- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome into another episode of
- 0:12Speaker 1: DiCecco Daily. It's Andrew DiCecco, Eagles beat reporter for InsideTheBirds.com.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Well, where do we begin?
- 0:19Speaker 1: A gutsy effort from the Philadelphia Eagles at Tottenham Hotspur
- 0:23Speaker 1: Stadium in London ended in an incomprehensible gut punch at
- 0:27Speaker 1: the final buzzer as the Eagles lose to the Jacksonville
- 0:30Speaker 1: Jaguars 19-17. It initially appeared as though the Eagles had
- 0:36Speaker 1: pulled off the improbable with kicker Jake Elliott drawing a
- 0:40Speaker 1: 48-yard field goal. The Eagles take the lead with eight
- 0:42Speaker 1: seconds remaining, but Jacksonville refused to go quietly. Jaguars kick
- 0:48Speaker 1: returner Amir Abdul returned the ensuing kickoff 53 yards to
- 0:51Speaker 1: the Eagles' 39-yard line, leaving one second on the clock,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and it set up a 57-yard field goal attempt from
- 0:58Speaker 1: kicker Cam Little. The kick was successful, and it sends
- 1:02Speaker 1: the Eagles back to Philadelphia with a 2-3 record and
- 1:05Speaker 1: a home matchup with the Carolina Panthers looming. Just some
- 1:10Speaker 1: quick numbers here before we get into my takeaways. Quarterback
- 1:14Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts completed 21 of 40 pass attempts.
- 1:18Speaker 2: For 220 yards and a touchdown.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Running back Damian Pierce led the way in the backfield,
- 1:23Speaker 1: carrying 11 times for 14 yards. The reception leaders were
- 1:27Speaker 1: Makai Lemon and Dontabian Wicks, who had five apiece, while
- 1:30Speaker 1: Darius Cooper compiled a team-leading 71 yards and a touchdown. Defensively,
- 1:37Speaker 1: linebacker Zach Bond, 11 tackles, and defensive back Cooper DeGene,
- 1:41Speaker 1: 10 tackles, led the unit. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter logged
- 1:46Speaker 1: a pair of sacks and forced fumbles. Cornerback Quinion Mitchell
- 1:50Speaker 1: was credited with a pair of passes defended. The Eagles
- 1:54Speaker 1: in actives. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown. Wide receiver Devontae Smith.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Running back Saquon Barkley. Safety Marcus Epps. Outside linebacker Jonathan Grenard.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And center Drew Kendall. Just a quick note here. The
- 2:07Speaker 1: Eagles are electing to carry right tackle Lane Johnson, who
- 2:10Speaker 1: retired Tuesday on the active roster, as opposed to the
- 2:13Speaker 1: reserve retired list. My understanding is that the team intends
- 2:16Speaker 1: on carrying Johnson on the 53-man roster for the remainder
- 2:19Speaker 1: of the season due to salary cap ramifications, and while
- 2:24Speaker 1: this is very unlikely, doing so also leaves the door
- 2:28Speaker 1: open for a return. On the opening kickoff, the Jaguars'
- 2:35Speaker 1: Josh Cameron appeared to rip off a 90-yard return for
- 2:38Speaker 1: a score, but there were offsetting penalties available. as the
- 2:41Speaker 1: Jaguars were called for holding and the Eagles for an
- 2:43Speaker 1: illegal formation. But additionally, this was a big one, guys,
- 2:47Speaker 1: because Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jaguars outside linebacker
- 2:52Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Jr. were ejected following some extracurriculars on the play.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I'm not sure that the broadcast fully captured the scuffle
- 3:01Speaker 1: that took place, but on the re-kick, Amir Abdul brought
- 3:05Speaker 1: it out to the 26-yard line. The ejection for the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Eagles was significant, not just for depth perspective, but also
- 3:12Speaker 1: because Trotter Jr. is a core special teamer on a
- 3:16Speaker 1: group with some new faces in an all-hands-on-deck scenario. And
- 3:22Speaker 1: sure enough, we're going to circle back on this. Rough
- 3:25Speaker 1: late-game sequencing from Nick Sirianni. There's not a whole lot
- 3:29Speaker 1: that you can really say about or try to rationalize,
- 3:33Speaker 1: but with the Eagles driving and positioning themselves for the
- 3:36Speaker 1: game winning field goal, the sensible decision would have been
- 3:39Speaker 1: to drain as much.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Clock as possible, right?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Well, the Eagles run, if you run the ball a
- 3:44Speaker 1: couple of times, rather than have the clock stop on
- 3:46Speaker 1: first and second down, the first was an incompletion to
