- 1:26Speaker 1: now we turned to the Tom Conway era. Conway thanks
- 1:32Speaker 1: over as the Saint for the rest of the episode's
- 1:37Speaker 1: remaining longtime listeners of the show. We'll remember that he
- 1:41Speaker 1: followed Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, so he had a
- 1:45Speaker 1: bit of a history of taking on hard acts to follow.
- 1:50Speaker 1: He was decent his homes. We'll see how he does
- 1:52Speaker 1: as the same. Probably his biggest claim to fame was
- 1:57Speaker 1: as the Falcon. He played that role in nine films,
- 2:02Speaker 1: succeeding his brother George Sanders, who had played the role
- 2:06Speaker 1: for three films. Sanders also had played the Saint and
- 2:10Speaker 1: was probably the best of the film saints. One other
- 2:14Speaker 1: fun fact about Tom Conway. Tim Conway was actually a
- 2:20Speaker 1: named Thomas Conway. However, he changed his name to Tim
- 2:24Speaker 1: when he came to Hollywood as not to be confused
- 2:28Speaker 1: with Tom Conway, even though at that point Tom Conway's
- 2:32Speaker 1: career was kind of in the Twilight. At any rate,
- 2:36Speaker 1: Here now from May the twenty seventh of nineteen fifty
- 2:40Speaker 1: one is the children's Crusade.
- 3:07Speaker 2: The Adventures of the Saint starring Tom Conway. The Saint
- 3:22Speaker 2: based on characters created by Leslie Charteris and known to
- 3:26Speaker 2: millions from books, magazines.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And motion pictures.
- 3:29Speaker 2: The robin Hood of Modern Crime now comes transcribed to radio,
- 3:33Speaker 2: starring Hollywood's brilliant and talented actor Tom Conway as.
- 3:39Speaker 4: The Saint, running duming, mister Tatle Yes, and you, of
- 3:50Speaker 4: course are most please come in.
- 3:56Speaker 5: It was awfully nice if you'd let me come and
- 3:58Speaker 5: see you, I suppose as pretty hysterical on the phone, and.
- 4:01Speaker 6: Sit down, miss Ketrick and tell me about hi.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Mister Templar, My fiance is going to be killed, and
- 4:09Speaker 5: no one will believe me.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Why won't they believe you?
- 4:13Speaker 7: Because they are men, and men know everything, especially policemen,
- 4:17Speaker 7: And I'm just a hysterical girl who should go home
- 4:19Speaker 7: and forget all about it and let.
- 4:21Speaker 8: Him be killed.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Even though I'm a man, I might believe you.
- 4:25Speaker 2: No, you won't believe me.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Either, which will be nice of us. Mister Temper. What
- 4:31Speaker 5: do you do when the police.
- 4:32Speaker 8: Will help and you haven't got money for a private detective,
- 4:35Speaker 8: and and Bill won't even help himself.
- 4:36Speaker 6: You meet a man named Simon Templar and you tell
- 4:39Speaker 6: him about it?
- 4:41Speaker 9: Thanks?
- 4:43Speaker 6: What about Bill?
- 4:45Speaker 8: He's Bill Carrothers. He's an instructor, and I'm titu military accountant.
- 4:51Speaker 8: I'm a secretary there and a large school, No it's
- 4:56Speaker 8: rather small.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Bill and I are both employed by Major Jackson the school.
- 5:01Speaker 6: And what makes you think Bill is in danger?
- 5:04Speaker 5: Yesterday morning? I saw Ani Sana's death. He refused to
- 5:07Speaker 5: talk about it.
- 5:08Speaker 6: Let me read it, mister drink. I'm sorry.
- 5:11Speaker 5: It's just answer.
- 5:16Speaker 6: To William S. Carruthers, first Lieutenant, Infantry Reserve, subject finding
- 5:23Speaker 6: a court's martial one having been duly tried this date
- 5:28Speaker 6: drive General Court for grave and serious offenses committing in
- 5:33Speaker 6: violation of the Articles of War. Lieutenant Caruthers is hereby
- 5:37Speaker 6: Judge guilty. Two. It is the sentence of this Court
- 5:42Speaker 6: that Lieutenant to Ruthers be reminded to custody until such
- 5:45Speaker 6: time as punishment may be carried out. That punishment is death,
- 5:51Speaker 6: dated two days ago.
