- 0:12Welcome back football fans to Gridiron Updates.
- 0:17I'm the second best host next to my man, Tyler.
- 0:23Yeah, here I am. We're working the AFC South
- 0:26right now. They've cut another video. This is
- 0:28second of. Or third of the four. Third of the
- 0:31four of the night. We're going to go through
- 0:35the AFC South now. For sure. We've got Facebook
- 0:38Live going on here too. If we get a couple comments
- 0:41about questions, we'll interrupt into it too.
- 0:44Let's fire off. Let's go with the team I think
- 0:49is the Cleveland Browns of your AFC North, Jacksonville
- 0:56Jaguars. First round draft pick, Mr. Travis Hunter.
- 1:02Is he going to change the day? New O .C. Cohen
- 1:06from the Bucks who paid a bunch of money to get
- 1:08him. Duval. Duval. That annoys me, but they finished
- 1:12last year at 4 -13. And this year I have them
- 1:17at 9 -8. Whoa, 9 -8. I have them as a drastic
- 1:21difference as well, but 9 -8. That's where I'm
- 1:24going with it. I just think the new offensive
- 1:26coordinator, I still have a little belief in
- 1:29Lawrence. But I'm really interested in Sunshine.
- 1:34Old movie reference if you guys don't watch football
- 1:36movies. Better watch that one. That's a great
- 1:38one. That is the best one probably in my book.
- 1:40Yeah, I would agree. I would agree. Yeah, so
- 1:43ETN's back. They have Brian Thomas Jr. who came
- 1:47off an awesome rookie year. So offensively, I
- 1:50think they have everything they need. It's all
- 1:53about defense. They gave up a little over 25
- 1:56a game last year. Sacks, they weren't great.
- 1:59We'll see if... Walker comes back. He was the
- 2:03number one two years ago, I think now, or three?
- 2:06Was he the number one overall? Well, he was a
- 2:07top three. He was up there. He was up there.
- 2:09You expect big things out of him. 100%. Nine
- 2:12and eight, where are you at with them there,
- 2:14Smelty? I also have them improving this season.
- 2:17I have them going up to seven and ten. Seven
- 2:20and ten. Okay. I do have them improving. That
- 2:23puts them. Second in division, actually, at 7
- 2:26-10. For me, it's a fairly weak division. I'm
- 2:29excited to hear the rest of it now. If at 7 -10
- 2:33they finish second. Yeah, no. So I would agree.
- 2:37I have a sliver of hope left for Trevor Lawrence.
- 2:42Again, Travis, ETN being there, I love what he
- 2:45brings, what Tank Bigsby kind of brings the opposite.
- 2:48So it's a nice little one -two punch. Curious
- 2:52to see how Travis Hunter is used. You know, currently,
- 2:54again, I'm using obviously the best depth chart
- 2:59software around ESPN. You're mine. Yeah, Travis
- 3:03Hunter has him, you know, as the number two receiver
- 3:06starting, but then has him as the second corner
- 3:09right now. Okay. Behind Jerrion Jones. Do you
- 3:15think he's a better corner receiver in your book?
- 3:18Good question. Dude's a ridiculous athlete. Agreed.
- 3:22I'm not saying he's not. I was 50 -50 on the
- 3:24Heisman, but looking at what he did, and we won't
- 3:27get into the Heisman debate because that's a
- 3:28whole different pod. But looking at what he did
- 3:33and what he was able to do at such a high level,
- 3:35it's impressive. I'm really curious to see what
- 3:39he'll be able to bring. If they're going to design
- 3:41packages around him, I'd assume they are offensively.
- 3:45But to answer your question, I want to say offensively,
- 3:49he's a little bit more of a weapon. Weapon or
- 3:55better? Skill -wise, if I had to pick which way,
- 3:59then a cornerback is really what I'm asking.
- 4:02I'm not saying is he going to do better on offense.
- 4:04I'd start him at corner over receiver. Agreed.
- 4:06I think he's way better corner than he is on
- 4:09offense. Definitely, he gets 25 plays on offense.
