- 1:14It's available in all major e book stores or at our store stored a Great

- 1:23Philip Morlow. The original air date October eighth, nineteen forty nine and the
- 1:29title the Open Window, Get This and Get It straight. Crime is a
- 1:34sucker's road, and those who travel had wind up in the gut of the
- 1:36prison of the Grave. This started with a terrified woman lost in amaze of
- 1:40memory she couldn't explain, and waiting for outside an open window was debt on
- 1:47the pen of Raymond Chandler, outstanding author of crime fiction, comes his most
- 1:51famous character in the Adventures of Philip marlow Now with our star Gerald Moore starred
- 2:07as Philip Marlowe, we bring you tonight's exciting story the open Window. California
- 2:27is a year round kind of place where each day blends into the next with
- 2:30a sort of sunny indifference. But the one just passed have been a little
- 2:35special. It was the cool Chris Bottom weather that reminded you of the East,
- 2:39where ottom meant kicking your way through knee deep drifts of brown and yellow
- 2:43leaves along a rutted country road that hinted an adventure at every turn. And
- 2:49that's the kind of a day it's been. But now, a little past
- 2:52eight, as I stood at the window of my third floor apartment, stared
- 2:55out over enough improved Los Angeles real estate to house maybe half a million people,
- 3:00tonight, I wanted no part of because the world was out there minding
- 3:02everybody else's business, while I was in here, minding my own. In
- 3:08here, everything was in order and cozy I could read if I want to
- 3:12write a letter, if I want to, oh, just relax with Oh
- 3:16no, your name for the mono? Yeah? Why because I had that
- 3:25name of mister Drews written here in this car. I think I was supposed
- 3:29to see you? Do you know me? Oh no, frankly, I
- 3:34don't. What were you supposed to see me about? Oh you, mister
- 3:38mom sort of I'm a private detective. Wait a minute, Wait a minute,
- 3:44it's not that bad a record. Why don't you comme in and we'll
- 3:47talk to about Come on, sit down, won't you? We look like
- 3:57and if you can use a drink you want? Thank you just need the
- 4:00rest of whom Now I've been walking for hours? Well, now tell me
- 4:05what is it? A man? I think someone's been following me. I
- 4:11was followed here. I'm sure I don't know why. Really, this is
- 4:15Los Angeles, California, isn't it. Yeah? I keep thinking that I
- 4:19feel as though it should be Vancouver, British Columbian. Oh. I don't
- 4:24know how I got here or why I want to see you, but I've
- 4:28walked until I'm nearly exhausted enough. I found that i'd written your name and
- 4:30address on his card. His's what I decided to come and try to find
- 4:35out. I'm not tell me. Do you know who you are? No?
- 4:41I don't know who I am. This man you're afraid of you know
- 4:46him? No? But I believe he knew me. You reminded me of
- 4:51Vancouver, and that frightened me. I seem to remember I saw me a
- 4:57year ago. Maybe it was See how crazy? Is that something I can't
- 5:06help? I can't remember it. Take it easy, now, you better
- 5:10lie down on the damn. That's it. Come on, I had a
- 5:13girl. Look, I think we ought to call a hospital and see it.
- 5:16Stay away. It's company in the hall. Maybe for us. I
- 5:18just take it easy. Hey, hey, you holding it? Hold on
- 5:21there? Oh great, I couldn't see. Don't let it bother you know,
- 5:30honey, it's probably just one of my clumsy neighbors. Never watches where
- 5:32he's going, you know. The other night right, whoever was out there
- 5:38was looking for me? No report? No, I look, honey,
- 5:43isn't it something you can tell me? Don't you remember? Any look in
- 5:49my person thinks in that I don't understand. Maybe there'll be some hill Gee
- 5:56address on a piece of brown paper. Eighty four one hundred North Virtual Tompkins.
- 6:02Does that mean anything to you? Snap shot out with one of the
- 6:09pictures missing? No, it was, but don't remember what the picture was.
- 6:20Please please try to find out who I am and why I'm being followed.