- 5:53Speaker 5: You see the punishment is death.
- 5:55Speaker 6: I think you're worried about nothing. My dear boys. At
- 5:58Speaker 6: military school, I have to develop a slight, big statistic
- 6:01Speaker 6: sense of humor.
- 6:01Speaker 5: I thought it was that too until last night.
- 6:05Speaker 8: Bill and I were walking on the parade ground when
- 6:07Speaker 8: there was a shot, a rifle shot.
- 6:09Speaker 5: It just grazed him and knocked his hat off. But
- 6:11Speaker 5: someone meant to kill him.
- 6:13Speaker 6: It wasn't just an accident.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Certainly it was an accident.
- 6:17Speaker 8: Somebody writes a crazy letter to Bill telling him they're
- 6:19Speaker 8: going to kill him, and then they shoot at him
- 6:21Speaker 8: with a rifle and everyone with some hysterical girls can see.
- 6:25Speaker 5: That it's just an accident.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Sorry, I had to make sure.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I guess I.
- 6:32Speaker 6: Should be thought.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Back to the school where else you.
- 6:37Speaker 6: I'll go with you? Why because I believe you want
- 6:42Speaker 6: to help you reason or not?
- 6:45Speaker 5: Thank you?
- 6:47Speaker 6: Uh, I'd feel younger to call me Simon.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Major Jackson's office is right over here side who goes there?
- 7:06Speaker 5: You know who goes there? Jimmy and put that gun down.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Advance would give the counter sign.
- 7:11Speaker 5: I've forgotten the counter sign and let us buy.
- 7:14Speaker 10: Well, all right, miss Kittridge, but you're supposed to know
- 7:17Speaker 10: the counter sign.

- 10:16Speaker 11: I don't question your motives. But Anne, I told you
- 10:19Speaker 11: expressed it to keep this thing to yourself. It's nothing.

- 10:24Speaker 11: Anne, And would you mind if I talk with Templar
- 10:28Speaker 11: alone just for a minute.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Of course, not Bill, you call me when you threw I'll.

- 10:46Speaker 11: There might be something in this Templar. In spite of
- 10:48Speaker 11: what I said to Anne, I I don't quite know
- 10:51Speaker 11: if this is it, but well, quite some time.
- 10:54Speaker 6: Ago I fell in love with the mother of one
- 10:56Speaker 6: of the cadets here.
- 10:57Speaker 11: He's the cadet captain, head of the class, Stephen Anderson.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Are you and missus Anderson? Still? No, it didn't last.
- 11:04Speaker 11: I don't want to excuse myself, but Vivian's a beautiful
- 11:07Speaker 11: woman's yes, too much money, too much leisure, to little maturity.
- 11:12Speaker 11: She came here to see Stephen. That's how it started.
- 11:15Speaker 11: It didn't last long. But you think Stephen found out, well,
- 11:19Speaker 11: he may have. And he's a peculiar kid, brilliant, neurotically
- 11:23Speaker 11: attached to his mother in spite of the fact that
- 11:25Speaker 11: she almost never finds time for him.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Father died years ago.
- 11:30Speaker 11: The kids that age fourteen think it funny ideas about
- 11:35Speaker 11: things sometimes.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Yes, I've got to have a talk with him. Would
- 11:38Speaker 6: he be capable of actually shooting at you? I don't know.
- 11:44Speaker 6: I guess I deserve it. Anyplace else they let him
- 11:48Speaker 6: may come from. Well then.
- 11:51Speaker 11: No, no, it's nothing, seriously, it's not important.
- 11:55Speaker 6: Sure, sure, all right? But can go walking on a
- 12:00Speaker 6: break ground in my corrots not until this is cleared up?
