- 0:11Speaker 2: The world's a bigeonks.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:21Speaker 3: People might have noticed last week Evant a little of
- 0:23Speaker 3: an edge to him.
- 0:24Speaker 4: And I think Wes Welker was kind of a dick.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Someone give me an example of a coach who openly
- 0:28Speaker 3: did something that wasn't in the best.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Of but that another example or an example.
- 0:33Speaker 5: Robin says, worst show ever. It's Draft season. Josh An
- 0:35Speaker 5: Haffel says, this is one of the best shows I've.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Heard, those emails, the dueling emails. I can't think of
- 0:40Speaker 3: anything I'd rather listen to less than some of Gonzales
- 0:43Speaker 3: first round or did they go flow?
- 0:45Speaker 4: We don't worry because Catch twenty two will be all
- 0:48Speaker 4: all draft.
- 0:48Speaker 3: You know, Lincoln Riley, I don't know off my head, Wow,
- 0:51Speaker 3: how pro ready that offense is?
- 0:53Speaker 6: What's the mat with you?
- 0:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 0:56Speaker 6: I didn't have some research done for good sense.
- 1:00Speaker 3: You guys have done watched every one of these guys
- 1:03Speaker 3: fart over the last three years.
- 1:05Speaker 6: You can't tell me what kind of offense this is.
- 1:07Speaker 5: Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Dunkin. Hello, and welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:15Speaker 5: It is Tuesday here at Jillette Stadium and we're a
- 1:21Speaker 5: little over a week away from the NFL Draft. Exciting times.
- 1:27Speaker 5: The gang will be here momentarily. They're just finishing up
- 1:30Speaker 5: with Matt GROW's pre draft press conference. We were streaming
- 1:36Speaker 5: that live on Patriots dot com. You might perhaps have
- 1:39Speaker 5: been watching that. And there was also coaches availability today,
- 1:43Speaker 5: so all the coaches were out there and we'll get
- 1:47Speaker 5: some insight from the guys and Tamara about what who
- 1:52Speaker 5: said what, and our first time officially talking to Bill O'Brien,
- 1:58Speaker 5: so that was that'll be interesting. And as I say that,
- 2:01Speaker 5: Deuce walks into the room. What's up, Deuce?
- 2:04Speaker 6: Hello, I came running.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I was like, oh, oh, Fred, I know you were
- 2:07Speaker 3: here flying solo, so I know, I know you're pro.
- 2:10Speaker 5: I know you proudly wearing your Patriot League champions, you.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Know, quarter pull up, quarter zip whatever it is, shout
- 2:16Speaker 3: out Holy Cross.
- 2:17Speaker 6: Thank you for the free swag.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Appreciate it. But uh yeah, it was fun. We got
- 2:20Speaker 3: to talk to the coaches. A little bit her from
- 2:22Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien. Jirob Mayo finally got to meet Adrian Clem,
- 2:26Speaker 3: who talked with him a little bit. So, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 3: i'd just say the first big part was everybody just
- 2:32Speaker 3: kind of excited to get the players back yesterday, and yeah,
- 2:35Speaker 3: you know, start to feel like like things are our progressive.
- 2:37Speaker 5: So from your perspective, highlights from the coaches.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Today, Yeah, I was.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I was in a little bit of a unique position
- 2:43Speaker 3: because I was with our cameraman kind of doing some
- 2:46Speaker 3: of the side podiums.
- 2:47Speaker 7: Well.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Evan and some of the other guys were you know,
- 2:50Speaker 3: circled around Jimeo and Bill O'Brien, who took you know,
- 2:53Speaker 3: the great majority of the interest from everybody.
- 2:55Speaker 6: So it was kind of nice for me because we
- 2:56Speaker 6: got a little.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Bit more one on one time with some of the
- 2:58Speaker 3: lesser coaches, but just catching up on Bill O'Brien. Not
- 3:02Speaker 3: a ton of specifics being told, you know, we're starting.
- 3:04Speaker 6: At the ground level.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Everybody's got to come in probably what you would expect,
- 3:09Speaker 3: but I would just say for me to look up
- 3:11Speaker 3: there and see Bill O'Brien and say, all right, the
- 3:13Speaker 3: offense is in good hands. Yeah, he's just kind of
- 3:15Speaker 3: that that like kind of gave you a little feeling
- 3:17Speaker 3: of confidence talking to Adrian Clem.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Serious guy, seems.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Excited to be back, just excited that these guys are
- 3:24Speaker 3: here and that they're going to be a big part
- 3:25Speaker 3: in And what's.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Kind So Gerrod Mayo, who was he speaking on behalf
- 3:29Speaker 5: of Like was he speaking on behalf of the defense
- 3:32Speaker 5: or as assistant head coach?
- 3:35Speaker 8: Like?
- 3:35Speaker 5: What was his capacity down there?
- 3:37Speaker 3: Well, technically he was speaking as part of the defense.
- 3:39Speaker 3: He was part of the first defensive group. But he
- 3:41Speaker 3: did get you know, kind of I don't want to
- 3:44Speaker 3: say special treatment, but was at the raised kind of area.
- 3:48Speaker 3: And you know, I mean I would I would say
- 3:50Speaker 3: that would usually probably be what you would expect from
- 3:53Speaker 3: the defensive coordinator.
- 3:54Speaker 6: I mean, it was the same Bill O'Brien came in
- 3:56Speaker 6: and took his spot.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So not to say that he is the defensive coordinator,
- 3:59Speaker 3: but he certainly seemed to have a little bit more
- 4:02Speaker 3: of a leadership presence as far as these Usually he'd
- 4:05Speaker 3: be just like, you know, next to Steve and the
- 4:06Speaker 3: two of them would just be in groups with everybody else.
- 4:09Speaker 3: But he definitely had a little bit of a spotlight.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I'm a little surprised at that.
- 4:13Speaker 5: I thought that maybe girod wouldn't be talking, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 5: as assistant head coach, and then maybe Steve Belichick would
- 4:20Speaker 5: you know, be talking at behalf of the entire defense.
- 4:24Speaker 5: But I we'll see, Yeah, no it does.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I mean it does seem like he Steve was down there.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Steve was down there, but but again he was you know,
- 4:32Speaker 3: they had side offices where they were doing the meetings.
- 4:34Speaker 3: This is a temporary press area that we've got set up.
- 4:37Speaker 3: So this is the first time we saw that area.
- 4:40Speaker 3: So we were in some of the off private rooms.
- 4:42Speaker 3: But girob was up there on the podium, which then
- 4:44Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien replaced him, and then they brought up a
- 4:47Speaker 3: podium and that's where Macro was just finishing up when
- 4:49Speaker 3: I when I ran out to get down here, right,
- 4:52Speaker 3: huh okay, yeah, yeah, that will long the tight ends coach. Briefly,
- 4:57Speaker 3: Alex and Tamara had already grilled him, I guess, so
- 5:00Speaker 3: he seemed like he was really sweating from their questions.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Now now he was seemed really nice, really nice kid.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Talked to Vinison Serry a little bit, you know, like
- 5:07Speaker 3: I said, it's it's fun sometimes when everybody is just swamping.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien and would be me and Chris were just
- 5:12Speaker 3: kind of talking to Vinnie, asked him some questions for
- 5:14Speaker 3: camera and then just you know, how was your off
- 5:16Speaker 3: season would you get to do and you know, said
- 5:18Speaker 3: that they that they had gotten the week of the
- 5:19Speaker 3: owner's meetings off, so you got to get away a
- 5:21Speaker 3: little bit. So but everybody seems excited to you know,
- 5:24Speaker 3: be back in the building, get the players back in.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Asked a few of the coaches just what was it
- 5:28Speaker 3: like working on at the Shrine Bowl with some of
- 5:30Speaker 3: those young kids, and you know, they all said it
- 5:31Speaker 3: was a real good opportunity for them as coaches to
- 5:34Speaker 3: get these kids who are you excited but don't really
- 5:37Speaker 3: know what they're doing yet, and you know they're kind
- 5:39Speaker 3: of blank canvas is to work with.
- 5:42Speaker 5: So you met you mentioned of course Bill O'Brien's back, uh,
- 5:48Speaker 5: you know, and there was a feeling from you that
- 5:50Speaker 5: you know, just just looking at him. I mean, he's
- 5:52Speaker 5: got a presence and grown up in the room. What
- 5:55Speaker 5: was his you know, how was he his demeanor?
- 5:58Speaker 3: I mean, I I you know, I wish Paul was
- 6:01Speaker 3: here to provide because he's been here with this is
- 6:04Speaker 3: the first time I've really been around Bill O'Brien, but
- 6:07Speaker 3: you know, I've gotten so used to seeing him as
- 6:09Speaker 3: the head coach of the Texans now, you know, he
- 6:12Speaker 3: just has that kind of head coach presence about him.
- 6:14Speaker 3: So that was he didn't really say anything that that's
- 6:17Speaker 3: gonna get anybody excited or you know, which is how
- 6:20Speaker 3: we've been reviewing things and we're not going to tell
- 6:21Speaker 3: you what we're doing, but we're gonna start, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 3: all the cliches that you would expect. But it was just,
- 6:26Speaker 3: you know, that presence of this is a really experienced
- 6:28Speaker 3: offensive football coach who you know, I'm I'm interested. I
- 6:32Speaker 3: mean I said this yesterday just or sorry, two days
- 6:36Speaker 3: ago with the draft preview party.
- 6:37Speaker 6: We're just you know, what is Bill O'Brien?
- 6:39Speaker 3: What is this version of Bill O'Brien, Like, we know
- 6:41Speaker 3: what he was when he was here, and he was
- 6:43Speaker 3: here for a while and worked his way up and
- 6:44Speaker 3: then we see the two tight end offense that kind
- 6:47Speaker 3: of happened in twenty ten and twenty eleven, and he
- 6:50Speaker 3: went to Penn State, he went to Houston. He worked
- 6:52Speaker 3: with you know, Deshaun Watson, a mobile quarterback. He's worked
- 6:54Speaker 3: with you know, a couple of Alabama quarterbacks. Now, so
- 6:56Speaker 3: what's what's he going to bring? You know, what's different,
- 6:59Speaker 3: what kind of twist is going to bring? And you know,
- 7:01Speaker 3: connecting it back to last year when we got out
- 7:03Speaker 3: there on OTAs, I, you know, my inexperience was he
- 7:06Speaker 3: can't really learn anything from out here, but I think
- 7:09Speaker 3: you can and I think there's gonna be some interesting
- 7:11Speaker 3: glimpses of, you know, just kind of how they're starting
- 7:13Speaker 3: to stack the bricks.
- 7:14Speaker 5: You mentioned the draft preview party that you were part
- 7:17Speaker 5: of the panel over the weekend. How did that go
- 7:20Speaker 5: and who did you share the panel with.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I was hosted by one and only might you already
- 7:24Speaker 3: who did an outstanding job and the field yates from ESPN,
- 7:28Speaker 3: Mike Greece, Karen Grigian. So, I mean it's a panel
- 7:30Speaker 3: of legends and then port us So I'm kind of like,
- 7:34Speaker 3: but but of course that is just a panel of
- 7:37Speaker 3: professionals who are outstanding at what they do.
- 7:40Speaker 6: We got to talk to Marcus Jones.
- 7:42Speaker 3: He came up and you know, talked a little bit
- 7:43Speaker 3: about his season and you know, like all rookies, having
- 7:46Speaker 3: here in his second year, being a little bit more
- 7:48Speaker 3: assimilated into what they're doing. And and Logan Mankins came
- 7:51Speaker 3: up so and I've never really got to meet him,
- 7:54Speaker 3: but man, what just his hand is like just engulfed
- 7:57Speaker 3: my hand. He's just such a giant guy. But but
- 8:00Speaker 3: he was a lot of fun. Congratulating him on his
- 8:03Speaker 3: nomination for the Hall of Fame. I asked him a
- 8:04Speaker 3: little bit about, you know, what was it like going
- 8:06Speaker 3: up against Rabel, and you know, he expressed a lot
- 8:09Speaker 3: of respect for Rabel, and you know, I still roof
- 8:11Speaker 3: of the Titans.
- 8:11Speaker 5: I love that. In terms of the panelists, you know,
- 8:14Speaker 5: in the past, you know, Teddy Bruski was on the
- 8:16Speaker 5: panel and he famously came out strongly for Rob Gronkowski
- 8:20Speaker 5: that year. Oh yeah, you know, being from Arizona and
- 8:22Speaker 5: all that stuff, where you know, Karen Field, any of
- 8:28Speaker 5: the up there like strongly advocate for any particular player. No.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I mean it was funny, Fred, because honestly, my opinion
- 8:35Speaker 3: was like I felt like we spent more time talking
- 8:37Speaker 3: about the team as currently constituted, and then Field Yates
- 8:42Speaker 3: kind of ran through some prospects and Reese was very
- 8:45Speaker 3: much like, I don't really know anybody.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Yet, and and why are you up here now?
- 8:49Speaker 3: And and you know, Karen talked a little bit about
- 8:51Speaker 3: some of the Alabama guys. So it was just funny
- 8:54Speaker 3: because I was, you know, I I think I can
- 8:56Speaker 3: do an okay job of you know, working some of
- 8:58Speaker 3: the general guys in. But I was imagining Evan in
- 9:00Speaker 3: that situation, who probably would have been like a caged
- 9:03Speaker 3: bull where they're like, you can't say anything.
- 9:05Speaker 6: About any of the draft guys. But you know we did.
- 9:08Speaker 3: We did get a chance to talk about the big
- 9:10Speaker 3: positions cornerback, wide receiver, and offensive tackle, and I think
- 9:13Speaker 3: everybody you know sees a lot of it. Similarly of
- 9:16Speaker 3: you've got a mix of the tackle guys, you've got
- 9:18Speaker 3: some real promise with the cornerbacks. If the right guy fell,
- 9:21Speaker 3: still some opportunities later and is one of those wide
- 9:24Speaker 3: receivers worth it. I thought it was interesting in the
- 9:26Speaker 3: Grow press conference that Alan Siegel like specifically just Zay Flowers.
- 9:30Speaker 3: There's been such a ground swell about him, and you know,
- 9:33Speaker 3: he didn't say anything, but he said more than I
- 9:35Speaker 3: thought he would, which was kind of describing Zay uh
- 9:37Speaker 3: just as as such an explosive player.
- 9:39Speaker 5: He just said, you know, he's just a good receiver.
- 9:41Speaker 5: He didn't want to label him, you know, inside outside
- 9:44Speaker 5: slot whatever.
- 9:46Speaker 3: But you can feel everybody's just kind of got that
- 9:48Speaker 3: like that that hot and bothered about Zay.
- 9:50Speaker 5: But you know, I'll tell you just sticking to the receivers,
- 9:54Speaker 5: I did, you know, start doing my own research, you know,
- 9:59Speaker 5: and I can see why the experts are saying there's
- 10:04Speaker 5: a lot of good receivers but not a lot of
- 10:06Speaker 5: first round talent. Yeah, you know, I can see that.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Yeah it's true. I mean I don't I don't think
- 10:11Speaker 3: any of those guys really in a in an average
- 10:14Speaker 3: year would go beyond earlier than twenty probably. I mean,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I'm sure people can talk themselves into you know, Jackson Smith,
- 10:20Speaker 3: Ninjigba and and Za Flowers and you know, maybe Quentin Johnson,
- 10:24Speaker 3: but there's just isn't that like a lave Garrett Wilson,
- 10:27Speaker 3: you know, I mean, all those guys ended up being
- 10:29Speaker 3: really really good players. And I think even the good
- 10:32Speaker 3: players in this year might be limited a little bit
- 10:35Speaker 3: and what they can and what they can do, or
- 10:37Speaker 3: at least in the questions coming out. But you can
- 10:39Speaker 3: see why everybody loves a Flowers. It's you know, obvious
- 10:42Speaker 3: what he could possibly bring to this offense.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he he seems to be pretty dynamic.
- 10:47Speaker 5: But again, like you know, he's small, he's small, Yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 5: and he's slight, and you know, I do think though
- 10:55Speaker 5: that he's quicker than Thornton. You know, Thornton is is
- 10:59Speaker 5: slight too, but he's taller. Yeah, but I think that
- 11:02Speaker 5: you know, Jay Flowers in small spaces, is you know,
- 11:05Speaker 5: quicker than Thornton. Yeah, but you know, like how is
- 11:09Speaker 5: he going to do when press coverage? You know, how
- 11:12Speaker 5: is he going to separate at the line and all
- 11:13Speaker 5: that that's still to be determined.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I think that's questions with with all these guys, whether
- 11:18Speaker 3: you're talking about those two guys or you know, Josh
- 11:20Speaker 3: Down's a guy that I've I've mentioned. You know, there's
- 11:24Speaker 3: there's just a number, but they're all all maybe small,
- 11:27Speaker 3: all maybe not quite as fast as you would like.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I think Jay Flowers has the most potential to be
- 11:32Speaker 3: the total package, but everybody else there there's always going
- 11:35Speaker 3: to be an issue with some of these prospects. And yeah,
- 11:38Speaker 3: you know, I think it's it's just you can read
- 11:41Speaker 3: between the lines with the questions, they're actually growing. Ben
- 11:43Speaker 3: Volin was just like, look, do you feel like you've
- 11:45Speaker 3: done enough around mac right now? And you know they
- 11:47Speaker 3: the company line, and well, we're continuing to build. We're
- 11:49Speaker 3: continuing to do these things, of course, and who knows,
- 11:53Speaker 3: there might there might still be some movement. But at
- 11:56Speaker 3: the same time, it's it's just a little bit like, man,
- 11:59Speaker 3: I wish that there was like, you know, those four
- 12:00Speaker 3: or five elite receivers, like there have been the last
- 12:02Speaker 3: couple of classes where we could be salivating over multiple
- 12:05Speaker 3: guys who could potentially fall, rather than like could we
- 12:08Speaker 3: maybe get Zay there? Do we maybe trade down to
- 12:10Speaker 3: twenty and try to get them there? You know, it's
- 12:12Speaker 3: just it's a little bit complicated. But I'm kind of
- 12:14Speaker 3: with Evan where it's like, if you really need the guy,
- 12:16Speaker 3: just go get them.
