- 0:14[SPEAKER_03]: It is that time of week.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_03]: Sooner's on SI podcast.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_03]: One day later today, I forgot last week's recording that BB camp was going down this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, then we'll spill into Friday.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_03]: So we took the extra day so that our man Carson wasn't having to radio in from Everest training center and all that stuff.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: But we'll recap everything that wasn't as a busy week on the recruiting trail.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: for the suitors whole squad here for whole suitors on s i round Chapman right here we've got the man the mid-de legend john Hoover running point from the nine one eight who how are we enjoying summer now that we are fully into the dog days man i'm just hoping i can set another Guinness book Guinness World record this week my last week my brother and i got the ride in the classic car show down Route 66
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Warbrook and 5,000 cars through Tulsa.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Huge.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: Huge.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: That also, I don't know how locked it.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_03]: FC Tulsa just dropped a really, really cool root 66 inspired.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: So technically the third kit, whatever, shout-up to the USL.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: We love, we appreciate it.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_03]: We gotta be a course of the course.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_03]: And I need an update.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: How is the new AC slash ventilation system and Everest indoor?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: Because I hear that it kept you guys living and not just like a big cloud of humid growth sweat
- 1:30[SPEAKER_03]: camp.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was chilly actually.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: I put on my pull up pull over at one point.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: So it was breezy.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: I felt a little bit chilly.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: So definitely heat was not the issue.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: So doing well got some sun on the outdoor portion so can't complain.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_03]: Huge.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: We'll take that any time that you can just breathe an Everest.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's a win.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_03]: Much less to actually be able to put on a pull over.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: That is somewhat incredible.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: We have the man, the myth, the legend, Ryan, ABER also with us.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_03]: Later on, we'll be recapping everything.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you baseball and super, so all that stuff.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_03]: And everyone have to sit that one out because I don't, I know you know what bad baseball looks like.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't know if you know what good baseball looks like anymore.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, my team said two 10 game winning streaks this year.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: They've just also had a 10 game losing streak.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I know a little bit about both.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: But I know we'll get into it more later.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: Goodness.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't watch a ton of college baseball, but Taki's walkoff was one of the the more exciting moments that we've seen in college baseball in a while.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_03]: Taki was incredible.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_03]: Daytona chance, I'd like, I know that in the softball world and because you're at the college world series, Katie Stewart is going on fire.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, Daytona chance is trying to build that kind of run there.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: I also want to touch on trade gambler because I thought he had one of the more resilient like.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_03]: to inning stretches and things like that that kind of exemplifies Oklahoma's.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_03]: We can now be headed up to Lawrence.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to all of that here in a little bit promise.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_03]: We will clear out a full recap of full preview.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: Everything of Skips Crew who is playing outstanding right now is they dumped out the number two overall see the George Tech Yellow Jackets.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_03]: rip to the jackets.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_03]: But first, before you get to all of that, while that was going on, there was plenty for Oklahoma fans to be excited about this weekend, had a big recruiting weekend, a good time to kind of flip the calendar, roll it forward and really try and get ahead.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_03]: But before Oklahoma wanted to get ahead, they wanted to lock up one of the big premier in-state recruits, my state's Gabriel Osborne, Oklahoma, the state, not the university.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_03]: three top 50 guys in this class, which we've talked about it over and over again.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_03]: Brent Venibals coming in, it was going to be kind of a return to recruiting the state of Oklahoma.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_03]: And that's in any class, but when you have a class like this, it is crucial.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's important that you don't have a Josh Proctor that you don't have a DAX Hill.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_03]: Those guys need to stay in Norman America and Osborne announced that he is planning on staying.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_03]: in Norman, he'll join Cadenpinny, he'll join Cooper Hackett Carson.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: It was the number one number two number three target, everything on the the vision board for the weekend and the sooner's got it done.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it's massive, especially when you consider the other teams in the top five four Osborne's recruitment.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that was Bamo, Ohio State Miami, Michigan.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Those four programs not only have had a lot of success, they have a lot of money, and to out, maybe outbids not the right word, but just to impress Osborne enough to make him want to stay at home, see what they're building, see how good this defense has become.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: steadily under Brent Vinnables.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that says a lot about how good the defense has been, the culture that Vinnables has built within that defense.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: But it's massive.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: I have it admittedly gotten the chance to see Osborne play in person.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's highlights throughout standing just the total ball hawk type of corner back.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a huge get.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously like you said Cooper Hackett, Kate and Penny, two other local kids.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: Only one local signee from the class of 26.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: I know he's a guy that they've been on for as long as you can be on in on a guy, right?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: But I think one of the things that I was really intrigued with John is when you have a recruit like this, Brent Venibals going to be heavily involved in the front office, going to be heavily involved.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_03]: You've got all of your area guys that pound the pavement in Oklahoma, but at the end of the day,
- 5:21[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of the few spots where you're looking at not just a new position coach, but going to Jason Whitney, and I think everyone's like, I don't think any of your crew's going to be like, no, I don't want to come here because Jason Whittens here.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: Dylan McCull, we talked about his track record and while it might not be Demarco Murray, and the name that Demarco still obviously has that resonates with your crew's.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_03]: The more more, I feel like it's a little bit different.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: J.V.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: L.I.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_03]: is back to back freshman all Americans at corner.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's a great selling point.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_03]: He heads up to the bills and while
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: it means good things, right?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: Like that kind of departure means that you're getting high production, high quality production that the NFL was very, very interested.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's still a new thing for Lamar Morgan that like, you've got a bunch of insulated stuff, a bunch of people helping, but at the end of that, you just can't screw that up type situation.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to understand Lamar Morgan, but I thought that was really, really important to you, John, that you, that was the one spot that, hey, could that maybe disrupt a that a local recruitment type situation?
