Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello. My name is Nick Thomas. I play guitar and
- 0:03Speaker 1: sing in the Spell Canvas beautiful.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Thanks so much.
- 0:06Speaker 3: How does it feel to be bringing One Fell Swoop
- 0:09Speaker 3: to Australian fans nearly twenty years after its release?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Gosh, it is amazing to be bringing this finally to Australia.
- 0:18Speaker 1: First of all, we've never been, but also to do
- 0:22Speaker 1: it celebrating twenty years of One Fell Swoop is mind blowing.
- 0:27Speaker 1: To get to do this for even a year and
- 0:30Speaker 1: call music your career for a year, even or even
- 0:33Speaker 1: six months is a marvel in it of itself. So
- 0:37Speaker 1: I feel very honored, very fortunate to get to have
- 0:40Speaker 1: done it for two decades plus now. Very crazy, so
- 0:45Speaker 1: so so excited.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Oh awesome. Can you believe it's been that long?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Luck?
- 0:48Speaker 3: I remember when like that album came out and I
- 0:52Speaker 3: was a teenager, and I can't believe that was so
- 0:54Speaker 3: long ago.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's crazy, it's mind blowing. But I just like, yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I still I have no concept, no way to wrap
- 1:02Speaker 1: my head around it. Even just playing here in the
- 1:05Speaker 1: States and playing a show to see people come out
- 1:08Speaker 1: after this long and like know the lyrics and everything
- 1:13Speaker 1: and sing along and just it blows my mind still.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I never have gotten over that.
- 1:17Speaker 3: So yeah, no, no, only imagine And this is a
- 1:21Speaker 3: special co headlining tool with the Juliana Theory. What does
- 1:24Speaker 3: it mean to share this anniversary tool with a band
- 1:26Speaker 3: that also had such a formative album.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah, I'm so excited. I mean, I grew up,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you know, I was just in high school, just getting
- 1:36Speaker 1: done with high school when Emotion Is Dead by Juliana
- 1:39Speaker 1: Theory came out, and so this record is wildly meaningful
- 1:43Speaker 1: to me as well. We recently, maybe four years ago
- 1:47Speaker 1: or so, had Brett and Josh Juliana Theory open up
- 1:51Speaker 1: acoustic for one of our tours and that was like
- 1:53Speaker 1: one of the coolest things ever for me, for all
- 1:56Speaker 1: of us, but it was it's so cool to just
- 1:59Speaker 1: be pals with them now and they have I mean
- 2:02Speaker 1: they have twenty five years they're celebrating on this or
- 2:05Speaker 1: twenty five brother on this record, So just it's unbelievable.
- 2:09Speaker 1: It's such a cool pairing. I'm so stoked to do it.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it is really such an awesome, like the
- 2:14Speaker 3: perfect pairing, I reckon. Yeah, And what can Australian fans
- 2:19Speaker 3: expect from these shows? Are you playing One fil Swoop
- 2:22Speaker 3: back to front. Are you playing some newer albums?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Sure? Yeah, so we're gonna do We're just gonna do
- 2:27Speaker 1: One Fell Swoop as it is front of back, like
- 2:31Speaker 1: we think it's kind of like, you know, we spent
- 2:34Speaker 1: a lot, although I might change other albums, I think
- 2:37Speaker 1: for the sequencing when we were making One Fell Swoop,
- 2:40Speaker 1: we chose very specific. Everyone does, every band an artist does.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They want the sequence of the songs to be a journey,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, in a ride, and that's exactly what we
- 2:52Speaker 1: like the most, you know, is the way that it is.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So we're gonna play that front to back and then
- 2:58Speaker 1: hopefully you know, the album with Self Conclusion, which is
- 3:01Speaker 1: just a solo singer songwriter tepe Vibe song, and so
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'm just gonna do that. But then I think we'll
- 3:09Speaker 1: have the rest of the guys come back out and
- 3:11Speaker 1: just rip through two to three more bangers. I would
- 3:13Speaker 1: like to think we can get in there, so.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, we could awesome.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yeah, And you guys you just mentioned you've never been
- 3:20Speaker 3: to Australia.