- 12:17Speaker 5: All right. So I want to talk a little bit
- 12:19Speaker 5: about some NFL news, you know that's happened over the
- 12:22Speaker 5: last few days. But before we do that, you also
- 12:24Speaker 5: mentioned new location for the media workroom. They're doing construction
- 12:29Speaker 5: here people. You might have seen pictures online already. You know,
- 12:34Speaker 5: Patriots are completely redoing the north end of the stadium
- 12:38Speaker 5: with the largest video board outdoor video board in the
- 12:43Speaker 5: NFL new club, you know, and new and where the
- 12:47Speaker 5: media workroom is that's part of this construction, so they
- 12:50Speaker 5: had to relocate you guys, it looked smaller. Yeah, it was.
- 12:55Speaker 6: I mean it's a set up.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I mean it was a weird day because there were
- 12:58Speaker 3: so many interviews going on at once, so you had
- 13:00Speaker 3: to spread out a little bit and sometimes they would
- 13:01Speaker 3: do that and just in the hallway out here, which
- 13:03Speaker 3: was seemed like it made the most sense. But but
- 13:06Speaker 3: it looks like it's it'll it'll work fine for you know,
- 13:08Speaker 3: for a space for a year and then I guess
- 13:10Speaker 3: we'll see where we're at. I mean, I think the
- 13:11Speaker 3: media probably likes it. There's more room to probably stretch
- 13:14Speaker 3: out in those little back private rooms than there was before. Okay,
- 13:17Speaker 3: maybe a little bit. And then they had I got
- 13:19Speaker 3: a banana, They had a little food spread out for
- 13:21Speaker 3: us and everything. So yeah, it's uh maybe not maybe
- 13:25Speaker 3: not quite as direct route down there into it but
- 13:28Speaker 3: that we had before.
- 13:28Speaker 5: But Tamara's just came in, she's getting settled. I'm going
- 13:32Speaker 5: to ask her her perspective on what the coaches had
- 13:35Speaker 5: to say. Hello Tamara, Hi, So you just came from
- 13:41Speaker 5: the access what were your highlights.
- 13:45Speaker 9: I feel like I'm still processing Matt grow Yeah, Like,
- 13:49Speaker 9: did you say for the whole thing?
- 13:50Speaker 3: Dude? I popped out just a little bit early.
- 13:53Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm just I'm intrigued. One why, I thought, I
- 14:00Speaker 9: don't know if you heard the question about since we're
- 14:02Speaker 9: running most of the players back on defense and we
- 14:04Speaker 9: only swapped on a few players on offense that were
- 14:06Speaker 9: kind of what most people thought is equivalent to each other,
- 14:10Speaker 9: if he thought that personnel wasn't the issue last year,
- 14:14Speaker 9: And so I was like, hmm, that's actually you know
- 14:17Speaker 9: something we've talked about on here, Like you know, is
- 14:19Speaker 9: Jacoby and Juju the same player? Like? Are the swaps
- 14:22Speaker 9: the same? And we're running back the defense. So was
- 14:24Speaker 9: the coaching the issue and not the personnel? And He's
- 14:25Speaker 9: like no, he was like, we were an eight and
- 14:28Speaker 9: nine team last year. We have to get better. So
- 14:30Speaker 9: everything that we're doing, we're trying to get better. And
- 14:33Speaker 9: you know that does start with the draft, with which
- 14:35Speaker 9: Robert Kraft said over the summer at the owner's meetings,
- 14:39Speaker 9: And so I thought it was very interesting that he
- 14:42Speaker 9: doesn't agree with the notion that, you know, we're not
- 14:44Speaker 9: running it back. We are trying to make changes. We
- 14:46Speaker 9: are trying to get faster and stronger, and that starts
- 14:48Speaker 9: with the draft, And so I thought that was intriguing.
- 14:51Speaker 9: And then I also thought someone asked about Cole Strange.
- 14:54Speaker 9: Did you hear about that?
- 14:55Speaker 5: No?
- 14:55Speaker 3: I like that one.
- 14:57Speaker 9: Someone asked about Cold Strange and Taekwon Thornton and if
- 15:02Speaker 9: you know, there was pressure essentially for this year's draft
- 15:04Speaker 9: to make better picks. Ursus like what what He's trying
- 15:08Speaker 9: to figure out the wording for. He was like, I'm
- 15:10Speaker 9: trying to figure out what the word is to describe
- 15:12Speaker 9: those two, but random is what to say?
- 15:14Speaker 3: Random?
- 15:14Speaker 9: Like, is there pressure, you know, to make a better
- 15:17Speaker 9: pick in the first and second round? And he's like, yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 9: there's always pressure. If you're gonna pick somebody in the
- 15:21Speaker 9: first round, you have to be really confident about them
- 15:23Speaker 9: because that's a four to five year investment. So he
- 15:25Speaker 9: was like, you know, when we're making those picks, we are,
- 15:28Speaker 9: you know, doing what's best for our team, which you
- 15:30Speaker 9: know is the standard deal answer. But I'm I'm intrigued.
- 15:34Speaker 9: I'm still processing everything that was said, but I do
- 15:36Speaker 9: feel like this draft is going to be really different.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Then, you know, Matt said that, you know, he equipped
- 15:45Speaker 5: after one question that you know, this is only really
- 15:47Speaker 5: my second year doing this, you know. Yeah, kind of
- 15:50Speaker 5: laughed about it, but I thought he was he's been
- 15:52Speaker 5: involved longer than that in the draft room.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I think so. I mean, he's been
- 15:56Speaker 3: around for a while. But yeah, I make it a
- 15:59Speaker 3: little bit of a.
- 15:59Speaker 5: When he said doing this like I'd like to know
- 16:02Speaker 5: what exactly this.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Is kind of running the show? Yeah, having the.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Yeah, because like last year's draft, in my opinion, probably
- 16:12Speaker 5: wasn't as good as the year before. You know, when
- 16:15Speaker 5: you had Mac and you had bar More and you know,
- 16:21Speaker 5: but then you know, this last year's could turn out
- 16:23Speaker 5: to be better. If if Thornton and you know, the
- 16:25Speaker 5: Jones guys, you know, it could turn out to be okay.
- 16:30Speaker 5: But I thought that the year before was a more
- 16:33Speaker 5: solid draft in sure, And so who was running that
- 16:38Speaker 5: draft as opposed to last year's draft?
- 16:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it felt weird. It felt like, hey,
- 16:42Speaker 3: twenty twenty one, this is what we've been waiting for.
- 16:44Speaker 3: You tack the Alabama player, you trade up for another
- 16:47Speaker 3: Alabama player, you get, you know, some familiar programs, guys
- 16:50Speaker 3: from Oklahoma.
- 16:52Speaker 5: I do.
- 16:52Speaker 6: I mean, I think it's an interesting point.
- 16:54Speaker 3: And I you know, I bring back to the draft
- 16:55Speaker 3: party when we were kind of talking about this class,
- 16:57Speaker 3: and you know, I find myself feeling like, I think
- 17:00Speaker 3: the jury's largely still out, you know, of how much
- 17:03Speaker 3: of an impact this class can have. I mean, there's
- 17:05Speaker 3: certainly some intrigue with you know, Thornton's speed and you know,
- 17:08Speaker 3: getting a full camp and you know, I'm sure he's
- 17:10Speaker 3: probably added some weight. But you know, Jack Jones, is
- 17:14Speaker 3: he going to be a start?
- 17:14Speaker 5: I think I think, well, but I think he's a
- 17:16Speaker 5: solid player. Solid, but I think Marcus Jones could be
- 17:20Speaker 5: He's the you know, the diamond, the ones. You know,
- 17:22Speaker 5: if those two guys you know, play well, then it's
- 17:26Speaker 5: a good draft all of a sudden, you know.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And if you know, and if Cold Strange, it's will
- 17:30Speaker 3: you notice it? Will you notice it?
- 17:33Speaker 5: Is going to be fine?
- 17:33Speaker 6: He's going to be fine.
- 17:34Speaker 3: But you know, it's like, I mean, fine, well, yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 3: And that's that's what I found myself thinking with with
- 17:40Speaker 3: grow talking today about how much pressure is on you
- 17:43Speaker 3: for those first round picks, and it was hard not
- 17:45Speaker 3: to immediately think of Cold Strange and think you know,
- 17:48Speaker 3: what kind of performance do you need to get out
- 17:49Speaker 3: of him for him to be up to that draft
- 17:52Speaker 3: that it's like it's like.
- 17:54Speaker 5: He's your starting guard for ten years? Is that okay?
- 17:57Speaker 5: I don't you know, he's not all pro, but he's
- 17:59Speaker 5: just starting guard. He's a fixture at left guard for
- 18:03Speaker 5: ten years. Is that okay?
- 18:04Speaker 3: I say maybe not, just because if in the first round,
- 18:06Speaker 3: I just I'd like to have at least a Logan
- 18:09Speaker 3: Mankin's type presence like it just and I and I
- 18:12Speaker 3: love what Cole Strang like. I love his attitude, his
- 18:14Speaker 3: he's such a pain in the ass to play. I
- 18:16Speaker 3: always love that in guards, and I think he's one
- 18:18Speaker 3: of those kind of extra business guys after the whistle
- 18:21Speaker 3: and then you know, the whistle blows and he just stops.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Like I just I love that style of him. But
- 18:25Speaker 3: I just want to see it show up more as
- 18:28Speaker 3: you know, toughness being consistently delivered in the run game
- 18:31Speaker 3: and he's road grading guys and you know those kind
- 18:34Speaker 3: of things. So I I just I mean, look, he's
- 18:36Speaker 3: going to be a ten year guard. Nobody's going to complain.
- 18:38Speaker 3: But I also just you know, always going to be
- 18:40Speaker 3: like Joe Toney, like, well we had Joe Toney.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Well they screwed up on Joe Tune.
- 18:44Speaker 3: They just kept Joe Touney, and then you know, we
- 18:45Speaker 3: wouldn't be in this position to begin with. So I
- 18:48Speaker 3: go back to that, But I I just I still
- 18:50Speaker 3: think there's a lot of questions to be answered about
- 18:52Speaker 3: this class.
- 18:52Speaker 6: Marcus Jones.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Really my question with him is just what's the ceiling?
- 18:55Speaker 6: How high?
- 18:56Speaker 3: How much of could he be like one of these uh,
- 18:59Speaker 3: you know, three fase NFL superstars that does it all
- 19:01Speaker 3: and it's you know, like the face of a franchise
- 19:03Speaker 3: kind of a guy. I think he could be.
- 19:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he could be. No, that's I'm excited
- 19:08Speaker 5: about him.
- 19:08Speaker 9: I'm looking back through mycrow notes and I would say
- 19:11Speaker 9: two things. My actually, my biggest like eyebrow raise was
- 19:14Speaker 9: I love how he's Oh he says he's using Bill
- 19:16Speaker 9: O'Brien as a resource just with all of his knowledge.
- 19:19Speaker 9: Obviously he's seen all those guys at Alabama for the
- 19:21Speaker 9: past three years and also seen the rest of the
- 19:24Speaker 9: SEC for the past three or so years, and so
- 19:27Speaker 9: I think that's great because like, that's the type of
- 19:29Speaker 9: caliber player that I want you to draft. In the
- 19:31Speaker 9: first round. I want you to draft a guy that's
- 19:33Speaker 9: like a nighbor and guy that's good that's played against
- 19:35Speaker 9: good talent, and not you twa Chattanooga. I just don't
- 19:38Speaker 9: want that in the first round.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I mean I was just wondering though, like what is
- 19:41Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien's expertise with like the offensive pieces of the
- 19:44Speaker 3: Like shouldn't he know the defensive pieces of the sec
- 19:47Speaker 3: around Alabama a little better? Like how much time is
- 19:49Speaker 3: he spending really studying I think both of the other teams,
- 19:53Speaker 3: you know, just something like it'd be interested, like what
- 19:56Speaker 3: kind of inputs you get from him, like, oh, man,
- 19:58Speaker 3: we couldn't block this guy, you know, Nolan sp we
- 20:00Speaker 3: couldn't block this guy, or what you know, those kind
- 20:02Speaker 3: of examples rather than oh, this guy gave our defense
- 20:06Speaker 3: a lot of trouble and it's just interesting. But I mean,
- 20:08Speaker 3: like he said, the guy has done everything. I mean,
- 20:10Speaker 3: he knows what he's seeing. So it's a it's a
- 20:12Speaker 3: great resource, and so is.
- 20:15Speaker 5: He should be a great resource to mac Row. He
- 20:16Speaker 5: should also be a great resource to hopefully Bill Belichick.
- 20:19Speaker 5: I mean going to Penn State, you know, you know, Houston, Texans.
- 20:25Speaker 5: Then going over to Alabama then coming back to the NFL.
- 20:29Speaker 5: That's a lot of experience to draw from, you know,
- 20:32Speaker 5: different types of situations, you know. I like I said
- 20:37Speaker 5: before of Patricia and Joe Judge, even though that they
- 20:41Speaker 5: didn't do well as head coaches, just having that experience
- 20:45Speaker 5: helps them. Now, it didn't help them in the roles
- 20:48Speaker 5: that they were put in, but it just just you know, wisdom,
- 20:52Speaker 5: It helps you with wisdom.
- 20:54Speaker 6: It's almost like you forget about it.
- 20:55Speaker 3: With Bill O'Brien.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Like Bill O'Brien, I.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Think my biggest excitement is just that he is an
- 21:00Speaker 3: experienced offensive coordinator. And we said that so many times
- 21:04Speaker 3: last year, which I agree, Like, I mean, I don't
- 21:05Speaker 3: think that that's anything controversial to say that a coach
- 21:09Speaker 3: that has been a head coach in the league doesn't
- 21:11Speaker 3: have far more experience to draw upon than somebody who
- 21:13Speaker 3: hasn't been. So you know, but then you remember, like,
- 21:15Speaker 3: oh my god, he was in Houston forever. I mean,
- 21:17Speaker 3: he came here and played against us in the playoffs,
- 21:19Speaker 3: like he's he's seen all sides of it. So I
- 21:22Speaker 3: think that's just again that all feeds into just seeing
- 21:25Speaker 3: this presence up there today and saying, you know, we
- 21:27Speaker 3: got we got a real guy now in charge of
- 21:29Speaker 3: the offense. And you know, there's not gonna be any
- 21:31Speaker 3: excuses this year. If it doesn't look good, it's gonna
- 21:33Speaker 3: be probably because the players just aren't that good.
- 21:35Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, and when you're looking at you know,
- 21:38Speaker 9: the draft board, I guess this would be a great
- 21:40Speaker 9: time to have Evan here too. With the way Matt
- 21:42Speaker 9: grow described what he's looking for in a first round pick,
- 21:45Speaker 9: just like character and player wise, they want a guy
- 21:48Speaker 9: that's gonna come in and immediately be able to make
- 21:49Speaker 9: an impact, not like five years later being making make
- 21:53Speaker 9: an impact, but like right now, it's like looking at
- 21:55Speaker 9: the positions of the player, like the Patriots need. Is
- 21:58Speaker 9: that wide receiver that you need to come in right
- 22:00Speaker 9: now and be great that you draft at fourteen?
- 22:02Speaker 5: Or is that corner or is like it used to
- 22:05Speaker 5: be that wide receivers didn't make in median impact, But
- 22:08Speaker 5: that's changed over the last ten years, I'd say in
- 22:11Speaker 5: the NFL as more and more college programs are running
- 22:15Speaker 5: offenses that are you know, transferable to the NFL.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Yeah, seven on seven proliferation, all that stuff.
- 22:23Speaker 9: And then I also like when he mentioned that, like,
- 22:25Speaker 9: you know, what's it take to get like the ball
- 22:27Speaker 9: rolling and everyone's starting to pick wide receivers. He's like,
- 22:29Speaker 9: all it takes is one, right, So once the first
- 22:31Speaker 9: team picks a wide receiver in the first round, then
- 22:33Speaker 9: everyone's like, okay, I need to go get one. Yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 9: And so I thought that was interesting too. It's like,
- 22:37Speaker 9: I wonder, if you know that does start at pick ten,
- 22:41Speaker 9: that does that mean potentially Zay could be our pick
- 22:43Speaker 9: at fourteen? Yeah, I don't know.
- 22:45Speaker 5: I think I think the first run will be on cornerbacks.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I think, I mean, I think, I mean, I'd probably
- 22:51Speaker 3: split it between the tackles, and I mean, I just
- 22:54Speaker 3: it's you can talk yourself in and out of any
- 22:56Speaker 3: of these positions. As far as what's going to go above,
- 22:59Speaker 3: I mean, I think the cos I'm looking at, you know,
- 23:01Speaker 3: Peter Schrieger's mock draft here where he's got Hendon Hooker
- 23:04Speaker 3: going eleventh overall like a move like that, which nobody
- 23:07Speaker 3: really has. But you know, it just takes something like
- 23:10Speaker 3: that to happen that no one's projecting, and it kind
- 23:12Speaker 3: of screws everything up and it's gonna push somebody down.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Who's it gonna push down the board, and I think
- 23:17Speaker 3: we spend so much time talking about those positions. I
- 23:19Speaker 3: think the edge is that spot where if they're gonna
- 23:23Speaker 3: go away from one of those three spots, I think
- 23:24Speaker 3: it might be one of those random edge guys that's
- 23:26Speaker 3: just get you pushed down.
- 23:28Speaker 9: I could see Hendon Hooker that high. Not because I
- 23:31Speaker 9: love him because he went differty intech, but I like
- 23:34Speaker 9: Hendon Hooker in the sense like, if you don't have
- 23:35Speaker 9: an immediate quarterback need, you could wait for his acl
- 23:38Speaker 9: to heal, he could be groomed by whoever your starting
- 23:42Speaker 9: quarterback is and then be ready to go at some
- 23:44Speaker 9: point during the season and hopefully get some reps in.
