- 0:00It's five things Friday. I forgot the press record.
- 0:02I press record now. Welcome to Five Things Friday
- 0:05UK. Welcome to the podcast with The
- 0:19Second Time. The thank you.
- 0:20Bye. And that was not off to a good
- 0:22start. I was doing my whole little
- 0:23spiel. Simone, for those who don't know
- 0:25what you do, please tell us what do you do?
- 0:27Hi, I'm Simone, I'm the Co founder and CEO of Need It for
- 0:30Tonight. Also that is NIFT and we've got
- 0:33the infrastructure that powers instant delivery for retail.
- 0:36We do this in two ways. One is by a marketplace app and
- 0:40the second is a rapid delivery plugin that plugs in at
- 0:43retailers checkouts. I love it.
- 0:45It's five things. Friday 5 things my maybe 5
- 0:48better heart I quick fight. We're going to start with you
- 0:50Simone. Why don't you take us through
- 0:52what you've seen in top of mind? Okay, so yeah, so Adidas and
- 0:57ASOS have dropped their third, third, not women's wear collabs.
- 1:03And on the surface, look, it's very cool.
- 1:04Polka dots are very in, but actually there was quite just a
- 1:07few interesting things going on. So it's the first time that
- 1:11they're taking their collaboration into physical
- 1:14retail. So they're bringing these
- 1:16products into the Adidas flagship in London.
- 1:19Now, as we all know, ASOS is obviously very digital first,
- 1:23you know, they don't have stores.
- 1:24So this is them basically plugging in into Adidas's
- 1:28physical footprint. And I thought, I mean, it's very
- 1:31smart face us, but it's a really smart way of showing up offline
- 1:34without having to actually build it themselves.
- 1:36And I actually think we're seeing this more often.
- 1:39And This is why I found it interesting because we're seeing
- 1:41a lot more of brands, I want to say, borrowing each other's
- 1:44channels instead of trying to own everything.
- 1:47And I think it's a really smart way to do it.
- 1:48I mean, we, we spoke about this last week when we spoke about
- 1:51the self, it just pop up and we're seeing a really, we're
- 1:54seeing it more often. And yeah, I, I think it's very
- 1:57smart. It's the drop as well.
- 1:59So they're now actually expanding into full looks,
- 2:02accessories, more styling. So clearly it's about increasing
- 2:05the basket size and not just selling that one hero piece that
- 2:08they were doing before. But yeah, timing is quite well
- 2:11of this as well. I mean, we we did speak the
- 2:14other week about Adidas and Molly May doing this lab drop.
- 2:18So they're hitting slightly different audiences, one's
- 2:22fashion influencer Gen Z, but doing it in a quite a considered
- 2:26way. So yeah, I really liked it.
- 2:28Yeah, me too. And this is if you want the
- 2:30industry fashion, this article, if you want to read it.
- 2:34So I want to give credit and it's by Camilla ride Zek,
- 2:37hopefully. So go ahead and read it if you
- 2:39want to find out more. Moving on to me, I'm going to
- 2:42try and do this super fast because it's a bit of an opinion
- 2:44piece. And so I don't want to be, you
- 2:46know, talking too much, but it's it's it's centred on what's
- 2:49happening. Easter was great for retail.
- 2:52I'm not great, great, but he was it's anything that's good is
- 2:55great. And that's because people were
- 2:56coming at the house as the weather was good.
- 2:58They were going to shopping centres and they were engaging.
- 3:01And this all beats, it's the narrative of physical retailers
- 3:04dying because so many stores are closing and Simone and I have
- 3:08spoken so many times about what good looks like.
- 3:11And you know, the boring middle is dying.
- 3:14And so even value has to be luxury in a sense.
- 3:18You have to feel great when you go there.
- 3:19And I think this was a coin, a term coined early on called
- 3:23Experience Hub and it was coined in the twenty 20s.
- 3:27And what we're seeing now and the reason why I'm doing this
- 3:29little bit is like everyone's heard about Third Space, which
- 3:32is not home, not work, but we are actually seeing a shift
- 3:36outside of London of big brands opening in local places up and
- 3:41down the UK. And that's what I'm going to
- 3:43talk about. So I just wanted to give us some
- 3:44context. So for example, we'll start with
- 3:46London and then we'll come out Boots.
- 3:48Boots have launched a new upmarket opticians and they
- 3:53reframed it for an experience or so you can go in and, you know,
- 3:57sit there be we looked after. You can see they've got some
- 3:59drinks and stuff, which I'm not going to get into the drinks
- 4:03part, but it's on Whitmore St in London and go and have a look at
- 4:08it. I do want to put this into
- 4:10context quickly. If you were in Korea or ice
- 4:14eating feather in there were in Selfridges.
