- 0:01Speaker 1: One fifty one sent medical and one ten.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I knew a fourth.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Century I got a female down in the garage.
- 0:06Speaker 3: I'm sure she has mentioned to you that she and
- 0:12Speaker 3: I are go through a rough pash.
- 0:14Speaker 4: I mean, who do you think who do you think
- 0:17Speaker 4: you'll her?
- 0:20Speaker 5: You're watching totally true crime. Today's case takes us to Broomfield, Colorado,
- 0:27Speaker 5: in the United States. In the autumn of twenty twenty three,
- 0:31Speaker 5: married mother of three, forty three year old Christille Krug
- 0:35Speaker 5: received a text message. It was a message asking her
- 0:39Speaker 5: if she wanted to hook up. When she looked at
- 0:42Speaker 5: who had sent it, it appeared to be from her
- 0:44Speaker 5: ex boyfriend. She thought it was odd, it was widely
- 0:48Speaker 5: known that she was married with children. She decided not
- 0:51Speaker 5: to reply, but this message was shortly followed by other messages,
- 0:56Speaker 5: but also looked like they were from her ex. Hadn't
- 1:00Speaker 5: been with him for over twenty years, and this sudden
- 1:03Speaker 5: attention was odd.
- 1:04Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Christile did tell people that her ex had sent her
- 1:08Speaker 5: crude messages in the past. At first, the messages were
- 1:12Speaker 5: suggestive and sexual in nature, but they soon got more sinister.
- 1:17Speaker 5: She'd get messages calling her names and telling her that
- 1:21Speaker 5: this person was watching her. Here are some of the
- 1:24Speaker 5: messages Christill received.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Are you there? You should say yes when I offer
- 1:30Speaker 2: pity sex? Saw your pictures? You got fat? Bet your
- 1:35Speaker 2: loser husband won't fuck your fat ass. You should kill yourself.
- 1:40Speaker 2: You are a dirty slut, and I know how to
- 1:43Speaker 2: satisfy you. Admit that no one satisfied you since me.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I see you flirting with waiters, almost begging for sex,
- 1:53Speaker 2: licking your lips and got your tits out. Don't know
- 1:56Speaker 2: how many fuck boys you kept, but I'll save you.
- 2:00Speaker 5: He also threatened to kill her husband.
- 2:05Speaker 2: You don't belong in that big house. You belong with me.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I'll get rid of him and then we can be together.
- 2:12Speaker 2: So easy, give me the signal and he won't come home.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Every married whore I ever bang wanted to get rid
- 2:20Speaker 2: of their husbands. I'll do it for us. Help me
- 2:23Speaker 2: get rid of him, and then we can be together.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I'm planning a big birthday party for you, just me,
- 2:30Speaker 2: you and twenty friends. I know you're a dirty slut.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I'll treat you right. You can be slutty with me.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I'll take you.
- 2:38Speaker 5: These messages weren't just being sent to her phone. She
- 2:41Speaker 5: was also getting emails from burner accounts, as well as
- 2:45Speaker 5: deeply graphic pictures of a sexual nature. She decided to
- 2:49Speaker 5: report it to the police, and here is some of
- 2:52Speaker 5: the audio from her interview with an officer.
- 2:55Speaker 2: When did you pop back up?
- 2:57Speaker 5: So?
- 2:58Speaker 7: First text message was back in October?
- 3:00Speaker 4: Okay, just threats and just out of nowhere.
- 3:06Speaker 7: I haven't been doing it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: For her twenty years, Okay, so this is so.
- 3:09Speaker 7: This is the first time violent.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Okay, Normally it's a year's ago.
- 3:15Speaker 7: Okay, So the last contact was I'm guessing more than
- 3:21Speaker 7: five years ago, just because it was last I had
- 3:24Speaker 7: a Facebook and I don't have that.
- 3:25Speaker 5: I haven't had it since pre pandemic self.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Okay, easily, like how many years before that?
- 3:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, I'm completely at the blue and.
- 3:33Speaker 7: Not sees at all.
- 3:35Speaker 6: So there's responsibay.
- 3:38Speaker 7: And you still go in person stuff that's scaring the
- 3:41Speaker 7: crap enemy and why I loot. This was starting since
- 3:44Speaker 7: last Tuesday, and it's spent almost every day since.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Okay, I've gotten.
- 3:47Speaker 6: A few days break, and it's always been text message
- 3:51Speaker 6: or has it been any emails?
- 3:53Speaker 5: Any changings on our original kind of text messages into
- 3:56Speaker 5: She then started to get emails with photos attached to them.
- 4:00Speaker 5: One photo was of her husband getting out of his
- 4:03Speaker 5: call at his office. The stool call was made by is.