- 3:21Speaker 2: What are you most looking forward to playing here?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, like like which venue or just like.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I guess any since you haven't been here, I guess
- 3:30Speaker 3: what are you most excited about Australia.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think honestly, like I know, it's like, I mean,
- 3:39Speaker 1: there's so many like tropes, you know, I mean obviously
- 3:42Speaker 1: like with like the koalas and kangaroos and everything, and
- 3:47Speaker 1: like that's awesome and I would love that. I just
- 3:49Speaker 1: want to. I definitely think I would love to see
- 3:53Speaker 1: in person. The Opera House would be so beautiful. I
- 3:56Speaker 1: just like I'm a nerd for for just beautiful venues
- 4:01Speaker 1: in that way, just being as it's like I've been
- 4:03Speaker 1: half of my life now just experiencing good and bad venues,
- 4:07Speaker 1: But to see something so beautiful as that place and
- 4:13Speaker 1: just such amazing stuff is done there, that would be
- 4:15Speaker 1: really amazing. I'm excited for that. Other than that, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: just want to like meet the people. And like you know,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I was talking, I was just talking about girlfriend and
- 4:25Speaker 1: I was I was like, I'm not going to mention
- 4:29Speaker 1: it in any of these interviews, but I'm such a massive,
- 4:33Speaker 1: for whatever reason, massive below Deck fan. And there's like
- 4:37Speaker 1: a and this like reality show with the staff of
- 4:42Speaker 1: a luxury book. Yeah that gets charted, and I mean
- 4:46Speaker 1: it's horrible but it's beautifully awesome and horrible. But there's
- 4:49Speaker 1: a there's a captain, Captain Jason, and it's on the
- 4:53Speaker 1: down Under seasons and he's like so cool and I've
- 4:57Speaker 1: really wanted to know. I guess turning this back into
- 5:00Speaker 1: a question to you, do you it's just like a
- 5:03Speaker 1: popular person or it's just like a clown in your
- 5:05Speaker 1: because he's so cool, or do you even know what
- 5:08Speaker 1: I'm talking about?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Look, I know the series, and I know that there's
- 5:11Speaker 3: an Australian or a couple of Australians on this, but
- 5:14Speaker 3: I cannot tell you about this captain.
- 5:16Speaker 2: But well, I'm just going to try and hook up
- 5:18Speaker 2: a meeting with you guys.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I'm just gonna I'm just gonna believe that he's a
- 5:22Speaker 1: national treasure to you guys, because he's he's amazing and
- 5:26Speaker 1: I love it. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come
- 5:29Speaker 1: and do your interview. Other than that, I don't really
- 5:34Speaker 1: know that there's I just want to see the country
- 5:38Speaker 1: and the cities, you know, Like I'm so so very
- 5:41Speaker 1: excited just for that.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, oh beautiful. Now I have to look up this.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Dude and see, Yeah, Captain Captain Jason. He's the main
- 5:48Speaker 1: he's the only captain on the down and this is
- 5:51Speaker 1: so embarrassing. I don't know, it's just like, I mean,
- 5:55Speaker 1: reality TV is what it is. But I'm not really
- 5:58Speaker 1: I'm not very versed in a lot of it, but
- 6:00Speaker 1: for some reason that show is just like I just
- 6:03Speaker 1: love watching the chaos of that show. But yeah, Captain Jason,
- 6:07Speaker 1: he's the coolest Australian I've that I would love to meet.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Uh.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's that's far.
- 6:13Speaker 2: That's awesome. That is so cool.
- 6:14Speaker 3: No, I know what you mean about reality TV. Look,
- 6:17Speaker 3: I love to hate on it, but I actually watch
- 6:19Speaker 3: a lot of it just to.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, it's the best to now material.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Absolutely, And looking back on one film, sweet, what stands
- 6:29Speaker 3: out to you most about the writing or recording process?
- 6:33Speaker 1: You know, I think the standouts for writing and recording
- 6:38Speaker 1: one thus Swoop. We're definitely like I would I would
- 6:43Speaker 1: say that, I would like to say that I have
- 6:47Speaker 1: a ton of you know, memories, but I mean it
- 6:50Speaker 1: was twenty years ago and plus you know, almost at
- 6:55Speaker 1: this point. But you know, honestly, I think it was
- 6:58Speaker 1: just like my it was our first time in a
- 7:01Speaker 1: real recording studio and we were there with Ed Rose,
- 7:04Speaker 1: our producer and engineer and mixer. And it's at Black
- 7:09Speaker 1: Lives Studios in Kansas, which is where the Get Up
- 7:11Speaker 1: Kids it's. They were partners in that business. And so
- 7:14Speaker 1: I remember like Ryan Pope, the drummer from the Get
- 7:17Speaker 1: Up Kids still today, the originally the same drummer, like
- 7:20Speaker 1: he was a studio manager at the time, and so
- 7:22Speaker 1: we would I would be we would wake up and
- 7:24Speaker 1: get down there and start going at like ten thirty
- 7:27Speaker 1: or eleven. And I remember recording guitar to Nimera what song?
