- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the Steve and Jeff Show, the number one comedy podcast at Steve's mom's house, that is.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: Be sure and follow or subscribe to the Steve and Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: Write us a review while you're there too.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: And now, here's Steve and Jeff.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: Well, thank you, Johnny and Jeff.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: What a great night to be back in the studio, kind of getting the Christmas spirit, getting that Christmas feel, like it's winter, like it's cold, like it's snow, like it's you know, miserable.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: Kind of getting that good feeling.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: And I think this year Hanukkah and Christmas overlap, which normally they don't.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: That'll be interesting because, as you know, one side of my family is Irish Catholic and the other side is Jewish.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: And we always have kind of separated that out, you know, like when there's happy hour, you know, is it half off on drinks or is it free food?
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, exactly.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Irish.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: So it'll be interesting to see the yin and the yang, the tug of war between these two wonderful holidays.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: That is so exciting.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Now, when you turn it, do do you have to like turn over?
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Do you lean on one side, say like the left side is the Jewish side, and the maybe the right side is the Irish side?
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: What do you physically have to do something?
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Well, I sleep on my back as the Irish side, and on the I try to sleep on the front, but it it's hard with my nose.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, there you go.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So I haven't quite worked that out.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Um, but will we make it work?
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, I'm doing great.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: How are you doing?
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: I'm doing great.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: I'm so excited with the holidays coming up, and we've got a whole brand new year coming.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: 2025.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: I remember when that sounded so far away, and you know, actually it still does, but it's only a couple weeks away, Jeff, and and it's it's coming before we're ready.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: You remember that joke writer that we had on?
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: Well, he he wrote a lot of jokes, most of which we haven't used yet.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Some of which we used, and and you know, it could have been funnier, but I digress.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: He wrote a ton of jokes about Vladimir Putin.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: You remember that, right?
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: We had like a whole list.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: I do remember that.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: You know, Jeff, speaking of this new year, once this new year starts, or well, a few couple weeks into the new year, we probably can't tell any jokes about Putin anymore.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: It's just not gonna be it's not gonna be safe, you know.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: So we probably since we got this whole backlog, we got pages and pages of these jokes.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: I think we should load up the shows between now and then with jokes about Putin.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Why don't you kick it off?
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Why don't you get us started?
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So are are we pretty sure that we're safe before January?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Because I, you know, I got this feeling like maybe I could end up in jail as a result of this.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Uh well, I think Steve, do you have alternative motives here to like do the show by yourself?
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, I did reserve the name The Sieve Show, but you know Jeff, I have a good feeling that you're mostly safe, probably.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, good enough.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Good enough.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll take that as a guarantee.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, so here's one of the jokes from the joke writer.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: So it starts off with Vladimir Putin and his driver, they die in a car accident.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, this one.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, no way you can get this one.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, please.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my my odds have just kind of slipped a little bit.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna call my uncle Sal.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: He runs the sports book.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Let me see what let me see what he thinks your odds are.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, but I digress.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, yeah, this is probably not gonna go well for me, but we'll continue anyway.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: So Putin and the driver die in a car accident, and surprisingly, they both go to hell.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Now there's a shock.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Wow, yeah, I don't know why I said that either.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: You know, again, I don't know why we're going down this path, but I'm already started, so I think Oka Sell has started to take bets.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Actually, I think I think it's already started, you know.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: But but go ahead, go ahead.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're in it now, you may as well finish, right?
