- 0:32White noise. I'm going to talk about this.
- 0:34Stimming is where you have a self stimulatory behaviour which
- 0:38is basically a repetitive behaviour that autistic people.
- 0:40Find enjoyment out of. This could be rocking back in
- 0:42the voids. This could be humming a tune,
- 0:45humming a noise. It could be moving in a certain
- 0:48way. It could be flicking their
- 0:48fingers, flapping their hands. It could be many things, a long
- 0:52time. You'll see people with autism
- 0:53kind of like move a pencil around over their eyes.
- 0:56This is again another factor of stimming.
- 0:58However, what we never talk about is the importance of white
- 1:02noise and streaming. Now white noise is if you don't
- 1:05know, it's kind of like that noise that the.
- 1:06TV makes when it's like fuzzy and grey.
- 1:09And that white noise when you hear it becomes repetitive, kind
- 1:12of like rain noise when it's raining outside and you get all
- 1:14relaxed and cosy, that's your mind stimming to the audio of
- 1:18the rain outside. So autistic individuals love to
- 1:21stem to white noise and rain noise and anything really that's
- 1:26that's it could be a buzzing of a tattoo gun that will help them
- 1:29self soothe because this is an, an emotional stem you're, you're
- 1:33emotionally connecting to that and it's repetitive, which gives
- 1:35you a feeling of security because.
- 1:39It's knowing what's happening next.
- 1:40You know that the rain noise is going to continue on because you
- 1:42know what the rain noise sounds like.
- 1:43You know what the white noise. Sounds like fascinating.
- 1:46Nobody talks about this. It's, it's one of the biggest
- 1:48things that nobody talks about. The other thing about stimming
- 1:51is why do autistic people stim when they're happy and or
- 1:56they're scared? Because they are emotional
- 1:59deregulators. So people with autism tend to
- 2:02not be able to regulate their emotions, right.
- 2:05And when emotion comes from something energy in motion, now
- 2:08you feel energy and you want to put that energy into motion.
- 2:11Now a lot of people will have control over their emotions,
- 2:14their energy in motion, where they'll say I'm sad, so
- 2:16therefore I'm about to cry. Autistic individuals won't feel
- 2:19like that. They'll have all this energy and
- 2:21they have nowhere to put it. They have to put it into motion
- 2:22somehow. So it comes out in a stem, you
- 2:24know, flapping their hands, rocking back and forward,
- 2:26jumping up and down, not sitting still.
- 2:28Fascinating area. We never, never think about the
- 2:30energy in motion. And we also have never thought
- 2:33about white noise. Now I've just blown your mind.