- 6:25Please try to find out why I'm afraid. All right, I used
- 6:29stay here, like get back, huh God or anything. I'll wait right
- 6:31here. I'm time. I figured what she needed most was rest, and
- 6:48she was getting that fast. So I dropped the items from a person in
- 6:51my pocket, snapped the lock on my apartment door, and left. My
- 6:56first stop was the phone downstairs in the lobby, where I found out that
- 6:59the Missing Person's bureau had no one on file answering her description. My next
- 7:02stop was eighty four hundred North Virgil. A half hour later, I found
- 7:06it, a crumbling stucco rooming house in a wead of knobby hills, puddled
- 7:12with other ramshackle houses that years ago had abandoned any hope of beauty in the
- 7:15face of the leaky, bobbing oil wells that had invaded the neighborhood like a
- 7:19heart of huge, greasy grasshoppers. I walked past one of the creaking monsters
- 7:24in the front yard, then down a grimy hall with Doormark manager Jacob Philpotts
- 7:30alow, which some neighborhood wagon pencils thinks it wasn't funny. Neither was Jake
- 7:35Philpotts. Yeah, speak up's fardy, I'm very busy killing a soldier.
- 7:41What's on your mind beside your hat? Okay, comic, I want to
- 7:45see Tompkins. Oh you want to see That's what I said. Why you're
- 7:47too light? Fardy? He's gone blue, threw the coop, took the
- 7:51five hundred. There was a shoved off two hours ago away for his home
- 7:57town. I guess Vancouver, Upper Canada, which is a long walk,
- 8:01sporty. So your beggar by wait a minute, Jake, way, did
- 8:05Tonquins get the five hundred? Some crossed the guy. David to him,
- 8:09blassy guy, and why why to get out of towel and stay out?
- 8:13So he does, but first he pays back all his back rent and buys
- 8:18me a bottle. Besides, I'm not sweeter that stuff over there. Hated
- 8:22you? Who is the classic guy? Why do you want Tonkins out of
- 8:26town? Why? How do I know? Why? Am I in Acyclopreia.
- 8:31I look nosing. My wish is getting cold, So why don't you
- 8:33alone? I want to know who the guy was, and I want to
- 8:35know. I'm sorry. You're goodness top pushing that you want to fight,
- 8:43get easy, you'll beat yourself at dead. Let's negotiate. Prop up against
- 8:48the wall and I'll talk to you. What about a price for another bottle?
- 8:50That stuff? I wouldn't just another bottle, that's what I said.
- 8:54Oh well, that's that's different. That's very nice of you, sting,
- 8:58Not really, kid, I'm trying to poison you know what was Tompkin's record,
- 9:01Oh Gardner copping the Hanging Man. Nothing much of it? Was the
- 9:07classic guy that bought him off. Let's see his name right on the tip
- 9:13of my tongue a minute ago, right handed, flashy dress so had a
- 9:16sort of a oh oh boy, Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's chat
- 9:22Parmel very good. Now one more. Where can I find him? Why?
- 9:24He said something about running the pearls. Yeah, to dive on Highland.
- 9:31Thanks Phil Potts, tank race polon your bother. Remember this band comes
- 9:35to seventh fifty attack Don kidding, old kid. A Jakie can squeeze that
- 9:39junk out of sal potatoes, potato and have a happy hangover outside. The
- 9:50smell of the oil well as I passed it was welcome by comparison to Jake,
- 9:54which made it tough to reconcile anything I'd seen at eighty four hundred Virginal
- 9:58the girl asleep from a dive band in my apartment. As I drove back
- 10:01the Hollywood, then down Highland Avenue, the night was still strangely quiet.
- 10:05Everything seemed to come in whispers, even the hunch I had at the vanishing
- 10:09mister Tompkins had sold out dirt cheap to the boss the Pros. Near Third
- 10:13Street, I spotted the place, palked aways beyond it, and walked back.
- 10:18It was one of those dumps that dealt in bad bar whiskey, second
- 10:20rate buck and a lot of darkness. I shook off a brace of last
- 10:24weekends on my way through, ded up the stairs to the offices, where
- 10:28a block of orange light on the floor had a two tone conversation told me
- 10:31to stop, look and listen. I have to show you. Huh hah
- 10:39all I no, my will. You're not easy to get over. I
- 10:41still love you and I've missed you so when you dropped me for your stuffy
- 10:45broker friend, I did a little checking up and I found out planning about
- 10:48Cooper, about Cooper Gerrard. I don't believe. Ah, but you shirt,
- 10:52Honey, you've seen Almo's not about him specifically, but about a woman.