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: Um, Lamar Morgan fell in line behind everybody and again, it's a full recruiting effort.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_03]: But it was going to spearhead that thing, but good work to not be like the butt and then lead Gabriel Osborne to go elsewhere or something like that.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the thing with this particular recruitment is, uh, this particular commitment, I should say, um, they got Cooper Hacker, they got Caden Penny, okay, those are two of the three probably best prospects, most highest rated prospects in the state of Oklahoma.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: You love that.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: You love getting the local guys when they're really good, especially.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: You love realin those dudes in the four stars and the five stars.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Those are offensive linemen.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, break that was needed a four star high four star potential five star defender out of the state of Oklahoma that
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: To me, change is a little bit of the dynamic of how he's going to be able to finish maybe that class.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about a guy like Gabriel Osborne.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's the number six corner in the country.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's arguably the two or three depending on who you rank.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I've seen him, I've seen him previously rank number one in some rankings in the state of Oklahoma.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: When you bring those guys in from the state of Oklahoma and they play on your defense and your Brett Venables, the defensive head coach,
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: That allows you to go around and talk to a lot of other recruits and say look what I got here look this kid from Oklahoma look at this dude so that's huge
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: also helps in not saying anything, but we know the world that you live in, retention if you're underpaying, if you're under coaching, it doesn't matter how big your dreams are and stuff like that, but you're not worried about a stud getting home sick and turn around and leave or stuff like that, if you're keeping the in-state kids in-state, which is huge and Ryan, as we gather here, a big happy birthday to Jim Nagy here on June.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_03]: The fourth, I think this is big for him as well, because it's Carson mentioned only had one in-state guy in the 2016 class.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: When Jim Nagu was hired, he was about as transparent, I think is anyone could be saying, listen, recruiting is a multiple year relationship building process.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_03]: Our staff, we're going to come in, we're going to try to help.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_03]: But the 2026 classes kind of on down the road so we can help with some evaluations here there stuff around the fringes of the class.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to try and sink our teeth in and as Oklahoma kind of walked away from some of the instate recruitment around the edges.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: There was the as Jim Aggie going to revert back to the link in of you're just trying to get what is a Maryland for store versus Oklahoma forced to be
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_03]: No, you look around.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: There's been no question.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_03]: You get the premium high-end top notch talent that's in the state of Oklahoma.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: And Jim Naggy is marching under the same drum beat as Brent Minibals.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody else, but it's like priority number one.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_03]: Fence the state, keep those kids in.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, especially when you've got a big time guys like those three that we've talked about in the lead off the in state class and it's going to be cyclical there's going to be years where there's not as many of those type of guys, but when you've got them, you know, it you've got to be able to keep at least most of those guys home and to who's point.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, these are the kind of defensive players that OU has not been able to keep in the state for the last few years.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you think about Josh Proctor, you think about Dax Hill, guys like that who went outside the state to play at the Ohio State and Michigan and had great success there.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just another example of how this defense is grown, this coaching staff is grown
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Jim Naggi is really being able to sink his teeth into this class where last year was just like, hey, where can we support you now it's fully integrated and he's a part of it and they've had great success in state and obviously it's helped that they have the on field success that they can sell in a much different way than they could, you know, for most of that twenty twenty six class.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_03]: And this just feels like it's like this class and the stars on lighting, Brooklyn, who do this is the culmination of like years and years of work.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_03]: Cause we knew it.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_03]: It was, you talk about Proctor and Hill.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think about Kindle Daniels II, who initially sided with A&M, then transferred to Oklahoma State.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_03]: And was part of that that Grinch views me as this, and I wanna play this, yes sure.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: But everyone knew that like Lincoln Riley, it was no secret.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_03]: The coaches across the state of Oklahoma and the high school ranks.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_03]: who were very vocal, immediately when Britain was came in just like, hey, I've got Oklahoma coaches assistants rolling through.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't seen Oklahoma in this building outside of, hey, we've got a big time.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: God, just to like check in and years and years and years and years and years and
- 10:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of those situations where that's why you put in the work even years where you don't take 7 local home of guys or something like that.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_03]: Why?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_03]: So that your poised to strike and as you said, Avery, you also have to have the on-field success, which I think is a full credit to everything.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that 207 class, we're certainly seeing a lot of synergy between the front office and the coaching staff and things like that.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_03]: But you could have had a fine year last year, and I think you should have had a good recruiting class.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you would have seen this, which is
- 11:19[SPEAKER_03]: Is it going to have the top end top end guys to maybe finish at number one?
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: You'll have like the top core back stuff like that.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe not.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: It looks like A and M is continuing to surge and B in the mix there.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_03]: But, of course, when there is no reason why if this class does it keep rolling on that you can't keep top five in your mind and keep pushing there, which is the only place you've got to be, it feels like.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's funny.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: You see a lot of these other fans, especially Texas fans being like, oh, it's three star after three star.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: They really can't say that anymore.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: You see guys like Osborne, Penny Hackett, obviously.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Guys from outside the state like crew Jones, he's going to be a a minis from everything I've heard.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so it's a really good class, even if the average or cruding
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: ranking isn't as high as say LSU and in Texas Tech.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: To your point, yes, they can absolutely flirt with the top five, which would be a remarkable considering the stay in age.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, OU has money too, but going dollar for dollar with programs like Texas Tech, Texas A&M, it's not an easy thing to do, and I think it just speaks volumes about the culture, like I said a minute ago, that eventables has built the efforts by Jim Nagy and his crew.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Commits are going to come and go.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: We saw that a few weeks ago with Jackson Stokes, the committee, there will probably be more until between now and December.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's just for cruning.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: Kids change their minds.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: They get other opportunities.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably going to happen.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: But from what we're hearing, we're going to see a lot more commits and really good one soon.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be just fascinating and to see how this class grows.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_03]: Osborne not the only one dealing with college.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's on the board as well in the 227 class lands running back to Kobe Dixon, 510 or 210 over ANM, Oregon, Texas.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_03]: There are others like what Houston and stuff like that was in the mix Baylor by any.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: So another one to where you had captured been he stayed put cars.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_03]: We do that there was going to be some turnover with the running back class just because
- 13:11[SPEAKER_03]: One coach out he committed to do coaching stuff like that, but it was one of those things were just like, I am not panicked about it, not concerned and it did not take dealing the call along to target his second 2027 running back to add along side, killed a bit.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's exactly right, losing a guy like Stokes.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you'll always hate to see that.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: Sounds like he was very talented prospect, but staying home in California and now getting a kid from, I believe it's Texas that shows, oh, you over A&M, Texas, Oregon, three really successful programs in this current state of college football.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: And that's an impressive thing to do add that with a kid, a light, Keldrid Ben, who,
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about previously on this podcast.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: That was a heck of an evaluation by Nagi in the front office.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: He was an unrank for crew.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: Only offer, I believe, was McNeece State.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: Then he gets the OU offer.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: Suddenly, he's a consensus for star.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Every major program is offering him.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: And now he seems like he's locked in.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: He confirmed that he's not taking his official visit to Oregon, which was supposed to be this week.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: So that makes it seem like he's pretty firm in his pledge with the suitors.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then just adding that with another guy.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: Three star recruit, Mike Dixon.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a recipe for success.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: Being big, big, big weekend from Oklahoma.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_03]: Sounds like they got everything they wanted out of that.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: Visit weekend, some other guys to be on the lookout for as well.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_03]: So it seems like the magic number of two is not going to be it from the recruiting efforts.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_03]: Not just throughout the entire cycle, but this past week.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_03]: And that rolled into, it's camp season, right?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: We've flipped the calendar to June, which means that you get into some of the camps, cars, deer out there Tuesday, Wednesday, you'll be back out there.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_03]: What tomorrow?
