- 0:30Speaker 5: I know National podcast.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Podcast because I like to ye my bag baby, that's
- 0:39Speaker 3: what I was playing with my favor anywhere. I bet
- 0:42Speaker 3: you were playing with something.
- 0:44Speaker 5: And then the end scene with with Vader and the
- 0:47Speaker 5: whole thing. I just love the movie boilers for Polastic.
- 0:53Speaker 6: I've never seen a single Star Wars movie and I'm
- 0:55Speaker 6: twenty eight, so it's not like I'm young. Camarene, matt
- 0:57Speaker 6: Induce and everybody else. Explain why one day I should
- 1:00Speaker 6: watch them.
- 1:01Speaker 7: You don't appreciate it.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I don't want you to watch it. Go somewhere else that,
- 1:05Speaker 3: but I would say.
- 1:08Speaker 8: Doom exact decision that one.
- 1:13Speaker 7: Don't get me that they turned the lightsaber blue instead
- 1:16Speaker 7: of white.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Really it's clearly worse, but I'm just saying, like.
- 1:24Speaker 4: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:27Speaker 7: Fueled by Duncan.
- 1:30Speaker 4: All right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. I can't hear myself,
- 1:35Speaker 4: but can you guys hear me?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Okay? All right?
- 1:38Speaker 4: For some reason I can't hear me. All Right, I'm
- 1:42Speaker 4: just gonna keep going. Hopefully the world can hear us.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:47Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:48Speaker 4: It is Tuesday here at Jillette Stadium, and uh we
- 1:53Speaker 4: are live two o'clock.
- 1:56Speaker 6: It's kind of going to do there. I am now
- 1:59Speaker 6: I here. Kind of when you do the COVID shows
- 2:01Speaker 6: and you can't hear yourself and you try to do
- 2:03Speaker 6: jokes and it just feels like it falls flat. It's
- 2:05Speaker 6: hard when you can't hear yourself in your own headset, right, Yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 6: I need more music and the monitor?
- 2:09Speaker 8: Is that what that means?
- 2:09Speaker 4: I can hear cow bell? All right?
- 2:12Speaker 3: But it is I don't think I can hear it is.
- 2:15Speaker 4: It's Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's Matisse and faith
- 2:19Speaker 4: in the booth and we have faith that you can
- 2:22Speaker 4: hear us.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Those faith punts never get old. Tell me I try
- 2:26Speaker 3: one every show.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Where's Matt?
- 2:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:28Speaker 4: Where I don't know.
- 2:29Speaker 8: I don't know where man is everything.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Can I hear? I hear everything? A waller? Did he
- 2:34Speaker 4: ask for leave?
- 2:36Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 2:36Speaker 3: It looks kind of a wall in here with all
- 2:38Speaker 3: the chords and stuff. That's the problem. Like this has
- 2:41Speaker 3: nothing to do with Matisa. The Revs have coming dear at.
- 2:44Speaker 4: The studio in their open cup game destroyed everything, so.
- 2:47Speaker 6: Every soundboards and chords and something called an m D
- 2:51Speaker 6: A chex here.
- 2:51Speaker 8: I don't know what any of.
- 2:52Speaker 4: This anyway, all right, but we're gonna talk about Patriots.
- 2:55Speaker 10: D m H.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I don't know what. He's just rattling off letters and numbers, numbers.
- 2:59Speaker 4: We're gonna talk Patriot. It's on like last Thursday when
- 3:02Speaker 4: it was May fourth, And I'm okay with the talk.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I'm just you know, talking about Star Wars.
- 3:06Speaker 8: But like you gotta live it.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Yeah, but like from what I understand, uh you need
- 3:12Speaker 4: it's someone who note knew Star Wars.
- 3:14Speaker 11: Well.
- 3:14Speaker 8: You didn't like Evan's rankings. I feel like Evan needs
- 3:16Speaker 8: to read all his rankings.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Evan's rankings were fine, thank you, but not that I
- 3:21Speaker 4: agree with it.
- 3:21Speaker 8: Because he watched the film. I mean, he had watched
- 3:23Speaker 8: off all the film.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Everyone he watched all eleven Yeah, everyone has their own opinions.
- 3:27Speaker 3: So that's not the twenty.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Two my my original Trilogy box set, Return of the Jedi,
- 3:34Speaker 5: I think is the one that no longer works. Well
- 3:36Speaker 5: it's it's Princess burnt out Princess like all right, but
- 3:40Speaker 5: we never got about Patriots.
- 3:42Speaker 4: We've got some availability today.
- 3:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna pop over Chris Bord, Jawant Bentley, little
- 3:46Speaker 6: little linebacker.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Flavor Special Team. So okay, go check on. So we'll
- 3:50Speaker 4: have that today and we'll have that up on Patriots
- 3:51Speaker 4: dot com after the fact. We've got the schedule release
- 3:56Speaker 4: on Thursday, and boy, what does that become? You know,
- 4:01Speaker 4: I don't know if that might be bigger than the combine.
- 4:03Speaker 3: The social media super Bowl.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it really is.
- 4:06Speaker 6: Well that was the schefter tweet yesterday which Minakhines did
- 4:09Speaker 6: a whole report on it, which kind of just featured
- 4:11Speaker 6: the Chargers, the Cowboys and the feature Falcons brought us
- 4:17Speaker 6: a couple of them Dallas, Seattle, so there's a lot
- 4:20Speaker 6: of it was over the weekend. I caught the feature
- 4:22Speaker 6: and I thought it was funny like watching it because
- 4:27Speaker 6: some like I thought the Chargers like they were Someone said,
- 4:31Speaker 6: this is almost like the social media super Bowl, right,
- 4:33Speaker 6: and she's like, well, I guess, but I would much
- 4:36Speaker 6: rather be involved in the.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Actually, yeah, we'd like the super Bowl to be there where.
- 4:39Speaker 3: It's like I thought there was some other teams that
- 4:42Speaker 3: were really taking themselves a little too serious. Oh yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 3: you know right.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Atlanta, I believe, was one of the ones that I
- 4:49Speaker 3: was like, how do you win the super Bowl?
- 4:51Speaker 4: Like, come on, well, no, I mean Atlanta has you
- 4:55Speaker 4: know historically, you know, spent some money on this thing.
- 4:58Speaker 4: They were the ones. I think they did the Game
- 5:01Speaker 4: of Thrones opening to this schedule release, which you know,
- 5:07Speaker 4: the animation must have cost him a boatload, you know,
- 5:10Speaker 4: so they you know, they really take it seriously. I mean,
- 5:13Speaker 4: what else do they got, you.
- 5:14Speaker 8: Know, that's right? Yeah, twenty eight to three memes?
- 5:17Speaker 4: Yeah, for them, it is the super Bowl.
- 5:19Speaker 3: And they did talk about like a lot of them
- 5:22Speaker 3: were explaining how they you know, sort of come up
- 5:24Speaker 3: with a theme and then they try to incorporate as
- 5:26Speaker 3: much stuff as they can. And the Chargers wanted hiding
- 5:30Speaker 3: the Easter eggs. That guy, the guy who did the anime, right,
- 5:33Speaker 3: that was last year, Yeah, that last year, two years ago,
- 5:35Speaker 3: that last year, that guy when he came on camera,
- 5:37Speaker 3: the guy who was responsible for the anime, he was
- 5:39Speaker 3: like he was coming back from war, you know. He
- 5:42Speaker 3: was like he's going over the whole thing, you know.
- 5:44Speaker 3: And then you know, you finally, you know, after all
- 5:45Speaker 3: this work, you get to the end and you just
- 5:47Speaker 3: want to like plug the games in. You're like, oh,
- 5:49Speaker 3: thank god, it's finally, And I was like, thank you
- 5:51Speaker 3: for your service.
- 5:52Speaker 8: And social media was just like the fact that.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And I have no doubt that that was a lot
- 5:56Speaker 3: of work by the way they like, I.
- 5:58Speaker 6: Just wonder if it was just him like doing it all.
- 6:03Speaker 8: We need this thing.
- 6:04Speaker 4: But the fact that the Chargers have a burn book,
- 6:06Speaker 4: did you hear that?
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:08Speaker 4: I love that they have a burn book of of
- 6:10Speaker 4: all the teams, and you know, most of it obviously
- 6:13Speaker 4: doesn't get used, but I love in their anime they
- 6:15Speaker 4: had Urban Meyer as the you know, the Jaguar and
- 6:19Speaker 4: the same pose at the bar as Urban. I mean,
- 6:22Speaker 4: I missed that, to be honest. When I watched the anime.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I they talked about the Easter eggs and that was
- 6:26Speaker 3: definitely one of them, and it took me like the
- 6:28Speaker 3: second time they showed it, I didn't like the first
- 6:31Speaker 3: time I was looking at it as they're talking about it,
- 6:33Speaker 3: I was like, what what, Oh you know when it
- 6:36Speaker 3: was like light down's on Marblehead. Yeah, figured it out.
- 6:39Speaker 3: But I agree with Fred. I think they listen. We
- 6:44Speaker 3: have a little bit different restrictions here. You know, anything
- 6:47Speaker 3: that could possibly be deemed defensive to another team is
- 6:49Speaker 3: gonna not really pass muster here, and some other teams
- 6:52Speaker 3: get away with it a little bit more like like
- 6:54Speaker 3: the Saints and Falcons kill each other in social media
- 6:57Speaker 3: because they hate each other. I don't think we necessarily
- 7:00Speaker 3: can do that with the Jets right the way maybe
- 7:02Speaker 3: we want to write, but it is kind of funny
- 7:04Speaker 3: to see how they actually have.
- 7:06Speaker 4: A punching down. Paul. You know, you don't want to
- 7:08Speaker 4: be a bully.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Oh, I agree. I agree. It's not a rivalry unless
- 7:11Speaker 3: you lose. But the Chargers, like Fred said, they have
- 7:16Speaker 3: like a whole dust of things that they weren't allowed
- 7:18Speaker 3: to use, right, that they just used for their own enjoyment.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Like at first, I thought, oh, it's a burn book.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Whatever's in here, you got to burn it, But no,
- 7:25Speaker 4: it's the other way.
- 7:26Speaker 8: It's mean we're.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Going to burn rather team, right, Yeah, yeah kind of,
- 7:30Speaker 5: I got that right.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, so that's coming Thursday night at eight o'clock.
- 7:35Speaker 4: And yes, the Patriots will have their own video that
- 7:38Speaker 4: we're going to be releasing. We're very excited about it.
- 7:41Speaker 4: I'm not going to give away anything.
- 7:44Speaker 8: I'm not going to say a word.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Well you tried.
- 7:45Speaker 8: I did, wait, I did. I mentioned that there were people.
- 7:48Speaker 4: You stop, Just just don't mention anything.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Maybe it's animated.
- 7:54Speaker 3: How does it feel like this is? This is your
- 7:56Speaker 3: example of making noise when there was a shoot that
- 7:59Speaker 3: was our he done anyway? You know, so much so
- 8:03Speaker 3: that I made the Blooper wheel. Yeah, so can we
- 8:07Speaker 3: talk about the possibility of maybe a little news before Thursday? Right?
- 8:12Speaker 3: You got we should know?
- 8:13Speaker 4: We should morrow probably when or who our Germany game
- 8:18Speaker 4: will be probably tomorrow. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, okay,
- 8:23Speaker 4: so that'll be that'll be it first. Yeah, well I was.
- 8:27Speaker 6: I did the six Rings this morning and they asked me, oh,
- 8:29Speaker 6: what do you know, what are you looking forward to
- 8:30Speaker 6: with the schedule. I'm like, I don't know if it's
- 8:32Speaker 6: just because I'm getting old, but it's just like when
- 8:34Speaker 6: the games are and knowing like how to plan my fall,
- 8:37Speaker 6: Like I'm just excited to hear, like what's the preseason
- 8:39Speaker 6: to figure out that's where we're going, what we're doing.
- 8:42Speaker 5: That's why it shocks me so much that fans get
- 8:44Speaker 5: so revved up for the schedule release, because for for us,
- 8:49Speaker 5: I will fully admit, not to say that it don't
- 8:52Speaker 5: feel bad for me, but it's the next five months
- 8:55Speaker 5: of our lives that are planned out, you know, ahead
- 8:58Speaker 5: of time, and what the when of the prime time games?
- 9:00Speaker 5: When's the bye week? Whens Thursday night football?
- 9:03Speaker 6: Well you got to see what your what def con
- 9:05Speaker 6: your relationship is going to be at exactly schedule?
- 9:07Speaker 8: Like how many away gamey?
- 9:11Speaker 3: No more difficulty, you know, you probably have more things
- 9:15Speaker 3: that you're missing the Black Friday game, Like for you
- 9:18Speaker 3: and I Fred, we've been doing it for so long,
- 9:20Speaker 3: people just automatically assume, well, a weekend from September to February,
- 9:24Speaker 3: he's not available, you know, and then if it's a
- 9:27Speaker 3: bye week, oh bonus of.
- 9:28Speaker 8: The night games, you know, like one are the.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Short weeks I worry only about And last year was
- 9:34Speaker 3: true and this year will be true. The holidays, like
- 9:37Speaker 3: we played on Thanksgiving last year, we played on Christmas
- 9:40Speaker 3: Eve last year, there's a chance. There's a chance that
- 9:43Speaker 3: that could happen again both ways. It could be even
- 9:47Speaker 3: could be Christmas Day. There's going to be I think
- 9:49Speaker 3: a Christmas Night primetime game, and then.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I know there's the chefter tweet out there'll be a
- 9:56Speaker 4: Black Friday game.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and there's a triple header I think on
- 10:00Speaker 3: Christmas Day, which is a Monday. Yeah, that's what I.
- 10:05Speaker 6: Saw, well, like like an afternoon Monday game.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 10:09Speaker 6: I'd have to have to put that into the computer
- 10:11Speaker 6: and figure Outut, what how I feel about that one.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I would rather play on Monday than I would on Christmas.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Eve will say that, but so that's that to me.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I'll bet that.
- 10:21Speaker 4: As long as it's a home game. But if it's
- 10:23Speaker 4: an away game, then that screws that.
- 10:25Speaker 8: You're gonna fly by Sanna coming back.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I'm selfish show it's the opposite. Because Mike and I
- 10:29Speaker 3: are here in the studio. We could just get right
- 10:30Speaker 3: out of here, we do the show gone, you guys,
- 10:34Speaker 3: I understand, or be on the road.
- 10:35Speaker 5: We have Dallas in Dallas feels like a Thanksgiving could.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Be on Thanksgiving, but I would find it. I mean,
- 10:42Speaker 3: I don't think it will be just because we were
- 10:43Speaker 3: on Thanksgiving last year, but it can be. Yeah, absolutely,
- 10:47Speaker 3: we're one of the teams that could be on Thanksgiving
- 10:49Speaker 3: against Dallas.
- 10:50Speaker 6: And so there's no rule this year about you have
- 10:52Speaker 6: to be on primetime. Now is this the first year?
- 10:54Speaker 6: It's wide open and just kind of put the.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Belt have to be on primetime and you could be.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You could be Thursday twice like conventionally, not like last year,
- 11:02Speaker 3: like everybody's like what Patriots were on last year twice? No,
- 11:05Speaker 3: that doesn't count Thanksgiving and the opener don't count necessarily
- 11:09Speaker 3: as Thursday games.
- 11:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 6: Well, I thought they did a pretty good job last
- 11:12Speaker 6: year managing that at least where it was like Thursday
- 11:14Speaker 6: to Thursday and then a long week to Saturday.
- 11:16Speaker 8: You know they did it didn't seem like it would
- 11:17Speaker 8: be right.
- 11:18Speaker 3: But they don't have to do it that way anymore.
- 11:20Speaker 8: Now they can just do it.
- 11:21Speaker 3: They can do it. So you play Sunday week one,
- 11:23Speaker 3: Thursday Week two, Sunday Week three, Sunday Week four, Thursday
- 11:27Speaker 3: week five like that. That's the way it could go.
- 11:30Speaker 8: Now that could go That would be bad.
- 11:31Speaker 3: That's terrible. Yeah, it's terrible. I can't believe that they
- 11:34Speaker 3: let it go through. But yeah, money, do.
- 11:36Speaker 4: You think that in terms of the people at the
- 11:39Speaker 4: league that make the schedule, having that Thursday game and
- 11:43Speaker 4: now a Friday game helps them to have more options
- 11:47Speaker 4: or makes it even more complex.
- 11:48Speaker 6: I think it complicates it because you got to consider
- 11:51Speaker 6: like how much rest you're getting before and after, you know,
- 11:54Speaker 6: So it just adds a whole new kind of thing
- 11:55Speaker 6: into the equation where yeah, you have another option where
- 11:58Speaker 6: all right, we can stick this on a Friday, or
- 12:00Speaker 6: we can make it when one of the Christmas Monday games.
