- 0:00Some things I love about your guys dynamic, one of them Tico
- 0:03is you get this really great face when you're about to poke
- 0:06at Enzo. Like before you say it, you have
- 0:09this like really shit eating grin.
- 0:10It was perfect. It's like you see it coming.
- 0:14Every day, mate. I know.
- 0:16Yeah, we've got you. I just, I already know it's
- 0:18coming. As soon as something said I'm
- 0:20not here, it comes. Hello, welcome to episode 93 of
- 0:22Draft Off Science. I'm with Tico and Enzo and Nate.
- 0:26My name is Keith and we have a, we have a different type of
- 0:30absolute for you today. We have we have our league
- 0:32champion on for one of our leagues and we're just going to
- 0:36ask him a few questions. It was his first year playing
- 0:38and he made a fool out of all of us.
- 0:40So we're going to see what his if he has any insights for us.
- 0:45Tigo, I was, I was this close to making a banner to match yours.
- 0:48By the way, I love that you do this.
- 0:51I was going to like draw on a piece of paper.
- 0:53I was like, it won't hold. Man, what have been funny?
- 0:56Would have been fun if you did it.
- 0:57We don't. A lot of tika did it.
- 0:59Yeah, and I agree also. I don't think you were quite on
- 1:02yet, but did you notice Tika was like, do you see what I put
- 1:05under my name and where I was like me and have been doing that
- 1:07since like the first week? You can.
- 1:09He was like all proud of himself.
- 1:12He figured out like a new. Little why he's not a real
- 1:14champion. It was a it was actually a very
- 1:16youth thing, and so it was like very like for discovering like
- 1:19monkey discovering fire type technology moment it.
- 1:22Was also me just showing what kind of mood I was in for that
- 1:25episode. So spend time on stuff like that
- 1:27instead of focusing on building a good fantasy team.
- 1:29That's why he doesn't have. Oh wait, don't worry, I told you
- 1:33Moneyball. OK.
- 1:35But OK, I feel like when you keep saying Moneyball, that's
- 1:37kind of the whole point of fantasy.
- 1:38Like you're like you're just, you're just what we're supposed
- 1:41to be doing. I'm going the next.
- 1:44What? You're going to be like, OK,
- 1:46who? Whose wife has recently gotten
- 1:48pregnant? Like.
- 1:50Who's getting divorced? Because Pep would have won the
- 1:52league this year if he wasn't getting divorced.
- 1:53Just saying. It was going on Twitter and
- 1:55following every soccer player, following them on this again
- 1:58just to see what the person following the wives.
- 2:00Already done that. That's what happened with Tuko
- 2:02when he was coaching Chelsea. He went through a divorce and
- 2:05then they started collapsing. So there's something there.
- 2:07Kyrie Allen, when he had that really that bad spell, it's
- 2:09because he had his having issues with his newborn son.
- 2:12It's it's very true. Or not to.
- 2:14I mean, again, I think you guys preface this.
- 2:16I think this is one of those questions you sent, but it was
- 2:18like Enzo Fernandez breaks up with his wife and just goes.
- 2:23That was that's like the inverse though, like that's you don't
- 2:25expect that, right? That's true.
- 2:28Just something that's traffic. Well I just realized he's your
- 2:31team mate. Well, this is going to be
- 2:34trouble. We also see that.
- 2:39Kidding. OK, no, that's that's my fair.
- 2:45That is actually the team I prefer.
- 2:46But you can't like I can't watch them.
- 2:48I can't get into like it's hard because it's hard to get them.
- 2:52I'm not a not, I don't have the Real Madrid, you know.
- 2:55Of being around Bush, Nate, I think it's.
- 2:57Been around, I think I wore this hot on purpose.
- 3:01Oh. God, Oh my God.
- 3:05Congratulations again. Second, for three years.
- 3:08Thank you. I do.
- 3:09We're we're. We're we're money balling it.
- 3:13Just he is an Arsenal fan. He has a pretty cool Arsenal
- 3:18hat. I got to say way better than
- 3:19thank you and. Better than what your brother
- 3:22has? Is that what you're going to
- 3:23say? I feel like you.
- 3:23Were no, he actually has the the jersey on the side, which is the
- 3:26the Ari Henry. My brother has that jersey since
- 3:29like forever with I think the old square on there.
- 3:31Yeah, yeah, those old school ones.
- 3:33Yeah, yeah. That's cool.
- 3:36All right, let's get in some news and notes before we start
- 3:38picking Nate's brain a little bit.
- 3:40First off, transfers. Actually, this is perfect
- 3:43because Nate's here. I've been hearing Gorkarez to
- 3:45Arsenal kind of heating up. Are you as an Arsenal fan, are
- 3:48you more or less excited than for that than Cesco?
- 3:51Do you have like any sort of like feelings for that either
- 3:53way? Because I, I have opinions now.
- 3:55I've given myself like a week and a half to like form opinions
- 3:57about what I what I think would be best, but I'm curious what
- 4:00you think. I feel like I should maybe
- 4:02preface that I like hijack 99% of what I think from other
- 4:06people. So like most of what I'll
- 4:09probably say throughout the day is like stolen.
- 4:12I mean, I think like a lot of what I've read or I've heard or
- 4:15I've listened to is like, you know, Cesco is the right long
- 4:18term approach or the right long term project, but can he be as
- 4:23impactful? And clearly Arsenal need, I
- 4:26mean, let's not beat around the Bush.
- 4:27They need like trophies now. So can Gorkarez produce more now
- 4:33and he produces more later? It might be the right long term.
- 4:36I don't I I haven't seen him much.
- 4:38I've actually seen a lot more of Gorkarez just because of a
- 4:40number of things I don't know about you guys.
- 4:43Have you seen much of Cesco outside of the Europas last
- 4:46year? Outside of a few YouTube
- 4:49compilations, not really. Yeah.
- 4:50Not really. But I think I think to to echo
- 4:53you, it's like 4 right now with Arsenal needs.
- 4:56I feel like Gorkarez is probably a better bet because Cesco's is
- 4:59a development project, right? And Gorcras is like, win next
- 5:02three years. And if you like this, teams
- 5:04aren't going to be together in five years potentially.
- 5:07You know when Cesco's, when Cesco's at his peak or at the
- 5:10point where he's going to be like in his prime, you know?
- 5:12Yeah. And again, I don't know what you
- 5:14guys hear about this, but it like he gets a lot of
- 5:16comparisons to like a young Isaac.
- 5:18And so it's like, yeah, we would love that.
- 5:21And yeah, he was probably our first choice if we could have
- 5:23got him, but obviously that's not happening.
- 5:25So it's like, do you wait three years at him developing into
- 5:29that, or do you hopefully get 25 goals from Gorgres?
- 5:33I think you said it, man. You don't want a young ISAC, you
- 5:36want the ISAC, right? Now, yeah.
- 5:37You don't want that. So like Arsenal needs someone
- 5:40that's going to score goals and even though Yokarez is already
- 5:44done in the Portuguese league, he's he's banged in some bloody
- 5:47goals. Yeah, so.
- 5:48That's what you guys need. I think that's the biggest
- 5:50concern though, is like you look at the last few like 10-15 years
- 5:54of strikers coming from the Portuguese league, it is like
- 5:56this, like it doesn't translate, you know, like you look like
- 5:59Darwinitez and you look at some of these other guys, like
- 6:01obviously I'm John Felix years ago.
- 6:03Like it's not like it's like like for like, like you.
- 6:05Just because you do it there doesn't mean you can do it in
- 6:07the other league. So there is that concern.
- 6:09I think that's where a lot of the hesitation comes, right?
- 6:11Because otherwise Gorkhas would have already been gone for 100
- 6:14plus bail. So you think fancy wise not
- 6:18worth to pick up even if he gets to Arsenal?
- 6:21Good question. I didn't say that.
- 6:22Good question. I think it'll be.
- 6:23Interesting. I think it's it's scary.
- 6:25I also just I don't know why it's only been narrowed to these
- 6:29two and I get it is now but like why awesome and hasn't been like
- 6:33a stronger pull? Why Arsenal doesn't seem to be
- 6:36able to attract like these bigger names at times Like it
- 6:42seems baffling. Small club, small club and we're
- 6:46all all, we're all thinking it, we're all thinking it.
- 6:48YouTube. YouTube fucks can say that you
- 6:50taught them supporter. I've got a, I've got a trophy,
- 6:55my man, and it's a European one too.
- 6:57It's like we're gonna come to this.
- 6:58We're gonna come to this later. I have thoughts about.
