- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in today's episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a session all about
- 0:46identity and one of the things. That I look.
- 0:49At a lot is there was a character in the early.
- 0:52Days of NLP which stands. For neuro linguistic programming
- 0:56called Robert Dilts and he was pioneering in this idea of
- 1:00logical levels, this idea that if you just change your
- 1:03environment or your behaviour, that can have some impact but if
- 1:08you change the very core of your logical levels like your.
- 1:11Beliefs your. Values and your identity.
- 1:14That can have a profound shift and I was working with someone
- 1:18to look at what would it be to really shift their identity and
- 1:24what it would mean would be they keep the things that they want
- 1:27to keep and they discard what they.
- 1:30Don't and. It has this element of a certain
- 1:34metaphor that actually when you're shifting from one thing
- 1:39to something new, it is vulnerable.
- 1:41There is an element of risk. It feels uncomfortable, but
- 1:44sometimes not evolving actually causes a bigger problem because
- 1:50then you get confined and stuck. And.
- 1:53You can't really progress. And it uses a metaphor of a
- 1:57hermit crab because a hermit crab, you know, doesn't actually
- 2:01have its own shell. It has to find something
- 2:04normally from a different, you know, shellfish.
- 2:06It uses it and then when it gets too small, it has to leave that
- 2:10and find something bigger, more spacious, more suitable.
- 2:15And it's a great. Metaphor for shifting identities
- 2:18because even though we're the same person, our whole.
- 2:21Life we evolve. And change.
- 2:25And if you're honest, the person, you are right.
- 2:27Now wouldn't. Have a. 100.
- 2:30Percent in common with the version of you 10 years ago or
- 2:33even 20 years ago. There's bits that will remain
- 2:37the same, certain beliefs, but you're tasting clothes, you're
- 2:41tasting food might be different, you know, your political
- 2:45opinions may be different. Like you have an evolution as
- 2:48you evolve. And that's at the identity
- 2:51level. And this is designed to really
- 2:55focus on an element of that shy, introverted version of them that
- 2:59was in the past. They didn't really want that to
- 3:01be part of their new identity. They wanted it to really be
- 3:04about confidence and self assurance and those elements and
- 3:09that becomes part of the new identity.
- 3:11In order for you to really benefit from this session, I
- 3:13would encourage you to think about what a evolved identity
- 3:18would mean for you. What bits of your identity right
- 3:21now would you definitely want to keep?
- 3:23But what bits would you want to add or change or remove?
- 3:27And that will help you really to make the most of this session
- 3:30and really make it powerful and transformative for you.
- 3:34And the great thing is, when an identity shifts, it comes.
- 3:38With it. A lot of other values and belief
- 3:40systems. So if you can make a change at
- 3:43the identity level, it ripples through all the other logical
- 3:46levels, which is why it's so profound.
- 3:49And if you think through history, you know, if you think
- 3:53even biblical stories like the story of Paul turning into soul
- 3:57is this element of there's a. 100% three. 60° turn someone
- 4:03becomes in someone entirely different, and you probably know
- 4:06at least one person in your life that was like that, that they
- 4:09really were this certain character.
- 4:11And then something. Happened and they became clearly
- 4:14the same person, but a very different personality, very
- 4:17different character. And that's what is possible when
- 4:20you make a shift at the identity level.
- 4:23Obviously, it was created for an individual.
- 4:24Not all of the suggestions are going to be relevant for you,
- 4:26but if you like something customized, there'll be a link
- 4:29in the show notes. Or you can check out my website,
- 4:31adamcox.co.uk. You can book a free
- 4:33consultation. Call with me there and we can
- 4:35discuss what working together would be like and all the
- 4:38logistics involved. For now, though, find a quiet,
- 4:41comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:43Relax and. Enjoy the session.
- 5:38Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in a
- 5:50slow, long, relaxing breath, and as you exhale, feel wonderful
- 6:00sense of release as tension starts to feel like it's leaving
- 6:07your body in your outward breath.
- 6:17Breathing in resourceful relaxation and exhaling anything
- 6:27that feels that it doesn't belong.
- 6:34That could be tension in your jaw, could be a thought that's
- 6:41been ruminating, or a feeling in your gut.
- 6:49Just allow any of those things that aren't useful to feel like
- 6:54they're melting away and leaving your body in your outward
- 7:01breath, enabling you to feel like you're drifting off to a
- 7:08place where wonderful changes happen naturally.
- 7:18Breathing in and breathing out, Feeling comfortable, supported,
- 7:28Feeling tension leaving your body.
- 7:32And with each breath, feel yourself sinking deeper into a
- 7:39moment of calm and stillness. Feel ripples of relaxation
- 7:59starting at the top of your head and rippling down down your
- 8:03forehead. Your cheeks, your.