- 12:04Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, sure you'll find Stephen over in the Cadet
- 12:07Speaker 11: barracks across the road and sampler because I need to
- 12:11Speaker 11: know I.
- 12:12Speaker 12: Won't know him. Does that answer your question? I guess
- 12:16Speaker 12: that's close enough, Saint.
- 12:18Speaker 13: Thanks eddies man, that is well done.
- 12:34Speaker 6: At ease. Uh Stephen Anderson here, president, sir? Oh are
- 12:39Speaker 6: you Stephen? My name is Simon Temper, Yes, sir. Any
- 12:44Speaker 6: place here we can talk in reasonable privacy.
- 12:47Speaker 10: The company day room, sir, at the end of the
- 12:50Speaker 10: barracks could lead the way after you, sir.
- 12:59Speaker 6: In here, sir, fine, and Stephen, would you do me
- 13:03Speaker 6: a favor and leave off a few of the sirs? Yes, sir,
- 13:07Speaker 6: all right, Stephen.
- 13:09Speaker 12: I'm going to ask you a few questions that perhaps
- 13:11Speaker 12: I have no business asking, but I hope you will
- 13:14Speaker 12: answer about.
- 13:16Speaker 10: Bill Carruthers, Lieutenant car he's not in the army, that's
- 13:21Speaker 10: his title, Sir.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Do you have a grudge against me, Stephen? I will, Sir.
- 13:28Speaker 6: You didn't write him a letter recently?
- 13:31Speaker 10: I did Major Jackson send you?
- 13:35Speaker 6: No? No, you didn't.
- 13:36Speaker 10: Then I can answer any questions, sir.
- 13:38Speaker 6: I'm going to calling your mother, Stephen dog.
- 13:41Speaker 10: I think she'll like you, but you won't.
- 13:45Speaker 6: Yes, sir, Stephen, are you happy here? Yes? Sir? Is
- 13:51Speaker 6: that answer? I hope that's all Stephen? Yeah, yes, Missus Anderson.
- 14:07Speaker 14: You might call me that is all of that some
- 14:09Speaker 14: time ago, and then we'll discut it.
- 14:12Speaker 6: My name is Simon Templer, Missus.
- 14:15Speaker 14: It's too complicated, really make it Vivian and Simon Temple.
- 14:22Speaker 5: So you're the same, aren't you?
- 14:25Speaker 6: On occasion?
- 14:26Speaker 10: Now?
- 14:26Speaker 5: Interesting to eat you with the saying.
- 14:29Speaker 6: Like a Jane, No thanks, I came about Stephen.
- 14:34Speaker 5: Nothing's happened to him.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Oh no, I just wanted to know if you've seen
- 14:38Speaker 6: recent it isn't it ridiculous? Simon?
- 14:40Speaker 5: But I should have a son fourteen.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Years old, astonishing? Have you seen him recently? No?
- 14:45Speaker 5: Nobody writes regularly.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Of course, he's very good about it.
- 14:48Speaker 6: But you haven't seen him. Did you know that someone
- 14:51Speaker 6: came very close to killing Bill Carrothers last night?
- 14:54Speaker 14: Bill? Whatever for the poor boy is a horrible dance
- 14:58Speaker 14: of the killing the little extreme.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Oh, you don't think it's Stephen?
- 15:04Speaker 6: Because of Bill and I I'm trying to find out.
- 15:07Speaker 6: Has there been anything in Stephen's letters to indicate what
- 15:10Speaker 6: he's thinking?
- 15:11Speaker 14: No, no, I don't think so. Lately they've been full
- 15:14Speaker 14: of something big. It's going to happen at the school.
- 15:16Speaker 14: But he didn't say what, certainly not well we're not there.
- 15:21Speaker 6: What was going to happen? Did he give him a
- 15:24Speaker 6: date tomorrow?
- 15:26Speaker 5: I think there's nothing.
- 15:28Speaker 6: You know how children are.
- 15:29Speaker 14: They get one thing on their mind, they can't get
- 15:30Speaker 14: it out.