- 14:47[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, my days have run together.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: We're at that point in the summer.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what's north, what's south, but a couple of offers filter announced sounds like an offensive lineman impressed on Tuesday and then on Wednesday was just kind of a scatter plot of guys that came in worked out with the coaching staff and everything and certainly have heard more from the front office and the coaches since then.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a few offers trick trickled in from the first day of camp two offensive rhyme and got them Jackson Waller and then Declan Huying.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that's how you say his last name.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: Both of them looked really good.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Really physical have a lot of the tools needed to be a power for offensive lineman.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to Huying.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: There is a story on Sooner's on SI.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to check that out, he said that it was just a phenomenal experience loved.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: learning from Bill Beatumbo, this was his first time meeting him in person, first time in Norman, no less, too.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: So he was just blown away by the experience, and really it was a lot of the skill position guys yesterday that stood out at camp, Rush Williams is one that I think.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's the name to keep an eye on.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: He is a player with
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have the rankings yet mostly because he's a 29 prospect, but he has offers from a lot of those big dollar programs.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about Texas Tech, Texas A&M, a lot of other SEC schools too.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people are going to be hunting for him and I think it's a good sign that there's interest.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's coming to camp as an incoming sophomore.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's huge.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, there was just some other guys, some 29 receivers got some offers too.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Wyatt Cordray, who was a local titan from Midwest City, plays at Carl Albert.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: He also got an offer yesterday to, from the Sooner's, he's a life-long OU fan.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to him to just said it was so cool.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't realize how big Jason Witton was.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he knew of his accolades, his incredible career.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: But just learning from a guy like that, realizing like, oh crap, I do have to,
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: get a lot bigger if I want to play here or in a different power for program one day.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: He also seems thrilled by it going to be back for a game this fall he said so really interesting to hear a local kids perspective too.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_03]: I always appreciate, this is not the number one, two, three, or four priority, but between deal with McCullough and Jason Whitton, Oklahoma did not lose the coaching staff that I would not want to mess with, Monica, I think Oklahoma still wanted those for sure.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like Carson said, those stories about Oklahoma's winners on si.com, they'll be filtering out here throughout the weekend into the weekend and into Monday.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: and Tuesday and the best part of the side, Carson's great insight, foods on the ground, the interviews, all that stuff.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: Everything at OaklandSoonersonSide.com is always totally free.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_03]: No paywall, nothing like that.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_03]: Just fire it up, plug it in, and get all the deeds on all of those offers.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like we said, those are going to continue to roll, throw you'll be back out there, Friday.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: Is there a date next week you're out there as well?
- 17:34[SPEAKER_03]: Is it?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, I don't remember if it's Monday or Tuesday, but there is one camp next week.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: beautiful, beautiful.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: You'll be in it.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_03]: Thankfully, though, you'll have to have two to pause and take in the happenings and Lawrence on Saturday and Sunday and Monday's Oklahoma makes their way up there.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_03]: But we are in the midst of recruiting season will continue to.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: keep our ear to the pavement working all that stuff as you get into the summer, but gentlemen, the other big thing going on right now for softball, just the portal, no news has been good news for Oklahoma, as far as that goes.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: for OU baseball is they headed out to Atlanta.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: It was OU, the Citadel Georgia Tech getting it out and Carson, it started out, I think somewhat, a little bit predictably, there was rain, we had talked about that, they had the book to Saturday, take down the Citadel and game one, unable to make it happen in game two against Georgia Tech but it feels like Sunday may have changed the trajectory of this entire season for the suitors.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: No, it absolutely did.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this, the outcome is no, it's not anything like Georgia text fraudulator or anything like that.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: This is just, oh, you playing an outstanding week.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: And after kind of getting punched in the mouth on Saturday evening, just a heck of a response beating the Citadel twice and granted for a three seed sake, a 35 win team from the Southern Conference.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: That is exactly the strongest regional at the bottom.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: But you look at how good this Georgia Tech team was.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Ironically, we talked about this on the
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Georgia Tech and UCLA seemed like the clear number one number two teams in college baseball.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're at Super Region a weekend and neither of them are still alive.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: That just shows the nuttiness of this sport.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but Georgia Tech that line-up, whether it's fun, lackey, Drew Burris, Park of Roaches 1 through 9, I mean it.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: It was the best offense in college baseball and at times it looked like it But some really good outings by the bullpin which is something that we hadn't seen in weeks That was a big struggle to in the regular season.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was a struggle in the SEC tournament game against LSU And then obviously the time we at bats from the usual suspects like Dayton the chance Jackson will its tree gamble
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: But also Dayton, Taki, Kai will branch down the stretch, just some really big, gritty at bat, some patient at bats, and that ultimately got them over the hump which, and it's no so I don't know you and I say this, I don't think many people saw oh you coming out of that regional.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: I personally did not Georgia Tech, is that good of a team, it just shows that this team, when they do fire on all cylinders, they can be really, really hard to stop.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_03]: It just had bad match up right now, over at who we talked about last week, right?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_03]: That with the highs and lows, localist pitching staff had gone through that offense, but we'll get to, oh, use offense here in a second because they matched and exceeded everything that George affected, but how about skip judge just being like, hey, let's go and do it regional.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go freshman freshman freshman, the star having the faith to throw that out there multiple times and it felt like,
- 20:40[SPEAKER_03]: This was, like, you take a step back and John, my biggest thing is we just like, you can tell that Skip Johnson has navigated his way, pasted together, stapling together, bullpins, things like that.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: Because it felt like he pressed every right button down to which freshman to star.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_03]: And the flip side of that is, let's throw, came out there.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's going bad.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to pull them under 20 pitches in and just know that we don't have time to see if he can find like, it seemed like Skip had his pulse
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: They did, and that's, I mean, Carson mentioned it perfectly, the fact that they went into the season with three well-defined starters, three guys that look like, you know, had had a big league potential, certainly Cam Johnson was one of those.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, by the time the season it, we watched the team play all season, you know, the year of 2026 unfolds, and our M.O.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: is on this team is, okay, really good, potentially
