- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Bella check wasn't all off when he said diminishing skills.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, he's definitely diminishing bowling skills at 62.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're guys ages.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: I actually was kind of good at bowling.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: See, but you look great.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, thank you.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's getting to see you.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_03]: It's just been great.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_03]: See, and you've been able to recover and everything.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_03]: The stock browns football a little bit here.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: Are you excited?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: We have to untogged.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's a free requisite.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_03]: What do you, are you excited for the brown season?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: Are you excited for the new regime?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think the team's going to be like this year?
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I, I should probably think through the answer.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it's altered a little bit.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Since Miles was traded, you know, that makes things, um, from, um, um, I think a player.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a wannabe psychologist as an old man.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go for a quarter of my life and stuff.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big fan of Shador, and I really don't get where, and I've kind of watched enough, and I've had my health issues, so I've been a little preoccupied, to not devouring every fact that's out there in the football world, and in the Browns World, in particular.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: But as a guy who just loves football, and for the last decade has followed his intently, as I had the first 62 years in my life, I don't see anything wrong with what should Lord does.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: I love his personality, like I get people who only get his personality, like, are you crazy?
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's one of the greatest coolers person I was happy he talks he goes out to to all these kind of events He's amazing on this off time hanging out with high schools kids and and junior high kids and the influence he makes his team mates look up to him He he has confidence and believe in himself and
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: Us quarterbacks, we are victims of beneficiaries of the guys around us and I'm not looking to say anything negative that gets me in trouble But the Browns were poor last year on offense and we were did not and then we had injuries at the end of the year and for Shador to come in and play Productively At the end of the year when The line was woeful I'm not again The receivers were non-existent
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and he made plays now.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: I wish we drafted Andrew Barry like this one.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: I was playing a lot and then in two years with the first okay now 30 some picks Okay, but now to see him play with three weapons Okay, and some signing on the offense line like I'm really looking forward to that
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: I actually, you know, and I tend to always want to be positive, but my Pinocchio knows has grown extensively longer since the teams come back in 99 because here we are in June.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't want to be negative here, you know.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: So sometimes I can not want to say it or lied, but I wanted to find the positive stuff of that.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not just, I wasn't just doing that this year because I really do believe that, which should door, and then the defense and miles I was into that.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: The trade, okay, the kid communists are good players, nobody's miles though.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and Miles Altar is the whole game, so like how now are we going to be with that?
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it's very important for Coach Bonken to really, and he gets it as an older coach with his first chance, is when sometimes you trade your best player, what is the rest of us guys, thank you.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, like are we playing for 20 another couple years from now so that's dangerous to wear What the rest of the locker room is thinking and that's where sometimes again
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: I should do her could actually galvanize you.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, during that cause you're gonna need that now.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody to galvanize and lead the team because we were...
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: They were looking up to miles.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, now that that guy is not there, somebody needs to be the guy.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think getting Jared first back in the trade does speak to like we're not just giving up on the season You know, we we're looking for the future, but we can play right now with Jared verse.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we absolutely can It's good and and he's a gifted young man.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's no doubt about that It's just What is everybody else think from a young player perspective, you know, is it?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: am I going to throw my body out there okay with no concern for the future like what you really want your guys to think really thinking oh hey they're thinking about the future should I think about the future because my angle's bothered me today so I shouldn't I take the shot in there to go out and play okay or I have the secondary tear of my ACL okay should I play today
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I always played.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's why I do surfjeeves all the time.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I have to do all this while the wellness stop, okay?
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's figurein' out, okay?
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: When I was playing and stuff, I was like, okay, God, I could play through this because technology will get better and you smart people will figure it out and you figure out that I had to figure it out myself.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_03]: This is the first time I've ever been called one of the smart people.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: So actually, now who's that's getting it?