- 8:05Jaw down into your neck and your shoulders down into your arms,
- 8:13and maybe you could imagine the ripples on Stillwater relaxation
- 8:22rippling down into your chest, down into your gut, down into
- 8:27your. Legs.
- 8:27All the way down to your toes. I don't want you to use the
- 8:35power of your imagination to imagine yourself on a serene
- 8:46sandy beach. The sand feels warm beneath your
- 8:52feet, and the gentle sound of waves soothes your mind.
- 9:01Perhaps the horizon stretches infinitely before you, and with
- 9:08every step you feel lighter, calmer, and more grounded, as
- 9:15though each step releases anything that no longer serves
- 9:20you. And out.
- 9:27On the waves, just imagine a small sailboat gliding
- 9:33effortlessly across the water. It is the colour of the sails,
- 9:40shape of the boat and the speed that it travels.
- 9:46See the sailboat moving steadily, carried by the wind
- 9:53and maybe bobbing up and down on the gentle rhythm of the waves.
- 9:59And even though you're on the sandy beach, imagine what it
- 10:04would be like to be relaxing on the sailboat.
- 10:14Imagine the movement of your body and imagine a place on that
- 10:22sailboat that would enable you to feel away from it all.
- 10:30And if you want, because this is your imagination, you can slow
- 10:34down the wind, anchor the boat, or feel the exhilaration of it
- 10:40moving forward. However you want the boat to be
- 10:46is exactly as it will be. Maybe there's a smell in the air
- 10:56that salts sea water, Maybe warmth of the sun on your skin.
- 11:04I connect with a feeling of peace, freedom, but also a sense
- 11:10of direction. A sailboat is always going
- 11:18somewhere. I want you to get a sense then
- 11:27just as a boat, as a destination, you have a purpose.
- 11:34And what if connected to your purpose is to have a positive
- 11:38impact on people? Anything that takes you towards
- 11:45that destination will give you emotional clues.
- 11:52Even anxiety is a positive clue if it shows that this matters to
- 11:59you. Some people try stuff with a
- 12:03shrug, a who cares attitude. They don't have anxiety because
- 12:10they couldn't care less. A bit of anxiety keeps people on
- 12:17their toes. Too much has them running away.
- 12:24I want you to get a sense that nothing will deter you from your
- 12:31purpose. Enjoy being on that boat,
- 12:43feeling relaxed, breathing longer and deeper, feeling like
- 12:48you're drifting off to a deep place in your subconscious mind.
- 12:58I want you to get a sense then you are activating a new level
- 13:04of trust. Trust that you are capable of
- 13:10navigating your own journey to the destination or direction
- 13:17most fulfilling for you. And with every breath, feel
- 13:22yourself becoming lighter and more relaxed and more open to
- 13:27the possibilities that lie ahead.
- 13:34And maybe you can steer your sailboat into a quiet Cove.
- 13:41Quiet Cove with a sandy beach with the occasional rock pools.
- 13:53And imagine noticing something that captures your attention on
- 13:58the shore. A small hermit crab making its
- 14:06way along the sand. But this hermit crab has out
- 14:15outgrown its current shell, the shell it's lived in for so long,
- 14:27that's protected it, kept it safe and served its purpose.
- 14:33But now it's too small. And maybe for a moment you could
- 14:40imagine being that hermit crab, feeling the shell is too tight
- 14:46and restrictive, no longer allowing any room to grow.
- 14:54And the crab knows that in order to step into its next evolution,
- 14:59the next stage of life, it must leave behind this old shell and
- 15:05seek a new one, one that's fit for purpose, for its evolving
- 15:11self. And of course, it's natural for
- 15:16the crab to feel vulnerable in this moment of transition, to
- 15:21hesitate as it steps away from what's familiar.
- 15:27Yet deep down, it knows. That this is.
- 15:32Part of its journey feels daunting to leave the shell to
- 15:40be exposed, but it knows that it is capable of finding a new
- 15:49shell that will be stronger, more spacious, and more aligned
- 15:54with what it needs. So imagine being that hermit
- 16:01crab where the old shell represents the parts of yourself
- 16:06that once served you but no longer align with who you are
- 16:13becoming. This old shell has held self
- 16:18doubt, overthinking over preparation.
- 16:24Perhaps the hermit crab in the old shell was shy, always
- 16:32running back in the shell whenever danger or risk was
- 16:36around the corner. They protected you once, but
- 16:42they are now holding you back. You've outgrown them.
- 16:49They no longer fit the person you are ready to become.
- 16:54And so, just like the hermit crab, it's time to gently and
- 17:02courageously leave the old shell.
- 17:09Imagine doing that. Of course it feels strange and
- 17:15vulnerable, perhaps scary or dangerous.
- 17:23But as you take action, the fears go away.
