- 0:26Speaker 1: in lineups instantly. Four weeks, guys. That's all it took.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Four weeks into the John Summerall era at Florida, and
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Florida Gators are officially a top 10 football team.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Number eight in the AP poll, number eight in the
- 0:40Speaker 1: coaches poll. And maybe the biggest thing about those rankings
- 0:44Speaker 1: isn't even the number. It's what they represent. For the
- 0:48Speaker 1: first time in a really long time, it feels like
- 0:50Speaker 1: the national college football world isn't talking about Florida because
- 0:54Speaker 1: of what went wrong. They're talking about Florida because of
- 0:58Speaker 1: what's going right. And Gator fans, I think we need
- 1:01Speaker 1: to appreciate just how quickly this thing has changed. Florida
- 1:05Speaker 1: didn't move up one or two spots this week. They
- 1:07Speaker 1: didn't creep into the top 15. Florida went from number
- 1:10Speaker 1: 21 to number 8 in the AP poll. 13 spots.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And the coaches gave Florida even more respect. Florida went
- 1:17Speaker 1: from number 22 all the way up to number 8.
- 1:20Speaker 1: 14 spots. That's not voters saying, hey, Florida had a
- 1:24Speaker 1: nice win. That is voters saying, all right, Florida. We
- 1:29Speaker 1: see you. And it's about time. Florida didn't just beat
- 1:33Speaker 1: Ole Miss Saturday. Florida beat the breaks off the number
- 1:37Speaker 1: four team in the country, 52-28. There was nothing fluky
- 1:42Speaker 1: about it. Florida didn't survive. Florida didn't need a miracle.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Florida didn't need Ole Miss to miss a field goal
- 1:48Speaker 1: at the end. Florida lined up against one of the
- 1:51Speaker 1: highest ranked teams in college football. ran for 302 yards,
- 1:56Speaker 1: scored six rushing touchdowns, put 52 points on the scoreboard,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and basically told the rest of college football, you may
- 2:05Speaker 1: want to start paying attention because the Florida Gators are
- 2:08Speaker 1: back in the conversation. And I want to be careful
- 2:11Speaker 1: with the word back because this is a long season ahead,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and this is not me sitting here saying Florida's back
- 2:17Speaker 1: in the hunt for a national title right now. John
- 2:20Speaker 1: Summerall himself said that after the game. He said Florida
- 2:23Speaker 1: has not arrived. And I do love that because the
- 2:26Speaker 1: fan base can celebrate, the media can talk, we can
- 2:29Speaker 1: talk about rankings, we can talk about playoffs, but inside
- 2:33Speaker 1: that building, the message is apparently still, we haven't done
- 2:37Speaker 1: anything yet. And that is one of the reasons that
- 2:40Speaker 1: I believe Coach Summerall is the real deal. Think about
- 2:43Speaker 1: where this program was viewed nationally just a few months ago.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Florida was not ranked in the preseason. They were picked
- 2:50Speaker 1: ninth in the SEC, ninth. And honestly, nationally, Florida had
- 2:54Speaker 1: almost become an afterthought. Whenever Florida was discussed, what did
- 2:57Speaker 1: we hear? Tough schedule. Rebuilding. New coach. Let's see what happens.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Can Florida compete with the top teams in the SEC?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Can Florida get back to being relevant nationally? And now,
- 3:09Speaker 1: four games later, they're number eight in America. That is
- 3:13Speaker 1: an incredible transformation in perception. And you know what changed
- 3:17Speaker 1: that perception? Florida went out and earned it. They went
- 3:21Speaker 1: to Auburn and they won an SEC road game. Then
- 3:24Speaker 1: they came home and they played the number four team
- 3:26Speaker 1: in the country and they absolutely physically dominated them. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: suddenly the conversation sounds very different. CBS Sports is talking
- 3:36Speaker 1: about Florida as a college football playoff contender. ESPN is
- 3:40Speaker 1: talking about Florida in the playoff picture. The Associated Press
- 3:43Speaker 1: put together what the playoff bracket would look like based
- 3:46Speaker 1: on the current AP poll. And guess what? Florida would
- 3:49Speaker 1: host a playoff game in the swamp. Just think about
- 3:53Speaker 1: that sentence. If the playoff were based on today's AP rankings,
- 3:57Speaker 1: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium would host a college football playoff game.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Four weeks ago, Florida wasn't even ranked. That's how quickly
- 4:05Speaker 1: this has changed. And I think a huge reason for
- 4:09Speaker 1: that is Coach Summerall. We knew Summerall could coach. The
- 4:14Speaker 1: guy at Troy, he won at Tulane. and he's proven
- 4:18Speaker 1: that everywhere he's been, his teams were tough and physical
- 4:22Speaker 1: and disciplined. But doing it at Florida, doing it in
- 4:25Speaker 1: the SEC, doing it with the pressure and expectations that
- 4:29Speaker 1: come with this job, that was the question. And through
- 4:33Speaker 1: four games, the answer looks pretty damn good. We're gonna
- 4:36Speaker 1: take a short break from this video to give some
- 4:38Speaker 1: love to Alumni Hall. Guys, I know you're feeling the
- 4:41Speaker 1: buzz like I am. We're number eight in the country.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Time to get some new gear. Alumni Hall can help
- 4:46Speaker 1: you out with that. They have given us a discount code.