- 12:03Speaker 6: But I just think it's a resting you know, and
- 12:05Speaker 6: if you talk about injuries and wanting to, you know,
- 12:08Speaker 6: make it the best possible situation for the players to
- 12:10Speaker 6: be able to recover and perform at a high level
- 12:12Speaker 6: and so that these games are high quality. I think
- 12:14Speaker 6: it's challenging, and that's what I wonder. I know that
- 12:16Speaker 6: there was like they think they're going to release the schedule,
- 12:19Speaker 6: and then it was like they might not release the schedule,
- 12:20Speaker 6: and now they are going to be like I just
- 12:22Speaker 6: wonder if it's that stuff where they go through it
- 12:24Speaker 6: and they're like, well, team A kind of gets screwed
- 12:27Speaker 6: here in this part, and you know, at a certain
- 12:29Speaker 6: point they must just be like, all right, that's the
- 12:31Speaker 6: best we can do. Somebody's gonna have to get screwed
- 12:33Speaker 6: in this process just because of the games that we
- 12:36Speaker 6: have to fill.
- 12:36Speaker 3: And there's a lot of requests they get from teams,
- 12:39Speaker 3: you know, West coast teams, East coast teams that are
- 12:42Speaker 3: on the opposite coast multiple times. I know the Patriots
- 12:46Speaker 3: have frequently requested to have those back to back, and
- 12:50Speaker 3: they've been honored. So maybe you know that's a reason
- 12:54Speaker 3: that you get a stumbling block, is the Patriots asked
- 12:57Speaker 3: for say, Denver, Vegas back to.
- 12:59Speaker 5: Back, the one I'm looking at right, and then.
- 13:01Speaker 3: The league puts the schedule out for everybody to look at,
- 13:04Speaker 3: and those games aren't back to back. Well wait a minute, like,
- 13:07Speaker 3: can't we do that?
- 13:08Speaker 6: No?
- 13:08Speaker 3: Sorry, I can't please do it because you can't do
- 13:11Speaker 3: it for everybody. Now, my guess is those kinds of
- 13:13Speaker 3: things can be honored for anybody who asked for them.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Doesn't seem like to be heavy lifting. Another thing Matt
- 13:18Speaker 3: and Night, Matt, no socks, we're talking about yesterday was
- 13:23Speaker 3: the elimination of the conference being dictated on the network
- 13:26Speaker 3: So it used to be that, you know, AFC games
- 13:29Speaker 3: were on CBS, NFC games are on Fox, and if
- 13:32Speaker 3: it's an intraconference game, it was dictated by the home team,
- 13:35Speaker 3: so you know, whoever whoever it was the awake. Now
- 13:39Speaker 3: every game is open for any network, So I don't
- 13:42Speaker 3: know if that prevents the like the schedule from.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Coming out well every except for you know, Sunday night,
- 13:48Speaker 4: the prime time game, Sunday night, Monday night, Thursday night
- 13:51Speaker 4: are all different.
- 13:52Speaker 3: But the regular slate at one and four, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 3: you know, CBS has a double header one week, Fox
- 13:58Speaker 3: has a doubleheader the next. But those games, my guess
- 14:02Speaker 3: will they'll try to even out, say like a Buffalo,
- 14:05Speaker 3: Kansas City and Dallas San Francisco, not necessarily always on Fox,
- 14:10Speaker 3: always on.
- 14:10Speaker 4: I like that because it really adds clicks to the
- 14:13Speaker 4: how to watch page we publish every week. Now.
- 14:16Speaker 6: Is that entirely determined by the NFL? Or does the
- 14:18Speaker 6: networks have some kind of westworks.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I believe it's like a draft.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's that's what I'm wondering. I think Peter
- 14:27Speaker 3: King wrote it. Like Fred said, all the games are
- 14:29Speaker 3: technically free agents, and the networks are going to bid
- 14:32Speaker 3: on them me and my guess is they're going to
- 14:34Speaker 3: try to not bid on them, but they're going to try.
- 14:35Speaker 4: To have a lottery.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Yeah, they have Like, uh, I think it's a draft,
- 14:40Speaker 5: like a little old draft pick, Like wouldn't that be
- 14:43Speaker 5: the best way to do it? But is it a
- 14:46Speaker 5: snake draft or is it? I need to I need details.
- 14:50Speaker 3: In Week two, Fox selects Dallas.
- 14:54Speaker 5: At they'll televise that someday and it'll it'll do numbers.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Make a wish kid do one of But you're just
- 15:00Speaker 6: trying to do the games that aren't like specifically spoken
- 15:04Speaker 6: for as far as Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football,
- 15:06Speaker 6: like those games. Then you're just kind of fighting over
- 15:10Speaker 6: the scraps the every every weekend.
- 15:12Speaker 3: What are we going to do but the scraps before
- 15:14Speaker 3: the season.
- 15:14Speaker 8: That's before the season.
- 15:15Speaker 3: You see Kansas City. Kansas City plays every like on
- 15:20Speaker 3: paper marquee team, like they played Philly, they played Buffalo.
- 15:24Speaker 4: What happens when you're in first.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Right, But but you don't always play all the you know,
- 15:29Speaker 3: all the best team like they're playing Philadelphia, Like that
- 15:32Speaker 3: just lines up that they're playing Philadelphia and they played
- 15:34Speaker 3: who they just played in the Super Bowl, right, Like
- 15:36Speaker 3: that doesn't happen all the time, So like Fox and
- 15:39Speaker 3: CBS are probably going to want to spread some of
- 15:41Speaker 3: those out in addition to the ones that will be
- 15:44Speaker 3: on Prime Time now.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Peter King also had a story. Kansas City is the
- 15:49Speaker 4: other team that will be a home team in Germany
- 15:51Speaker 4: this year, so it'll be two games in Germany, and
- 15:53Speaker 4: Peter King was writing that there was a hold up
- 15:56Speaker 4: because Kansas City didn't want to play Chicago in Germany.
- 15:58Speaker 4: I'm like, why, what's the deal? Like, why Chicago? Why
- 16:02Speaker 4: do you want them at home? Like I could see
- 16:03Speaker 4: if it was the Bengals, you want to make sure
- 16:05Speaker 4: you play them in Arrowhead? But why why the Bears?
- 16:08Speaker 4: Why is that it's so important to play an Arrowhead?
- 16:10Speaker 4: That's weird? Yeah, it was weird.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Is how close is Kansas City to Chicago? Because that
- 16:17Speaker 3: relatively something that they want to try to take.
- 16:19Speaker 6: I mean, I don't I don't have an Atlas with me,
- 16:21Speaker 6: but I'm gonna see you know what I'm saying.
- 16:22Speaker 5: I had to do that.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Thank you make the Bears traveling.
- 16:26Speaker 5: One person understands Championship game. Remember the storm that happened
- 16:31Speaker 5: in Kansas City and I went to Kansas City to Chicago.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Remember that, Yeah, CLINICSNI back on Clinic's dime. Got to
- 16:41Speaker 3: take a bike to that gime r bike with Bar
- 16:46Speaker 3: and Alex on the back ringing the bell.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Actually it's actually tracks.
- 16:53Speaker 3: The tracks got off in Cincy.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, so so that's coming up. We talked
- 16:59Speaker 4: about availability today, also be availability on Thursday, and that'll.
- 17:04Speaker 6: Be who James Robinson's one of them. I'm not sure
- 17:07Speaker 6: if there was another one yet, but yeah, they're they're
- 17:09Speaker 6: rifle and yeah, so they mixed some of the older
- 17:13Speaker 6: leaders with some of the newer free agency faces. So yeah, curious,
- 17:17Speaker 6: uh what Board has to say about his special team's
- 17:20Speaker 6: prowess and the praise from Bibelo.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Do you think he's upset now that the Patriots drafted
- 17:24Speaker 3: all these special teams?
- 17:25Speaker 8: Competition, competition, baby brings out the best.
- 17:28Speaker 5: He does play some lineback stop it. Yeah, no, I
- 17:30Speaker 5: said competition. He does play some linebacker though he's not
- 17:33Speaker 5: just a special teamer. He's not. It's not Matthew Slater.
- 17:37Speaker 5: I think he will could play a little bit on
- 17:40Speaker 5: defense if they need, if they do.
- 17:42Speaker 6: You think, what do you think is the quickest side, though,
- 17:43Speaker 6: what do you think the trajectory of mac Wilson and
- 17:45Speaker 6: ray Kwa McMillan here is.
- 17:47Speaker 8: Last year we were so high on them and now
- 17:48Speaker 8: I kind of wonder if both.
- 17:49Speaker 6: Those guys are on the bubble. With between Mapoo the
- 17:52Speaker 6: guy on the draft, you know.
- 17:54Speaker 3: I think would tell you that they're on the bubble. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 3: especially mack Wilson.
- 17:59Speaker 5: I did a way too early, way too early roster
- 18:02Speaker 5: projection this morning and had mac Wilson off because to me,
- 18:06Speaker 5: it seems like it's between one of those guys gonna
- 18:10Speaker 5: make the team ray Kwan McMillan or mac Wilson. And
- 18:13Speaker 5: if you're looking at similar skill sets, Mapu is definitely
- 18:16Speaker 5: similar to mac Wilson than he is to ray Kwon McMillan,
- 18:19Speaker 5: and I just feel like that that could push it
- 18:22Speaker 5: mac Wilson off the roster if Mapu has a good summer.
- 18:24Speaker 4: And I just want to preempt any calls or emails.
- 18:28Speaker 4: We have no access to what they're doing and OTAs yet,
- 18:32Speaker 4: we'll have a day what May twenty May twenty fifth
- 18:37Speaker 4: we'll be able to watch an entire OTA practice and
- 18:40Speaker 4: then a couple more times before the man to toy
- 18:43Speaker 4: mini camps. So right now we don't know who's lining
- 18:45Speaker 4: up where, even if they're in shorts or anything like that.
- 18:47Speaker 4: I don't even know if they can do that. But
- 18:49Speaker 4: you know, so we don't have any access yet, so
- 18:52Speaker 4: we can't tell you who looks like what or anything
- 18:54Speaker 4: like that.
- 18:54Speaker 6: Yeah, but in two weeks, I mean, I think it's
- 18:56Speaker 6: like a Friday of Friday, a Thursday, something like that.
- 18:58Speaker 6: But last year, as Paul pointed out, they canceled I
- 19:01Speaker 6: think one of them, so.
- 19:02Speaker 8: We only had that was Mini Camp, but I think
- 19:04Speaker 8: we only had access to two OTAs too.
- 19:06Speaker 3: That is correct because the way it was set up
- 19:09Speaker 3: last year, and it's not always set up like this,
- 19:11Speaker 3: they had a group of OTAs, a group of OTAs
- 19:14Speaker 3: mandatory Mini camp, and a group of OTAs. That's the
- 19:17Speaker 3: way it was originally set up, and they ended up
- 19:20Speaker 3: canceling the third of the three days of mini camp,
- 19:22Speaker 3: and then that last batch of OTAs never happened. I
- 19:27Speaker 3: don't think for the team. I think he ended it
- 19:29Speaker 3: at the end of Mini camp and then they went
- 19:31Speaker 3: on their way.
- 19:32Speaker 6: It probably could have worked on the offense a little
- 19:33Speaker 6: bit more, but that's just you know, hindsight.
- 19:35Speaker 12: This.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Guy is just off. He's so mean.
- 19:41Speaker 5: Just for order of operations purposes this year, the last
- 19:44Speaker 5: OTA is on the ninth and then mandatory mini camps,
- 19:48Speaker 5: So maybe they they just more traditionally the way they
- 19:50Speaker 5: they reversed it so they didn't run into the situation
- 19:53Speaker 5: that Paul.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Now, there really is no difference between OTA's and mini
- 19:56Speaker 3: camp other than the fact that mini camp, when they
- 19:58Speaker 3: actually call it mini camp, his mandatory right for the
- 20:01Speaker 3: players to be there, right, But they're not doing anything
- 20:04Speaker 3: different on the field than they would do if they
- 20:06Speaker 3: called it an ot A, you know.
- 20:07Speaker 4: And last pad on the third day mini camp, Bill
- 20:10Speaker 4: shortened it, and oh, he's going soft, he's going soft.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And evidently Mike just so agrees.
- 20:19Speaker 4: We got in that one found out by league.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Rules running outside the zone, and that.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Mister star Wars is trying to explain something we.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Found out by league rules. During the three days of
- 20:31Speaker 4: mandatory mini camp, you're allowed twenty four hours with the team,
- 20:35Speaker 4: and you can divvy that up any way you want.
- 20:37Speaker 4: So what Bill decided to do is give them a
- 20:39Speaker 4: look of what our typical day is, which is ten hours.
- 20:42Speaker 4: So the first date two days were ten hour days.
- 20:45Speaker 4: You had four hours left over. They used it for
- 20:48Speaker 4: whatever on the third day and let him go.
- 20:50Speaker 3: They went bowling. Yeah, I think they didn't work on
- 20:53Speaker 3: the offense.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Right that we're done there.
- 20:55Speaker 4: So that's the league rule. You're allowed twenty more hoursanatory
- 20:58Speaker 4: mini camp.
- 20:59Speaker 3: You know wrong. I didn't say you were wrong. I
- 21:02Speaker 3: just said you would mean.
- 21:03Speaker 5: With the schedule that I do wonder and uh, again,
- 21:05Speaker 5: this is not to feel bad for any of us,
- 21:07Speaker 5: but Vasha was the first time that I traveled to
- 21:11Speaker 5: almost every game. COVID got me for one, but almost
- 21:14Speaker 5: for every game in my career. And by the time
- 21:17Speaker 5: we got to Vegas after the week in Arizona and
- 21:22Speaker 5: being an air, I didn't even play and I was tired,
- 21:27Speaker 5: Like you know what I mean, And I do wonder
- 21:30Speaker 5: if again it's all rumors, but there are some rumors
- 21:34Speaker 5: about joint practices on the road, and then we have
- 21:38Speaker 5: Germany and like there's a lot of a travel that
- 21:42Speaker 5: goes into it, and you were taught. We were talking
- 21:43Speaker 5: about the Denver Vegas back to back potentially also being
- 21:48Speaker 5: on the road, which would make sense. But at what point,
- 21:51Speaker 5: I wonder, is that a competitive disadvantage to have the
- 21:55Speaker 5: team for four or five weeks every season, be mobile,
- 22:00Speaker 5: you know, be on the road and be staying in
- 22:01Speaker 5: hotel rooms and practicing.
- 22:03Speaker 8: Miami plus with Miami. In Week one, that whole thing.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Was right, I would that was the one that COVID
- 22:07Speaker 5: got me. So I wasn't at that one. Alex was there,
- 22:10Speaker 5: but that would have that would have really added onto
- 22:13Speaker 5: the play too, I think, you know, for them. And
- 22:16Speaker 5: I just wonder at what point I'm not saying that
- 22:19Speaker 5: they lost in Vegas because of that by any stretch
- 22:23Speaker 5: of the imagination, especially the way that they lost. But
- 22:26Speaker 5: going into that Vegas game, I was tired, and I
- 22:30Speaker 5: can only imagine how tired they all were, and I
- 22:33Speaker 5: was starting to wonder, how can you really expect them
- 22:36Speaker 5: to be super competitive? And then they started the game
- 22:39Speaker 5: extremely flat, and I was not surprised at all.
- 22:41Speaker 3: It's something like five down the stretch.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Too, right, Yeah, I mean, I wasn't surprised. They were
- 22:47Speaker 5: down what twenty to three to Vegas right before they
- 22:50Speaker 5: they they came back and made it a game late,
- 22:52Speaker 5: and I was not surprised one bit that it was
- 22:55Speaker 5: that they came out flat, because it's a lot, you.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Know, because the rumors are, like you said, there might
- 22:59Speaker 4: be two joint practices on the roads. Yeah, that's a
- 23:02Speaker 4: lot of time away. And then if you add back
- 23:07Speaker 4: to back during the season and Germany and Germany, I
- 23:10Speaker 4: don't know, maybe they might not do the back to
- 23:12Speaker 4: back just because of that, because it's like, yeah, and.
- 23:16Speaker 3: We didn't talk about it last week at all, but
- 23:18Speaker 3: there have been stories about the potential preseason stuff, right,
- 23:22Speaker 3: so that's out there green Bay and story that there
- 23:26Speaker 3: was going to be a joint and there's yeah, there's
- 23:27Speaker 3: talks that we're going to be doing joint practices in
- 23:29Speaker 3: both Green Bay and Nashville. Yeah. So yeah, I mean,
- 23:36Speaker 3: I think the one that that seemed to not go
- 23:39Speaker 3: over well with the players themselves last year was the
- 23:41Speaker 3: opener with Miami. Yeah, the players didn't seem to like
- 23:44Speaker 3: being there.
- 23:45Speaker 6: It's just a fine line I think between you know,
- 23:47Speaker 6: a coaching staff trying to get their team together and
- 23:50Speaker 6: you know kind of have a little bit of time
- 23:51Speaker 6: away and you're traveling and you're kind of you know,
- 23:54Speaker 6: stuck with each other somewhat. But I do I think
- 23:56Speaker 6: to Evan's point, you can go too far with it,
- 23:58Speaker 6: and you know, they did a lot of it last year,
- 24:00Speaker 6: and last year certainly didn't seem like one of those
- 24:03Speaker 6: Patriots teams that were, you know, ready to rally around
- 24:06Speaker 6: each other. It seemed if anything, you know, I mean,
- 24:08Speaker 6: maybe they did rally around each other, but it was,
- 24:10Speaker 6: you know, not against their opponents. It was kind of
- 24:12Speaker 6: against what that was going on on the offensive side
- 24:14Speaker 6: of the ball.
