- Brandon Dirmann: Well, welcome once again to another episode of the Daily Word Podcast. I hope that wherever you are listening to this from today, that you're having an amazing day. Maybe it's first thing in the morning. I hope that you have an amazing day today. ⁓ in case we haven't met, my name is Brandon, and I'm one of the pastors here at our church. And the Daily Word Podcast, our goal is twofold. It is to every single day provide a nugget, if you will, of encouragement. Inspiration, maybe even the Lord uses it to challenge you in some area as it relates to you and I ⁓ following Jesus and becoming and doing all that He's called us to do. ⁓ but also its ⁓ purpose is to remind you and encourage you that every single day we have the opportunity that is an incredible one that would be spending time with God for ourselves in the secret place. What an incredible opportunity that we get to every single day spend time with. God through the Holy Spirit, opening the scripture and allowing God to speak to us in real time. One of my favorite Bible passages of all time is 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 through 17. And here's what it says: it says that all scriptures given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. So every word that we read, all of God's word, it is living, it's active, Hebrews chapter 4, verse 12 would say. And verse 17 says that this scripture has been given to us so that we may be complete, so that God may through the scripture thoroughly equip us and complete us for every good work. What an opportunity we have every day. Sit at the feet of Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and our ears and our hearts to receive from God truth that we need, so that God can shape our life, but God can equip our life to be and do all that He's called us to do. And it's with that thought that I want to share with you from ⁓ today's reading. Every day we're grabbing the New Testament portion of the reading plan, the life journal reading plan that we use as a church. And today ⁓ we're reading Philippians chapter two. And what I just said about the opportunity we have to spend time with God, I want to kind of bridge that thought and share with you this verse. Philippians chapter two, verse 12. It says this Therefore, beloved. As you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence. Listen to this. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for his good pleasure. Let me read that one more time, and then I'm gonna share with you the insight that I took from that today. Philippians chapter two, therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only. But now, much more in my absence. Here's the thought. Work out. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for his good pleasure. Here's the reality. The Bible says that every single one of us we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, and we will give an account for our life before God. ⁓ we're gonna all stand before God and we're gonna give an account for our life. Well, we won't give an account for our neighbors' life, or our friends' life, or our family's life, or our parents' life, or our son, or we're gonna give an account for our life before God. What a weighty thing to think about. We won't be judged for our sin. Jesus has paid the price for all of our sin. And the account that we will give for those of us who have put our faith and trust in Jesus. Will not be a matter of salvation, but a matter of the rewards that we receive in eternity with him. And the Bible says we'll all stand before the judgment seat of Christ and we will give an account for ourselves. We're gonna stand before God and give an account. And Paul writes here, he says, So, so work out your own salvation. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. In other words, come before God. Come before God on a daily basis. Come before God as a part of how you live and who you are, saying, God, I want to know you. I want to know your wills. I want to know your way. I want to understand your heart. I want to come into alignment with and be molded and shaped. God, I want to follow you in the way that pleases you. And I want to do so to the best of my ability. And so I have to work out. I have to work. I have to investigate. I have to put effort, put energy. Paul would say this in the book of First Timothy, I believe. He says, bodily exercise profits you a little bit, but godliness profits all things. Therefore, you should exercise, work out, exercise yourself towards godliness. The Bible teaches us that we have to work out our salvation. We we gotta work out our convictions. We gotta work out what we believe. We gotta work out where our we have to work out our own salvation. There's there there there are black and white, but then there's gray areas. There's areas where we have freedom and liberty in Christ where we're not under the law. And the Bible says we shouldn't take that liberty as a springboard to live however we want, but that liberty as a springboard to say, God, how do you want me to live? And here's what Paul says: He says, Work out your own salvation, but listen. With fear and with trembling. You come before God and you work out your salvation, your convictions, your values, who you believe God to be, how you believe God has called you to live. He says, but do so with fear and trembling, realizing and remembering that God is God, that eternity is real. That Jesus, He is the one, the only way unto salvation. And we will stand before God in a real way and give an account. So work out your own salvation with fear and trembling in reverence and awe of who God is. Remembering this that ultimately it's God who's working in you both to will and to do his good pleasure. Here's the application and what I am encouraging you with and wrestling with today on my own. Are we coming before God every single day in the secret place? Are are we coming before God on a regular basis? Are we coming before God as a posture of heart and living and saying, ⁓ God, I know that I haven't arrived. ⁓ God, I know that everything that I think isn't right. ⁓ God, I know that my point of view isn't always accurate. ⁓ God, I know that I'm far from having arrived. At fully knowing and comprehending the will and the ways of God. ⁓ God, I'm coming before you today, asking you as a posture of my life continually, saying, God, teach me, mold me, shape me, change me, can convict my heart of sin. Get out of me things that shouldn't be in there and put in me things that should be there. ⁓ God, I want my life to be a continual working out of my salvation because of your reality, inviting you to do a deep work if. w within me. Is that how we're living? Or are we just on autopilot? I found in my own life, but for so many people that we can just in our walk with God, we can get on autopilot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm I'm good. God's good. Life is good. I go to church. I listen to the Daily Word podcast. And we're just on autopilot. And little by little we're being shaped by culture. Little by little we're being ⁓ how how do how do I say it? ⁓ may maybe being shaped is the right way to say it. We're being shaped by culture. And little by little because we're on autopilot drift, that's what I'm looking for. We're we're drifting in the wrong direction. We're just on autopilot, drifting in the wrong direction, being shaped by culture. And and and if we're not careful, we we start in our salvation, but we don't continue to work it out. And I guess what I'm trying to say and what I feel like God's speaking to me today is that We need to every single day and as a posture of our life, we need to continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Continue to come before God, surrender to his spirit, saying, God, will you do in me and through me what you need to to to to do so that I can live the way you've called me to live. I hope that's encouraging to you today. I hope that it speaks to you. Maybe it maybe it maybe it convicts your heart. And I hope that God would use it today to be maybe a catalyst. For you leaning into God like never before, saying, All right, God, I really want to work out my salvation. I want to know what I believe and know what my convictions are and know what my values are. Not according to my appetite, but according to with fear and trembling, saying, God, I want to honor and please you. So, Lord, today we bring this before you and we ask you that you really would continue to work in our lives. Every one of us, we need you to w work in our lives in a real And in a supernatural way. And so we invite you, Holy Spirit, to do what only you can do as we say, God, we want to work out our salvation with fear and trembling before you, evermore becoming who you've called us to be.