- 3:49Speaker 1: wide receiver Dontavian Wicks. And the second play was one
- 3:53Speaker 1: where Makai Lemon is escorted out of bounds, kind of
- 3:56Speaker 1: at the Jacksonville 27 and, The ensuing play resulted in
- 4:00Speaker 1: a Damian Pierce three-yard loss, and then Jacksonville calls their
- 4:06Speaker 1: final timeout with 12 seconds remaining, which proved costly for
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Eagles. Following a 48-yard Jake Elliott field goal with
- 4:13Speaker 1: the Jaguars being left with eight seconds to work with,
- 4:17Speaker 1: rather than have Jake Elliott kick the ball out of
- 4:20Speaker 1: the end zone and making the Jaguars go the length
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the field, especially with key regulars absent in kick coverage...
- 4:27Speaker 1: Elliott was instructed to keep the ball in play. Instead,
- 4:31Speaker 1: Jags kicker, kick returner Amir Abdullah returned the kickoff 53
- 4:35Speaker 1: yards to the Eagles 39 with one second remaining. And
- 4:38Speaker 1: that's all they needed, really, as Cam Little drills the
- 4:41Speaker 1: 57-yard game winner.
- 4:43Speaker 2: A quick quote here from Jake Elliott.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Honestly, kind of like you said, there was so little
- 4:47Speaker 1: time for me to kind of gather myself between those
- 4:49Speaker 1: two things. I just went out and did what I
- 4:52Speaker 1: was told and wish it obviously turned out better.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Sirianni.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I didn't make the right decision, and I lost us
- 4:59Speaker 1: that game, and that's what I said to our guys.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And what hurts there is that the guys fought hard,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and then I don't make that decision that I should
- 5:07Speaker 1: make at the end of the game, and I cost
- 5:09Speaker 1: us that game, and I put that fully on me.
- 5:13Speaker 2: A lot to unpack here.
- 5:14Speaker 1: First and foremost, the Eagles need to remember that they
- 5:19Speaker 1: were without Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
- 5:21Speaker 2: who was their top cover guy.
- 5:23Speaker 1: On special teams, and they also were without running back
- 5:26Speaker 1: Will Shipley, who exited the game with a foot injury
- 5:28Speaker 1: and did not return. Both of those guys are core
- 5:31Speaker 1: members of their special teams. There were some new faces
- 5:34Speaker 1: out there, like running back Carson Steele. You had Jonathan
- 5:38Speaker 1: Jones out there, AJ Epinesa. Not all of these guys
- 5:42Speaker 1: are regulars that are on the kickoff team. And I
- 5:45Speaker 1: thought on that play, re-watching it a few times, there
- 5:49Speaker 1: were opportunities. They blocked it up really well. I know
- 5:53Speaker 1: EJ Jenkins was double teamed on that. It looked like
- 5:58Speaker 1: there was some poor angles taken from 17 on whatever Katie,
- 6:04Speaker 1: maybe smile Mondin, but, but you gotta be able to
- 6:07Speaker 1: make those plays. And if you're going to kick and
- 6:11Speaker 1: if you are going to kick and you are fully
- 6:14Speaker 1: committed to that, Maybe consider putting some of your starters
- 6:18Speaker 1: in there for one play. Your best tacklers. I'm talking
- 6:22Speaker 1: about Zach Vaughn, Cooper Dejean, and players like that.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Jihad Campbell.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Because if you're going to put the game all on
- 6:31Speaker 1: the line with that one kick, you've got to make
- 6:33Speaker 1: sure that you have dependable guys out there that can
- 6:36Speaker 1: tackle in space and make it happen. Now, why have
- 6:40Speaker 1: Jake Elliott kick it, period? Kick it and leave the
- 6:43Speaker 1: ball in play, I mean. Why not kick the ball
- 6:46Speaker 1: out of the back of the end zone? They had
- 6:48Speaker 1: eight seconds left. They had no timeouts remaining. And then
- 6:51Speaker 1: all of a sudden you set up an improbable scenario
- 6:53Speaker 1: for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Game is won.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But you also can look back at the previous sequence
- 6:59Speaker 1: for the Eagles when they had the ball, and why
- 7:02Speaker 1: not run it a couple of times and drain the
- 7:04Speaker 1: clock and leave them with no time where Jake Elliott
- 7:09Speaker 1: kicks the walk-off field goal and the game's over? For
- 7:13Speaker 1: an overmatched team in this game like the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I thought that they played with a lot of guts.