- 6:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: I do think there's a lot to say.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: People misconstrued Shadour's personality in his confidence is like he thinks he's better or cock it You I think in order you know you have to believe in yourself Yeah, it's a high school dude like turn upon dudes running around to kill you you better have some confidence in belief like that's that's the awesome trait Yeah, they don't neuter that
- 6:49[SPEAKER_03]: If you don't believe in yourself, I would these guys believe in shit.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like, absolutely don't neuter that.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Don't surpass that belief, because that of my biggest mentor and my first coach was Howard Snallonberger.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: He was the offensive coordinator for the 72 Dolphins and Dodge Shula, won the only undefeated teams won the Super Bowl 1983 in the University of Miami, we won a national championship.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, he had a massive belief to believe as to be strong.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: And you believe in yourself.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: You could will and believe yourself to things.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: And you could make everybody else believe.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: And Shador, I believe, has that it to make you believe you're good.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: OK, I can make you believe you're smart.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: OK, I can, you know.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, and that belief, that belief is what makes you strong and successful.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: And he has it.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: He has mind over matter man mind over matter that's what you're getting at and that's what she door has Again, I'm like you.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't I don't get the negativity part.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: He is for whatever raising a polar rising guy And I don't know if it's as dad is part of that or if dad's a winner too
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's why he took over games as why he has a number of super bowls, you know what I mean?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: But talk about the guys that were like influences in your life, you go from
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: uh... the coach you just mentioned yet jimmy johnson uh... then you have marty shot and a hammer go back to jimmy uh... johnson and uh... how is all that so i i as i drive down here today and i go past a pro football hall of fame on my drive down on seventy seven and i think of how are some of her
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Jimmy Johnson, so proud to be the only guy to play with Jimmy Johnson three times.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to University of Miami, the Dallas Cowboys, and then again with the Miami Dolphins to have to have Marty Shottenheimer to have Bill Bellachek to have Bud Carson to have Don Shula.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: One of the greatest calls I ever had, I played.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I played a money night football game, I think, in 1990, and we're playing the Dolphins, and Shul is the coach on the other team, and in the first drive of the game, friggin' off her doll breaks my ankle.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Five after nine the game started nine o'clock is five after nine.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: I got a broken ankle and But I didn't know it was badly broken and then I have this phobia of Come you have a game and then finally got oh, it wasn't broken.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was just a high ankle spring
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, you can't come out for that and it won't look like up.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to see it.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's okay to do that.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I can't come out, so they're like, well, we're gonna take the tape off.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, you can't take the tape off, then it will swell up.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: So they give me the shot underneath the tape and I'm like, so I play the rest of the game on it and through two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: but got marino at the end and then the next morning I'm limping out to the hospital to get checked and darn sure calls and back then even now you're not opposing coaches aren't allowed to call them all out of the call like the other players yeah he calls me up and it's like
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: That was the greatest toughest game I ever had saw in my life.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: I was one of the coolest things for me, and I'm crying this crazy.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like the opposing coach called me.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's a great thing I ever saw.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I won't even do this podcast if my got a hang day alert.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_03]: I don't like typing if it hurts too much.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_02]: I was burning.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: When you were with, what was it?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was the dolphins.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: And you came up with the spiking thing.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: Did you look that up before was that just like a hay off the top of my head I've always wanted to do that.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, so that was 1994, I believe we ran a play.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so a very first time, so very first time that play was run was in 1986, okay, in the right year, in the Browns practice.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I...
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so slow.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm not saying it's to be funny or self-deprecating, but I'm a slow when I can't waste play.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I do I could throw the ball away, but I did not like spiking the ball because he's just giving up on a play.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: So you could throw and out.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: a quick out of 6-yard out in 1.3 seconds.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: You could spike the ball in about 0.3 seconds.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there's a delta of that 1 second.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I would say like on spike plays or on those clock plays, I would notice the defensive backs would be way off or they would be milling around.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: So if they're way off, you can get a 6-yard out, either run maybe 2 yards, take 1.3 seconds, so if it's the 40-yard line, 35-yard line, and you're trying to kick a fill goal statistically, a 20-yard fill goal is easier than a 52-yard fill goal.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: So you play that move, you play that at the end of the half or at the end of the game for a game when you feel Well then press coverage is happening and I really get excited with that because now you're standing this close to me And you think I'm gonna clock it.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, okay, and you're sleeping.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I did that in practice drove Marty and Lindy and Fonte
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: crazy like what the hell are you doing yeah I've got to try this I'm into this so we practiced it all during the 86 season the situation didn't come up now if you could picture the jet stubble over time game 1986 okay the end of the second quarter okay yeah
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: I do the clock play twice and I hit a quick out and we get a feel goal before the game before the second quarter.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: But it wasn't sexy and I do it subtle so you didn't really know and the guys were off.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now I hit Webster down the sideline for that play down to like the two yard line to go into the end of the game.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was when the first time I called the clock play.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: If you remember, I throw it to lab.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: He beat his body, he was open, I sucked on my throat.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: I under-threw it, okay?