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: really good offense, but inconsistent, but that bullpen stinks, that bullpen's got to get better.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: The bullpen doesn't stink anymore.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: The bullpen got way better, and you look at how they finished the game with one of their starters, you know, I think it was game two, one of their starters, L. J. Maccurious.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's a former starter, and he's closing the game, pitching the final four innings, with one hit baseball.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: the fact that they were able that skip was able to go shift things around okay you're started now you're in the bullpen you were you were starting now you're closing and be better than they all have been all season like at some point you got you you start to give up a little bit on your bullpen you start to realize okay we need a closer
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: We need a starter who can go deep and forget long relief.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: We got to go situational on our bullpen.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: Skip did kind of a little bit of that, but he also just went, you know what?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go long relief.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if we can get four innings out of our, our second and third guys.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Three innings out of our second guy, ridiculous.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: So hats off, kudos to the OU bullpen and the OU pitching coach coaches who ever worked with those guys.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was impressive.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Avery, the backdrop, all that is, again,
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: That's top of the base.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't like they were trying to piece it together.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_03]: And it was, oh, like if they had done that in like Morgan town and West Virginia makes it through the super stuff like that, West Virginia not a bad op, but it's like, no, no, no, this is the premier offense in baseball and being able to stay put together.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was like the most important thing and we're gonna give a ton of love to the OU offense itself, but also the ability to
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: You have, you know, one or two misplaced in the field and it never seemed to snowball, which has happened at times with skip skies and years past that it seems like one air and the whole defense has the yips for a whole week and they were able to reset and just get back after it day after day, ending after in it.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that was the biggest thing that even when they, you know, gave up some runs and they were down, uh, they were able to to manage it and, uh, keep it where that offense could, uh, could strike.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I think we really saw that on Monday in, in that game with, uh, you know, that, that could have gotten away from them after they, they blow the lead and Georgia Tech starts extending it.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: And, and you think this thing could be over really quick.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: the bullpen was able to manage things, keep it tight, and that offense was just able to get rolling, get rolling, get rolling, and then all of a sudden, Taki does what he did and the rest is history.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yet another example of how good Skip Johnson is is a pitching coach that
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: you know, they might not have the best pitching staff in the country and and or even in the SEC and you might doubt it at times, but they've got a way of coming up a big when it matters most and they did that again this weekend.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a question guys, the shot of the tournament for my money so far and I mentioned this on Twitter was Tauki's mom.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: During the home run, she just, like I'm getting up close to the, for you, you audio listeners, I'm getting up close to the video right now, so I can show you the face.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, here's my eyes looking this way, because he's batting.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: He hits the ball and she goes.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: Follows it with their eyes.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Expression never changes.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: Ball goes over the fence and she just covers her mouth like this and just starts sobbing into... I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I
- 25:20[SPEAKER_03]: and on top of that, it was also great to have that on the screen as well because the thinner builder skip talked about been like in the dugout.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_03]: You could tell that the center field never moved it was just gone and it was almost like a little bit of shot from Georgia Tech.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_03]: But they were playing deep and so on the prom cast, you didn't know like
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: Is this going or is the center like it's he rooted because he knows it's gone or is he rooted because he's can't that under Then it like clears the batter's eye and they're like very quickly like okay, that was not even close That there's just a monster monster shot and kind of fitting that if Georgia Tech's gonna go down on a walk off The after everything that their offense is done showing people all year long.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_03]: It was an absolute tank To make that thing happen, but before you've even got there guys I feel like that game was so exciting that some of the Sunday craziness was lost and I go back to
- 26:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm happy for a guy like Tray Gamble because I think that if a vocal was a lesser team mentally or I think it's like that, the moment in the third inning in the Sunday game against Georgia Tech where Georgia Tech kind of puts it on Oklahoma and you're starting to go, oh no, it's this set, is this the moment where Georgia Tech does where what they've done to so many teams this year just kind of hopping on people.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_03]: You get the third base up that throws his hands up to to declare it was a pitch clock violation, but we don't see that and instead gamble rips one kind of through the middle of the infield and you're thinking, okay.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_03]: They're going station to station all that stuff and then they have to bring it back and and Carson, we talked to skip this word and he's like, I saw it happen, but it doesn't map they don't make it any less mad that like technically it's right like we just rip.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_03]: Like obviously we'd rather just have that pitch than the pitch clock violation of that stuff for him to strike out, but then come back, Oklahoma has the 11 guys sent to the play eight run for and it the kind of exclamation point on that was in his next at back, gamble was able to go deep it wasn't quite the granny, but I just thought that like that.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: freeze frame from the end of the third to how the fourth ended was like the perfect encapsulation of the entire weekend.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_03]: None of it was smooth and easy, but there it is.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_03]: There's kept rolling and skips just like to say, they just played baseball.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was poetic.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this team prides itself on chaos.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: Some weirdness has to be entailed in that.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that was just such a remarkable turn in the game, like you said 11 guys to the plate.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: Eight runs and eight spot, I mean, there's not much that'll shift the game's momentum to that.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously the game wasn't how to reach at that point for Georgia Tech, but talk about just a total shift.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: I believe it was seven to two in that game in favor of Georgia Tech.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then, oh, you score is eight runs, I mean,
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's gotta be taxing.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's gotta be draining.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: I was never a baseball player, but I can't imagine the emotions of trying to battle past that even if I'm not the one pitching.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: Even if I'm standing on first base like that, that can't be an easy thing.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously set the tone for that win and at least gave them the chance to come back out Monday and of course like we talked about.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: We saw what happened Monday.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: So pretty remarkable.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the thing, the thing about that whole deal was,
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: You knew Georgia Tech was going to rally because they have the talented offense and the explosive bad offensive style and You know they're coming you know they're coming and you know the runs are gonna happen and they happen and then the 7th 8th 9th and 10th innings of those last two games.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: They outscored Oklahoma outscored Georgia Tech 10-0 I mean, yeah, let them come here.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: They come and it was like you know the white wall, right?