- 7:19Speaker 1: They didn't make any excuses. They came out ready to
- 7:22Speaker 1: play that game, which I think if we're going to
- 7:25Speaker 1: pile on to Nick Sirianni this week, I think it's
- 7:29Speaker 1: also important to outline that despite having players on the
- 7:34Speaker 1: offensive line that were making their first NFL starts, despite
- 7:38Speaker 1: not having Saquon Barkley, Devontae Smith, And you lose J.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Lux Hunt in that game. You don't have Jonathan Grenard.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I thought that they came out focused and ready. And
- 7:49Speaker 1: I really liked the way they opened that game. But
- 7:52Speaker 1: that was a coaching blunder. And that cost them the game.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And for Nick Sirianni, who does preach accountability, that's a
- 7:59Speaker 1: core principle for him.
- 8:00Speaker 2: And he talks about it often.
- 8:02Speaker 1: For him to relay that to his team and put
- 8:05Speaker 1: that one on him, you have to commend him for that.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It would be easy to say it was a collective.
- 8:09Speaker 2: We need to play better.
- 8:11Speaker 1: This and that, but I thought him taking ownership of
- 8:14Speaker 1: it is exactly what you want to hear if you're
- 8:15Speaker 1: a player.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Now, everybody had a hand in this. Everyone will tell
- 8:19Speaker 2: you that.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Everyone had a hand in this, but when you have
- 8:22Speaker 1: the game won, essentially, and it comes down to game
- 8:26Speaker 1: managing at the end, and you are a CEO head coach,
- 8:29Speaker 1: you can't make those mistakes. They almost won a game
- 8:34Speaker 1: that they had no business of winning, at least on paper,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and unfortunately for the Eagles... It's not to be, and
- 8:42Speaker 1: they now fly home 2-3 with the game against the
- 8:46Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers upcoming. Second-year offensive linemen Jake Majors and Willie
- 8:52Speaker 1: Lampkin made their first NFL starts at center and left guard, respectively.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And understand that my initial assessment is based off of
- 8:59Speaker 1: first watch, but I did think that Jake Majors held
- 9:02Speaker 1: his own against a pretty stout Jacksonville interior. The snaps,
- 9:05Speaker 1: for the most part, appeared to be clean and he
- 9:08Speaker 1: avoided penalties. Lampkin, a fan favorite, was also solid, though
- 9:12Speaker 1: he notably surrendered a pressure on the Eagles' second drive
- 9:15Speaker 1: to Jaguars DT Ruke Ohorohoro. But Majors delivered a low
- 9:21Speaker 1: snap on a third quarter, third and three on the
- 9:24Speaker 1: Eagles' opening series that stalled the drive. Hurts fielded it
- 9:27Speaker 1: and was dropped for a five-yard loss, fumbled at the
- 9:30Speaker 1: end of the play. The Eagles recovered, and then they
- 9:32Speaker 1: were forced to punt. So that stalled the drive, that snap.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Majors snapped high on another occasion in the second half.