- 15:31Speaker 6: Some adults are the same way, just occasionally.
- 15:39Speaker 5: You don't think I'm a very nice person.
- 15:43Speaker 13: You know something?
- 15:43Speaker 6: I agree with you? All of a sudden, I agree
- 15:47Speaker 6: with you, you really do. I don't know.
- 15:51Speaker 14: It's been a hypocrite for so long. I don't even
- 15:52Speaker 14: know myself if this is a change of heart or
- 15:56Speaker 14: just a new approach. So let's not be said, simon,
- 16:01Speaker 14: excuse me?
- 16:05Speaker 5: Yes?
- 16:06Speaker 15: Who?
- 16:08Speaker 5: Yes, Simon?
- 16:11Speaker 6: You're sure?
- 16:12Speaker 16: My hearing is so good Simon in spite of my
- 16:14Speaker 16: age here, Hello, Simon, how did you know I was here?
- 16:23Speaker 5: I knew all about Bill months ago.
- 16:26Speaker 6: He's gone where I long ago?
- 16:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:31Speaker 5: He's not Roman, He's not anywhere around the school.
- 16:37Speaker 6: Keep looking in. I'll be right there.
- 16:40Speaker 5: It's not Stephen, is it, Simon?
- 16:41Speaker 6: It was missing. I hope it's not Stephen. But if
- 16:45Speaker 6: it is, baby on the.
- 16:45Speaker 13: World, Simon.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Saving's a fine boy. He took after his father. Thank
- 17:01Speaker 5: you for coming, Simon, Thank you.
- 17:02Speaker 6: An he chase a Billiard.
- 17:04Speaker 7: No, I've been falling everywhere I could think of, but
- 17:06Speaker 7: no luck. Why did he have to be so headstrong Simon?
- 17:11Speaker 7: Why did anyone else have to know anything but Bill?
- 17:13Speaker 7: Why couldn't he stay in his room?
- 17:15Speaker 6: And Ballan spoke with Hinston Stephen's letters that something big
- 17:20Speaker 6: was about to happen, something mis genious tomorrow.
- 17:23Speaker 5: I've had a feeling that something that's going to happen.
- 17:25Speaker 6: I didn't know what.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I don't know. Imagine it steals this way in prison?
- 17:30Speaker 5: Is that before a jail place? The school is like
- 17:33Speaker 5: a prison.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Anyway, goodable night. Bombers moved Major Jackson.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Have you seen Bill?
- 17:41Speaker 9: He's gone gone, well, he's got an off post passively
- 17:44Speaker 9: as so long as he's here with Revere, will you think.
- 17:47Speaker 6: Bill is in considerable things at Major? I wonder if
- 17:50Speaker 6: you would help me top of the parade round, of course,
- 17:53Speaker 6: and let us stay here past the phone coming Major
- 17:58Speaker 6: Ray or would you take a walk with more taps.
- 18:01Speaker 9: This is when I do my planning, fire planning, secret
- 18:04Speaker 9: of any campaign, tell me about it as without major.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Uh, this is the right direction of the parade ground.
- 18:11Speaker 9: Get ahead.
- 18:13Speaker 3: You got a bad marching step temple, How you get
- 18:15Speaker 3: your basic prating for.
- 18:17Speaker 6: The beaver patrol? I heard it beave of a draw
- 18:23Speaker 6: nature and if anything concerning the school or it's person. Hell,
- 18:27Speaker 6: it was happening tomorrow, you'd know about it tomorrow.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, of course foot locker respect tomorrow.
- 18:33Speaker 6: That's not what I did. There seems to be an
- 18:36Speaker 6: undercurrent of something here Major, something that's coming to a
- 18:39Speaker 6: head tomorrow.
- 18:40Speaker 9: Whatever it is tomorrow. Well, there's no reason to worry
- 18:43Speaker 9: about corollas tonight.
- 18:44Speaker 6: It don't perhaps, I hope not. Yeah, there's a parade ground.