- 23:46Speaker 9: But if you have an immediate quarterback need, obviously no,
- 23:48Speaker 9: because he's not gonna be ready.
- 23:50Speaker 3: I mean they seem like they're gonna have a need
- 23:51Speaker 3: sooner than later, like you know with Tannehill.
- 23:53Speaker 6: Like is he long for this?
- 23:55Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 23:56Speaker 3: I mean I know Hendon Hooker's older too, and that's
- 23:58Speaker 3: you know, part of the evaluation of is he going
- 24:00Speaker 3: to be ready to go? And if he's not, how
- 24:02Speaker 3: old is he going to be by the time that.
- 24:03Speaker 5: He is yeady to go?
- 24:04Speaker 9: And then staying on the same quarterback topic, the topic
- 24:07Speaker 9: of are you going to draft a quarterback this year?
- 24:09Speaker 9: Like the question that was asked is like, well, I'll
- 24:12Speaker 9: always like to keep you know, the competition going in
- 24:14Speaker 9: that quarterback room. So he was like, I don't see
- 24:16Speaker 9: the issue with always evaluating the quarterbacks every single year, yep,
- 24:20Speaker 9: because that makes the competition in the room better.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Listen, while Brady was here, they drafted a quarterback almost
- 24:25Speaker 5: every year.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Yeah, well that was that was his example was when
- 24:28Speaker 3: he was a scout, when we had twelve here, it
- 24:30Speaker 3: was never, Hey, we're good on quarterback. You don't have
- 24:32Speaker 3: to look at those guys. But I did find it
- 24:35Speaker 3: interesting Tamar's point of hitting that competition theme, and it's
- 24:39Speaker 3: a little bit of what Bill said about is Matt, look,
- 24:41Speaker 3: everybody's going to get a chance to compete. It's the
- 24:43Speaker 3: same company line about that position. So I always think
- 24:48Speaker 3: it's good business to draft quarterbacks. I would not be
- 24:52Speaker 3: opposed to taking one again. I know we've talked about
- 24:54Speaker 3: the kid from UCLA dtr a bunch. Yeah, I just
- 24:58Speaker 3: think people get so worked up, and I when you
- 25:01Speaker 3: take one in like the second or third round, of course,
- 25:03Speaker 3: then it's probably a reflection on how you feel. But
- 25:05Speaker 3: you know, those day three day guys that you're picking up,
- 25:08Speaker 3: trying to develop, keep on the practice squad, give you
- 25:10Speaker 3: a look at certain points. I just think you can
- 25:13Speaker 3: never have too many of those guys in the building.
- 25:15Speaker 9: Yes, as insurance, and I really want if you are
- 25:18Speaker 9: going to bring in competition in the couarterback room, I
- 25:20Speaker 9: want it to be someone with a different skill set.
- 25:21Speaker 9: So that's why I said DTR and I talked about
- 25:24Speaker 9: Troy Brown about this today when we were talking to them,
- 25:26Speaker 9: is like, how much of like, you know, an impact
- 25:30Speaker 9: do you think you'll have on like the draft class
- 25:31Speaker 9: with you guys being able to have hands on like
- 25:34Speaker 9: work with these guys, And he was like, yeah, it
- 25:36Speaker 9: was so great to not just be able to watch
- 25:38Speaker 9: them on film, but to see them in person, see
- 25:39Speaker 9: how they are in the meeting rooms, see how they
- 25:41Speaker 9: are off the field. Like he was like, that experience
- 25:43Speaker 9: was something that like is so valuable. And so that's
- 25:45Speaker 9: why I'm thinking, like, if they are going to pick one,
- 25:47Speaker 9: like maybe DTR is yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 10: One.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Well, my big takeaway from Troy Brown was unfortunately he's
- 25:51Speaker 3: going back into the Sharon Flag Football League so I
- 25:54Speaker 3: was like, hey, Troy, you're going back in share and
- 25:56Speaker 3: he's like, oh yeah, like no, not again, and.
- 26:01Speaker 9: He was he was asked like two questions about Juju
- 26:03Speaker 9: two and he's and you know, he did emphasize that
- 26:06Speaker 9: the yards after catch is huge from Juju.
- 26:08Speaker 3: You know who else I talked to was Ross Douglas,
- 26:11Speaker 3: who I didn't really get a chance to meet last year,
- 26:13Speaker 3: but he absolutely for me, stole the show on the
- 26:15Speaker 3: Shrine Bowl, miked up like just such great energy. We
- 26:20Speaker 3: were walking by the rooms. I think it was right
- 26:22Speaker 3: after Billy Oh came out, so he's just sitting in
- 26:25Speaker 3: the room by himself, like I'm like, oh dude, sorry,
- 26:27Speaker 3: we went up.
- 26:27Speaker 6: We talked him.
- 26:28Speaker 3: But what a what a great guy, just great energy
- 26:31Speaker 3: about him. I mean he's just all like you could
- 26:33Speaker 3: just tell me he's ready to go. Yeah. So pretty
- 26:37Speaker 3: pretty cool to see him. And you know, just some
- 26:38Speaker 3: of these young guys that that you know, we're kind
- 26:40Speaker 3: of filling the lower levels of the coaching ranks and
- 26:43Speaker 3: starting to work there.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Way it will needs to build that back up. I mean,
- 26:46Speaker 5: he had that pipeline of internal guys that you know
- 26:49Speaker 5: in the brain drain kind of you know heard our
- 26:53Speaker 5: depth chart.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, yeah, and talked to Brian Brian Belichick too,
- 26:57Speaker 3: who spoke at your at your football Clint.
- 27:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I did a great job.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Did another clinic. I think I think I heard overheard
- 27:04Speaker 3: Andrew Callahan of The Herald saying he just did another clinic.
- 27:07Speaker 3: So he's been all over the place to these guys,
- 27:10Speaker 3: you know, just being able to get out and coach
- 27:12Speaker 3: coach new faces, and you know, I think it must
- 27:14Speaker 3: help coaches being able to have to verbalize things to
- 27:17Speaker 3: new coaches and to new plays.
- 27:18Speaker 5: I mean, coaches is now coaching is teaching. Yeah, you know.
- 27:21Speaker 9: So one more thing before we got to completely go
- 27:26Speaker 9: off topic of what Matt Grove said today. Another note,
- 27:29Speaker 9: which is I don't know if you were in there
- 27:31Speaker 9: or not for this was, you know, what we've talked
- 27:32Speaker 9: about on the show, like all the guys whose contracts
- 27:34Speaker 9: are going to be up next to your own defense.
- 27:37Speaker 9: That question was asked, like, are you keeping that in
- 27:39Speaker 9: mind when you're thinking about this draft class? He's like, always,
- 27:42Speaker 9: of course, you have to keep in mind that, you know,
- 27:44Speaker 9: Duggar or Bryant whoever is going to end in twenty
- 27:47Speaker 9: twenty three or twenty four said you have to keep
- 27:49Speaker 9: that in min when you're drafting this year because you
- 27:50Speaker 9: don't want to have holes.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Right, So I'm.
- 27:53Speaker 9: Wondering, you know that if that's going to shake up
- 27:55Speaker 9: everyone's mock drafts, that the next one.
- 27:56Speaker 5: That you've got to have backup plays to your backup plan. Yeah, yeah, Chase.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Another one to like.
- 28:02Speaker 9: It's like, okay, it would be great to get some
- 28:04Speaker 9: guys in here too, if you do get them in
- 28:05Speaker 9: the third or fourth round, that could come learn behind
- 28:09Speaker 9: these guys and then hopefully not be as referenced edge
- 28:13Speaker 9: as the following year if you don't, if you aren't
- 28:15Speaker 9: able to retain all those guys.
- 28:16Speaker 5: Ye. Speaking of retaining, they announced Miles Bryant.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Asually signed his tender, so he'll be around for another year,
- 28:23Speaker 3: just like Jacoby was last year.
- 28:25Speaker 5: So all right, so now before we open up the
- 28:29Speaker 5: phones emails, I want to just you know, talk about
- 28:32Speaker 5: what happened in the NFL over the last few days.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Jalen hurts huge contract.
- 28:38Speaker 9: Huge, but agent Nicolon shout out to her, Yeah.
- 28:42Speaker 5: That's great, good for her, you know, a black representative
- 28:48Speaker 5: of you know in the NFL. We need more of that.
- 28:52Speaker 9: I also just love the story of how she's able
- 28:54Speaker 9: to represent him. She literally sent him a cold DM like, hey,
- 28:57Speaker 9: you an agent yet if not, would love to link
- 29:00Speaker 9: And then they connected and yeah, And it's like to think,
- 29:04Speaker 9: like how many times And I tell people like students
- 29:06Speaker 9: this all the time when they ask for advice and
- 29:08Speaker 9: sorry men who are listening to this, But I'm like,
- 29:09Speaker 9: think about how many times guys shoot their shot at you,
- 29:12Speaker 9: like over and over after you've already said no, like
- 29:14Speaker 9: continue to have that same energy. Just send the cold email,
- 29:17Speaker 9: send a cold DM like.
- 29:18Speaker 5: How I got my job here? I sent him to
- 29:20Speaker 5: Jonathan Crawt.
- 29:22Speaker 9: And so I love that her story just starts with that,
- 29:24Speaker 9: just like she really she didn't know him, She just
- 29:27Speaker 9: sent him a DM and the rest is history.
- 29:28Speaker 5: She's going to have a lot more clients now.
- 29:30Speaker 9: Yes. And then also this made me think like is
- 29:33Speaker 9: Lamar looking at this and thinking like, Okay, should I
- 29:36Speaker 9: surrender and get an agent because I could have gotten
- 29:39Speaker 9: a deal.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Like that done?
- 29:40Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:41Speaker 9: Or am I going to continue to just let mom
- 29:43Speaker 9: be my agent? But it's like I wonder how much
- 29:46Speaker 9: sooner his deal would have been done if he had
- 29:47Speaker 9: someone like Nicole.
- 29:48Speaker 5: I think it might have been a little sooner. Yeah,
- 29:52Speaker 5: I did see a rumor that the Ravens recently offered
- 29:55Speaker 5: him two hundred million guaranteed.
- 29:58Speaker 9: Now, so, but and what's hurts guaranteed?
- 30:02Speaker 5: Like one eighty something? Maybe I'm a little bit confused
- 30:06Speaker 5: and hurts his deal. I'm getting different numbers and what's
- 30:09Speaker 5: guaranteed and what's not and all that stuff. That's always
- 30:12Speaker 5: the case with these huge contracts.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Some people come out and highlight what they want to highlight, right, well,
- 30:16Speaker 3: but and then all of a sudden, well, actually it's
- 30:18Speaker 3: only a one year, but it's big, and I think.
- 30:20Speaker 9: Is it bigger than Deshawn's.
- 30:23Speaker 5: Well, I'm not sure in terms of the overall guarantee.
- 30:27Speaker 5: I think Deshaun's is more. But in real like real cash,
- 30:30Speaker 5: real cash or something like that, like he's number two
- 30:33Speaker 5: right now or something like that. It's confusing, but it's big.
- 30:37Speaker 5: It's big and good for him. There's a guy that like,
- 30:42Speaker 5: you know, just head down and just did what he had.
- 30:45Speaker 9: To do, did what he had to do. His club
- 30:48Speaker 9: like sees the value in him and put the pieces
- 30:50Speaker 9: around him to make him successful.
- 30:52Speaker 6: Yeah, and they saw it, and then they rewarded him.
- 30:54Speaker 5: And they saw what they had in him, and they
- 30:56Speaker 5: let him loose last year and they went to the
- 30:58Speaker 5: Super Bowl as a result. You know, he was an
- 31:01Speaker 5: MVP candidate for sure last year. Uh So that was
- 31:05Speaker 5: it was big news. And then of course the trickle
- 31:07Speaker 5: down to Lamar. So now what happens with Lamar? You know,
- 31:10Speaker 5: does he look at that and say, Okay, you know,
- 31:13Speaker 5: I don't need necessarily need to break the bank, but
- 31:15Speaker 5: if I come in around Jalen, then I'm okay. Or
- 31:18Speaker 5: does he say no, no, I've been around longer than him.
- 31:20Speaker 5: I should be making a lot more like the price.
- 31:22Speaker 6: I just went, oh my god.
- 31:24Speaker 9: I did think it was interesting in Obj's press conference
- 31:27Speaker 9: after he signed the other day that he someone asked
- 31:30Speaker 9: him like, are you signing here because you know that
- 31:32Speaker 9: you know, some inside scoop essentially on Lamar signing, And
- 31:36Speaker 9: He's like, well, no, I wouldn't say that. He's I'm
- 31:38Speaker 9: signing with the possibility of knowing that like he could
- 31:40Speaker 9: be playing here, And I'm.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Like, really, I think.
- 31:45Speaker 9: Especially to be yeah, yeah, especially because Obj made it
- 31:49Speaker 9: clear I want to go somewhere where like good quarterback
- 31:52Speaker 9: that is like going to be contending for a title.
- 31:54Speaker 5: So I mean, remember, like, even if he doesn't sign,
- 31:56Speaker 5: he's still got the tag and so he I don't
- 32:00Speaker 5: know what's that what's the tag forty million.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Or something like that somewhere around there.
- 32:05Speaker 5: I mean, so yeah, he's not going to be missing
- 32:08Speaker 5: any meals even if he plays under the tag.
- 32:10Speaker 6: So it's just funny how this is for him then.
- 32:14Speaker 5: But now next his borough, we'll see what happens with him.
- 32:17Speaker 3: It's I mean, it's it's like it's never going to
- 32:19Speaker 3: be perfectly ranked. Where you look at who are the
- 32:21Speaker 3: top five quarterbacks in the league this year and are
- 32:24Speaker 3: they one, two, three, four, five in salary? It's just
- 32:27Speaker 3: such a function of when you get to that point
- 32:30Speaker 3: and the team is like, right, we have to make
- 32:32Speaker 3: you the highest play.
- 32:33Speaker 6: Are you the best?
- 32:34Speaker 9: Man?
- 32:35Speaker 6: Maybe not?
- 32:35Speaker 5: Now if I'm Kansas City, I go to my homes
- 32:39Speaker 5: and say, listen, we're gonna just give you an increase
- 32:41Speaker 5: just so you're up there with these guys, right, I would,
- 32:44Speaker 5: you know, just just to make sure that everybody knows that,
- 32:48Speaker 5: you know, we back our guy. He's you know, and
- 32:51Speaker 5: you don't have to deal with it later.
- 32:53Speaker 6: I mean, but how do you tackle it, you know?
- 32:54Speaker 3: And how do you manage it, especially when you have
- 32:57Speaker 3: I mean, I know that there's so much of Oh
- 33:00Speaker 3: Tom Brady took team home team discounts.
- 33:02Speaker 6: He did not like, you know, no, I know that's
- 33:04Speaker 6: what I mean.
- 33:04Speaker 3: I know that that's just like a thing to say,
- 33:07Speaker 3: you know, but it's just he certainly at least seems
- 33:10Speaker 3: like somebody who the second someone else made more money
- 33:12Speaker 3: than him. He wasn't thrown.
- 33:13Speaker 5: He was very flexible with his contract, and he allowed
- 33:16Speaker 5: the Patriots to restructure it every time. By the way,
- 33:18Speaker 5: every time they restructured it, he made more money up front,
- 33:21Speaker 5: of course, you know, yeah, so, but he allowed the
- 33:25Speaker 5: team to use his contract almost like a home mortgage
- 33:29Speaker 5: with equity, so like, oh we need some room. Okay,
- 33:32Speaker 5: well we'll just redo Tom's thing and that'll give us room.
- 33:36Speaker 5: So you know, in that way, he was very cooperative
- 33:39Speaker 5: with the team. But you know, people say, oh, you know,
- 33:42Speaker 5: he took this big discount. Not really, not really, but
- 33:46Speaker 5: I just.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Wonder, like, and I just using Hurts as the example,
- 33:49Speaker 3: because he was the latest of what you know is
- 33:50Speaker 3: in two years is he like, you know, this isn't
- 33:52Speaker 3: really a top five deal anymore, you.
- 33:54Speaker 5: Know, after gets paid well, that's why I'm saying Kansas
- 33:57Speaker 5: City should be proactive and just keep my homes at
- 34:00Speaker 5: the top of the heap y, you know.
- 34:02Speaker 9: But I also think with Hurts in his style of play,
- 34:04Speaker 9: I mean, same with Lamar, there comes that risk of injury,
- 34:06Speaker 9: so you kind of have to see in two years
- 34:08Speaker 9: where is his body.
- 34:09Speaker 6: That's a really that's a really good point.
- 34:11Speaker 3: I mean I think that's a big part of what
- 34:12Speaker 3: you saw with a lot of like the Lamar speculation
- 34:15Speaker 3: was I mean agent stuff aside being you know, they
- 34:17Speaker 3: want to just do a two year deal or a
- 34:19Speaker 3: three year deal, just something quick, so like you know,
- 34:21Speaker 3: we can find out and then get out if you know,
- 34:24Speaker 3: you start to break down or this play isn't sustainable.
- 34:28Speaker 5: Quarterbacks should want security, oh yeah, you know, so that's
- 34:33Speaker 5: where those that guarantee is huge. You know. So I
- 34:38Speaker 5: would say that right now Jalen has security. Oh yeah.
- 34:41Speaker 9: And I think when it comes to Burrow though, I
- 34:45Speaker 9: think he's worth two hundred million guarantees.
- 34:46Speaker 5: Absolutely, I mean definitely.
- 34:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 34:49Speaker 5: The other factor that teams, you know, play into this
- 34:52Speaker 5: is not just the performance in the field, but the
- 34:55Speaker 5: marketing impact. Oh yeah, you know, selling season tickets, and
- 34:59Speaker 5: there's other impact of having that player and that goes
- 35:04Speaker 5: into what their contract is.