- 4:12Wouldn't surprise me. Gets 10 touches that are
- 4:15really designed, but you've got to throw him
- 4:17in for another 15 just for decoy reasons. And
- 4:22then on defense, if he's He's playing 50. Is
- 4:24he playing 80 snaps a game? And he's not the
- 4:28biggest. He's not Debo. He's not Percy in body
- 4:33size. So that's to me the interesting part. Can
- 4:38you use him anywhere when he's on the sideline
- 4:40the whole year? So that's where I'm kind of interesting
- 4:44on that. But I still 9 -8. I think they're a
- 4:48better team. Their O -line is good. That wasn't
- 4:51an issue last year. I think it's defensively
- 4:54and just Lawrence being consistent and. Not starting
- 4:58off bad. I don't know who they play against right
- 5:01away. But I feel like the last couple of years
- 5:04since they made the playoff run, they've just
- 5:06had horrible beginnings. They have a winnable
- 5:08game for their first game. They play against
- 5:10Carolina at home in Jacksonville. I think that'll
- 5:13be a good matchup for both teams, actually. Because
- 5:15Carolina, I don't think, is going to have that
- 5:17bad of a season either. But we'll touch on them
- 5:20next week. And then Jacksonville travels to Cincinnati.
- 5:24That's tough. And then Houston. and then at San
- 5:28Francisco, and then Kansas City. That's a tough
- 5:31stretch to start the season. If you can escape...
- 5:36Out of week five with two wins, honestly, if
- 5:38I'm Jacksonville, I feel better than what the
- 5:41record looks like. You know what I mean? Agreed.
- 5:43Agreed. Or sneak one and then get three and three.
- 5:46Because later in the season, you got the likes
- 5:49of Las Vegas. You got the Chargers, who I'm not
- 5:51sold on as a Chargers fan. Okay. You got Arizona,
- 5:54Tennessee, Indianapolis, the Jets. These are
- 5:57all winnable games. So you play Indy and the
- 6:00Titans obviously twice. So those are winnable
- 6:03games that I expect Jacksonville to be competitive
- 6:05in and probably win. So I think they get most
- 6:08of their wins on the back half of their season.
- 6:11But, yeah, that's a tough way to start. And keep
- 6:13morale up if you're 2 -5. But, again, I think
- 6:17if you're 2 -5 somehow through that first five
- 6:19weeks, or I'm sorry, for that first seven weeks,
- 6:22I'm sorry. I'm sorry, two and three. I want to
- 6:26say if you can get two wins out of the first
- 6:28five weeks, that's what I'm trying to say. I
- 6:30was picking on what you were pointing out. Don't
- 6:31worry. You were smelling. I was stepping. So
- 6:33where did you have them finishing? Seven and
- 6:35ten. Seven and ten. And I had them nine and eight.
- 6:37So write that down, football fans. Slight discrepancy.
- 6:40Okay. Okay. Okay. All right. So, yeah, for me,
- 6:42it's just offense and then the defense needs
- 6:44to step up. But we'll move on to another team
- 6:46I think that needs to step up is the old Tennessee
- 6:48Titans. Drafted Cam Ward, number one overall.
- 6:53Finished three. 14 last year i have them finishing
- 6:57at a 4 and 12 um 4 and 13 4 and 13 um math's
- 7:04a little slow here but they finished 3 and 14
- 7:07last year i just don't think they have enough
- 7:09yet offensive line they did upgrade a few uh
- 7:13so offensively with lockett but i just don't
- 7:16know if there's enough yet To get him over. And
- 7:19they added Van Jefferson, right? He wasn't there
- 7:21last year. But that guy doesn't really win me
- 7:23over. Calvin Ridley, if he can stay on the freaking
- 7:26field. Tony Pollard hasn't done anything since
- 7:29he left Dallas, really. So I have them at 4 -12.
- 7:31Where are you leaning at right now? For the Titans,
- 7:34I have them at 5 -12. You got them at 4 -13.
- 7:374 -13. I got them at 5 -12. I think there's a
- 7:41little improvement. I think Cam Ward. Has the
- 7:44potential to be better than what Levis has given
- 7:46them. You know, I feel better for the Titans
- 7:49starting Cam Ward over Will Levis. Obviously,
- 7:52Levis done for the season, I believe. Yeah, he
- 7:57is done for the season. Cam Ward's another athlete.
