- 0:28Greg your own questions by becoming a Tier three Bomb

- 0:49Speaker 2: So two questions.
- 0:51Speaker 3: A was that the most blitzen h he has done
- 0:58in the last year plus? And B was that the
- 1:02most man he's played in the year plus?
- 1:06Speaker 4: I would say I would say the answer to the
- 1:08second question is no, because he plays man more than
- 1:13people probably think. Sometimes it's the function of who you have.
- 1:16You know, we obviously had Patrick's or Tan for you know,
- 1:19you know who's a great man corner. But no, this
- 1:22is not this is not new to him in his career.
- 1:25So the answer as far as the Eagles is no,
- 1:27He's played more man. The blitzing part I don't know
- 1:31the exact answer, I like, but you know, number of blitzes,
- 1:34I can't answer that, but I would say it's probably
- 1:36in the ballpark, you know, because as soon as I
- 1:40started watching that tape and within you know, the first
- 1:43two or three possessions, I immediately noticed that this was
- 1:46a totally different approach than what he did in the
- 1:48Super Bowl. So you know, again without you know knowing,
- 1:52I mean, we have websites that give us the exact numbers.
- 1:55Sometimes they're right on, sometimes they're off by one or two,
- 1:58but you know, they blitzed a meaningful amount given the
- 2:03number of dropbacks, because don't forget Mahomes did not have
- 2:06a ton of dropbacks. It's not as if he dropped
- 2:08back forty five times.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Greg, I have two questions for you, the first one being,
- 2:13I know, on the Defensive podcast you mentioned about the
- 2:16various need following DeVante Adams and how you can't that
- 2:20with Puka because he's kind of like a chess player.
- 2:23What do you think or would it be wise for
- 2:24the Eagles to do something similar with Quinnon messed up
- 2:27with Devonte, maybe having Cooper follow Pooka with him being closer,
- 2:31you know, being comfortable playing closer to the line of
- 2:33screamage stuff like that, being able to follow him around.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Well, then it all depends on what you want to
- 2:38do from an overall coverage standpoint, because if you're going
- 2:41to match up two guys, yeah, you're essentially playing man.
- 2:46You know, it's hard to match up two guys as
- 2:48strict man to man cover guys and and you know,
- 2:52do a lot of other things in coverage. So I'm
- 2:56sure you can bet that becomes harder. So uh, you know.
- 3:00And the thing is, when a guy moves the way
- 3:03Nkula moves, Uh, it's it just becomes harder, you know,
- 3:07because then then if it's the gene, you know, then
- 3:11he has to move every time he moves, and then
- 3:14you start getting into changing strengths. You have run support issues.
- 3:18There's other issues that crop up if you're going to
- 3:21do that, because they don't forget, they don't just move
- 3:24guys in in the uh in the past game. They
- 3:27move guys in the run game. You know. They're a
- 3:30high percentage pre snap movement offense. So they it's not
- 3:35just in the past game that that Nkoula goes in
- 3:37motion or shifts, you know, it's all part of the
- 3:40run game as well. So then now you're dealing with
- 3:42a lot of other potential things that you that have
- 3:46to be put into place, and a lot of communication
- 3:49and you know, I'm not saying it can't happen, but
- 3:51it's not as easy as that.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Rick.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Do you see anything there? It feels like a lot
- 3:55of plays have been kind of gating blown up, And
- 3:56I don't know if that has more to do with
- 3:58like the tight formations that the Eagles been running. I
- 4:01know Dickerson isn't healthy, but I know Jurgensen didn't play
- 4:04too well in Week one. You know, anything that you
- 4:07see there with him, Steen and Dickerson on the inside.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think they they're opening the same
- 4:12kinds of holes at this point that we saw last year.
- 4:15I mean, right now, we're not necessarily seeing Bartley get
- 4:18clean through the first level. You know, he's he's and
- 4:21he's a big you know, he's a physical guy, so
- 4:23he still gets yards, but he's not getting when he
- 4:27gets clean through the first level. He's he's really tough
- 4:30because then he generates speed with his size. But no,
- 4:34it hasn't been quite the same. You know, it's two games.