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, so they end up in hell and they're they're in front of the devil, and the devil gives them a choice.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: He says, You can actually choose to go to a Russian hell or to an American hell, yeah, and that's pretty generous of them, you know.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they look around and there really isn't much of a difference, you know, when they first look between the two different hells.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: And so the devil says, just let them know, we can accommodate you any way you want.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: However, either hell that you go into every morning, you must eat an entire bucket of cow shit before you do anything else.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: In in either.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: So that's not just like a Russian.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's yeah, it's I think it's a hell thing, you know.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: It's just when you go to hell, it's the inauguration, you know, it's that's what they do.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: So Putin kind of in love with America, as we all know, and well, he's a neutral love affair.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: It's it's that flirtation, that that new love, that new acquisition.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, he'll get tired of it soon, but you know, for next time.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: He's got all these connections, yeah.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: So, you know, so he he decides he's gonna choose the American hell, sure.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And his driver choose, you know, because he's a loyal Russian, he chooses the Russian hell.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Well, he didn't want to choose the American hell in front of Putin, even dead.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Even dead, he was afraid of that.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: So absolutely.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, two weeks go by and they get together, they're kind of comparing notes.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: And so the driver says, So tell me, Mr.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: President, how is American Hell?
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: And Putin says, I'm not gonna lie, it's really nice.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: The stores are full and the entertainment is top-notch.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: However, I still am having a hard time getting used to eating an entire bucket of cow shit every morning.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: That would be a tough way to start the day, you know.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: You see this beautiful sunrise, and it would, you know, you wouldn't enjoy it, you know.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: So Putin says to the driver, so so how's Russia now?
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: And the driver says, Well, it's like Russia, you know, there's a six-month wait to get a bucket, and there's a shortage of shit.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Well, there you go.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: You know, I think that's very even-handed because most people that I've heard talk about Russia, there is no shortage of shit.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's plenty of there's a lot of.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: And I want to clarify, this is not me talking, this is the joke.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: This is a joke, yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: This is our joke writer.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: So, really, really, Jeff, just just for clarity's sake, should anyone listen to this after January?
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: If anybody should go to jail, it should be that joke writer.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: And it's only one joke.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's right.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Let's not go crazy.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, I know we have a bunch more, but you know, let's not talk about that right now.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: And if we do run into any trouble, if say we can't keep our podcast platforms here, maybe we can we can do like a Wolfman Jack.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: We could go down to do the show out of Mexico or at least broadcast out of Mexico.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, that might be hard though.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: Some things may happen, we may not really be able to go back and forth, you know what I mean?
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: I know exactly what you mean.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, though, you know, it's been an eventful week.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I've been working on the Ten Commandments.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Trying to get used to them, and I really like them.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: What I've really learned, and it's happened pretty quickly.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: I guess this is the way it works for most people, is I've really gotten used to giving up all of my individual rights.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: I thought it was going to be hard to do, but I'm just really getting used to it, and it kind of feels good.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: It's like a a weight lifted off my well, it's lifted off my legs and put on my shoulders, kind of.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Well, yes, exactly.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: It's it's now you don't have to make those decisions.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Somebody'll tell you what to do.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: It's liberating.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Oppression is liberating.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: What can I tell you, you know?
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: And speaking of totalitarianism, is that the right word?
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Did I put too many syllables?
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, no, that might close.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: That's close.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: I think yeah, we'll we'll fix it in post.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, don't worry about it.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Did you get that email from the administration?
