- 0:00Speaker 1: Now we know that investigations are underway after a break
- 0:02Speaker 1: in at Jape Homemaker village. So two young girls allegedly
- 0:06Speaker 1: broke into Anaconda and stole a large number of hunting items,
- 0:11Speaker 1: including machetes, knives, arrows, and compound bows early on Saturday morning. Now,
- 0:17Speaker 1: joining me on the line to tell us a little
- 0:18Speaker 1: bit more is the Anaconda store manager Corey Reichstein. Good
- 0:23Speaker 1: morning to you, Cory.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Hey, hey, going not too bad mate?
- 0:27Speaker 1: What happened on the weekend?
- 0:30Speaker 2: So about two point thirty on Saturday morning, we received
- 0:34Speaker 2: a call out to a bloke in at Anaconda. Upon
- 0:40Speaker 2: getting to the location, we found that the fires that
- 0:44Speaker 2: had been forced open and we were missing a fair
- 0:47Speaker 2: bit of weapons, bows, machetes, knives, and to read electric
- 0:53Speaker 2: scooters as well.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Oh no goodness me, that sounds like a pretty significant
- 0:59Speaker 1: haul of what have been able to steal.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it does hurt a little.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Bit, mate. It must be a concern as well. I mean,
- 1:08Speaker 1: when they're getting away with things like scooters and also
- 1:10Speaker 1: though things like knives, those machetes and compound bows, it
- 1:15Speaker 1: must be a concern for you guys.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Look, I think it's just a general community concern at
- 1:22Speaker 2: the moment about the kind of stuff that is out
- 1:25Speaker 2: in the community and stuff that we've got to look
- 1:27Speaker 2: out for.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Mate, How did they get in? What did they do?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Was there much damage?
- 1:33Speaker 2: So they entered through one of our fire extinguishers that
- 1:37Speaker 2: they had forced open with the head of a axe. Basically,
- 1:44Speaker 2: Oh no, as far as damage is were concerned, it
- 1:48Speaker 2: is only the door. We were quite lucky. We haven't.
- 1:51Speaker 2: We didn't have anything broken or smashed. Yep. So that's
- 1:54Speaker 2: a good thing.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So then talk us through I know you've touched on it,
- 1:58Speaker 1: but talk us through what they stole.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Okay, So we've had missing to read electric scooters, a
- 2:07Speaker 2: few machetes and knives, a couple of backpacks, a few
- 2:12Speaker 2: head torches, five bows, and a few cases of arrows
- 2:18Speaker 2: as well.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Wow, uhuh, you obviously contacted the police. Where are things
- 2:23Speaker 1: at from your understanding with the investigations.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so the police are doing doing their their job
- 2:30Speaker 2: and what they can do, and they are keeping us
- 2:33Speaker 2: informed of as much as possible. I yeah, that's about
- 2:37Speaker 2: all I can really say about that at the moment.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I know that they are they are out there looking
- 2:41Speaker 2: for their stuff, and some of it has been recovered,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but there is some set outstanding.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, right, so some of it has been has been
- 2:47Speaker 1: recovered already, has it?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, there has been some items recovered.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Now, can you talk us through in terms of was
- 2:56Speaker 1: it captured on CCTV.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got multiple angles of what happened on CCTV,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but being nighttime and being quite dark, we're still making
- 3:07Speaker 2: out the details now.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yeah, And like, are you concerned about the fact that
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know that some of these items that obviously people
- 3:15Speaker 1: use for hunting in a very legal way, that they
- 3:18Speaker 1: could be used for something untoward.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Oh, look, one hundred percent with that sort of stuff
- 3:25Speaker 2: being out in the community. It's not ideal.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's not ideal. I mean, it's just a
- 3:32Speaker 1: really ordinary situation that you guys were broken into, especially
- 3:35Speaker 1: so Saturday morning. Did it make trading on Saturday quite difficult?
- 3:41Speaker 2: We could open a store until eleven thirty on Saturday morning,
- 3:44Speaker 2: which we had our team out in the front explaining
- 3:47Speaker 2: that to the customers and who were sure were all
- 3:49Speaker 2: like they were so lovely about it. Yeah, And I
- 3:52Speaker 2: think that's the thing the support of the community has
- 3:54Speaker 2: given us already, the amount of people that have said,
- 3:57Speaker 2: oh you know, we'll definitely come back to that later
- 3:59Speaker 2: on today when you're the shining light out of all this.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Really, Yeah, it always is. Hey, That's the thing that
- 4:06Speaker 1: I love about the Northern Territory community, is it when
- 4:08Speaker 1: things are, you know, very ordinary situations like the one
- 4:12Speaker 1: that you've been in, but the community does rally and
- 4:15Speaker 1: everybody does try to look after each other.
- 4:18Speaker 2: That's right. And the customers have just seen so great
- 4:20Speaker 2: about it and understanding about the wake time, and a
- 4:23Speaker 2: lot of people did come back on Saturday, even knowing
- 4:26Speaker 2: that we were going to be a little bit disjointed
- 4:28Speaker 2: and maybe a little frustrated, but no, it's fantastic.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, well that is good to hear. And I really
- 4:33Speaker 1: hope that you know that the police are able to
- 4:36Speaker 1: catch whoever's done this and that you're able to sort
- 4:38Speaker 1: of get everything bag. Although I guess once even if
- 4:41Speaker 1: you do get it back, you can't really sell it then,
- 4:43Speaker 1: can you.
- 4:45Speaker 2: No, A lot of stuff will be unsellable, So that's
- 4:48Speaker 2: just something that we've got to make up in sales
- 4:50Speaker 2: moving forward.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I guess. Yeah. Oh well, Corey, I really appreciate you
- 4:54Speaker 1: having a chat to us this morning. I know it's
- 4:56Speaker 1: a bloody ordinary situation for you guys to be in,
- 4:59Speaker 1: but I really appreciate you having your chat to us
- 5:01Speaker 1: and letting the community know what's going on.
- 5:05Speaker 2: No worries and thank you for your time.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Thank you