- 4:16So they have a pop up gentle monsters approach to selling you
- 4:20glasses is about making an Instagrammable emotional
- 4:24engagement art gallery. And I'm not going to get into
- 4:27this, but it's just an interesting contrast on what 2
- 4:30factions and people, you know in the comments can probably say,
- 4:33oh, but you know, they're two different brands, but they're
- 4:36both selling the same products on taking a different element.
- 4:39So going back to the fantastic news for Region Arcade at
- 4:46Chowna, because this is a big Spanish brand expanding into
- 4:50regions and I expect to see more of this as the year continues as
- 4:54we keep moving on Fat Face, obviously copying Simone in new
- 4:58personal sites. It's that they launched that on
- 5:01the 15th of March and they are doing it in Belfast, Chester,
- 5:04Derby, Ocean, Norwich and Wimble again, not London, all of the
- 5:08outer places. So this is fantastic.
- 5:11Obviously Fat Face are owned by Next Next, you know, they
- 5:14continue keep doing cool things and growing from strength to
- 5:17strength and the final one actually so in final 2, go back
- 5:21to you for these two. Yeah, So, yeah, this is just a
- 5:24quick one that Rafi, who have obviously been so many people's
- 5:29favourite makeup brand, are doing a pop up in Soho this
- 5:32weekend. They're calling it a call
- 5:34centre. Yeah, very clever.
- 5:36It's not common shop, it's come down talk with someone, but
- 5:40they're basically turning their customer service into an
- 5:42experience which I love. Where you can, I think, get a
- 5:46matcher and get man. Fit match.
- 5:49Yeah, I got it. She's very cool.
- 5:52So yeah, I think that's in Soho. I think if you just click if you
- 5:56just click on the arrow one. Saturday.
- 6:01And then just click over again and it should say the location
- 6:0359 Greek St for anybody that wants to get matched.
- 6:08Love it. Quickly moving on final Uber
- 6:14Eats. So yeah, this is an interesting
- 6:17one. It's one of those topics that's
- 6:18like, is this really that? Is this a bit of a boring one?
- 6:21But I found it really interesting.
- 6:22And it's that nectar points can now be used on Uber and Uber
- 6:25Eats, which at first sounds either boring or like a nice
- 6:29little perk. But actually this is actually
- 6:31quite a big shift because loyalty points, you know, we're
- 6:34used to them being very, I want to say closed.
- 6:37You know, you'd earn them in one place and then you'd spend them
- 6:39in that same ecosystem, whether it's a supermarket or, I don't
- 6:42know, an airline where it is. But now this is it being a bit
- 6:47more like currency. You know, you're earning points,
- 6:49but you're buying a groceries in Sainsbury's and then spending
- 6:53them on a take away or an Uber. It's a completely different
- 6:56behaviour loop, but it makes loyalty programmes way more
- 6:59interesting and relevant because they're fitting into your
- 7:02everyday life. You know, it's not just sitting
- 7:04there waiting to be redeemed on that same thing or something
- 7:07random. It's also very smart from Uber
- 7:09side as well. So yeah, they're basically
- 7:11tapping into an existing pool of value.
- 7:14You know, people already have these points, they already feel
- 7:17like they have free money, so it lowers the barrier to ordering.
- 7:21So yeah, I, I really liked it and I think we'll see a like.
- 7:25So and yeah, I think super smart as you mentioned on both parts
- 7:29and and just coincidentally, Sainsbury's is the only retailer
- 7:33that's taking margin and growth from its competitors right now.
- 7:37I saw that in the grocer. I think it was the way they were
- 7:41talking about our Sainsbury and I think it's get get people
- 7:44coming in, get them taking your product, using the points that
- 7:47they've got spent with you. Obviously next to being owned by
- 7:50Sainsbury's. I think it's a smart movement
- 7:53and and good call that they're they're expanding their reach.
- 7:55They'll get, you know, a whole bunch of things about what
- 7:58people are using their loyalty points on what habits they have
- 8:01for fast food and delivery. So smart move, OK until you got
- 8:05anything happening Exciting next week.
- 8:07God, I know. I was like, there's so much
- 8:10going on that I was like, where do I start?
- 8:13I'm at the event next week, which is a really good retailer
- 8:16event, which. I'm very excited for the
- 8:19Richmond event. Yeah, which?
- 8:22But fantastic. Yeah, I'll.
- 8:24I'm very fabulous. Interesting.
- 8:26OK, well listen, we did it underneath 10 minutes so and we
- 8:29have both. Thank you so much for the row.
- 8:32Until next week. See you later.