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: They were charging the gates and the big the big ice wall and in the game of thrones You ain't getting through We're gonna go ahead and we got we got a rally for you and the rally is a 10-0 in the last two games Last four innings of the last two games remarkable performance by Oklahoma so I have some some similarities Not that anybody wants to jinx it.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: You don't talk about going to the what calls for those series when you're Starting the the super split.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: I do have some similarities if you guys want them
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: It, uh, we'll, we'll give that here one second because I just want to have this Avery.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: It felt like, uh, I felt like we were transported a little bit because what happened with Oklahoma felt very, very similar to what you and I covered as well as Carson in person at love's field where you have a big massive favorite coming into that kind of thing.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_03]: And, uh, as you said, who've it,
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: The reason why they're able to outscore them late is because George I could got on them early, but you go to like the Monday game.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: This moment that Patel babbled the charging it and wasn't able to scoop it home, suddenly they start to tense and tighten up and I think you could kind of feel it through the TV on certainly Sunday, but in the Monday ride and it's one thing to like,
- 30:01[SPEAKER_03]: put a scare into the big seed.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's another thing to play loose, play free, not tighten up yourselves, which is what I think has happened at times throughout SEC play on the road specifically for Oklahoma.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: And to be able to kind of put all that aside and just kind of say, we've played these massive SEC atmospheres.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: This is just Sunday to us and what we've been doing all year long.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's pretty incredible to put that all together.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's a testament to Skip Johnson, and you know, talked about earlier his prowess on the pitching side, but just keeping his team ready for those moments.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Samantha Ricketts on the Mississippi State side to your point, there, did that and kept her team really loose and free.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: And,
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: when things tightened up for Oklahoma, they're talking about the softball side, then they were able to keep it loose and just keep rolling.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's exactly what happened with Georgia Tech in Oklahoma.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: when, say, oh, you tied the game or really even before that, the play you're talking about, things like that, you just felt this tension on the Georgia Tech side.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, we can't be another number two overall seeds to be eliminated, and, oh, you was able to just play free and easy.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: and they were able to, you know, produce through that.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that speaks really well to the job that Skip Johnson and that staff did in keeping that team, you know, loose like that and ready.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, some of the lessons that they learned throughout that growing SEC schedule that you mentioned, just paid off well at the end.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: You'd certainly rather
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: then you know have a great regular season.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: And then fall on your face in the regionals like both UCLA and Georgia Tech did this year.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: Was it quite the highest of highs of another Victor or Georgia Tech has delivered this Oklahoma baseball program in years past that one obviously in Omaha.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_03]: But Janet, it was a team going to the south.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_03]: endurance of rain delays during a regional weekend.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_03]: A couple years ago, it was Florida that Oklahoma had to overcome this go around Georgia Tech, not quite SEC, but former SEC way, way, way, way, way, way long time ago.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_03]: We can start to draw some lines and draw some through lines if you want on top of some of the other things that happened for Oklahoma to catch fire, not just make it to Omaha, but post their pre-depth and stay as long as possible in Omaha
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: a couple of similarities and a couple of not similarities.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: The 2022 team that went to the national championship game and lost to Ole Miss.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: They went, they were the big 12 champs, big 12 tournament champs.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you guys remember that.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: They won the big 12 tournament.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: This OU team finished 14th I think in the SEC.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: Was it 11th?
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Type for 11.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I was thinking 12.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: They finished Type for 11.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: And Owen won in the SEC tournament.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: So not similar.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: That team did win two of three from Florida in Gainesville in the NCAA tournament.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: This year's team in a regular season series lost two of three at Gainesville.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: uh... that team went on the road and uh... one two a three at Virginia tech this team's gonna have to go on the road and went to three at canvas which is sort of similar but not that similar that team went into the cause world series that for uh... with a forty two and twenty two record this team is currently thirty six and twenty two so they would need to get there with a similar record thirty nine thirty eight twenty two thirty thirty twenty three
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: So there are some similarities.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: There are some likenesses between the two teams.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact is that team, that Oklahoma team 22, yeah, they got hot at the right time.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they want some unlikely games.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they made a charge to the championship game when no one expected them to.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: But that was a really good team.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember the number.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Was it nine guys drafted off that team?
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, nine seniors or something like that.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember exactly the number, but that was a fantastically talented Oklahoma team.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: This one probably not as Harold did.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: but maybe by the end of the tournament in Omaha that they call the College World Series, are we allowed to say College World Series like March Madness, or are we going to get sued if we say College World Series?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think we'll be, I think they're just happy.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, ESPN is a feature of the dang thing, so I guess.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: Why would they would be mad at us actually cover it?