- 10:56A woman was all wrong? Who spells trouble this deep? And I
- 11:00can prove it. I went to work on it tonight, and things are
- 11:03going to be different from now on. Buddy, get out of here,
- 11:07go on. All I want to know is said, beat it. I
- 11:11have a mind buster. It doesn't matter anymore. My presence is now known.
- 11:15Come on, in junior, you can hear better inside. I doubt
- 11:18it. I'll inhibit the performers. Thanks anyway, Baddy, I want to
- 11:22try the end of the hall and left. It's usually there, okay,
- 11:26all I want to know, hello, Hello? What do you want?
- 11:31Missed it? Make it snappy? Okay? Why'd you pay Tompkins leave town
- 11:33tonight? Tom Oh? Are you malo going to answer the question promily?
- 11:39I certainly I didn't pay in the leaf Town. I paid them for some
- 11:41work, carponent work. Why but the matter Alane whip handles not a bit
- 11:46baby. Look, why don't you run along now? I'll call you later.
- 11:50Oh here's your cigarette case, my cigarette case. Yeah, take it
- 11:52with you. We'll get in touch later. Okay, all good night,
- 11:58mama. Miss that's a cute kids too. All right, all right?
- 12:09Why are you interested in Tompkins? There's a certain lady is interested in la
- 12:13business. Okay, go on, it's key. What door does it fit?
- 12:20Pomy? How should I know? Have you got anything else? Is
- 12:22not enough to worry about, marlow So I suggest that you leave, and
- 12:26in case you have any doubts, this thing goes off awful easy, I
- 12:31see your point. Yeah, and I just assumed shoot is not. So
- 12:35start down those stairs and don't look back. I bust for a couple of
- 12:37the boys. They'll be at the bottom. They help you out the front
- 12:39door. Oh and Marlowe, take some advice. I don't like your type,
- 12:43so don't come back. Boys escorted me politely as far as the sidewalk,
- 12:54and get me a send off, the pile me into the gutter.
- 12:58It's my own fault, and commonly get the drop on me. But it
- 13:01was father ahead of midnight. Figured in fact, I was lucky. All
- 13:03I got was the bounce. I limped back to my car, got in
- 13:07and started home. But something about the trio of Normal La Casso Pomally and
- 13:11I broke. A named Girard was off setting, and Gerard's connections were too
- 13:16strong to pass up. So I decided to let the pale woman asleep in
- 13:18my apartment go right on sleeping while I stopped at a phone booth. Found
- 13:22only one Cooper Girard listed, and he had eighty one twelve North Orange Drive.
- 13:26It was a lonely house up in the Hollywood Hills. I tried the
- 13:31bell and got no answer. I knew he was there. I slipped the
- 13:35enigmatic key out of my pocket and listened to the music coming from inside.
- 13:39I stuck it in the lock. I turned just as the footsteps inside,
- 13:43so I pulled it out fast and let the party on the other side of
- 13:46the door. Do the armors? What is it, mister Geran, Yes,
- 13:50I'm Cooper Girard. What is it? I'd like to come in and
- 13:52talk to you. My name is Marlow. I'm a private detective. I've
- 13:56got a key that fits your front door, plus a little photo album full
- 13:58of a girl here. I that's Margaret's album. And her key. You
- 14:03found, OHI ishie, what's happened to her? She's safe. Come in
- 14:07the upper room right. So her name's Margaret, Margaret what vs? Margaret
- 14:11vs? But where is she? I've been frantic. I just called the
- 14:13police. She left the house this morning and didn't come back. It's late
- 14:18now, and in her condition, I'm afraid. What is Margaret's condition,
- 14:20mister Gerard. She was injured in an auto accident a year ago last July
- 14:24up near Vancouver, affected her mind. But is just a minute. There
- 14:28are some questions that I'd like answered. First, exactly what is Margaret Vsy
- 14:33to you? On July ninth, nineteen forty eight, when that horrible accident
- 14:37happened, nothing merely a hitchhiker, my wife and I were motoring back from
- 14:41a vacation in Canada. He picked Miss VZ up on the road and the
- 14:46accident. Grace, my wife, was killed, as Visy seriously injured.