- 9:38Speaker 2: As well.
- 9:40Speaker 1: But on the Eagles' first touchdown of the morning, a
- 9:42Speaker 1: two-yard Will Shipley run to even the score. That was
- 9:45Speaker 1: Will Shipley's first career regular season.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Touchdown, by the way.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Majors, and particularly Lampkin, paved the way. Their performances, coupled
- 9:53Speaker 1: with third-round rookie Markel Bell at right tackle, were as
- 9:56Speaker 1: solid as the Eagles could have hoped.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And for.
- 10:00Speaker 1: someone like Jake Majors, who, that was his first NFL game.
- 10:04Speaker 1: He hadn't played since the preseason. To step in there,
- 10:08Speaker 1: across the pond in London, where you're going against a
- 10:12Speaker 1: pretty strong Jacksonville defensive line, you really haven't worked all
- 10:17Speaker 1: that much with Jalen Hurts. He was really working with
- 10:20Speaker 1: the second team primarily in training camp. You get a
- 10:23Speaker 1: week of work with him leading up to this game,
- 10:26Speaker 1: but that's not exactly a lot. And the crowd, if
- 10:29Speaker 1: you could hear it through the broadcast, was very loud.
- 10:33Speaker 1: It had to be difficult to hear anything. To be
- 10:36Speaker 1: able to step up and deliver in that spot. And
- 10:38Speaker 1: it wasn't perfect. I'm not trying to say that it was.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But I thought that he deserves a lot of credit
- 10:43Speaker 1: coming out of this game, as does Willie Lampkin himself.
- 10:46Speaker 1: as does Markel Bell, because there were, I'm sure there
- 10:51Speaker 1: were a lot of questions going into this game about
- 10:53Speaker 1: how they were going to fare, especially against the defense
- 10:56Speaker 1: that they were matched up against.
- 10:58Speaker 2: But again, like.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I said, the Eagles probably couldn't have hoped for anything
- 11:02Speaker 1: better than what they got from them. After a quiet
- 11:05Speaker 1: start to the season, Jalen Carter came alive in this one.
- 11:09Speaker 1: In the first half alone, Carter produced a pair of
- 11:11Speaker 1: sacks and forced fumbles and had a few big tackles
- 11:14Speaker 1: for loss. The 2024 All-Pro has been hampered by the
- 11:18Speaker 1: hairline fracture in his wrist, which contributed to the lack
- 11:21Speaker 1: of splash plays. I think that's fair. But on Sunday
- 11:24Speaker 1: morning in London, Carter was a dominant force. He terrorized
- 11:27Speaker 1: the Jaguars' defensive line. And for the Eagles' defense to
- 11:31Speaker 1: play to its fullest potential, they'll need more of that
- 11:33Speaker 1: from Jalen Carter.

- 13:16Speaker 3: deal with people in my house trying to tell me
- 13:19Speaker 3: how much I'm going to have to pay that I
- 13:21Speaker 3: have to replace. the appliance. Then I got to do
- 13:23Speaker 3: research on what the best appliance is to replace with.