- 8:00I'm just curious what he's going to look like
- 8:04extending the play in the NFL. I think that's
- 8:06going to be his. best ability and then again
- 8:09his best ability will be availability don't don't
- 8:11go pull an anthony richardson yeah you know um
- 8:14do you feel like they are pretty much the same
- 8:18player cam ward and anthony richardson you know
- 8:20like their style like if i watched their college
- 8:23tape it's just a lot of similarities from florida
- 8:27and miami it's just extending the play a lot
- 8:31it did make a ton of accurate good throws He
- 8:36had a good season last year. He had a great season
- 8:37last year. But it's that NFL, you know, it's
- 8:42not taking the big hit. And I've seen him in
- 8:46his college take a couple. I mean, with any running
- 8:49quarterback coming into the league, we always
- 8:51say the same thing. You know, you've got to protect
- 8:53your body, protect your body. That's what we
- 8:54were looking for from AR last year. At moments,
- 8:57yes. At moments, no. So that's the biggest thing
- 9:00for me. That and, you know, can he be consistent
- 9:02early? This is another schedule, I believe, that's.
- 9:06No, okay, no. This is a competitive schedule
- 9:09for them. They open at Denver. That sucks. That's
- 9:12an L. They then play the Rams. That's probably
- 9:15an L. But now they have a competitive game against
- 9:18Indianapolis. They travel to Houston, probably
- 9:20an L. But now you've got two away games at Arizona,
- 9:23at Las Vegas. Those are competitive for the Titans.
- 9:26I truly believe they can compete in those games.
- 9:28Compete by still being there and lose. Maybe,
- 9:31maybe. I don't know what kind of team Arizona
- 9:33is going to be. Las Vegas? Yeah, we'll get to
- 9:35Las Vegas. vegas uh in the next episode actually
- 9:37and honestly i think for me on the tennessee
- 9:39aspect is defensively they need more sacks um
- 9:43they lost landry uh they did pick up um the monte
- 9:47jones from seattle they still got jeffrey simmons
- 9:49in the middle so he's but i don't know yeah secondary
- 9:53doesn't scare me a ton yeah xavier woods brownlee
- 9:57sneed um yeah so i think they were hurt a bunch
- 10:01on the backside too last year early so Amari
- 10:05Hooker is another one they got back there. So
- 10:07the defense needs to play better. And if they
- 10:10can't establish the run. with Pollard. They do
- 10:13have a bunch of upgrades. They did get Ziegler
- 10:15from the Lions. They got J .C. Latham draft pick
- 10:18last year. Which is nice. And Dan Moore from
- 10:21Pittsburgh. That's building in the trenches.
- 10:23They did upgrade. There's got to be some proof
- 10:28in the pudding right now for me. I don't think
- 10:30it'll be there right now. I'm not too excited.
- 10:32Fair enough. It's hard for a rookie quarterback
- 10:35to start in the NFL. You don't get a Jaden Daniels
- 10:38year very often. Especially in some of these
- 10:40situations. You know what I mean? Obviously,
- 10:42being the best quarterback coming out of college,
- 10:45you're going to go high in the draft to the worst
- 10:47team. So it's always going to be those situations
- 10:49that we see year in and year out. So, obviously,
- 10:52we're hoping that Cam Moore doesn't just become
- 10:54a statistic in that aspect. I mean, I wish the
- 10:58best for that. For sure. So where were we at?
- 11:01Four and three. Give me your number on them.
- 11:04Yeah, five and 12. Five and 12. All right, we're
- 11:08going to go back to probably my favorite guy
- 11:11on the Internet right now who does his little
- 11:13song with Indianapolis Colts. Have you seen that
- 11:16guy? No. Oh, it's pretty hilarious. He does like
- 11:18a horsey. Oh, boy. Yeah, you'll have to check
- 11:23it out. So, yeah, they were 8 -9 last year, kind
- 11:27of in the middle of the road. This year is starting
- 11:30off a little different with Flacco getting named.
