- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:29Good morning from the Chicken Coop, still cold, still
- 0:32freezing? My butt off.
- 0:34Can't take it. Hopefully we're almost out of
- 0:38this. So today we are talking about
- 0:42how you define success in the past year.
- 0:46So when you start your debriefing your year and you're
- 0:48looking at it, how are you defining?
- 0:51The success is you had? Are you truly looking at all the
- 0:54little things, as well as the big things or you still not even
- 0:57allowing yourself, the big ones and just sitting there and
- 0:59saying, well, when This happens, then I'll be able to celebrate
- 1:03or, you know, letting it go so far that you never actually get
- 1:07a win. If there's one thing that I
- 1:10consistently see among many, many of my clients and the other
- 1:14coaches that I regularly converse with say the same
- 1:17thing, how you know, what do we need to do?
- 1:19How do we get our clients to really celebrate the smaller
- 1:22wins right along with the bigger ones?
- 1:25It's the essential question that none of us can really do much
- 1:29about until you. Decide that you want to do it.
- 1:31So for me I will tell you I have broken down my process of how I
- 1:36define success. Because what's so important to
- 1:38me is that I do have successes along the way every day, because
- 1:42if I don't I know it will take me out quicker than lightning.
- 1:46I refer to myself as a self-proclaimed gold star girl
- 1:51and I genuinely mean it. I want the gold stars.
- 1:54I have sticker books, I reward myself with stickers, I use
- 1:59little gold stars right up. Up to big, giant glorious
- 2:02stickers, that I buy. Always felt like my teachers in
- 2:04school were very stingy with the stickers.
- 2:06So I go ahead and I by myself stickers.
- 2:09Now, am I put them into my journals?
- 2:11I put them into all my little booklets that I keep track of
- 2:15things in and it makes me feel very very accomplished when I
- 2:19know that I'm giving myself stickers.
- 2:22But really the question is, what am I assigning those stickers
- 2:25to? So like how do you define
- 2:28success for the year when you sit and you break down?
- 2:30And you say, okay well, what did I accomplish this year?
- 2:33The tricky part for most people is if you have not been doing
- 2:37this all year long where you start to get stuck as it's the
- 2:40end of the year and I could say to you, okay, tell me what
- 2:43success is. Did you have this year?
- 2:45You're going to only remember the really tremendously big
- 2:47things because you have recency bias or something that just
- 2:51happened. Recently you're not going to
- 2:53remember all the little tiny ones.
- 2:54You're not going to remember every time that you did all the
- 2:57laundry or that you got the house organized before your
- 3:01weekend or that you did all your shopping and paid your bills.
- 3:04Way ahead of the time, they were supposed to be done, you're just
- 3:07not going to remember it. You it's just does not how the
- 3:10human brain works. So you have to have a plan put
- 3:15together a strategy. See she agrees that you have to
- 3:19have a strategy for how you're going to track?
- 3:21All that, so that you can have that sense of accomplishment not
- 3:26at the end of every year, not at the end of every month, not at
- 3:30the end of every week, but at the end of every day and say,
- 3:33okay, what are my accomplishments?
- 3:35Then you record them somewhere and you have them ready for
- 3:38yourself. So you can go back and this is
- 3:41why we're having this debrief. Because if you've never done
- 3:43that before, you're going to feel the pain of it right now,
- 3:46you're going to feel the pain of looking back at the year and
- 3:48going, well, crap, this sucks. I don't have this.
- 3:51Us down. I don't even know what did I
- 3:53accomplish this year? And most of the time because
- 3:55we're hardwired to look for the problems will say, well clearly
- 3:58I didn't accomplish crap this year.
- 4:01All I did was, you know, make it through the year.
- 4:03I'm exhausted. I don't know.
- 4:05What did I do? Did I meet any of my goals?
- 4:08And we don't have a good strategy.
- 4:10So what's really important is that you understand one, you're
- 4:15going to sit and really work hard at this to figure out what
- 4:17we're my wins. How did I define success for the
- 4:20year and you're going to Get some sort of General debrief,
- 4:24because most of the most likely you didn't, if you did do it
- 4:26fantastic. Add up all your wins.
- 4:29Look at it celebrate because you should be celebrating.
- 4:32I know I'm going to be when I look at everything, at the end
- 4:34of the weekend. I'm going to be absolutely
- 4:37celebrating and feeling amazing about the stuff that I got
- 4:40accomplished. And I'll tell you A lot of it
- 4:42was laundry. A lot of it was small projects,
- 4:45a lot of it was things that most people wouldn't even notice, but
- 4:48I think things like that or wins because it makes you It just
- 4:52makes you feel better in your day.
- 4:55I can't tell you how many clients I have that.
- 4:56Say to me laundry is such a problem.
- 4:59It's always on my bed. I feel like I never stopped.
- 5:02Well, guess what? That's because it's laundry.
- 5:03It never goes away. We will never end up with no
- 5:06laundry. That's just the way it is
- 5:08because you're wearing something.
- 5:09So, no matter by virtue of as long as you have clothes on and
- 5:13you're not a nudist, guess what happens?
- 5:14At the end of every day, there's more laundry.
- 5:17So you can't get upset by those things.
- 5:19You just have to celebrate the wins that you do.
- 5:21With it, if that makes sense. So, really take a hard look and
- 5:26say, if I haven't got a way to define success for this year,
- 5:30then that means, for next year, we have to have a strategy to
- 5:34define the successes and write them all down every day.
- 5:38No matter how small they are, write them all down.
- 5:41It works every single time, I promise you, one of my friends
- 5:45actually saves all of her to-do list and she Clips them together
- 5:50in a big bulldog clip. And by the end of the year, she
- 5:52counts up all of her items and she can look at how many things
- 5:55he's accomplished, can you imagine saving all your to-do
- 5:58list now for me, I like putting all my wins in a journal because
- 6:02I don't always think of my to-do list with little wins, but she
- 6:06has really taken it to a whole new level and I love that.
- 6:09So I'm actually contemplating do I want to save all my to-do list
- 6:12for the year because that may be a really great way to do it, but
- 6:17that's what's going to be fun about figuring out what I'm
- 6:19doing this year or my planning this week.
- 6:21And, but whatever works for you, looking at how you define
- 6:25success for 2022, is going to help you how to define success
- 6:30for 2023. All right, my friends.
- 6:32I will see you tomorrow and hopefully, I won't be so cold
- 6:35with Long John's on. Alright, I hope you guys have a
- 6:38blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:39Bye.