- 4:08Speaker 6: This his number? Where is he right now? What kind
- 4:10Speaker 6: of car is it? Like? Like this was alarming.
- 4:13Speaker 7: He's never said this kind of stuff to me, even
- 4:15Speaker 7: more so whatever and the fact that it went so
- 4:18Speaker 7: emotional is like something's really wrong here. Then things were dark, right,
- 4:24Speaker 7: And this is when I then contact you, guys, because
- 4:27Speaker 7: this now is escalating. This is not just threats against me,
- 4:31Speaker 7: streats against my husband. He contacts me and you'll see
- 4:35Speaker 7: my little lot that this is now this is an
- 4:37Speaker 7: email dress He contacts me now from more like he
- 4:41Speaker 7: actually reuses it, but he is.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Now showing that picture.
- 4:46Speaker 7: That day there's snow on the ground. My husband had
- 4:49Speaker 7: only gone into work on that Tuesday for Halloween.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Chrystill told her husband, done you about the messages that
- 4:57Speaker 5: she was receiving. He instilled full cameras around their house,
- 5:01Speaker 5: including one in the garage and one outside of their home.
- 5:05Speaker 5: The messages were unrelenting, with Christie jumping every time her
- 5:09Speaker 5: phone made us out.
- 5:11Speaker 7: Unfortunately, like because this is now like so distracting and
- 5:14Speaker 7: so constant and it does it just like anytime I
- 5:17Speaker 7: mon buses.
- 5:19Speaker 5: You don't know what's coming my direction. She told the
- 5:21Speaker 5: officers that it was affecting her ability to parent her
- 5:25Speaker 5: children and to conduct her work. She was a successful
- 5:28Speaker 5: biomechanic and a highly intelligent woman, but this stalking and
- 5:32Speaker 5: harassment was taking its toll on the whole family. She
- 5:36Speaker 5: bought a gun and she started target practice at her
- 5:40Speaker 5: local shooting range. She also hired a private investigator. The
- 5:44Speaker 5: police also started an investigation. They asked the couple to
- 5:48Speaker 5: keep a log of all the messages that they were
- 5:50Speaker 5: receiving and started to look into the communications. These things
- 5:55Speaker 5: often take time, so as the weeks went on, a
- 5:58Speaker 5: stalking intensified. Daniel and Christile named the stalker Kickman, because
- 6:04Speaker 5: they hoped that one day they would quote kick his.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Ass a Gmail account, a kick account that you guys
- 6:11Speaker 4: initially received with.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The photo of you in it.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Pristile was also worried that the stalker would target their children,
- 6:18Speaker 5: who were fourteen, eleven, and eight.
- 6:22Speaker 3: What do we do to protect family?
- 6:26Speaker 5: To protect the kids?
- 6:28Speaker 3: To fine your threat level?
- 6:30Speaker 2: She had a yup.
- 6:31Speaker 5: She was armed on the fourteenth of December twenty twenty three,
- 6:36Speaker 5: Christile was at home and her husband was at work.
- 6:40Speaker 5: She sent him a text message, and when she failed
- 6:43Speaker 5: to reply to his reply, which was to do with
- 6:46Speaker 5: arrangements for their children, he panicked. He tried to call her,
- 6:51Speaker 5: but there was no answer and subsequent messages went unread.
- 6:55Speaker 5: He decided to call a neighbor to see if she
- 6:57Speaker 5: could knock on the door and check in on his wife.
- 7:00Speaker 5: He also called the police meeting.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Hi there, my name is Dan Krug. I don't think
- 7:09Speaker 1: this is an emergency, but this feels really weird. My
- 7:14Speaker 1: wife isn't responding to text messages or phone calls, okay,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and we've had we've had threats against us. We have
- 7:28Speaker 1: both been targeted by a stalker. Threats have been made
- 7:32Speaker 1: against my wife and threatening to kidnap her, which is
- 7:37Speaker 1: why I'm nervous that she's not answering me.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Officers arrived at the family home in Briomfield, Colorado, and
- 7:46Speaker 5: when they pull up, I notice a woman is looking
- 7:49Speaker 5: through the windows into the house. She explains that she's
- 7:53Speaker 5: a neighbor and that Daniel had asked her to do
- 7:56Speaker 5: a welfare check on his wife. Please tell her that
- 8:01Speaker 5: they'll take it from here. Hello, I was just on
- 8:04Speaker 5: the NEI.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he sent us as well, so okay, alrighty man,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 8:15Speaker 5: And they start looking through the windows, shining their torches
- 8:19Speaker 5: through them to see if they can spot any sign
- 8:22Speaker 5: of Christilee. They approach the garage door, which has a
- 8:26Speaker 5: window at the top of it, and the search for
- 8:30Speaker 5: Crystille comes to a devastating end. The police can see
- 8:33Speaker 5: a woman matching Crystille's description lying on the floor of
- 8:38Speaker 5: the garage. The officers call for backup and medical as
- 8:42Speaker 5: they secure the home.
