- 0:00Let's get to the highlights of Yukon's twelve to one victory. They scored to
- 0:03the bottom of the first when Corey Morton had an infield hits down the third
- 0:07base line that planted Jake Studley, who led the game off by getting hit
- 0:12by a pitch, and then they would start putting up some crooked numbers.
- 0:15They would get three runs in the second inning. The first RBI came in
- 0:22actually the inning and actually was all done with well, not two outs,
- 0:25with one out. It started with a Matt Garbowski reaching on an era and
- 0:29then a Matt Malcolm fly battle right field before mes Madx DeLanda walked, and
- 0:34then a fielder's choice by Caleb spur It brought off the leadoff hinner, Jake
- 0:38Studley, who would give Yukon a three to nothing lead. As Studley awaits
- 0:44the payoff pitch, here it comes, fastball rapped up the right center that's
- 0:47gonna go all the way to the water base hit one. Hopper scores one,
- 0:51Jimmy Penner said to the runner home from second. Here's the thrown out
- 0:54in time. It's up the line, two out single for Jake Studley.
- 1:00It's a right center field and that would make it three to nothing. Stuntley
- 1:04would score on a Brian Pediat base hit, so Yukon with a four to
- 1:10nothing lead through two innings, and then they would tack on a fifth run
- 1:15in the third inning, and it was the Stafford native Luke Bronhurst and what
- 1:19will be the first of a big day for him. That's where it just
- 1:23doesn't connect. Here's the pitch of swinging in a loud fly ball left center
- 1:26field. This has got some good carry Gregor's back at the track. It's
- 1:30over the bullpen in left center field. That's uncharted territory. Here it stores
- 1:38an absolute bomb from Broadhurst. It's not a walk off, Bob, but
- 1:42it gets you kind of going again here in the third that was a leadoff
- 1:46home run that made it five to nothing, and it stayed that way for
- 1:49a while. Brian scored their only run on the fourth inning on a Carmine
- 1:53Paedosa RBI single after Brayden Duran had a one out single and then went to
- 2:00second on a wild pitch. We stayed that way until the sixth inning,
- 2:06when the Huskies played a run on a base hit by Mannix to Lana.
- 2:09Actually would be an RBI double that brought Matt Malcolm in from first base and
- 2:15the Huskies up the lead to six to one at this point. Then they
- 2:20would play four in the seventh inning. It started with a lion. All
- 2:23the hits, by the way, were loud off the bat for the Huskies,
- 2:27and the seventh inning they played at a said eight man to the plate.
- 2:30Luke brought Heurst with an RBI with a double to get things going for
- 2:34the Huskies and for Broughdhurst his fifth multi hit game of the season. Garbowski
- 2:38lined the first, then a walk for Matt Malcolm and then it was Mannix
- 2:43to Lena's turn to extend the Huskies lead. Delaana swaying in a rope line
- 2:47drive to right field. It's being fought by Baru because he dives and he
- 2:52can't Hauliday in one run home. It's second for Delayna on a double on
- 3:00Hurst scores Groans to third and the Huskies extend the lead to seven to one.
- 3:06They would play four in that inning and get the lead to ten to
- 3:09one, and then we go to the eighth in thing, which turned out
- 3:13to be the last inning of the ball game tomorrow. It off with a
- 3:15double down the third base line and then with one out, Luke Brodhurst would
- 3:20end it with a walk off the leftfielder. Smith is deep as well,
- 3:23pitch swag on a drill the left field. This one's going back and that's
- 3:29going into the pend Touch them all. Luke Brodhurst's multi home run day from
- 3:37the Stafford Springs dative as he rips one to left and the Huskies make it
- 3:44twelve to one and that ends the ballgame and for Broadhurst a two home run
- 3:52day as coach Jim Penders has joined us up here in the booth and boy,
- 3:55it had to be nice. She gets some nice warm weather today and
- 3:59the bats came up live. Yeah, it felt like Elliott Ballpark today for
- 4:01sure. Guys swung the bats well and you know we uh Luke had Luke
- 4:09got the game ball and the hustle double was just as impressive for me as
- 4:12the two home runs. You know, he's going hard out of the box.