- 14:50All I knew about her was that she was alone in the world, so
- 14:54there was no one to help him. Well, since I was driving the
- 14:56car, I assumed that responsibility east I could do. I stayed with her
- 15:01in Vancouver uncause she partially recovered and then brought her here. She's been with
- 15:05me ever since. Now would you please take me to her? But the
- 15:09story doesn't end there. What do you mean, Margaret Visa's in trouble and
- 15:13she's scared. What do you know about a man named Tompkins? Why?
- 15:18Nothing? I don't know any Tompkins. You do know a normal A Casso,
- 15:20don't you Norma? Of course, mister Casso and I are quite good
- 15:24friends. What about Alan Palmerley? Heard him? And he runs a nightclub?
- 15:31I believe right now? Tell me? Can you tell me why a
- 15:33third picture is missing in the album? Let me see here? This is
- 15:39very strange. Margaret cherishes every picture in this album. She thinks that one
- 15:45was stolen. Any idea with the picture? Why no? I can't imagine
- 15:48why it was stolen. All the pictures were simple, harmless snapshots. You
- 15:52can't remember the one that's missing? Marlow? What does all this mean?
- 15:56What's it all about? All as new as I can tell? This?
- 15:58Some kind of nasty shape I'm brewing. I don't know how why? But
- 16:02Alan Pomiley's behind it. Margaret Vis's caught in the middles. It involves you
- 16:04too. Come on, let's go get it. She's asleep in my place.
- 16:07You didn't leave her alone, Yes I did. You shouldn't have done
- 16:11that. Couldn't you tell from a mental state that she isn't responsible? For
- 16:15two days, she's been moody, she's been talking about suicidal ad Let's travel
- 16:30in just a moment, the second act of Philip Marlowe. But first,
- 16:34by the time you've listened to Johnny Dollar, Philip Marlowe, Gangbusters and Escape
- 16:38and the CBS All Star Saturday Night lineup, you may be pour some slow
- 16:42thing of your own. So try it with sing It Again and the phantom
- 16:47voice. Don't always let the other guy or gal solve the mystery. Try
- 16:51it yourself with sing It Again on most of these same CBS stations every Saturday
- 16:55night. Mean tune in this ball. This shows that you love best of
- 17:00all carefully, here's the address it Now with our star Gerald Moore, we
- 17:11returned to the second actor of Philip Marlowe and tonight's story, The Open Window.
- 17:26It took ten minutes to get in Gerard's house to my place. I
- 17:27knew because he reminded me of each one as it passed. And when we
- 17:30turned on to Franklin, where we could see my apartment house. The word
- 17:33Harry is stuck in his throat. An ambulance was pulling away from a tight
- 17:37lot of people standing on the concrete driveway beside the building, and three flaws
- 17:40above them, going like a single, ugly and blinking eye. Was the
- 17:42window of my own apartment wide open. Even before I could stop the car,
- 17:47Jaratt was out from running tar the crowd. Isn't that ambulance a woman?
- 17:49Mister? It was terrible there? Did you say it? Yes?
- 17:55Brother? They say she'd been laying here on the concrete for least a half
- 17:57hour before anybody got to her. Quiet around here. Wait, I didn't
- 18:00tell me what she did, just they don't give her a chance. Let's
- 18:04go upstairs. The police are up there now. They're trying. You say,
- 18:18the woman came here to your apartment, miss Marlowe and ask you for
- 18:21help. Is that right? That's right? Opposite? She was frightened and
- 18:23exhausted, and I left. She was asleep on the diver in. There
- 18:26was the door locked, Marlowe. It's kind of night lights, Gerrod,
- 18:30I snapped at myself, and you left her alone? Right? Mm hmm?