- 24:14Speaker 4: But I think, you know, in the past, they've done that,
- 24:17Speaker 4: and I remember, you know, oh, it was great, you know,
- 24:20Speaker 4: we bonded, it was great camaraderie, you know. But I
- 24:23Speaker 4: think a lot of the success of those back to
- 24:26Speaker 4: back games on the road are who's who's your leadership?
- 24:30Speaker 4: What does that look like? You know, how do they
- 24:32Speaker 4: keep guys engaged all week? How do they keep them
- 24:34Speaker 4: you know, energized and not hope wishing they were home
- 24:38Speaker 4: and all that. You know, I'm not sure that last
- 24:41Speaker 4: year that same leadership existed as maybe ten years ago.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Yeah, That's exactly where I'm coming from. And I just
- 24:47Speaker 5: remember last year win in Arizona. Then after the primetime
- 24:52Speaker 5: game in Arizona, we got on a bus and drove
- 24:54Speaker 5: two hours on a bus, got to the place that
- 24:57Speaker 5: we were going to stay for the week in Arizona,
- 24:59Speaker 5: And this whole time, I'm thinking in my head, if
- 25:01Speaker 5: I'm a player right now, this is a lot, Like
- 25:04Speaker 5: it's a lot for me and I don't even play,
- 25:06Speaker 5: so like, this is a lot for the players. And
- 25:08Speaker 5: then we talked to some of the players during the
- 25:10Speaker 5: week in Arizona and they mentioned just how much it
- 25:13Speaker 5: throws off their routines. You know, they don't have their routines,
- 25:17Speaker 5: they don't have their messuses and trainers and people around them,
- 25:22Speaker 5: you know, or they have to bring them out, you know,
- 25:24Speaker 5: to be out there with them. And I just I
- 25:27Speaker 5: don't know. I think that there is a line where
- 25:30Speaker 5: it becomes too much. And I go back to that
- 25:33Speaker 5: Vegas game and think about how it started, how it ended,
- 25:36Speaker 5: and you just wonder how locked in truly was that
- 25:39Speaker 5: team at that point after spending so much time on
- 25:42Speaker 5: the road all.
- 25:43Speaker 6: Season, and compare it to the to the game you
- 25:45Speaker 6: guys talk a lot about, you know, the Green Bay
- 25:47Speaker 6: San Diego back to back in twenty fourteen, where lost
- 25:50Speaker 6: a tough game to Green Bay up there, and I
- 25:52Speaker 6: mean it was the last time they lost that season.
- 25:54Speaker 6: But then went to that you know, that Chargers game
- 25:56Speaker 6: which I was at and I mean they you know,
- 25:58Speaker 6: they played great, so you know, you contrast kind of
- 26:01Speaker 6: a team.
- 26:01Speaker 8: Heading in two different directions, you know, in those.
- 26:04Speaker 3: But I'm also thinking, I'm well, you know, like kind
- 26:06Speaker 3: of interested in the logistics because I wasn't part of
- 26:08Speaker 3: that trip last year, and if the way Evan's describing it,
- 26:11Speaker 3: and I didn't realize that, like Green Bay, you you know,
- 26:15Speaker 3: the game ends, You're getting on the bus. You going
- 26:17Speaker 3: to the airport, just like any other game on when
- 26:19Speaker 3: you're traveling in a different direction than you would to
- 26:21Speaker 3: go home. So you're getting on a plane just like
- 26:23Speaker 3: normal when you're landing somewhere, only you're away from home
- 26:26Speaker 3: and you're gonna practice there. This two hour bus ride.
- 26:29Speaker 3: To me, if logistically, if you can't get to where
- 26:32Speaker 3: you're supposed to be easier than that, I'm not sure
- 26:35Speaker 3: it's worth it.
- 26:35Speaker 4: Yeah, where's that bus ride too?
- 26:37Speaker 13: Like?
- 26:37Speaker 8: What was that from?
- 26:37Speaker 5: So we got Tucson or something, So we went Where's
- 26:41Speaker 5: is Glendale?
- 26:42Speaker 4: Right?
- 26:42Speaker 5: Arizona?
- 26:43Speaker 13: Right?
- 26:43Speaker 5: And then we went to Tucson and we got on
- 26:46Speaker 5: the buses right after Monday night football game. So East
- 26:50Speaker 5: coast bodyclock, this is midnight, right, twelve thirty something like that,
- 26:54Speaker 5: and then we drove on the buses I want to say,
- 26:57Speaker 5: almost two hours to where a beauty resort. I will
- 27:00Speaker 5: say that like thank you for that. That was awesome,
- 27:03Speaker 5: But we're in Tucson and that's where we practiced for
- 27:07Speaker 5: the week, was in Tucson at the University of Arizona.
- 27:10Speaker 5: And that bus ride it was tough, like you know,
- 27:15Speaker 5: and I do wonder maybe if you do something like that,
- 27:18Speaker 5: do you stay over the extra night after the game
- 27:22Speaker 5: locally and then take the bus ride at eight am
- 27:25Speaker 5: the next morning? Or I understand their outage of just
- 27:28Speaker 5: let's just get there and let's you know, deal with
- 27:31Speaker 5: it on the back end, but I wonder if that
- 27:33Speaker 5: would have maybe made it a little bit easier for
- 27:36Speaker 5: the players to stay over in Glendale that night and
- 27:40Speaker 5: then go Monday more or Tuesday morning. But with the
- 27:43Speaker 5: extra I think with the short week, it doubt that
- 27:46Speaker 5: puts you a little even further behind the eight ball
- 27:48Speaker 5: in terms of preparation. But I you know, they can
- 27:51Speaker 5: load up the tablets and all that stuff on the
- 27:54Speaker 5: bus and pass them out and have people you know,
- 27:56Speaker 5: going over game plans and things like that on buses.
- 27:58Speaker 5: I would imagine, so It's gotta be.
- 28:00Speaker 8: Tough, though, to be a giant football player.
- 28:02Speaker 6: And I know it's hard enough getting on the plane,
- 28:04Speaker 6: which is you know, specifically built for this and has
- 28:06Speaker 6: a little bit of extra room, but like an average
- 28:08Speaker 6: tour bus with like a three hundred pound guy right
- 28:12Speaker 6: after playing a game, I'm feeling all banged up and
- 28:15Speaker 6: for two hours.
- 28:16Speaker 3: They end the Arizona game, they get on the bus,
- 28:18Speaker 3: they go to the airport, they fly to Vegas and
- 28:20Speaker 3: they practiced there. Yeah, like for the week. I think
- 28:23Speaker 3: that would have been a better rule.
- 28:24Speaker 4: They want him in Vegas.
- 28:26Speaker 5: We were already in the Vegas for a week once. Yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 5: they That was interesting too, is to that point. We
- 28:33Speaker 5: were only in Vegas for one night of that whole stretch.
- 28:36Speaker 5: Saturday night before the Sunday Vegas game was the only
- 28:39Speaker 5: time that we spent in Vegas. We all went to
- 28:41Speaker 5: the Golden Night's game actually that that night, which was
- 28:44Speaker 5: a lot of fun.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I did.
- 28:48Speaker 5: I did a standing ovation for for Butcher and everybody
- 28:51Speaker 5: looked at me like I was crazy, And I was like,
- 28:52Speaker 5: PRIs Cassidy, what do you what do you mean?
- 28:54Speaker 3: Despite being mean to his players, they're a second round
- 28:57Speaker 3: but those things.
- 28:58Speaker 5: I wondered very I just wonder how how much they
- 29:00Speaker 5: look back on those things. And you know, Bill, he's
- 29:02Speaker 5: looking at everything, right, So how much do they look
- 29:05Speaker 5: back at that and say, maybe if we do that
- 29:07Speaker 5: differently this time, right?
- 29:08Speaker 8: But that's my guess.
- 29:09Speaker 6: What my question is going to be is how different
- 29:11Speaker 6: can you do it? Because you're just kind of beholden
- 29:13Speaker 6: to what the schedule is and if you have back
- 29:14Speaker 6: to back games, you know, at Dallas and Denver or
- 29:18Speaker 6: Vegas and Denver, like either you're staying out there for
- 29:20Speaker 6: a full week, or you're doing a double trip on
- 29:23Speaker 6: a plane. You know, Like there's no real easy answer,
- 29:25Speaker 6: like there's no simple way to do.
- 29:27Speaker 8: I mean, I think some of it last.
- 29:28Speaker 6: Year was a little bit self inflicted, like why are
- 29:30Speaker 6: we flying to Vegas in the middle of summer for
- 29:32Speaker 6: joint practices?
- 29:32Speaker 8: Like when you have a season when you already know there's.
- 29:34Speaker 6: Going to be travel, but you know you're going to
- 29:37Speaker 6: Germany this year. You've got the back I mean, Dallas, Denver, Vegas.
- 29:39Speaker 6: You got three teams that are essentially West Coast.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Completely agree with you. And I think that was the
- 29:43Speaker 3: point that Evan was trying to make. I thought there
- 29:45Speaker 3: was something, ever did it there was something unnecessary?
- 29:49Speaker 4: And then then, as Evan said, now you mix in
- 29:52Speaker 4: Germany this year, maybe you really think twice before you
- 29:55Speaker 4: start doing these back to backs and well, and you know.
- 29:58Speaker 6: At least it sounds though like it seems Germany is
- 30:00Speaker 6: going to be in November, and I mean, I guess
- 30:02Speaker 6: I think the buye is probably after that.
- 30:03Speaker 8: So I think the.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Germany public back doesn't bug me at all. But I
- 30:07Speaker 3: do wonder about traveling to Green Bay, for that's a
- 30:09Speaker 3: little bit longer than what normally do in the preseason.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Tennessee is kind of a semi regular preseason part and
- 30:16Speaker 3: we've played them in the past. But joint practices in
- 30:19Speaker 3: both on the road as opposed to joint practices with
- 30:22Speaker 3: somebody at home, right, you know, so to lighten that
- 30:26Speaker 3: travel the back to back, if it's Dallas, not Dallas, Denver, Vegas, Denver,
- 30:31Speaker 3: which to me would make sense geographically, that's better than
- 30:35Speaker 3: going back and forth twice. I totally understand why teams
- 30:37Speaker 3: like to do that. The ones that do not. Everyone does,
- 30:40Speaker 3: but the ones that do that, to me makes more sense.
- 30:43Speaker 5: But is it better to not request it and play
- 30:47Speaker 5: Denver in September and then play Vegas in December and
- 30:51Speaker 5: not sure and not worry about staying out.
- 30:54Speaker 4: It was that year that you know, Sure obviously has
- 30:57Speaker 4: the same you know rotation, And was that year that
- 31:00Speaker 4: the Patriots requested back to back and the Jets complained
- 31:03Speaker 4: because they had the same travel thing. It's like, oh,
- 31:06Speaker 4: we have to do this twice. It's like, well, we
- 31:08Speaker 4: asked for it, you didn't, you know?
- 31:10Speaker 8: That was that like eight maybe when they were like
- 31:13Speaker 8: they had.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Like the Jets were like, how come the Patriot because
- 31:15Speaker 4: they asked.
- 31:16Speaker 3: For it and they get whatever they ask.
- 31:18Speaker 5: And I will say, like, there's definitely advantages to staying
- 31:22Speaker 5: like it was. You're all under one roof, and there
- 31:25Speaker 5: is definitely a team camarade, like there's nothing else to
- 31:28Speaker 5: do besides to hang out, you know, for us to
- 31:30Speaker 5: hang out with coworkers and for them to hang out
- 31:32Speaker 5: with each other, like there's literally nothing else to do.
- 31:35Speaker 5: So there's certainly something to that as well. But I
- 31:37Speaker 5: think the Friend's point unless you have real strong leadership
- 31:41Speaker 5: that's like we're doing this and you know, we're gonna
- 31:43Speaker 5: make the best of it and most of it, then
- 31:46Speaker 5: maybe maybe it's something that you look back on and say,
- 31:49Speaker 5: wasn't that And not to.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Get too deep into inside baseball, but in the preseason,
- 31:53Speaker 4: when you're traveling, you're traveling with ninety guys, so the
- 31:56Speaker 4: planes more crowded. You know, there's more staff because there's
- 31:59Speaker 4: more people.
- 32:00Speaker 3: But even the facility like so you're you're working out,
- 32:03Speaker 3: you're you're on the road, working out in a foreign
- 32:06Speaker 3: place that's not really equipped for two full teams yea.
- 32:09Speaker 3: And not only it's two full teams, it's double the
- 32:11Speaker 3: size of two full teams yep. So to you a point,
- 32:14Speaker 3: like having those ninety guys there, that does make it.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I think one other thing too, I want that's when
- 32:18Speaker 3: you saw Derek Henry.
- 32:19Speaker 4: And fell hopefully this year.
- 32:22Speaker 6: One other thing though, to highlight what Evan said, was
- 32:24Speaker 6: just I find it interesting you talk to so many
- 32:27Speaker 6: like rookies, guys that come into the league and they're like,
- 32:29Speaker 6: you know, how did you how did you assimilate? And
- 32:31Speaker 6: they always say find a routine. Like I talked to
- 32:33Speaker 6: the veterans. The veterans are always like, get your routine
- 32:36Speaker 6: down like that. You know, it's such an important thing
- 32:38Speaker 6: for these players to have that every day.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I know, Monday.
- 32:41Speaker 6: I know what I'm going to be doing, and I
- 32:42Speaker 6: think that that's that's an underrated part of it. I
- 32:45Speaker 6: know I'm an old man now and I feel like
- 32:46Speaker 6: like anytime my routine gets screwed up and I can't
- 32:48Speaker 6: have my right breakfast, I'm like, I'm on the room.
- 32:50Speaker 4: I'm off all day to day.
- 32:51Speaker 3: You know, we were talking. We had a meeting before
- 32:53Speaker 3: the show, and they're getting ready to sort of map
- 32:55Speaker 3: out what we're going to be doing this spring with
- 32:57Speaker 3: the OTAs and in Mini Camp, and Fred at, yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 3: we're gonna do live broadcasts at Mini Camp again like
- 33:03Speaker 3: we did last year. And I was like incredulous. I
- 33:06Speaker 3: was like, I don't, I don't ever remember doing but
- 33:09Speaker 3: because that that's not my routine, I normally sit on
- 33:12Speaker 3: the hill and I watched I watched those practices, and
- 33:15Speaker 3: Fred was right, we did live broadcasts from Mini Camp
- 33:18Speaker 3: last year. So just to your point, when you're in
- 33:21Speaker 3: a routine, sometimes even when you're not doing anything, it's
- 33:24Speaker 3: it's it's jarring to just Okay, we got to do
- 33:28Speaker 3: it different, Paul. We have to do it different this year.
- 33:31Speaker 3: I know, I know you've done it this way for
- 33:33Speaker 3: twenty you have to do it different. The players are
- 33:35Speaker 3: the same because even though they might be young players
- 33:37Speaker 3: in the league two three years in, they've done it
- 33:40Speaker 3: the same way. In college, they've done it the same one.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Didn't Christian Gonzalez talk to us a little bit about
- 33:45Speaker 3: that when we had him on the show the day after?
- 33:47Speaker 3: Wasn't he the one that was talking about some one
- 33:49Speaker 3: of the veteran college players talked to him about a
- 33:52Speaker 3: routine Or maybe I'm mixing that.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Up with talked I remember that.
- 33:57Speaker 3: But I do remember that kind of a conversation. Just,
- 33:59Speaker 3: you know, find something that works for you and then
- 34:02Speaker 3: stick with it. Yeah, you know, whether it be practice, game,
- 34:06Speaker 3: whatever it is, it's not superstitious routine. It's routine to
- 34:10Speaker 3: get your body and mind ready to play.
- 34:12Speaker 5: Yeah. I remember speaking to some of the players out
- 34:14Speaker 5: in Arizona and they said, you know, if it's Wednesday
- 34:17Speaker 5: at four o'clock and Wednesday at four o'clock, you take
- 34:19Speaker 5: a nap. When we're here at Wednesday four o'clock, take
- 34:22Speaker 5: a nap, like you know, right, you know, do the
- 34:25Speaker 5: same exact thing that you would do at home. But
- 34:28Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is is that a lot
- 34:29Speaker 5: of these players as we know, have their own trainers,
- 34:33Speaker 5: have their own messuses, have their own family obviously, families
- 34:39Speaker 5: do all that, they'd have their routines here that cannot
- 34:42Speaker 5: you can't possibly replicate the routine on the road, So
- 34:47Speaker 5: it is a tricky s time change.
- 34:51Speaker 4: Is the ACE ticket hout line web radio at Patriots
- 34:54Speaker 4: dot Com. A's email addressed, did you guys, are you
- 34:56Speaker 4: going to eat?
- 34:57Speaker 3: We did not order anything for food, so.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Breaks whenever I want to take a break.