- 7:01This Oh yeah, moving on real quick, this I just saw this
- 7:03morning, Luis Diaz rejected a Liverpool contract, a new
- 7:07Liverpool contract. And that just gives me a lot of
- 7:09concern for that like the next like 2 months of speculation
- 7:13around him. Are you guys starting to feel
- 7:15that at all? Like as far as especially for
- 7:17fantasy, like if someone who's was potentially going late first
- 7:20round, early, mid second like I I'm not sure if I'm even
- 7:23remotely touching him now until there's some sort of clarity
- 7:26here. Well, he's doing.
- 7:28He's got one more year left. He's got 2, but no one wants to
- 7:31let, they don't want to let a contract run down to one year,
- 7:33you know? Yeah, but they could and.
- 7:35Choose the new one. He, you know he.
- 7:37Could be doing what Salah did, you know what I mean?
- 7:40He could be doing what Salah did.
- 7:41But I think the difference with him and Salah is like he it's
- 7:43like very clear he wants to go to Barcelona.
- 7:45Like that's like a. Very.
- 7:46Did he say that? It's like he's he wants to play
- 7:49in Barcelona eventually. In his life, he won't go there
- 7:51if Nico goes there because Nico's also said he'll play
- 7:55Barcelona. But Masala is also a club legend
- 7:57and one of the greatest players in the world, whereas Luis Diaz
- 8:00is Luis Diaz. But I've never heard Tico like
- 8:03suck Salah so hard until he had him on his fancy league.
- 8:07It is true, Tico. Yeah, was.
- 8:10Born in Egypt, I'm a Corder Egyptian.
- 8:14You found your identity through. He did.
- 8:18What's it called? I have a 23andMe to 20.
- 8:20Three and me just to yeah just to find that like some sort of.
- 8:23Connection 0.05% for getting DNA test nothing.
- 8:27But So what what's the what's the thing?
- 8:29How do you guys feel that? Is it not you're just it's just
- 8:31whatever. Like it's too early to be
- 8:33panicking. I.
- 8:33Think he still. I think he still plays for
- 8:35Liverpool this season. You think so?
- 8:37I think so. Even if you really look at this
- 8:39team, the only one on this little team I'd be a little bit
- 8:41worried about not getting minutes is probably shoppers
- 8:43like with IF. What's his name coming?
- 8:47In words, I'm so not convinced that they're going to play him
- 8:50that far back. I think he played plays along
- 8:53the front line. I just can't imagine them asking
- 8:55him to do a bunch of defensive work the way it's so besides as
- 8:57in that Liverpool team. So beside, there's a lot for
- 8:59that team. I don't think so.
- 9:00Beside gets benched. Yeah, I was, I was I was reading
- 9:03somebody said they might move into a diamond.
- 9:05So grabbing Birch at the back, McAllister so beside and put
- 9:08words up top and then left. Those two just go crazy.
- 9:11Salon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:14I kind of I, I know you're saying that.
- 9:16But also they're waiting like didn't they basically get 2
- 9:19insanely fast wing backs or one's done and they're like in
- 9:24potentially another? Wrapping up with quick guys yeah
- 9:27so it'll be yeah the whole team can change they can switch to a
- 9:29back the back three you know and then have the wing backs yeah it
- 9:32could be a whole different dynamic they're.
- 9:34Going to be scary good, scary good.
- 9:37Especially with, I mean there was 1 rumor that it's like it's,
- 9:39it's probably fake when I shared it in our our group chat.
- 9:42But it's that what was it that that Athletico was like talking
- 9:46about a swap deal with Nunez and Alvarez potentially like cash
- 9:51plus money for Nunez, which would then it feels like that
- 9:54would like break the league if Alvarez went to Liverpool.
- 9:57Yeah. But that's either here or there
- 10:00until that's a little firmer. OK, next, next one in Bueno.
- 10:04We were talking about it. It seems like it was the talks
- 10:07cooled off with Tottenham. Is that back on Enzo?
- 10:08Are you seeing that? Yeah, it looks like it's back on
- 10:10because Tone's Franks and it's just rumors though Yeah, money
- 10:14talks and then Bimbo is hungry for money so he's going to go to
- 10:20May and I, which is the Saudi of the of the league and get paid
- 10:22because we're not going to pay him 250 bags.
- 10:25Who's going to pay? I'm Tomlin comp.
- 10:26Tomlin doesn't even play Son enough.
- 10:28Money, I think they're like it's at one point is like Champions
- 10:31League is worth like how much is that worth for just his
- 10:34prestige? You know, like he would.
- 10:35Would he take 150 less a week, 100 less a week to play in
- 10:40Champions League? I wouldn't.
- 10:42I wouldn't. Would you?
- 10:44No, I don't know. No, no, that's not a biased
- 10:47answer. I would, I think, especially
- 10:50with the, especially with the rumours of if, because you'll
- 10:54get using it for first in football anyway.
- 10:56But if Son goes to Fenabacci, which is another rumour which I
- 10:59don't want to happen because it's only €30 million, he'd be
- 11:02the star man along Solanke. So and Madison, you say?
- 11:07He's going to play Champions League, but it's Champions
- 11:09League for only one year. It's not like he's going to be
- 11:11playing champions for like the next three years.
- 11:13It's just one year he gets to play Champions League and then
- 11:15he's back to the leader 5 for like 15 plays.
- 11:18We'll see. So I'm going to I'm going to
- 11:20poke a couple of these. There's some things I love about
- 11:23your guys dynamic. One of them Tico, is you get
- 11:25this really great face when you're about to poke at Enzo.
- 11:29Like before you say it, you have this like really shit eating
- 11:31grin. It was perfect.
- 11:33It's like you see it coming. Yes, every day mate.
- 11:39Yeah. Everything.
- 11:40I don't know. Yeah, we've called you.
- 11:42I just. I already know it's coming.
- 11:44As soon as something said I'm not here, we come.
- 11:45You can see it in his eyes all. Right.
- 11:49What about Semenyo as a like, would you be excited about both
- 11:52of them as I go to Tottenham? Because they're kind of in the
- 11:54mix too. If IMBWIMBO doesn't kind of
- 11:56happen, it sounds like both you know and Tottenham are fishing
- 11:59in the same pool. I wouldn't mind getting two out
- 12:02of three, you know what I mean? That'd be a pretty good window
- 12:04to get 2 of. Them yeah, yeah, yeah, two out
- 12:06of three that'll make me happy. Like obviously I prefer Eze and
- 12:10and Bwembo but I wouldn't mind Semenyo who's had a great season
- 12:14so. OK, What about for fantasy?
- 12:18Do you think that they could be just as good going to, I think
- 12:20just as good going to Tottenham? I feel like yes, Man United, I'm
- 12:23a little nervous about either of those, so.
- 12:25Yeah, I was going to say, here's a question.
- 12:26How did the Brentford players score?
- 12:28The attacking Bradford players score on the on the Frank.
- 12:31Incredibly well every year. Exactly so above where they
- 12:34should have for sure. I also just I mean, this is this
- 12:38again, pains me. Many things we'll talk about
- 12:40that pains me about being an Arsenal fan at the moment.
- 12:42But like, who would you rather be like all this upside you get
- 12:47Thomas Frank, young team, healthy team.
- 12:49Think about those three guys that you just named and Wemo
- 12:53Simeno, whoever the third was, and it's like, I would much
- 12:57rather be chasing those guys than anybody Arsenal was chasing
- 13:01like Tottenham. Big upside.
- 13:04I feel like I I cannot draft any of your players.
- 13:07I refuse to, but part of me is like I should go after all of
- 13:10them. So I feel about my United
- 13:14players right now. Yeah, I I, I bet that boat a
- 13:16long time ago. I just, I'll draft anyone of us.
- 13:18I don't care anymore. I can't, I can't have, I can't
- 13:21have loyal like club loyalties when it comes to that fantasy.
- 13:24It's weird. I think my passion for disliking
- 13:26Tottenham is more than my passion for Arsenal.
- 13:29So it's like weird in that way. I know, I know the.
- 13:32I know the feeling, I know the feeling I had, but I had habits
- 13:36last season, then he fucked me, so I won't be.
- 13:38Able to fucking drop that. But I'll see you.
- 13:40He's good. Until he wasn't.
- 13:43All right, real quick, Club World Cup.
- 13:45Did anyone watch the game last night?
- 13:47Actually, it was. It was.
- 13:48It was. Probably late for you.
- 13:50Yeah, yeah. It was partially good football.