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Um, it looks like there's some more changes coming.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: I sure did.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: I was reading this and I thought, well, well, well, now that they're of course in charge of all communication, all entertainment.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: And let me just digress for a minute here, Jeff, because you know, Hollywood has not had a new idea in so long.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: You look at all the all the remakes, you look at all the sequels, we've got Dune, we've got the endless Star Wars sequels.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: We've got a Game of Thrones second spin-off of Game of Thrones now.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Harry Potter.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: And Harry Potter.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: And and Big Bang on TV, Big Bang.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: We actually have now a spin-off of a spin-off on Big Bang is coming this year.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: So it was refreshing to see that maybe they got some new ideas.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Now, of course, these new ideas, it looked like they were kind of remaking old movies.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: So it's really not new ideas, but it's kind of a new spin on it, maybe a little more entertaining because people are going to need that entertainment because now that they don't have to make all those decisions and they just do what they're told, they'll have plenty of time, they'll be able to watch more movies.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Maybe we should do a preview of what's coming in January.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly, because this time of year is really when the big movies come out.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: You know, it's Oscar season, they call it end of the year, Christmas season, and all these big movies are coming out.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: And I think it's really exciting that with this new set of rules on entertainment, they're remaking some of those old classic Christmas movies that we've we've loved for years, we've left for generations.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: We could do a Siskel and Ebert, we could do reviews on them, but I think that would be wrong because Jeff, that would sound like we are judging instead of endorsing.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: There is no judging in this country anymore.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: So and when they come with the red pens, when doggy comes over, when doggy tries to take a bite out of us, we are endorsing.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: We are not judging.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about those movies.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: I know there are a few that we really, really got to mention.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Well, let's start with a couple of holiday movies just that have been remade and really frankly made better by some of these rules, by some of these people here.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: And I haven't seen the movies yet, but I know they're better.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, you just know it.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: It's better because they say it's better.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Well, I can say I I've not seen any of these movies, but I guarantee you they're better because I was told they're better.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: And a lot of people say they're better.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: People are saying that they're better, so they must be.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Nobody's seen movies as good as this before.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: These are the best movies ever anyone's ever had, ever.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Ever.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: The first really is an all-time Christmas classic.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: It's a wonderful life.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: What a great movie! What a great movie that was, right?
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: You know the story.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: It's the story of an angel that's sent from heaven to help George Bailey, who's frustrated and suicidal, and he's getting desperate.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: He's owns a building alone that's running into problems, and he owes money to the richest man in town, Mr.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Potter.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: So this angel helps George see what life would have been like.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Because you know, George thinks, hey, maybe it would have been better if I was never born.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: He says, No, no, no.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Here's what white life would have been like if you had never been born.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: And he realizes, hey, it was a wonderful gift to have been born.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: What a great movie! What a wonderful Christmas story that is.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love that movie.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: And Jimmy Stewart was great in it.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: And so emotional at the end when all the townspeople come to help him and chip in to pay him back for all the wonderful things he did for them and to keep George from being ruined.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: It is so emotional.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking about it, I'm almost crying.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: And I, you know, we don't have a video podcast, and you know, the way things are going and the new some of the new rules we probably won't, but I digress.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: But you could see if I was on a video podcast, you could see I'm almost crying, Jeff.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: This is so good.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Has a tremendous ending to that movie.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: It's not a realistic sort of ending, but it's a wonderful, it's an uplifting ending.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: It's great.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: It's not realistic, but no, and and the way they're everybody's kind of giving them money and collectively pooling their funds is you know, a little communistic, a little socialistic there.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Not that anyone really knows the difference anymore between those two, but there's a new version.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: Now, how is this new version different?
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Well, first of all, as a much more talented cast.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, Jimmy Stewart, Lionel Barrymore, Donna Reed.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, they're fine.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: But oh, oh, this movie, this is a wonderful life.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: You'll never guess who is playing George Bailey, the Jimmy Stewart role.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Uh my dad?
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Uh you know you're close.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Scott Bio.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: Fine actor.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Chachi wasn't cutting anymore, and uh Joni doesn't love Chachi anymore, I don't think.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: So uh you know, I think I think Joni loves anybody anymore, does she?
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Probably not, probably don't think so.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: But I think Scott Bio is maybe he's finally up for that Oscar that really he was robbed of for that happy days the movie.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Really best supporting was that jumping the shark movie?
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: That was well, uh yeah, sure.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Why not?
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: So in this in this new and improved, it's a wonderful life, and really improved.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's new, but it is really improved.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Potter convinces the townspeople that the real villain is George, because hey, George is a deadbeat loser.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: If he wasn't the bad guy, he would have money, right?
