- 0:00Speaker 1: We enter up this program to give you astasy in.
- 0:02Speaker 2: One of our sailor boy, I did get a bulletin
- 0:10Speaker 2: from my son, my sailor sun Festus.
- 0:13Speaker 1: How did he send that bulletin on WhatsApp text message?
- 0:18Speaker 2: I said, Sailor sun Festus, what's going on in the
- 0:21Speaker 2: middle of the ocean where you are stationed? And he said, well,
- 0:25Speaker 2: we just celebrated pickle night.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Pickle Night. That sounds like it's right up my alley.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So you know how I love pickles.
- 0:33Speaker 2: So, uh, Diego Garcia, where he's stationed, is a British territory,
- 0:38Speaker 2: and so not only do they celebrate American holidays, they
- 0:41Speaker 2: celebrate British holidays.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Very small little island in the middle of nowhere.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And uh, I think we talked last week about how
- 0:50Speaker 2: the Battle of Trafalgar, Yeah was last week. It's the British,
- 0:55Speaker 2: famous British battle between the Frenchish and the Spanish and
- 1:00Speaker 2: the British. And apparently and I sent some pictures to
- 1:05Speaker 2: Dawson that I hope he puts up there. So this
- 1:07Speaker 2: is the the the pickle pickle celebration, Pickle Night.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Why do they have a pickle celebration?
- 1:14Speaker 2: So the ship that was part of the battle at
- 1:18Speaker 2: Trafalgar was the HMS Pickle. So they have a Pickle
- 1:24Speaker 2: Night celebration where if you go to x ninety six
- 1:27Speaker 2: dot com slash live you can see some pictures. They
- 1:31Speaker 2: dress up in their dress whites and they have a
- 1:35Speaker 2: fancy dinner. The commemorative dinner is a grand affair, including
- 1:40Speaker 2: the parading of the beef.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I'm all for that, where.
- 1:44Speaker 2: They bring out beef Wellington. The parading of the beef.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Dessert is chocolate ships known as Ships of the Line.
- 1:55Speaker 2: So I guess they're chocolate shaped like a ship. So
- 1:59Speaker 2: Festus is like, was great, we got all dressed up. Well,
- 2:02Speaker 2: they went to this fancy dinner.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Now do they eat pickles?
- 2:05Speaker 2: I asked it and he said no, there were no
- 2:08Speaker 2: pickles to eat at Pickle Night, which there should be
- 2:11Speaker 2: I think.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean the tablecloth is green, which suggests pickles. Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Uh, So he's at this fancy dinner. Now, Festus, of
- 2:19Speaker 2: course is a medical provider on the island.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Well, please tell me he had to heimlick somebody.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Well he so he was, he was on call. It
- 2:28Speaker 2: was his night on call and he's sitting there having
- 2:30Speaker 2: a nice beef Wellington dinner in his dress whites, and
- 2:33Speaker 2: he gets a call, We've got a belligerent drunk person
- 2:38Speaker 2: that needs to be sedated.
- 2:41Speaker 1: A sailor.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so you need to report to the medical clinic.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And Festus is like, I'm in my I'm in my whites.
- 2:53Speaker 1: He's gonna vomit on me.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I know he is. He said, he said, how how
- 2:57Speaker 2: far out? How far out are you? And they said
- 2:59Speaker 2: about ten minutes And everything's really close there, and he
- 3:02Speaker 2: was like two minutes from his apartment. He's like, I'm
- 3:05Speaker 2: going to run home and take off my dress whites.
- 3:08Speaker 1: He should just put on an apron.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Do you have the next photo there? Dawson, Oh, that's so,
- 3:13Speaker 2: that's that's a later one. Actually, these are there. We go, he's, he's,
- 3:17Speaker 2: he's he's in the medical clinic with another medical provider
- 3:23Speaker 2: who did not get out of his dress whites before
- 3:25Speaker 2: he went in there. Now the picture that he sent me,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I have cropped it.
- 3:30Speaker 1: They is there a sedated patient lying on the table.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yes, with vomit all over? Why it because nobody wants
- 3:38Speaker 2: to see that.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I do. I cropped it. I just wanted to see,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you know what he had to work with there.