- 35:01Speaker 8: Yes, yeah, I'm going to duck out a little before
- 35:03Speaker 8: one to go go listen to do you.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Guys want to just throw it out there for just
- 35:06Speaker 3: for fun?
- 35:07Speaker 13: Uh?
- 35:07Speaker 3: Predict the opener, just have fun with it.
- 35:09Speaker 4: Predict the open.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Do you want to wait? We could wait for Thursday
- 35:12Speaker 3: for that because we won't have the schedule on Thursday either.
- 35:14Speaker 8: Yeah, we might have inside information.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Friend mind I won't, No, you won't, I won't.
- 35:18Speaker 3: I'm just going to find out in September. I hope
- 35:21Speaker 3: it's not again. I was just about to say my
- 35:23Speaker 3: stale on that.
- 35:24Speaker 8: But I'd be in for the Jets. I'd be in
- 35:26Speaker 8: for like opening at.
- 35:27Speaker 3: The gym lately Monday Monday night at the Jets I'm predicting.
- 35:30Speaker 4: There was a stretch where Miami at home was the
- 35:32Speaker 4: opener and then it got switched. No, Miami on the
- 35:36Speaker 4: road was the opener and then it got switched to
- 35:38Speaker 4: Miami later in the season. Last few years. I don't know,
- 35:42Speaker 4: like we can we can predict the opener now, you know,
- 35:45Speaker 4: we could do it again Thursday.
- 35:46Speaker 6: You know, I think there's some juice there. I mean,
- 35:48Speaker 6: I don't think it'll be Philly.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Is it three years in a row? Twenty and twenty
- 35:51Speaker 3: one were home against Miami. Last year was at Miami,
- 35:54Speaker 3: right right, right, Yeah, three years in a row.
- 35:56Speaker 8: Yeah, Cam Newton.
- 35:58Speaker 5: It's it's calm new I do think that would be
- 36:00Speaker 5: fun to Aaron Rodgers' first game with the Jets trying
- 36:04Speaker 5: to break the fourteen game losing streak against the Patriots.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Monday Night Jets Jets. That could be because the Jets
- 36:12Speaker 3: are probably going to have some primetime games that they're
- 36:14Speaker 3: not used to because they've been so bad. Yeah, and
- 36:17Speaker 3: you probably want to get some of them early in
- 36:18Speaker 3: the season just in case it doesn't work.
- 36:20Speaker 4: And and I guess you know, I think we talked
- 36:24Speaker 4: about it here. There was a hold up in getting
- 36:26Speaker 4: this schedule ready this year because they were waiting for
- 36:29Speaker 4: Rogers and Lamar and once that happened, then things fell
- 36:32Speaker 4: in place. But they wanted to see how many primetime
- 36:35Speaker 4: games those two teams were going to have, you know,
- 36:38Speaker 4: and that was the hold up. All right, let's get
- 36:41Speaker 4: to the phones and emails. Let's go to Todd and Greenville.
- 36:44Speaker 4: What's up Todd?
- 36:47Speaker 9: Hey, guys, I just got a quick question. I was
- 36:50Speaker 9: just thinking about, you know, with additions and stuff that
- 36:52Speaker 9: the changes, what what's the best comparison whether it's you know,
- 36:57Speaker 9: an older Patriots team from here is gone by, or
- 36:59Speaker 9: if it's somebody else, what do you think the style
- 37:02Speaker 9: of offense that Bill O'Brien's going to implement here? Is
- 37:04Speaker 9: it going to be run to pass under just some
- 37:07Speaker 9: sort of very interesting, kind of gimmicky or different form.
- 37:12Speaker 9: So after this is kind of after what Juju said,
- 37:15Speaker 9: that's kind of made my brain think of like, what
- 37:17Speaker 9: exactly do you guys think they're going to do? I
- 37:19Speaker 9: think guys will take downs are off there.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Okay, what are they going to do it?
- 37:23Speaker 5: That's a good question. I read an interesting piece by
- 37:26Speaker 5: Stephen Ruiz on The Ringer about this, and I didn't
- 37:30Speaker 5: disagree with his general premise. I obviously had my my
- 37:33Speaker 5: nitpicks about the article, but the general premise was just
- 37:36Speaker 5: that personnel wise, it on paper, what guys do when
- 37:40Speaker 5: roles and things like that really hasn't changed all that
- 37:43Speaker 5: much from last year. They don't they still don't have
- 37:45Speaker 5: a traditional fullback, so they're not going to be this
- 37:48Speaker 5: Josh McDaniels under center, power eye play action off of
- 37:52Speaker 5: it type of offense. It's not really Bill O'Brien's m
- 37:55Speaker 5: O to begin with. So Ruiz's point was just how
- 37:59Speaker 5: much can how much better is the offense gonna be
- 38:03Speaker 5: if it's basically the same overall concept of what they
- 38:07Speaker 5: were trying to accomplish last year, just with a better
- 38:10Speaker 5: coach running it. And it's an interesting question. I don't
- 38:15Speaker 5: think that they're gonna go and be extremely play action heavy.
- 38:18Speaker 5: That's not Bill O'Brien's background. He is a spread, shotgun
- 38:22Speaker 5: style offensive coordinator, somebody that likes to be an empty
- 38:25Speaker 5: that likes to be in the gun. So is it
- 38:27Speaker 5: gonna look kind of similar in some ways personnel wise,
- 38:31Speaker 5: tendency wise, how much they call run, how much they
- 38:34Speaker 5: call play action? Like probably I don't think that we're
- 38:37Speaker 5: gonna get into the season a month in and have
- 38:39Speaker 5: crazy splits where mac is play action forty percent of
- 38:43Speaker 5: the time after he was sixteen percent last last year.
- 38:46Speaker 4: So yeah, I the problem with the Patriots offense is
- 38:50Speaker 4: they don't have that one star, whether it's the quarterback
- 38:53Speaker 4: or a wide receiver that you could say, okay, well,
- 38:56Speaker 4: the offense revolves around this one player. You know, they don't.
- 38:59Speaker 4: We don't have Jamar Chase, you know. So I think
- 39:02Speaker 4: I think Evan's right. I think, you know, it's not
- 39:05Speaker 4: gonna look that different than what we've seen, other than
- 39:08Speaker 4: it might just be MOREX you know, the execution might
- 39:12Speaker 4: look better. You know, you're gonna have to mix it up.
- 39:16Speaker 4: We know what they're not gonna do. They're not going
- 39:18Speaker 4: to be a you know, a mobile quarterback offense because
- 39:21Speaker 4: that's not mac Uh and they're not going to be
- 39:25Speaker 4: I don't think, at least right now. They can't be
- 39:27Speaker 4: too vertical because no one's proven that they can do
- 39:29Speaker 4: that yet, you know, so they're gonna have to mix
- 39:32Speaker 4: and match. I think it's gonna be a lot of short,
- 39:34Speaker 4: past high percentage passes like they've done in the past.
- 39:37Speaker 4: You know, and I think that you know, they'll play,
- 39:39Speaker 4: they'll work the middle of the field. I hope with
- 39:41Speaker 4: Gaseki now in the mix along with Hunter, I think,
- 39:45Speaker 4: you know, though, they'll try to own the middle of
- 39:48Speaker 4: the field there. But like to put a name on
- 39:51Speaker 4: the offense is really hard because there's no one guy
- 39:54Speaker 4: or even two guys that like these are matchup problems
- 39:58Speaker 4: for defense.
- 39:58Speaker 8: I'm interested to see how Gai is.
- 40:00Speaker 6: I mean, it's just it feels like John Hu Smith
- 40:02Speaker 6: by the end was just kind of a weight around
- 40:04Speaker 6: your neck that you felt like we got to try
- 40:06Speaker 6: to get him involved.
- 40:07Speaker 8: You know, it's like every week you already get jun
- 40:08Speaker 8: and we get him involved. You know, it's just nice
- 40:10Speaker 8: to kind of not worry about that now. And and
- 40:12Speaker 8: you know he.
- 40:13Speaker 6: Had such a specific set of skills, Johonhu Smith, did
- 40:16Speaker 6: you know that You're like, here we go, you try
- 40:18Speaker 6: to dump it off a little screen pass to him.
- 40:20Speaker 6: So that I just wonder where the changes are going
- 40:23Speaker 6: to live within GASICKI and I just I wonder about Thornton,
- 40:25Speaker 6: you know what is I mean, I think some of them,
- 40:28Speaker 6: maybe the decision not to get a receiver higher in
- 40:31Speaker 6: this draft might have you know, been a little bit
- 40:33Speaker 6: connected to Thornton if they like him and they feel like, hey,
- 40:36Speaker 6: we you know, used the high round draft back on
- 40:37Speaker 6: the receiver last year.
- 40:38Speaker 8: We like this kid. You know, what does that look like?
- 40:41Speaker 8: What is he what is his involvement in the offense
- 40:43Speaker 8: look like?
- 40:44Speaker 6: If Bill Bill O'Brien takes a liking to him and says,
- 40:46Speaker 6: you know, not necessarily he's the number one guy that
- 40:48Speaker 6: everything's going to go through, but hey, this is a
- 40:50Speaker 6: piece that we can kind of play with.
- 40:52Speaker 4: What would you rather see with Thornton? Like right out
- 40:55Speaker 4: of the gate, they try to establish him as a
- 40:57Speaker 4: deep threat or they build themselves to that, you know.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Month into this, I'd like to just see him out
- 41:05Speaker 3: there right from the one way he's a contributor. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:08Speaker 3: I don't think it matters that as long as he's
- 41:10Speaker 3: a contributor.
- 41:11Speaker 4: Because what I'm afraid is is they try to establish
- 41:14Speaker 4: it right away, it doesn't work, and they don't do
- 41:16Speaker 4: it again. You know, they forget about it.
- 41:18Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, see, but that would be a bad sign.
- 41:21Speaker 3: I totally agree with you, but I think that you
- 41:24Speaker 3: you look at it as like, well, they tried to
- 41:25Speaker 3: do it and then they just forget about it. My
- 41:28Speaker 3: guess is if that's what they try to do and
- 41:30Speaker 3: it doesn't work and they don't do anything else with him,
- 41:32Speaker 3: they don't think he's capable of anything else, do you
- 41:35Speaker 3: know what I mean? They think now, I don't think
- 41:38Speaker 3: that will happen. I think I saw enough last year.
- 41:40Speaker 3: It seemed like they were trying to get him integrated
- 41:43Speaker 3: and shorter stuff and across the middle. I think, almost
- 41:46Speaker 3: to a fault. I think maybe a little less of
- 41:49Speaker 3: that and a little bit more outside or down the field,
- 41:52Speaker 3: like what they have to have him crack blocks, like
- 41:54Speaker 3: what I mean, And I get like the idea of
- 41:57Speaker 3: having a guy that runs like that, that can catch
- 41:59Speaker 3: a crossing route in stride and you know, make a
- 42:02Speaker 3: make a big play. I just look, I look at
- 42:04Speaker 3: some of the guys, you know, and I hate to
- 42:07Speaker 3: do this because it's so unfavorable. Like you look at
- 42:09Speaker 3: a guy like Tyreek Hill, and I get it, there's
- 42:12Speaker 3: one Tyreek Hill in the league. Okay, I'm not trying
- 42:14Speaker 3: to say that Taekwon Thornton's you know, he's a bus
- 42:17Speaker 3: because he's not Tyreek Hill. That's not what I'm saying.
- 42:20Speaker 3: But he's so much sturdier Tyreek Hill. Yeah, yeah, like
- 42:24Speaker 3: it's not even just the speed in the center of gravity,
- 42:26Speaker 3: like he can get hit and I don't think now
- 42:28Speaker 3: Tyreek Hill has had his share of injuries too because
- 42:30Speaker 3: he's small, but he looks to me so much stouter, Yeah, thick,
- 42:36Speaker 3: like he can take a hit or two coming across
- 42:38Speaker 3: the middle. I don't like. I like cover my eyes
- 42:41Speaker 3: when when Taekwon Thornton gets.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Wrapped around the problem is I think he does too well.
- 42:45Speaker 3: I'm not saying I'm not saying that. I'm just saying
- 42:48Speaker 3: I don't think he's just fifty catches between the hashes
- 42:52Speaker 3: he heard. I think, you know.
- 42:53Speaker 5: The one thing that I did do recently was I
- 42:55Speaker 5: went back to Alabama season in twenty twenty one and
- 42:59Speaker 5: watch what else did you have to? And I watched
- 43:02Speaker 5: a little bit of Jamison Williams with Bill O'Brien, because
- 43:06Speaker 5: Jamison Williams better player than Taekwon, but body type wise,
- 43:10Speaker 5: they're actually built almost identically like heightweight, they are basically
- 43:14Speaker 5: the same size, and both of them are incredibly fast.
- 43:17Speaker 5: Like I Taekwon in four towo eight. Not a lot
- 43:20Speaker 5: of guys are going to run faster than four to eight.
- 43:22Speaker 5: So I think that they have some similarities. And I
- 43:24Speaker 5: think the one thing that you noticed with Bill O'Brien
- 43:26Speaker 5: that he was able to do with Jamison Williams was
- 43:30Speaker 5: scheme ways and with alignment in motion and things like that,
- 43:33Speaker 5: so that contact was at a minimum. So all he
- 43:36Speaker 5: was doing Jamison Williams was winning foot races. And yeah,
- 43:40Speaker 5: he had to deal with some contact down the field
- 43:41Speaker 5: at the catch point that everybody does, but in terms
- 43:44Speaker 5: of at the line of scrimmage or within those first
- 43:46Speaker 5: five yards, they would put him in a stack, they'd
- 43:48Speaker 5: put him in a trip's bunch, they would put them
- 43:50Speaker 5: in motion, they would do different things to avoid contact,
- 43:53Speaker 5: so that all he was doing was it's it's a
- 43:56Speaker 5: game of it's a game of tag at that point.
- 43:59Speaker 3: It's taught to making those big hits, like you're not
- 44:02Speaker 3: crossing a zone and someone's recognizing a play coming off
- 44:06Speaker 3: their guy and waiting with that just killing right when
- 44:10Speaker 3: you're going down the field or outside.
- 44:12Speaker 5: Yeah, horizontally, you know. Yeah. And then what they were
- 44:14Speaker 5: able to do, and I don't this is the piece
- 44:16Speaker 5: that I think we're all been clamoring for. They had
- 44:18Speaker 5: John Metchi and and Mechi would just kill teams underneath
- 44:22Speaker 5: because Jamison Williams would clear it out and it would
- 44:24Speaker 5: just be all this room for him to go one
- 44:26Speaker 5: on one. Maybe that's Juju and their eyes in this offense,
- 44:29Speaker 5: and he has that catch and run ability. So that's
- 44:32Speaker 5: that's always been the basis of Bill O'Brien's offense is
- 44:37Speaker 5: the first and second level, the intermediate part of the field,
- 44:39Speaker 5: the middle of the field, the quick release. He doesn't
- 44:42Speaker 5: want the quarterback to stand there for three and a
- 44:44Speaker 5: half seconds and hold the football. So we'll see what
- 44:47Speaker 5: ends up happening in terms of all the tendencies, but
- 44:49Speaker 5: the play designs themselves will be obviously significantly different. And
- 44:53Speaker 5: the last thing I'll mention is, you know, I'll say
- 44:55Speaker 5: it again, I think there are po package is going
- 44:57Speaker 5: to be significantly better. Like it's not going to just
- 44:59Speaker 5: be either run or screen to the outside. Like they're
- 45:02Speaker 5: gonna have some downfield routes off of it. They're gonna
- 45:05Speaker 5: have some different looks, so that I'm excited to see.
- 45:08Speaker 5: But they're gonna be shotgun a lot, They're gonna be
- 45:11Speaker 5: spread a lot, They're gonna be a little bit more new.
- 45:14Speaker 5: Agy I don't think we're going back to Josh mcdaniels's
- 45:17Speaker 5: offense in twenty twenty one, because that's just not that's
- 45:19Speaker 5: not how the personnel lines up. They don't have the
- 45:21Speaker 5: blocking tight end, they don't have the full back like.
- 45:23Speaker 5: They just aren't built like that. So it'd be interesting
- 45:26Speaker 5: to see.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Email is web radio at pages dot com Audrey in
- 45:31Speaker 4: New Hampshire.
- 45:33Speaker 3: That's a piece of Mike.
- 45:34Speaker 4: I wasn't planning a follow up, but it seems necessary
- 45:37Speaker 4: considering that Mike keeps bringing up my name. I think
- 45:40Speaker 4: you have definitely improved some in the hosting chair, and
- 45:42Speaker 4: the reading was less frantic. I think Paul's presence helps
- 45:46Speaker 4: to steady you, but it's still a work in progress.