- 4:38Don't forget Steen. I mean, he's been there, but it's
- 4:40all new once you start that. He's now the starting
- 4:43right guard playing every snap. But yeah, I would say
- 4:46that Jurgens was better this week, but probably can still
- 4:50play better. It's just not been as clean as it
- 4:52was last year up to this point.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I have a question about the offense specifically. I was
- 4:58curious if you can maybe give me his scattering report
- 5:01on DeVante Smith, because I don't I think he's amazing,
- 5:06but I just want to see what you think from
- 5:07Alex standpoint. How good is he? Not a fair question
- 5:10to ask.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I mean I really liked Avonta Smith. I
- 5:17think he's incredibly smooth. He's a terrific route runner. He's
- 5:22in some ways he's kind of a mini justin Jefferson
- 5:26in the sense that he can change direction without having
- 5:30to slow slow his stride or shorten his stride. He's
- 5:34just nowhere near as big as Jefferson, so he's different
- 5:37in that regard. He's more physical than his size would
- 5:40indicate when he goes up to get the football. So
- 5:43I think he's a very very good receiver. I don't
- 5:45think there's any issues with DeVonta Smith.
- 5:48Speaker 6: But my question is around the uh what's his name?
- 5:53The last touchdown the Chiefs made with Thornton?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Yeah it was Thornton. Yes, yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 6: So I was was watching friends breakdown of it, and
- 6:02he he for the life and he could not figure
- 6:04out what the cover was supposed to be. He had
- 6:07theories that it might have been covered three buzz, but
- 6:09he wasn't sure because of how I believe it was
- 6:12because of uh responsibility. Well, what how Mkuba and Quinon
- 6:16were lined up? I was just wondering if y'all did
- 6:19y'all cover that in the in the.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, Greg, Greg, you said that you couldn't
- 6:23figure out either and that there it looked like to
- 6:25you that there was confusion.
- 6:26Speaker 4: And well, I'll tell you what I thought, and I'm
- 6:27gonna pull off the play, but I write I wrote
- 6:29it in my notes too, but I'll tell you, well
- 6:32exactly what I think, and I could be right, I
- 6:33could be wrong, you know, So right, take it what
- 6:35it's worth because I don't know. So now they're playing
- 6:40what looks like it's a too high structure, so it
- 6:43has a quarters look to it. So what what the
- 6:47Chiefs do here is they have two receivers to the field,
- 6:49but they take Smith Schuster from the boundary and they
- 6:52motioned him across the formation. So he in a sense
- 6:56when the ball snapped becomes number one and then means
- 7:00number one. That Mitchell theoretically, that's Quinyon Mitchell there. That
- 7:04Quinnon Mitchell theoretically would be responsible for Smith Jue Schuster
- 7:09who became number one. But the nature of this three
- 7:12receiver route combination is such that I think Mitchell kind
- 7:17of is uncertain as to should he stay with Smith Schuster,
- 7:21should he stay should he run with Thornton, who was
- 7:23the original number one? I don't know. Because blankenship over
- 7:28the top, he has to react to to the to
- 7:32the over route to the inside by Hollywood Brown. So
- 7:36now Thornton is basically running the seam with no one there.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So again said today, Greg Vic said today that there
- 7:43was a He inferred that there was a breakdown and
- 7:45there was confusion in a breakdown and coverage on it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Well, there was for sure, because you're not letting a
- 7:51guy run over the top of no one there. It's
- 7:53just a matter of he's not going to sit there
- 7:55and tell you you know who made it because there's
- 7:58no reason to do that and you're not going to
- 8:00play on the bus. So I'm just telling you what
- 8:02I think happened. You know, I think Mitchell for a
- 8:05second kind of got stuck because before the motion he
- 8:09had Thornton, who is the number one, and that meant
- 8:12means he's responsible for one vertical. But then all of
- 8:14a sudden Smith Schuster became number one, and I think
- 8:17Mitchell kind of got stuck for a second. But I
- 8:20don't want to say it's his fall. I don't know
- 8:22that for a fact.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Gotcha.

- 10:56Speaker 6: Also, going back to that first play, Brand point out
- 11:00how because he was because he was kind of going
- 11:02through examples of how a lot better, and he made
- 11:08a point. I believe it was that same play on
- 11:10the first play that it was drawn up to where
- 11:13Brown was supposed to It was supposed to go to
- 11:14Brown on a deep shot or something, or a deep
- 11:18post something like that.
- 11:19Speaker 4: In vertically and he ended up being open.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, it was supposed to go to Brown, but
- 11:23because of the blitz and then that and look at
- 11:26messed that up. They ended up, you know, messing the
- 11:28whole play up and you didn't get it off. Yeah,
- 11:30I had that had that actually been cleared up, he
- 11:31would have had like the you know, the A. J.