- 7:33Speaker 1: And he walked in like we'd already met him. And
- 7:36Speaker 1: I was trying not to fan out too hard, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 1: because I grew up with the Get Up Kids and
- 7:40Speaker 1: that's just such a pivotal important band for all of
- 7:44Speaker 1: this genre. And and I remember him coming in and
- 7:48Speaker 1: he was like, how's it going today, boys, And he
- 7:50Speaker 1: kind of gave me like the shoulder of the rub
- 7:51Speaker 1: and I was like, oh my god, this is am
- 7:54Speaker 1: I like, I was like, try to be cool, like
- 7:56Speaker 1: be cool. And I was like, hey, hey, dude, you
- 7:59Speaker 1: know likes just it was not it was not cool.
- 8:02Speaker 1: But I remember a little moments like that and and
- 8:05Speaker 1: him coming up him like really vibing with us and
- 8:07Speaker 1: coming up and having some drinks after one of our
- 8:10Speaker 1: days of sessions, and it's just I loved the process
- 8:15Speaker 1: of creating and I very much learned how to do
- 8:19Speaker 1: that in this during recording this record, and you know,
- 8:23Speaker 1: the studio side of the thing versus the live performance
- 8:26Speaker 1: is vastly different, and this is this album was my
- 8:30Speaker 1: first step into that and our first step into that
- 8:33Speaker 1: as a band, and it was It means so much
- 8:35Speaker 1: in that way.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I can only imagine like when you're sort
- 8:39Speaker 3: of starting out and then.
- 8:40Speaker 2: You get someone like that walking and you're trying.
- 8:43Speaker 1: To just be cool. You're just trying to be cool
- 8:46Speaker 1: and you end up being way more awkward than you're
- 8:50Speaker 1: trying to be, but at least in my case. But no,
- 8:53Speaker 1: he's I mean, he's still a dear friend today. And
- 8:55Speaker 1: that's just an awesome thing to to get to meet
- 8:59Speaker 1: these people, because I always like to feel and think
- 9:02Speaker 1: that you don't ever stop becoming a fan, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 1: like yourself, even though you may have you may have
- 9:07Speaker 1: had successes and failures and whatever, and maybe you're even
- 9:11Speaker 1: jaded or something within this industry, which is very easy
- 9:14Speaker 1: to become. But I'm still so inspired and such a
- 9:18Speaker 1: fan of so many artists, even new artists there are
- 9:22Speaker 1: coming out, so it's just always be a fan.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, speaking more on that, you guys have toured
- 9:27Speaker 2: with some major bands. Do you have a certain.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Memory with one of those bands that you'd like to
- 9:34Speaker 3: share with us that kind of steaks man?
- 9:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Man, there's a lot. There's so many, you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I think, uh, I mean, just like you know when
- 9:47Speaker 1: you if it's in particular, there there are other bands,
- 9:51Speaker 1: like you know, I mean, so many bands were toward us,
- 9:53Speaker 1: but like there was a in particular like a regarding
- 9:58Speaker 1: these large large bands. We toured with the Goo Goo
- 10:02Speaker 1: Dolls and we did a tour with One Republic before
- 10:06Speaker 1: One Republic not before, but like they were on their way.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Their first album had just come out and we toured
- 10:14Speaker 1: with them, and I mean, Ryan Tedder has come become
- 10:17Speaker 1: like one of the most prolific pop songwriters, like of
- 10:21Speaker 1: our time anyway, and it was just so incredible to
- 10:24Speaker 1: watch them perform every night. But I do remember, I mean,
- 10:27Speaker 1: it's just so nice and so down to earth and
- 10:31Speaker 1: the same the same goes for Johnny and the Guys
- 10:33Speaker 1: and Google Dolls. But I remember the Ryan Tedder from
- 10:36Speaker 1: One Republic. I was just feeling a little loose that
- 10:40Speaker 1: night or whatever, maybe had a few drinks, and I
- 10:43Speaker 1: was like, I'm gonna ask him to just listen to
- 10:46Speaker 1: my demos, like I have some new demos, and like
- 10:49Speaker 1: he was like absolutely after the show, and I was like,
- 10:52Speaker 1: he's not gonna. He's like gonna, He's gonna like play
- 10:55Speaker 1: the show and go right to the bus, and I
- 10:57Speaker 1: forget about it, and I'm like whatever, and he comes
- 11:00Speaker 1: into the green room and he's like, let's go, and
- 11:02Speaker 1: he and he has a bottle of like Johnny Walker black,
- 11:06Speaker 1: like he has like Scotch, and I'm like Scotch, Like
- 11:09Speaker 1: what what is this that? You know, like fancy Scotch
- 11:12Speaker 1: left and he's like, let's go. I've got my laptop.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I was like yeah, absolutely, And just he gave me
- 11:18Speaker 1: the most incredible notes. Just moments like that where your
- 11:22Speaker 1: friendships are formed and like you have a moment and
- 11:25Speaker 1: a connection with the you know, because we're all regardless
- 11:28Speaker 1: of genre or level of success, when we're out there
- 11:31Speaker 1: on the road together, like we are literally in it together.