- 18:33Well take a look around. We'll just see if you can find anything
- 18:37to indicate that an outsider came in while you were gone. What makes you
- 18:40think there was an outsider here? Because I don't think she fell. Margaret
- 18:44was a mental turmoil, officer. She's been despondent. It's possible that she
- 18:47jumped. Yeah, how many people have you heard of that jumped out of
- 18:49a window backwards? Mister I think she was pushed pushed. Yeah, come
- 18:53here, both of you. I want to show you something. He went
- 18:56over to the window and pointed to five scratches were thinking I was, and
- 18:57taught the paint off the case. The one that had to be made by
- 19:00her thumb was the lowest. It was true she had gone out backwards.
- 19:03As the officer explained that that Gerard, I stared down at the dwindling knot
- 19:07of people three stories below, then up again at the five jagged scars ripped
- 19:11deep by a terrified woman's nails. Stared at them until I screamed at me
- 19:15as a sick mind must have screamed when she fell. Mister Marlowe, what
- 19:18about this cigarette stub with lipstick on it? Cigarette stubb? Hey, that's
- 19:22exactly what I'd like to know, Gerard, where does normal live Hillcrest Apartments
- 19:26on Sunset? But shoot, never mind what I think. You go to
- 19:29the hospital and find out about Margaret. I'm going to pay a call on
- 19:30normal A Casso right now. She's a type to be jealous. And I'm
- 19:33Mala, listen, you're making a mistake. That cigarette stubb must be Margaret's
- 19:37because Norma doesn't smoke. Noma doesn't smoke. What about the cigarette case?
- 19:41Hey, Busty, you better check the Lieutenant Matthews at homicide. I'll see
- 19:45you later. Hey, come back here. The Hill Crest apartments fit normal
- 19:56a castle to a tea. It was sleek off tones of burnished wood,
- 20:00streamlined and glass, and just enough chrome around to glitter. And once she
- 20:04answered her door and glossy green lounging pajamas edged in gold, and smiled and
- 20:08tossed the head of hair that was almost burgundy back to my face. And
- 20:12you what Alan Pomery meant, Loving Normala Casso would be hard to get over.
- 20:18Hello, Junior, don't tell me you're joining the league. Dude.
- 20:21It's fast, you know. Exkip it, baby, I'm coming into your
- 20:23mind. Are they're doing any good. Yeah, comfortable and makes you drink.
- 20:30You know me? You know Margaret Vizy. Don't you let that stays
- 20:33draw? Yeah. A little while ago she dropped three floors from an open
- 20:37window to a slab of concrete lay there over thirty minutes before she was found.
- 20:42All look at me like that. I mean it, I like Margaret,
- 20:49so do I. Well, she didn't fall, she was pushed.
- 20:53Got a cigarette? Sure, yes, catch nice? Just one cigarette?
- 21:00Toust like that. Man, it's a lovesy. You're supposed to pass the
- 21:04kiss and let the guests help themself. I don't keep right on twisting until
- 21:08I tell a gold cigarette case drops head door about me in there, that
- 21:15I had to help yourself. The pictures there under the bottom layer of cigarette.
- 21:18But why it's important it is beyond me. It's important to Pomily baby,
- 21:22had you smuggled out of his office so I couldn't find it? Margaret
- 21:26and gerout it's some little amusement park Vancouver. Probably told me how I used
- 21:32to take her out while she was recovering from that accident. So what And
- 21:36the autographs that make no sense to me? Yeah, this one's head,
- 21:41this must be his. Even the hottest day in Vancouver's history. That's it.
- 21:45It was all of it. Now when you apologize for these wealth on
- 21:48my arm? I kidding, old deal screw. The only way would make
- 21:52any sense is, oh my, where's your plumber over there on the phone?
- 21:56What have you got? Just an idea? So fast to ground?
- 22:00That's the US government or s SAIDs Weather Bureau. I'm a logical records,
- 22:07Yeah, mutual six or two one Weather Bureau records. Hello, listen,
- 22:21can you tell me what the hottest day on record in Vancouver has been?
- 22:22I mean the date? Do you have that information? Glaumbia. Yes,
- 22:26we've got it in and I'm pretty sure just a minute, I'm not sure.
- 22:30Yeah you got it? Hell yeah, I'm here, go ahead.
