like, you're old
- 24:54enough. We we can get sponsors and
- 24:57everything. We can just do the Twins Cup.
- 25:00So we went in pretty confident. Well, we went in Daytona with
- 25:06with very little expectations since first mode America race
- 25:10different league, not really knowing where I'm at on the twin
- 25:14because I haven't really raced like that on it.
- 25:18So we went in with just try to try to qualify and just make
- 25:24some noise. Right.
- 25:26So we we went in, we qualified. Thank thank God we got into the
- 25:33first race. I placed eighteen, which that
- 25:39night I set a goal for top 20. Got you.
- 25:42OK. So that's what's happening.
- 25:44I beat that goal. I was happy about that.
- 25:46So second day we went in and I was like all right, 18 or
- 25:50higher, I know I can do better. So we came up the line,
- 25:53everything was good. I believe we had a race restart.
- 25:58So we restarting everything. We went out again and I I
- 26:03believe I was in 18 and then I came around and I was in like
- 26:08like 16th and I bumped up to 15th and I was, I was running
- 26:14good pace for 15th and my clutch burnt up.
- 26:20Wow. Yeah, it was.
- 26:22We were coming around to check to last lap to White Planet.
- 26:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like.
- 26:28It was right like right there, like 2 more laps and we could
- 26:32have adjusted it, but at the time I didn't really know that.
- 26:35Right, right, right I was. Just done so I was just upset I
- 26:40just started losing losing spots as it was going out.
- 26:43I was getting frustrated so I I eventually came off to hot pit
- 26:46and I like a blurred mind. I was upset, I was confused, I
- 26:52was frantic and I was like, I was just telling my dad the bike
- 26:55won't go. So we had AI hopped over the
- 26:58wall and I actually kind of calmed down a little bit and we
- 27:03figured out it was just a clutch, like just no power.
- 27:06Right, right, right. Yeah.
- 27:07Spike but bike would go nowhere so I was kind of bummed about
- 27:10that. Yeah, no, you know, it's, it's
- 27:12one of those things when you have mechanical, I think you'd
- 27:17prefer to crash out and have a mechanical, you know, even
- 27:20though mechanical sometimes could cost less, but it's just
- 27:24kind of like it's, it's the worst to and I've had that
- 27:27happen. I I figure which track I was at
- 27:29and the same thing my bike with my KTM was cutting off and it
- 27:32was like cutting off the whole race and, and the same thing.
- 27:36I was just wasn't sure what it was.
- 27:37And, and I'm like, do I keep going or do I come?
- 27:40You know, I wasn't sure if I was going to do something to the
- 27:42motor. And I, and I pitted like like
- 27:44this. Like I think it's like the same
- 27:45thing second to last lap or something like that.
- 27:47And I was leading my, my class and, and it was, you know, it
- 27:51was one of those things like, I still remember it.
- 27:52So, you know, the mechanicals are the worst, you know, to, to
- 27:58have happen to you, but you also learn from it and, and, and it
- 28:02makes you stronger. I mean, you're still really
- 28:04young. So you do have a, so you have a
- 28:06lot of years in front of you to, to, to, to put it all together.
- 28:11But that, I mean, I think that's one of the hot that one of the
- 28:13IT, I'll say this for racing. I mean, I, like I said, I've
- 28:15been, I've been racing since 2013 and, and like, I think 21
- 28:19was the first year where I'm like, you know, I'm trying to
- 28:22fix my bike and go back out. Normally my bike breaks and just
- 28:26put it in the trailer and, and call it a kind of thing.
- 28:28But then you learn tonight, you learn this and somewhere along
- 28:31the line, you just learn this. Never give up attitude where
- 28:34like you, you, you're gear, whatever you're, you're, you're
- 28:37getting everything. You use a hammer to bang
- 28:39something out. You got to use tape like
- 28:40together and, and that's, and and that's, you know, that's,
- 28:44that's life in general, man, because, you know, things are
- 28:46always going to come at you and as as long as you never give up,
- 28:50you know, you guys, you have a fighting chance.
- 28:53So seeing that for me, going through that and, and seeing
- 28:56where I am now, where it's just kind of like, all right, I'm
- 28:58getting my bike together. So even though it's the, you
- 29:01know, like your first round at Daytona and motor America and
- 29:04having these things happen, it's just going to make you stronger
- 29:07through the rest of the season. So I, I assume you're, you're
- 29:10going to be on your way to rode Atlanta in a in a few days.
- 29:14Yeah, we're, we're leaving tomorrow.
- 29:16It's it's a couple hours pretty long drive for me at least it
- 29:23feels long. Got.
- 29:25You passenger. But yeah, we're heading down
- 29:27there tomorrow to get in and everything, get everything set
- 29:29up like it needs to be. Got you.
- 29:31Yeah, we'll get there on on Friday for media stuff, but but
- 29:38you guys need to get there and do and do all the all the things
- 29:40you need to do. So now do you feel after the
- 29:44first round that you kind of have an idea what to expect at
- 29:49at Rd. Atlanta?
- 29:50Yeah, I do. Yeah.
- 29:54I just, I'm just hoping and praying.
- 29:58I I feel like I've put the works to to be able to qualifying
- 30:03everything so right. Just hoping to do that.
- 30:06All right, all right, no doubt. And and you know, like I said,
- 30:09that that's something that's definitely going to come.
- 30:10So I'm I'm looking forward to seeing you out there on
- 30:13Saturday. So now, you know, with racing,
- 30:16and it sounds like you've been you've been racing now for
- 30:18several years. Like, how are you managing like
- 30:22school and imagining you know, all the stuff that doesn't
- 30:25pertain to racing? What really keeps you going with
- 30:30the school work is my parents say if I don't do my work I
- 30:33don't race. So I just I wake up, go to
- 30:37school, get it all done, bring it home if I need to and for
- 30:41waste race weeks like this I might well my school requires to
- 30:46like send in a note to like be pre approved and everything.