- 13:54The other moment. 00. 00 But there was a penalties penalty
- 13:58saved actually that the, the, the other team that was an
- 14:01Egyptian, the Egypt, they were the Egyptian champions.
- 14:03They actually kind of dominated in a Miami fake, big chunks of
- 14:06that game. They had good good passages.
- 14:08Blade part to be honest. I honestly think that those
- 14:11those games are going to be the most fun, like like not involved
- 14:14in the European teams like the the European team games, I think
- 14:17might not be as good, but like all these those games where
- 14:20everyone all suddenly like cares a lot like, you know, like the
- 14:22Egyptian champions going in like today Bayern Munich is playing a
- 14:26team that is literally like a semi pro team from from New
- 14:30Zealand. Like how that's cool.
- 14:32Like that's a. Dentist on there?
- 14:34Yeah, like the like the leading striker, like works out like a
- 14:36tool shop. You know what the fuck?
- 14:38It's cool. I mean, it's kind of like a fun.
- 14:40It's like one of those. Yeah, I think it's.
- 14:42Like us going up and playing against into Miami.
- 14:45Well, no, they still they still like they still beat their they
- 14:48still win their region like saying us would be like.
- 14:51Yeah, but what if we want us our Little League on the Sunday?
- 14:54OK, then we'd be the best, we'd be the best team in like a a
- 14:57mile radius. But that's what I'm saying, it's
- 15:02this. It's just as bad.
- 15:03It's just on a global scale. I think that they'll be better
- 15:05than you think. Against Bayern.
- 15:06I think it'll be like 4 nil. I think if we played them it
- 15:09would be like 30 nil. I think I.
- 15:12Think the first half. I think we get a goal.
- 15:14I don't get at least one. Against against Byron Munich,
- 15:18yeah. We don't even go.
- 15:20We don't even get a shot on target.
- 15:22Even a shot. Not even on target, we don't
- 15:24even get a shot. If we gathered all our old
- 15:26teammates. And so don't.
- 15:28This is this is the conversation.
- 15:30If you got it, if you get half, I think that's a.
- 15:33Win, yeah, And we play. We do big Sam football big.
- 15:37Sam, if we get our team, uh huh in this magic able whatever that
- 15:42all of us are in our prime, physical prime and we're playing
- 15:45together. I was a specimen.
- 15:47We don't get a shot on target. I don't get a.
- 15:49Shot on it's it's the good guys are so big.
- 15:51No, no, no, you guys are so big. You put Frankie OK.
- 15:54We don't. We're not.
- 15:55We don't. Do this.
- 15:56OK, OK, OK, OK, OK. You saw?
- 15:58It a horrible conversation. No, you started, Keith.
- 16:01A couple of rumours I saw. So Fabrizio retweeted today that
- 16:04Garnacho is prioritizing staying in the Premier League.
- 16:08Not sure if it means I think I apparently moved to a buyer.
- 16:11Leverkusen is going to be very difficult.
- 16:13So he wants to stay in the Premier League.
- 16:15The other one is, I think last week I mentioned that Real
- 16:17Madrid are not done with the signings and the two names that
- 16:19I heard today in the morning is gonate from Liverpool.
- 16:24OK. Oh, Konade.
- 16:25OK. From Liverpool and then the
- 16:27other one impacts late is Maz Luis Kelly from Arsenal.
- 16:31Those are the two players is. That real are you?
- 16:33Are you just saying that feels like you're just going to Nate
- 16:35the shit? Is it a poke?
- 16:38Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's real. I've heard that too.
- 16:40Actually. That would suck on.
- 16:43That would suck. Because I think we need a left
- 16:45back so. I'm sorry, why don't I get
- 16:48enjoyment out of I don't I? Don't know.
- 16:50No, I guess they weren't. They saying there were
- 16:52complications and because they were trying to redo him and Don
- 16:54Noir's deal and there's been complications in getting it
- 16:57done, of course, that's what. I want to pay him too.
- 17:00That growing like like, but I feel like it's a little too
- 17:03early to be going to a club like that for like a Lewis Kelly or
- 17:06something. Just really an odd decision.
- 17:08I also, not to get in a massive tangent, but I'm also sort of
- 17:11curious how often like these clubs like play the media game
- 17:15or the PR game just to like real somebody else in from their
- 17:21other stuff. We got to go close this thing or
- 17:23maybe they're just better at it. But as a fan, I'm like just like
- 17:27hyperbolic. 100 percent, 100%. I think the Garnazzo news is
- 17:33actually interesting. I like because there's a lot of
- 17:34teams where I feel like he would all of a sudden become like a
- 17:36pretty big fantasy asset to. Brian well.
- 17:40He would never go to Brighton, but yes, Brighton.
- 17:42But it's like, I think what? What do you think?
- 17:45What team would you think you want to go to?
- 17:46I know he'd want like European football doesn't mean he's going
- 17:49to get. It I think he could go to
- 17:50Arsenal really easily. I think Chelsea is a possibility
- 17:52as well. Chelsea feels like a good fan,
- 17:54feels like the right attitude for that place.
- 17:56Real shit bag I. Like him?
- 18:02You know, he went him and Enzo Fernandez would get a really
- 18:04long on that. Left side and you know, if
- 18:08there's a winger available, Chelsea are interested.
- 18:10Yeah, winger. It's like he's under 26.
- 18:13He takes all the boxes for Chelsea.
- 18:15Exactly. Stupid little haircut, that'd be
- 18:19great. Lots of sass sounds about right.
- 18:23All right, let's get into the the, the Nate section of this
- 18:27podcast. So, Nate.
- 18:28Special section, Nate Well. In our 12 man league, it was his
- 18:32first year playing with us. But you've played fantasy
- 18:34before. Because I remember when I was
- 18:35talking to you about joining our league, I mentioned I was like,
- 18:38oh, would you want to play? And you, you got really serious
- 18:40and you're like, oh, I'm not sure if I really should.
- 18:42I get, I get like I got like really, really obsessed in a way
- 18:45that's like not really healthy when I do.
- 18:47And I was like, I was like, well, now you have to play.
- 18:50Now I need to see this in action.
- 18:53But like, what does that mean exactly?
- 18:55Like when you said because you did get obsessed like you, you
- 18:57managed to win in your first year, which is really
- 18:59impressive. Like what does that what, what
- 19:00does your obsession look like? God, it's embarrassing.
- 19:05I probably should admit that all of this No, but I so I played I
- 19:08I've never done fan tracks. I played FPL once and even what
- 19:14this like part of it, like one thing I actually love about it.
- 19:16It's sort of like the people you meet kind of the relationships
- 19:19you build. And so like that time I did it
- 19:21with a couple of friends, I was overseas.
- 19:23So it like kept me closer even this like being able to have a
- 19:26regular reason to like bounce ideas off of key for you guys or
- 19:30other people. That's like so much of that's
- 19:33like a big part of the fun. But then just in my personal
- 19:37life, I tend to have like this like 01 to 100 attitude on
- 19:41everything. Like I either don't do it or I
- 19:43just do it to like an unhealthy level.
- 19:47And so yeah, I think, and especially not understanding the
- 19:51point system really, I think it gave me this like extra
- 19:54curiosity. So I like like knowing FPL,
- 19:59which I'll get into a bit because I actually think kind of
- 20:01helped me in some ways. But then just it like the
- 20:04beginning felt like like just I got to learn everything.
- 20:07I got to understand everything. It was like fun to try.
- 20:11And again, 99% of it was garbage because even knowing what I know
- 20:14now looking back on it was like, Oh my God, that was so stupid.
- 20:18But. I don't know if that answers the
- 20:20question. Yeah, a little bit.
- 20:23When? So what are some of those
- 20:25mistakes that you thought were so stupid?
- 20:28OK, so like some stuff I know I feel like I know better now or
- 20:31like, let me give you another example.
- 20:32Like all this transfer talk. Even Keith, when you reached out
- 20:35to me last summer, I didn't really think about players
- 20:38coming in or players moving. So like this idea of like I'm
- 20:42going to butcher his name, the left back that just went from
- 20:44Wolves to City at Nori. Like that would be a concept of
- 20:49that would have never registered in my brain last summer.
- 20:52And so like some of that movement stuff, I mean, I did a
- 20:55little bit of like, I even like tried to do a couple of punts in
- 20:58our draft around people I thought would come in or like I
- 21:01did this really dumb thing with Joe Coachello of like, oh, he's
- 21:04coming back. He's going to play pepton and
- 21:06we're going to smooth things over.
- 21:07So I'm like, I'm going to get these guys.