- 11:34Speaker 1: But even if you're not on the same tour and
- 11:37Speaker 1: maybe you have tours follow it's just whoever's touring artists
- 11:40Speaker 1: wise and crew wise, Like it's a it's a small
- 11:44Speaker 1: ilk of people that do it and have done it
- 11:47Speaker 1: for and do it for a long time, and so
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's like we're all in it together and it's just
- 11:53Speaker 1: such a beautiful way to connect. I you know, I
- 11:56Speaker 1: love when we're able to do that and become have
- 11:59Speaker 1: experiences and share experiences, become friends with these these other artists.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, truly amazing. It's funny.
- 12:06Speaker 3: A lot of the people I interviewed, they say, like
- 12:08Speaker 3: it really is all about like when you're out on tour,
- 12:11Speaker 3: about who you're touring with, because, as you said, like
- 12:14Speaker 3: those are the only other people that are you know
- 12:18Speaker 3: and understanding.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Yeah, crazy, Yeah, it's it's it's wild. It's you're a
- 12:23Speaker 1: bit of a it's a bit of a platoon vibe,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you know, like you're because you're not really in like
- 12:30Speaker 1: you're not living like a you're like a doing this
- 12:32Speaker 1: nomadic thing, this nomadic routine thing with with a specific
- 12:38Speaker 1: group of people crew and other touring bands, and it's
- 12:41Speaker 1: just it becomes a family, and so you have to
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know, there are times that you don't get along
- 12:46Speaker 1: maybe with them, but for the most part, it's an
- 12:50Speaker 1: incredible thing to get to do on that side, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you know, aside from the shows, but like to make
- 12:56Speaker 1: that connection with them the touring party.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, well said. And you briefly mentioned before
- 13:03Speaker 3: as well that you lack some new artists. Who are
- 13:06Speaker 3: you listening to a lot of at the moment?
- 13:08Speaker 1: Oh boy, yeah, I really you know who I'm listening
- 13:15Speaker 1: to recently, just not even maybe recently, probably the last
- 13:20Speaker 1: I found this artist of three years ago. His name
- 13:25Speaker 1: is Nick as Well, which is Coolhi obviously like that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: But his project is called Medium Build and he is
- 13:32Speaker 1: he is he calls that he he's wasn't from Alaska,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but that's where he started. Medium Build was in Alaska,
- 13:41Speaker 1: which is just kind of rare. There's not a lot
- 13:44Speaker 1: of music that comes out of there. But he moved
- 13:46Speaker 1: out of there, moved from Alaska and just his I
- 13:50Speaker 1: mean he's got just like his catalog is is good,
- 13:54Speaker 1: the old stuff. But it just to watch him involved
- 13:57Speaker 1: in like to where he is now. I mean, he's
- 14:00Speaker 1: he's massive over here now and it's I've seen him
- 14:04Speaker 1: a couple of times and he just changed my Like
- 14:07Speaker 1: iod I stood in line after one of his shows
- 14:10Speaker 1: here here in Pittsburgh to wait to talk to him,
- 14:13Speaker 1: like did the whole thing, you know what I mean? Like, yeah,
- 14:16Speaker 1: that I just I've been on the other side of
- 14:18Speaker 1: that for so long. And I was like, I'm waiting
- 14:22Speaker 1: to talk to him. And I met him and I
- 14:24Speaker 1: like was tearing up and stuff, and I was like,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I was like, you you hit whatever? Like you you Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 1: like you reignited my passion for like writing music, and
- 14:34Speaker 1: you're He's an incredible songwriter. It's unbelievable what he's able
- 14:37Speaker 1: to do. But I really love him medium built. But
- 14:42Speaker 1: you know, I other than that, just like I mean, gosh,
- 14:46Speaker 1: what else. I kind of I do a lot of
- 14:47Speaker 1: podcasts because I'm always I'm always writing and hearing other
- 14:51Speaker 1: music in my head, so I I kind of more
- 14:54Speaker 1: music gets distracting to the writing process. But this band
- 15:00Speaker 1: Bill Murray is unbelievable. They're so good. It's not the
- 15:04Speaker 1: act well it's named after that. Yeah, it's like it's
- 15:08Speaker 1: like b I L m U R I. It's incredible.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I can't even like, I don't know how to describe it.