- 30:51And then my teachers they have the option which I find weird to
- 30:54give me the work or to not give me it.
- 30:56Gotcha. Most of my teachers are cool.
- 30:58So I get the work and I either do it like tonight I would do it
- 31:03so I don't have to take it with me, or I take it with me and do
- 31:05it over the few days. Gotcha.
- 31:08Just just so I'm not falling behind and I'm still with the
- 31:11material like the rest of the class.
- 31:13Right, right. And, and So what do you, what do
- 31:15your friends think about you going racing and stuff like
- 31:17that? And do they ride as well or they
- 31:20they're in other sports? So I have a couple friends that
- 31:23are that ride. They they're on the same boat,
- 31:28but like my friends like inside of school and stuff.
- 31:32I don't, they, I don't know how to wear this.
- 31:37They have this like weird mindset where it's like, why are
- 31:40you going if you're not getting paid?
- 31:43And I just have to put in terms is like, especially like the
- 31:46kids that play football and stuff.
- 31:47It's like, why do why do you play middle school football?
- 31:49Why do you spend so much money on cleats and give stuff like
- 31:52that if you're not getting paid? And that kind of evens it out a
- 31:56little bit. But everybody, I mean, for the
- 31:59most part, most people think it's cool, but you still have
- 32:01those feelers. Like I raised their bikes.
- 32:03I raised their bikes, you know, they just have that ego, so.
- 32:07Great. Yeah, no, you know, as as they
- 32:10should have. They have any of your friends
- 32:14come watch you race or anything like that?
- 32:17Nah, I don't. I don't really like to invite a
- 32:20lot of my friends because I know if I do that I'll just get
- 32:23sidetracked and not do what I need to.
- 32:25Got you. But yeah.
- 32:27So, and, and, and so like my, my, my daughter plays tennis and
- 32:31you know, she plays, she practices six days a week,
- 32:35weather permitting and, and stuff like that.
- 32:39And, you know, we were asked her if she wanted to be homeschooled
- 32:42and she's, she wants to know part of it.
- 32:43So have you thought about being going be doing homeschooling
- 32:47instead of going into school? I'm going to be honest, I have
- 32:52not because I'm, I feel good where I'm at.
- 32:56I'm already in high school. I'm in 10th grade.
- 32:58I only have two more years so not much time left, but I don't
- 33:05know about my parents. They probably have, but I don't
- 33:09see the need in it. OK, and and so you know, this is
- 33:13your first year in in Northern America.
- 33:17What are you? What are you what are your goals
- 33:19for the year? Like?
- 33:20What do you know? It comes Jersey in in the end of
- 33:24September, October. I don't know what exact calendar
- 33:27date. What are you hoping to, you
- 33:29know, see yourself finished in in in the series?
- 33:33I I, me personally, I want to get at least a point or two.
- 33:39I just, I just don't want to have my hopes too high to where
- 33:45I I start beating myself up because I tend to do that often.
- 33:49Right, right. Because I know what I'm capable
- 33:51of, but like, you know what I mean?
- 33:54So I'm just I'm hoping to get through the year, stay in one
- 33:58piece, score a point or a couple points, just.
- 34:04And, and so even though it was only Daytona and I don't know
- 34:08how much seat time you got on the R660R660 and, and I don't
- 34:12know if you ride, rode any other bigger bikes since the, the
- 34:15danger 400, you know, and it, you know, at the end of the
- 34:20weekend and you know, and, and getting up to 15th place with a
- 34:23couple of laps to go. Like, how do you, how do you
- 34:27feel yourself, you know, against the competition?
- 34:29Do you like, OK, I, I, I wasn't giving, you know, 89%.
- 34:34So if I give a little more, I might do something.
- 34:36Did you did did did you have that in the back of your mind?
- 34:38A little? Bit yeah, after, yeah, it's
- 34:41always like that for me. After thinking about, it's like,
- 34:43I could have done this better. I could have done that, you
- 34:46know? Yeah.
- 34:48It just, I don't know. It's weird how it happens.
- 34:52Listen, man, you're, you're really young.
- 34:54So like you said early on, you know, it's all fun and enjoying
- 34:58and then and having fun because you're, you know, I mean, you
- 35:02know, we all, you know, take it serious to a degree, but when
- 35:04you're 15, you got to have more fun than take it serious.
- 35:08You know what I mean? You worry about that like when
- 35:11you're in your 20s, as far as, you know, making certain
- 35:15decision, but you got to, you have to love whatever it is that
- 35:19you're doing and, and, and, and as long as you stay with as long
- 35:22as that love, is there like anything possible, you know, so,
- 35:27so that's pretty awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing,
- 35:31see what happened this season for you, man.
- 35:32And so, you know, tell folks how they can find you on social
- 35:36media and you know, if they're, if you're, if you're looking for
- 35:39sponsors, tell the sponsors how they can find you.
- 35:41All that fun stuff. You can find my Instagram at
- 35:45Facebook at 2 Bones Racing. I want to thank on the way
- 35:53racing OTW, racing Lejeune power sports.
- 36:00Gosh. Yeah, man, I really appreciate
- 36:19you coming out, man, and, and taking the time and, and sharing
- 36:24your story. I'm looking forward to it, man.
- 36:25You're still pretty young. So you know, you have, you have
- 36:29a, you have some ways to go. So that's the beautiful part
- 36:31about it. My name is Rex 45.
- 36:33It's the Be Forever Cool podcast.
- 36:35This evening we had Kaden Brown on.
- 36:38Thank you for coming on man Peace.