- 11:32Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones named the starter.
- 11:35I feel like they're just the same guys. 8 -9.
- 11:38I haven't finished 8 -9 again. 17th in offense.
- 11:43They still got JT. Didn't necessarily get any
- 11:46worse, but a lot of veterans have got to stay
- 11:48healthy. Especially on the defensive side, that's
- 11:51healthy -wise. But where you got them right now?
- 11:54I have them taking a step back. Yeah, Daniel
- 11:58Jones named the starter the other day over Anthony
- 12:01Richardson. I have no doubt we'll see Anthony
- 12:03Richardson again. Although I heard an interesting
- 12:06take. Okay, sorry, I'm going off topic. I have
- 12:08them at 6 -11. Okay. Did you just change that
- 12:11mid -sentence? Nope, 6 and 11 right here. He
- 12:13has it written down. Yeah, it's right here. Typed
- 12:17up. But what I was going to say about Anthony
- 12:19Richardson, some of the stuff I was listening
- 12:21to earlier this week, some people are saying,
- 12:22you know, maybe his time at quarterback could
- 12:26be ending, but. Could open up at a different
- 12:29position because he's such an athlete. I'm like,
- 12:31I don't know. I think he can still be a quarterback
- 12:33in the league. That's the internet just being
- 12:34bored. I mean, if you're on X these days, the
- 12:36amount of what ifs that I see is on full throttle
- 12:43right now. That's the internet in general. Yeah.
- 12:44Every team needs a trade for this guy. I mean,
- 12:48constant over and over. They don't have anything
- 12:52that scares me a ton this year, honestly. I mean,
- 12:55JT in the backfield, that's always scary to see.
- 12:58That's it. Same old line. They did get Tyler
- 13:02Warner from Penn State that I really like as
- 13:04tight end. I think it's all about defense for
- 13:07me. Franklin. Beast. Forrest Buckner obviously
- 13:13up there in age as well. They did get Arbinum
- 13:16from the Vikings. Ward from the 49ers. Which
- 13:19I like those ads. They just picked up Xavier
- 13:22Howard the other day. I didn't even notice. Duke
- 13:26Shelley's. their second right corner right now
- 13:29yeah duke shelly oh god yeah they just need to
- 13:32get after the quarterback they were like last
- 13:34very low in sacks last year um they gave up a
- 13:38ton of points gave up a ton of yards so that's
- 13:41why i got them a middle of the road at eight
- 13:43nine i think their offense is decent enough to
- 13:45win half of the games and they're you know our
- 13:49offense is good enough to win half of the game
- 13:50so What do you got on that? A 6 -11. 6 -11. I
- 13:54think Jonathan Taylor needs to go over 100 yards
- 13:56every game to have a chance to win. for me for
- 14:00the colts yeah i mean he needs to get in the
- 14:02end zone too he only had four teddies last year
- 14:04yeah no for sure you know anybody 14 fantasy
- 14:07yeah losing their mind on 1400 yards four seems
- 14:10really low so that i mean that's red zone numbers
- 14:12there you know so we'll see it'll be interesting
- 14:16on the quarterback aspect so but uh let's move
- 14:19on to probably i think my division winner i think
- 14:23i had him last year too I would hope so. The
- 14:27Houston Texans, 10 -7 last year. I got them 11
- 14:33-9. Where are you at with them? I'll let you
- 14:35fire away with your thoughts. I have them taking
- 14:37a giant leap forward, 13 -4. That's the team
- 14:42I have tied for second in the division with Baltimore.
- 14:47A couple of those wins I have Houston getting
- 14:49are wins against the Bills and at the Chargers.
- 14:53I think the Texans. They're definitely a playoff
- 14:58team. Are they a contender? I think an outside
- 15:01contender, like outside bubble contender. They're
- 15:04like the Redskins almost? Kind of, yeah. I don't
- 15:07think we thought of the Redskins. But I think
- 15:08they're better than the Commanders. I think they're
- 15:13right below the Chiefs for me. Because the Chiefs
- 15:15dropped a little bit for me this year. And we'll
- 15:17touch on them again next episode. Another tough
- 15:20division, by the way, West. But C .J. Stroud
- 15:24really... well, he started bad last year, you
- 15:28know, but they ended better. I can't remember.