- 15:15Speaker 1: It's like it's just amazing. I'll just I'll leave it
- 15:18Speaker 1: at that. It's incredible. They're they're amazing, but a bunch
- 15:23Speaker 1: of other stuff, But those are the two standouts for
- 15:25Speaker 1: this moment.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And what genres were they those two bands?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Like I think Medium Build would be more of like
- 15:31Speaker 1: a singer songwriter, but like a singer songwriter, but like
- 15:35Speaker 1: with it's not just acoustic. He rarely plays acoustic, but
- 15:39Speaker 1: it's a singer songwriter vibe a little more chill with
- 15:42Speaker 1: very amazing, introspective, unique lyrics. And then Bill Murray is
- 15:49Speaker 1: like Bill Murray is like like pop Nashville writing like
- 15:56Speaker 1: Nashville like pop writing, the way that they write the
- 16:00Speaker 1: melodies and the songs, but put to like extremely heavy
- 16:06Speaker 1: like melodic like pop punk like with like like chugs
- 16:12Speaker 1: and stuff. I mean, they're they're so incredible. I don't
- 16:15Speaker 1: know if they've been over I would think they have
- 16:19Speaker 1: been over there. This last year was massive for them.
- 16:22Speaker 1: They just kind of really blew up. But they're incredible.
- 16:26Speaker 1: You should definitely check that out.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Oh Will, that does sound amazing, Gee, super good.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Do you have any pre show rituals or routines, especially
- 16:35Speaker 3: for a tool like this that's both nostalgic and high energy.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, you know, I like to I definitely
- 16:45Speaker 1: need like myself, I need like a little like chill time,
- 16:50Speaker 1: even if the guys are around. Maybe I'm just kind
- 16:52Speaker 1: of like I kind of turn off my social anything
- 16:55Speaker 1: and I just like kind of find myself and set
- 16:59Speaker 1: whatever anchor emotionally and spiritually that I need to. But
- 17:05Speaker 1: after that, it's kind of like whatever. I you know,
- 17:09Speaker 1: sometimes just a lot of stretching and stuff because I'm
- 17:11Speaker 1: getting older too, so just like I don't want to
- 17:14Speaker 1: pull anything, so I'm stretching a lot. But then you know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: also a little apple pie moonshine for me and Evan,
- 17:23Speaker 1: our guitar player, just to kind of get things loose
- 17:26Speaker 1: and going. But the biggest thing is we do a
- 17:29Speaker 1: huddle right before where we it's like a whole thing.
- 17:33Speaker 1: We have like our right hand in and are in
- 17:36Speaker 1: our thumb blake is connected, and then the left hand
- 17:39Speaker 1: is on the guy next to you. It's just this
- 17:41Speaker 1: whole a big ritual. And then we just kind of,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I don't we dedicate the show to something someone, We
- 17:50Speaker 1: say something, we go like on three one two, whatever
- 17:55Speaker 1: it is. But a lot of times it's I mean
- 17:58Speaker 1: most time it's just like funny ridiculousness. It makes no sense.
- 18:05Speaker 1: But yeah, we do like a little ritual just coming
- 18:08Speaker 1: together of like our energies and stuff, and that's really
- 18:13Speaker 1: the main thing. We will never stop doing that and probably.
- 18:16Speaker 3: So that's awesome and so special. A lot of bands
- 18:19Speaker 3: I speak to, they're like, no, we just jump on stage.
- 18:21Speaker 1: I'm like, yes, I'm so worried. Yeah, yeah, no, I
- 18:26Speaker 1: don't know. You have to like connect with your guys.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I mean, even though they're like my brothers at this point,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but it's just like you got to connect and be
- 18:33Speaker 1: able to connect further.