- 21:09So it was like some of that stuff I didn't know.
- 21:12One of the things I I shifted my strategy a lot towards was like,
- 21:17I didn't you guys told me about this, but I didn't really know
- 21:20what ghost points were like that is a concept was like I could
- 21:24read it and I could kind of like be like, OK, but I don't think I
- 21:28realized how important that was just because you have you seem
- 21:32to have these like chunks, these guys who are just massive
- 21:35scores. And then if you can find these,
- 21:37these guys who are like, I don't know, 9 to 12 points on average
- 21:40consistently, like that can be the ball game.
- 21:45So. But I don't really know.
- 21:47Yeah, exactly. Moneyball within Moneyball.
- 21:51Yeah. So I did it.
- 21:52I was like a lot of learning about that stuff or like, I
- 21:55think this is skipping around in your question, but like, I think
- 21:57two other things I did. So like FPL, because everybody
- 22:01shares players. I think I've only played one
- 22:04season, played one season, so I could also be wrong about this,
- 22:07but it's all about finding those guys who heat up at the right
- 22:10time. So when everybody has Salah,
- 22:12everyone has Holland, everyone has I it's like who got Emblemo
- 22:17early enough? Who got Cunha early enough?
- 22:20Who got I don't know who got Nico Williams?
- 22:25Yeah, exactly. When they heat up at the right
- 22:27time and then also is willing to let him go.
- 22:29But you guys probably saw this. You guys made fun of me for
- 22:32this, rightfully so too. Especially in the first.
- 22:34I was just moving people constantly.
- 22:36Like constantly trying to trade, constantly picking up,
- 22:39constantly dropping because it was very much this.
- 22:42Like trying to find people at the right peak like FTL does.
- 22:47But I think there's some there's some logic to that.
- 22:50Like I like I look at your draft, you had a solid draft,
- 22:52but ultimately what one of the league was you're kind of you're
- 22:55trades and waiver acquisitions, you know.
- 22:58And so there I think there is some logic to that where there's
- 23:00a feeling of being really loyal to players that's like very you
- 23:03don't there's you have I have very personal.
- 23:05Yeah, it's very it gets very personal when I feel like you
- 23:07were did a good job of like just dropping people or moving people
- 23:10pretty quickly. Yeah.
- 23:11Yeah, I just, I just figured out how to take out Nate next
- 23:15season. Give it to me.
- 23:17You're. Gonna share it?
- 23:17You're gonna. You're keeping it close to chat?
- 23:19No, no. No, we we got to add it to the
- 23:21league. It's the same thing we added to
- 23:23our to the main league. You're going to say, yeah, it's
- 23:26actually if if you guys wouldn't do.
- 23:28I don't know what you do in your mainly, but if if you like put
- 23:32the whatever, not the points, but like I'm paying.
- 23:34Yeah, fab. If I can't just cycle through
- 23:36test drop, test drop, test drop, I'd be fucked.
- 23:40Well, you. Still can you can.
- 23:42Still you can. You can.
- 23:43You can bid zero fab on people. You still can.
- 23:45It's just a matter of if someone else bid on them, you won't be
- 23:47able to get them. Yeah, got.
- 23:49It but what you wouldn't have to worry about is because someone
- 23:52always puts like 50 fab on like Rodri or something who?
- 23:55Wouldn't put 50 fab on Rodri. He was a top.
- 23:57He was a top. 50 player on Marino.
- 24:01His collarbone exploded the day after the end of the league.
- 24:05You're going to have that kind of foresight.
- 24:06You know what? I.
- 24:07Mean they do you want to guess how many trades you made this?
- 24:10You can look right up. I I actually have it up right
- 24:14now and you sluts, you made a trade with every single one of
- 24:17us. I'm not buying.
- 24:22And you made 12 trades and I did.
- 24:25You. You and I made the most
- 24:27irrelevant trade that I've ever seen in fantasy.
- 24:30Durant. Which was what?
- 24:31Durant, Durant, Sally March. Was Durant even the league at
- 24:35that point? He was on my team.
- 24:37I traded, yeah, we traded. And then he got to move like a
- 24:40week after. And then obviously March never
- 24:42became March. Out of nowhere.
- 24:44He just offered me Duran. When Duran was like on the hot
- 24:46streak and March was just on my bench.
- 24:47I was like, sure, I'll take it. This is 1.
- 24:49Of the crystal ball, man, it's the crystal ball.
- 24:51But I think this is again, this is one of those things I
- 24:53rethink. So I'd be interested in your
- 24:55guys's opinion is like, again, I learned this term, but stacking.
- 25:00So I at one point was like having all these players where
- 25:03it was like, and Vince, you'll remember this was I had Diaz and
- 25:08I had. Slovosla.
- 25:11No, and Gak and Gakpo, Gakpo and I don't know why I didn't just
- 25:15fucking sit on both of them, to be honest with you, but I was
- 25:18like, I got antsy with this like on and on again, off again on
- 25:23again. I'm like, I don't want this.
- 25:24I want exactly. And then so I was like trying to
- 25:29off I was like, I need to get rid of these guys.
- 25:31They just I wanted people that like I knew were going to start,
- 25:33knew were going to get me 10 points but.
- 25:36Like I can't remember the trade we were trying to do together,
- 25:39but it just went back and forth for like 2 weeks.
- 25:41Yeah, just. Ridiculous, I think.
- 25:44I think if you look it up too, I thought about this.
- 25:46I was like by even by points, not even sort of like
- 25:50subjectively, I think like I probably made some of the
- 25:52stupidest trades. Keith, you and I had some two
- 25:56really lame ones. But each, just each one, each
- 25:59one is really bad. Like I gave you a really bad
- 26:01trade. Yeah, They really dawned out.
- 26:02Yeah. Oh, thank God that you let me
- 26:05bounce back because it was really bad for a while there.
- 26:08Are there any other metrics that you look at?
- 26:10Well, like looking at waivers drafts that you think are
- 26:12overlooked? Like we talked about ghost
- 26:13points. Are there like specific things
- 26:15within Ghost Points or are there any other things you kind of
- 26:17look at or is it just kind of the general?
- 26:19Yeah, I, I, I think within the ghost points, I think again.
- 26:24So I should preface by saying of the many, maybe this is a
- 26:28different question of the many resources again that a lot of
- 26:30you guys helped click me into like there's the guys like the
- 26:35Banta boys on Discord or. Something, yeah.
- 26:38And they have a, they had a cool discord and there was even one
- 26:40guy in particular who's like my little fucking Yoda, I would
- 26:44like to have a question and I would like pop it in discord and
- 26:46he'd be like super thoughtful, really good, really, really good
- 26:50dude and. This motherfucker was cheating
- 26:53on. Us exactly, but he had he had
- 26:56this term, I guess it's the normal term, but he would talk
- 26:57about again these purple patches finding these.
- 27:00And so I think back to your point within, if you really
- 27:04narrow into those metrics or not only ghost points, but they had
- 27:07like trend, like the equivalent of like a ghost point trend.
- 27:12I, I think those were nice because there's sort of my sort
- 27:14of theory, I guess was like have 8 solid guys and then try and
- 27:19get as many of these right timed purple patches.
- 27:23And when you start seeing those trends a couple of weeks
- 27:26back-to-back, that's when I personally would be like, OK, I,
- 27:29I'm willing to take a bet. One guy I think is dropping
- 27:32one's going up. Sometimes that blows in my face
- 27:35candidly. But so that that trend side of
- 27:37it is something I looked for a lot.
- 27:39Yeah, I think that's really smart.
- 27:40I think that's super interesting.
- 27:41I think that's we all kind of speak to for sure.
- 27:45But it's also it's like it's AI think it's just as hard as
- 27:47identifying when to drop someone.
- 27:49Yeah. And it's like, so yeah, I, I and
- 27:52I, I couple of times I made some or traded some dumb ones.
- 27:55I traded Damsgard like halfway through the season, luckily got
- 27:57him back somehow in a ridiculous trade.
- 28:01But I didn't think I traded Cunya.
- 28:03I think I traded Cunya like I got them both back somehow.
- 28:06Yeah, I mean, at what point you traded Bruno Fernandez to me for
- 28:09Kevin de Brion when he went he KDB went on like A2 game streak
- 28:13where he hit like 20 plus and you get you traded and I was
- 28:16like, Oh my God, yes. I made this.
- 28:17I made a terrible calculated bet on Man City thought when they
- 28:21had remember they had like 4 games where they kind of like
- 28:24boom boom boom and tons of goals.