- 45:48Speaker 4: I know the standard is said very high from Fred,
- 45:51Speaker 4: but the emails are a very important part of the show,
- 45:54Speaker 4: and believe me, the absolute last place that would ever
- 45:57Speaker 4: want to be is up your butt. Now about the Patriots,
- 46:01Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to the season, the new team and
- 46:03Speaker 4: how the players come together. One thing is bringing down
- 46:06Speaker 4: my confidence in the overall mood. It feels like whatever
- 46:10Speaker 4: is going on behind the scenes with Bill regarding his
- 46:12Speaker 4: relationships with both Robert and Mack has become something of
- 46:15Speaker 4: an ego battle. I think Bill is determined to do
- 46:18Speaker 4: things his way, even if it's detrimental to the team
- 46:20Speaker 4: a power struggle. Trying to smooth things over publicly doesn't
- 46:24Speaker 4: erase what's underneath. If the owner, coach, and QB aren't united,
- 46:28Speaker 4: then success is a pipe dream, whatever that means. What
- 46:32Speaker 4: are your thoughts on this topic. I agree, I mean
- 46:36Speaker 4: we talked about it. I think that at some point,
- 46:39Speaker 4: if it hasn't already happened, Bill needs to sit down
- 46:43Speaker 4: with Mac and you know, clean slate, clean slate, just
- 46:49Speaker 4: like you know, Bill O'Bryan said.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Do you think that are you buying into the narrative
- 46:55Speaker 3: that was trying to like work its way out after
- 46:57Speaker 3: the draft? That it was all intentional Bill, This whole
- 47:00Speaker 3: thing was everything.
- 47:04Speaker 5: No, some people take that to step forward and say
- 47:06Speaker 5: that the lack of offensive talent additions like Juju being the
- 47:11Speaker 5: big one is let's see what Mac's made of, right, Like,
- 47:14Speaker 5: if he can't do it, you know, if he can't
- 47:16Speaker 5: keep his head above water this year, then what's the
- 47:17Speaker 5: point of making the trade for the number one wide
- 47:20Speaker 5: receiver to make it easier?
- 47:21Speaker 3: And you can talk your way into either side of that. Right,
- 47:24Speaker 3: that could be a vote of confidence for Mac. No, no, no,
- 47:26Speaker 3: I have faith in you, Mac. I know you can
- 47:28Speaker 3: make it work with this This is you have plenty around, right,
- 47:31Speaker 3: and you're good enough to make it work with it.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Or I don't really have any use for this guy.
- 47:35Speaker 3: I'm not going to give him anything else to work with. Yeah,
- 47:38Speaker 3: if he's gonna sink or swim, I think he's gonna sink,
- 47:40Speaker 3: and then I can get rid of this guy. Like
- 47:42Speaker 3: you can talk yourself into and do I think that
- 47:44Speaker 3: either one of those is true? No, I don't think
- 47:46Speaker 3: either one of those. Right, those are true. You could
- 47:50Speaker 3: talk yourself either side.
- 47:51Speaker 6: I just can't talk myself into Bill Belichick, you know,
- 47:54Speaker 6: as he's clearly you know, in his seventies, he's approaching
- 47:56Speaker 6: the end of his career, being spiteful and like, you know,
- 48:00Speaker 6: doing things with the team, doing things with the team
- 48:03Speaker 6: just to prove a point, like like you think he's
- 48:05Speaker 6: gonna be like, well, I'll show them, I'm gonna go
- 48:06Speaker 6: three wins this year, like you know, all right, well
- 48:08Speaker 6: we're not gonna get any talent. Then we'll just see
- 48:10Speaker 6: then who's right? Like no, like he wants to lose
- 48:12Speaker 6: and be right like no.
- 48:13Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 48:14Speaker 3: He does not want to lose. He does not want
- 48:17Speaker 3: to lose.
- 48:18Speaker 8: He won't lose unless he makes to be.
- 48:19Speaker 3: The reason that they win. There's a big difference. But
- 48:23Speaker 3: with Brady, they got to a point where he was
- 48:25Speaker 3: no longer being credited for being the reason that they won,
- 48:29Speaker 3: and I think he likes to get back to that
- 48:32Speaker 3: bottom block box a chicken Bill. Belichick has never gone
- 48:34Speaker 3: into anything hoping to lose, Like no way. He's one
- 48:38Speaker 3: of the most competitive guys I've ever met. Like he
- 48:40Speaker 3: wants to win games. And bottom line is, if mac
- 48:44Speaker 3: Jones is responsible for all their wins, he'll take it
- 48:46Speaker 3: because that means he's winning. But if you ask, if
- 48:49Speaker 3: you're asking me my opinion, if you had his hand
- 48:52Speaker 3: on a bible, you can win thirteen three or thirty seven,
- 48:56Speaker 3: thirty three, He'll take thirteen three so everybody can credit him.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Yeah. I think. I think deep down in his psyche,
- 49:01Speaker 4: he would admit that in a perfect world, no one
- 49:05Speaker 4: is above the team, and he realizes that at a
- 49:08Speaker 4: certain point Brady became above the team and that he
- 49:12Speaker 4: didn't like that. But there's nothing he could do about
- 49:15Speaker 4: it because he was that damn good, you know, But
- 49:17Speaker 4: I think in his perfect world, everybody's the same. You know,
- 49:22Speaker 4: no one's above the team.
- 49:23Speaker 3: To here on logan Ryan is just going to bring
- 49:26Speaker 3: that up. Yeah, And I think there's some truth to
- 49:28Speaker 3: what what Ryan was saying about that. But I just
- 49:31Speaker 3: would look at it and say, the one thing that
- 49:33Speaker 3: that Logan Ryan said that I didn't and we should
- 49:35Speaker 3: probably say. He was on NFL Network yesterday. He was
- 49:37Speaker 3: talking about how Bill had a knack of being able
- 49:39Speaker 3: to treat everybody the same. Everything you get, everything, everything
- 49:42Speaker 3: you get you learned and but and I agree with that,
- 49:46Speaker 3: but I would also say he went on to say
- 49:48Speaker 3: that he's done a great job over the years of
- 49:50Speaker 3: adapting and moving on, and I don't think he's done
- 49:53Speaker 3: a great job with that. And and that's an example
- 49:55Speaker 3: of what I'm what I'm talking about. Yeah, I think
- 49:58Speaker 3: if you look up a coaching manual, all the best
- 50:00Speaker 3: coaches you guys probably had in all the sports that
- 50:03Speaker 3: you played probably did a good job of treating Evan
- 50:07Speaker 3: the same way he treated Mike. I don't think that
- 50:10Speaker 3: works like that anymore. I think some of these guys
- 50:14Speaker 3: have grown up in a culture that didn't have coaching
- 50:18Speaker 3: like that. It was that guy's special and he needs
- 50:21Speaker 3: to be treated a little bit differently. Some guys are
- 50:23Speaker 3: special and you can treat him like dirt. Some guys
- 50:26Speaker 3: are special and they need kid gloves. You have to adapt, like,
- 50:30Speaker 3: and I think Bill is like, no, I treat everybody
- 50:33Speaker 3: the same. Yeah. I don't think he's done a good
- 50:35Speaker 3: job of adapting for that, but I think you kind
- 50:37Speaker 3: of have to nowadays.
- 50:38Speaker 4: I mean, he broke with that with Cam drastically. He
- 50:42Speaker 4: did not treat Cam the same as he treated everything.
- 50:44Speaker 3: No, I think that's a good example the other way.
- 50:46Speaker 3: You're right, that's a counter to what I think.
- 50:47Speaker 4: That's recent, you know, and they're you know, like he
- 50:52Speaker 4: let Gronkowski probably get away with some stuff off the
- 50:56Speaker 4: field that not everybody could. The goofiness and all that. Again,
- 51:00Speaker 4: he was that damn good.
- 51:01Speaker 3: You know.
- 51:02Speaker 4: It's like, so if that, if that's what allows grot
- 51:05Speaker 4: to be motivated.
- 51:06Speaker 3: And I'm not saying like, if Brady is late for
- 51:09Speaker 3: a meeting, he gets released off the team, that's treating
- 51:13Speaker 3: everybody the same, Like, that's not my point. Obviously. You know,
- 51:16Speaker 3: the ninetieth guy in the roster misses a meeting and
- 51:18Speaker 3: he's probably gonna be out of a job. That's not
- 51:20Speaker 3: what I'm saying. I just feel like, I don't think
- 51:24Speaker 3: you could treat Mac the same way you treated Tom.
- 51:27Speaker 3: I don't think that's gonna work for Mac. You know, like,
- 51:30Speaker 3: you can't blame him for every misstep on the field
- 51:33Speaker 3: the way you did for Tom in front of everybody,
- 51:36Speaker 3: trying to set a tone. Yeah, because I don't think
- 51:38Speaker 3: Mac is at that stage yet where he can handle
- 51:41Speaker 3: that and understand it.
- 51:42Speaker 4: Yeah. Uh, Paul and Norwood. Obviously, Bill Belichick has always
- 51:48Speaker 4: put an emphasis on core special teamers and has emphasized
- 51:51Speaker 4: that as well with this year's free agency and draft
- 51:54Speaker 4: after last year's disastrous results. Not to pick on Cody Davis,
- 51:58Speaker 4: but he assumed to be four and has played exactly
- 52:02Speaker 4: one defensive snap according to Pro Football Reference in his
- 52:06Speaker 4: three years with the Patriots. Do his special teams contributions
- 52:09Speaker 4: merit a final roster spot over maybe a late round
- 52:11Speaker 4: draft pick such as Speed or Bolden who may have
- 52:14Speaker 4: potential long term to be more valuable to the roster.
- 52:18Speaker 4: In the past, the Patriots have lost draft picks such
- 52:21Speaker 4: as Lee Smith and Kamier Gruger, Gruger Hill, and Udfa
- 52:25Speaker 4: Kenny Moore after being put on waivers at the fifty
- 52:28Speaker 4: three man cutdown. All started primarily as special teamers and
- 52:31Speaker 4: eventually carved out productive roles on their respective teams, most
- 52:34Speaker 4: notably More, who has been a starter for the Cold
- 52:37Speaker 4: since the second year and has made one Pro Bowl.
- 52:40Speaker 4: So are we missing out on some players because we're
- 52:45Speaker 4: so focused on these core guys? Of course, special team guys.
- 52:48Speaker 5: I'd say Cody Davis is the wrong example because when
- 52:52Speaker 5: he got hurt in Cleveland, they were kind of a
- 52:55Speaker 5: mess on special teams after that and some of the
- 52:57Speaker 5: things that they were a mess at in particular, or
- 53:00Speaker 5: punt block right like you know, punt coverage block, whatever
- 53:04Speaker 5: you want to call it.
- 53:07Speaker 11: He was.
- 53:07Speaker 5: He was a personal protector and the main communicator on
- 53:10Speaker 5: the field, and they had some real issues. Remember the
- 53:12Speaker 5: one that they had blocked that nobody moved, like, yeah,
- 53:16Speaker 5: the long snapper snapped it. I think it was Cordona
- 53:19Speaker 5: still at the time, and nobody moved because they they
- 53:23Speaker 5: had the snap count differently than than the long snapper did.
- 53:25Speaker 5: And those are the communications. So I think that a
- 53:28Speaker 5: better example and for that that's not Cody Davis. Is
- 53:31Speaker 5: somebody like Brennan Schooler, who is a classic Belichick special
- 53:36Speaker 5: teams guy, He's gonna he's not playing safety at any
- 53:40Speaker 5: any time in his career unless they really have a
- 53:42Speaker 5: ton of injuries and they have no choice. So is
- 53:45Speaker 5: a guy like Brendan's Schooler worth keeping knowing that he's
- 53:48Speaker 5: going to be a core contributor on special teams over
- 53:50Speaker 5: somebody that you feel like does have a future on defense,
- 53:54Speaker 5: you know, like in a mere speed or like somebody
- 53:56Speaker 5: along those lines. But I think Cody Davis they missed him.
- 53:59Speaker 3: As to his question is have they missed out on
- 54:01Speaker 3: players because of their special Yeah, they have, But I
- 54:05Speaker 3: think you're also missing like Camu gruge Hill, if he
- 54:10Speaker 3: made the Patriots, was going to be a special teamer.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Do you know? You know what I'm saying, Like you
- 54:15Speaker 3: don't know for sure. And that's why I like the
- 54:17Speaker 3: example that Evan brought up of Brendan Schooler because sight
- 54:22Speaker 3: unseen him and is it Deamarcus Mitchell. Yeah, those two
- 54:26Speaker 3: guys sight Unseen got on the practice field last year
- 54:30Speaker 3: and never did anything other than special teams. So as
- 54:33Speaker 3: rookies coming into the league, Like when Kenny Moore came in,
- 54:40Speaker 3: like he got reps in the secondary, clearly he was
- 54:43Speaker 3: going to be a special teams player. But I think
- 54:46Speaker 3: that he Evan is right to say the guys that
- 54:48Speaker 3: you're looking at a more schooler in Mitchell who it's
- 54:51Speaker 3: clear they don't have any intentions of those guys playing.
- 54:54Speaker 3: And I don't know this, and forgive me for not knowing.
- 54:58Speaker 3: You know, like the depth chart of every team special
- 55:00Speaker 3: teams around the league, it feels to me like the
- 55:03Speaker 3: Patriots have more of those guys that just do special
- 55:07Speaker 3: teams than most teams.
- 55:09Speaker 5: Yeah, they carry and I would say them.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Like I could have Kenny Moore and Kamu Gruge Hill
- 55:15Speaker 3: on my team and then maybe by year three they're
- 55:19Speaker 3: like Miles Bryant and they played special teams, but they're
- 55:21Speaker 3: playing on defense too a little bit and they're contributing.
- 55:24Speaker 3: You know, you have to weigh it like Josh Bledze,
- 55:28Speaker 3: is Josh Blitz are ready to do that this year?
- 55:30Speaker 3: He could be. He could be ready to play more
- 55:32Speaker 3: of a meaningful role on defense. So I think there's
- 55:36Speaker 3: more guys like Kenny Moore than the emailer is probably remembering, all.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Right, Maurice wants to know. Can the Patriots schedule release
- 55:43Speaker 4: just be Fred reading the games off of whiteboard.
- 55:45Speaker 3: I think that'd be awesome.
- 55:46Speaker 4: We did that last year, but it was Ernie Ernie
- 55:49Speaker 4: Adams did it, so we're not going to do that again.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Yeah, me and Mike wanted to be wise guys too
- 55:54Speaker 3: and just like read off the whole schedule and say
- 55:56Speaker 3: win after every game, like that's a win. But like,
- 55:59Speaker 3: you know, all right, I thought that would be trolling.
- 56:01Speaker 4: We're going to take a break when we come back.

- 1:05:58Speaker 4: History. Back in the day, when Eric was still a
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: meat eater, right, we went to Arthur's and wanted to
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: get a steak well done, and I objected. He did.
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: I objected, He voiced in opposition.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: That's ridiculous.
- 1:06:09Speaker 12: Yes, told the server said, don't you dare, don't you
- 1:06:12Speaker 12: dare bring him a cooked steak.
- 1:06:15Speaker 7: About five minutes later.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: He doesn't need a good cut, is what I'm saying.
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: You don't need to waste the money on someone who's
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: gonna have done.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: It's a waste of money because you don't like to.
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: Know it'll taste the same, is what I'm saying. He
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: won't even know the difference.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: Of course, you know the different stream cuts of meat.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: Not when you do it well done, not when you
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: cook it well done.
- 1:06:37Speaker 8: Just give him a hook, it loses, it.
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: Loses all its flavorin.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: That's another great moment from.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: Cooking.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's a fair grave. It is for
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: me too, but like to me, it's like, well, I'm
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: not eating. Why would I concern myself without how he's
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: gonna get my friends?
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: Like I object, so literally, you know, we're doing our
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: orders and he's like, I'll have the rabbi well done.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: Hold on, we're gonna you know, to the way that
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: we're gonna need a man send him away, Like, Eric,
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: you're not ordering a steak well done? You know?
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: So I think it's fair. Yeah, I like that. When
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: you go to a real steak restaurant. In my mind
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: is when they don't even ask, right you order? Are
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: gonna get the flag, I'm gonna get the sirloin, and
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: they're just like, okay.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: Yeah, how does it come though?
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: Medium rare?
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Really?
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: Where have you been that they don't actus? Peter Lugers
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: doesn't add New York City?
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, because a lot of places won't bring it
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: to you a medium rare anymore. Well, which really irris a.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: State they will, but ground beef they won't.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Oh God, Burgers, forget about it.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: Yeah, burgercy. There's a big difference between a burger and
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: ground and chop meat because the burg a steak keeps
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: like that shell, you know, so that the bacteria doesn't
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: get in. But once you chop it up and everything,
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: like you know, ground beef, then bacteria gets in. So
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: you should never ever have a burger less than medium.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: Oh no, well, man, I wouldn't want it less than
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: medium anyway.
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: Some people would. But you should never get a burger
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: less than medium. But steak is okay, you know, because
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: it keeps like there's like a membrane that stays in it,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: and it keeps like bacteria from going.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Freddy, just like it's true learning stuff.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: The steak is different than than ground beef.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: No, I'm not done in terms of bacteria. Yeah, you
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: should try cooking like I had a cookout at my
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: house with my family. You'll go crazy.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: Oh yeah, everybody wants it different.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Oh god, my brother, my brother in law, and my
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: sister in law all want it completely well done. Yeah,
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: like yeah, I have to just like leave the grill
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: and let them fresh, right. My other brother in law,
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: my sister's husband. I could use a match to cook
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: a burger and he's.