- 18:48Speaker 6: Have my flashlight Temple means you can start from this
- 18:52Speaker 6: end and work toward the tap end of his day.
- 19:02Speaker 9: Glory, great up last sound years at night, slowly and
- 19:07Speaker 9: with all his barrackings.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Major, look over there in the beam of the night.
- 19:19Speaker 6: Rubbers come on, Yes, Coronas chomp through the head. He
- 19:33Speaker 6: was a fine soldier chamber. He died of soldiers death. Major,
- 19:37Speaker 6: he was murdered.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Don't worry to them, Aline, commanding officer.
- 19:42Speaker 6: The enemy will not escape. Well, why don't you make
- 19:56Speaker 6: of a lieutenant? I don't know.
- 19:58Speaker 12: I don't know. Say somebody killed the others last night,
- 20:02Speaker 12: but who everybody's got an alibim?
- 20:05Speaker 6: Why get mixed up with them? Nice easy husband and
- 20:08Speaker 6: wife killing sometimes? Remember I wanted to have another girl.
- 20:12Speaker 6: The two kids with yeah, might as well. They looked
- 20:15Speaker 6: scared and look like they're covering up. Who can tell
- 20:18Speaker 6: about church.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Last year? Andy Anderson kid, Jimmy diddys in there.
- 20:28Speaker 6: There's a weird atmosphere on this place, Thompson. Something beneath
- 20:32Speaker 6: the service. You can see them, the kids an almost
- 20:36Speaker 6: unbearable tension. Yeah, maybe their kids were whacked up. The start.
- 20:43Speaker 12: Sat down Anderson too, Yes, Ah, let's go all this
- 20:50Speaker 12: story with Jay. The brothers was found at eleven last night.
- 20:54Speaker 12: He was shot around ten. Where were you Anderson.
- 20:58Speaker 6: Steve Wood with me said about.
- 21:00Speaker 10: Asking you Anderson, where were you with Cadet deity, sir,
- 21:04Speaker 10: factor seeing close ordered close orders?
- 21:09Speaker 6: That was Stephen. You wrote to your mother about something
- 21:15Speaker 6: happening today, something big? What was it?
- 21:19Speaker 3: I don't remember, sir.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Jimmy, I don't remember either, Sir.
- 21:24Speaker 3: I don't know anything about it.
- 21:27Speaker 6: You two say you wouldn't you have Major Jackson's house
- 21:29Speaker 6: at tea in last night he was home? Yes, sure, yes, sir.
- 21:34Speaker 6: What do you think of Major Jackson? Stephen. He's a
- 21:38Speaker 6: great man, a very great man. It's a military genius.
- 21:42Speaker 3: And someday you'll.
- 21:45Speaker 6: He is a great man some day or what that
- 21:49Speaker 6: he said? Jimmy, yes, sir, anything you want to tell us?
- 21:54Speaker 6: This isn't just a military school prompt if they mentioned
- 21:57Speaker 6: a man's been killed. I don't know anything, says, Oh
- 22:02Speaker 6: that's all right, Germent. I fail the chads, but I'll
- 22:07Speaker 6: leave the ground.
- 22:08Speaker 5: You don't.
- 22:08Speaker 6: We'll find it. Yes, yes, well I don't write it.
- 22:15Speaker 12: Say these kids aren't right chids, They yes's and nurses
- 22:20Speaker 12: and they know something. And there's that scoly whether somebody
- 22:24Speaker 12: said it, and there's that feeling of something about to happen.
- 22:29Speaker 6: Yes, we're sitting on something, Lieutenant, something so close we
- 22:33Speaker 6: can't see it, or so strange we can't believe it.
- 22:37Speaker 12: Uh, bridest shots out of all of the dead rifles say,
- 22:41Speaker 12: I'm going down to ballistics now, will watch the results?
- 22:44Speaker 6: What's good will do us? Hey, you cant come along?