- 14:35Speaker 1: Elsewhere on defense, I was impressed with what I saw
- 14:37Speaker 1: from defensive back Cooper DeGene in run support. As he
- 14:40Speaker 1: was active and physical, DeGene made a handful of plays
- 14:43Speaker 1: behind the line of scrimmage, closing quickly on running back
- 14:48Speaker 1: Bashaw Tutin on a number of occasions. And while he
- 14:51Speaker 1: allowed some plays in coverage, DeGene also contested some tight
- 14:55Speaker 1: window throws from quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Zach Bond, I thought,
- 14:58Speaker 1: was phenomenal as well. And this defense really kept the
- 15:01Speaker 1: Eagles in the game going into the year, They were
- 15:04Speaker 1: going to have to be the unit that does a
- 15:06Speaker 1: lot of the heavy lifting while the offense figures it out. Well,
- 15:09Speaker 1: the offense is still trying to figure it out, and
- 15:12Speaker 1: the defense had been tasked with being out on the
- 15:14Speaker 1: field far longer than I think should be expected. It's
- 15:19Speaker 1: not exactly fair what they're being asked to do. And eventually,
- 15:22Speaker 1: that dam breaks. You saw it really against the Rams,
- 15:26Speaker 1: but there were moments in this game where I chalk
- 15:29Speaker 1: it up to fatigue, and I'm not pardoning them by
- 15:34Speaker 1: any means, but when you're out there as long as
- 15:36Speaker 1: you are and your offense in the second half is
- 15:39Speaker 1: continuing to pile up three and outs, I mean, eventually
- 15:43Speaker 1: you have to be able to play complementary football or
- 15:46Speaker 1: this defense will wear down in critical spots down the
- 15:49Speaker 1: line here. The second half offensive woes for the Eagles
- 15:54Speaker 1: continued Sunday in London. The offense is averaging less than
- 15:57Speaker 1: five second-half points per game. They also haven't scored a
- 16:00Speaker 1: second-half touchdown since Week 2 in Nashville. I mean, they'll
- 16:04Speaker 1: have to go back and go back to the drawing
- 16:07Speaker 1: board here and figure out what's going wrong because there
- 16:10Speaker 1: are a lot of things you can point to. I'll
- 16:12Speaker 1: have to go back and rewatch more closely to identify themes.
- 16:16Speaker 2: But again, they live behind the sticks. They were one dimensional.
- 16:18Speaker 1: They couldn't run the football and they were needing to
- 16:20Speaker 1: rely on the passing game out of necessity. Jalen Hurts
- 16:25Speaker 1: says we got to keep at it. Got to keep
- 16:28Speaker 1: getting up and keep finding out ways to that we
- 16:31Speaker 1: can improve in the end. That's not the standard and
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's inexcusable. So we've got a lot of opportunity to grow.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Now I'm not, I'm not in London for the game.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So I was listening to the press conferences and things
- 16:44Speaker 1: of that nature. So I can't necessarily speak to the, the,
- 16:49Speaker 1: the tone, the demeanor, what it was like or anything
- 16:51Speaker 1: like that, like, like normally. But what I can tell
- 16:54Speaker 1: you is I thought Jalen Hurts opened this game efficient.
- 16:58Speaker 2: He was getting the football out quickly.
- 17:00Speaker 1: They were combating some of the pressure that the Jags
- 17:03Speaker 1: were throwing at the Eagles, and it seemed like the
- 17:05Speaker 1: offense was on schedule. They still couldn't really run the
- 17:08Speaker 1: ball effectively, but I thought he took command of the
- 17:11Speaker 1: offense and had them moving forward. You could see that
- 17:15Speaker 1: they came out focused and with a clear-cut plan, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: it seemed like the vision for this game with Sean.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Manning and Jalen Hurts was really in lockstep.
- 17:25Speaker 1: The other part that I'll say is Jalen Hurts also
- 17:27Speaker 1: has a hand in this, not as prominently as Nick Sirianni. And,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you know, you could look at the injuries and everything else.
- 17:35Speaker 1: You know, some of the things I see on social media,
- 17:37Speaker 1: he doesn't have any weapons.
- 17:39Speaker 2: What do you want him to do?
- 17:40Speaker 1: Well, no one was saying that about Dontavion Wicks a
- 17:42Speaker 1: few weeks ago. No one was saying that about Darius
- 17:45Speaker 1: Cooper when he was lighting it up in training camp
- 17:47Speaker 1: and when he's catching game-winning touchdowns against the Tennessee Titans.
- 17:52Speaker 2: They got Dallas Goddard back. Dallas Goddard didn't do a ton.