- 17:30Feel the weight of self doubt lifting away, the overthinking
- 17:35dissolving into the sand. Imagine over preparation falling
- 17:42away like grains of sand. Let go of shyness, any self
- 17:52criticism, and any sense of selfishness.
- 18:00These parts are not who you truly are.
- 18:04They were simply aspects of an old identity that you no longer
- 18:10need to carry any more. And as you release them, feel a
- 18:18sense of lightness, a sense of freedom, as though you are
- 18:25shedding layers that kept you small.
- 18:37In this moment of transition, you may feel exposed, just like
- 18:41the hermit crab. That's not only OK, it's
- 18:46natural. But vulnerability is not a
- 18:50weakness. It's a sign of courage, a sign
- 18:56that you are stepping into a new version of yourself.
- 19:00So feel the strength within you as you navigate this space
- 19:06between the old and the new. Trust in your ability to grow,
- 19:14to adapt, and to thrive. Because a hermit crab that never
- 19:23leaves that very first shell becomes a prisoner of their own
- 19:34protection. What once kept them safe
- 19:40cripples them. It's a fearless sense of
- 19:45courage, adventure, a pioneer sailing into the unknown waters
- 19:53of your life. And now, just as the hermit crab
- 20:03finds a new, more spacious shell, observe it happening.
- 20:12See the crab climbing into that much larger, thicker, more
- 20:19protective shell than before? Took a risk to find it, but it
- 20:24found it. Something that was just right.
- 20:31And I wonder if you could imagine yourself stepping into a
- 20:35new identity, a version of you that fits perfectly with your
- 20:41purpose and your vision. And notice what's missing.
- 20:50Self doubt has been replaced with self belief.
- 20:55The overthinking has been replaced with mindful thinking,
- 21:02the need to over prepare has been replaced with a deep sense
- 21:09of agility and the ability to think on your feet.
- 21:16And this new identity holds confidence, self trust and the
- 21:24ability to set high standards with very achievable
- 21:29expectations. This new identity carries an
- 21:43ability for you to constantly improve through encouraging and
- 21:49coaching yourself. No failures, only feedback.
- 21:55Everything is an opportunity to improve and become wiser.
- 22:02A deep, unwavering passion for making a difference.
- 22:06Feel that passion within you and feel how empowering and
- 22:13expansive this new identity is that you're trying on for size.
- 22:20No shyness here, you exude confidence and notice how this
- 22:27new identity allows you to step into your purpose with a sense
- 22:33of ease and flow. This new identity just fits you
- 22:40better. I want you to imagine yourself
- 22:48with this identity a day from now, a week from now, a year
- 22:54from now. What used to cause you anxiety
- 23:02now gives you a sense of adventure, exhilaration.
- 23:09You can't wait to try these new things.
- 23:14Maybe you can picture yourself confidently coaching your
- 23:17clients, feeling a deep connection to your purpose and
- 23:21your passion. How these subtle changes have
- 23:31naturally evolved. Self doubt is self trust.
- 23:43Get a sense that you're having more fun, more fulfilment than
- 23:48ever before. Can't wait to be more of this
- 23:56version of you. And notice how in this identity,
- 24:04anxiety is not a deterrent. It's LED a red rag to a bull.
- 24:11It makes it more appealing, creates more determination.
- 24:19Anxiety will not deter you, it's just a sign that you're
- 24:27venturing out of your comfort zone until it feels comfortable.
- 24:35So take a moment to fully embrace this vision of yourself.
- 24:41Feel the joy, the confidence, the excitement of living in this
- 24:46new identity. And as you do, let this feeling
- 24:53be connected to a location somewhere in your body, maybe
- 24:58your chest, your temple, your gut.
- 25:05It's not a feeling of anxiety, it's a feeling of deep purpose.
- 25:12Your North Star letting you know exactly which direction to be
- 25:18sailing towards. And find yourself back on that
- 25:24sailboat now with a clear sense of where you're heading, and
- 25:32feeling a sense of excitement and passion while moving in that
- 25:38direction. And then teleport back to that
- 25:42original sandy beach, not as you were, but as you've become.
- 25:51It is the new identity on the beach now, not the old.
- 25:57And this new identity feels so much better than the last.
- 26:04That's it. It's time to take this new
- 26:09identity. Not as an idea, but it's who you
- 26:16are at your core, part of the fabric of your DNA.
- 26:23This is simply who you are, full of confidence, self trust,
- 26:31passion, enthusiasm. And nothing will deter you.
- 26:40So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 26:45nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 26:48your. Toes start to.
- 26:50Connect and calibrate into the here and now.
- 26:54It's very soon. I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 26:55awaken you, and you will awaken feeling resourceful, confident,
- 27:04but existing in a brand new shell.
- 27:08Starting to count 123, waking up 456.
- 27:13More alert 7-8. Open.
- 27:17Your eyes open. Your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide
- 27:21awake. Wide awake.