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: Like, that's good.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: That's good. Like I got like hot spots.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: On my grill.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: I'm like, I go crazy, you know, Like I don't
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: like cooking for a lot of people. It's in the
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: first place because I don't have that confidence that I'm
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: doing it right. And then everybody wants it different. Then
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: you can see everybody like they take I'm like, well,
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: then put it back on when you want me to tell.
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: You anyway, all right, back to football eight five.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Like Labor Day, we do lobsters and I don't have
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: to worry you take.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: A hotline web radio at pages dot com as the
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: email address. I just love the fact that the weather's
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: getting warm again. Yeah, I mean, I'm so done with winter.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: And we didn't even have a bad winter. We had
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: a pretty mild winter I know at all. But the
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: spring got off to a good, like a really good start.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: It got warm right away. Then we had like three
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: weeks of yeah until this week.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: I just it's just good for your bones, the heat.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: It's good.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: I'm going to get that cover off the pool this week. Freddy.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I don't have to worry about that anymore.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: I kind of miss it, but all right, Neil writes
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: in from New Brunswick, schedule release isn't a big deal
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: to me because my viewing's all on TV. Just please
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: not Miami again. Please for the opener. I heard that
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: teams are no longer guaranteed a primetime game anymore, which
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: is if we're being honest or we really don't deserve
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: Oh yes we do. We were not that watchable last year,
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: and I'm sure our past success will get us a few. Also,
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: two Thursdays is just terrible the first time. I agree
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: with Mahomes. And finally, Isaiah Win is still a free agent?
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: Any chance we sign him between now in training camp?
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: I would say, no, Yeah, I'm are.
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: You surprised that he's still a free agent?
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: No, I'm a little.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: Surprised that someone hasn't signed him to like a one
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: year kind of prove it deal.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: They'll get that eventually now that teams are resetting their
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: depth charts after the draft.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: I'm a little surprised. I'm not stunned by it, because
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: I don't think he played very well in Worse for
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: him individually is I think he was deemed to be
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: part of the problem, and I think that gets around.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: Yeah, with all due respect Isaiah Whin, I've never been
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: around a guy that just doesn't seem interested in playing
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: football that is a professional football player, and that type
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: of thing definitely gets around.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: I would say, I don't remember too many guys whose
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: attitude I believe completely changed as dramatically as his did
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: from year one to year five. Yeah, it's a shame
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: he came in like a pleasure to talk to.
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: Because you know, Evan I famously said when they drafted
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: him that his floor was a Pro Bowl guard. That
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: was his floor, and I was just wrong.
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: Well, that's definitely one of those lessons of how much
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: attitude goes into because he's got all the talent in
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: the world to be the floor of a Pro Bowl guard.
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: But I just accused as somebody that just didn't seem
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: to want to be here at all.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: And that was certainly the case last year from the
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: start of the season when they would ever if it
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: was the flip flopping from left to right, if that's
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: what it was. But I agree with Evan, he did
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: not want to be here.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Matt and Devin UK because someone was messing around at
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: Fred's box last week, it made me look like an idiot.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: You managed to read half my email and then just
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: the line up for Paul of do you think we
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: should trade for a J. Brown? The whole question was
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: for Paul and is and was do you think that
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: we should trade for a J.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: Brown?
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: As surely after Jalen Hurt's new bumper contract that Eagles
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: must be in cap jail and need to move on
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: from their best players.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: So I assume that that was like sarcasm.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Maybe No, I think that he thinks that not reading
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: that second half about Jalen Hurts contract forcing them to
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: move on made it any different.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: Right, So that's why I'm assuming he's being sarcastic. I
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: don't know, it doesn't The rest of that sentence doesn't
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: change the email.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: That's what I expected you to say.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: Correct, unless he's being sarcastic and being funny, which in
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: the case like I can appreat and I mean more
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: than me to appreciate snark. Yeah, right, right, that's what
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: I think he's doing. It's just like like Paul, like,
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: you know they have to trade AJ Brown now, right, Paul,
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: because they're in captured.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: That could be That's the way I unless he really
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: believes it.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: Right, except for like that's not going to happen.
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: There will be players just like Buffalo's going through, Kansas
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: City's going through that end up having to.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: Be except they're not going to be those kinds of now.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: It's not gonna be like the number one misnomer, like
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: and Fred always pushes back, So I'm not going to
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: get into the cap or no cap at all that.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: But people always call players cap casualties like they're really
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: good players. Like if aj Brown catches another ninety balls
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: for fifteen hundred yards and eleven touchdowns next year, they're
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: not gonna make him a cap casualty. They're going to
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: figure out somebody how to manipulate the cap to make
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: sure that they need to keep him and hurts right,
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: and someone who maybe I don't know, filled a role
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: for them but wasn't all that valuable, Like I don't know,
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: I don't know their whole depth chart at receiver beyond
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: DeVante Smith and him, but like they let another guy go. Sure, yeah,
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: I think that maybe they would keep if in a
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: perfect world, but they have to find some cap dollars somewhere.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: So this guy who caught thirty balls is gonna go.
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean a guy like Miles Sanders not on
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: the team anymore, right, because they're right. They don't do
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: that with running backs in Philly anyways, because they're analytically driven.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: But Er, that's a good example, Miles Sanders, good player.
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: Go get paid by Carolina. We're gonna, we're gonna, you know,
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: draft somebody and they're trade for DeAndre Swift and replace
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: you that way. But I think the one guy that,
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: like Dallas Goddard, you know, I don't know, can can
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: they pay three of them?
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: Though? As long as he's still productive, they'll keep. They'll
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: find a way to keep them.
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: I tend to agree. I do wonder about DeVante Smith.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: You know, they lost some of the defensive players off
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: of that team, but a lot of them were on
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: one year contract.
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: Yeah right, Yeah, they ended up keeping some of those
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: guys because who is it a Darius lay Right, they
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: were gonna cut him and then they ended up figuring
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: it out.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: They allowed him permission I thought to seek a trader. Yeah,
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: and they ended up taking any defenses and Bradbury resigned. Right, yep.
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: Yeah, DeVonta Smith is he's gonna be what He's a
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: twenty twenty raft pick, right, so he's I think year four,
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: year five now, So it'd be interesting to see what
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: they end up doing with him. You know, I think
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: it's similar to the Chase and Higgins thing in Cincinnati.
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: They'll they'll pay him both, and they'll pay the quarterback
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: and they'll figure the rest of it out.
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: Tim our friend at dunkin Donuts or just Duncan. I
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: just listened to last week's Catch twenty two and as
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: Evan and Alex were reviewing each of the draft picks,
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: Evan discussed that he believes that with the addition of
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Marty Mapu, the Patriots should change the style of their defense,
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: basically having a lighter, quicker linebacker on the field every down.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: My question is, do you agree that the Patriots should
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: change their defensive philosophy, and more importantly, do you think
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: they will? They will, like Evan hopes.
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: Well, I already answered. We talked about that for about
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: twenty five minutes, going back and forth. Because Bart is
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: not in the he doesn't think they'll do it. I
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: think is more I don't want to put words.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: On what, what does it mean? What do what?
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: So essentially the debates because I am insistent that Marty
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: map who should be labeled a linebacker and should be
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: considered a linebacker moving forward, because I think a lot
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: of people when they made that draft pick drew parallels
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: to Kyle Dugger And what's this mean for Kyle Duggar's
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: free agency and their body type wise, their their height, weight,
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: that type of thing is a little bit similar. But
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: to me, Marty map who plays like a traditional linebacker
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: and just a way that he plays on the field,
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: you know, speaking to Jim Nagy from the Senior Bowl,
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: and he mentioned that Dugger is a little bit more fluid,
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: a little bit looser, a little bit better change of direction,
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: whereas Marty Matpho is a true linear downhill athlete and
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: somebody that isn't going to have that change of direction
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: and kind of fluidity in space to be able to
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: be man coverage on Travis Kelcey, Like that's just not
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: going to be the type of athlete that he is.
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: So to me, you know, I look at not to
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: throw him under the bus, but I look at a
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: guy like Jelani Tavai. He know they're always going to
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: play a Jawan Bentley, Like Jawan Bentley is always going
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: to play on first and second down. But you look
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: at some of these weak sidelinebackers that they've had. Can
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: the weak sidelinebacker be somebody that can run a little
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: bit like, does that guy also have to be two
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: hundred and fifty five pounds, or can we have the
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: guy that's playing away from the tight end and away
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: from the strong side of the formation be somebody like
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: Marty Mapuh's two hundred and twenty pounds, so that can
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: go sideline to sideline, that can cover a good depth
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: of the field, that can be instinctive and have a
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: nose for the football and really be a quick tackler
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: and things like that. That to me is they've not
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: done that. They haven't completely pivoted to that type of
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: player yet, whereas the last rest of the league has
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: Matt Milano playing the week side or Dean Jones playing
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: the mic, or you know the other guys that are lighter, faster,
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: Fred Warner and.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: Karen Lorry, Patrick Queen. Right, there's a lot of those
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: type guys. And I kind of agree with Alex, Yeah,
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: I want to see it before I have.
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I don't think I like, I have no
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: problem with the way the Patriots defense has played last year.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: I just think it's always better to do it faster,
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: you know, Like they've always been this matchup defense where
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: they scheme against the other team's offense. You know, they
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: don't have they've never had like players that are so
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: dominant that you just roll them out.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: But well, don't they have to change like what like
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: like last year the last seven games, they allowed like
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: something like twenty nine points a game, you know, And
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: I know that wasn't all defensive points because I know
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: they were they were like returns in there, you know,
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: special teams issues. I know it wasn't all on defense,
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: but over the last seven games, the other team basically
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: could score yep against that defense. And I think that's
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: a pattern that that's sort of developed over the last
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: few years. But it's like I think, when the other
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: team figures out what they're what they're doing on defense,
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: there's only so much you can do with scheme.
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: Yeah, well if you do it faster, then you know,
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: I don't know, I just I don't think.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: But no, now I'm with you, Fred, I want to
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: change personnel and change the way I'm going about doing it. Yeah,
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: Like I would like to see Evan be right in
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: this argument with argument it's probably strong with with Alex,
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: no conversa.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: I think the biggest the biggest, it was a good conversation.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing was is that, to Alex's point,
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: traditionally Marty Map who is a safety for the Patriots,
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: He's Kyle Duggar, He's Adrian Phillips, He's he's a safety,
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: He's Patrick Chung like he's those types of players. But
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: what I am saying is is that I would like
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: to see him be used as a true traditional inside
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: linebacker like a Jawan Bentley, but smaller and faster. And
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is is that you look
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: at the matchup last year against Buffalo in the last
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: week of the season, and on first down they are
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: in you know, their bass nickel and they're rolling Jilani
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: Tavai and Juwan Bentley and Matthew Judon out there. You know,
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: obviously Judon on the edge, and Buffalo just gashes them
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: on first down every time they because they're too fast
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: and and Alan is too mobile. So they get these
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: guys that are two hundred and fifty two hundred and
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: fifty five pounds, they stretch the field tours, they get
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: them into space, and they just don't have the guys
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: in the middle of the field to keep up with it.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: And at some point a guy like Marty Mattpu traditionally
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: for the Patriots would either be a safety like a
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Kyle Dugger type, or he would be a sub package player.
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: He would only come on the field on third down
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: and he'd be a very situational pass rusher or a
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: situational coverage player. I want to see that guy play
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: all three downs now, like, because that's where way the
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: game is going. And you look at the schedule next year,
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: Kansas City, Buffalo twice, Philadelphia is on the schedule, Like,
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: they're gonna play a lot of these guys that have
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: the you know, a lot of these teams with mobile quarterbacks,
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: with that speed on offense, that ability to stretch you horizontally,
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: and they've got to avoid getting picked apart in the
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: middle of the field.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: Yeah. I totally agree with that, and I have embraced
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: that thought process over the last several years. Fred and
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: not all of those guys that I mentioned have worked
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: out to be really good players. Matter of fact, some
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: of those guys have just recently not had their fifty
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: year options picked up. Some of those guys that I mentioned,
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: But I do think that that style of player is
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: what a lot of teams are going to and having success.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: You know, the Rokwon Smiths of the world, that they're
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: having success with more athletics, smaller linebackers that maybe give
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: up a little bit in the power game, and you
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: have to live with that where I'm sort of skeptical now.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: I think the last thing you said about map who
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: is probably what they I think maybe a third down
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: kind of package, you know, subpackaged kind of guy would
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: be a compromise for Bill in some way. But like
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: I look at like I'm just looking at what they're doing,
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: Like Keon White is like a two hundred and eighty
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: five pound defensive Like that's the kind of defensive end
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: big like, So this is how we set the five technique.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: You know, he's gonna work out here and he's gonna
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: be able to be like Dietrich wise and be one
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: of those kinds of guys as opposed to you know,
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: a von Miller type edge guy who maybe sacrifices a
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: little in bulk against the run. You might be able
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: to take advantage of him in the ground game a
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: little bit, but he's more of an athlete. Like to me,
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: it doesn't make sense to have one guy stay in
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: that mold and then have the linebackers gonna be totally
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: different because this like a forty pound difference between Johanni
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: to Vai and Mapoo, right, so this is in by
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: all accounts, Mapou cannot play safety.
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: So this is the this is the rabbit hole that
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: we got down, and the like kind of finally came
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: out because for me, where it started was is I
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: was trying to figure out Keyon White, like, what do
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: they see in this kid? What's the role for him?
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: Why this pick? Why the old school Ty Warren two
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: hundred and eighty five pound defensive end. And eventually what
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: I sort of got to was, well, if they take
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: Jolani to Vai off the field and they put Marty
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: map who at the second level where I want him,
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: they got to be better up front, right, They got
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: to be stouter, they got to be more physical upfront.
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: So you're marrying the two that way. So I figured out, okay.
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: Well put the bult closer to the line. If you
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: have Keon White and Christian Barmore and Godshaw and Jude
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: On and that's your front on first down, more like
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: a four man front. And then you have your lighter
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: at the second and the third level. But now you
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: have another two hundred and eighty five pound guy that
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: can hold up at the point of attack. So it's
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: not you're not as susceptible to the run in that
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: sense that Marty map who is just gonna get guards
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: on top of him, and he's not gonna be able
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: to get off those blocks. So I hope that they're
- 1:23:25Speaker 5: going hand in hand on that, and that Kean White
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: is here to take up, you know, to clog the
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: line of scrimmage, take up blockers, you know, the whole
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: traditional Patriot thing, which in theory should keep a guy
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: like Marty mappho's undersize to play where he's playing clean
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: to run.
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: To the football works in theory absolutely.
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: I just go back to what you know, Teddy Bruski.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: I remember standing he was standing up at the Patriot
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: Hall of Fame induction ceremony, think for Richard Seymour.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: Behind Seymour, Warren and Will Fork.
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: And he said, this is what playing linebacker was behind
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: these three guys. And I look at Keon White and
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: bar More and godshot, and I'm like, it's not the same,
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: Like those are all three of those guys are are
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: borderline not Ty Warren, but Seymour and will Fork. One
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: is in the Hall of Fame, the real Hall of fame,
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: and one could be in the in the big Hall
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: of Fame. So I'm not saying that though these guys
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: are comparable, but I like to think that that maybe
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: is the idea.
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: Deuce is back from availability. How was it?
- 1:24:27Speaker 8: Oh, it was fun.
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: Now I heard from Bentley, big Celtics fan, big Celtics fan.
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: I didn't realize it was even his team growing up.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: So he's going tonight. So nice, so always good from Bentley.
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: But we also got to meet Chris Board so that
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: was fun. He said the Patriots wanted him. He said,
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: other teams were like, we'll take you, but they pursued
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: him and wanted him. As you know, probably people can
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: imagine with the quote from Belichick which he was asked about.
- 1:24:52Speaker 8: And you know, very very flattered and you know.
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: Just seemed like a soft spoken, you know, quiet guy
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: that you know, just fit the mold.
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: Like that was quick availability, It was quick.
- 1:25:02Speaker 8: It was quick. I mean, you know, not not too
- 1:25:04Speaker 8: much going on. Bentley talked mostly about.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: There are a lot of writers that Fred can I do
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: you mind? Go ahead?
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: Mood.
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: It was a little more spread out than usual, Like
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: we've been down there in that new media room and
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: everybody it's been more of a scrum, and today we
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: all sat at tables, so it was a little bit more.
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: They one at a time, one at a time.
- 1:25:20Speaker 8: Yeah, so you brought them out nothing.
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: Table, a long table like.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: The old like the old days.
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: For like one of those off track, I was on
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: the Belichick going, I was imagining Paul and I was
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: like thinking, he was sitting there listening very intently.
- 1:25:35Speaker 8: That's you know, you look like you getting getting.
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: I respect the process.
- 1:25:40Speaker 8: Did you have a question?
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: Yeah, what do you think of the new media workroom
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: and the setup? Because this is very inside based people
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: some people like having when we have these conversations. I
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: think and I have some thoughts about the new meeting.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: I know that's temporary.