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Money equals blessing.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: And if he was supposed to be a good guy, he'd have money.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: And plus, maybe he's not really even from Bedford Falls.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that Jimmy Stewart accent, it sounded like he wasn't from wherever that was.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: He was Bedford Falls was sort of, you know, it kind of got this uh central upstate New York vibe to it, you know, kind of like that.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: I I don't think he's from there, no.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: I I think he's from somewhere else.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: So Potter convinces the town that he needs to be kicked out, repatriated back to where he was from, probably Pennsylvania, you know, is kind of what I'm guessing.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: Kind of that that ring had that ring to it, you know.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: So probably you know, from New York to Pennsylvania, and his property goes to Potter.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: Isn't that a great ending?
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: That is so touching.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's heartwarming, and it teaches us many lessons.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Some of them we we already learned through the new Ten Commandments, but sure, um, you know, but it sounds great.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: But before you know, we go into the next movie, I just got another press release, and this one announces that it's a wonderful life has already won 12 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Lesson to Learn if you want to have a wonderful life.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: I didn't even know that was a category.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And yeah, you know, well it is now, yeah, yeah.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: And I don't even understand.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Is the movie even out yet?
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: I I don't uh you know it doesn't need to be out yet to win those awards.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, because when you know, you know, and when you're told when you're to know, and that's how you know because you were told.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: That's how you know, because you were told, right, yeah, because you were told, yeah, right.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Well, congratulations to the cast.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: I hear they're wonderful in it, and I can't wait to see it.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Well, you have to see it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, yes, I'll have to see it for sure.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Want to, you have to.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: So, should I introduce the next movie that we should be going over the holiday movie?
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: So, I'm not sure if this is the working title or this is the real title.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: It's called You're Screwed.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's the one with Bill Murray.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: I think that one might be that was screwed.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Scrooged?
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, okay.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: Um, we were all supposed to think screwed, right?
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Yes, but it wasn't literally called screwed, it was called scrooged, right?
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: And so this one's based on the original Christmas classic, a Christmas carol, which we all remember with Alistair Crook and George Z.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Scott and a bunch of others.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and for those of you who aren't aware of what the story is, you're probably not an American.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: And if I were you, I would probably leave the country while you still can.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, but um unless of course you're British.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: But if you're British, if you're British and you don't know this story, shame on you.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll be just a hero.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Okay, but I digress.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but for everyone else, uh just to recap it, it's the story about Ebenezer Scrooge, who was a hard-hearted old miser who hates Christmas, exploits his clerk, Bob Cratchit, and he mocks those who seek to help the poor.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: And on Christmas Eve, he's visited by three spirits, three ghosts that show him what his life was like in the past and now and in the future.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: And as a result, he repents and he becomes a good person, and he's friends for all, especially the poor.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: And he's he's just become a wonderful person.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: One of the nice things, one of the really beautiful things about the remake is that it's taking that story that's again a little unrealistic.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: It's kind of making it more real, more relatable to an audience today, considering some of these new rules.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: What does screws do wrong by asking an employee to do a full day's work for a full day's pay?
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh Christmas, non-Christmas, whatever.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Isn't that what's wrong with our country?
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: That people aren't working and aren't putting in extra hours for no pay, and the right people working.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Well, right, exactly.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: And uh history doesn't even take place in America, so there's that problem too.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, yes, okay, England.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: We don't necessarily hate England, but we kind of do.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: We're thinking tariffs, yeah, yeah.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: So but anyways, anyway, tell us about this new version.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: How's it better?
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Well, according to Fox, you know, who's in charge of all of their entertainment.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, in the new movie, again, upgrading the cast with James Woods as Scrooge.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, he's very good.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, haven't seen him for a while in anything, but he's I hear he's great.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: And in this movie, Scrooge pretends to be for the working class and the poor, makes a bunch of promises, you know, that he's not gonna keep, and then he gains their trust by blaming other poor people for their problems.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: And as a result, he makes more money and he becomes the mayor of the town.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and uh, yeah, it's a it's a wonderful story.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: And along the way, he does some things like you know, he makes Christmas the official holiday of Bedford Falls, you know, just to make it appear like he cares about religion, and you know, he holds up the Bible upside down and he does that kind of stuff, and yeah, and like I said, I'm just choked up even thinking about that story.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: So basically, if I get this right, Scrooge in this new version, Scrooge, there are 10 cookies on the table.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Scrooge takes eight of them and gives one to two other people, and then tells one of the guys, hey, that guy wants your cookie.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's brilliant! That is brilliant.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: Oh man, and that's so realistic, that's so really true to life, true to what's going on, and relatable to people seems to be what people are going for.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: And hey, we need somebody to blame for our problems.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: And we obviously, well, I think we found some people, right?
