- Jays win big! This is The Sports Reset for Thursday July 9th. In MLB, the Jays owned the Canadian headline, beating the San Francisco Giants 10 to 0 at Oracle Park in the kind of road game that lets a team save pitching stress and keep the dugout loose. Dylan Cease came within three outs of the headline every pitcher wants and carried a no-hit bid into the ninth before Heliot Ramos broke it up. The Tampa Bay Rays also blanked the New York Yankees 3 to 0, a sharper-edged result because any zero against that lineup stands out. The Los Angeles Angels had the loudest margin of the night, rolling past the Texas Rangers 13 to 1, while the Los Angeles Dodgers had to work tighter, edging the Colorado Rockies 4 to 3 at Dodger Stadium. Elsewhere, the Chicago Cubs beat the Baltimore Orioles 9 to 7, the New York Mets handled the Kansas City Royals 6 to 2, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies 11 to 5. At Wimbledon British wild card Arthur Fery beat Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6, 6-0 to reach the semifinals, where Alexander Zverev is waiting after a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 win over Taylor Fritz. Resetting to today, the World Cup quarterfinal between Morocco and France at Gillette Stadium is the matchup to watch, with a semifinal place attached to one game and no room for a reset. In golf, the Genesis Scottish Open is underway with Tom Kim, Bernd Wiesberger, and Matt McCarty sharing the early lead at 5 under, while the ISCO Championship has Ricardo Gouveia, Chad Ramey, and Ivan Cantero tied at 1 under. On the LPGA side, The Amundi Evian Championship already has a clear early marker, with Aki Iwai at 8 under. In MLB, the New York Yankees get another shot at the Tampa Bay Rays today, the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles run it back after a high-scoring opener, and the Los Angeles Angels try to carry that offensive surge into another meeting with the Texas Rangers. Beyond the scoreboard, Justin Verlander says this will be his final MLB season.