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Do you remember his man?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, anybody would have been like that.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it was actually, we could have won it.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was at the end of the fourth quarter.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was right before that field, I had it.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I used it, and they bought it.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: I just sucked, excuse me, I sucked on my throat.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I practiced that every day everywhere I went from that point forward so 86878889.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: The situation didn't come up now.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: I give 90.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing that with doll check
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: He waxed me in 93.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I go to Dallas.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: I implement it with Dallas, but that situation doesn't come up And then I'm a free agent the next year is an eight years later I'm still running at practice because I'm obsessive Okay, so they'll get it right.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: So we do it every day.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: I implement it with the dolphins coach Shula I bless you had a lot of respect for me So he let me implement into his offense that play and then that was the first year
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: of 94 was the first year of the microphones in the first second year of it, and Coach Chula, so awesome, but he was letting me call the plays out, so he called the plays, but yet I was the one attached to Dan Moreno.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, calling in the place, okay, so but I said like, but it looked like you were calling them, but I would respect, you know, to get it right, you know, I was calling them.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: So the king came up and Aaron Glenn was a rookie.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's now the head coach of the jets.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: So like it comes up and we come back in the situations up a rookie corner back to clocks running down.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm on the microphone, Danny, it's a spike spike spike play and we've been practicing it.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, it's a little long-winded for the story, but that's awesome.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: I can, but the point of it is like some of these plays that these guys do.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Look at how long was it 12 years or whatever it was?
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'll carry it.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: I thought about it for the couple years.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I tried it in 86 and I carried it for nine years and now.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Of all the things I did, okay, and I'm super proud of coming up with some of this health and wellness and actually still just being alive.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, hey, you're coffee.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: I love your coffee, man.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's awesome.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, thanks, but that's to be able to sit here and pretend to be intelligent and stop what is it was tough to do with some of the things I've gone through, but now
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: You can pick up a high school college or pro game playbook and see not only just to everybody has the clock play and everybody has to defend the clock play.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I have my own little sections now of everybody's train book because there's evolutions off of that and to see some of the evolutions that some of us have put on to that play is super cool.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: So like you always, um,
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: I was in, um, it's looking to want to be psychologist when you least expected expected.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: How you do little things is how you do all things.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I always want to be on my game and I always want the other team to think, you know, that they better be on their toes and we're going to get them, you know?
- 16:54[SPEAKER_03]: I love talking to like professional athletes and you just like you talked about obsessive and like do the little things like you do ever it's just like that's what it takes to be it's a pinnacle.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, well thanks and it's even like and again as I'm saying it's in the spirit of a joke, but it's why I just want to be humorous, that's why I get fired every three to five years I'm right in announcing the gang's in the sky.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_03]: That's just I can just like listen to that kind of stuff and like you're just like I also think it's awesome that you can recall plays from specific games from you know 1986 and stuff like that so just super cool, but
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: I, yeah, to the point where like, even like, just speaking with stealing signals and stuff.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: And the old days, everybody did, okay?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: And like, I love Jimmy Johnson, okay?
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: I love him, and we're doing a documentary, so I'm gonna say only nice things cause he needs to be honest.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's stopped, okay?
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: But like, we're plagiarist, okay?
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: So Jimmy had such a good disciple tree.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Dave wants to, Dave Campo, but Davis, you know, Jimmy Johnson, so they're all great guys.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're all my friends and stuff.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: But again, you want to beat your friends better than you want to beat anybody.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, hey guys, he's the joke with him on still in singles.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like...
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: They would go four, three, under, cover two.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's your fault to that stolen.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you deserve that.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, come on man.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: You got a little more creative.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're the, you're the like the Dallas Cowboys with a big old blue star.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then you've got like some guy we're in a big old orange jacket.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Four, three, under.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: Cover two.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: Chief, I wonder what they're running.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_03]: Oh man, well, we don't want to tie up for the whole event so you can go out and do everything you need to do.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_03]: We really appreciate you sitting down with us.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_03]: This is one of the coolest things I've ever done.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, if you want to know more about Bernie, get his book.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: That was awesome, man.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's part of the stuff that Newer is asking you about.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: So if you want to get that, it was like a learned
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: Learning the scramble.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: I got it.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for autographing for any of those awesome I get out to the store by it.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: You will learn a lot about Bernie and the one thing you will learn He knows every play because he knew the playbook back and forwards man.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome Awesome.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: We appreciate you.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, guys.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: It means you've got to thank you Matt.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, man.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, thanks, man.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you I will say quick break guys.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