- 35:05Speaker 11: You know.
- 35:06Speaker 3: It is funny with Burrow though he's he's there's something
- 35:09Speaker 3: special about that guy, yeah, because you bring him up
- 35:11Speaker 3: just like I mean even we were out at the
- 35:12Speaker 3: NFL when means you're talking to the girl from from
- 35:15Speaker 3: the Lions teep. You know, we're all just you know,
- 35:17Speaker 3: talking about quarterbacks and like Burrow comes up and everybody's
- 35:19Speaker 3: just like.
- 35:21Speaker 9: You know, there's something about everything.
- 35:24Speaker 3: He's got the total package.
- 35:27Speaker 5: I mean, the two of you are too young. But
- 35:31Speaker 5: I mean when Joe Namath was in his heyday, he
- 35:33Speaker 5: was wearing the fur coats and you know he was
- 35:36Speaker 5: he had the swag and you know he'd be at
- 35:38Speaker 5: the pool side with like four women around him.
- 35:41Speaker 9: He was the guy it was, you know, it was
- 35:44Speaker 9: it was over. Once Joe Burrow sat on the couch
- 35:46Speaker 9: with the cigar after he won the National championship. It
- 35:49Speaker 9: was done.
- 35:50Speaker 3: And you'd hate a lot of people that did that.
- 35:52Speaker 3: Like a lot of people could pull that move and
- 35:53Speaker 3: you'd be like, oh, look at this guy. But there's
- 35:55Speaker 3: just he gets away with it.
- 35:56Speaker 5: He looks like Macauley Coke.
- 36:00Speaker 6: We never got into drugs like right, clean mcaulay Culker.
- 36:02Speaker 5: Would have looked like right.
- 36:03Speaker 9: But I will say the one thing that I think
- 36:05Speaker 9: about with all these like major deals for quarterbacks is like,
- 36:09Speaker 9: for a team like the Bengals, how are you gonna
- 36:11Speaker 9: keep everybody? Because they have a lot of great pieces,
- 36:14Speaker 9: Like you obviously want to keep Burrow and Chase, But
- 36:17Speaker 9: how much is Chase gonna cost?
- 36:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's simple, really draft, Well, that's that. I mean,
- 36:21Speaker 3: that's that's it.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Draft so that when these guys leave, you got people
- 36:25Speaker 5: behind it.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Once you get into that tail spin of all right,
- 36:28Speaker 3: we missed on a couple of drafts. We were gonna
- 36:30Speaker 3: have to go into free agency and take take those risks.
- 36:33Speaker 9: You know.
- 36:34Speaker 3: It's I mean, I think anything you talk about with
- 36:36Speaker 3: the Patriots and their sustained excellence, I think you can
- 36:38Speaker 3: probably tie it to specific drafts that they were able
- 36:41Speaker 3: to hit in.
- 36:42Speaker 6: You know, two thousand and ten.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Twenty twelve, those got star players to keep it going
- 36:47Speaker 3: and to rebuild it again. And you know, if that
- 36:49Speaker 3: had to hit on those drafts, it would have we
- 36:51Speaker 3: probably would be Tenure'd be twenty thirteen, and we'd be
- 36:54Speaker 3: sitting here doing the same exact thing where we don't
- 36:57Speaker 3: have a Gronk, we don't have an Edelman anymore. We
- 36:59Speaker 3: still were trying to Deon Branch and Randy Mawson wilst Welkern.
- 37:02Speaker 3: You know, it would be the same thing if they
- 37:03Speaker 3: didn't find those players.
- 37:04Speaker 9: Well, Uston, I think that what you just described is
- 37:06Speaker 9: it being a hit that needs to be this season,
- 37:08Speaker 9: Like it needs to be like a hit, not just like, oh,
- 37:11Speaker 9: we're gonna be fine, but it needs to be like
- 37:13Speaker 9: a hit.
- 37:14Speaker 5: Well it does, and more so because you don't have
- 37:16Speaker 5: the elite quarterback to cover up mistakes, you know, Burrow Mahomes,
- 37:22Speaker 5: you know, herm leeway for those all those guys, they're
- 37:25Speaker 5: going to keep winning as long as those guys are healthy.
- 37:28Speaker 5: You know, they may not be the dynasty the Patriots were,
- 37:31Speaker 5: but they will always be in contention with that elite quarterback,
- 37:36Speaker 5: I think, you know, and then how far you go
- 37:40Speaker 5: it gets into like how well do you draft? You know?
- 37:43Speaker 3: But I think to me, Mahomes proved that it doesn't
- 37:46Speaker 3: really matter, you know, as long as they're I mean
- 37:48Speaker 3: to that, it's really gonna just come down to for them.
- 37:50Speaker 3: It's it's like what I felt like with with this
- 37:52Speaker 3: team in the mid twenty tens, was just are Brady
- 37:55Speaker 3: Gronkin Edelman healthy, because then I'll give them a chance
- 37:57Speaker 3: against absolutely anybody. And I feel similarly now with with Mahomes,
- 38:01Speaker 3: even if it's you know, just him, he's probably gonna
- 38:04Speaker 3: pull that team to at least a couple of AFC
- 38:06Speaker 3: Conference games, you know, when they have all their best
- 38:09Speaker 3: player got heard and you know he's kind of just
- 38:11Speaker 3: trying to cobble it together like Brady had to do
- 38:12Speaker 3: a couple of times. He's able to do that.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Yep, all right? Eight five five PATS five hundred is
- 38:18Speaker 5: the ace ticking hot line web radio at Patriots dot com.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Is the email address? Is Paul coming?
- 38:23Speaker 6: There's no, He's on vacation.
- 38:24Speaker 5: Paul's where is he?
- 38:26Speaker 3: Uh? I don't know. He drove there. It's in the South.
- 38:29Speaker 5: Oh yeah, like South Carolina or something like that. South Yeah,
- 38:33Speaker 5: Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, that's is that where he is?
- 38:35Speaker 3: I think that's the Perlos stopping grounds.
- 38:37Speaker 5: And then Evan is is he writing?
- 38:38Speaker 3: And Evan's gonna write something, then he should be down
- 38:40Speaker 3: I think for the second half. Second half?
- 38:42Speaker 5: All right, Well, let's get to the phones. We don't
- 38:46Speaker 5: have to break for food or anything. Right, Paul's not here.
- 38:48Speaker 3: I just got to eat a banana.
- 38:49Speaker 5: All right. Well, we'll take some calls. Let's go to
- 38:53Speaker 5: We'll start with David in New York. What's up, David?
- 38:57Speaker 10: Hey, guys are going good. So I had an NFL
- 39:01Speaker 10: point first, and then I had a Patriots point to
- 39:04Speaker 10: tie it back in. So my first one about the
- 39:07Speaker 10: quarterback contract is I have this opinion, and I don't
- 39:10Speaker 10: like the narrative that just because your quarterback was the
- 39:13Speaker 10: highest paid quarterback five years ago, it means your contract,
- 39:16Speaker 10: his contract is the steel Now. I mean I came
- 39:19Speaker 10: up with the analogy just like a few minutes ago.
- 39:20Speaker 10: It's like bragging him out buying a big Mac for
- 39:23Speaker 10: a dollar in two thousand and seven, and now.
- 39:25Speaker 12: It's worth four.
- 39:26Speaker 10: It's like, no, that's what it was, that's what he
- 39:28Speaker 10: was worth.
- 39:28Speaker 13: At the time.
- 39:29Speaker 10: No, but but here's the contract to steel.
- 39:32Speaker 5: But here's the thing. The reason why you can kind
- 39:36Speaker 5: of say that, though, is because the salary cap goes
- 39:39Speaker 5: up so much. You know, it all factors into the
- 39:42Speaker 5: salary cap. So you know, five years ago that was
- 39:46Speaker 5: a bigger percentage of Kansas City's overall salary cap. Now
- 39:50Speaker 5: it's a lot less because the salary cap keeps going
- 39:53Speaker 5: up so much, so in a way, it does become
- 39:55Speaker 5: a bargain after five years with the rate of the
- 39:58Speaker 5: salary cap going up. You know.
- 40:01Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm mostly talking about like because I think if
- 40:04Speaker 10: you have the far and away best quarterback in the league,
- 40:07Speaker 10: doesn't really matter what you pay him. I'd give him
- 40:10Speaker 10: homes whatever he wants. But if you're talking like the
- 40:11Speaker 10: two to top ten range, like, I don't know, Like
- 40:16Speaker 10: it just doesn't seem like.
- 40:17Speaker 11: It's much of a steal.
- 40:19Speaker 3: It's still I mean, I think you just know it's
- 40:20Speaker 3: going to be the biggest, probably the biggest contract on
- 40:22Speaker 3: your team, and it is what it is. And how
- 40:24Speaker 3: you know if it's one percentage of.
- 40:27Speaker 10: My Patriots point. I think that people are putting too
- 40:32Speaker 10: much emphasis on the flashy positions like the wide receiver,
- 40:38Speaker 10: the tight end, that sort of thing. And while I
- 40:40Speaker 10: think we still need a wide receiver one, I just
- 40:44Speaker 10: I don't I would like to see it, But at
- 40:47Speaker 10: the same time, I don't think it's a smart idea
- 40:49Speaker 10: to draft as they flowers at fourteen when there's a
- 40:51Speaker 10: Joey Porter Roderi Jones available.
- 40:54Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I think a lot of people as well. Yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 5: a lot of people agree with you. Yeah, thanks David.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Speaking of wide receivers, I don't have my beast Dane
- 41:04Speaker 5: Brugler's beast, but I was going through the wide receivers
- 41:08Speaker 5: and there's a kid, I think late round from West Virginia.
- 41:11Speaker 5: I forget his name that I really like. Hmm, yeah,
- 41:15Speaker 5: I'll get that name. I put a sticky note there.
- 41:19Speaker 5: I'll look it up when I get it.
- 41:20Speaker 9: I'm on the search.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Yeah, Virginia attackiack Virginia or West Virginia.
- 41:25Speaker 5: I might have been West Virginia. That's right, you're Virginia Tech, right.
- 41:29Speaker 9: West Virginia is one of our arrivals. Actually, hok, he's
- 41:31Speaker 9: not Mountaineers, I will say. On Peter Schregger's board up
- 41:36Speaker 9: there for wide receivers, they was like number six going
- 41:39Speaker 9: to like the Giants, which I really don't like that.
- 41:42Speaker 9: I don't know six overall, No, yeah, like six overall
- 41:45Speaker 9: going to the Why Well, I'm like.
- 41:48Speaker 5: Yeah, he's there. I guess his thinking is we just
- 41:51Speaker 5: gave Daniel Jones a truckload of money. We got to
- 41:54Speaker 5: give him something.
- 41:56Speaker 9: Is it Bryce Ford Wheaton? Is that his name?
- 41:59Speaker 5: That might have been it?
- 42:00Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, from West Virginia.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Yeah, what is he? Like? Sixty three?
- 42:03Speaker 9: He's an intriguing late round prospect.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, that's the guy. That's the guy. That's that's
- 42:09Speaker 5: the guy.
- 42:10Speaker 9: You're right, six four twenty one pounds.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the guy. I had him a little less weight.
- 42:18Speaker 9: But yeah, I mean yeah, that's probably like his pre pre.
- 42:24Speaker 5: Yeah, one of the French gyms. But I'd take him late.
- 42:28Speaker 5: You know. Let's go to Todd in North Carolina. What's
- 42:34Speaker 5: up Todd?
- 42:35Speaker 14: Hey, guys, I could listen to do some tomorrow all
- 42:38Speaker 14: the time. They need to do some sports audio books.
- 42:40Speaker 12: I think that's right.
- 42:41Speaker 13: Voices, Okay, all right.
- 42:44Speaker 14: Good work, Fred, You got the right guys there. My
- 42:47Speaker 14: thing is I got two quick ones.
- 42:48Speaker 11: Number one.
- 42:49Speaker 12: How many people can.
- 42:50Speaker 14: We protect on that practice squad? Because, like you said,
- 42:53Speaker 14: Judn't is getting older, some of these other guys getting older.
- 42:56Speaker 14: We might need to have some people there for future development.
- 42:58Speaker 14: I know you could protect like two last year was
- 43:01Speaker 14: it or is it three?
- 43:02Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 43:03Speaker 5: I thought there was a change a lot of people. Yeah,
- 43:05Speaker 5: there was for offensive lineman or I forget what it
- 43:08Speaker 5: was and they've made it easier. But there's like ten
- 43:11Speaker 5: people on the practice squad now, right right, more than
- 43:14Speaker 5: that markets. Yeah, so it's like, I don't know, protecting
- 43:18Speaker 5: him doesn't really bother me. You just bring other people in.
- 43:21Speaker 14: Yeah, And the next thing is a quick question about
- 43:25Speaker 14: your old protege there Fred. Mister Hart actually came out
- 43:30Speaker 14: and said that he feels that Bill has has lost
- 43:32Speaker 14: a bit of his fastball with some of the things
- 43:35Speaker 14: he said and some of the stuff he's done and
- 43:37Speaker 14: some of the retractions he had to make. So I'll
- 43:39Speaker 14: take that answer off the air, but I'm really curious
- 43:41Speaker 14: to what you guys think about mister Hart.
- 43:43Speaker 5: Okay, thanks. I didn't hear the context in which he
- 43:46Speaker 5: said it, and so I'm only going with what Todd says.
- 43:49Speaker 5: I think Bill's in a different position. I think, you know, uh,
- 43:53Speaker 5: he hasn't been in the position you know for twenty
- 43:56Speaker 5: years while Brady was here, and so you know, he
- 44:00Speaker 5: he's forced to address things that he hasn't had to address,
- 44:02Speaker 5: and so we're seeing, you know, the twenty five year comment,
- 44:06Speaker 5: you know, which was way out of character. Even a
- 44:08Speaker 5: guy like Teddy Bruski came out and said that's not
- 44:12Speaker 5: something he I would ever think he would have said.
- 44:15Speaker 5: You know, so when Teddy says it, it's not just
- 44:18Speaker 5: us dummies, you know, raising our eyebrows.
- 44:21Speaker 3: And he's had to come out a couple of times
- 44:22Speaker 3: and clarify, yeah, I'm meant which is you know?
- 44:25Speaker 5: So I think it's the situation forces you know, different
- 44:28Speaker 5: questions and of course different answers. And you know, Bill,
- 44:34Speaker 5: Bill was never good, you know in terms of like
- 44:37Speaker 5: handling the media like he was good in deflecting them
- 44:41Speaker 5: and just basically putting his hand out and saying an
- 44:45Speaker 5: I'm I'm not answering, you know, but now it's tougher
- 44:50Speaker 5: because you're not winning. When you're winning, you can do that.
- 44:54Speaker 5: But when you're not winning, now you you know, it
- 44:57Speaker 5: does it's not a good look to refuse to answer.
- 45:01Speaker 5: So it's a it's a new situation and we're seeing
- 45:04Speaker 5: new answers.
- 45:05Speaker 3: I think that's something that's kind of underrated but really
- 45:08Speaker 3: obvious of just how hard it is when you're not
- 45:11Speaker 3: doing well as a sports team and just everything gets
- 45:14Speaker 3: drummed up to a bigger level, and you know, it's
- 45:17Speaker 3: it's also just that last year was a mistake, and
- 45:21Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think there's any other way to
- 45:22Speaker 3: cut it than you know, it was a mistake the
- 45:25Speaker 3: way that that year was handled offensively, and I think
- 45:28Speaker 3: we're still kind of waiting to see how that accountability
- 45:32Speaker 3: comes forward, and you know, do we see it when
- 45:34Speaker 3: we get out there on the field and feel like, well,
- 45:36Speaker 3: things have been rectified. You're never going to pin him down.
- 45:38Speaker 3: But it's just a lot harder when things aren't going
- 45:41Speaker 3: great and you can't just say, well, look, we're winning games.
- 45:43Speaker 3: So I don't know what you guys are complaining about now.
- 45:45Speaker 3: It's there's nothing to go to and people are right, yeah.
- 45:49Speaker 5: So I mean different circumstances, you know, reveal different things.
- 45:54Speaker 5: And so we're seeing a side of you know, Bill
- 45:57Speaker 5: Belichick that we haven't seen. Now you go back to Cleveland.
- 46:02Speaker 5: A lot of a lot of what happened there can be,
- 46:04Speaker 5: you know, accountable to the fact that he wasn't experienced
- 46:08Speaker 5: as a head coach. He had never done it before.
- 46:10Speaker 5: But I mean he had a real tough time with
- 46:13Speaker 5: the media back then. He got really surly with them.
- 46:17Speaker 5: You know, there's a couple of comments I won't repeat
- 46:19Speaker 5: here that you know, where he famously said and they
- 46:23Speaker 5: just weren't winning, you know. Plus he had a little
- 46:26Speaker 5: bit of a quarterback controversy back then, so you would
- 46:31Speaker 5: think that he had learned a lot since then. But
- 46:34Speaker 5: you know, with when it's hard, like I don't want
- 46:40Speaker 5: to be a psychiatrist, but when you are as smart
- 46:42Speaker 5: as Bill Belichick is, and he is smart, like he
- 46:45Speaker 5: could be the CEO of any company in any you know, genre,
- 46:50Speaker 5: because he's that smart, he would just learn it. Like,
- 46:53Speaker 5: he doesn't have patience with us folk. He doesn't, you know,
- 46:59Speaker 5: and that's that's not a good thing. That's not an attribute.
- 47:02Speaker 5: I'm not saying that that's something he should be lauded over.
- 47:06Speaker 5: It's it is one of his faults. It's one of
- 47:09Speaker 5: his weaknesses. He just doesn't have patience with people because
- 47:13Speaker 5: he is smarter than most people. And that's just a fact,
- 47:17Speaker 5: that's not just him thinking it.