- 1:25:55Speaker 8: I know it's temporary, so I won't I won't judge
- 1:25:57Speaker 8: it too hard. It's small, you know, it is is
- 1:26:00Speaker 8: a little bit small.
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: I like the access to in the old one because
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: you could come from the front, you could come from
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: the back. You know, there are other ways to get
- 1:26:06Speaker 6: in and out, and this one you were late.
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: You wouldn't necessarily disrupt the press conference, right if you
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: were late, Yeah, exactly.
- 1:26:13Speaker 8: Sneak in the back. You could probably still do that here.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: But you just don't have the options of of, you know,
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: to get in and out like you did at the
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: old one.
- 1:26:22Speaker 8: But I'm sure it'll be it'll be fine. There's tables,
- 1:26:24Speaker 8: there's a podium. Well, I didn't see that yet. I
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: haven't checked that out.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: There was a little kitchen. There is a kitchen which
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: I could get my diet PEPs.
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: We said we could get a bartender maybe working, you know,
- 1:26:35Speaker 6: passing out cocktails back there.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:26:37Speaker 8: There's a kitchen at there though, I don't know what
- 1:26:38Speaker 8: that's I'll have.
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: To see what it's like during the season before I
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: really render true judge.
- 1:26:44Speaker 8: You seem like you seem like you're pretty hot about
- 1:26:45Speaker 8: this one.
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: Not, well, maybe reserve judgment before it's not a media
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: scrum up like right around everyone just crying.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Made that was tough my one experience. I actually like
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: that a little bit better, honestly, because I can hear
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: the person and I can ask questions. But with mac
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: rowe when he was at the podium, it's far like
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: you're far away from from him. And if you're not
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: in like the first couple of rows, like when when
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: Bill gets.
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: Up there was on microphone.
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: He is, but I'm talking about to ask questions from
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: the group. You know, If Bill's up there and I'm
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: trying to ask him a question from the last row,
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: I forget about it, Like I'm probably not gonna get
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: the question in right because I'm gonna get talked over.
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: You got to do business as business is being done,
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: you know, you got to adjust right like that.
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: I feel like those upfront seats are now going to
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: become that's going to be like a war like it
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: used to be. You know, Mike had his seat.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: Him and so s were tag team, right, and Reese
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: would have that that very first seat like on the
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: aisle tweeted out about four hours ago he was already there.
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: And that that that was Reese's seat, and that no
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: one sat there we all understood. But everywhere else was
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: kind of like you know it, there wasn't really a
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: bad seat in the house. In the old media workroom
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: this one.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: Yeah, whats going on in that media work round, Freddy,
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: that doesn't exist anymore. Yeah, Why they're building a new
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: club club, one of.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: Those clubs where you can watch the players go out
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: from the locker room onto the field and all that stuff. Yeah,
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: well listen, they're all doing it. All the teams have
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: it now.
- 1:28:28Speaker 8: Smokes, smoke show and all kinds of stuff.
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: So they're going to be smoke shows, actual smoke.
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: So decent contingency.
- 1:28:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it was kind off season, only a couple of cameras,
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: not a full contingent of all the cameras. But you know,
- 1:28:41Speaker 6: the usual playing hits, playing the hits off season, Celtics,
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: a lot of Celtics energy.
- 1:28:48Speaker 8: Go sees, no grumbling or about any no grumbling I
- 1:28:51Speaker 8: would I would.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: Say, so there was nobody to grumble about.
- 1:28:54Speaker 6: The media worker, I would say to Bentley was asked
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: about he visited the Pine Street in last week, and
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: he really lit up, was just like, I really appreciate
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: the question. You know, I think people probably know he
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: grew up a little bit with like I guess, as
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: he put it home, instability, And I don't say he
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: grew up homeless, but sounded like he went through some
- 1:29:11Speaker 6: things as a kid, so just really it seemed like
- 1:29:14Speaker 6: it was a special thing to him to be able to,
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: you know, speak to those people there at.
- 1:29:17Speaker 8: The Pine Street and in Boston. So just one other
- 1:29:20Speaker 8: thing that was nice.
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: Okay, let's get to the A sticket hutline Ryan's and
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: but I don't know if you want to close the
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: window or something. TAXI Hello, can you hear me? Yes?
- 1:29:41Speaker 12: Yes, Hi, all right, thanks for taking my call last
- 1:29:45Speaker 12: week or maybe it was the week before. I guess
- 1:29:47Speaker 12: you guys had brought up a couple of times that
- 1:29:49Speaker 12: you were saying Mac deserved another shot. Yeah, And I
- 1:29:55Speaker 12: found that interesting because I'm not so sure that Mac
- 1:29:59Speaker 12: deserves a I mean, I think that, yeah, he's fine,
- 1:30:03Speaker 12: and I'm fine with having a Mac quarterback this year,
- 1:30:05Speaker 12: and I don't necessarily think he's the quarterback of the future.
- 1:30:09Speaker 12: But yeah, I just I'm curious if you know what
- 1:30:14Speaker 12: the rationale is behind saying Max deserves another shot at a.
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: Quarterback, because I don't think we got a fair look
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: look last year, and I you know, I think you know,
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: it wasn't fair to him. So that's just that's all
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: it is it's let's let's have another look with a
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: person who was an offensive coordinator before uh and see
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: if he can do any better.
- 1:30:35Speaker 6: I would say, I mean too, like, I think I
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: think we're all on board with him having to compete
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: for that.
- 1:30:39Speaker 8: I mean, I don't think like it's just carte blanche.
- 1:30:41Speaker 8: Go out there, you're the starter.
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: I just I mean, I agree with Fred's point that
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: the biggest thing was just the offense overall didn't play
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: into the strengths, nobody ever got it. But that doesn't
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: mean that I'm married to Mac and oh he's the starter,
- 1:30:51Speaker 6: come hell or high water. Like I think you've seen
- 1:30:53Speaker 6: it from the coaches. He's going to have to go
- 1:30:55Speaker 6: out there and prove that he can still do it too.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like I'm married to Macford the start
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: of this year. Yeah, like right, Like I I don't.
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: I don't really fully think that that Bailey Zappi is
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: in play to start Week one for the Patriots. I
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: think that's Mac Jones. But if we get to Halloween
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: and he's really struggling and they feel like it might
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: be time for a change, and they're headed towards the
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: change next offseason anyways, so you want to see what
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: you have with Zappy, then that's a different story. But
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: I don't really I don't think there's a quarterback competition
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: this summer. In real reality, I kind of feel like.
- 1:31:33Speaker 12: I'd agree that there's no competition, but I just don't
- 1:31:36Speaker 12: think that I would say he deserves it, as in
- 1:31:39Speaker 12: like before the draft, we shouldn't have even looked at
- 1:31:42Speaker 12: another quarterback.
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: Okay, but that's so, that's so, that's a different that's
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: a different conversation.
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: Thanks, Ryan.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: Oh okay, go ahead and answer well, I can take
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: it off the air. I thought we were going to
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: have a conversation, that's a different But if you're suggesting that,
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: you know, like, so let's use will Levis because he's
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: the only one that was available at fourteen, and he
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: was obviously in the Patriots news because of his visit.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: I wouldn't say that the Patriots shouldn't take Will Levis
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: because Mac deserves the right to have that. No, that's
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: not the same thing I'm saying. Given the current quarterback room,
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: in the manner in which they went about structuring the
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: offense last year, right down to Mike Dusseau rightly pointing
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: out that they took days off that they could have
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: been working on the offense in the summer that extra day.
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: And I have a theory about why.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: I think he deserves another opportunity to prove one way
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: or the other. Based on the Matt Patricia situation and
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: what they have, I don't think that they have an
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: option that's more palatable than mac Jones on the roster. Now,
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: if mac Jones plays like he did, you know, for
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: the large majority of last year, in my mind, then
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: Bailey's appy should absolutely be in line to earn a
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: job in practice. Like it shouldn't just be well, come
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: hell or high water, it's Mac Jones if he doesn't
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: play well and the other kids playing well in practice,
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: which we were led to believe at times in the
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: off season, right, he was pushing getting number one snaps
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: and what of these? Right, So if that's the case,
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: then he deserves that opportunity. This is not his job, like,
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: this is Tom Brady, this is Drew bledsone. That's not
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: what we're we're doing here. This deserves a chance. He's
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: the number one guy on this team right now today,
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: and he deserves the opportunity for that.
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: I just think it's different than I guess this is
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: what I was saying with with Cam when they drafted Mac.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: Can't remember Bill said that Cam's our starter, But once
- 1:33:52Speaker 5: we got the training camp, it was pretty clear that
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: Mac the door was wide open for Mactue.
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: There was a competition, right and even more so I
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: think leaning towards Mac already having the inside track just
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: based off of the reps that they were getting. But
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: I would agree with that too.
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: Bailey's appy, I think we're going to see a true
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: Mac is getting QB one reps, Bailey's Appy's getting QB
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: two reps. I'd be pretty surprised if there's any sort
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: of overlap.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: Feel Yeah, I do, I do, But I know Fred
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: does I feel this, But he's on a leash, and
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: I mean, I think that that's just the difference for me.
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: There's a difference between deserving another chance and deserving the job.
- 1:34:27Speaker 8: Like, I don't think he deserves the job.
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: He just deserves a chance again, and I'm not going
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: to write him off completely given the circumstances last year. Now,
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: do I have my feelings about how this might go, Yes,
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: I certainly do, but I'm still.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: Giving them and my choice on whether or not. It
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: was yes or no. For Levis had nothing to do
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: with Max deserving anything. It was whether or not I
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: thought Will Levis was worthy of that selection.
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: Yeah. I saw a great story about back recently. One
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: of his former teammates at Alabama. They had gone to
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: some I should know exactly what it was, but they
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: had gone to some sort of event that they had
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: to wear suit, suit, tie, dress shirt, you know, dress, shoes,
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: the whole thing. And after the event they went to
- 1:35:08Speaker 5: Alabama's practice facility. There walking by Alabama's practice facility and
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: Mac Jones turns him and says, hey, like, while we
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: go throw the football around, you know, just just mess
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: around a little bit. Next thing, the guy says, the
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: next thing, I know, I'm running full speed routes at
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: ten o'clock at night, you know from Mac Jones and
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: Mac is in a full sweat like, you know, full
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: workout mode where he both didn't have shoes on because
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: we didn't have regular you know, we didn't have cleats
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: or sneakers or anything like that. And I just I
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: do think that he has that that relentless work ethic.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: The question is does he have the physical ability like
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: I don't think it's a want to or an attitude
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: or a work I don't think it's any it's yeah, right,
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: like does he have that physical ability? And I just
- 1:35:53Speaker 5: you mentioned I thought of this because you mentioned Will Levis,
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: who I think is the total opposite from everything that
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: you hear about him. The reason why he fell to
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: the second round is because he's not really wired that way.
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: He's more worried about marketing deals off the field than
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: he is worried about you know, when does rookie mini
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: camp start. So I feel for Mack in that regard.
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: I think, like I find myself feeling for him because
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: I think he he does put in the work, and
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: he does put in the extra hours, but he might
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: physically just not be good enough.
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: I think that's like exactly what I said last offseason
- 1:36:25Speaker 6: about him, Like and I have issues with him, certainly
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: with you know, how we dealt with some of stuff
- 1:36:29Speaker 6: last year.
- 1:36:30Speaker 8: But as far as like.
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: Off season and what he's doing and organizing throwing sessions
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: and you know, maniacally pursuing his goal of being you know,
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: a top quarterback in this league.
- 1:36:39Speaker 8: I have no doubt he's trying all that stuff.
- 1:36:41Speaker 6: It's just I don't know if you can retroact or like,
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: if you can manufacture a superstar like I don't know
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: if if like if you just find the guy who's
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: willing to work the hardest than ever, that he's going
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: to be the best. There's just a certain level of
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: natural talent that I'm not sure if it's going to
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: be able to get him to that point, even.
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: Thought the work. I think I agree with everything that
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: Evan said about, you know, his work ethic and everything,
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: But at what point, you know, is it where you
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: know you're this player and you don't like the way
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: things are happening, and hey, Mac, just it'll be no,
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: I'm not gonna listen, No, this isn't right. Like, at
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: what is there a point where, even if you have
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: everything that Evan said in terms of work ethic and drive,
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: where you have to at least step back a little
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: bit and let your coaches coach and take orders and
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: not always be like I don't like it. It's not right.
- 1:37:33Speaker 8: You know, you know, it's maturity, right, I mean that
- 1:37:36Speaker 8: seems like a maturity.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: But yeah, but I think it goes back to what
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: Paul is saying at the beginning about today's athlete and
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: maybe just having to treat him a little bit differently
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: than than what you would have before. And I wonder,
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: if I don't know, I wonder how they could have
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: handled that situation better from the jump to get him
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: on board and even initially.
- 1:37:56Speaker 8: Extra day at OTA practices.
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: But I I just but I don't know.
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: I always hear stories about like Edelman, for example, and
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: I don't want to compare to Brady, so like with Edelman,
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: like you always hear those stories about how his dad
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: would like go out with like a you know, one
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: of those ball machines at six am and he'd be
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: fielding punts off the ball machine before school, And like,
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: I feel like Mac is wired that way too, So
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: I'm just what, like, is it just physical ability that's
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: the disconnect? Like, where is the disconnect between that the
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: guy that I know, the job at Alabama?
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: If your bill what's not to like? Does everything? Yes,
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: that I would think that you would love, right, But
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: he's got to be something with your word maturity.
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that that's probably is what it is.
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: Zach writes in I like the early roster projection Evan did. However,
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: one change I'm hoping for is that Miles Bryant doesn't
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: make the team and one of the two late round
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: corners work out. Having multiple over six foot tall for
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: three corners could be very beneficial against top teams. I
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: feel Brian is more of a liability than anything else.
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: I'll believe it when I see it that Myles Brian
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: isn't on in the mid Plus those.
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: Two guys, I think he's talking about Speed and Bolden,
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: not Gonzales, right, yeah, I would hope. So no, so
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: you have one plus six feet corner. I think the
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: other two are special teamers, and you know, talked a
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: little bit to Michigan State's special teams coach about a
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: mere speed and that's how he described I mean, he's like, listen,
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: he never he never talked about being a cornerback. You
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: always knew that his future, you know, lied on special teams.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: So I think that's what he expects. So I would
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: be stunned if you see these guys, you know, especially Speed.
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: I don't know as much about Bolden, but two years
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: from now, three years from now getting any kind of
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: regular reps as corner Yeah.
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: But but also to mention kind of what we were
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: talking about before was just that like those late round
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: kind of big corner like I mean there's size.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: Evan mentioned it in size and Webster types.
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: Yeah, six to two guys, ten four to three speed.
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: I mean, you know, if you're going to take a
- 1:39:57Speaker 6: chance of guys, it's the kind of guys you want
- 1:40:00Speaker 6: to take a swing.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: So that kind of tells you what. There's thirty thirty one.
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: Other teams looked at these guys and said, wow, six one,
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: six two, you know runs runs like that, Eh, seventh round,
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: so that they're telling you sixth round. So that's what
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: these guys are.
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: If they don't even think they had the ability to
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: play corner at that size and speed, then you'd be
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: Christian Gonzalez get taken in the first round.
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: I didn't even think twice about having Miles brian On there,
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: to be honest with you, I just.
- 1:40:34Speaker 8: Like he's part of that question.
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I haven't you know, there's just too
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: many I haven't looked yet. With Devin gone, just trying
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: to fill the brain drain of losing Devon by taking
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: a guy that they clearly trust and clearly has experience
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: in the system at both safety and corner. To take
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: that guy off the roster and put a rookie on
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: that doesn't know any of the things that Miles Bryant
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: knows about the defense and stuff like that. I just
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: that just doesn't seem.
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: I, you know, like them, I just thought of something.
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: And we spent so much time talking about everything about
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: this team, and and you know, we're talking about all
- 1:41:06Speaker 6: these special teams guys that they drafted, some they signed
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: Chris Board, they brought back Cody Davis, they brought back
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: Matthew Slater. And it's funny because I wish and I
- 1:41:14Speaker 6: almost feel like I need to write it is like
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: where's the deep dive about what exactly positions on special
- 1:41:20Speaker 6: teams did those guys play last year?
- 1:41:22Speaker 8: And I know Paul.
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: Were gone, but you know, really, like I, I do
- 1:41:27Speaker 6: think that there's something there about how is this a competition?
- 1:41:30Speaker 8: Like who is actually in competition? Who plays gunner? Who
- 1:41:33Speaker 8: who's you know, who's on.
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: The outside, And you know, like we just kind of
- 1:41:36Speaker 6: gloss over the special teams positions and it feels like
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: there's really a lot of roster competition that's gonna happen,
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: and and it almost we know all about five technique
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: and you know, week sidelinebacker and all those kind of positions.
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: But it's like, all right, well the L three spot
- 1:41:49Speaker 8: was really bad on the kickoff.
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: You know what I mean, Like, no one can speak
- 1:41:51Speaker 6: to that, but it's it's probably something that they is
- 1:41:55Speaker 6: trying to figure out what makes Brandon's school or a
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: better L three.
