- Lucas: Hey there, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 143! That's a good number. So last time we were asking for directions in the park, right? Lucas: Exactly, we learned '¿Dónde está el baño?' and a few directional words. Today we're going to expand on that a little. Luna: Oh great, because I still get lost in parks. Let me guess — we'll learn how to ask where the playground is? Lucas: You read my mind. So first, let's practice the question pattern. '¿Dónde está...?' means 'Where is...?' So if you want to ask where the playground is, you say '¿Dónde está el parque infantil?' Luna: ¿Dónde está el parque infantil? That's a mouthful. Parque infantil… infantile park. I can remember that. Lucas: Good. Say it with me: '¿Dónde está el parque infantil?' Luna: ¿Dónde está el parque infantil? Lucas: Perfect. Now, you might also need to ask for the exit. That's '¿Por dónde se va a la salida?' — 'Which way to the exit?' Luna: That's longer. '¿Por dónde se va a la salida?' How do I break that down? Lucas: Sure. 'Por dónde' means 'which way', 'se va' is 'one goes', 'a la salida' is 'to the exit'. So literally 'by where does one go to the exit?' Luna: Oh okay, that makes sense. ¿Por dónde se va a la salida? Lucas: You've got it. Now, the answers — we already know 'a la derecha' and 'a la izquierda', right? Right and left. Luna: Yeah, a la derecha, a la izquierda. And 'todo recto' for straight ahead. Lucas: Exactly. So let's put it together. Let's say you're at the park and you ask someone: 'Disculpe, ¿dónde está el baño?' Luna: Disculpe, ¿dónde está el baño? — Excuse me, where is the bathroom? Lucas: And they might answer: 'A la derecha, al lado de la fuente.' — 'To the right, next to the fountain.' Luna: A la derecha, al lado de la fuente. So 'al lado de' means 'next to'? Lucas: Exactly. We'll practice that another time. For now, let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're at the park with a friend and you want to find the playground. Luna: Okay, I'll be me. I say: 'Lucas, ¿dónde está el parque infantil?' Lucas: And I say: 'Todo recto, luego a la izquierda.' — Straight ahead, then left. Luna: Todo recto, luego a la izquierda. Got it. So 'luego' is 'then'. Lucas: Yes. And if you want to ask about the exit: '¿Por dónde se va a la salida?' Luna: ¿Por dónde se va a la salida? I think I can handle that. Lucas: Great. Now let's practice all three questions in a row. Lucas: Awesome. You're ready to navigate any park in Spanish. Luna: I hope so. I'd still probably get lost, but at least I can ask now. Lucas: And that's the whole point. You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Spanish, we'd love your support. If today was worth a coffee, you can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep making these episodes. So thanks for considering. Lucas: Now, before we go, let's do one more round of the phrases. I'll say the English, you say the Spanish, and then everyone listening can say it along. Luna: Sounds good. Lucas: Where is the bathroom? Luna: ¿Dónde está el baño? Lucas: Where is the playground? Luna: ¿Dónde está el parque infantil? Lucas: Which way to the exit? Luna: ¿Por dónde se va a la salida? Lucas: Perfect. Practice these, and next time you're at a park, give them a try. That's all for today. See you next episode! Luna: Bye bye!