- 47:18Speaker 3: He is certainly with football especially. But I have a
- 47:23Speaker 3: question for the group would be what do you think
- 47:25Speaker 3: was the average length of regime of the Dolphins, Bills,
- 47:29Speaker 3: Jets during the twenty years of the Patriots runs?
- 47:31Speaker 6: You know, how many times did they all?
- 47:33Speaker 3: Right, we got a new quarterback, we got a new coach,
- 47:35Speaker 3: we drafted a first round quarterback.
- 47:37Speaker 6: We feel really good about this.
- 47:38Speaker 3: We got hammered six or eight straight times by the Patriots,
- 47:41Speaker 3: and now we're gonna blow it up, you know, because
- 47:43Speaker 3: that's somewhat to what the Patriots are right now. So
- 47:46Speaker 3: you know, I mean, it's it's hard to try to
- 47:49Speaker 3: stay the course with those kind of you know things,
- 47:51Speaker 3: and I mean just bills. I mean they're just going
- 47:53Speaker 3: to quarterback names, coaches names, going through my head of
- 47:56Speaker 3: how hard it is to you know, maintain your belief
- 47:59Speaker 3: and a head coach and a quarterback and a whole structure.
- 48:01Speaker 3: When all right, we're in your three. Now we're in
- 48:03Speaker 3: your four. We're still losing to the Patriots. You know,
- 48:07Speaker 3: now it's time to blow it up. It's you see
- 48:09Speaker 3: what they're up against, and it's it's a rising tide
- 48:11Speaker 3: until they you know, get back to that point where
- 48:13Speaker 3: you feel like, all right, now we're really in that conversation.
- 48:15Speaker 3: But we know some of those teams never got there.
- 48:17Speaker 5: No, you're in you're always in that catch up mode.
- 48:21Speaker 5: And having you know, back then, having Belichick and Brady
- 48:25Speaker 5: in your division forces you to make decisions that you
- 48:28Speaker 5: wouldn't otherwise make. It makes you become impatient. Your fans
- 48:32Speaker 5: are impatient, ownership's impatient, your sponsors are impatient because there's
- 48:36Speaker 5: you know, like it's like this constant pressure to get better,
- 48:40Speaker 5: and like you said, you make you make, you make
- 48:44Speaker 5: decisions that you know, the Patriots didn't have to make,
- 48:47Speaker 5: whether it's coaching or you know, players, and it's it's
- 48:51Speaker 5: it's tough, and you get into this vicious cycle of
- 48:55Speaker 5: just churn.
- 48:56Speaker 9: I feel like the teams that have made it out
- 48:59Speaker 9: of that cycle and they're actually doing well took risks,
- 49:02Speaker 9: big risks that ended up, you know, benefiting them. Look
- 49:05Speaker 9: at the Bills, I mean, and I'm scared to say,
- 49:08Speaker 9: look at the Jets. Maybe maybe in due time. Look
- 49:10Speaker 9: at the Jets.
- 49:11Speaker 5: When you talk about risks, Sean McVay, young guy Rams,
- 49:14Speaker 5: you know, you could consider that at risk and it
- 49:17Speaker 5: paid off for them, you know.
- 49:18Speaker 9: And I think even like some of the players that
- 49:20Speaker 9: they're paying money for or like trading for, I think
- 49:23Speaker 9: that the Patriots, unfortunately they are gonna have to start
- 49:26Speaker 9: doing that. They have to look at it and be like, okay,
- 49:28Speaker 9: we can't we can't rest in our morals like we
- 49:30Speaker 9: have to do something differently to get back to where
- 49:33Speaker 9: we used to be, and I think that starts with
- 49:35Speaker 9: taking risks and paying people, trading for people, and not
- 49:39Speaker 9: just sitting back. I mean, I know, like we're saying
- 49:42Speaker 9: the draft is huge, but I still think we shouldn't
- 49:44Speaker 9: miss out on those opportunities to take risks when they
- 49:46Speaker 9: are available.
- 49:47Speaker 6: I like the taking risklings.
- 49:49Speaker 3: I mean I also say teams that stink and then
- 49:52Speaker 3: hit on their high round draft, you know, so like
- 49:55Speaker 3: the Bengals, you know, so like I give, I totally
- 49:58Speaker 3: think the Bills are a good example of your point,
- 49:59Speaker 3: where you know, Josh Allen had some wartz and they
- 50:02Speaker 3: and you know, they had to have some kind of
- 50:04Speaker 3: projection of what he was going to be. Where's a
- 50:07Speaker 3: team like the Bengals, They just they stunk, but they
- 50:10Speaker 3: made those picks.
- 50:11Speaker 6: And I think that's what's hard for the Patriots is
- 50:13Speaker 6: that are they.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Ever gonna stink bad enough to get those top ten
- 50:16Speaker 3: picks to really get those impact players, because if they don't,
- 50:20Speaker 3: to your point, they've got to be a little risky.
- 50:22Speaker 3: They've got to be smart. They've got to figure out
- 50:24Speaker 3: exactly what they need and be targeted with what they
- 50:26Speaker 3: ends a little bit of what you heard from Grow.
- 50:28Speaker 3: We'll see if they actually do it.
- 50:29Speaker 9: And I like what he said today that he said
- 50:31Speaker 9: he is a veil. They know what they need to do.
- 50:34Speaker 9: If they do need to trade up or trade back,
- 50:36Speaker 9: they said they have looked at those So I thought
- 50:37Speaker 9: that that was interesting, and I would be interested to
- 50:40Speaker 9: see them trade up and go get someone they really
- 50:42Speaker 9: want if he's there, like say if a handed hooker
- 50:45Speaker 9: or somebody comes out of nowhere and pushes somebody back
- 50:48Speaker 9: that they want. But they're like two spots up and
- 50:50Speaker 9: you need to go get them, Go get them, Like
- 50:52Speaker 9: if you think he's going to be that difference maker
- 50:55Speaker 9: right now, Yeah, and you don't want to miss out
- 50:57Speaker 9: on them, go get them.
- 50:57Speaker 5: Grow mention the word conviction. Yeah, if you have the
- 51:00Speaker 5: conviction and the consensus. He said, it's great when there's
- 51:05Speaker 5: consensus on a guy, you know, then go get them,
- 51:08Speaker 5: Go get them.
- 51:08Speaker 9: Don't wait to hope that he's going to get their fourteen.
- 51:11Speaker 5: Go get him, Go get them.
- 51:11Speaker 3: I don't I don't know who else I would trade
- 51:13Speaker 3: up for. To be honest, I like I would trade
- 51:16Speaker 3: out for Gonzales. I think you know, he's just an
- 51:18Speaker 3: all around, do everything, plug him in day one outside
- 51:20Speaker 3: cornerback kind of a guy. But otherwise it's it's hard
- 51:24Speaker 3: to really for me to say, I'm not going to
- 51:26Speaker 3: really probably trade up for any of the receivers. I
- 51:28Speaker 3: think some of the I mean, you can make a
- 51:30Speaker 3: case if you love Paris Johnson that he is just
- 51:32Speaker 3: a you know, a prototypical left tackle type, and there's
- 51:35Speaker 3: a reason too. But he's also you know, inexperience, So
- 51:37Speaker 3: there's some questions that I think people would say, oh,
- 51:40Speaker 3: I'm alright, waiting a little bit. I'm going to get
- 51:42Speaker 3: another tackle that you know has similar kind of developmental questions.
- 51:45Speaker 3: So I don't know that would be my question, A
- 51:47Speaker 3: big good one for Evan maybe when he comes down
- 51:50Speaker 3: of just you know, what players do you think are
- 51:51Speaker 3: really worth it to trade up? And I mean worth
- 51:54Speaker 3: it because I think the Patriots have some holes and
- 51:56Speaker 3: I think they have a number of things they need
- 51:58Speaker 3: to fill on day two. It's hard to say, are
- 52:01Speaker 3: we going to package forty six and fourteen to go
- 52:03Speaker 3: up to ten or twelve or something like that. You know,
- 52:05Speaker 3: It's just I don't like anybody that much to have
- 52:08Speaker 3: those two picks. I'd rather trade down and try to
- 52:11Speaker 3: get multiple picks there in D.
- 52:12Speaker 5: Two Williams and Philim. What's up William william Hey?
- 52:20Speaker 11: How you doing there?
- 52:21Speaker 5: You are? There?
- 52:22Speaker 9: Is?
- 52:22Speaker 11: Sorry, but I'm sorry about that. I had it on
- 52:24Speaker 11: and what not. Sorry. I just want to I want
- 52:28Speaker 11: to start first. I called last week and I was
- 52:30Speaker 11: kind of a little bit harsh, you know, saying I
- 52:31Speaker 11: hate Bill Belichick. It's just that he pissed me off
- 52:34Speaker 11: for it. I don't hate him because I wasn't. I
- 52:37Speaker 11: wasn't raised to hate anybody, you know what I mean.
- 52:38Speaker 11: I disliked what he did. Yeah, but I don't hate
- 52:44Speaker 11: Bill Belichick. They's just just the moves and things that
- 52:47Speaker 11: he do sometimes just hurts me. So I just wanted
- 52:50Speaker 11: to just give to give a scenario, just to piggybank
- 52:54Speaker 11: off of what Mike said. Mike's said, well, you know
- 52:57Speaker 11: about giving up draft capital that we'll get this player.
- 52:59Speaker 11: If you once that player might guess what it's going
- 53:02Speaker 11: to be. So just give you a scenario real fast.
- 53:05Speaker 11: If if the Patriots wanted uh JSN Paris Paris Johnson,
- 53:11Speaker 11: Christian Gonzales or even Devon web Wetherspoon, You're gonna have
- 53:15Speaker 11: to give up the safe state. You want to trade
- 53:17Speaker 11: with the Philadelphi Eagles, Okay, be able to you know,
- 53:20Speaker 11: to get the number ten, I give us the first
- 53:22Speaker 11: a third and maybe even first third and maybe even
- 53:25Speaker 11: a fourth. Is it worth it? Yeah? Yeah, out of
- 53:30Speaker 11: those names, take the best pit. I mean, you can't
- 53:33Speaker 11: lose on even one of them.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Well, I mean, but I think you named four guys.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I mean, I think one of those four probably be
- 53:38Speaker 3: there at fourteen. You know, if you if you're talking
- 53:40Speaker 3: about all four of those guys are there at twelve.
- 53:43Speaker 6: You know, I'd be okay waiting, I don't.
- 53:44Speaker 3: I don't see, like, I don't think JSN is worth
- 53:47Speaker 3: the whole draft to you know, to do I just
- 53:49Speaker 3: I maybe could make a case for Gonzales. But he's
- 53:52Speaker 3: not Garrett Wilson. To me, he's not Chris Olave.
- 53:55Speaker 11: You don't you wait wait wait wait a minute, okay,
- 53:59Speaker 11: wait a minute, I got to get some question, have you. Okay,
- 54:03Speaker 11: he's the he's clearly probably the best out of all them,
- 54:07Speaker 11: of the next to Zay Flowers too basically out. But
- 54:10Speaker 11: I mean, I'm just saying, well, okay, let's just scoot
- 54:12Speaker 11: him out le's scoot the wide receivers out because we
- 54:14Speaker 11: know the wide receiver clans ain't really that great though,
- 54:18Speaker 11: not like last year is basically. But I'm saying for
- 54:21Speaker 11: Paris Johnson though, because you got Tennessee, Texas and the
- 54:25Speaker 11: Jets they're going to take him, You've got to jump
- 54:27Speaker 11: in front of three of them. They get either him
- 54:29Speaker 11: Christian or Christian guns out. How about that? Is that fair?
- 54:33Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 54:33Speaker 3: Yeah, no, And I think that's totally, you know, worth
- 54:36Speaker 3: worth a conversation and consideration for sure. I mean, I
- 54:38Speaker 3: think those are two big important positions in need that
- 54:41Speaker 3: I think if you trade up to get those guys,
- 54:43Speaker 3: you're probably plugging them in for five years and they're
- 54:45Speaker 3: going to be really good players for you.
- 54:46Speaker 6: So yeah, I mean I'm with you on those ones.
- 54:49Speaker 3: I just but after those two guys, that's where I
- 54:51Speaker 3: start to get a little bit like, well, who you know,
- 54:54Speaker 3: like unless maybe you want to talk quarterbacks.
- 54:56Speaker 11: But I'm with you all the way. Well, thank y'all,
- 55:00Speaker 11: and y'all take here.
- 55:01Speaker 5: Okay, all right, thanks William, appreciate it, all right? Just Marker, Yeah,
- 55:10Speaker 5: I didn't want to get it all over my fingers.
- 55:12Speaker 5: Noah's in Toronto. What's up, Noah.
- 55:16Speaker 15: I just want a quick question about Marcus Jones. Obviously,
- 55:21Speaker 15: he made you know, a lot of splash plays as
- 55:23Speaker 15: a return around a gadget offense player last year, but
- 55:26Speaker 15: I feel like I don't really know how well he
- 55:28Speaker 15: did as a corner, which is where his value should
- 55:31Speaker 15: be really coming front. So you know, I forget how
- 55:34Speaker 15: well did he do as a corner last year? And
- 55:36Speaker 15: what do you guys see his role being on defense
- 55:38Speaker 15: this year?
- 55:39Speaker 5: Thanks Noah. I think there were certain situations last year
- 55:43Speaker 5: where he was playing his true position in inside corner
- 55:47Speaker 5: on some quick guys where he really did help out. Yes,
- 55:50Speaker 5: you know, he really did help out. He did his job,
- 55:52Speaker 5: you know, didn't come away with a lot of interceptions
- 55:55Speaker 5: or anything, but really, you know, kept up with players,
- 55:58Speaker 5: and you know, I think there were some injuries at
- 56:01Speaker 5: cornerback and it forced a lot of guys to play
- 56:04Speaker 5: positions that they really weren't suited for. But I think
- 56:07Speaker 5: if you keep him in a certain role at cornerback,
- 56:11Speaker 5: he's going to be fine. Yeah, but then when when
- 56:13Speaker 5: you add the returnability and the gadget offensive ability, this
- 56:17Speaker 5: is a Swiss Army knife guy, you know, Yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 3: I think he's got to be inside. I mean, I forgot,
- 56:22Speaker 3: I'm forgetting what game Paula remember, but there was one game,
- 56:25Speaker 3: what near the end where he was playing on the
- 56:26Speaker 3: outside for Mills and yeah, you know, it's right with
- 56:28Speaker 3: the guy, but just doesn't have quite the height to compete.
- 56:31Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's one of the things that
- 56:33Speaker 3: nobody talks about as much is coming out. He's just
- 56:36Speaker 3: outstanding at playing man coverage and sticking with guys, and
- 56:40Speaker 3: I think we saw some glimpses of it last year,
- 56:43Speaker 3: but I think, you know, to the point of like
- 56:44Speaker 3: a Christian Gonzales, where hey, let's get the outside lockdown
- 56:48Speaker 3: with you know, maybe a top round rookie pick and
- 56:51Speaker 3: Jonathan Jones, and you know, then you have the ability
- 56:54Speaker 3: to really put Marcus Jones in positions to do what
- 56:57Speaker 3: he does best, which is, you know, put him against
- 56:59Speaker 3: these little guys and have him stick. I think if
- 57:02Speaker 3: he's able to play in that role, I think he
- 57:04Speaker 3: could be one of the best slot corners in the
- 57:06Speaker 3: league just because of how athletic he is. I think
- 57:09Speaker 3: that the sky is the limit for this kid as
- 57:13Speaker 3: far as what he can do and the excitement he
- 57:15Speaker 3: can just bring to this team. I think that they need,
- 57:17Speaker 3: you know, a marketable kind of you know guy who's
- 57:20Speaker 3: I mean, we had him on the Draft show. He's
- 57:21Speaker 3: just you know, great kid, really likable. I know he's
- 57:24Speaker 3: into music too, and you know, just everything he says,
- 57:27Speaker 3: he just he seems like he goes about everything.
- 57:29Speaker 9: Right.
- 57:29Speaker 5: I don't think he's ever going to be an all
- 57:30Speaker 5: pro corner, but he's going to be a great scheme corner.
- 57:34Speaker 5: Where like you're playing Miami and you got to do
- 57:37Speaker 5: something with Tyreek Hill and so the plan is, you know,
- 57:40Speaker 5: it's Marcus Jones off the line, but he's got help. Yeah,
- 57:43Speaker 5: you know, so it's kind of that man's zone type
- 57:45Speaker 5: of hybrid and you know he's going to be with him.
- 57:50Speaker 5: So even if the catch is made, there's not going
- 57:52Speaker 5: to be a lot of yards after catch.
- 57:54Speaker 14: You know.
- 57:55Speaker 9: Were you in the room with Brian Belichick today when
- 57:57Speaker 9: they were asking about filling the void? Yeah of Devin, Yeah, yep,
- 58:03Speaker 9: an easy way yeah yeah. And that's why I'm thinking
- 58:07Speaker 9: fourteen could be a corner, I mean, or just just
- 58:10Speaker 9: to I don't know, I'm just so torn about missing
- 58:15Speaker 9: Devon and not having him there and just I just
- 58:17Speaker 9: don't want them to like fall short in that area
- 58:20Speaker 9: just because they think that they have Like some guys
- 58:22Speaker 9: like you know, Jalen can play two positions, so the
- 58:24Speaker 9: guys like that who they're like, oh, we'll be fine,
- 58:26Speaker 9: like just with a mixture of those of a couple
- 58:28Speaker 9: of those guys. But he's multiple to fill his role.
