Utah files criminal charges against Kalshi and two executives
Utah Attorney General Derek Brown has brought criminal charges against Kalshi, along with its CEO, Tarek Mansour, and chief operating officer, Luana Lopes Lara. The allegations claim they encouraged unlawful online gambling and permitted an undercover investigator to make bets. Brown emphasized that labeling the transactions as a prediction market and securing federal registration does not exempt the business from Utah laws. A representative for Kalshi called the move “a crazy overreach” and stated the company is prepared to contest the charges in court.