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: By the time that thing gets wrapped up, and if Oklahoma still alive toward the end of it, like they were last time, I predict there would be quite a few sinners drafted out this team as well.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_03]: something that Skip Johnson did point out as we talked to him today.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, way back when you had someone at the back of the bullpin, catch fire in Mr. Trevor Bicycle, Carson, I know you weren't around for that little bit, but Skip did say the Jackson Cleveland Relief showing and everything he was able to do to hold everything together.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_03]: He was, he did say it was getting like a little bit of flashbacks in the dugout at times and that certainly good news, especially.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: All it takes is we've seen this time of time one week in like that to set of ready into this just space of momentum and catch fire for a couple of weekends.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he looked fantastic this past weekend in Atlanta.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: And he had some ups and downs this year, obviously Texas, one of the outings got away from him.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of the success had just kind of come and gone for him, but he looked really sharp.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: In the hoop's point, I think Eljima here, this out of a bullpen lately, has been great.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't imagine that's a hard thing to do, too.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: Start the years of transfer from UNLB, be determined to be the Saturday starter, get promoted to Friday starter, then lose that because you're struggling so bad and get moved to the bullpen.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be really mentally taxing as a player would be easy to be like, okay, I'm out of here after this season.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: kind of check out but he he was a sharp as anybody and I believe it was the last game against Georgia Tech maybe it was the Sunday game I don't remember he was he was excellent in his last outing and he has been for a couple weeks now so I think that's something whether they opt to move him to more of a starting role going forward or
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Keep him in the bullpen.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like he kind of has the swagger.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: What we saw against Oklahoma State in that first, or I guess second game of the year.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: So he looks like a really good option.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, Ter Ryan's point, Jackson Cleveland's just been greatly lately, seeing his outing some other guys that really struggle in Nick with low skis certainly looked better lately too.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: So definitely just seems like more options to keep things at bay when there are sticky situations.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_03]: Up next it is the J-Hawks it's gonna be another in a weird way it's gonna be an incredible atmosphere, but it's not like one of the massive massive incredible like engulfing stadiums that is in college baseball we know that Kansas is pulling out all the stops everything in the outfield they've moved the visitors bullpen into the performance center so that they can have stay in your lonely out there as well.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: Carson Kansas comes in the 15c they're the regular
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: of the big 12, just what's the load out on the J-hacks because it seems like the biggest trait of this J-hacks team, it's a bunch of jukego guys coming together, they just don't had a win, like in thinking, hit the home rom ball, it seems, they're not like a thousand things that jump off the page, but all they've done all your longest play winning baseball.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: They really have, and it's really cool to see a team like Kansas and Super's considering how bad that program has been for decades now.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: Last year they showed their flashes made it to the tournament this year.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: They win both the big 12 regular season and tournament titles.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're the clear best team in a conference that also has West Virginia errors on the state.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: Some other good teams in there, so that's impressive.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I think to your point, they win baseball games because they're complete.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're pitching staff isn't the best in the nation, their batters aren't the best in the nation.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: They're just an all around fundamentally sound baseball team, well coach.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, to my point, a second ago winning the big 12s, not easy and getting through that regional last week and wasn't easy either.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'd argue the war inspirational with
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: Arkansas is your two Missouri State one of the better smaller programs in college baseball is your three Northeastern is a four that's been a really solid small program in college baseball lately Four teams in winning every single game against four really good squads.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's very impressive and sets them up well I'm so I think it's gonna be a really competitive series just based on how complete they are and how well OU played against obviously the number two overall seat
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: ABER was a aggressive, uncalled foreshot against the program for Kansas Coach San Fitzgerald to merely acknowledge.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think we'd rather play the unceded team as opposed to number two team in the country, and I don't want to.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think you can let that slide a little bit.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: You can understand it on his point, especially since they get to play at home this weekend.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it's about as good of a scenario as you could script out for Oklahoma.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: like you mentioned with Kansas that nothing is overwhelming about them are really good team who absolutely deserves to be there, but
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: you just went on the on the road and and beat the number two team in the country and uh... you know did it in in wild fashion so i think you take that your fans it's a nice easy drive for them to get up there you would imagine there'd be some or o u fans up there the maybe they were in it lander uh... but uh... so it's it's not easy never is it shouldn't be to get to Omaha but it's about as good a scenario as you could have planned out
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: for Oklahoma, especially given the way that the season ended for them.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Hey Georgia Tech might have all that talent and be all the numbers and be the number two team in the country, but I don't think they've hit 28 home runs in their last 11 games like Oklahoma has.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they put a lot, but OU is on an absolute heater, and by the way, Lawrence is kind of on the way to Omaha, so just saying that.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you do a little stop-in, and the hardest thing this week, and it's not going to be the actual, like, track-up there, it's going to be ticket per curement, because as an Arkansas fan's found out, that wasn't the longest track-over either, but you've got, as you've kind of as you're Carson and Amir, it's really cool to see programs where it's like,
- 40:49[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we know that Arkansas baseball is always on fire or to see the way that Lawrence is kind of responded to this baseball team and the atmospheres that they've rolled out there.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a very interesting course.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_03]: But what do you have, not saying to, you know,
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: wet blanket or whatever, but the offense has been rolling.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: It seems like that's maybe more of a stable thing.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_03]: Would you be shocked if we see, it was a bunch of young guys in the pitching rotation, obviously, to start things in Atlanta.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma's got options that those guys don't come out and have the same kind of start.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not thinking like court raider just more some of the, sorry, something to take guys, but I mean, that could roll through than the obviously Oklahoma has the formula ahead to work through three games on the pitching side.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see what they do, obviously.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think Corb Rayger is a good option to start one of the games.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's been outstanding for a freshman this year.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not every outing has been perfect, but he's looked really good.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: Assuming he stays in the program, that's going to be a good arm in the staff for a long time.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they move more curious back to a starting role, obviously he's younger brother, Zander, more curious.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: He started a little bit, I believe that was his...