- 22:47Speaker 6: You might as well, But this case doesn't taste on
- 22:50Speaker 6: the deformaties of a bullet, thumpson, rests on the deformaties
- 22:54Speaker 6: of a human mind, and they are not so easily discovered. Yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 6: there's no TSS for that. The time saying yeah, let's
- 23:06Speaker 6: hope we have enough of it.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Simon, all come in, come in, Thank you. I'm so
- 23:23Speaker 5: glad you came, Simon.
- 23:25Speaker 6: Don't get frightened though.
- 23:27Speaker 16: I'm glad you came because I've had the city here
- 23:29Speaker 16: all day, taken a good look at myself.
- 23:31Speaker 6: It's thanks to terrifying him. You haven't seen Stephen iPhone
- 23:35Speaker 6: this morning.
- 23:36Speaker 5: But it would't let me come out. What did you
- 23:38Speaker 5: say to your son?
- 23:39Speaker 6: Yes, sir, No, sir made it a little difficult to
- 23:42Speaker 6: tell what was on his mind. Stephen has been unhappy.
- 23:46Speaker 6: I'm responsible.
- 23:48Speaker 14: Boy should have a home father. I tacked him off
- 23:51Speaker 14: to a school I didn't know anything about, because I
- 23:53Speaker 14: was too.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Busy to care for him. With what the top at all,
- 23:58Speaker 5: I couldn't.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Even keep my hospital head androg his instructor. Now there's dead,
- 24:07Speaker 6: poor Stephen for world Dan. I wanted to see those
- 24:12Speaker 6: letters from Stephen who spoke up there Maybe a through there,
- 24:15Speaker 6: I thought.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Another one that couldn't make much sense out of it?
- 24:19Speaker 6: What did it say? Oh?
- 24:20Speaker 14: A long rambling thing about how the candeted to the
- 24:23Speaker 14: Virginia Military Institute left their classes to march off the
- 24:26Speaker 14: battle in the Civil War and.
- 24:27Speaker 5: Turned the tile of battle to the south. Now where
- 24:29Speaker 5: does he get these things? Go on?
- 24:32Speaker 6: What else to say?
- 24:33Speaker 14: It was incoherent, almost all about the corruption of our society,
- 24:37Speaker 14: our enemies within, and how the country has been waiting
- 24:40Speaker 14: for a strong man to show them the way.
- 24:41Speaker 5: Who's been talking to him?
- 24:43Speaker 6: I should have known. Last rejected confused boys looking for
- 24:50Speaker 6: her father a hero, Simon tells them they follow. It
- 24:54Speaker 6: doesn't have to make sense, It just has to be
- 24:56Speaker 6: a plan. And his assurance to little work where some school,
- 25:02Speaker 6: we'll hope you'll be on time. We've come to be
- 25:03Speaker 6: on time.
- 25:13Speaker 5: Oh helloween, hello missus Anderson.
- 25:17Speaker 6: Where are the boys? And there they're all on the.
- 25:19Speaker 5: Parade grounds with full packs and equipment and rifle. There's
- 25:22Speaker 5: a special inspection.
- 25:24Speaker 6: It's very special. And would you please phone the police
- 25:27Speaker 6: the police. Yes, I'm waiting here for them, Vivian, I
- 25:30Speaker 6: need you, but it might be dangerous.
- 25:31Speaker 13: I don't care.
- 25:32Speaker 6: I don't care. Come on, differ, see you any sooner
- 25:48Speaker 6: than the airport's maison.
- 25:51Speaker 9: I'll read then, as it's all in numbers with alms.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Great telegram there you might spand it away. Interjection, Oh,
- 26:17Speaker 3: how are you get to join us?
- 26:19Speaker 6: Not quite? Major, will you dismiss our company? Is a lie.
- 26:24Speaker 6: I must have a talk with you.
- 26:25Speaker 3: No, no, no, I can't talk to you now. I
- 26:27Speaker 3: don't see. There isn't time. I've trained these boys for months.
- 26:30Speaker 3: They're magnificent because of me, you understand, because of me.
- 26:33Speaker 3: I don't think I'm mad. That's what brothers thought.
- 26:36Speaker 6: So you have to kill him.