- 28:26I went all in for Man City. I was like, I have enough of a
- 28:30bit of a cushion here. I have enough of a deep bench.
- 28:32I can like risk some mistakes and I just went hard and I mean
- 28:37they got better, but both the Brine Silva, I traded away Omar
- 28:44Marmoush after I got him and he was great.
- 28:47So I like, I went all in and I was like no.
- 28:50And I traded them all away or dropped them, which was so
- 28:52stupid. All right.
- 28:54Last question for you, Nate. How much was the dropped off
- 28:57size, the reasons you made the decisions you made is that who
- 29:00put that Enzo? That sounds like an Enzo
- 29:01question. It was definitely one of the
- 29:04like main ones, although I did this again overthinking chess
- 29:08match thing where I sometimes again, Keith and I know each
- 29:12other so well and for so long I thought sometimes he was bathing
- 29:15me with things of like trying to get me to make him an offer for
- 29:19like I felt like it was around Odegard a couple times.
- 29:23Like it felt like you wanted to get rid of him and I had kind of
- 29:27put him in transfers. So at times I was like, I think
- 29:31I'm getting like clickbait. So he.
- 29:34He does do that in our in our in our other league, it was
- 29:40essentially down to Keith and me the last like 5-6 weeks and none
- 29:43of us had a fat. Well, Keith had no fat and he
- 29:46kept making an emphasis on he's like, he's livermento's the only
- 29:50player you have to pick up if you have fat.
- 29:51That's and then Enzo, who didn't want me to win, just it went
- 29:55completely over his head. He didn't put a waiver FAB on
- 29:58it. I don't put all my FAB on it
- 30:00because I thought that's Enzo's probably going to go for it.
- 30:02So I was still my FAB. I got the player, but it was
- 30:05kind of trying to bait Enzo into picking up a player.
- 30:08So, So what you're saying, what I'm hearing is that it works.
- 30:10I got you to spend all your fab. So I don't know.
- 30:14Oh, your. Goodness in sheep's clothing.
- 30:16Yeah, exactly. Keith and I and our other good
- 30:18friend, his old roommate, used to play a lot of Monopoly.
- 30:20And this, this kind of stuff was like very Monopoly Keith of
- 30:24like, yeah. And you can't say anything.
- 30:26You're like, no, don't listen to him.
- 30:27Don't do that. That's a terrible.
- 30:29Yeah, skip the orange. You don't want that.
- 30:30Orange is terrible like. What that sounds like, Keith.
- 30:35Yeah, but he's good at it, to his credit.
- 30:37And he's, he's sincere. Truthful.
- 30:41OK, moving on. So I want to talk.
- 30:43I, I made a list of XG over performers from last year and I
- 30:47thought it was kind of interesting looking at,
- 30:49especially because there's some players more so than others.
- 30:51OK pulling. Up so other people can see.
- 30:53Oh yeah, yeah, that's. True.
- 30:55Not everything is about you ends up.
- 30:58OK buddy, absolutely enough. Be quiet.
- 31:00We have a real champion in the room, so be quiet.
- 31:05OK, share skin. He doesn't just rely on one
- 31:08player to win a league, you know what I mean?
- 31:09So it's funny, he just said how diverse he is.
- 31:12It's funny, in my notes I had a whole section about how if you
- 31:17had Muhammad Salah, it was like you basically had to fuck things
- 31:20up not to win. Essentially, thank.
- 31:23You. I like it.
- 31:24It was my, it was the only thing I could find a way to try and
- 31:27poke at Dico, and it just fell. It fell apart.
- 31:30It just didn't stand. Well, I mean, he he tried his
- 31:33best to fuck it up, but. He did.
- 31:35He did try his best. Luis Diaz.
- 31:37Mushrooms. All right, so looking at this, I
- 31:42think the, the biggest thing that stands out for me here is
- 31:44the like the XG differential of like 6.376.55.
- 31:49And look at both those players, especially going to United as to
- 31:51me as like kind of a wild situation.
- 31:54Because you look at you look at like extra performance and the
- 31:57best players can over perform the XG, but it's usually by like
- 32:002. You know what I mean?
- 32:01Like Muhammad Salah, like over performance actually by like 2.
- 32:04And it's like not the big deal when you're going by it, when
- 32:06you're over performing, you're actually by like 6.
- 32:08There's just no world where that's not going to be like
- 32:12that's not going to like regress influential, you know, and so I
- 32:15think those two are the biggest ones.
- 32:17And like, I'm not saying that they could potentially have more
- 32:19opportunities. You know, it's not like saying
- 32:21that they won't score as many goals, but just it's that's very
- 32:24alarming from that standpoint that actually over performance.
- 32:27And then obviously the Chris Wood one, we've talked about a
- 32:29bunch and I think like force in general, like over performed,
- 32:32you know, like their, their X points, like their X expected
- 32:35points, they're expected, like goals conceded, like everything
- 32:38they did was over performance. So that's the other one.
- 32:41And then Matea Kovacic just is like kind of funny.
- 32:44It's like a like, that's like an insane amount of XG over
- 32:46performance for six goals. He had an XG of 181.81.
- 32:49He scored or sorry, he had an XG of 1.81.
- 32:52He scored. Yeah, 6, which is just wild.
- 32:57But like I I, I don't know how relevant Kovacic is going to be
- 33:00anymore with all the new signings for for Man City.
- 33:02Yeah, and with Rodri coming back, he's got to be.
- 33:06Yeah, yeah, the Awobi 1 is interesting because I we, we
- 33:09always talk about Awobi as like getting Awobi points, which
- 33:11essentially just means he's a really good ghost point guy, you
- 33:13know? But also he did over perform his
- 33:16XG by a considerable amount, almost four, yeah.
- 33:20And then he's he's a third round pick.
- 33:22And the Charlie's, yeah, then the last one that I think is
- 33:24like kind of really noteworthy or Diallo, I mean is in the
- 33:28sense that that's he almost doubled his XG compared to what
- 33:31his point out Leigh was. So to me, you.
- 33:32Still think you still think he's going to be in the first round
- 33:35early 2nd. Round pick not for me.
- 33:37I think maybe maybe someone will take that risk, but I think for
- 33:40me personally, like I think there's just too much going on
- 33:42there. You know, if if if one more
- 33:45player comes, it doesn't even have to be a boemo of Simenyo.
- 33:47If anyone else comes to United, I really think it puts into
- 33:51question where do you always going to be playing?
- 33:52And I think like a wing back. I just don't think you can rely
- 33:55on the numbers that he was getting in his limited time that
- 33:58wing back to be like how he is whole season.
- 34:01And I think that actually like kind of points to that as well
- 34:04that he was he was very much over performing, you know, and
- 34:09then I think when you look at the other ones I got, none of
- 34:11them are like that crazy like Bowen 3, but he's always he
- 34:14always kind of over performs next year a little bit.
- 34:16This is slightly higher, but it's also like one of the
- 34:18historically bad years for them. Madison, you know I.
- 34:22Think Madison is is still valid saying that he didn't play as
- 34:27much last season and like I think he could be one of the
- 34:32ones could that could break out next season under Thomas Frank.
- 34:34And that's not me being biased as a Thomas fan, it's me being
- 34:37like tactical wise, Frank will work better with Madison as a as
- 34:42a a ball creator like who create more goals.
- 34:44I completely. Agree.
- 34:46I fully agree. I pulled up the XG for like the
- 34:49previous years as well. Looking at Madison the last
- 34:53three years he's had years where he over performed by 5.54.17 and
- 34:561.5. So he does have a history of
- 34:59over performing. But looking at the list I think
- 35:02the one that I would think could replicate it is Cunha is the one
- 35:07that's the most solid 1 for me. Sounds like.
- 35:09A. Why is that?
- 35:10What do you think? No, it's it's the Brazil bias.
- 35:14It's not the man you. Just sorry.
- 35:16Yeah, one of those. Yeah, just.
- 35:18To be clear. True survivors.
- 35:22Figure out, get my bias straight just because I think we talked
- 35:25about this as well last year he over performed his XG as well,
- 35:29right? Or like the last two or three
- 35:30years. So it's one of those where like
- 35:33you said, great players always over perform it.
- 35:36Maybe not by this much, but also he should be on a a more
- 35:39talented team. I guarantee he'll go on a 5
- 35:43match ban at some point because he's so fucking pissed off at
- 35:47United he's going to kick a ball well.
- 35:49I fucking a. Referee, I feel the same way,
- 35:51but like you don't know who the target of it's going to be.
