- Brandon: Well, good morning, good afternoon, and good evening once again, and welcome to another episode of the Daily Word Podcast. Today is August the 11th, and I hope that wherever you are and whatever you're doing, you're having an amazing day. My name is Brandon, and one of the pastors here at our church, in case we haven't met. And it's such a privilege and opportunity that we get to do this every single day to open God's Word, hear from Him, and share it with you. That is the whole point of our we're doing this number one to bring to you a daily word of encouragement Maybe it's instruction. Maybe it's teaching but something to put in your pocket and take with you into Your day your week the rest of your life But also this is a daily reminder for you to spend time with God I'm telling you I love that people use the daily word podcast as kind of their daily Thing but I would just encourage you. This is a supplement not not the real thing. And by real thing, I mean that God really does want to meet with you every single day and speak to you in a powerful and a profound way. So we're just taking time. We're looking at the New Testament portion of our Life Journal reading plan and sharing out of that. So today, our New Testament reading, is John chapter 13. And I want to share with you two different verses from this passage that I think are tied together, have application for our life and how we are living. Here's what it says, John chapter 13, let's go verse 15 and then we'll go, you know, in fact, I'm going three verses. Are you okay with three verses? We'll just go 15, 16, 17. I was going to do 15 and 17, but why not connect the dots? So we're going to walk over the bridge of 16 into 17. Here's what it says. For I've given you an example, this is Jesus talking, for I've given you an example that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Let read that last verse again. He says, if you know these things, Blessed are you if you do them. And here's the insight that I'm catching out of this little passage, or these couple verses rather, and it's that following Jesus, it is supposed to be us imitating and emulating and becoming more like him. There are different people that you can follow on podcasts. I if you're a podcaster, you're obviously listening to the Daily Word podcast, but I mean long format podcasts. But there's different podcasts that you can listen to, different topics, maybe it's health and fitness, maybe it's sports stuff, maybe it's spiritual, I don't know. But there's different podcasts that you can listen to and you're listening to the podcast and you're getting the information they're giving you, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you're applying it to your life or you're becoming like that podcaster. You're listening, you're getting information that's interesting, that's cool, and maybe I'll apply it, maybe I won't apply it, and I'm not necessarily trying to become like that podcaster that I'm listening to. I just subscribe to or follow that podcast. And if we're not careful using that podcast analogy, that's how we can think about following Jesus. Jesus is the best podcaster ever. I subscribe, I like, I tune in to the Jesus podcast. and I listen to his words, they're so insightful and encouraging, and they give me goosebumps sometimes, and I go to church, and I'm about it. But we forget that that's not what Jesus has invited us into. Jesus says, take up your cross and follow me. Die to yourself daily and take up your cross and follow me. And here, verse 15, he says, for I've given you an example that you should. do as I have done to you. I haven't given you an example that you should just watch, but I've given you an example so that you can do it. You can follow in it. He says, for assuredly a servant's not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him know were submitted under Jesus, and we're following his example, and here's what he says, that if you know these things, blester you if you do them. What's the point that I'm clumsily trying to make? That we're supposed to be doing what Jesus did. We're supposed to be looking at the example that Jesus has given us, and we're supposed to be doing, living in his ways. He doesn't say blessed if you know them, but blessed are you if you write them down in journal on them. No, says blessed are you if you do them. There is blessing, there is reward, there is peace, there is life, there is joy. All of those things are found in the ways. of Jesus as we're walking in them, as we're doing them, as we're following this pathway or this example that he has given us. And so my insight leads to this application for my life, for your life, and I'll give the application in question form, are you doing what Jesus has asked you to do? Are there things currently in the scripture that you know but you're not practicing? Are there things currently that Jesus is speaking to you, but you're not obeying him in? Are there ways currently that God has made very clear to you, but you're not walking in them? The application is start doing what Jesus is asking you to do. Be a doer of the word, not just to hear. Be one who is obedient, not just one who is informed. Don't like and subscribe to the Jesus podcast. Collect all the information, but forget that I'm supposed to be doing this. Becoming like him applying it to my life. Why because this is what Jesus has invited us into it is not an intellectual ascent But is the transformation of our life? The the old WW JD bracelets. Do you remember those? What would Jesus do that? It's it's cute It's cliche, but that really is supposed to be the model of our life saying no, what would Jesus do? I'm trying to walk in and follow in the example that he has given me. What's one of the number ways? Number one ways that I can do this. This is why we encourage our daily Bible reading and journaling. It's every day come into the scripture and prayerfully saying Jesus show me your ways. I can't walk in your ways if I don't know your ways. Jesus show me your ways. Every day come into the scripture and say Holy Spirit show me the example that Jesus has left for me because I can't follow the example if I don't know the example. So show me your ways. Show me the example and help me and empower me by your spirit, Lord Jesus, to do, to obey, to walk in what you've asked me to. This is the life that God's invited us into. So big conclusion, yes, be a hearer of the word, but don't be a hearer only. Be a doer of the word of God. Why? For Jesus said, if you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Lord Jesus, I'm praying for myself, but for everyone who's listening today. Help us, Lord Jesus, to not just be hearers of the word, but to be doers of the word, to live this out in our everyday life. In Jesus' name, amen and amen. Well, hey, thank you again for joining us today for another episode of the Daily Word Podcast. Can't wait to talk to you again tomorrow. Let's keep it going.