- 8:44Speaker 1: One fifty one medical and one ten.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I need a fourth century.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I got a female down in the garage.
- 8:50Speaker 5: At this point, they're unsure as to whether the person
- 8:53Speaker 5: who has caused the very visible injuries on her body
- 8:57Speaker 5: are still in the vicinity. The officers force entry through
- 9:01Speaker 5: the front door, and with guns drawn, they make way
- 9:04Speaker 5: to the garage, but it's too late. Christilee is dead.
- 9:09Speaker 5: She's been beaten and stabbed to death. Whilst the officers
- 9:13Speaker 5: tend to the horrific scene inside the family home, Daniel
- 9:16Speaker 5: arrives and he's told that they believe his wife has
- 9:20Speaker 5: been murdered. He falls to the floor and neighbors rush
- 9:23Speaker 5: to comfort him. He tells the officers that he's been
- 9:27Speaker 5: married to Christile for over twenty years, and he also
- 9:30Speaker 5: tells them that they'd both been victims of a stalker
- 9:34Speaker 5: that they believe to be his wife's ex partner. The
- 9:37Speaker 5: officers discover that the security cameras that had been installed
- 9:41Speaker 5: around the family home had been turned off, something that
- 9:45Speaker 5: Daniel said only could have been done via the app
- 9:48Speaker 5: that he and his wife had access to on their phones.
- 9:53Speaker 3: The other detective, Ah.
- 9:59Speaker 6: Said that the were turned off. That shouldn't have it.
- 10:08Speaker 6: The only way that the cameras turned off is through
- 10:15Speaker 6: the app. One of us has to.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Hit them button.
- 10:20Speaker 5: The front doorbell camera had a strip of blue tape
- 10:23Speaker 5: across it and it hadn't captured anything either. The next
- 10:27Speaker 5: thing the officers did was try to locate Christille's ex partner.
- 10:32Speaker 5: They discovered that he was an eight hour drive away
- 10:35Speaker 5: in Utah and his alibi was rock solid. When he
- 10:39Speaker 5: was told about the stalking, he had no idea what
- 10:42Speaker 5: they were talking about and denied all knowledge. So the
- 10:45Speaker 5: police looked at the email addresses that were responsible for
- 10:49Speaker 5: many of the threatening messages toward Christile, including the email
- 10:53Speaker 5: that had a photo of Daniel getting out of his
- 10:56Speaker 5: car in his office car park attached to it. They
- 10:59Speaker 5: looked at the email and found that the IP address
- 11:03Speaker 5: linked back to Daniel's office.
- 11:06Speaker 4: A Gmail account, a Kick account that you guys initially
- 11:09Speaker 4: received with the photo of you in it and the
- 11:13Speaker 4: phone number. Those originated through their IP addresses at your office.
- 11:19Speaker 6: Well, he took the phoo of me at my office.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Well, all of those accounts originated from IP address that
- 11:27Speaker 4: was to your office.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I don't know what to do with that.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Daniel had been the stalker this whole time. He was
- 11:35Speaker 5: the one terrorizing his wife and terrorizing himself to make
- 11:40Speaker 5: it look like he was also a victim. With this revelation,
- 11:44Speaker 5: the police now believed that Daniel had killed his wife.
- 11:48Speaker 5: But why. As the police continued their investigation, they brought
- 11:52Speaker 5: Daniel in for questioning. They didn't let on straight away
- 11:55Speaker 5: that they knew that he was the one behind the stalking. Instead,
- 12:00Speaker 5: they let him talk. He continued to say that he
- 12:03Speaker 5: believed Christille's ex had been the one to kill her,
- 12:06Speaker 5: and that he was sorry that he couldn't protect her.
- 12:10Speaker 4: I mean, who do you think, Who do you think
- 12:12Speaker 4: killed her?
- 12:15Speaker 2: I think? Hey?
- 12:18Speaker 5: But then the police tell him that this other man
- 12:21Speaker 5: has an airtight alibi and that the IP address from
- 12:26Speaker 5: the emails that were trolling and stalking his wife had
- 12:29Speaker 5: been linked back to his office. Daniel denied any involvement
- 12:34Speaker 5: in the stalking and his wife's death. The police now
- 12:38Speaker 5: needed to do two things, understand why he would do
- 12:42Speaker 5: this and if he had been the one to kill her.