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: first career star that he pitched against the Citadel, and he looked really solid out of the gates and that one.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe they go with him, maybe they go with obviously his older brother, L.J., Cameron Johnson's interesting, because obviously he looked rough only made it 12 pitches.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the first of those last two Georgia tech games, but he's been dealing with some injury stuff.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's played him in the back half of the season.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen what he can do at his best, but I don't know if that's something skip in the crew.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: We'll trust it at this point.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think it is risky, but on the flip side of that, if he's dealing, he's dealing as well as anybody.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there are so many different ways they can approach this maybe.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they throw a kettle on over a couple of linings before things spiral we saw that in the Monday game looked really sharp out of the gates, third inning really cost him, but maybe they just work him a couple of linings if things get dire on, say a Monday game if it goes three.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think that what we saw with cam as far as you get a couple of that bats in just a quick hook.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think that just might be the at least for this week in the plan of hey, piece out there gives you three innings awesome if it looks shaky from the start.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_03]: Nothing against you, but we're in do or die baseball type situations, so we will see Saturday, five o'clock central Sunday, five o'clock central.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: That's the two games that we know.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_03]: Monday, if you need it, TBD, they'll figure out how many games are playing on Monday, all that fun stuff.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_03]: Hopefully, the rain doesn't take its toll on
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: This weekend's happenings, I think last I looked, it's kind of been a day to day, hour by hour type situation.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_03]: Sunday might be a little bit in danger, a little touch and go.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see it wouldn't be postseason batesball without some weather delays, though, across the country.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: And then like we said, Monday, if it gets there, all that stuff, we'll have full coverage of all of that.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: And the website is Okuma suitors on SI.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: dot com real quick aber as that we get a little bit further into portal season on the softball side of things the portal does not officially open until the eighth, but we know this world veterans of the portal now, if you listen to this, you don't have to enter you can announce all that stuff, Oklahoma has had no one else, it is 12 25 on Thursday.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_03]: No one else at this second has announced that there, we headed to the portal, we think like that outside of the ZK's and T.I.M.A.Loy, across the country, I don't know, I know that adding pitching will be a priority.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: The top arm in the portal, heaving our right now, at LSU, there's not a ton of like, top end, top end, oh my gosh, this is gonna be a free-for-all type stuff as far as the pitching staff goes, which on one hand,
- 44:20[SPEAKER_03]: You have a ton of seniors that are unbelievable graduate out this year.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_03]: So it feels like a lot of the ACEs across country on seniors.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_03]: On the other hand, you used to have to look at like, it was a Mississippi state that gold and fair cloth came from Troy.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_03]: And it was a chana nuga, basically.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't necessarily have to be the Santa Landry.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_03]: It was excellent.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_03]: She came from Louisiana.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if she had the fanfare going into the portal that she did up getting by the time that you made the world series.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_03]: So just because there's not a blowy away type name, that'll come a can't find good pitching in the portal.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, we've seen it, you know, Carly Kini, we've seen Hope Trout Wine came from North Texas and even though she had a couple of games that were eye popping, it wasn't like a sure thing that she'd be as good as she wound up being at Oklahoma.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think there are some intriguing names you mentioned.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: Heavener, one of them, Kaylee plumbly at Tennessee, who didn't pitch much this year, but
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, we'll see where she winds up, uh, ending up, but it's not going to surprise me if they wind up picking up one of these transfers from a smaller school like some of the ones you mentioned and turning them into an ace.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, like we've seen so often with Patty gaso and Jen Rocha.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_03]: Most important thing for the pitching is going to be a full off season of Jin Rocha and hopefully health all permitting and Jin Rocha seem to be rocked and rolling there once she returned and it was able to link back up with the program after her leave of absence.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that that's important too.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: I know that we get into such a, again, it's a result space business.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_03]: If you don't win at the end of the day, everyone's unhappy, but there are some things that when it's easy to forget just the bind it'll come
- 46:10[SPEAKER_03]: first time with a really young pitching staff for the most part things like that.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_03]: So we will see as far as that that he did with with with with with with a plank talking about how they will be taking a look around in the portal basically saying that when you don't make a talk of the city, not that they need a full blown blow this thing up and reset it, but she did say we will be I think the word she uses will be taking a peek into the portal to see what they can find a little bit of a reset.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, hope.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to follow up with you know we wife and I've been watching women's college row series of out of Oklahoma City this week and as you see the final four kind of emerge and then the final two what the the thing you keep seeing the theme that is that runs through all four of those teams.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: elite pitching all-time great pitching some of the best pitching in the country pitching some of the best pitching ever pitching right and then you see you know people like Jordi National Player the year her team went on to despite her best efforts you guys I what I think Ryan a champ and I think it was you that just said they're not gonna get it would be okay if they don't get elite pitching they'll find some good pitching
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: That goes against what Oklahoma's had the last four or five years, doesn't it?