- 4:14He was able to get the second base on that ground ball that goes
- 4:16off the glove of the infielder and he played the right way. We able
- 4:19to score two runs from first base on a single because guys are running hard,
- 4:24so we're playing good Husky baseball today. Overall. Was always pleased with
- 4:27the effort and happy with our bullpen too. Yeah, guys, they did
- 4:30a good job offensively. In the seventh inning. There was not a cheap
- 4:33swing of the bat. Every ball hit was was a loud one. Yeah,
- 4:38the outs were too. You know, the emphasis is just hey,
- 4:41hit it hard, hit it hard. I hear the guys saying that all
- 4:43the time, just hit it hard and good things will happen. And you
- 4:46know, those first two outs, it's like, well, are they really
- 4:47going to happen? Sure enough, eventually the baseball guys it evens out and
- 4:50and we did. We hit some balls really hard on that ending. The
- 4:53only negatives. We are trying to get Tommy Turner in his game, and
- 4:56they hit pinch hit a bunch of lefties there, and West says in the
- 5:00we knew that it's a ten run rule today, and it's like, all
- 5:01right, well, we're not going to hold up the runner. We're gonna
- 5:04try to score ten. We know we're gonna keep trying to score. But
- 5:08Tommy Turner was gonna come in. He's he's only throwing a third of an
- 5:10ang. We got to get him back out there and and but now he's
- 5:13got to be ready for tomorrow. Boy, I'm impressed by Caleb Spur what
- 5:15he's brought. And the kid's got wheels. He can really run. He
- 5:19knows how to use his speed too. We have some other guys that can
- 5:21really run, but don't they're not as a depth at using it. And
- 5:27he he knows how to steal a base. If there's one complaint I have
- 5:30with him, he's gonna get a little bit better at his bunt game a
- 5:32little. You know, you saw that today a little bit with the with
- 5:34the buns for a hit and no one when to do it, what to
- 5:36do with it. But he really knows how to use it once he gets
- 5:40the first base and and and he also made a hell of a catch in
- 5:45center field at the second inning. I mean that that kind of got shilled.
- 5:46I mean, Shiulder was in a bad place, you know, starting
- 5:49not ending off with with a four pitch walk and then I think it was
- 5:51two oho on that swing and and he makes it, makes a tough catch
- 5:56look easy. He also ran one down in the right center gap, made
- 6:00some nice nice plays and he's kind of solidified center field, you know,
- 6:04I've been happy, really happy with the way that he plays defense, and
- 6:08I think the bat's starting to come along. And you know, he wasn't
- 6:11a Division three Player of the Year candidate for nothing last year. I think
- 6:14he's just starting to get more comfortable. You're seeing better swings from him and
- 6:17more plate coverage of every pitch, so hopefully he can keep keep going in
- 6:20that direction. Speaking of Shield, you went out and had a word with
- 6:24him, and sometimes you do this, We've seen it on occasion to just
- 6:27to kind of get him settled in. And it seemed like after that he
- 6:30got settled in after the catch of the chat you had with Yeah, it
- 6:33was after the catch more than the chat. You know that. I don't
- 6:38do that very often, and I asked, coach, may you want to
- 6:41use one here because I wasn't happy with the way he was throwing it.
- 6:43He's he's nursing a little bit of a hip thing, but it's just he
- 6:46doesn't look like the same aggressor that he was. You know, out at
- 6:50UC Irvine. We've seen him tiptoe into games. And he's not the only
- 6:54one. You know, We've got a couple of the guys, you know,
- 6:57Tommy Ellison's kind of tiptoed in a couple of let's see good stuff,
- 7:00because when we're inside and we're playing against you, when our guys are inner
- 7:02squatting, you're letting it rip like nothing bad can happen. And that's I
- 7:06mean, you don't put the hammer down, put the pedal down to the
- 7:11medal, and you're throwing eighty six on the first pitch of the game when
- 7:14we know you have eighty nine ninety in easy and even in ninety one to
- 7:17ninety two. When we're inside against start guys, that's very frustrating to watch.
- 7:21So you just you know if you are on your heels, you're gonna
- 7:25get punched in the mouth. And fortunately he didn't get punched too badly today
- 7:29and we got him out of there before any damage could occur, any real
- 7:31damage. But we got to be the aggressors on the mound, just like
- 7:34like we are in the batter's box and you said the bullpen and you only
- 7:36pitch four today, and they gave you good innings. They did really well.
- 7:40Quinn. You know, he'll obviously be down once we used them,
- 7:43and all those lefties in the lineup. It was kind of the game was
- 7:46kind of in the balance there. We needed to score a few more runs,
- 7:48needed a couple innings of shutdown stuff, and he certainly did that.