- 35:53And I I think I said this like is he going to be mad at
- 35:55Abraham? Is he going to be mad at his own
- 35:56players? Is he going to be mad at the
- 35:57ref? Is he going to get mad at like
- 35:59opposing teams players? You just never know.
- 36:01Well, Garnacho's gone, so at least you know it might not
- 36:03happen. Exactly, exactly.
- 36:06That would have been a good one. The Argentinian Brazilian
- 36:08rivalry and now on the same side now.
- 36:10Mm hmm. I've been nice.
- 36:12I agree. I I this again.
- 36:14There's so many of these examples where I think
- 36:16Tottenham's gonna be scary. I think James Madison could be
- 36:19so good under Thomas Frank, like you were saying I could be.
- 36:22I fully agree too. I'm so in that same camp.
- 36:25I also think that like we just don't you forget how good he was
- 36:28two years ago. You know, like the reason he was
- 36:30drafted early second round was cuz he was great and then he had
- 36:32that injury and even that injury put him further like higher up
- 36:37and higher up than he should have been.
- 36:38Like, you know, like further back he was like he probably
- 36:41would have been a first round picker.
- 36:42He was healthy all season last year.
- 36:43So and then there again, I don't I I think this makes sense, but
- 36:47like I can never pronounce his name.
- 36:50What's the Australia, your ex coach's name?
- 36:52Now post the local clue and let's go with and he you know,
- 36:57he made those claims like at the beginning of the year, which I
- 37:00think makes sense is like when they are that far down in the
- 37:02league, they're going to focus on Europa League.
- 37:04And I think Madison was one of the guys you saw right.
- 37:07He just was like he was trying to keep him more healthy out of
- 37:10more league games, focusing him more in Europa.
- 37:14Like he could be so scary next year.
- 37:17Well, I hate that. I hate that for me all.
- 37:22Right, next thing I want to talk about, I want to talk about some
- 37:24some top some big drop off players.
- 37:27So players that were were in the top 25 and 2324 went fairly high
- 37:32in drafts and then had a dramatic drop off 2425 or even
- 37:35not even that dramatic just fell out of the top 25.
- 37:37And so I put compiled a list here and I'm going to go through
- 37:40and then I want you guys to kind of say tell me who you think has
- 37:43the best chance of returning to the top 25.
- 37:46So Phil Foden, who was drafted in the, you know, first second
- 37:49round, he ended up finishing 48th overall.
- 37:52Then we have Odegard, who is, you know, first rounder ended up
- 37:56finishing 32nd overall. Son again, like late 1st rounder
- 38:00finished 48th overall. Gordon, like right on the turn,
- 38:04the 1-2 turn was finished 57th. Bruno Gumares.
- 38:09Gumares, Bruno Gumarez, 49th overall.
- 38:12Solanki, 130th. Declan Rice, 46th.
- 38:16Kai Haverts 135th. James Ward Prowse, who was going
- 38:20in the second or third, ended up finishing 239th overall.
- 38:23Enzo's shaking his head. Muhammad Kudus finishing 86th
- 38:28overall, which was another one that was like what?
- 38:31Second, second round, third round?
- 38:33Watkins not that bad, went in the first round, but he finished
- 38:3629th. Still disappointment for first
- 38:38round value, right? Tarkowski 31st overall and then
- 38:43Rodri 400 and 93rd overall. Cause of injury though?
- 38:47What? Was the question is who will go
- 38:49back into the 25? Yeah.
- 38:50Who do you who from this list of guys who were kind of like quote
- 38:53UN quote bust, who do you think as the best chance to kind of re
- 38:57regain their kind of elite status?
- 39:01If you're going to go off, I know you guys have mentioned
- 39:04Foden, I think that's a great shot, but you also look at the
- 39:05players, man, see brought in. That's what I'd be worried about
- 39:08with Foden. If I was going to say one player
- 39:11from here, and I hate to say it, if if they get a numbers, a
- 39:16number six exhibit play which they have, Rice will have
- 39:21another season like it did two years ago.
- 39:24Now, we all thought you were going ODA guy.
- 39:26ODA guy? Yeah, all of us thought you were
- 39:27going ODA guy. No ODA, ODA guy's done.
- 39:30I think Rice is Rice is the main guy for me.
- 39:35Rice, Rice, baby. That's my boy.
- 39:37That's my England bias. OK.
- 39:41So that's interesting. So you think that Rice is going
- 39:43to score in the top like because Rice was what he finished like
- 39:46mid like in 2324 was like a top 15 player and then he jumps on
- 39:5146. Look, his corners are amazing
- 39:54again. What's his name?
- 39:56The centre back Megalis. He'll be back.
- 40:00So that's another big target from from his corners.
- 40:03I think he's going to start taking free kick now after doing
- 40:05those two weldees against Real Madrid, right?
- 40:08Tico Mimbados. Necessary comment, OK.
- 40:12But I think Rice, if he gets to play more that number 8 role and
- 40:16has more of an attacking threat and carry and is able to carry
- 40:19the ball, he's gonna have a good season next season.
- 40:21OK, yeah, that I, I mean makes sense.
- 40:24I know it makes sense, yeah. I don't, I don't hate it, but I
- 40:26also think Odegard is up there too with someone you can talk
- 40:29about. Do you guys, does anyone have
- 40:31any faith in SAWN? Are we, are we everyone off the
- 40:33sawn chain as far as like you think it's a declining, Is it a
- 40:37sailing ship And it's just a matter of if he stays, if he
- 40:39does and then it's a question of how far does he slide?
- 40:44Like how far does he decline? Like would you risk a second
- 40:47round or on them? I personally would not.
- 40:50If I would, maybe if it was like the end of the second round, I
- 40:52think it's where I'd be OK with him.
- 40:55I'd be OK with him at the end. Of the because at the end of the
- 40:57day, he finished with like what, 12 plus points per start?
- 41:00Yeah, like this was a bad season under like a historically bad
- 41:03team and it was still wasn't that bad.
- 41:05Thanks. You know, OK, thanks, Keith.
- 41:07It just that's true. He wasn't a bad team.
- 41:09That's. True.
- 41:11Historically. Historically bad.
- 41:13OK. I mean, was it not historically
- 41:15bad in the Premier League? In the Premier League it was
- 41:17historically bad. I know you won a trophy, but in
- 41:19the Premier League it was. That's a big sigh.
- 41:21Mm, hmm. Mm hmm.
- 41:25Okay, why is there no fucking Chelsea players?
- 41:27Won't he? Because we don't drop off the
- 41:30way you guys. No one underperformed.
- 41:33No one underperformed, no. One really overperformed, then
- 41:36underperformed because you have to think about 2324, we finished
- 41:3912th, so no one was finishing top 25 and not really then
- 41:43underperformed. Paul Palmer.
- 41:45Well, yeah, he didn't. He didn't.
- 41:47Yeah. I think the the safest bet is
- 41:48Tarkowski and I. He would have finished top 25 if
- 41:52he had got an injured. He'd missed the last.
- 41:54What is it like 5-6 games? True and Yep.
- 41:57And you remember how bad of a start Everton had they let him
- 42:00like. A truly, that's true as well.
- 42:02Yeah, those are both really good points.
- 42:04I think that is fair. What do we even think about?
- 42:07Like Muhammad Kudus as someone that like had such a good
- 42:09season, like a good season and a half, and then I think everyone
- 42:11was really proud for him to have a such a good year and then it
- 42:14just really disappointing. But I think it also has to do
- 42:17with the trajectory West Ham has been the last couple years.
- 42:20I feel like coming into last year, they had like some high
- 42:23hopes but didn't pan out. And then this year they were
- 42:26pretty bad as well, not not consistent.
- 42:28So I think it's it's the team. So to me, like let's say like
- 42:33him or Anthony Gordon, right, who also was injured this year,
- 42:36but the previous year he had a very double double 11 and 10.
- 42:40I'd rather take Anthony Gordon and I think the drafts are
- 42:43probably going to be pretty similar where where they get
- 42:46drafted I. Think Gordon goes way ahead of
- 42:48kudos. Yeah, way ahead, Yeah, yeah,
- 42:51after last season. But it's all about if Potter can
- 42:55get sorted out and and line that ship up.
- 42:58Is that better? I think what you're saying is
- 42:59that like Kudos isn't good on his own as much, you know, like
- 43:03he's he needs to almost be in a team that's good.
- 43:06You know, like, like, you know, certain players can like like a
- 43:08Bruno Fernandez that's going to drag a team with him and
- 43:11generate points and be a good player where I don't know if
- 43:13Kudos is at that level where he can, but.