- 47:24[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I mean, I'm not trying to throw people into the bus, but like, Hope wasn't a Lee, Cali wasn't a Lee, until she was a Lee, like, at the end of that, I think my takeaway from the world series has been a lead pitching's getting knocked around.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's been my takeaway from the world series, is that there have been very, very few one or two of the Nebraska games.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_03]: Certainly the what was it the second Texas Tennessee game that Kavat like you're having moments where it's like yes, they can go out there and deliver a gym, but I also think you're seeing that like at the end of the day, and this was the issue in game three of the super saver we can talk about the pitching all you want if you put a goose egg on the scoreboard guess how many games you're going to win you could have
- 48:03[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you could get Kalani Rickets and her prime and Paige Parker and her prime and Jordan and her prime to all pitch to itings and throw somebody else out there and you're going to win zero games if you can't come up with clutch hitting.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no doubt about it.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: They've got to, you know, be able to be much more consistent offensively.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_02]: They've got to get a really good pitcher.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it has to be, you know, at that elite level.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Texas Tech has two of the best pitchers in the country right now.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: And they're really good and might, you know, win the next two and win a national championship.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: But we've seen
- 48:41[SPEAKER_02]: get hit around a pretty fair amount during this women's college world series and I think yes.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: you've got to have a picture that you feel comfortable sitting out there and certainly to whose point all four of these teams have one or two, especially in the case of these two teams that we see here, standing two pictures that you can really feel comfortable roll and out there with candy and Terry and Tegan Kaban and Siddhalli Gutierrez on the Texas side, but
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: The pitching isn't just absolutely in shambles.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's just they need somebody that can really shore up the top part of that rotation and be able to give them consistent innings there.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it can be a pitcher like a hope trout wine and Alex Terracco, pitchers like that, who maybe weren't overwhelming, but could certainly get the job done and get the job done in Oklahoma City.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: big picture question for our softball experts here.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: Texas is that close to winning its second consecutive national championship after having zero prior to last year.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is the thing unfolding in Patty's lap is the thing crumbling before her eyes as Texas is that close to winning another national time.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_01]: Not just another but back to back after playing in the national championship game year before that.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, it's incredible the plucky underdogs that the long horns are that they're, uh, you know, able to be this close to pulling off this amazing feet because they are clearly the have not of the Soppa world.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: You feel for him.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you, you have to.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_02]: But in my mind, I'm, if I'm, oh, you and, and Patty, yes.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: I may be more concerned about what's happening in love with NIL money and everything else that's gone down there and what that means for the future of the sport rather than what Texas has done because
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: you know Mike White's been fantastic for a long time.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_02]: I know you fans don't want to hear that, but he he's a really good coach.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's a really good pitching coach in particular and you know it's not surprising with this group of talent that has been largely you know brought up from within that they're in this position that they are.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: All come as well.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_03]: So five and two against Texas the last two years still like Texas is probably able to sit the rings on the table.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_03]: They're not going to be anywhere near as heavy as what patty gas.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_03]: So she's going to like pull out a bag and dump them the table.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_03]: But I think it just goes to show you that it can be.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: You can have all the talent.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like this Texas team for the most part is the same group.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_03]: It takes, I think, a leadership group.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what Oklahoma's not been able to replace.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: That they were able to replace Jordi.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: And when a national championship, the next year with Kelly Maxwell, but they had that core leadership group.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_03]: But I know that Kelly went there the whole time.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: But it was all said, done you in the 10 seniors in that group that had led all the way through.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_03]: And I know this is an impossible thing to like evaluate in the portal to the Dean pitching.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they got to need like a catcher and then builder and outbuilder.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yes, yes.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_03]: The biggest thing they need is leaders because this is a Texas tech team that it wasn't facing elimination in the Lubbock regional But it was the winners bracket game.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: They're down eight nothing.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_03]: What did they do?
- 52:04[SPEAKER_03]: They were back.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_03]: It was the Texas team that lost game one to Arizona State that has been on the brink of elimination The entire time at the Women's College World Series and what was one of those tenets of the Oklahoma teams that it was you know Foreigner row who view and I've been sitting together a brand eye in the same press box, but
- 52:21[SPEAKER_03]: both right in our own stories.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_03]: It was like, don't quite write the story yet.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_03]: If vocal homes behind, because there's going to be another twist to other turn.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_03]: And there were times like that this year, and certainly last year for Oklahoma, you just get to, you know, at the World Series.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_03]: They've
- 52:35[SPEAKER_03]: abdating homers off nysia and seven and it's like, well, let's hang on in the text to text able to come back, but I think that the leadership aspect, the leadership angle is like the biggest piece and in some ways it's the hardest because you can be in the portal and stuff like that and you patty gas, I can see all the numbers on paper, but I just don't think she ended up with the right mix this year.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_03]: And part of that, I think, is that you have
- 52:57[SPEAKER_03]: Some still a bunch of younger pieces could that be like as simple as Kind of well is not being a freshman emerges and is suddenly because she's not a freshman She feels like I can take on this bass of leadership role Maybe is that something you go out you just get seniors in the portal and hope they bring that maybe as well But I think that that that's a big piece of it because for the longest time It's like it's never been a talent thing for Texas.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_03]: It was always can they get over the hump and it feels like they got one win against Oklahoma City And it's unlocked the floodgates to maybe two national titles
- 53:25[SPEAKER_01]: My question, of course, is being rooted in the fact that the reaction to what do you mean Oklahoma has at one national championship in two years?
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: What the hell's wrong?
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, one year they've made to the championship game the next year they, you know, barely didn't make, didn't quite make it to the tournament.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: Our reaction to that is, well, how could they not, how could they, I don't know, you two years in a row, not win the next title.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: The cherry on top of that, of course, being, oh, it was won by Texas, both years.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: So there's kind of a give and a little
- 53:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, give it up to whoever wins the national title this year.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's Texas both years.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's what that's the stinging part for I would think for this program, or for fans of this program.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a lofty lofty standard.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_03]: It must be tough for that stretch of this last two years.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_03]: The time of people would take a good supers run and be in in the final four.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_03]: But when you come off of certainly everything pati-assos done for the previous four years, I think every other chance they're like, wait a minute, this feels weird.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's all we got here for this week.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_03]: Next week, back to the normal schedule.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_03]: I won't have anything on Wednesday that'll be keeping Carson away so that we can check back in.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: We'll have plenty of reaction is either Oklahoma will be breathing, Omaha, or
- 54:35[SPEAKER_03]: pre reviewing an incredible run here in the postseason by skip johnson and crew as far as that goes we're pretty real quick and have Mike white on next week.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_03]: I might I might I can reach out.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_03]: He's not on zero chance.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's probably not going to do it but Mike white and I are on good terms.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a nonsense.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_02]: Just just bring up Chelsea.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think we got to have a report now.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be good.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I can track him down.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_03]: See what happens now.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_03]: Just kidding.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: That'll do it for us.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_03]: Big thank you to Brady.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'll let him out of the bunker here in a couple minutes.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_03]: Shout out to Abraham to Carson to who.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_03]: for basically putting up with me per usual.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_03]: The website, Oklahoma suitors on si.com, Oklahoma suitors on si.com.

- 55:32[SPEAKER_03]: Just hit the football tab, scroll.
