- 0:01Speaker 1: Gospel Reflection for the 26th day of October in the
- 0:04Speaker 1: year of our Lord, 2026. This is from the Gospel
- 0:09Speaker 1: of Luke, chapter 13, verses 10 through 17. And he
- 0:13Speaker 1: was teaching in their synagogue on the Sabbath. And behold,
- 0:16Speaker 1: there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity,
- 0:19Speaker 1: 18 years, and she was bowed together, neither could she
- 0:22Speaker 1: look upwards at all. Whom when Jesus saw, he called
- 0:26Speaker 1: her unto him and said to her, Woman, thou art
- 0:28Speaker 1: delivered from thy infirmity. And he laid hands upon her,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and immediately she was made straight and glorified God. And
- 0:35Speaker 1: the ruler of the synagogue, being angry that Jesus had
- 0:37Speaker 1: healed on the Sabbath, answering, said to the multitude, Six
- 0:41Speaker 1: days there are wherein you ought to work. In them, therefore,
- 0:46Speaker 1: come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And the Lord answering said, Ye hypocrites, doth not every
- 0:52Speaker 1: one of you on the Sabbath day loose his ox
- 0:54Speaker 1: or his ass from the manger and lead them to water?
- 0:57Speaker 1: And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath Bound, lo,
- 1:02Speaker 1: these eighteen years be loosed from this bond on the
- 1:05Speaker 1: Sabbath day. And when he said these things, all his
- 1:08Speaker 1: adversaries were ashamed. And the people rejoiced for all things
- 1:12Speaker 1: that were gloriously done by him. For all the things
- 1:16Speaker 1: that were gloriously done by him. So again, we see
- 1:19Speaker 1: the lack of compassion that was the result of the
- 1:21Speaker 1: Mosaic Law. The law was not bad in itself, quite
- 1:24Speaker 1: the opposite. The Bible makes clear that the law was
- 1:27Speaker 1: the salvation of the Jews. And it is praised as
- 1:30Speaker 1: the word of God. It may be hard for us
- 1:33Speaker 1: to understand now just how barbaric and savage the ancient
- 1:36Speaker 1: world was. The law of the Jews was not just
- 1:40Speaker 1: the regulations of their religion. It also allowed them to
- 1:43Speaker 1: live in relative peace and safety. Recently I was debating
- 1:47Speaker 1: with a pagan who took issue with the law saying
- 1:49Speaker 1: that the God of the Jews and Christians authorized slavery.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I pointed out to him that all peoples on earth
- 1:56Speaker 1: for millennia practiced slavery. The remarkable aspect of the Mosaic
- 2:00Speaker 1: Law was codifying basic human rights for slaves. This was
- 2:05Speaker 1: absolutely revolutionary in the ancient world. Every other tribe, slaves
- 2:11Speaker 1: were considered as mere property. They could be used, abused, tortured,
- 2:15Speaker 1: killed with no penalty. But the Hebrews, at least, viewed
- 2:19Speaker 1: slaves as human. Now, sure, it would have been ideal
- 2:22Speaker 1: if God, through Moses, had forbidden slavery, but humanity was
- 2:26Speaker 1: really not yet to that point. Slavery was a fact
- 2:29Speaker 1: of life. In the Middle Ages, the so-called Dark Ages,
- 2:33Speaker 1: according to modernists, the Catholic Church did indeed forbid slavery.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It was the concept of the nation-state that was introduced
- 2:41Speaker 1: by Protestantism that brought slavery back through colonialism. Kings no
- 2:47Speaker 1: longer submitted to the rule of the Church. Even then,
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Catholic Church demanded that Christians treat slaves with at
- 2:53Speaker 1: least a basic level of humanity. But no longer being
- 2:56Speaker 1: under the rule of the Pope, most refused and did
- 2:58Speaker 1: as they pleased. The Dark Ages were far more humane
- 3:02Speaker 1: in terms of human rights than the so-called Enlightenment. While
- 3:06Speaker 1: we're taught that mankind is progressing towards some modernist secular ideal,
- 3:11Speaker 1: that's far from the truth. We've been falling back into
- 3:15Speaker 1: ignorance and barbarism since the Protestant so-called Reformation. Until the
- 3:19Speaker 1: world submits to the Catholic Church, the head of which
- 3:22Speaker 1: is Jesus Christ, humanity We'll live in ignorance, error, violence,
- 3:27Speaker 1: and evil. It's not enough to obey. We must... Let
- 3:33Speaker 1: me try that again. It's not enough to believe. We
- 3:36Speaker 1: must obey. Jesus said, if you love me, you will
- 3:40Speaker 1: keep my commandments. And what are the highest commandments of God?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor
- 3:47Speaker 1: as yourself. You can't love your neighbor as yourself and,
- 3:50Speaker 1: you know, treat someone... as a slave or as an item,
- 3:55Speaker 1: an object to be used. So, it's not enough to believe,
- 4:00Speaker 1: we must obey. Y'all have a good one, and I'll
- 4:03Speaker 1: talk to you tomorrow.