- 11:33Brown saying, thought you were a touchdown on the first
- 11:35play of the game.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Right right, assuming Jalen throws it. I mean you should
- 11:39have that. That would have been right, right, right, right right.
- 11:43Speaker 4: We just surprised that they probably tried to get the
- 11:45ball to A. J. Brown on the first play given
- 11:47what happened the week prior.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You know, it's funny, Greg, because I was gonna make
- 11:51fun of you and Adam for the whole they're gonna
- 11:53come out throwing in the pregame show when they didn't,
- 11:55but they actually tried to, right, because we say it
- 11:58every week, they're gonna come out throw, and they're going
- 12:00to come out throw in Last Tear week.
- 12:01Speaker 4: One of these weeks they will they.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And then they'll actually connect.
- 12:05Speaker 7: I don't want to be doom in gloom, but I
- 12:07have two kinds of questions for you, it's about the offense.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I know how you always explain things.
- 12:14Speaker 7: You don't rip coaches and you don't talk bad about
- 12:18the coaches because you're not there, but you don't want
- 12:20to compare apples to apples.
- 12:22Speaker 2: But it kind of feels like the offense.
- 12:23Speaker 7: It kind of reminds me of twenty twenty three, how
- 12:26kind of slow the passing game is and how slow
- 12:28the offense is. Can you just kind of talk about
- 12:30what you're seeing from a conceptual standpoint in terms of
- 12:33like maybe the route concepts and what you're seeing in
- 12:36terms of the passing game, because it just it's just.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Kind of kind of worried.
- 12:40Speaker 7: Worries someome right now with how how kind of slow
- 12:42the passing game is.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I'll give you my interpretation, Eric, Okay. You know, like
- 12:46I said, I'm not there, so I'll just give you
- 12:48my interpretation solely from watching Tate. That's all I can do.
- 12:53So what I think that right now that my interpretation
- 12:58is that Kevin Petulo is kind of looking through it
- 13:00that you know, this is all new for him too.
- 13:03Don't forget because Jalen Hurts did not play in the
- 13:06preseason and even if he did, he would have played,
- 13:08you know, ten snaps. So now you have to work
- 13:10through an entire game, which is totally different than being
- 13:14in training camp or in the offseason when you're talking
- 13:17about it. And I think that he's trying to figure out,
- 13:20you know, exactly how to call the game and what
- 13:23concepts work against a particular opponent, and you know what
- 13:27concepts you really want to stick to. There's been a
- 13:29lot of repetition of things which I don't recall seeing
- 13:33a ton of in the past, which in and of itself,
- 13:36that's not terrible. There are a lot of coaches that
- 13:38repeat plays and they work great, so that in and
- 13:41of itself is not terrible. So I think there's that.
- 13:45I also think that Jalen, and this is again my
- 13:48interpretation watching the tape. You know, only he could tell you,
- 13:52but he's not going to obviously, I think right now
- 13:54it looks to me like his eyes at times. There
- 13:57are three or four plays where I thought his eyes
- 14:00based on the coverage when he took the snap of
- 14:02the ball that were not in the right place, that
- 14:05he wasn't looking where he should have given the route
- 14:08concept versus what the coverage showed so normally when things
- 14:12aren't going well, Eric, it's not just one thing. It's
- 14:15a combination of things. Fans always wanted to be one thing, thinking, oh, okay,
- 14:20you know, if Kevin Patullo just calls the game better,
- 14:22we're great. You know, if Jalen just sees it better,
- 14:25we're good to go. You know, it's very rarely one thing.
- 14:29And you know, one thing I mentioned to the guys,
- 14:32and I don't know if you listen, I think I
- 14:34mentioned it to the guys. I have so many conversations,
- 14:36you know, I have them in my matchup room here
- 14:38to it that film. So you know, it's all day
- 14:41long just talking ball and watching tape. So I forget
- 14:43who I'm telling stuff too. But there's a what a
- 14:46lot of people don't think about is Jalen has a
- 14:49new guy talking in his ear now for the play calls.
- 14:52And that's a big deal. It's a whole different voice.
- 14:55It's a whole different cadence. It's a whole different way
- 14:57of presenting the plays. You know, now you have to
- 15:00get the cadence of Kevin Petullo. Feel comfortable with how
- 15:03he talks.
- 15:03Speaker 1: All right, thank you, guys, have a good one.
- 15:06Speaker 4: I appreciate it. Guys, thanks here, Greg, thank you all right. Yeah,
- 15:09I appreciate that. Thanks ye