- 58:31Speaker 3: It's just as hard to see. I mean, I can
- 58:32Speaker 3: see them taking a corner, but I don't know how
- 58:33Speaker 3: much that really affects replacing Devon. And I think it's
- 58:37Speaker 3: gonna be some combination. I mean, he was specifically asked
- 58:40Speaker 3: about Mills, you know, comments that he's played safety before,
- 58:43Speaker 3: and you know, it's and it's like when I talk
- 58:46Speaker 3: to pel Green, I'm like, you know, and he's technically
- 58:48Speaker 3: the cornerbacks coach. I'm like, you lost Devin out of
- 58:50Speaker 3: your room. Because they just they all work together, they
- 58:52Speaker 3: all consider themselves well. I think it's gonna be some
- 58:55Speaker 3: kind of combination of everybody chipping in. I just it's
- 58:57Speaker 3: I have a hard time seeing if it wasn't a
- 59:00Speaker 3: free agent like a Jesse Bates, someone who's very established
- 59:03Speaker 3: and knows what he's doing. It's hard to see them
- 59:05Speaker 3: drafting one of these rookies and being like, all right,
- 59:08Speaker 3: you got it. You're on the back end of our defense.
- 59:10Speaker 6: Don't get beat deep.
- 59:12Speaker 3: But I will say you look at the twenty twelve
- 59:15Speaker 3: season before Devin really moved to this safety role full time,
- 59:19Speaker 3: and they were repeatedly torched deep, especially against Seattle. Remember
- 59:23Speaker 3: a couple of those with Tamon Wilson, you know, where
- 59:25Speaker 3: they were trying to play strong safety types as free safeties.
- 59:29Speaker 3: They just didn't have the instincts and the big plays
- 59:31Speaker 3: just killed them that year. That's something that we know
- 59:35Speaker 3: it can't happen with the offenses that they faced weekly.
- 59:37Speaker 5: Now, my god, Patty's an Agua. What's up? Patty?
- 59:42Speaker 12: Hey doing great on vacation with my twins who are
- 59:45Speaker 12: up from school this week.
- 59:46Speaker 3: Nice?
- 59:47Speaker 13: Awesome.
- 59:47Speaker 3: What are you guys doing.
- 59:50Speaker 12: We're just chilling. You know, we're gonna we'll probably hit
- 59:53Speaker 12: like a trampoline park later this week. We're going to
- 59:55Speaker 12: go to the library today.
- 59:56Speaker 5: Okay, great, what's the question?
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: A vacation? I thought we were somewhere fun.
- 1:00:02Speaker 12: Now it's staycation. So I had a question regarding josh
- 1:00:07Speaker 12: Ucha and do you guys see a situation where they
- 1:00:11Speaker 12: possibly they lock him up long term because I know, Deuce,
- 1:00:15Speaker 12: you've said it before. I mean this this whole like
- 1:00:19Speaker 12: searching outside when we're not re signing our good own,
- 1:00:23Speaker 12: homegrown talent. And I could see, like Josh, he looks
- 1:00:27Speaker 12: like at least the last couple of years sort of
- 1:00:29Speaker 12: like Tetrid Twise was like, like, he's sort of on
- 1:00:32Speaker 12: an upward trajectory. And you know, if you're gonna lose
- 1:00:35Speaker 12: Matt Judahon in a year or two, like if they
- 1:00:39Speaker 12: do the same thing they did with Steph Gilmore and
- 1:00:41Speaker 12: cut Ties a year early, wouldn't it make sense to
- 1:00:43Speaker 12: like lock this guy long term, especially if he's going upwards.
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: It's certainly what Use showed last year was really hopeful.
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: But to me it was just one year. I don't
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: know where the second year comes in, but he had
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: a good year last year. I'm intrigued, you know. I
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: I'd be willing to sit down with him right now
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: and talk about an extension, but I'm not emptying the
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: brinks truck for him yet. You know, he hasn't shown
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: to me to be consistently elite outside now. Again, it
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: depends on what he's looking for. You know, if he
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: and his agent are willing to, you know, be reasonable
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: about it. I I I would look to lock him up,
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: but I'm not gonna pay him elite edge money yet.
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: You know, let's see what he does this year.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: A lot of unpacked there. I mean, I think just
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: worth like thirty percent snap players. I mean, he's he's
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: basically a one down player. He was in his third year.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: So you know, you always hear them say the more
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: you can do versatility. I mean, he's not a versatile guy.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: He's a one trick pony. He does one thing pretty
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: good and you know, certainly had a breakout year last year.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: But it's just hard hard to say, are they gonna,
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: you know, pay him for all those sacks?
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: Like I you know, it's such a buyer beware situation.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: I compare to Mark Anderson when him Andrew Carter were
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: here in twenty eleven, and Andrew Carter got hurt. Mark
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Anderson I think had ten sacks and went and got
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: paid by Buffalo, and you know it wasn't really that guy.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: I mean, it's such a favorable situation for josh Ucha
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: where it's basically like, all right, go out there, go
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: get the quarterback, and there's not a lot for him
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: to do. And I know over the years we've seen him,
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: you know, work inside a little bit. They've tried to
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: kind of figure out what he can do.
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: But I just I think in.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: The long term you have to find you know, if
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: you could combine him with Jennings, you probably have a
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: pretty you know, the all around guy.
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: But well, you met both just kind of.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: Thirty percent snaps last year, right, I'd say that he
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: did a pretty good job maximizing while he was absolutely
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: but to me, that commands a certain amount of money,
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: Like he's not an every down player, you know, so
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: it just depends on what his expectations are. But I
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: think there there's a need for that guy. There's a
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: need for that.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: That's totally the point I was just about to make,
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: like like, it's not you. I don't want it to
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: sound like he's nothing. Like it's a passing league and
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: if you don't have guys that can get out there
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: and get after the quarterback, and certainly he has the
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: kind of athleticism to stick with some of these athletic quarterbacks.
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: But you're just you're paying this guy.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: For one down, and I mean, we know around here
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: they want four down guys they want, you know, or
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: at least the potential that they might develop.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: Now, I thought, yeah, you're paying him for one situation,
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: which is.
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: An important situation to get off that field.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, But I'd also say.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: It, and I made this point plenty of times this offseason,
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: for all the sacks that they produced last year, I mean,
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: they were in the bottom half of the league on
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: third down defense, So you know, it's yeah, they're productive
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: in sacks, but it's more than sacks about getting off
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: the field and you know, being able to especially against
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: the good teams.
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: I just one more point to make on it.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: I thought, I mean, I think that Tutrick wise Things
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: is a good comp that he brought up. They have
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: different players, but I think Dietrich Wise was kind of
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: more of a pass rusher early in his career, and
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: you know when you saw him that the game against
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: Tennessee comes to mind, the playoffs in twenty nineteen, when
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: you know he just wasn't a run stopper. I mean,
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: he's got good length, but he just kind of get
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: pushed around. And I thought last year his technique kind
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: of took a sudden surge.
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: Now, could that happen with.
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: I faded a little down the stretch though. Wise, yeah, I.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Don't know if it's gonna happen with ch just because
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: I don't think really has the size to play in
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: this defense consistently first second down. It's just it is
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: what it is.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: Eldred in North Carolina, Hey, Aldred.
- 1:04:16Speaker 13: Hey Fred, heighty tomorrow. How y'all doing good?
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:04:22Speaker 13: Pretty good too? I heard the first part of the show.
- 1:04:25Speaker 13: I loved where you tomorrow was talking and Fred. But
- 1:04:30Speaker 13: I'm I'm hoping that we do trade up and Mike
- 1:04:34Speaker 13: with you.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:04:35Speaker 13: I don't want to go over and get right now.
- 1:04:36Speaker 13: It's Gonzales seeven Goma wide receiver guy, but we need
- 1:04:40Speaker 13: that corner. And I don't care what nobody said last
- 1:04:43Speaker 13: year draft, I still stay with the f you got
- 1:04:46Speaker 13: Marcus Jones, But like I said last year, he's too short.
- 1:04:49Speaker 13: He can't run against through A big guy with speed
- 1:04:51Speaker 13: and a quarterback is accurate. We've seen that last year.
- 1:04:54Speaker 13: Us a good Meals and us a good Jones. So
- 1:04:57Speaker 13: you're gonna need somebody on the outside. We had a
- 1:04:59Speaker 13: chance to get one left last year, but we got strange.
- 1:05:02Speaker 13: And what bothered me, it's the same guy doing the picket.
- 1:05:06Speaker 13: I know everybody talked that last year to talk to
- 1:05:08Speaker 13: this year, but the same guys doing the picket. Yeah,
- 1:05:11Speaker 13: and that's what I can't get really get paid.
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: I mean, I just wonder I would love to know
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: exactly what went on with that cold, strange picka.
- 1:05:20Speaker 16: You know.
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: Yeah, it's like to me, it means nothing to lean
- 1:05:24Speaker 9: on the guys like Bill O'Brien or you know, anyone
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: else that they're tapping into to get insight. You know,
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: he grow gave a lot of credit to his assistance
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: for all the work that they do on character and
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: things that we don't know about when we're scouting. But
- 1:05:37Speaker 9: it's like, how much of that are you actually listening
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: to and how much of it is Bill? Just like,
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: I really don't care if this is.
- 1:05:43Speaker 13: What I want, Yeah, that's what I'm thinking and do
- 1:05:47Speaker 13: so question. I know, I've been talking a lot about
- 1:05:51Speaker 13: Quintin Johnson and I like that guy from Texas, but
- 1:05:56Speaker 13: nobody's talking about Jalen Hyatt, Wow, from Tennessee.
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: That's a good question.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: I mean, I mean I've seen him, I've seen him
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: ranked as the top receiver in some of these classes,
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: you know, I think, I mean and I know, you know,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Evan's got a whole thing on him of of you know,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: largely being schemed open. I mean, I think Tilman. I
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: liked Tillman better a little bit with his previous year
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: from what I saw him. But I mean, fast, tall
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: slot guy, you know. I mean that's I think what
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: he's what he's going to be. I've kind of shied
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: away from those guys just because I think they've got
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: like I just you can't run four verts every single down, like,
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: and it feels like that's kind of what they have
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: right now.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: But I think he's one of those players.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: Though that could suddenly just pop up and be the
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: top receiver taken or you know, second in that first round,
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: even though nobody's really talking about him. I think he's right.
- 1:06:42Speaker 13: No, but I've seen a bunch of people taking him.
- 1:06:44Speaker 13: Uh let's see. I think Ken State was one of them.
- 1:06:48Speaker 13: And I know Buffalo is. They keep saying Buffalo is
- 1:06:51Speaker 13: going after my guy, Quinn Johnson, and I'm like, well,
- 1:06:54Speaker 13: if he team up with Diggs, I don't gonna hate
- 1:06:56Speaker 13: to see that because they're like DK Mitya, I know
- 1:06:59Speaker 13: you ain't a fast the MADCAF, but like I said,
- 1:07:01Speaker 13: you don't get open eat not a run route, But.
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: All right, thanks.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:10Speaker 9: I like that question just because, And I think someone
- 1:07:13Speaker 9: may have asked about what the process is like, because
- 1:07:16Speaker 9: it's like when you ask a friend like for outfit advice,
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: and in your head you know what what you're gonna take,
- 1:07:21Speaker 9: but you're just like, okay, let me, let me just
- 1:07:23Speaker 9: ask and they and they're they're like, thank you for advice.
- 1:07:26Speaker 9: I'm gonna wear this anyway. I just hope it's not
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: like that. I hope it's more of like a consensus,
- 1:07:32Speaker 9: like you said, Fred, I think I really hope that
- 1:07:34Speaker 9: it's like we put all of our research and resources in,
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: we listen, and we actually make the best decision based

- 1:15:22Speaker 5: a Jersey Mike story for you. Oh yeah, listen, I
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: was at home. I had to work from home yesterday
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: because I hit a curb on Friday blew out a tire.
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: They couldn't.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: I thought you had self ceiling tires.
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: Well that's how I got home. Oh, had I not
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: had the run flat tires, I would have been stranded.
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: But I got home. But they couldn't get the new
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: tires till yesterday. So I was working from home. I
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: didn't have a car. So figure, you know, I'm gonna
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: use one of these services and I'm going to order
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: a sub from Jersey Mikes. So I ordered. Yeah, So
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: I ordered, you know thirteen, which is the Italian Mike's
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: Way with a bag of chips between the delivery trucks.
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: I paid thirty seven dollars for sub.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: It was ridiculous. The delivery services is how they get you. Yeah,
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: careful with that.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: Thirty seven bucks for a number thirteen sub and a
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: bag of chips. It's not like Uber eats or what
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: it was Uber eats, right, yeah, you know, dude, you
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: know what. It is one of those kind of I
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: just get my car and drive. I mean what, Yeah,
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: I didn't have a ky dad.
- 1:16:21Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: I got a twenty five dollars gift card for one
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: of my kids to Jersey Mikes for my birthday and
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: they send you a free sub, free points if you're
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: on there, if you're on the rewards thing.
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: So so I got I got the most expensive sub
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: I've ever bought. It was so good.
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: Did you did you have a pause for a second
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: before you hit like okay?
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: No, I mean I was. I was just said, like,
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: what else am I going to do? You know? So
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: I just sucked it up. But it was good. It's
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: it works good.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: Thirty thirty seven dollars. You should have just upgraded and
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: gotten like the Jumbo, because if you're gonna like then
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: you would have spent like an extra three bucks.
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: It would have been forty.
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: But she would have had ten SHUBs, you know, two meals, right, Yeah,
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: I get the regular size, which is pretty big.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: I think it's me and Paul have this discussion a lot.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: It's just it's a little too small, but the jumbo
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: is a little too big. You need like a middle size.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: We talked about what if we got a job. Yeah,
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: he's pretty big, man. They stuff it. It's not like
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: you know, it's it's big. Sometimes when I'm kind of hungry,
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: like I could do a mini and that's fine.
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: Really, Yeah, I.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: Did a many a couple of weeks ago because we
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: were going to my parents' house for dinner and it
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: was kind of in between lunch and dinner. So I
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: just was like, all right, I'll just get a mini
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: and then that'll hold me over until dinner, and it
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: worked out perfectly.
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, that was my Jersey mic story. But Evan,
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: more importantly, you were also at the availability today, were
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: you with O'Brien? Yes, And so what were your highlights?
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Well, I think you know, I was talking upstairs about
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: that scene in Iron Man three at the end where
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: he initiates clean Slate protocol and all the iron Men
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: blow up across the board. That's a little how it
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: felt today with Bill O'Brien. He must have said clean
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: slate ten times. And I think that's really the motto
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: of the offense this spring and summer is that last
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: year was last year. Whatever happened last year is a relevant,
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: new coach, new offensive coordinator, really irrelevant to anything to
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien's knowledge, and we're moving forward. It's a clean slate.
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: And I think that trickled on up and down from
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: the quarterback to pretty much everybody else on the roster.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: So from that perspective, I felt like it was a
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: good thing that that's the way that he was speaking
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: now as I normally do, try to ask him some
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: ex's and o's questions, and I think he told Tom
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: Kerrn that it would be crazy of him to tell
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: us what they're going to do offensively from a schematic perspective,
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: So he played that close to the vest. But I
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: think in general, the general sentiment was we're moving forward,
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: we're not looking in the rearview mirror, and everybody's got
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: a clean slate, and from now on is when you
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: start to make an impression on Bill O'Briant.
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: Okay, I mean that makes sense. Will you at all
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: surprised that grod Mayo was on a riser, you know,
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: talking on behalf of the defense?
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: Yes, and no. I feel like the thing that's tricky
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: about girod Mayo is that he dances around. And I'm
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: not saying it as a negative, but it's just a
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: fact he dances around. The questions about his role and
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: what exactly do you do around here? And what is
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: your title? He doesn't want to address those things. And
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: somebody asked him about mister Kraft basically saying that he'd
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: be happy for him to be the heir apparent to
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: Bill Belichick, and he essentially no commented that question. He
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: was like, that's a tricky, tricky one for me to answer,
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: so I'm not gonna touch it. And he doesn't. It
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: seems like he is comfortable with his role and what
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: the plan is. That was what he talked about, was
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: the plan that they have put in place for him
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: to grow as a coach, to eventually get to the
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: point where he's a head coach. And the only other
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: thing I took away from what he said is I
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: think part of him feels like he's not ready to
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: be a head coach in terms of his knowledge of
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: everything that goes on with an organization. So he actually
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: said that he's going to be around for a couple
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: of years, not just this season, but said a couple
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: of years. And I think that the general consensus was
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: that he's playing the long game here, not necessarily about Bill,
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: but more so about learning the ropes and learning the
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: trade and not jumping into a head coaching opportunity too
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: soon without having that background.
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: Well that see, that makes it even more curious to
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: me that he's there talking on behalf of the defense.
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: You would. I thought that he might not even talk today,
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: and then that Steve Belichick might be sort of the
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: guy talking, you know, overall defense, you know, because because
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: Gerard Mayo was going to be more in that kind
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: of upper role where he's kind of floating around and
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: learning what it really means to be a head coach.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: So I don't know, I'm confused a little bit.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think Joe Judge is kind
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: of doing that. Like I mean, I think Joe Judge
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: is going to be the is going to be the
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: the ernie, you know, I mean, and I think that's
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: something that they might have missed last year is having
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: that Matty p did it, And I know it's different,
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: but I you know, I think as much talking as
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: assistant head coach and those kind of titles and stuff.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: I think the concilierre, the guy in Bill's ear, I
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: think will be Joe Judge. I'm wondering if that was
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: a purposeful thing that, hey, we missed this element last year.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: We all know about some of the miscommunication, pre snap penalties,
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: those kind of things that you know sometimes come from
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: not all being on the same page. So maybe that's
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: part of it too.
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: Yeah, But I mean if you're like, if you're in
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: charge of the defense, then that's where your focus needs
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: to be, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: Would you say, though, I mean I kind of feel
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: like Girod Maybe he's not in charge of the defense,
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: but I feel like he's kind of the emotional leader
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: of the defense, like.
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: You know, like that.
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: That's always how the way I've always looked at it
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: with the defense was that Gerard was the face of
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: the defensive coaching staff and Steve was the play caller.
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: So Gerrod is the guy, but.
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: Who's who is formulating the defense?