- 43:15You know, team didn't really change much in the last two
- 43:18years. Yeah, they added a bunch of
- 43:19players, but those players didn't stop.
- 43:21Talking about West Ham, yeah, but they they definitely were
- 43:23worse. I'm not like, even if the team
- 43:26didn't change, they definitely didn't.
- 43:27They didn't like, like they, they stayed still and everyone
- 43:30else moved, you know, so. You think you think it was more
- 43:33of a solo performance from kudos like his performances
- 43:36individually that he needs a team around him to.
- 43:39Well, I, I mean, it's, I'm, I'm curious.
- 43:41I I don't know, I think we'll see another year and see what
- 43:42happens, but there's definitely some of that going on, right,
- 43:45Because I'd like he clearly West Ham were better or like it might
- 43:47just be a system thing too. Like he like like David Moyes
- 43:51got to get the most out of kudos.
- 43:52And you see that time and timing out with David Moyes that he
- 43:54can, he can kind of get get a ring out of a player and then,
- 43:57you know, kudos. There's a lot of uncertainty in
- 43:58Everton with the coaches and what happened.
- 44:00And I'm sorry in West Ham with the coaches and what happened
- 44:05there. So maybe maybe just like maybe
- 44:07they just figure out how to get the most out of kudos do.
- 44:09You think he stays? Do you think he stayed there?
- 44:11That's. The other question too.
- 44:12I mean, I've heard rumors, I mean.
- 44:13What? Me too.
- 44:14Like what? Where, where are you guys
- 44:16hearing I? Thought it was in Spain, Was it
- 44:19Athletico or something like that?
- 44:22Athletico, I heard. Maybe Chelsea.
- 44:24Winger. Yeah, I heard.
- 44:26Maybe Arsenal too. That doesn't think.
- 44:29We're we're in for a lot of the same guys because we're we're
- 44:31real short in that same left. Wing position exactly Well,
- 44:34wasn't that one of the thoughts was he was sort of out position
- 44:37this most of this year. It's just also he seems at times
- 44:39like demotivated like he like. I.
- 44:43Which I don't love. I think they're like with the
- 44:47the best foil to him too, is you look like Jared Bow and he like
- 44:49plays out of position all the time and still like does the his
- 44:52job and is like he's like the most like professional
- 44:55professional ever. Like no matter where he's
- 44:56playing, what he's doing, his numbers are so incredibly
- 44:59consistent. And he's not the best, but he's
- 45:01like he's really solid. Where I think kudos like, like,
- 45:03yeah, without that, without like being put in the right position
- 45:06to succeed. Clearly didn't like thrive, you
- 45:09know, Yeah. So I think that's that's
- 45:10concerning. I think if he went somewhere
- 45:12where he was motivated, he had to like push every game game in
- 45:15and it'd be pretty fun to watch. I agree.
- 45:19And I think, and that's kind of how it felt when he first showed
- 45:21up too, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 45:22Mm. Hmm.
- 45:23You know, like he was just like clearly he was trying.
- 45:25I feel like. Yeah, like Nate to your point,
- 45:26like he's I feel like he's lost out a little bit.
- 45:27Like he's lost like the the joy. Yeah.
- 45:30You know, all right, now I wanna just go through from the current
- 45:33list of top 25 players who has the greatest chance to drop off
- 45:36and become one of these guys that like falls down the the
- 45:39pecking order. So I picked some names out.
- 45:40I'm curious what you guys think. I picked out like Anthony
- 45:43Semenyo as one potential, Alex Iwobi as another, Nathan
- 45:47Collins, Chris Wood, Johann Wissa, Anthony Robinson, and
- 45:52then I don't know, maybe adding you up to the calendar, OK.
- 45:57Are there any names there that you like?
- 45:58Who who of that list you guys feel like has the most potential
- 46:01to be one of these players that was top 25 then falls out of
- 46:04that kind of coveted? What would be what?
- 46:07What is the obvious one? Yeah, I think so, yeah.
- 46:09And especially, again, not to lean into this ghost points
- 46:12idea, but he's just so goal dependent whereas everyone else
- 46:16is like, pretty well-rounded. So goal dependent and then also
- 46:21over performed is XG by 4 almost 5 you know so.
- 46:26Are they getting picked apart too?
- 46:28Are forests going to like, lose everybody?
- 46:29Like like Brentford is being talked about or not necessarily.
- 46:34Have you heard my I mean, I haven't heard many rumors yet.
- 46:36I mean, I know mortgage white is always rumored to go somewhere,
- 46:38but at this rate it does like who is even go?
- 46:40It doesn't sound like city's going to get them.
- 46:42So I don't know who else would really need them or want them.
- 46:45You always hear about Marilla and Malenkovich.
- 46:47If that partnership breaks up, you don't know what happens.
- 46:49But like Alanka and Hudson is joy.
- 46:51I don't see them going anywhere. They're.
- 46:53Enjoying that football. Game I think like their center
- 46:54mids are pretty locked in as well.
- 46:57I think, I think you said it with, with Frank going to
- 47:00another team, Collins might drop out.
- 47:03Will he have like a different like I need to send it back?
- 47:05He might drop off. He also like he's so weird to me
- 47:08I'm still trying to figure it out.
- 47:09So he had 11 or he had 7 assists in fantasy and only three in
- 47:13like his official stats. So there's some sort of like
- 47:16thing, like some sort of like, I don't know what they're how
- 47:20they're qualifying it like he drew a lot of penalties because
- 47:22you know, like sometimes fantasy will give gives an assist for
- 47:24something that is it in like official Optus stats.
- 47:27So like, and also like I, I, I don't, I don't buy the Collins
- 47:31thing either. He's the one that I would say
- 47:34like I feel like every year there's a one or two defenders
- 47:36that just has like this crazy surge of like value and then
- 47:39like they drop off again. And I feel like he to me just
- 47:42screams a player like that. Screams Moneyball.
- 47:45Or the opposite of moneyball. Oh manches, Manchester United
- 47:49ball play. You just you pay over the top
- 47:51for someone that's has a good number like good numbers where
- 47:54they're all gilded did. That massively change that for
- 47:57you guys, I mean for how long you've been doing this like the
- 48:00fact that they changed that rule last year where they won goal,
- 48:03they don't lose any points or whatever is that just?
- 48:05Like it's changed it, yes, but I like you think huge Edza.
- 48:09I feel like for defenders and goalkeepers, not losing that
- 48:12extra 2 points. It makes a difference.
- 48:16A difference. Only them.
- 48:18Didn't you bring it up in the show, Tico?
- 48:19Didn't you bring up a thing that was like defenders in the top 25
- 48:23or top 50 this year from last year and it's like triple the
- 48:26amount or something crazy? It is, it has helped a lot
- 48:30because especially like it's not going to impact like Manchester
- 48:34City defenders, it's not going to impact Liverpool defenders
- 48:36that much. But middle of the pack teams
- 48:38like for example, like Fulham, I think Anthony Robinson putting
- 48:42up the numbers that he did this year, probably a lot of it is
- 48:45they probably gave up a lot of, you know, one goal and the -2
- 48:49points you you don't get it and that's pretty huge.
- 48:52So the average goes up a lot. So it does help a lot of
- 48:56goalkeepers. I think three of us are in the
- 48:58mindset of like you could just rotate a goalkeeper unless you
- 49:01have like one or two of the elite goalkeeper.
- 49:03So and to me didn't impact the keepers that much as much as the
- 49:05defenders. I also think too, when I look at
- 49:08the like the defenders, it was like that the, the floor just
- 49:11got raised so much higher for defenders.
- 49:12So if there was a period of time where it was like defenders
- 49:15were, there was like maybe 10 to 15 that were like really good
- 49:17that you'd never dropped and everyone else was incredibly
- 49:19expendable because it was just like, it was like, so match of
- 49:22your base because you're like, man, if this team gets reamed
- 49:24for a few goals, I'm going to be negative.
- 49:27Like I just can't afford to do it.
- 49:28Where I think now it's like a there's a little bit more like
- 49:30it feels a little safer and it makes them like like a little
- 49:33that gives them a little bit more parity with the other
- 49:34positions where before it was like defenders were like like a
- 49:37like a lesser tier. You just did not care.
- 49:40So I think it's I think it's been nothing but positive that
- 49:43change the real change. OK, next last section, we're
- 49:47going to play a little game of would you rather.
- 49:48So I just like we just go through each one and then you
- 49:51guys just tell me who would you rather who'd you rather have?