- 4:49Speaker 1: It's PEAK15. That's P-E-E-K-1-5. It's going to save you 15%

- 5:04Speaker 1: You've got to check them out. It's time for some
- 5:06Speaker 1: new Gator gear. We are celebrating this top 10 ranking.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I appreciate Alumni Hall for all their support. Go check
- 5:12Speaker 1: them out and let them know that Allie sent you.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Don't forget, Peak 15, P-E-E-K, 1-5. Actually, it looks better
- 5:20Speaker 1: than pretty damn good. Florida's 4-0. Florida's 2-0 in the SEC.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They scored 66 points, then 52, then 44, then another 52.
- 5:29Speaker 1: That's 214 points in four games. The most points Florida
- 5:34Speaker 1: has scored through the first four games of a season
- 5:36Speaker 1: since 1996. Yeah, 1996. You might remember that season. Ended
- 5:41Speaker 1: pretty well. I'm not saying this team is the 1996
- 5:44Speaker 1: Florida Gators. Everybody chill out there. But when you start
- 5:49Speaker 1: having to go back to Steve Spurrier-era Florida to find
- 5:52Speaker 1: offensive numbers that compare with what you're doing, you are
- 5:56Speaker 1: doing something right. And Summerall has also become the first
- 6:00Speaker 1: coach in SEC history to have his team score at
- 6:02Speaker 1: least 200 points in the first four games. This is
- 6:05Speaker 1: not normal, what we're seeing. And here's what I think
- 6:09Speaker 1: separates Summerall from just having a nice little 4-0 start.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Florida has an identity already. Four games in, you can
- 6:18Speaker 1: watch Florida play football and you understand what John Summerall
- 6:21Speaker 1: wants this team to be. He wants them to be physical.
- 6:25Speaker 1: He wants them to be aggressive. He wants them to
- 6:27Speaker 1: be confident. He wants them to be resilient. And maybe
- 6:31Speaker 1: most importantly, he expects Florida to win. There is a
- 6:37Speaker 1: difference between hope hoping you win and expecting to win.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And for several years, there were games where Florida looked
- 6:44Speaker 1: like it was waiting to see what happened. Saturday, Florida
- 6:49Speaker 1: dictated what happened. Ole Miss came into Gainesville as the
- 6:53Speaker 1: number four team in the country. Florida treated them like
- 6:56Speaker 1: they were standing in the way. That's different. Ole Miss
- 7:00Speaker 1: punched back in the second half. Florida answered. Ole Miss
- 7:03Speaker 1: made it 24-21. And instead of tightening up, Florida went, Touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Five straight second half possessions ending in touchdowns. That is
- 7:15Speaker 1: what good teams do. More importantly, that's what confident teams do.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And I keep coming back to the national perception because
- 7:23Speaker 1: I do think it's important. Florida fans have spent years saying,
- 7:27Speaker 1: if Florida were doing some of these things that other
- 7:30Speaker 1: programs were doing, they'd be getting more attention. Well, guess what?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Florida's getting the attention now and they deserve it. You
- 7:37Speaker 1: can't hide 52-28 against the number four team in the country.