- 22:33The books. Is the hordest day up there was on July three, nineteen
- 22:37forty eight? They fine the two degrees. It's a nice place. Vanco
- 22:42was up there one year. Yeah, thanks friend. The Weather Bureau had
- 22:45just lifted a cloud my lady's mind. I hope you did it in time
- 22:48so long, didn't you? It works? Well? Are you going to
- 22:52pull a gun? They always do about here? Not me. I got
- 22:56conceal it. Welcome, also got della bills of bloodstream instead of copaseles.
- 23:02Just smart, baby, So take a tip stick close to home, don't
- 23:06even use the phone. A real nice shiny at him. I'd like to
- 23:10keep you that way. I'm gonna take you. But what does it mean,
- 23:14trouble, Just as soon as I can stir it up. Good night,
- 23:23But Mamas. In the time that had gone by, I figured my
- 23:26best bed was Gerard's place, but I was wrong. It was deserted,
- 23:29so I took the next best, which was Alan Pomally's The Pearls as well.
- 23:33After two o'clock when I got there and the club was closed, but
- 23:34the lights were on the offices upstairs, I parked, slipped around the back
- 23:37and up a flight of iron stairs to a metal door at the top.
- 23:41I pressed my weight against it and very gently turned the knob and tugged softly,
- 23:44and it swung open without a sound. Voices and the same square of
- 23:48orange light on the floor said that Pameli's office was open again. So I
- 23:51eased my gun into my hand and moved so I could see it. A
- 23:53pair of jackals? Can we get terms over the secret? Mister GERRYI the
- 23:57proposition. I'm offering he is perfectly fair. What is it? First,
- 24:02did you stop seeing Norma Lacasso? And I mean stop go on? Second
- 24:07that you delivered five thousand dollars here to me by the end of the week.
- 24:10You must have got a lot of insurance on your wife, Gerard,
- 24:11double indemnity too Am I asking too much? Black man leaves me no alternative?
- 24:15Is so right? How did you find out that she's not Margaret vs?
- 24:18Ha ha a beautiful break? When you started seeing miss La Cassa.
- 24:22I began checking out on you in two days ago. That checking up led
- 24:26me to the strange woman you called Margaret vs. And the character named Tompkins.
- 24:30Ever hear of him? No, an itinerant gardener was looking for work
- 24:33at your place. Also, Gerard and itinerant gardner who knew your Margaret vs.
- 24:37Well know where is someone named Grace? And Grace Girard lest we forget
- 24:42was your wife? When he called her, Grace had scared that she couldn't
- 24:45build it, but I could, so I see where is this Tompkins?
- 24:48Now? Partly? Oh, don't worry about him. I sent him away.
- 24:52You'll keep his mouth shut. He used to be a gardener on the
- 24:53wealthy side of Vancouver, where your wife lived. A small world and very
- 24:59small. Now wait a minute, your art. I'm going to kill you,
- 25:03Pomily. I knew something like this what happened. Someday My wife was
- 25:06getting her memory back. She was beginning to remember things to realize that she
- 25:10wasn't really my good Busy at all. My goot Busy had died in the
- 25:12accident the night a pushed her out of an open window. Doctors practically assure
- 25:18me that she'll be bid by morning. She won't be missed, neither will
- 25:21you. I'm sure I should be a felly gerod. If you move one
- 25:25inch you probably come around here, wait my desk, Come on, it's
- 25:27time. I'm glad to see them. Allow you're the lesser of two EQE.
- 25:30That's great. Well, it was a sweet story, fellas. But
- 25:33when you left that only one thing, the picture. You got it from
- 25:36the little album because you needed some tangible proof, didn't you, Pomily.
- 25:38And it since to deal because the accident happened on the ninth of July.
- 25:41But Gerard here had his picture taken with a supposed hitchhiker on Vancouver's hottest day,
- 25:45which was July third, six days before he claims to have met the
- 25:48girl picture. How do you manage the master stroke? Gerard? The switch
- 25:52and identities in the first place, Come on, talk were here. It
- 25:56was a mistake. Both miss Busy and my wife were in the car at
- 25:59the time of accident. The car burned, and somehow or other later at
- 26:03the hospital, Margaret Visy, who died, was identified as my wife.