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: I think that's a collaborative thing I really do. And
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: I would also, you don't form a defensive game plan
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: on Bill Belichick's staff without Bill Belichick being in the room, right,
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: I mean, why would you do that? So I think
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: that ultimately it's Bill's defense. But I think Girod Mayo
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: is the one that you consistently hear about presenting game
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: plans to the players, breaking down film in front of
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: the room, and really being the voice of the defense,
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: where Steve is more of the guy behind the scenes
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: that's maybe has a headset on game days in the playsheet,
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: but is not necessarily out front and center in those
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: eating rooms as much as Gerrod Mayo is. So when
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: it comes to who's making the game plan, I think
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: that that's collaborative. When you get to Sunday's Steve is
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: calling the places, Gerrod said it. He said, Steve's been
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: calling the play since twenty nineteen. Oh really, Oh yeah,
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: came out and we finally found out. So that was acknowledged,
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: not that it hasn't been acknowledged in the past, but
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: Garrod came out and said that, and he said he's
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: fine with it, that he doesn't that that's not something
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: that he's worried about or upset about, or even spending
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: too much time thinking about that Steve is calling the
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: plays and he's not. So in a lot of ways,
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: it feels kind of like a head coach coordinator hierarchy,
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: but just only on the defensive side of the ball,
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: where Gerard is handling a lot of the big picture
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: organizational type stuff and presenting and things like that, and
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: Steve's the one that's actually doing the play calling on
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: game day.
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, I thought I thought there was a chance
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: this year that Steve would become the defensive Yeah.
- 1:24:01Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: It's a tricky thing to do because he is your
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: son at the end of the night.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: The visual of it, but I think, yeah, I think
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: he's probably pretty good. I mean, yeah, you know, I
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: I think I think he could do it.
- 1:24:14Speaker 6: You know, he looks, he looks the part, you know,
- 1:24:17Speaker 6: I like, I know, he looks.
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: You know, with the tongue and all that that meme
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: got out there and all that. But I think he's
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: I think he's got the chops to be a DC,
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: you know, Yeah.
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: Of course, I mean I don't know.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: I mean I kind of like the stupid look like,
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: I mean, I don't it's just it's always like like
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: Rob Ryan, like, there's always those defensive coordinators.
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: Who you know, they they look like they're there.
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: I think on that side of the ball. Offensively, there
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: it's most most of the time about creativity and being
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: that kind of maestro, that chess master. Defensively, I think
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: you got to have some khons because you there's gonna
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: be times or you're going up against Josh Allen and
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: if you're just gonna sit and soft zone the entire game,
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: he's gonna rip you apart. But every once in a while,
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: you got to come after him and really start to
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: spin the dial a little bit. And I think they've
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: done that. The one thing I would say about Steve's
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: play calling is sometimes I feel like, especially in matchups
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: against Alan recently, that he's just trying to throw every
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: single call in the Rolodex at him, where maybe it's
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: best to just kind of sit in a couple of
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: different things that Alan has trouble with instead of just
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: trying to hit him with volume, because I think at
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: the end of the day, with a quarterback like that
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: or a quarterback like Mahomes, they can create so much
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: on those second reaction plays, on those extended plays that
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: you can spend the dial on them all you want,
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: but if he just doesn't understand what he's looking at,
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: he's just gonna hold the ball and then just wait
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: for it to break down and then play playground football.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: On kind of what they did to Brady two in
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: twenty one, like just just like a Pote Perrie coverages.
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: And Yeah, I just would sometimes I would like to
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: see them really feel drown conviction about a specific game
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: plan and a way to approach a certain quarterback and
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: then just stick with it a little bit more. I
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: think sometimes they get into their own heads of we
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: will if we just sit in one thing, that this
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: quarterback is going to pick us apart.
- 1:26:15Speaker 9: Well.
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: I think part of that is, you know, they have
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: confidence their players, but they know that their players, there's
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: no one on our defense that's that good that another
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: team can't exploit. So they're trying to we can't just
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: line up trying to avoid another team from identifying we
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: got this guy or we got that guy, and they're
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: trying to hide their weaknesses.
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's it's two full because on one hand,
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: I think that sometimes they overcomplicate things for themselves, but
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: on the other hand, I'd be hard pressed to find
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: a playbook that's as diverse as the Patriots defensive calls.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: I mean they they call everything in anything under the
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: sun that they think might work, whether it's blitz Man's
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: zone whatever. Like, they have literally every single thing at
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: their fingertips to try to pull something out of the
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: hat if they have to. So it's always great to
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: watch their defense because every week, every down is something different.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: Web radio at Patriots dot com as the email address
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: Scott and Virginia writes it in. I thought an interesting
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: comment from Matt grow was what he said about receivers
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: being taken early. Specifically, all it takes is one to
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: be taken in the first round, and then another and
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: then another. To me, it sounds like in this draft
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: it's best to be the first team to take a
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: receiver to be sure you get your guy, because after
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: that it's gonna be hard to read the board since
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: a run on receivers will most likely occur.
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I just think it's like that with
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: any position. I mean, it's gonna be like that with tackle,
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: it's gonna be like that with cornerback too.
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: I just the receivers.
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: I think Corner will be the first run. That's my prediction.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: I would just draw the line with this receiver class though, Like,
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: you know, if somebody takes one at nine, does that
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: mean you got to trade up to ten because you
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: love JSN or you love Zay Flowers, Like.
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: I don't know. I think that they're in a pret
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: good place to see how it kind of falls.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: But it was a call we got earlier. Evan was
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: just about you know, who would you trade up for?
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: And I'm like, nobody got maybe, and that's kind of it.
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: And otherwise something that's not it is going to be
- 1:28:14Speaker 6: put down.
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: It is not a trade up draft to me, because
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: this is a draft that is really deep in certain
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: positions from like ten through seventy five. But there's not
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: a there's no other than maybe the quarterbacks, and I
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: guess like Jalen Carter and Will Anderson. I don't think
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: that there's any guys on here that project as future
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: potential Hall of Fame type of guys.
- 1:28:39Speaker 13: Now.
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: I know that's easier said than done to predict those
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: types of things, but I just don't look at this
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: draft as very top heavy, I guess. And the receiver
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: position is definitely part of that conversation where the receiver
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: class is really more in that twenty to forty range
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: that all these receivers I think are going to go
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: at the top of the board as and there's really
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: nobody there to take at at five or ten or
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: anything like that. So I don't look at this draft
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: as a very good trade up draft. This to me
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: is a classic Belichick trade down draft and accumulate more
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: picks because there is that maybe not elite elite talent,
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: but there's a lot of good players in this draft
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: that maybe if you cast a wider net, but I
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: wouldn't say this is a big trade up draft.
- 1:29:24Speaker 5: Tim Wrights in. First, I want to congratulate both Evan
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: and Mike on their draft big boards and the very
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: comprehensive draft prospect guide. They are very easy to understand
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: and will be my guides on draft night. Thank you.
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: I know what, Evan, You've got your draft guy that
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: you can download now.
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: You should download that.
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: I don't know why you're giving that away. Why are
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: you just giving that to people? What do you mean
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: everybody else? Like you have to pay and everything.
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: You know, that's your job.
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: I just do the words. Get their name, you know,
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: like you know, but you know, I'm only kidding, but yeah,
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: it's very nice of you to do that. No, I
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: mean I And by the way, kudos to it's Ferreira.
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: He put it together. Yeah, I mean I did all
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: the film notes obviously, but it was Chris's. Yeah, Chris's animal.
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: I thought it was a lot of time.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: I mean, Chris, Chris put it all together. I mean,
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: go download it. But I mean I just you know,
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: as a Patriots fan who loves the draft, I would
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: have been all over that in two seconds. And I'm
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: sure plenty of people are all over it. So yeah,
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: thank you, And it's a labor of love. I feel like,
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: I don't know how you feel, but like I just
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: feel such a sense of relief when I get the
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: big board done and the mock drafts and everything, and
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: I'm like the bar in the barn. I feel like
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: I got a pretty good sense of this class.
- 1:30:31Speaker 11: Now.
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: I just got to I just have nightmares with this
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: team that they're going to pull something like a cold
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: strange again on me. Because the Draft guide has one
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: hundred and twenty five prospects and I basically just went
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: from one to one twenty five on all those consensus
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: boards and stuff like that, and and did all those guys.
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: So this should be whoever they pick in the first
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: round should come out of this one hundred and twenty
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: five grouping. But you just you never know what then, right.
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: The question Tim has is if the best offensive tackle,
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: wide receiver, and cornerback are all available at fourteen, which
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: do you take? It looks like Evan and Mike would
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: both take the corner of Christian Gonzales from Oregon, but
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: what about the rest of you. I would normally say
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: tackle because you can't teach size, but in today's NFL,
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: cornerback and wide receiver have become integral positions to the
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: success of the team. So like, if you ask me,
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: I would take the corner, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: I mean I think if you really believe you're getting
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: a number one corner, It's just it's such a key
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: piece of this defense that I think would make everyone
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: better and really get them in position it conect.
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: Yeah, particularly in that defensive backfield. You know you lost
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: Steph mccordy. I know he's a safety, but he was
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: so integral in part in terms of communication back there.
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: So you need good players. You know, if you get
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: that number one corner, it allows Mark you know, Marcus
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: Jones can stay where he is, Jack Jones can stay
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: where he is, he can play opposite Jonathan Jones, and
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: you have a pretty good cornerback room. If you get Gonzales,
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: you know, that's that the domino effect of him helps everybody.
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. I mean there's a handful of these guys,
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: you know, at the top of the draft, but after
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: that then you're kind of getting into all right, here's
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: another rotational piece to work in, and I think they
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: need that. But I'm also not as intrigued by that
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: because it's it's just another one of these great They
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: got another defensive back that they'll move around, but it's
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: not a guy they need a guy I think on
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: the outside.
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: And those only come in the first round.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: I'm definitely starting to gravitate more and more towards the
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: corner by the day because I just think this class
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: is fantastic, and I think they'll have an opportunity at
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: fourteen to pick one of the top three or four
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: guys on the board. Whether it's Gonzales, I would throw
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: Deontay Banks's name out there from Maryland because I think
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: you know them, they zig when everybody else is zagging.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: So if the Patriots at fourteen took Banks over Joey
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: Porter Junior, I would not be surprised.
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: I'm there with you other I'm totally and I wrote it,
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: and my thing is I was doing it and I kept, like,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: you know, going back to Banks and watching it, and
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: I'm like, I like them better than Porter now, and
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: I should have him above Porter, but him and Gonzales
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: are are just the two that I've enjoyed.
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: Now, if it's crazy and there's this run on cornerbacks
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: for some reason, and let's say the Patriots had three
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: that they would take and they're all gone, I take,
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: then I take the tackle, you know.
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I just look at the Jets
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: last year with Sauce, and their defense went from a
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: good defense to maybe the best defense in the league.
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: And he just had such a great rookie season. And
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: I don't know if you're going to get that level
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: of impact out of a receiver in this draft with
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: the way that the board is. And then tackle is
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: just not one of those positions that notoriously moves that needle,
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: I know. So if I have to go with one
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: of those impact spots. I would also just say that
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: I really trust their evaluation when it comes to offensive
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: line in all seven rounds of the draft, and I'm
- 1:33:57Speaker 4: sure that they'll make a short list, and Adrian Climbing,
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: the scouting staff will make a list, and then Dante
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: will probably sign off on a few of the guys,
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: and like all of a sudden, you'll have a mic
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: on Winnu in the sixth round that's playing left tackle
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: and all this hidden gem that they found. And I
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: feel more confident in them being able to do that
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: than maybe anywhere else.
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: William writes in out of He's out of Virginia as well.
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: Let's say the Patriots have a normal draft. For example,
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: in rounds one and two, they pick consensus top players
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: at positions like tackle, corner, or wide receiver, and then
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: in later rounds Bill drafts developmental players at edge, tight end,
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: et cetera. How do we feel then, do we trust Bill? Again?
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: I mean, look, there'll be an initial rush of what
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: we think of these guys and who they draft, and
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: we feel like, oh, they drafted the guys that I
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: like and I think fit, And you'd be excited. But
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: then there's the part where we get out on the
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: field and we see what guys are out there, what
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: guys are able to stay out there, what guys are
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: able to you know, pop like some.
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: Of these rookies have right out of the get go.
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: You know, we've seen some that have, and we've also
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: seen some that like, I don't know, I mean last
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: year with with Thornton, a couple of good plays, gets hurt,
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: he's out, you know, those.
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: Kind of things.
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: So it's the proofs in the pudding for me, Like
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: I'll certainly have a reaction, and if he picks guys
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: that I like and I feel like fit, then I'll.
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: Be like, oh, this is great.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: But ultimately that doesn't mean it's going to work out.
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: We might get to the season and be like, Douce, Yeah,
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: guys all suck.
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: I think the book on Bill will be what happens
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: when they're playing, you know, it's And I just one
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: more thing, like if they could have a bad draft,
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: but if they make the playoffs and and win a
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: couple of games, nobody will care.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: And I also say, like it's it would be so
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: easy for them to just draft say Flowers and everyone
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: will be like, oh, you know, I mean, everyone will
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: be happy. And it doesn't mean that it would necessarily
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: work or that it would be the right decision. But
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: if they really just wanted to please people and inject
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: some excitement around the offense, they could just take that
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: kid at forth.
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: Then, But then it comes down to how well do
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: they win games this year?
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: That's when always take it on the field and get
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: you know, Bourne's playing over and all you know, always
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: heard you know, like then that.
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: All starts Jacket and Abba. I don't care what position
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: the Patriots select with the fourteenth pick in the upcoming
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: NFL Draft. My only hope is that the pick is
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: a playmaker, a guy who not only will start from
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: day one, but will also tilt the field in his direction,
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: who will warp the gravity in his area, who will
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: force opponents to change their game to account for him.
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: I'm not sure there's anyone.
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: In there so a receiver.
- 1:36:20Speaker 13: I like that.
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: Yeah, there's not very many guys that do that other
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: than receivers, I guess, Jon, But I think the interesting
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: thing about receivers and I got a chance to talk
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: to grow at the combine. We got a chance to
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: talk to go today, and we got a chance to
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: talk to Grow at this time last year, and all
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: three times, the way he talks about the receiver position
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: and then the way that they approach the receiver position,
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: their actions at the receiver position, I just don't seem
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: to necessarily add up to me. And I do wonder
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: if there's a little bit of disagreement on the approach
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: at that position. And I think Barth actually texted me
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: last night about Andrew Callahan report earlier in this offseason
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: that there is, you know, a disagreement internally about how
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: important is it to add receivers. And I wonder if
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: guys like Taekwon and a guy like Juju is a
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: compromise where we're spending a fifty you know, fiftieth overall
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: pick and we're paying a receiver some money in free agency.
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: But he always talks Grow always talks about receivers being
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: immediate impact players for you as an organization, and guys
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: that really changed the complexion of your offense and of
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: your team. And he he was prompted to bring up
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: teams like Miami and stuff like that, but I feel
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: like those teams are teams that he looks at and says,
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: they've really invested in those positions, and I just want
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: I would love to know what what is bill stance
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: on this and what is And I think I know
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: what Gross stances on this because he's talked about it
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: so much. But it feels to me like he he
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: sees it, like he understands that the receiver position needs
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: to be you need to have a different approach and
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: invest more capital, whether it's trade capital or salary cap
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: or high draft picks or whatever in that position. But
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: then you get to the offseason and they don't do it,
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: So obviously there's there's some internal divide there. I think
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: about how to approach that position.
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: It could be Dan of Virginia in Michigan, says. Fred
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: said earlier on the show that he started doing his
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: own draft research. Fred, does that mean your copy of
- 1:38:39Speaker 5: Our Lads finally get delivered? Just kidding, It hasn't come yet. No,
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: by the way, Really it's in the mail, I guess.
- 1:38:46Speaker 9: So.
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: You've recently discussed in the show the possibility or reality
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: of tension between Bill and the players. You've also discussed,
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: though that some of the moves of this soft season
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: may not have been at Belichick's instigation, but rather mister
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: krafts does that race the possibility of tension between Belichick
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: and mister Kraft. If there is tension, is that a
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: bigger deal than whatever tension there might be between Belichick
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: and the players? Yeah, I mean there could be. Certainly,
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: you know, Bill's unnoticed when it comes to the owner,
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: So yeah, I mean what I mean, what more do
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: you need?
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: I think it just goes back to what I said
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: earlier of like you lose football games as part of
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: an AFFL franchise, Like there's there's tension. There's tension in
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: a lot of places. I mean, it's just that's what
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: happens when you're in a hyper competitive business like this
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: and hyper competitive people, and you know, and it's it's
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: hard to you know, build this entire team and get
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: everybody on the same page. So hopefully that's what they're
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: they're doing.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: Mike says, I hate to say it, but I think
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: we all know deep down, Bill makes the decisions. He
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: will never change. He's stubborn. There is no wide receiver
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: in my opinion worth taking at number fourteen. This class
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: is deep. Twenty five to seventy five trade down grab
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: an extra pick and make sure you grab Charlie Jones
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: at the second or third round. I think think mister
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: Koseki is the new receiver, and I wouldn't be shocked
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: if Bill picks the running back from Texas in the
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: first round. I would be.
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: I would too.
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: The only thing I would say about it, though, is
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: that I think that it's a pick that could generate
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: some excitement at least, like you know if you.
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: I don't know if excitements the word I would use.
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: Well for people like you who know the composition of
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: the team, and for Johnny, you know who lives up
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: somewhere around Boston and you know, oh, the drafts is
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: this weekend.
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: Who'd they get?
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: Well, they got the best running back in the in
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: the in the league from.
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: Texas, Like whoa, whoa?
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: That sounds pretty good, you know.
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: For general fans, I think you know there's something there.
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: But I think for people who know what the league
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: is like, now what the team is like, you want.
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: Different Spi and Fresno couple draft questions. First, does anyone
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: keep track of who the best mock drafters are?
- 1:40:50Speaker 9: Like?