- 7:41Speaker 1: You just can't. You can't dismiss 4-0. You can't ignore
- 7:44Speaker 1: 214 points. You can't pretend Florida doesn't belong in the
- 7:47Speaker 1: conversation when they've already beaten two SEC teams and just
- 7:51Speaker 1: demolished a top five opponent. So now Florida is ranked
- 7:54Speaker 1: number eight. And with that ranking comes something Florida hasn't
- 7:58Speaker 1: had much of recently. National expectations. That's the next test.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's one thing to be the team chasing everybody. It's
- 8:07Speaker 1: another thing entirely when everybody starts chasing you. And that
- 8:13Speaker 1: is where we're going to learn even more about Coach Summerall.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Florida has Missouri next on the road. And this might
- 8:20Speaker 1: sound crazy after beating the number four team in the
- 8:22Speaker 1: country by 24 points. But this is the type of
- 8:26Speaker 1: game where really good coaches earn their money. Everybody was
- 8:29Speaker 1: excited for Saturday. The Swamp was insane, nationally televised, top
- 8:33Speaker 1: five opponent, huge recruiting weekend. You couldn't manufacture more energy
- 8:38Speaker 1: if you tried. But now you've got to come back
- 8:41Speaker 1: down from that and go play another SEC football game.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You're number eight now. There's a number next to your
- 8:47Speaker 1: name that everybody is noticing. You're going to get everybody's
- 8:52Speaker 1: best shot now. And Summerall's job is to make sure
- 8:55Speaker 1: that this football team understands that number eight doesn't mean
- 8:58Speaker 1: anything If you don't keep winning based on everything we've
- 9:02Speaker 1: seen from him so far, I don't think he's going
- 9:04Speaker 1: to have a hard time delivering that message because listen
- 9:07Speaker 1: to the way this guy talks after the biggest win
- 9:09Speaker 1: Florida's had in years. He wasn't standing at the podium
- 9:12Speaker 1: talking about how Florida had arrived. He basically said the
- 9:15Speaker 1: exact opposite. We're headed in the right direction, but we
- 9:18Speaker 1: haven't arrived yet. We have so much more room to grow.
- 9:21Speaker 1: That is exactly what you want your head coach saying,
- 9:24Speaker 1: because he is right. Florida hasn't arrived. It's September. Nobody
- 9:27Speaker 1: wins a championship in September. but you can show people
- 9:31Speaker 1: in September what you could become. And Florida's doing that.
- 9:35Speaker 1: And maybe that's what has me the most excited about this.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I don't think this team has played its best football yet.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Aaron Filo has been really efficient, but there is another
- 9:44Speaker 1: level there. The receivers can continue to develop. The defense
- 9:47Speaker 1: has areas that it definitely needs to get cleaned up.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Florida still missed some tackles. There were still moments defensively
- 9:54Speaker 1: where everybody's thinking like, all right, that could have been better.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Even against Ole Miss, this wasn't some flaw football game.
- 10:01Speaker 1: There was a lot of penalties. Needs to get cleaned
- 10:03Speaker 1: up too. And yet Florida beat the number four team
- 10:06Speaker 1: in the country by 24 points. That's the scary part.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Think about the penalties. Think about the defensive miscues. Think
- 10:12Speaker 1: about the points left on the table on Saturday and
- 10:14Speaker 1: Florida still beat the number four team in the country
- 10:17Speaker 1: by by 24 points. Imagine what this team looks like
- 10:23Speaker 1: if it keeps getting better. And now let's talk about
- 10:26Speaker 1: what John Summerall inherited. This isn't a five-year rebuild. Florida
- 10:29Speaker 1: has talent. We've said that. But having talent and maximizing
- 10:33Speaker 1: talent are two completely different things. The previous staff had
- 10:37Speaker 1: talented football players too. A lot of these same guys.
- 10:40Speaker 1: What Summerall and this staff appear to have done very
- 10:43Speaker 1: quickly is get everybody pulling in the same directions. Buster
- 10:48Speaker 1: Faulkner has completely changed the personality of this offense. Florida
- 10:51Speaker 1: wants to attack. They want explosive plays. They want to
- 10:54Speaker 1: run downhill. They want to dictate the terms. And Samuel
- 10:58Speaker 1: has brought that mentality to the entire football team. Look
- 11:02Speaker 1: at special teams. Look at the physicality. Look at the sideline.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Look at what happens when another team makes a run.
- 11:10Speaker 1: This Florida team doesn't look surprised when something good happens.
- 11:14Speaker 1: They look like they expected it to happen. That's a
- 11:16Speaker 1: culture change. Now let's put number eight in perspective. Florida
- 11:20Speaker 1: hasn't spent a lot of time in this neighborhood recently.