- 26:37Speaker 3: And he tried to expose our plans to the enemy,
- 26:39Speaker 3: and I had to take measures. You don't think I've
- 26:42Speaker 3: had somebody to appear with the dream of my life.
- 26:44Speaker 6: The dream is over, Major, No, no army, you have
- 26:48Speaker 6: no troops. He's a boy Army of.
- 26:50Speaker 9: Northern Virginia's other boys like these, they lift the best
- 26:53Speaker 9: that grand could throw.
- 26:55Speaker 6: Open your eyes, maker, this isn't eighteen sixty one. This
- 26:58Speaker 6: is nineteen fifty one six.
- 27:01Speaker 3: And the times are right for a man on a
- 27:03Speaker 3: hospital positive leader came back.
- 27:05Speaker 6: This country doesn't need a man on horseback.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Pol That's what I've been doing for thirty rifles trained
- 27:17Speaker 3: on you.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Now stand us. Come out here with him, old seasons
- 27:25Speaker 6: of the men. Listen to me.
- 27:27Speaker 10: I published with him.
- 27:28Speaker 3: See this company is waiting for you. Don't listen to
- 27:31Speaker 3: anybody else.
- 27:32Speaker 16: They'll tell your.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Lies about me.
- 27:34Speaker 6: Look at him, boys, see him for what he is.
- 27:38Speaker 6: No hero, a dangerous fanatic, a man with a sick mind.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Put on your guys, all right, I've been true patient
- 27:46Speaker 3: with you. I'm ordering my troops to fire. This is
- 27:50Speaker 3: what true's vacillation.
- 28:00Speaker 6: They aren't going to fry a major. Take the boys
- 28:03Speaker 6: back to the bags.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yes, we were really good at following them. We wouldn't
- 28:11Speaker 3: have shot anybody.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Really, I don't know what got into the.
- 28:16Speaker 6: Wild. The schemes have been believed in by old and
- 28:18Speaker 6: wider people. Come a long Major, m h. That's as right,
- 28:33Speaker 6: almost later. I guess we'll never really know.
- 28:53Speaker 2: You have a listening to another transcribed adventure of the
- 28:56Speaker 2: Saint a robin Hood of modern crime, and now here
- 29:00Speaker 2: is our star Tom Canaway.
- 29:03Speaker 6: Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention to a
- 29:06Speaker 6: very important tones. I say it's important because during that minute,
- 29:11Speaker 6: someone somewhere is going to be injured in an automably accident.
- 29:16Speaker 6: Unbelievable as it.
- 29:17Speaker 12: Seems, American traffic accidents exactly closed more than one cancelty
- 29:20Speaker 12: every minute. Last year, thirty two thousand were killed, one
- 29:26Speaker 12: million were injured, and in almost every single case it
- 29:31Speaker 12: was discovered that one or more violations of the frantic
- 29:34Speaker 12: law were involved.
- 29:35Speaker 6: That's the fact. I want you to remember the fact
- 29:37Speaker 6: that the moment's carelessness, a moment's taunting of the law,
- 29:41Speaker 6: might bring trancity to you. So many of us believe
- 29:45Speaker 6: that frantic accidents always happened something else. Last years, stem
- 29:50Speaker 6: thought that way, and so did today. Tomorrow.
- 29:55Speaker 15: Perhaps there would be no disting if only would be
- 29:57Speaker 15: realized the frantic accident respect to every one of us.
- 30:02Speaker 15: So obey the laws of the road, whether you're a
- 30:06Speaker 15: driver of the DestinE, guard against the bang of the steed,
- 30:09Speaker 15: drink and chase. Remember that it can't happen to you,
- 30:17Speaker 15: but here kay may say good and that life may
- 30:21Speaker 15: be your own. This is Tom Conway invited me to
- 30:26Speaker 15: join us again.
- 30:26Speaker 6: They speak at the same time for another exciting adventure
- 30:29Speaker 6: of the same good Night.
- 30:55Speaker 3: The life script of The Saint was written by Good Power.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Our caste to Life included Michael Barrett as Ann and
- 31:01Speaker 2: Betty lou Gerson as Vivian.