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Looks like they have been very busy since the election, this entertainment division, and I guess there's a couple more movies.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: What do you have there, Steve?
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: Jeff, there's so many good movies coming out.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: It's really gonna be we're not gonna have to watch Dune 7 or Rocky 35.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: We're gonna see some really good movies.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Another one, you know, it's almost like they've been planning this for a long time and really getting this ready because this the stuff's ready like immediately.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: So next couple of movies, not holiday movies, but they're great ones nonetheless.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Uh first one is one of my one of my favorite movies.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: I remember first day I saw this in a theater in 1985, Back to the Future.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: I love all of them.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, three of them.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Speaking of not original ideas, yeah, there were a few back to the future too, weren't there?
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: But it got a little tiring in the third by the third.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, still left them, you know.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it was yeah, it was still good.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: So anyone, if you're not familiar with the Back to the Future, deals with the teenager, Marty, who accidentally travels from 1985 when the movie was made, back to 1955.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: In 1955, that's 30 years, and he's younger, he's a teenager, he's not 30 years old, but his parents are about his age, actually, when he goes back 30 years.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: And so he's got this friend, this kind of eccentric scientist, Emmett Brown, and he tries to get back to 1985.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: Now, of course, problems come up, gets entangled with his because his parents are there, and his dad's kind of a I don't know, I hate to say wimp, but kind of a wimp.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: And his mom is really attractive and is very attracted to Marty.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: And so Marty starts kind of almost getting involved with his mom, and there's something, oh, I don't know anything about that, but there's a that's something that I understand a lot of people do, not me.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: Oh no, no, no, no, but I understand a lot of people do, you know, have kind of a thing with their mom.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: And think about it, that's kind of an existential crisis for little Marty, because if his parents don't get together, there's no Marty, you know, you know what I mean.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: A little side note here.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I heard a rumor that Woody Allen actually played a role in writing the script, mostly the part about when he goes back and he starts he's on a date with his mom, and it's it's like confusing because you know you've got the child and the parent, and right.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: So I I hear Woody kind of added that part, which which was pretty much the best part of the movie.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Uh well, I I I think he did really.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: I can see that because he probably wanted his mom, but he wanted his mom like at 12.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: So he probably went back a little further than Marty, but hey, that's a different movie.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: That movie will probably get made now.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Well, maybe it will, maybe it won't.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll we'll find out.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: But uh of course, in the original, Michael J.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Fox played Marty, and and really it it you know made him a star.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, he was already on a TV show, but yeah, this really put him in the big time.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: And this brings up an important point.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, he became a star, but if you ask me, the real star of the show was Biff.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: And I don't even know the characters, I don't even know who the actor really was, but he was this ultra dumb kind of high school boy.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Bully who you know bullied Marty and his father.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: I thought he was the he was the main guy, but uh so what's this new version like?
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: It's funny you should talk about Biff because in the new movie it's titled Back to the Past.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: I think the working title was something like make it great, something like that.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: But it's called Back to the Past.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Uh Marty's not the star of this one.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Michael J.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Fox would not be put in the big time for if he was in this, but he's not in this movie, of course.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: But Marty's not the star.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: It's all about Biff.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And Biff Biff is played just masterfully by really one of the greats, one of the great actors of our time, Gary Busey.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: But he's so good.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Where's his Oscar?