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: Yeah, then potentially Pierre Strong who's going to be the
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: backup running back which is great, which is for example
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: that ever used because Pierre Strong had a pretty significant
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: blunder on special teams in the Minnesota game. I think
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: he was the one that ran into the punter that
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: gave Minnesota that extra chance to take the lead in
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: the fourth quarter. So like I would ask that, like
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: why is the guy who just plays special teams a
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: better option than the guy who can perhaps be a backup? Now,
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: I think it'd be really interesting to watch speed in
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: Bolden when we get out there are they in the
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: Matthew Slater one on one course, probably school with schooler
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: in Mitchell right, de Marcus mitchell In Schooler were there
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: from day one of the spring? Well we see these
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: kids there too.
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: Yeah, Jerry and London says he wants to write about
- 1:42:51Speaker 4: rare burgers and steaks plus the football question. He said,
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: Fred was not quite correct, but on the right track.
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: A state can be cooked rare because the bacteria can
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: only be on the outside and the searing kills it.
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: We know that the interior is uncontaminated. That's kind of
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: what I said the beef. When the beef is ground
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: for a burger, the outer layer that would be seared
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: if cooked as a steak is now mixed up with
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: the rest, so it shouldn't be eaten rare. However, we
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: have a chain of burger restaurants here in London that
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: will serve them rare on request because the beef is
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: ground the same day from a full cut that has
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: been trimmed prior to the grinding process. They are safe
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: and delicious.
- 1:43:28Speaker 8: Wow, this is not my.
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: Time to shine as your resident burger expert, because I
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: am not one. I just repeat stuff someone told me
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: without fact checking.
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: It's kind of like Fred or something.
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Football point. Bill's offseason indicated to me that he
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: has no confidence in Mac. Why waste a hide pick
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: or trade for a top end receiver when the quarterback
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: can't get him the ball. Better to stock up on
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: defense and get that set up ready. For the next quarterback.
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: Just my perception, What are your thoughts.
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: I think that Bill still whole hardly believes that great defense,
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: clean special teams, and an offense that's just good enough
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: is going to win you eleven or twelve games. I
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: think that he's.
- 1:44:09Speaker 8: Still put you in the mix at the end.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: I see he still thinks that that core identity of football,
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: of play well in all three phases, deep roster, good
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: on defense, don't turn the ball over. I think he
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: thinks that those things, all those tenants Still.
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: I have no doubt that that's how he thinks. I'm
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: one hundred percent convinced that that's how we think. Just
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: what Evan just said. What I don't know is does
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: Bill recognize that as good as his defense has been
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: statistically over the last let's call it three years now,
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: does he still think it was bad luck or circumstantial
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: when he's gone up against the better offenses and struggled,
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: because more often than not against the better I'm not
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: telling you every single time.
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: Right, but the picks that they made there to make
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: the defense.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: I know. But I almost think, like I go back
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: to the Nick Saban quote, like I think Savment's right, Yeah,
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: I think that the great defense can only be so
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: great today.
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: Well maybe that's his point too, is like, yeah, we
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: did struggle against the better offenses, so does everybody else
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: right now.
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: But what I'm saying is you can make your defense
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: better and you can win games. I don't think you
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: could be a contender that way. Yeah, if you don't
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: get the offense, you.
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: Can only win one can only win one, right, it
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: can only.
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: Win one way?
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: Here now has the difference?
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just they can only make that difference.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: They can only win one game script, And if they
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: don't play to that game script, did they fall behind
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: or if they get into a higher scoring game they
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: lose every single time. Like it's the the math is
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: right there for you. Their record when they give up
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: twenty five plus points, they're over in the mac Jones era.
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: It just it's the same thing. And I just this
- 1:45:47Speaker 5: draft this offseason definitely speaks to the fact that that
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: he still thinks what I just said that those three things.
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: Well, I think I like I said, I'm one hundred
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: percent convinced that he thinks that.
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: Yeah, I'd also just say, I mean I think it
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: was somewhat you know, based on who was available, you know,
- 1:46:02Speaker 6: and like I do think that these moves that they made,
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: your defense was above your offense last year, and these
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: moves probably put your defense above.
- 1:46:09Speaker 8: But it also sets resets the ceiling a little bit
- 1:46:11Speaker 8: for me.
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: If these guys work out that, you know, maybe they
- 1:46:13Speaker 6: can get over the hump.
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: But if there was a.
- 1:46:15Speaker 6: Great wide receiver there, you know, if Garrett Wilson was
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: sitting there. This is a different year, Crystal. You know
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: what a differentation.
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: You guys liked more than just just Zay Flowers and
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: in the in the like you you liked other guys
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: instead of maybe like Kean wider Mapu.
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I mean tight ends, you know. That's that's
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: that's where I would go.
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: Mingo in a little bit earlier than I was expecting
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: him to go. I think he went thirty eight or
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: thirty ninth. And then you know, the one that's gonna
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: hat me is Josh Downs. Like, if Josh Downs ends
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: up being a good player, did what tea at seventy seven.
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: You're gonna be all right, sawsome video of him, but
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: like down there, oh yeah, he's got he looks pretty good.
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: He's going to struggle though with like if he had
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: gone to like Kansas City or and you're like, oh, geez,
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: now I got to watch this guy catch eighty balls.
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: Sky Waller will be okay.
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: Soil in Seattle rights in with no major upgrades on
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: offense besides Koseki. Uh, he says, besides maybe Kaseki. What
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: happens this team is picking in the middle of the
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: first round again, does the excuses for the quarterback now
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: become a lack of talent around him? This guy MATC
- 1:47:23Speaker 4: seems bulletproof in the media.
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: Oh, it's as as they say on my shows, right, Yeah,
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: let's not kill everybody for something that hasn't happened yet, right, paraphrasing,
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: Let's not blame anybody for something they haven't done yet.
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: Let's not say that it's not going to work, and
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: let's not say that Mac is bulletproof, because that's what
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: they're going to say. That said. I think that's going
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: to happen. I think he's going to have an average year,
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: and I think that the hue and cry after that
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: is going to be, well, what do you expect? You
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: got to get him weapons? I think he's right, that
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: is going to happen.
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: Well, I think I think the discerning viewer will know
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: the difference if if he's just not getting the ball
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: to open guys and it's Mac. You know if if
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: the whole offense just looks crazy again, then yeah, I
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: just hope that's going to happen.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: I think, look crazy, They're going to have a structure, right.
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: That's what I'm about to say. I think the guys
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: in this team, the weapons that Mac have our NFL weapons, right,
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: I think they're good enough. I think with them and
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien structuring it, to use Paul's word, we should
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: get a fair representation of who Mac is now in
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: his third year. I think we should be able to
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: make a clear decision on whether or not we think
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: he's got what it takes by the end of the season.
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: I just I just worry.
- 1:48:43Speaker 6: What if it's whack a mole and it's something else
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: every other week and one week he.
- 1:48:46Speaker 8: Looked like he looked, he looked pretty good last week,
- 1:48:49Speaker 8: he was terrible this week?
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: Or was he flat on his back?
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:48:54Speaker 6: Like, but what if you can't pin it down to like, well,
- 1:48:56Speaker 6: he was sacked six times that week and he was
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: bad and this week he wasn't you know, like like
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: if if it's just inconsistent, that's what's hard to pin
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: down what you're gonna get.
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: The week he's good, it's five for one oh one
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: for DeVante Parker, and then like two weeks later he's
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: not so good because Parker like turned an ankle or
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: something like. There will be something. I'm just telling you,
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: I think, But if it's.
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: Not gonna be and White I defended back maybe more
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: than anybody last year. But if we get to the
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: point where we're now and you're three of it being
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: mediocre at best, like, at that point, next off season
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: becomes a real quarterback conversation. Like I think all of
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: us even know, I understand what you're saying, Paul, but
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: I think at that point all of us would realize, Okay,
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: like this is not the answer, This is not the
- 1:49:40Speaker 5: long term. So even if you do surround him by
- 1:49:43Speaker 5: with all these weapons, I.
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: Mean, like they had injuries last year, but they also
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: had like the whole disgruntled thing, you know, burns in
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: the dog out the dog house and things like that.
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: I don't expect that other nonsense to be happening. There
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: will be injuries, guys will get hurt, but you know,
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: a good quarterback and a good offensive quarter be able
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: to figure that out and Okay, we're gonna have to
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: adjust a little bit here. Well I think, well.
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: No, well, yeah, I'd just love to see I'd love
- 1:50:11Speaker 6: to have Max surprise me, you know, as I just
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: I feel like what you see is what you get
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: in a lot of games with him, and and you know,
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: and I think that they like that to some degree
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: of just you know, hoping that he's going to be steady.
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: But I just for me, I would just that's one
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: thing I'm really waiting for, is like, win a game,
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: a game that you're up against. It it doesn't you're
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: against a good team. This is a playoff team. You
- 1:50:31Speaker 6: got to play perfectly, you know, and he and he
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: doesn't look great and he pulls it out like it's
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: just I don't see a lot of flip the script
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: kind of moments from him so far. And I guess,
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: you know, and and and it can be up and
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: down next year, but I just I think you at
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: least very least need to see some kind of glimpses
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: of like, yeah, but he had a couple of games that.
- 1:50:47Speaker 3: I'd like to see them because of offense. Yeah, right,
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: I mean that's I mean it's like whether it's like
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: you fell behind or whatever, but just you know, you
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: were good on offense throughout the game and you dictated
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: the game because your offense.
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: We think about like two tight games last year. Minnesota
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: was one where you know, they were moving the ball
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: and then the Raiders, right.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: They didn't move the ball again both games.
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: Mac is like, you know, like yelling no confidence in
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: what's being he's being asked to do. I don't see
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: that happening this year.
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with you. I agree with that. But like,
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: like the Vikings game was probably one of the best
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: games that they had, and then when it came nutcut
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: in time, they did nothing in the fourth quarter.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: And and that's when Mack was like, you know, arms.
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: The Raiders game was different. They were better in the
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: second half than the first. I think they onlyly three
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: points at halftime, and then really largely the second half
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: was Romadre Stevenson had like a fifty yard run in
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: like a long touchdown run. But they did enough in
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: the second half. I think they scored twenty one. I
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: mean seven of them were Kyle Dugar picked six, but
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: they scored enough points to win in the second half,
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: and then they go up to touchdown drive at the
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: end of regulation.
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: Markson Everett on the Ace ticket hut line, what's up, mar.
- 1:52:00Speaker 13: Hey, guys? How are you doing all right?
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: Mark?
- 1:52:04Speaker 13: So it's like cool the quick comment question food questions
- 1:52:08Speaker 13: for Paul. But I think we all know that he's
- 1:52:10Speaker 13: building up the defense, is going to fix the special team.
- 1:52:14Speaker 13: I don't think Maxon would be our quarterback for the
- 1:52:16Speaker 13: future just because of what we saw and how he
- 1:52:20Speaker 13: reacts to things. He can't carry the team in any way.
- 1:52:23Speaker 13: He doesn't make those trolls when you need it. I
- 1:52:26Speaker 13: think we all can see that. I wouldn't you agree.
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: If I had to say, I think you're right. I
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: don't think he I don't think he believes I think
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: that would. But I don't know what's in Bill's mind
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: for sure. But if you're asking me this year, yeah,
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: I think he did build up the defense.
- 1:52:43Speaker 13: You had to choose, can't pizza or steak and cheese?
- 1:52:49Speaker 13: Which one would it be?
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: The trade? The trade pizza without without without I haven't
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: had it in a long time, but yeah, the pizza
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: I love to blow.
- 1:53:00Speaker 13: Yeah, you guys, you know.
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: I love you guys, ever.
- 1:53:05Speaker 13: I love you.
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: Thanks Mary, right, thanks, these are my people.
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: You already knew what he's gonna ask me for.
- 1:53:11Speaker 8: Heyes, and he didn't even say anything like.
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: Saw I saw Mark from Everett. I don't know who
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: Mark is, per se, I probably I probably do know
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: who he is, but I didn't know which mark that was.
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: Probably owed your money, but it said Everett and it
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: was a food question, so I automatically assumed.
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: Which.
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: There's nine thousand sub places in Everrit.
- 1:53:28Speaker 8: Yeah, de Blasi says, the one Deblasis was my favorite.
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: The spot Ryan Atlanta, besides the Gonzales pick, the booty
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: pick in round six piques my interests.
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: The most they call my.
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: Big thing with him is that he and Born are
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: slightly redundant. So what do you think his role will
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: be in twenty twenty three? Do you think he gets cut,
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: gets the Foxborough flute, or potentially pushes KB off the roster?
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: And this is the biggest stud complaint. I got chocker
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: about my my Rostert. I cut Butte because of this
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: because Juju Born Butte really similar players, like all the
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: three of them are really similar players. So unless Butte
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: really pushes one of those guys off the roster, out
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: of the rotation in training camp, then how does he
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: fit into this puzzle? Whereas with the Mario Douglas, he's
- 1:54:20Speaker 5: got a uniquer skill set. He's got he brings something
- 1:54:23Speaker 5: to the table that the other guys don't. So at
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: that point I was like, well, I got to see
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: it first in training camp from Butte to see if
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: is he gonna be the old Bote or is he
- 1:54:33Speaker 5: the new Boute? And if we get to that point
- 1:54:36Speaker 5: in August where he's a stud, then we revisit the conversation.
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: But until I see that I agree with the email
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: or that he's a little bit redundant to the other guys.
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: So can he push Kendrick Bourne out of the rotation
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: or even off the roster? Well that's a see.
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: That was the quot. We had a question the mail
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: bag this week, just you know, simple, straightforward. You know,
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: give me a wide receiver corps that that ends up
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: making the team. And you know, I started, I think
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: most people will be like, well, there's four obviously, right,
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: Well for me, there's two obviously. You know, Juju's not
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: going anywhere and Taekwon Thornton in my mind is not
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: going anywhere. I can make an argument for the Douglas
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: is in the Booties to like really emerge with strong
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: springs and summers that they take a step back. And
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: I know that they don't have anybody that has Parker's
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: size and skill set, so he would be safer than
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: born in this scenario. But if Bill really loves these
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: two kids, I could see an argument where you could
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: take a born In a Parker and maybe see if
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: you can, you know, get a draft pick for them,
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: or get someone else's guy that they're going to cut
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: in a different position that you know, maybe play special
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: teams and fill it in, you know, for like, I
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: don't think they are locks. So in other words, I
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: do think that Booty in Douglas could emerge and make
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: born In Parker irrelevant. Now, again, no one else on
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: the rosters like Parker in size. I think they like.
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: So I think that he stays, and if someone were
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: to go, my money would be on board. I don't
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: think it's a foregone conclusion. I think all four of
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: those guys will stay, and then one of those kids
- 1:56:14Speaker 3: will stay, because I don't think they'll keep six.
- 1:56:16Speaker 6: No, I just want to see how those guys spark
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: with mac too, like you.
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: Know, sixth round picks, right, like you do. We have
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: to find roster.
- 1:56:23Speaker 6: Spots for I was just like one of them. I
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: would just if one of them, one of them should
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: make it.
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: Because they have four guys and they carry five, so
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: one of them should make it. But I just go
- 1:56:33Speaker 5: back to with Douglas. I know what to Mario Douglas
- 1:56:38Speaker 5: can bring to the offense in terms of his skill set,
- 1:56:41Speaker 5: and I know what he's going to where his deficiencies
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: are that his size and his play strengths are going
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: to be issues, but he's going to bring some of
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: that Marcus Jones explosive.
- 1:56:52Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:56:52Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: I compared him to like Nicole Hardiman, right, you know,
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: like does he brings that little bit of of nuance
- 1:56:59Speaker 5: and creativity to his game, whereas with Boute he's like
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: a traditional receiver and you're gonna have to really have
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: him push one of those up veterans for a spot.
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: And I I just I went back with Parker. I
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: just think that he's unique too.
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: You know, there's no I agree. I would say it's
- 1:57:16Speaker 3: less of a chance for.
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: Partly, right, you know, his size and ability to play
- 1:57:19Speaker 5: the X is unique to the rest of the guys
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: on the on the on the roster.
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: So but you also save a little bit of money
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: there too. And you know the other part, those those
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: you know, fourth, fifth, and if you wanted to keep six,
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: those receivers need to have some versatility and play special teams.
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: I don't really think that that's in the skill set.
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: And I know Douglas has return ability. I don't think
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: you want Marcus Jones off of part returns. And Douglas
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: also had a really hard time catching the ball on punts.
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: He had a lot of fumbles on punt returns. I
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: don't think that sounds like someone that Bill's gonna say, oh,
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: we'll keep him because he could be a punt returner
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: until he proves that he can.
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: Bet he's definitely more naturally a kick returner, and Marcus
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: Jones is more naturally a punt returner. So maybe maybe
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: that you're enlightening.
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: I would rather have Marcus Jones doing both.
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: I'm with you on that.
- 1:58:09Speaker 3: If I can't get my dugger thing that I've been
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: wishing to every time and all that ain't happen, don't
- 1:58:14Speaker 3: tell me to wrap it up, Okay, Okay, we can