- 12:46Speaker 5: As they started to look for a motive, it didn't
- 12:49Speaker 5: take long before they found one. Christill was planning on
- 12:52Speaker 5: leaving Daniel. Their marriage was on the rocks, and the
- 12:56Speaker 5: police theorized that he had started the stalking as a
- 13:00Speaker 5: way to make her need him, almost scaring her into
- 13:03Speaker 5: being with him.
- 13:05Speaker 3: I'm sure she has mentioned to you that she and
- 13:11Speaker 3: I are go through a rough patch cut on the rocks,
- 13:15Speaker 3: so probably didn't seem that present until until.
- 13:20Speaker 5: It was that Christille was a strong woman. She was
- 13:24Speaker 5: handling the stalking with an incredible amount of bravery. Regardless,
- 13:29Speaker 5: he decided that if he couldn't have her, no one
- 13:33Speaker 5: else would. He then decided to plot her murder, knowing
- 13:36Speaker 5: it would leave their three children without a mother. On
- 13:40Speaker 5: the fourteenth of December twenty twenty three, Christile dropped her
- 13:44Speaker 5: children off at school. When she returned home, Daniel was
- 13:48Speaker 5: lying in wait. He knocked her unconscious with a blunt object,
- 13:52Speaker 5: and he stabbed his wife of more than two decades
- 13:55Speaker 5: in the heart. But there was one issue. Whilst Daniel
- 13:59Speaker 5: hadn't been very however, when it came to hiding his
- 14:02Speaker 5: IP address, he had been meticulous in leaving no DNA
- 14:06Speaker 5: at the scene. A partial DNA profile from an unknown
- 14:10Speaker 5: person was found on Christie's neck, but there was no
- 14:14Speaker 5: physical evidence that linked Daniel to his wife's murder. Investigators
- 14:19Speaker 5: believed that he had sent himself the messages from his
- 14:23Speaker 5: wife's phone that morning to create an alibi. The messages
- 14:27Speaker 5: where his reply had sparked concern when they went unread.
- 14:32Speaker 5: The police forensically analyzed his mobile phone and his computer
- 14:36Speaker 5: in his office, and they discovered a list of disturbing
- 14:40Speaker 5: googgle searches. The day before his wife died, he had
- 14:44Speaker 5: searched when is a head injury a cause for concern?
- 14:48Speaker 5: How hard do you have to hit someone in the
- 14:50Speaker 5: head to make them unconscious? And how long can you
- 14:53Speaker 5: be unconscious without brain damage. They also tracked down a
- 14:58Speaker 5: transaction for a Berner phone made by a gift card
- 15:01Speaker 5: that was registered in Daniel's name. The Bernaphone was that device,
- 15:06Speaker 5: the one that was sending malicious communications to Christile. The
- 15:11Speaker 5: police decided to go ahead and charge him with four counts,
- 15:15Speaker 5: including first degree murder, two counts of stalking, and one
- 15:19Speaker 5: count of criminal impersonation. Daniel Krug stood trial in the
- 15:24Speaker 5: spring of twenty twenty five. He denied all the charges,
- 15:29Speaker 5: and his lawyers focused heavily on the fact that there
- 15:32Speaker 5: was no DNA evidence linking him to Cristill's murder. The
- 15:36Speaker 5: prosecution told the court they had a strong, circumstantial case
- 15:41Speaker 5: and that it was also backed up by digital forensics.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Daniel had no alibi for the morning of the murder.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Prosecutors also discovered that after Daniel sent the first message
- 15:52Speaker 5: to Christile from his Berna phone, the message that was
- 15:55Speaker 5: ignored initially by his wife, Daniel text himself from that
- 15:59Speaker 5: phone with the word test, to which he replied yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 5: When he realized the phone was working and that Christille
- 16:08Speaker 5: had simply ignored the message he said was from her
- 16:12Speaker 5: ex he messaged her again and again and again. The
- 16:17Speaker 5: jury also heard that two gofundmes were set up after
- 16:21Speaker 5: the murder Pristile's family had set one up for the children,
- 16:24Speaker 5: which raised almost sixty five thousand dollars. Incredibly, Daniel's family
- 16:30Speaker 5: also set up a GoFundMe for him to help him
- 16:33Speaker 5: pay for his legal fees. They said they needed the
- 16:36Speaker 5: money to put together a vigorous defense, and that raised
- 16:40Speaker 5: just over six thousand dollars. On the seventeenth of April,
- 16:44Speaker 5: the jury found Daniel Krug guilty of all charges and
- 16:47Speaker 5: he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility
- 16:51Speaker 5: of parole. He was also sentenced to another nine and
- 16:55Speaker 5: a half years in prison for stalking. Daniel Krug will
- 16:59Speaker 5: die in prison. Thank you for watching. If you found