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Uh well, and in this new version, Biff kills Marty and his father.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Takes Marty's mom as his wife, and ends up mayor of Hill Valley.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Now you remember in in the original in 1985, not in 55, but in 85, the mayor of Hill Valley of their town was uh was a black guy, Goldie Wilson.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: I remember.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: And so in this remake, there's an election that uh Biff swears was 100% legit and really believes in, and Goldie lost.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: And it's funny because Goldie only got eight percent of the black vote, which we were wondering how's that work?
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: But nonetheless, Biff won the election.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Well, yes, that you know makes perfect sense now.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: You know, I wonder with Gary Busey, back to him for a second.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Haven't seen him a lot lately, but you know, this might be his chance to be recognized as one of the great actors of our time.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, I hope he's so gifted.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: And speaking of All-Star cast, I hear Roseanne Barr was in it as Biff's mom, which I think is perfectly cast.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: A walk-on in the original, but ri a really important part of this remake, you know, for obvious reasons, because hey, Roseanne, right?
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we have one more movie to cover here.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And should I launch this for us?
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, go ahead.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this movie is called Vlad, and it's based on a movie from 1993 called Dave, one of my favorite movies, uh starring Kevin Klein.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: And I remember the day in 1993 I sat in the theater and watched that one too.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: It was a good movie.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Sigourney Weaver.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: I well, I always liked Sigourney Weaver.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: I did too.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: I didn't know.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: But I digress, I I really digress of him.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: But oh yeah, ooh.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: But, anyways, it was a movie about the president who has a massive stroke and ends up in a coma, and the people in the administration did not want the American people to know that, and they found a look-alite actor, Dave, who pretended to be the president so they could continue to run the government the way they wanted to run it.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: So that was kind of the premise.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Um, right in this new movie, when the president goes into a coma, he's actually replaced by none other than Putin, who seamlessly starts to run the country as if he's been running it all along.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Now, this is not criticism.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: I am fully endorsing this movie.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: However, I do have a question.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: I do have a question though.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Now, what in the original, this guy Dave, looked exactly like the president.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Just it was a dead ring, he was a dead ring for the president, just that he was a better guy than the president, but he looked exactly like him.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: But Putin really doesn't look at all like you know who.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: How's that gonna work?
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: It's actually pretty simple.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Basically, what happens is you tell the American people, they tell the American people that he's the president, even though their eyes tell them that he's not, and and then you have Fox News say that he's the president, and then you have the Republican Party say that he's the president, and you keep repeating it, and before long, everybody just assumes he's the president.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really not that difficult.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Hey, that would work.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, it did, right?
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: It has worked, it has worked well.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Now, a lot of people are gonna say, well, hey, Steve, you were criticizing Hollywood for not having original ideas, and these are all remakes.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Yes, they are all remakes, but they are remakes in a whole different direction, a whole different slant, a whole different theme to them.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: Completely.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: We're about to get kicked out of eccentric lady and studios here, but I think kind of like we did on one of the earlier shows where we we picked a listener at random.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Well, I I tell you what, I picked another listener at random tonight.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: It's uh Carmen Auteronic.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: I think that's how it's pronounced.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: I won't spell it because I you know I I could barely read it, but it's Carmen, and we'll we'll find you Carmen from uh New Bedford, Massachusetts.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, Carmen, we're gonna send you some nice prizes related to these movies.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: So, Johnny, what do we have for Carmen?
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Right, Steve?
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: Carmen will get nothing.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Uh see Donkey came and took a big bite.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, but we did manage to salvage a laser disc copy of Miracle on 34th Street, colorized version, which is all hers.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: This has been a God mine production in association with Got Yours Too Media.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Be sure and follow or subscribe to the Steven Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Write us a review while you're there too.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: This is Jadie Speaker.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: I just love Christmas movies.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: My favorite's the big short.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: That's the one about all the elves helping Santa.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Wait, it's not?
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Good night.