- 17:54Speaker 1: He had 38 yards receiving in this game, but he
- 17:56Speaker 1: was more of a security blanket, kind of like Wicks was.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But the point of this is, as a franchise quarterback,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and I thought the pressure, the Eagles did a nice
- 18:05Speaker 1: job having an answer for the pressure, and I didn't
- 18:08Speaker 1: think the offensive line performed. I didn't think it was
- 18:13Speaker 1: as leaky as it has been. As a franchise quarterback,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you have to elevate the talent around you. They have
- 18:19Speaker 1: enough there. quarterbacks around the NFL work with less. And
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a caveat because the.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Eagles are undermanned.
- 18:30Speaker 1: And when you can't run the football and you make
- 18:32Speaker 1: yourself one-dimensional, there's always so much you can do. But
- 18:36Speaker 1: You know, everybody has a hand in this and that
- 18:38Speaker 1: quarterback included. And I think that needs to be emphasized
- 18:42Speaker 1: here in this game. It's not just one person, but
- 18:45Speaker 1: there are a lot of common themes that I'm seeing
- 18:47Speaker 1: here with the common denominators, the second half deficiencies. This year,
- 18:53Speaker 1: it's been prevalent. Last season, it was a common theme.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I mean, last season, they weren't as banged up. Last season,
- 19:03Speaker 1: the offensive line wasn't great, but, I mean, you have
- 19:07Speaker 1: to be able to persevere and rise to the occasion.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And all that being said, at the end of that game,
- 19:13Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts did enough to position the Eagles to win
- 19:15Speaker 1: that football game. It was just a mismanagement there by
- 19:18Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni. But the steps taken to that point, some
- 19:23Speaker 1: of that has to be pinpointed on the quarterback because, again,
- 19:26Speaker 1: the offense in general went radio silent there.
- 19:29Speaker 2: In the second half.
- 19:30Speaker 1: The three and outs start to pile up, and there
- 19:34Speaker 1: were some inaccurate throws. I'm not going to play the
- 19:37Speaker 1: game of who was open, who wasn't open, without going
- 19:39Speaker 1: back and watching the actual coaching tape and asking questions
- 19:43Speaker 1: to get a better idea of what was responsibilities and
- 19:47Speaker 1: what was he seeing on those plays. But I thought
- 19:50Speaker 1: he held the ball a little longer in the second
- 19:51Speaker 1: half and some things like that. But it did seem
- 19:54Speaker 1: to me that he was trusting the protection up front
- 19:58Speaker 1: more so than he was last week. And maybe that
- 20:02Speaker 1: had to do with the calf injury that popped up
- 20:04Speaker 1: on Friday's injury report. Now, he was listed as a
- 20:06Speaker 1: full participant and had no designation going into the game.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But it was notable.
- 20:11Speaker 1: That Jalen didn't run, but he didn't bail from the
- 20:14Speaker 1: pocket or anything like that. He stood tall and delivered.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And that, to me, was something that I jotted down
- 20:19Speaker 1: throughout the game. It seemed like he was trusting the
- 20:21Speaker 1: players in front of him, which maybe speaks to his
- 20:27Speaker 1: lack of mobility in this one. Some positives to build
- 20:31Speaker 1: on for the Eagles in the first half, including a
- 20:33Speaker 1: 4-for-6 third-down conversion rate after going 0-for-12 a week ago
- 20:37Speaker 1: against the LA Rams.