- 18:34Speaker 3: So yeah, and be on the same wavelength. And absolutely
- 18:38Speaker 3: the question also goes for after the show. I guess,
- 18:42Speaker 3: did you guys used to party a lot? And has
- 18:44Speaker 3: that changed or did you never do.
- 18:46Speaker 2: That sort of?
- 18:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean we definitely used to party quite a bit.
- 18:51Speaker 1: It is definitely it's non existent any anywhere at this
- 18:55Speaker 1: point because it's like, oh, we could go. I mean
- 18:58Speaker 1: sometimes like it if it's some of that.
- 19:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 19:00Speaker 1: The last tour, last Fall we did it was our
- 19:05Speaker 1: it was our guitar player's birthday, so we went, you know,
- 19:09Speaker 1: we played the show in Nashville actually, and then we
- 19:12Speaker 1: went out. We went all as a group out to
- 19:15Speaker 1: the bar, and like some of us don't even drink anymore,
- 19:17Speaker 1: you know, And so it's like but normally, I mean
- 19:21Speaker 1: literally almost every night it's you're, you're done, You're maybe
- 19:25Speaker 1: have a night cap, have your dinner, and just be
- 19:28Speaker 1: done with it. But yeah, yeah, at.
- 19:33Speaker 3: My age of I don't know how old, by thirty two,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, there's nothing I'd want to do more
- 19:38Speaker 3: than just after a show, if I was performing, then
- 19:41Speaker 3: to just go back to the hotel and rest.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, just go rest, like it's cool to I mean,
- 19:47Speaker 1: you're definitely riding the adrenaline of the show for a while,
- 19:50Speaker 1: so you definitely me personally, I don't sleep for another like,
- 19:54Speaker 1: you know, I don't get to sleep on tour till
- 19:57Speaker 1: like too like anywhere from like two to three am,
- 20:03Speaker 1: just with the adrenaline going, and even if you're trying
- 20:06Speaker 1: to unwind, it just takes a while, you know. But
- 20:10Speaker 1: that's a good thing, good good thing.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Yeah, And how do you maintain emotional connection to the
- 20:16Speaker 3: songs he wrote so long ago?
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I just as far as that goes,
- 20:25Speaker 1: I just you know, I really find the connection in
- 20:29Speaker 1: the crowd and in the fans. I don't really relate obviously,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I'm not going to relate to lyrics I wrote, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: twenty plus years ago as much as current lyrics. But
- 20:43Speaker 1: I just it really is a situation where I connect
- 20:48Speaker 1: with them because they've lived a life to these songs,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and even maybe they don't relate to them themselves in
- 20:54Speaker 1: the same way, but they did at a certain point,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and so all of that energy you can feel like
- 20:59Speaker 1: while we're worming, and we get that back in that
- 21:02Speaker 1: live feedback from them when they're singing back to us
- 21:05Speaker 1: and and me personally, and it's just that's the that's
- 21:08Speaker 1: the connection, that's the most important part.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, hell lovely.
- 21:12Speaker 3: And what's one piece of advice you'd give your youngest
- 21:15Speaker 3: self during the era of one fell Swood?
- 21:18Speaker 1: Piece of advice I would tell myself two, uh, don't stop,
- 21:29Speaker 1: don't beat yourself up so much and it's going to
- 21:31Speaker 1: be okay. Yeah, yeah, I would say that. Yeah, I
- 21:36Speaker 1: would said it. I said it myself now, so yeah yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 3: And Ken fans expect any new music from the Spool
- 21:43Speaker 3: Canvas following this tour.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Absolutely this year I've been writing so much. We have
- 21:49Speaker 1: so many new things to record, so this year we
- 21:52Speaker 1: will be recording some stuff at least releasing, if not.
- 21:56Speaker 1: We have one single new single recorded. I'm not sure
- 21:59Speaker 1: if we want to include that on a new album
- 22:00Speaker 1: or EP, but for sure this year, this year new
- 22:05Speaker 1: music in some way.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Absolutely fantastic.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Well, you'll have to come back again then after that
- 22:10Speaker 3: album's round.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Absolutely, that's the plan. That is the plan.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh wicked Nick. We can't wait to see you guys
- 22:16Speaker 2: in July. Thank you so much for your time today.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you so much, Angela. I appreciate it.
