- 0:22Along with all her chickens. Hey, good morning from the
- 0:29chicken coop. Today, I want to ask you about
- 0:34defining things, it seems like a very strange question, right?
- 0:38Like defining things, what does that mean?
- 0:41Well, basically, everything going to be sarcastic, but it
- 0:44is, it's everything. How we Define things shapes our
- 0:48lives. And while we all have
- 0:50dictionaries, and we all understand certain things, and
- 0:53we've been taught, what certain words?
- 0:55Mean, I'm are quoting that, by the way, what they mean to us is
- 1:00What really matters because if we don't understand how we
- 1:03Define things, then we end up doing ourselves a lot of damage
- 1:08because nine times out of ten, those definitions are more of a
- 1:12reaction than a definition and we end up leaving people who are
- 1:18in our lives dealing with the Carnage of our moods.
- 1:22When we start to react in ways about these definitions that
- 1:26we've created when it comes to anything.
- 1:28So let's Take an example of, you know, you go to a restaurant
- 1:35you're sitting in a restaurant. Think this is a common example
- 1:38for all of us and the waitress takes a long time to come over
- 1:41to the table. You have an opportunity in that
- 1:45moment to sit there and think to yourself, okay?
- 1:49They must be really busy in this restaurant because she's not
- 1:52showing up. You could also make it mean, she
- 1:56has no idea what she's doing. She's a terrible.
- 1:58Waitress, why is she not showing up?
- 2:00At the table. It could mean, oh, I bet they
- 2:03don't have the right supplies tonight because we all know how
- 2:06that's going right now where there's such supply shortages
- 2:08everywhere. So they, there's you know, not
- 2:11enough, he in here, not enough supplies are running out of
- 2:13things, and they're still trying to do business.
- 2:17So annoying, Really what's happening in the moment is you
- 2:22just haven't been waited on, you're sitting at a table, you
- 2:25haven't been waited on. And in that time that short span
- 2:29of time, maybe let's use a scenario of like, six minutes.
- 2:33Seven minutes. You have no one said.
- 2:35Hello. No one's given you menus.
- 2:37You have made it mean all these different things.
- 2:41You also probably gone because if you're like me, you've gone
- 2:43to my certainty girl. Driving.
- 2:46Oh God. Does this mean we're not going
- 2:47to get our food quickly? Does this mean?
- 2:49We're going to have to sit here? That means, I can't order
- 2:52anything special from the kitchen because I'm sure the
- 2:54kitchen is not going to be able to get this, right?
- 2:56And I wonder if it's going to take them forever, to get it out
- 2:58of the, take out of the kitchen to the table, and oh my God, I
- 3:01hope she doesn't come over frazzle because I can't stand
- 3:04that energy because that my friends is what goes on in my
- 3:07head, when I tell you, it's hard to be in my head, you have no
- 3:10idea. This is why I do what I do
- 3:12because I understand it so well and I can help people through
- 3:15it. And that that amount of
- 3:19ridiculousness that I I just described to you is really what
- 3:22goes on in my head, I'm not even joking, my husband will attest
- 3:24to it. Yes.
- 3:25And I sometimes say it all out loud to him and then he's like,
- 3:27oh my God. What goes on in your head?
- 3:30So point is, it's been a short period of time.
- 3:34And here we are sitting there making all of this up and
- 3:39before, you know, it, the person comes over to the table and we
- 3:43have a whole story in our head about what that little span of
- 3:48time has actually meant She starts to wait on you, and she
- 3:53seems frazzled. She seems like she's
- 3:56overwhelmed. Maybe they opened and they don't
- 4:00have enough workers. But everybody's trying to regain
- 4:03their business, get back on track and they're doing the best
- 4:06they can with what they have. But you have also now started to
- 4:10pick up on her energy and said, oh my God.
- 4:13No no I just don't I don't want this.
- 4:16This is not good for me. This isn't going to be great and
- 4:20this is something that Is going to impede your whole evening now
- 4:25because you're focused on this rather than just letting it go.
- 4:28Now the scenario I'm talking about is a scenario that happens
- 4:32to us here where we live at a pizza place and I wanted to use
- 4:38a real scenario and what happens to me and my family because I
- 4:42think it's so important to know that even me doing what I do.
- 4:46I have these moments and I have a particular when I'm telling
- 4:49you the story, it's real. There's a waitress that whenever
- 4:51she comes to the table. I pick up on her energy right
- 4:54away and I'm like, oh God. And it's come to the point now
- 4:58where I want to find a new pizza place.
- 5:01And my husband really likes the pizza at this place and I'm just
- 5:04like, oh, please not her anybody.
- 5:06But her, here's the truth. I can go in there and I can have
- 5:11pizza and I can let it all go and I can change what it means
- 5:16to me. I can change what it means to
- 5:18me. If I do it before I go, and if I
- 5:22choose To say, okay, this is not a big deal.
- 5:25Why am I uptight about this? What is the reason that this has
- 5:28such? A hold on me.
- 5:29But if he just says to me out of the blue, hey, you want to go
- 5:32grab pizza? I immediately Panic.
- 5:35Why it's Pizza think about this? It's Pizza.
- 5:38What am I doing? What I'm doing is having an
- 5:41emotional reaction to something because I've had those
- 5:44experiences where they make you wait.
- 5:46They make you wait. They make you wait, is the food
- 5:49worth it? Yeah, the food is actually
- 5:50really great. The pizza is great.
- 5:53But their service not-so-great, the people they hire, you know,
- 5:58they are who they are. And I think they're, in
- 6:00overwhelmed based on the conditions that they are being
- 6:03asked to work in, but they're showing up every day and they're
- 6:05making an effort. So the point of me telling you
- 6:08the story today is we get to decide what things mean to us.
- 6:12Can I ultimately say to my husband and do I ultimately say
- 6:16to my husband? I would not prefer to go to the
- 6:18pizza place tonight. I just don't have the bandwidth
- 6:21to deal with her, if she's there.
- 6:23Yes, do I say that 100%. But there are also times when
- 6:27I'm like, no, it's totally fine. I'm okay.
- 6:29I can choose something different.
- 6:30And the point is I want you to think about this because you
- 6:35have the ultimate decision of what things mean to you and what
- 6:39you do with them and my goal is to be able to say at any point
- 6:43in time. Yeah, I can go there and not
- 6:45have anybody pushing my buttons because remember as dr.
- 6:48Wayne Dyer brilliantly said it's not their fault for pushing your
- 6:52buttons, it's your All for having the buttons they push and
- 6:55that ultimately comes down to what we make things mean.
- 6:58And if I can control the meaning of things that I have, my my
- 7:03complete inner worlds, in control, as far as letting
- 7:07somebody in and disturbing it. So this is the beginning of
- 7:10this, my friends and this is what I want you to focus on.
- 7:13Okay. Remember you have the ultimate
- 7:16choice? Just like I have to remember
- 7:17that when it comes to Pizza. Alright I will see you tomorrow.
- 7:21Bye.