- 15:31Injuries. Injuries was their big thing last year.
- 15:34I mean, they lost Diggs pretty much right away.
- 15:37Collins, or Nico Collins, who I have him. As
- 15:40soon as they lost him, too, that was bad. You
- 15:43know, they had Joe Mixon, Levin Tutty is over
- 15:461 ,000. I guess C .J. Stroud did regress a little
- 15:50bit. Offensive line was, you know, one of their,
- 15:54their biggest issue. I would have, you know,
- 15:57so they did it on picking a gopher up in the
- 16:01second round, the old tackle. And then they picked
- 16:04up Cam Robinson, too. Yeah, so they did do some
- 16:07upgrade on the offense line where they needed
- 16:09to do an upgrade. Defensively, you know, they
- 16:13were six yards a game, second in INTs, fourth
- 16:19in sacks. You know, you got Will Anderson, you
- 16:21still got Hunter. Yeah, LaShere, that linebacker,
- 16:26I remember him against the Vikings. And then
- 16:29you probably might have one of the best cornerbacks
- 16:31in Stingler and Lannister. They're backside.
- 16:37They did get C .J. Gardner -Johnson, too. No,
- 16:43their secondary is pretty solid. Defensively
- 16:45as a whole, they're solid. Will Anderson's a
- 16:47freak. I mean, shoot, Mario Edwards isn't bad
- 16:50either. Obviously, they got Daniil there. That
- 16:53linebacker out of Alabama. Will Anderson. Are
- 16:57you talking about him? No, Henry. Oh, 2 -2. Yeah,
- 17:00that fella. He's solid, too. Al Shayer. I mean,
- 17:04that dude, as dirty as he can be sometimes, that
- 17:07dude is so freaking aggressive. I'll take him
- 17:09on my football team. I will, too. That's the
- 17:11thing. I know. the thing i would example so yeah
- 17:15defensively they're they're top top defensive
- 17:18team for me in the league probably this year
- 17:20um one of the top not the top uh and gonna be
- 17:25a force to reckon with in the playoffs i i this
- 17:27is a team i would not want to see come playoff
- 17:29time again if they're fully healthy nico collins
- 17:32of tank dell can get healthy you know Watch out.
- 17:35Yeah, and see what we got out of Tank, because
- 17:36didn't Tank have a bad knee injury to come out
- 17:38of there? Yeah. So, yeah, I think injury, I think
- 17:41all I have is a lot. They need a running back,
- 17:43man. You don't like Mixon still? I do, but it's
- 17:46like he doesn't play all the time. Fair. That's
- 17:49the position, too. Running back's tough to stay
- 17:51healthy. So I think you need, I mean, Nick Chubb's
- 17:53on a bad number, too, but it's. I don't know.
- 17:56Does he have anything left in the tank? That's
- 17:58what I mean. I'm not sure. Because last year
- 17:59in Cleveland, he didn't look very explosive.
- 18:02But, hey, you got another full year after that
- 18:04knee injury two years ago. So, you know, he's
- 18:07a grinder. So I could see him definitely stepping
- 18:09up his game. So, yeah. Another good couple tight
- 18:14ends, too. Yeah, that team's solid. Kevin, where
- 18:16are we at here? Perfectly? Perfect. So, yeah,
- 18:21we got Texans. I think we're about the same.
- 18:24Who do you have finishing second in this? In
- 18:26this division? Yep. Jacksonville. Jacksonville.
- 18:29I think I did, too. So Houston wins it by a good
- 18:32margin. Yep. And then I have Colts, and then
- 18:34I think Titans on the bottom. Yep. Same as me.
- 18:38You have anything else you want to add to the
- 18:40AFC South? No. Not the strongest. Houston definitely
- 18:44in the winter. Yeah, for sure. Coming out. For
- 18:45sure. You know? So, yeah, that's kind of where
- 18:48we both have it. So that'll wrap up the AFC South.