- 11:22Speaker 1: This is the highest Florida has been ranked in the
- 11:24Speaker 1: coaches poll since 2020. And now Florida is sitting right
- 11:28Speaker 1: there nationally with the programs that we talk about every
- 11:31Speaker 1: single week as playoff and championship contenders. Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame,
- 11:36Speaker 1: Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, Florida. That logo is back on
- 11:41Speaker 1: the first page of the rankings. And whether people around
- 11:45Speaker 1: the country like it or not, they have to talk
- 11:47Speaker 1: about the Gators again. Here's the other thing. Being number
- 11:51Speaker 1: eight changes the stakes of this entire season. Before this year,
- 11:55Speaker 1: the conversation was, how quickly can Coach Summerall rebuild Florida?
- 12:00Speaker 1: Now the conversation is becoming, how far can Florida go
- 12:04Speaker 1: this year? Those are two very different conversations. And that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: what Saturday did. It accelerated everything. You don't beat a
- 12:12Speaker 1: top five team 52 to 28 and then tell everybody
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're still rebuilding. No, you are competing right now, today.
- 12:21Speaker 1: The college football playoff conversation is real. I'm not saying
- 12:24Speaker 1: Florida's going to the playoffs. There are eight regular season
- 12:27Speaker 1: games left. This schedule still has some absolute monsters on it.
- 12:31Speaker 1: But Florida has earned the right to be in that conversation.
- 12:35Speaker 1: And I think that is the key word, earned. This
- 12:39Speaker 1: isn't preseason hype. This isn't recruiting rankings. This isn't somebody
- 12:43Speaker 1: telling us what Florida might be. We watched it. Four games,
- 12:47Speaker 1: four wins, two SEC wins, a top five win, a
- 12:50Speaker 1: win on the road, an offense averaging more than 53
- 12:55Speaker 1: points a game, a team that can run the football,
- 12:57Speaker 1: a team making plays on special teams, a quarterback taking
- 13:00Speaker 1: care of the ball, a coach who seemingly has his
- 13:03Speaker 1: entire program believing. You want national respect? That's how you
- 13:08Speaker 1: get it. And I know some Gator fans are probably
- 13:10Speaker 1: looking at number eight and saying, whew, that feels high.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And I get it. We have some football PTSD around here.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We have been hurt before. But Florida didn't vote itself
- 13:20Speaker 1: number eight. The AP voters did. The coaches did. These
- 13:24Speaker 1: people around college football are looking at what has happened
- 13:27Speaker 1: through four weeks and saying Florida belongs there. That is significant.
- 13:33Speaker 1: For years, Gator fans have complained about Florida not getting
- 13:37Speaker 1: enough national respect. Well, Here it is. Now you have
- 13:42Speaker 1: to hold on to it. And that is why Saturday's
- 13:44Speaker 1: win feels bigger than just one game. That game changed
- 13:49Speaker 1: Florida's national profile. It changed the conversation. It changed expectations.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And I'm going to say something that sounded crazy a
- 13:58Speaker 1: month ago. Florida football is nationally relevant again. And John
- 14:02Speaker 1: Summerall deserves a ton of credit for that. This isn't
- 14:05Speaker 1: year three. It's game four. Think about that. Game four
- 14:10Speaker 1: of the John Summerall era. Florida beat the number four
- 14:13Speaker 1: team in America by 24 points, moves into the top 10,
- 14:16Speaker 1: and earns that ranking. And now they enter the national
- 14:21Speaker 1: playoff conversation. What happens from here? I have no idea.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It's college football. Things change so fast. But I know this.
- 14:30Speaker 1: John Summerall told everybody when he got here that Florida
- 14:33Speaker 1: was a sleeping giant. After the Ole Miss win, he
- 14:36Speaker 1: said the giant isn't fully awake yet. Well, Number eight
- 14:39Speaker 1: in both polls, 4-0, 2-0 in the SEC, 214 points,
- 14:43Speaker 1: a top five win, and national media suddenly talking about
- 14:46Speaker 1: Florida as a playoff contender. If this is the giant
- 14:50Speaker 1: only starting to wake up, the rest of college football
- 14:54Speaker 1: might want to pay attention because John Summerall is the
- 14:56Speaker 1: real deal. Florida looks like the real deal. And for
- 15:00Speaker 1: the first time in a long time, the national media
- 15:02Speaker 1: looks like it's believing it too. Guys, let me know
- 15:06Speaker 1: what you think. Is number eight too high? Makes me nervous.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Does it make you nervous? Is it too low? You
- 15:11Speaker 1: could probably make that argument too based on quality wins.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Or is this exactly where Florida belongs right now? And
- 15:17Speaker 1: more importantly, after what you've seen through four games, how
- 15:20Speaker 1: high is the ceiling for this Florida football team? Make