- 7:51I could have done without the two lead off walks from him, but he
- 7:55that doesn't rattle him anymore. A year ago it would have. And he's
- 7:58really mature. He's his stuff is excellent. He's made himself into a to
- 8:01a prospect now. I mean, the scouts are coming to see him,
- 8:05and he's gonna have it all goes well here down the stretch the second half
- 8:07of the season. He's gonna he's gonna be making some money to play baseball,
- 8:11which is which is pretty cool considering where he was. You know,
- 8:13eleven months ago, when's the last time you played Maiden. It's it's been
- 8:18a really long time. Coach Costa Koppolis was the coach. I think Coach
- 8:20McDonald was the winning pitcher. And I believe it was a frigid I mean
- 8:26twenty eight twenty nine degrees across the street at Jao Christian. They were coming
- 8:31back from a spring trip or somewhere. They might have played Sigarette Heart the
- 8:33day before and were rained out down there or snowed out and somehow we were
- 8:39able to get the game, and it was, uh, it was a
- 8:41good one. I remember being tight, and I remember Josh pitching really well.
- 8:46He was recruited there and he had the ball and did a really nice
- 8:48job. But it was a as you know, a great rivalry in the
- 8:52sixties in the seventies and some legendary names you know in the in those programs.
- 8:58I mean, obviously in the eighties, Maine had a really great,
- 9:01great run of College World Series. They have a really tradition rich program,
- 9:05and uh, we're looking forward to it and coach Derby has done a very
- 9:07good job kind of resuscitate not that it needed resuscitating, but he's he's breathed
- 9:13some new life into it and they had a really good year last year.
- 9:16Not off to the same start this year, but he does a very good
- 9:18He's an excellent coach. I've known him a long time, and we're happy
- 9:22to have them coming and hopefully we can you know, turn the page and
- 9:24you know, midnight comes and it's on to the Black Bears. We can't
- 9:28be basking in uh in this wind too long. There's another opponent coming in
- 9:33trying to knock us off. So you're benging three fifty eight here? Who
- 9:37told you that? What do you think? I don't know Chones to listen
- 9:43to Jonesy No, but you look good though, you got going there.
- 9:48We had the short sleeves out to the Sun's out, guns out, but
- 9:50they short sleeves today. Hopefully we can keep short sleeves on in stores for
- 9:54a little while longer. Forecast doesn't look too good this weekend, though it
- 9:56doesn't. But I can be hopeful and optimism for sure. There's always a
- 10:01pleasure. And hopefully you stay tonight to watch a little celebration. Yes,
- 10:05by pretty awesome what they've what they've been able to accomplish with Coach Early and
- 10:09his staff. I mean, come on, Honey and Luke and the guys,
- 10:13I mean, they just do an awesome job and the preparation and he
- 10:16is mastered, you know, as a coach. He just I'm in awe
- 10:22really, I mean, because he's mastered the modern psyche. You know,
- 10:26he's not afraid to talk about his emotions, make himself vulnerable, but he's
- 10:28also very demanding, and those guys play their hearts out for him. They
- 10:31just play so darn hard. They're never stopping. They they defense on offense.
- 10:37They just love him. I mean it's obvious, you know he challenges
- 10:41him, but he he loves them too. Like that's that oozes out of
- 10:46that program, is that it's a mutual respect and it's real. And yeah,
- 10:50it was. It was awesome to watch last night, and I was
- 10:54glad that we came out. We we didn't look too cleary eyed and were
- 10:58able to put up some runs. But uh, I'm sure all of our
- 11:00guys were watching it till the music played at the end there, and but
- 11:05it's thrilling. It's just it's such an honor to share campus with those two
- 11:09basketball programs in particular. But what a night for UKON nation. Yeah.
- 11:15One of the great things about these three teams, the coaching staffs have all
- 11:18stayed together. Danny's kept his guys. You've kept your crew for a while,
- 11:22Gios kept him and CD together. Yeah, it's wild. That's part
- 11:24of the reason why. Right Well, i'd like to think so, I
- 11:26mean, anytime we can be mentioned in the same breath as those two programs,
- 11:30but yeah, that's the continuity, and let's just hope we can continue
- 11:33that, right, I mean, I really hope he's a lifer here because
- 11:37it's just special watching him and his guys work, and you know he also
- 11:41respects has come before. I've seen that too. It's not like this is,
- 11:46you know, and he said it. For the last thirty years,
- 11:48you know, we've run college basketball. And he couldn't be more