- 20:38Speaker 2: And they also had zero penalties.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Additionally, even without his primary receiving threat in Devontae Smith,
- 20:44Speaker 1: the team received strong efforts from from its collection of
- 20:47Speaker 1: pass catchers, namely Dontavian Wicks, Dallas Goddard.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And Darius Cooper.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Cooper, of course, reeled in a 62-yard touchdown to temporarily
- 20:54Speaker 1: shift momentum, while Goddard and Wicks served as security blankets
- 20:58Speaker 1: throughout the game, as I mentioned. Hurts missed an opportunity
- 21:01Speaker 1: to connect with a wide-open Wicks on a deep shot
- 21:04Speaker 1: that might have put the game out of reach, but
- 21:06Speaker 1: in fairness, he was pressured and the pass was a
- 21:08Speaker 1: hair long. I'll have to ask J1 or Dontavian Wicks
- 21:12Speaker 1: to get a different perspective to get a perspective on
- 21:18Speaker 1: this play without me criticizing one or the other too much.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I know that there was pressure there and he kind
- 21:24Speaker 1: of just got to let the ball rip and lob
- 21:26Speaker 1: it up there. But it was a little long. Could
- 21:29Speaker 1: Dontavian Wicks have dove for the ball?
- 21:31Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Did he track it particularly well? Maybe that was the case.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Or maybe it was just simply an overthrow.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:40Speaker 1: That's why you have to talk to talk to and
- 21:44Speaker 1: hear from the players to get a better understanding of
- 21:46Speaker 1: that play and the breakdown there. The Eagles finished 6-15
- 21:52Speaker 1: on third down and 0-2 on fourth down. They collected
- 21:56Speaker 1: 13 first downs to the Jaguars' 18 and lost the
- 22:00Speaker 1: time of possession 24-58 to the Jaguars' 35-02. The Eagles
- 22:05Speaker 1: also finished with seven penalties for 43 yards. Leading into
- 22:11Speaker 1: this game, the Eagles had been susceptible to the blitz.
- 22:13Speaker 1: They just didn't have much of an answer. But against
- 22:16Speaker 1: an aggressive Jacksonville front, the offense picked it up fairly well,
- 22:19Speaker 1: at least for most of the game. The second half
- 22:22Speaker 1: told a little bit of a different story. The line
- 22:24Speaker 1: looked far more synchronized, and the running backs, Shipley before
- 22:28Speaker 1: he left the game injured, and Damian.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Pierce, did their part.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But a lot of it had to do with Jalen
- 22:33Speaker 1: Hurts having a quicker release than he's had in the
- 22:35Speaker 1: previous two games. Quinion Mitchell's late third quarter interception, returning
- 22:41Speaker 1: possession at the Eagles 26, was Mitchell's first regular season
- 22:45Speaker 1: interception of his career. While regular season takeaways have eluded Mitchell,
- 22:49Speaker 1: the playoffs have been a different story. In five postseason contests,
- 22:53Speaker 1: Mitchell has reeled in four interceptions. And this was kind
- 22:56Speaker 1: of a fun one. Elsewhere, Cole Payton, the Eagles' third quarterback,
- 23:00Speaker 1: received some special team snaps.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I noticed some....
- 23:07Speaker 1: On punt block, and I noticed him on punt coverage
- 23:11Speaker 1: on certain occasions. The Eagles also lost a few key
- 23:15Speaker 1: players in this game that did not return. Outside linebacker
- 23:19Speaker 1: Jalux Hunt, ankle knee, defensive back Michael Carter II, abdomen,
- 23:23Speaker 1: running back Will Shipley-Foot, and Trotter Jr. with the ejection.
- 23:28Speaker 1: We'll learn more on their respective statuses this week. Hunt's
- 23:32Speaker 1: injury did not look good, and.
- 23:36Speaker 2: We'll have to see. He looked to be in a
- 23:38Speaker 2: lot of pain.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It was the last play before the half where he
- 23:42Speaker 1: was going for the loose ball there. And, I.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Mean, that's a tough deal. And we'll have to see what.
- 23:51Speaker 1: The injury entails, what that timeline looks like, the severity
- 23:54Speaker 1: of it, all that. But I'm not going to certainly
- 23:57Speaker 1: speculate on it. And, I mean, look, that was another
- 24:00Speaker 1: example of the defense performing poorly. really well in this game.