- 31:03Speaker 3: The major was played by John Brod.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Herb Ellis played Bill herrvers Edmund McDonald, Lieutenant Thompson, Stephen
- 31:10Speaker 2: and Jimmy were Tommy Cook and Bobby Ellis. The Saint,
- 31:14Speaker 2: based on characters created by Leslie Talkers, is a James
- 31:18Speaker 2: al Saffire production and is directed by Helen Matt.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Tom Conway is soon to be seen in the.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Warner Brothers production of Gold Diggers in Las Vegas. All
- 31:28Speaker 2: New Saint fans will be glad to know that the
- 31:30Speaker 2: Saint comic books are on sale.
- 31:32Speaker 3: At all news.
- 31:33Speaker 6: Dads don't answer Eddie Kings and Joy.
- 32:15Speaker 3: The very best radio sure.
- 32:18Speaker 6: That's very morning, Noon and Night is from this station
- 32:27Speaker 6: Morning and Night. And this is NBC, the National Broadcasting Company.
- 32:38Speaker 13: MH.
- 32:44Speaker 1: This is Andrew J.
- 32:45Speaker 9: Graham, author of the web surface series Oh and a
- 32:48Speaker 9: Man and his Wife. You're listening to the great detectives
- 32:51Speaker 9: of old time radio.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Welcome back. Well, it's important with this new Saint not
- 33:02Speaker 1: to compare to Vincent Price and how Price would have
- 33:06Speaker 1: done it on its own merits. It was a good
- 33:09Speaker 1: performance in many ways. It reminded me of Herbert Marshall
- 33:14Speaker 1: in The Man called X. The Major was a bit
- 33:17Speaker 1: over the top. I mean, honestly, the guy who was
- 33:21Speaker 1: killed kind of was suspicious of the wrong person. Because
- 33:25Speaker 1: if I'm working at a military academy and my boss
- 33:29Speaker 1: is the major, I'm not going to be suspicious of
- 33:33Speaker 1: the kid whose mother had once dated. I'd be much
- 33:37Speaker 1: concerned with the instructor with delusions of grandeur. But at
- 33:43Speaker 1: any rate, we do turn to some listener comments and feedback.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Brian comments love the Saint with Vincent Price. It will
- 33:52Speaker 1: be sad to see this series end Saturday. To hear
- 33:54Speaker 1: the last Vincent Price show. I actually watched a few
- 33:58Speaker 1: of the TV shows it was British and didn't hold
- 34:01Speaker 1: a candle to the radio series. To me that it
- 34:06Speaker 1: depends on which series that you've seen. I like the
- 34:11Speaker 1: Roger Moore series, the black and white one. I haven't
- 34:14Speaker 1: seen the color ones yet. The Simon Dunn't series. I've
- 34:19Speaker 1: saw one and I'm not interested in seeing more. But
- 34:22Speaker 1: thanks for the comment. And definitely we miss Vincent Price,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and it was such a pleasure to be able to
- 34:29Speaker 1: hear his talents and what he was able to bring
- 34:33Speaker 1: to the program. Douglas had a comment regarding the title
- 34:38Speaker 1: Fishes Gotta Eat episode sixteen forty one. I liked the
- 34:43Speaker 1: show and the episode was okay, but the title was
- 34:46Speaker 1: a bit unfortunate. Definitely understand where you're coming there from there, Douglas,
- 34:52Speaker 1: and thanks so much for the comment. All right, well
- 34:56Speaker 1: that will do it for today. Join us back here
- 34:59Speaker 1: tomorrow for the Adventures of Ellery Queen, and we will
- 35:02Speaker 1: be back on Monday with another episode of The Saint
- 35:06Speaker 1: with Tom Conway. In the meantime, send your comments to
- 35:10Speaker 1: Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net, follow us on
- 35:14Speaker 1: Twitter at Radio Detectives, and but come one of our

- 35:22Speaker 1: This is your host, Adam Grahamson and off
