- 0:00Dot com. Welcome to the Daily Quote, the
- 0:05podcast designed to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and let's dive into today's
- 0:12quote from Helen Keller, who became deaf and blind at 19
- 0:17months old. Yet she learned to read, write,
- 0:20and speak, accomplishing what many said was impossible.
- 0:25She once said, while we were saying amongst ourselves it
- 0:30cannot be done, it was done. Think about the timing here.
- 0:36Not after they stopped doubting. Not once they changed their
- 0:39minds while they were saying it couldn't be done.
- 0:43Helen Keller lived this. People said she'd never learned
- 0:46to communicate, said it was impossible, said she should be
- 0:50institutionalized. While they were saying that she
- 0:55was learning, while they were debating whether or not it could
- 0:58be done, her teacher, Ann Sullivan was doing it.
- 1:02This is the pattern of every major breakthrough, every
- 1:06impossible achievement, every it can't be done.
- 1:09That became it has been done. The Wright brothers built a
- 1:14flying machine while experts published papers proving human
- 1:17flight was impossible. Roger Bannister ran a 4 minute
- 1:22mile while scientists said the human body couldn't do it.
- 1:26The doubters talk, the doers do. And by the time the doubters
- 1:31finish explaining why it's impossible, it's already been
- 1:35accomplished. Here's the critical insight.
- 1:38The doubters aren't necessarily wrong to doubt the thing that
- 1:42might actually be extremely difficult.
- 1:45It might have never been done before.
- 1:47It might seem impossible based on current knowledge, but while
- 1:52they're debating whether it can be done, someone else is just
- 1:56doing it. The doing happens while the
- 1:59doubting is still going on. You don't wait for permission,
- 2:03you don't wait for consensus, you don't wait for the doubters
- 2:07to change their minds. You just do the work, and when
- 2:12they look up from their debate, it's finished.
- 2:16So here's the question, what are people telling you can't be
- 2:19done? And what would happen if while
- 2:23they were saying it, you just did it?
- 2:26Because the doubters will always doubt that's what they do.
- 2:31But while they're doubting, you can be doing.
- 2:34And when it's done, their doubts won't matter anymore.
- 2:39That's it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
- 2:41for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 2:46Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