- 24:04Speaker 1: They had multiple goal line stops. They were active. The
- 24:07Speaker 1: defensive line, I thought, made their presence felt. The tackling
- 24:11Speaker 1: was better, maybe not on the Parker Washington touchdown. And
- 24:14Speaker 1: by the way, the other Parker Washington touchdown, I thought
- 24:16Speaker 1: Reek Wohan had pretty damn good coverage on the play.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure what else he could have done,
- 24:22Speaker 1: maybe get a hand up, but he blanketed him. He
- 24:25Speaker 1: didn't get flagged. He was really tightly guarding him. And
- 24:27Speaker 1: it was just a tremendous play there by Parker Washington. So, yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 1: the defense had some plays that they'd like to have back,
- 24:34Speaker 1: but I thought most of all they did the heavy
- 24:36Speaker 1: lifting in this game.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 25:46Speaker 3: your own adventure, and that goes for your power bill too.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Right now across the U.S., Americans have the potential to
- 25:52Speaker 3: harness limitless, clean, affordable energy. We could be powering our hospitals,
- 25:57Speaker 3: our schools, our farms, and so much more. In some places,
- 26:01Speaker 3: this abundant local power is already helping lower utility bills
- 26:05Speaker 3: and creating jobs. But depending on where you live, you
- 26:08Speaker 3: may not have the option to choose Limitless Energy for
- 26:11Speaker 3: your household. That has to change. We should all get

- 26:28Speaker 1: Michael Carter II with the abdomen is an interesting one
- 26:31Speaker 1: because the egos are already really light in the secondary.
- 26:35Speaker 1: They had to put Kenny Moore back there to play
- 26:37Speaker 1: safety opposite Makuba. They have Cooper DeGene who plays it
- 26:41Speaker 1: in base, but Marcus Epps was out for this game.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Michael Carter, we'll see about the abdomen, but I mean,
- 26:49Speaker 1: I'm curious to see what the Eagles do here if
- 26:51Speaker 1: Michael Carter has an injury that is a multi-week deal.
- 26:56Speaker 1: And with Will Shipley in the foot, that's an injury
- 26:58Speaker 1: that he's been battling. He popped up on the injury
- 27:00Speaker 1: report the past couple weeks with it. I remember talking
- 27:03Speaker 1: to him about it, and he said it bothers him
- 27:06Speaker 1: except when he's in the huddle and he hears Jalen
- 27:08Speaker 1: Hurts' voice and you're focused solely on the task at hand.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You not necessarily have the adrenaline take over, but when
- 27:15Speaker 1: you're fixated on your assignment and what needs to be done,
- 27:20Speaker 1: everything else.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Sort of goes by the wayside. And it seemed like
- 27:25Speaker 2: whatever it was.
- 27:27Speaker 1: It got aggravated in this game, clearly. because he never
- 27:30Speaker 1: returned with that foot injury. So the Eagles are light
- 27:34Speaker 1: there as well. They were down to Damian Pierce and
- 27:37Speaker 1: Carson Steele in that game. Now, Carson Steele did not
- 27:39Speaker 1: have a carry. Those belonged to Damian Pierce. We'll see
- 27:43Speaker 1: what Saquon Barkley's status looks like this week. Remember, he's
- 27:47Speaker 1: week to week with the hamstring. And a lot of
- 27:50Speaker 1: questions to answer this week and a lot to learn
- 27:54Speaker 1: and We'll see what another busy week at the Jefferson
- 27:57Speaker 1: Health Training Complex entails. We'll hear from the coordinators on Tuesday.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I'm sure Michael Clay will have quite a few questions,
- 28:06Speaker 1: and I'm sure that we'll get the perspective of Sean
- 28:12Speaker 1: Manning on some key elements in this game, and I
- 28:14Speaker 1: really look forward to learning more about some of the
- 28:18Speaker 1: breakdowns in this game, some of which continue to surface
- 28:22Speaker 1: week after week. But with that, that is going to
- 28:25Speaker 1: do it for this episode of DiCecco Daily.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I'm Andrew DiCecco, and I'll catch you all on the
- 28:30Speaker 2: next one.