- 49:53And as far as like draft or whatever and don't think about
- 49:56necessarily where they're going to draft just OK, so first one,
- 49:59would you rather pick up Anthony Robinson or Pedro Poro?
- 50:01Robinson. Who's gone?
- 50:03Oh, there you go. Robinson poro poro chica.
- 50:08Robinson. Robinson.
- 50:11He got 10 assists this season, which is great, but Poro's got
- 50:14more goals, goals in them, and you get more points with goals.
- 50:18You know, what's funny too is Poro actually has a higher
- 50:21points per start than Robinson by, you know, not by much, 12.6
- 50:24to 12. But I think that what's
- 50:27interesting is that he played less games, obviously, like
- 50:30Robinson actually played the full retina of games.
- 50:32So that's where Robinson is more valuable because you know he's
- 50:34going to do that. And I just like you assume Pedro
- 50:36Horror is going to play a lot of games under Thomas Frank, but
- 50:38that wasn't the case under Ange. So I could I could see that.
- 50:40I think that's pretty close to me.
- 50:42Or has also done it for three years in a row, whereas Robinson
- 50:44just had the first breakout. Year Robinson had a really good
- 50:47year last year as well. I think he was, it was under two
- 50:49years ago. I mean 2324, I think it was
- 50:51pretty under. He was under appreciated for
- 50:52that. But yeah, but I think 10 assists
- 50:54from a defender is crazy. It's amazing.
- 50:56That's a crazy number. It's also crazy that he still
- 50:59discredit goal. Mm hmm.
- 51:01But I like to see that change. Well cuz he's left footed
- 51:06playing on the left side. So yeah, I think it's just
- 51:08tricky, but. Poro's right footed playing on
- 51:11the right side. Yeah, but he's American, so I'm
- 51:14trying to defend him. Got it, got it.
- 51:15Got it, got it. Got it, got it.
- 51:17Whoa, Keith, with everything that's going on here, I know.
- 51:20No, I. Don't know.
- 51:23It's just I don't know. I think that's AI think that's a
- 51:25toss up to me. I think that's like a preference
- 51:27thing. I, I think the one other thing I
- 51:29would say maybe about why Robinson is just from secure
- 51:32like a continuity standpoint, because he's like he's not
- 51:36having a change of coaches. I don't know why everyone thinks
- 51:38it's going to be really positive.
- 51:39Thomas Frank, there's plenty of coaches that have come in and we
- 51:41just don't know what that's going to be like.
- 51:43When the big question will they, will they fix the leaky defense?
- 51:46Is the question right? And then it's it's.
- 51:48Whoa, whoa, whoa. It's not a leaky defense.
- 51:50It's a fucking. Hotline, which is what we do not
- 51:52want Waterfall. It's a waterfall defense.
- 51:56It's no longer the way we play mate, you know what I mean?
- 51:59It was Pedro Poro part of the problem with that.
- 52:02Like, I think he's his argument there was he was always like he
- 52:04was very attacking into the yeah, he's.
- 52:06Not yeah, but he he can be like, you know, that's how the same
- 52:09thing with Trent when he was more of an attacking right back,
- 52:12you know. What?
- 52:13I mean, yeah, but that's Trent. That's a little.
- 52:14Different, yeah, but we're not talking about, we're not talking
- 52:17about same, well skill. We're talking about style of
- 52:20play, by the way. Hey, can we talk about that real
- 52:23quick? Let's talk about after.
- 52:25Let's talk about after. Let's get through this.
- 52:27OK, Write it down. Next one Dominic Solanke, Johann
- 52:31Wissa this. Is a hard one this.
- 52:33Is a hard one. I I so my hall, says Solanke.
- 52:36But I'm gonna go Wissa. So Wissa's amazing cuz he scored
- 52:39eighteen goals and actually underperformed his XG by almost
- 52:422, which is kind of crazy. So he had so like, so I'm saying
- 52:46is that he was in. Yeah, just all season.
- 52:50You go Wissa. Yeah.
- 52:52Yeah, I, I, my only fear is it just, again, feels like
- 52:56Brentford is going to just going to like be a real big reset
- 52:59year. Maybe he benefits from that, but
- 53:02just feels like somebody's dropping a bomb on them and
- 53:04they're just going to see what happens.
- 53:06Do you know who's the manager? No, no, not yet.
- 53:10I, I, I go slum K just for the, I think I'm going to, I'm going
- 53:14to catch the tide that's going up as opposed to the little tide
- 53:17that's lowering, you know? Well, he is he definitively your
- 53:22#110 I'm sorry, 9. Striker.
- 53:25Yeah, definitely. Yeah.
- 53:27They paid so much money for him, too.
- 53:29Tottenham can't really afford to like how to play like that and
- 53:31then not. Whoa, whoa.
- 53:32We're top four PSR bro. We talk about we're.
- 53:34Gonna I mean, I mean, in the sense of like you just you guys,
- 53:37there's no way you would sign a play like that.
- 53:38Then not plan. OK, next one.
- 53:41We're kind of talking about all these guys.
- 53:43So I'm curious what you think here.
- 53:44Dominic slow the slide. Muhammad Kudus.
- 53:46And this is we're keeping in mind the the additions to
- 53:49Liverpool. What's going on there?
- 53:52I'm off of the Sobaslay train. You're curious too.
- 53:55Wow, I'm shocked. It's I I'm done with Sobaslay.
- 53:59Be gone and. That's that's that sounds like a
- 54:03very personal thing. But.
- 54:04What, for two years in a row? It just starts off good, gives
- 54:07you false hope, and then just very inconsistent.
- 54:09So just like relationships. Just break up.
- 54:11Sounds like. Sounds like you in
- 54:12relationships. Actually.
- 54:14More like it's too close to home for you, huh?
- 54:17Oh man. But yeah, Johann Whistler, I
- 54:19think he's been consistent sort of he's if he's going to be the
- 54:23main man at Brentford, it could be great or it could be a two
- 54:26we're. Talking about we're talking
- 54:27about kudos. Oh sorry, kudos.
- 54:29I mean he could have a bounce back season from last season
- 54:33that could have the same source. I think dribble completion.
- 54:35I think he still had a. You told me he had a good amount
- 54:37still. He did, even though.
- 54:39So I think it was just his goal contributions that dropped off.
- 54:45I think it was interesting with Silver Slice, he's so even
- 54:47though like Chico, you're talking about him not like
- 54:49dropping off and having a great season, he's still finished with
- 54:5111.3 points per start. He played in 79% of the almost
- 54:5680% of the games he was like healthy and available for.
- 55:00Plays in a lot of minutes. Plays a lot of minutes I think,
- 55:02but I think the one thing too is that his those 11.3 points per
- 55:05start is pretty inflated by having a like monster games.
- 55:08Yeah, he would have like. Boom, boom boom and.
- 55:11Then like 30 points, yeah, yeah. A very big boom bust guy.
- 55:14Well, I think like Kudus, like with the Enzo, like the like
- 55:17successful dribbles and stuff like that leads to like a level
- 55:19of stability, right? Because like those are things
- 55:22that you're doing yourself that you control.
- 55:24And so like you're going to do that more often.
- 55:26It's like you're more likely to just have be more consistent
- 55:28with those. So I see the argument either
- 55:30way. I think, I think if you're
- 55:32really safe guy, you go slow the slide, right.
- 55:34But I think Kudus the Upside is there potentially last one.
- 55:37Virgil Van Dyke or Gabrielle Monglass fucking.
- 55:43It has to be, has to be Virgil, right?
- 55:45Has to be, has to be. Yeah.
- 55:47I think the only the only thing with Gabrielle would be just
- 55:50like what more more set pieces? Yeah, more goals, but they kind
- 55:53of seem like they've gotten that figured out now with them a bit
- 55:57more. I agree.
- 55:58I mean, I, I know he got hurt, but the first half he was, Yeah.
- 56:01What did he have, like 6 or eight goals?
- 56:02Keith, you had. Him, he was he was on fire.
- 56:04Well, I think you, you gave you traded to me.
- 56:06That was one of the dumb trades I gave the house away.
- 56:12Yeah, but he got it back somehow.
- 56:14Yeah, still. Still won by six games, mate, I
- 56:17think you're doing something. I think he's more more focused
- 56:21on your other league at some point.
- 56:25All right, so that's it. This has been episode 93 of
- 56:29Draft Off Sides. I'm with Tico, Enzo, and Nate.
- 56:32My name's Keith. Follow us on Draft Off Sides and
- 56:35we'll see you next week. And now we can talk about Enzo.
- 56:39I also have a question. I have two questions for you
- 56:41guys.
