Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to The Clean Shift, your update on the
- 0:03global energy transition. A really pivotal meeting
- 0:07just took place in Dubai. Oh yeah? Yeah, it's
- 0:10mapping out a whole new collaboration between
- 0:13the UAE and Germany. Indeed, Alex. His Excellency
- 0:17Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayr, he's the CEO of Dubai's
- 0:21utility giant Diwa, he welcomed H .E. Juergen
- 0:25Barkey. Okay. He's the German minister for energy
- 0:28from Saarland. But this isn't just, you know,
- 0:31standard diplomacy. Right. It's really about
- 0:34aligning two powerhouses. You've got Dubai's
- 0:37strategic vision and Germany's engineering prowess,
- 0:40both focused on the future of clean energy. And
- 0:43Diwa's vision is backed by some just some of
- 0:46the most impressive projects on the planet. The
- 0:50CEO gave the minister an overview and he started
- 0:53with their. absolute crown jewel. And that would
- 0:56be the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
- 0:59Wow. CEO Altair, in his own words, called it
- 1:03the largest single -site solar park in the world
- 1:06based on that independent power producer or IPP
- 1:09model. Okay. And it's going to have a production
- 1:12capacity of over 8 ,000 megawatts by 2030. He
- 1:17also emphasized how the park is just pivotal
- 1:19for hitting their big goals. Yeah. That's the
- 1:23Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net
- 1:26Zero Carbon Emission Strategy 2050. The aim is
- 1:30to get 100 % of the Emirates' total power from
- 1:33clean sources by 2050. That 100 % target is the
- 1:38headline. For sure. But it's how they plan to
- 1:40use that power that's just as forward -thinking.
- 1:44They're moving into the next frontier, green
- 1:47hydrogen. Precisely. Altair also pointed to Diwa's
- 1:52green hydrogen project right there at the solar
- 1:54park. Right. It's a complete closed -loop system.
- 1:58Okay. They're using the sun to create a clean,
- 2:01storable fuel for things like transport and industry.
- 2:04It's really the foundation for a whole sustainable
- 2:07hydrogen economy. So this strategy, it's about
- 2:11way more than just infrastructure. Right. It's
- 2:14about creating a whole technological ecosystem.
- 2:18Exactly. And the CEO made that very clear. Yeah.
- 2:21He said Diwa is constantly adopting the latest
- 2:24tech and renewables, smart grids, energy storage,
- 2:28digital transformation, all to boost efficiency
- 2:31and sustainability. Makes sense. And crucially,
- 2:35he reaffirmed Diwa's commitment to strengthening
- 2:37that international cooperation and sharing knowledge
- 2:40to speed up innovation for everyone. And that
- 2:44just brings us right back to the meeting with
- 2:46Minister Barkey. Yep. Who, by the way, commended
- 2:49Dubai's ambition. I mean, this is what effective
- 2:52climate action actually looks like. It's collaboration,
- 2:56not just competition. It's a partnership model
- 2:59that is definitely worth watching. Totally. So
- 3:02here's a question for our listeners to think
- 3:04about. As these huge clean energy hubs start
- 3:07to emerge. Yeah. What is the most effective way
- 3:11for them to share their technology and their
- 3:13operational knowledge to really accelerate the
- 3:15energy transition for all nations and not just
- 3:18a select few?