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: Is there a record of which specific draftnick draftnicks are
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: particularly successful at predicting who gets picked where in the
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: first couple of rounds year of the year.
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: There is somebody that does put that together that every
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: year kind of puts together a score for everybody's mock draft.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: But I do think people have mock drafts all wrong,
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: Like no one gets it right, no one gets it right.
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: I mean, Goslyn used to be pretty close.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: Yeah, But I think the point is with mock drafts
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: is more to generate discussion, and I think a lot
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: of people get way too caught up and oh yeah,
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: well they weren't right, So what's the point, you know, And.
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: That's why I mean the big board thing, I mean,
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: that's kind of why I started doing that was, you know,
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: the mocks are so specific, it's hard to like, oh,
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: I got a mock draft right. But I felt like,
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: all right, if I give myself fifty guys and I
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: can hit a few of them, then at least each
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: year I can say, look, I'm at least pointing people
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: towards the right direction of the kind of players that
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: I think that they like, that I like that that
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: I think fit. So that was my little way of
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: just trying to hold myself a little bit accountable. Of
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: course last year I hit none.
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: So yeah, I.
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: Still I'm still gonna make fun of you for not
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: having Marcus Jones on.
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: Your That's bad. No, I'm bad in that one.
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: That's the one. There's a couple for me as well.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: In twenty twenty one, I didn't I Kyle Dugger was
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: not on the board. That that really irked me. Last year,
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: Cole like forget like whatever, Like I didn't have Cold Strange, No,
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: but Kyle Dugger I should have.
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: If you like cold Strange in the first round, you're
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: lying no.
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: Somebody asked me, They're like, oh, you didn't get bar
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: More and I was. And that's like, you know, it's
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: a specific one because it's like, well, I thought he
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: was gonna go late first and I didn't think that
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: was a huge need.
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: And you know they ended up he fell and they
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: traded up. So not mad about that one.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: But like Marcus Jones, I'm like, duce Bro, what what
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: are you doing?
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: Like perfect patriot?
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: Yeah, second question from speed, does anyone assess and systematically
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: tracked team's overall drafting success? I don't mean the supposed
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: grades is signed right after the draft by Espan or whatever.
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: I mean something along the lines, but done two or
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: three years down the road.
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: Yeah, So PFF came out with this last year. I
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: want to say about the nineteen through or the eighteen
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: through twenty drafts or something like that. They twenty one
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: wasn't a part of it because it's too soon to
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: make a determination on that that draft class. But PFF
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: using I think it was like their grades or wins
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: above replacement stat or something like that. They accumulated all
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: draft you know, drafted players and how they performed for
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: their teams, and as you could probably imagine, the Patriots
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: were not very good. It was I believe at the
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: time the Chiefs and were near the top, but they did.
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: They wrote in the methodology that you know, the Chiefs
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: drafted Patrick Mahomes, so obviously like they're they're grading, and
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: you know, the Bengals with Burrow, like it's gonna skyrocket
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: the system because they have this elite player at the
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: top of the board, kind of propelling everything up. But
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: the Patriots were I want to say, twenty eighth or
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: twenty ninth in the league in the time span that
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: they used.
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: Sam in North Carolina on Jersey Mike. He says, next
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: time you get a number thirteen at spicy brown mustard,
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: you'll thank me later.
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: I love the spicy brown mustard on an Italian. Ah.
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: Oh no, I'm a honey mustard guy on an Italian. No,
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: I don't do Italian.
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: I would do I would do mayo on an Italian though,
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: Fred I know that's a no no for you, but
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: I like that tang.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: Mayo on an Italian. Then it ceases to be an Italian.
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: It is no longer an Italian, but it will still
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: be a delicious sandwich.
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: It could be depending on your palate. It could be
- 1:44:29Speaker 5: a delicious sandwich, but do not call it an Italian.
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: I think I waltzed into an Italian by accident when
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: I was a kid, and it had like the oil
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: and like just everything on it, and I was like,
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: this is a delight. I mean, there's just so much
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: going on in Italian sandwich. But then I have one
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: blow mayo and.
- 1:44:44Speaker 13: I don't like.
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: Okay, all right, all right, Mark in Tennessee. Nice to
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: be able to listen to the show today without my
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: ears being blown off by somebody screaming Alex. It's more
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: much more enjoyable today. Some episodes of Sound boar his
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: way off. I really enjoyed the show and I look
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: forward to each episode, so I just just wanted to
- 1:45:04Speaker 5: say how much he hated Paul.
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: Basically, Paul got a good question in the in the
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: mail bag this week. Somebody's raking him over the coals
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: a little bit, but he had a response, Oh.
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: Yeah, we miss him.
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: Yeah. What were they raking him over the coals?
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: Oh they're saying he wants to be a mini Felger,
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: and and then this and that.
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: That's guys, as she's got.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: Don't comfort Felger.
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: He'll get mad.
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: Oh god.
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: Jack from London, England says I've seen the latest Lance
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: Zerline mock draft and would like to get your opinions
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: on what you think of it. He has us taking
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: Anthony Richardson at fourteen and suggested us trading Mac for
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: a second round pick. I understand he's very raw, but
- 1:45:47Speaker 5: he has a much bigger upside than Mac. Just wanted
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: to hear your thoughts, Anthony Richardson.
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: I would be absolutely shocked if the Patriots had as
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: high of a great on Anthony Richardson as the media does.
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: So who's your quarterback? In the meantime, Trace mcsorly. I mean,
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: you know, he's Anthony richards Is not ready. I don't
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: think the.
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: Way that they have evaluated the quarterback position for every
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: all the evidence that we have is that they really
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: prioritize floor a lot and having guys that have our
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: NFL ready a lot. I mean, they just drafted Mac
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: Jones and Bailey Zappie in two years and both those
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: guys couldn't have more attempts, more and more experience really
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: in the college game. And obviously Mac at Alabama, but
- 1:46:33Speaker 4: Bailey Zappi in college through the ball constantly for multiple seasons.
- 1:46:40Speaker 4: So I think a guy like Anthony Richardson would be
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: totally out of their their type.
- 1:46:46Speaker 6: If this was two years ago, what do you think
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: they do?
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: Do you think? I mean, like if if they didn't
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: if they didn't have Mac, Like if this was the
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: Mac draft, you know.
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: Like they'd bring on Cam Newton.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: I'd like to seem trying to go get Bryce Young.
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: Let's see Tim Wright in quick draft question. What do
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: we think of Jalen Hyatt from Tennessee? What is his
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: range for what round he'll be taken in and do
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: we see him as a fit for the Patriots. I
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: graduated from high school with him, so I've seen almost
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: every game he's played. The dude can ball. So I
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: wondered what your thoughts were.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: Probably my least favorite receiver in the draft of them.
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: Well, there you go, Sorry, Tim, I didn't I just
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: why don't you like him?
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: Thornton, He's very gimmicky. He didn't really run an NFL
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: route tree. They run a really they run a unique
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: system at Tennessee that's not very NFL pro style, and
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: basically what they did was just find ways to get
- 1:47:39Speaker 4: him off the line of scrimmage without having to go
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: through contact and just turn it into a track meet
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: for him, which he's obviously very effective doing. But unless
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: you're gonna run it the way that Tennessee ran it,
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: it's going to be very difficult to mimic the things
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: that he was doing at Tennessee. And he's got four
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: to four speed like fast, but he is not. He's
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: not electric fast. I don't know why. I think putting
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: him in Taekwon on the team together is very very
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: redundant as well. So yeah, all across the board.
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: Ye earlier we were talking about Gerard Mayo in his
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: role in matt In Bridgeton, Maine poses this theory, and
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: he says, if I don't read the email, that means
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: I agree with his theory, and if I do read
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: the email, that means I don't agree with it. So
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: I'm gonna read it. But his theory is that Mayo
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: is not being pegged for the next head coach, but
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: rather for the next team president. And so he goes
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: on to explain. But he's saying that Robert Kraft will eventually,
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: you know, step aside for whatever reason, Jonathan will elevate
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: to CEO, and then Gerard Mayo slips in his team president.
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: That's an interesting theory. I don't I don't know the
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: dynamics of.
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: All that, but yeah, and he's says that the reason,
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: he says Jonathan is less involved he wants to be
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: less involved in operating the franchise. His reasoning is Jonathan's
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: now sixty, has more of his mother's disposition in philanthropy
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: and all that.
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: And this is where I confirm it.
- 1:49:18Speaker 5: Now, Jonathan loves doing what he does. He's a business
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: guy first and foremost. He's not a philanthropist, although he
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: does do that obviously, But he he's always going to
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: have a hand in running this thing. I don't think
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: he'll ever see that. Now. That doesn't mean he couldn't
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: have a president, and he would be the CEO and
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: could beat Gerard Mayo, but not for those reasons. Not
- 1:49:40Speaker 5: because he wants to not run the business. No, he
- 1:49:43Speaker 5: wants to run the business. But it's interesting.
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: You know, what does a team president do?
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: Is that more that's not as much football stuff.
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: Though it varies from team to team. On some teams
- 1:49:53Speaker 5: the team president really does call the shots. On other teams,
- 1:49:57Speaker 5: the team president is more less football and more everything else.
- 1:50:01Speaker 13: You know.
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: I got to be honest, I think Gerd Mayo has
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: zero interest in being the team president the right of
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: Patriots zero.
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: It's he's a football I mean he played, he's a
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: he's a junkie.
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, you know. So it just depends on the
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: definition of team. You know, every team is different and
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: how they view those roles.
- 1:50:23Speaker 11: You know.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: I guess maybe the thought is more of that like
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: John Elway role where or you know Cam Neely with
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: the Bruins.
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: He got a players guy. Yeah that's sort of.
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: Running the football operations, but maybe has a GM under him.
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: That's actually on the road and doing all of the
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: nitty gritty.
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: But and so in that case, the GM is a
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: different title, you know, different responsibility.
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: I think he wants to coach.
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: Yeah, Johann writes in He's from Germany. What's your opinion
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: on Hunter Henry? Will he have a comeback year this
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: year after last year's setback? In his first year he
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: was basically one of the most reliable short yardish targets,
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: especially in the red zone for mac Jones two touchdowns
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: versus nine touchdowns in year one. And he says, you
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: went to Munich last year. Fred, it's the whole crew
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: joining you this year for the international game. And will
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: there be any events? Hope to see you this year.
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: Wherever we play, there will be events. So we are
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: going to play. Don't know if it's going to be
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: Munich or Frankfurt, but wherever we do play, there will
- 1:51:28Speaker 5: be lots of events. So what do we think of
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: Hunter Henry this year?
- 1:51:33Speaker 6: I think he'll be I think he'll bounce back.
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: I mean, I just think in a you know, a
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: well designed offense, he'll probably return to the red zone threat.
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: But I mean, I think my bigger question is how
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: do you balance him in Kasiki and you know, not
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: that I feel that a blocking tight end is a necessity,
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: but you know, those guys aren't going to block. And
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: I just I just think it's a weakness on this
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: team that they don't really have, you know, a guy
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: that can that can do both. And I mean at
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: times last year I felt like John Eyuan Hunter were
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: a little bit overwhelm. I mean, I think Connor Henry
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: even said kind of as much.
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: He felt that he improved.
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: But don't you think that's like a fifth round or
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: sixth round pick and they'll get a guy.
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: Well, I think, oh no, and I do, and I
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: think this year, I think they can get that kind
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: of guy to develop behind them and then you know,
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: maybe next year then you have a well rounded guy.
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: But they're you know, they're both kind of more in
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: that f tight end kind of move guy mole that
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: founder's got good size. I think he'll be fine this year.
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: But I just I do wonder if they're a little
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: bit limited with what Kisiki and he are.
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: I would like them to address tight end pretty early
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: in this draft. I just look at this draft and
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: tight end corner edge like those are such good position
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: groups in this draft, deep the talented groups that the
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: tight end you get in the third round this year
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: is not going to be there in the third round
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: next year because the class isn't going to be as
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: good and isn't going to be as deep. So I
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: look at this tight end class and would love to
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: see in that third or fourth round range. We've thrown
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: out a bunch of names, you know, Tucker Kraft, Luke
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: Scoon Maker, one of those guys that can block a
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: little bit. Maybe he has a little bit more blocking
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: chops than what they have. But looking at twenty twenty
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: four and beyond, can then step up and be starting
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: tight ends for you moving forward because those two guys,
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: Henry and Kasiki are one year, one year and out
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: right now.
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: Paul Rainville writes in He's from South Amboy, New Jersey,
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: and there's a lot of amboys in New Jersey. Yeah,
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: this Perth dam Boy, this South d and Boyer.
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: So have you heard have you heard Derek Parrish as
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: a Patriots target late in the draft. I've seen him
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: connected to the Patriots following the James Devlin pathway as
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: a defensive end that transitions to fullback in the NFL.
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: He's super athletic prospect who could fill gaps on both
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: sides of the ball. I think he would stand out
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: as a Day three player. The Patriots would love well
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: that Derek Parrish. Have you gotten that deep yet?
- 1:53:48Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: So Derek Parrish shows at the Shrine Bowl with the Patriots.
- 1:53:52Speaker 4: He was actually on the East team. The Patriots on
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: the West team had Jack Coletto from Oregon State who
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: is the Hornig Award winner. Marcus Jones won the Horneig
- 1:53:59Speaker 4: Award last year. The Patriots drafted and both of those
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: guys have played offense and defense. Both of them played
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: full back slash tight end as a kind of I
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: think Parish is more of that James Devilin type of fullback,
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: whereas Kletta is more like a Kyle Yuschek style fullback
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: that's maybe a little bit more of a move piece.
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: But both of those guys can block. I thought Koletto
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: looked better as a receiver in Vegas a little bit
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: more further along with his hands and the fluidity of
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: his routes. But Parish had at Houston last year. I
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: want to say he had eight sacks rushing the passer
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: on defense, so he can play both ways. I think
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: both of those guys is end of the draft six
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: to seventh round, maybe even UDFA signings. That neither one
- 1:54:39Speaker 4: of them was invited to the combine, which was kind
- 1:54:41Speaker 4: of a snub in my opinion for both guys, Like
- 1:54:44Speaker 4: how do you not invite the Horny Award winner to
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: the combine? Like that's ridiculous. Most versatile player in college football.
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: I don't know how that guy's not at the combine.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: But both of those guys is in that with that
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: seventh round pick, or maybe as a priority UDFA would
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: fit here.
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: Coming to the end of the show, so we got
- 1:55:00Speaker 5: to take care of some important things. Rob in San
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: Diego via Connecticut says, is oil, vinegar and salt and
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: pepper necessary for an Italian sub to be an Italian sub?
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: I say yes. I think the meats can be somewhat interchangeable,
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: but not the oil, vinegar with salt and pepper. I agree,
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: you have to have those things. Jack says, no, male
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: on an Italian sub, you must must must put oil
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: and vinegar, Come on, man, So I agree with that.
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: I gotta shout out the Godmother Sandwich at Bay Cities
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: in Santa Monica, which is the like, that's one you
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: don't even you don't even tell them what you want.
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: Just give me the Godmother with the works. That's the
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: best Italian I don't it's officially in Italian.
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: Do you ever go there?
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: Pit Bay Cities in Santa Monica when you live there?
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: Sounds familiar, but I don't know if I ever made
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: it there.
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: It's a good one. I'm sure there'll be a listener
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: writing in about how good that place is. But that's
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: a good one.
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: Let's see Rob and Rot. Now we already read that one.
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: This is too long, all right, Well we'll close out
- 1:56:02Speaker 5: with a quick who am I game? Brian from Swansea?
- 1:56:06Speaker 5: These are Bill Belichick draft era? Who am I game?
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: All answers are players drafted by the Patriots under Bill Belichick.
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: Ready appropriate topic. I'm one of two players drafted in
- 1:56:20Speaker 5: the Bill Belichick era to have double digit career interceptions
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: and sacks. One of two.
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: Oh, that's a good question. Interceptions and.
- 1:56:32Speaker 5: Okay, I've been teammates with Tom Brady on two different teams.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: Ok So he has to have been Logan Ryan Logan
- 1:56:40Speaker 5: Ryan is correct? Ding Ding Ding? Who am I I'm
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: one of two players drafted in the Bill Belichick era
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: to have been selected in the sixth round and named
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: first team All Pro at least once during my career.
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: Six round not Tom Brady. Uh, I don't know.
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: Sixth round. I earned a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots,
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: though I never played in a regular a pro season
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: game for the team. Huh wow, all Pro not just
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: Pro Bowl. My first name is the same as the
- 1:57:19Speaker 5: last name of a Grammy winning R and B singer
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: who was once dated a Patriots Pro Football Hall of
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: Fame running back.
- 1:57:27Speaker 3: Oh that's oh god, come on, oh god, it's Curtis Martin's.
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: Right, Tony Braxton Braxton Burios. That's right.
- 1:57:38Speaker 6: I mean you got me there?
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: First team All Pro? I guess.
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: I guess.
- 1:57:43Speaker 4: Also, I don't think he was a was her first
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: team All Pro? Is he a Pro Bowler?
- 1:57:47Speaker 5: Our guy was?
- 1:57:51Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:57:52Speaker 5: Like I said, I'm the only player drafted in the
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: Bill Belichick era from a New England college to be
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: named to the Pro Bowl. Next, I snapped the ball
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: to two different quarterbacks with a combined four hundred and
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: thirty seven wins. Copan Dan Copanuce correct On fired today
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: one more one more. I'm the only first round pick
- 1:58:18Speaker 5: drafted in the Bill Belichick era from a Big ten college.
- 1:58:24Speaker 5: No first round, first round.
- 1:58:28Speaker 6: It wasn't that bad, Evan.
- 1:58:29Speaker 5: I scored the first touchdown and the Patriots lost to
- 1:58:32Speaker 5: the New York Giants in the Super Bowl forty two.
- 1:58:37Speaker 5: Oh god, I scored the first touchdown in that game,
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: the second one Big ten in my rookie season. Corey