- 26:07Grace said a memory was gone. You made the switch complete and called your
- 26:10wife Margaret Visi and left it like that, you know, Gerard, I
- 26:12hope you make a break for it, just once before we get the headquarters.
- 26:17Let's go you too. Family moved all right, but you'll have a
- 26:21hard time sticking me. Snoop, I haven't done anything. Oh yes,
- 26:23you have attempted extortion as of right now. You just insided a rat,
- 26:38Doctor Gray, you're receiving war. Please, doctor Gray, you didn't hear
- 26:42mister Morrow. Sure it's all right if I see a doctor after what you've
- 26:45just told me. I think it's a good idea. The condition has changed
- 26:49somewhat. She's responded better than I expected. But you can use some fighting
- 26:53spirits in sp maybe you can get it. I hope, So don't take
- 27:00long after, Oh, Grace and Philip Marlow or another. I mean,
- 27:07I think I do, Mistermorrow, Oh good, I just stopped by to
- 27:11tell you that I have all the answers to those troublesome questions in your mind.
- 27:15You don't have to be afraid of them anymore. You have nothing to
- 27:18worry about now except getting well. Oh, I can't remember where I've been.
- 27:26You've been away, Grace for a long time, and now you'll be
- 27:30going home soon, your friends. I believe that I'll run along now and
- 27:34I'm back tomorrow. When you're feeling bad, have along time. Margaret Das
- 27:44very new ones briefly. Well, I'll never forget I went to sleep one
- 27:49night on my diet. You will. Don't think about it now. Just
- 27:56think about home and Vancouver there soon, I promise. My God's window nothing.
- 28:07Yeah, that's what the weather man says. The night, my dear.
- 28:19When I finally got home, the air in my apartment was thick,
- 28:25full of stagnant fear and stale tobaco smoke. So I went over the window
- 28:29to open it up. There I stopped because I remembered standing at that same
- 28:36window earlier that evening, standing about thinking how happy I was the world was
- 28:41out there, how happy I was to be inside looking out. Then I
- 28:48saw again the five deep scratches on the casey inside looking out. There was
- 28:56a guy once, a long time ago who said something like, no man
- 29:03is an island, the entire of itself. Yeah, about three hundred years
- 29:07ago, he said. Then any man's death diminishes me, because I'm involved
- 29:14in mankind. Yeah. Sure. The Adventures of Philip Marlowe Bringing You Raymond,
- 29:40Chandler's most famous character, star Gerald Moore and are produced and directed by
- 29:44Norman McDonald. Script is by Robert Mitchell and Gene Levitt. Featured in the

- 29:56o'ran. Be sure and be with us next week. When Philip Marlowe says,
- 30:07this time it was a wrestler and the skids, a quick change,
- 30:10hardest in an alley, and a girl with an eye for ankles, I'll
- 30:14met destruction because one hundred thousand easy bucks cardom and a stranglehold which none of
- 30:19them wanted to break. The next time you're in the woods, make sure
- 30:36that cigarette butt, that match, or that campfire is completely out. Only
- 30:41you can prevent forest fires. This is Paul Masterson speaking. Now stay tuned
- 30:45for Gangbusters, which follows immediately over most of these same stations. This is
- 30:52CBS, the Columbia Broadcasting System. Welcome back. The last few scenes of
- 31:17this episode really epitomize what made Gerald Moore so great as Philip Marlow, because
- 31:25you go from the one scene where he confronts the killer with a red hot
- 31:32fury, and then we go to a very tender scene in the hospital where
- 31:37he's letting the ultimate victim of all this know that it's going to be okay
- 31:42and behaving very kindly and tenderly. And Gerald Moore is able to put into
- 31:49this role this great toughness along with this beautiful tenderness that makes this interpretation of
- 31:57Philip Marlow just so wonderful to listen to. All Right, well, that
- 32:00will do it for today. Remember next Tuesday, we'll be bringing you Man
- 32:06from Homicide, so be sure and check out that new series. Next week
- 32:09another episode of the Adventures of Philip Marlow, and tomorrow be with us for