- 3:45Speaker 2: And he said, this guy was just belligerent and throwing
- 3:49Speaker 2: punches and spitting and yelling.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And I said, what fun.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And I said so what. So how was he the
- 3:56Speaker 2: next morning when he woke up, He's like, oh, he
- 3:58Speaker 2: felt he felt really good. Sure he did, really, but
- 4:01Speaker 2: they had to like restrain him, like tie him down
- 4:03Speaker 2: to the bed, and he he said, getting an ivy
- 4:06Speaker 2: in him was almost impossible.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Dave says, there's enough alcohol consumed on Pickle Night to
- 4:12Speaker 3: constitute the pickling of ones inside.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Probably and I and I said, I said, do you
- 4:18Speaker 2: deal with this kind of thing a lot? And he said, well, sometimes,
- 4:20Speaker 2: he said sometimes. The drunk guy, he's like, the other
- 4:22Speaker 2: day we had a drunk guy that was passed out
- 4:25Speaker 2: in a ditch and they brought him in and he
- 4:28Speaker 2: was like the apologetic drunk. I'm so sorry, I'm just
- 4:33Speaker 2: so sorry.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm just so sorry.
- 4:36Speaker 2: He also at Pickle Night they got some challenge coins,
- 4:41Speaker 2: which I also sent a picture of nice and it
- 4:44Speaker 2: says it says a celebrating pickle Knight says it right
- 4:48Speaker 2: right on the challenge coin. Yeah, and then that the
- 4:55Speaker 2: other side of it is the shape of the island.
- 4:58Speaker 2: So they got those challenge coins and then the last
- 5:01Speaker 2: picture there. I tried to send Festus a gift because
- 5:07Speaker 2: he said, you can send things here, let's look at
- 5:10Speaker 2: and so I tried to send so he had he said, mom,
- 5:13Speaker 2: I got my own office here in the medical clinic.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And so I was trying to send him like, oh,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I thought it'd send him some things from Utah to
- 5:19Speaker 2: decorate his office with. Like I was trying to send
- 5:22Speaker 2: him like a Utah mousepad or some you know, and
- 5:27Speaker 2: he said, Amazon will deliver here. So I went on
- 5:30Speaker 2: to Amazon and I wait, they will, yeah, two or
- 5:34Speaker 2: three different things. Well that's what I was trying to see,
- 5:37Speaker 2: is if they would send him something two or three
- 5:38Speaker 2: different things. I tried to click on and send, and
- 5:41Speaker 2: you know, when you're filling out the address, there's a
- 5:44Speaker 2: line there that says are you in the Armed Services? Well,
- 5:47Speaker 2: oh okay, so but for some reason, they won't send
- 5:51Speaker 2: just anything. So I tried to send a few things
- 5:53Speaker 2: and they're like, we will not deliver this to that.
- 5:55Speaker 2: So the only thing I could find that they would
- 5:57Speaker 2: deliver that was a Utah thing was a bag of
- 5:59Speaker 2: those Utah truffles.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I've seen.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Those in the they're like Utah brand truffles and yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 2: little chocolates. And for some reason that out of everything
- 6:11Speaker 2: I tried to send there, like okay, we'll send that.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And this is Festus picture letting me know that yes,
- 6:17Speaker 2: your your Utah truffles have arrived and we were enjoying
- 6:21Speaker 2: them in the clinic. So I now know I'm able
- 6:23Speaker 2: to send maybe some things.
- 6:26Speaker 1: These are his shipmates here, yes, so and so is
- 6:30Speaker 1: there are there British because it's a British protectorate. Does
- 6:34Speaker 1: that mean there are a lot of British.
- 6:36Speaker 2: There are British soldiers there, Yeah, and they're like British,
- 6:39Speaker 2: Like the police force on the island is British. Yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Like when when Festus sent me a picture showing me
- 6:50Speaker 2: he got a bike and there was a bike helmet
- 6:52Speaker 2: hanging on it and I said, I'm so proud of you.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You're wearing a helmet. He said, well, I have to
- 6:56Speaker 2: because the British police will give me a five hundred
- 6:58Speaker 2: pound ticket if I don't wear.
- 6:59Speaker 3: My This is all great on Navy Day and everything,
- 7:06Speaker 3: but he grew his mustache back.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I was all right, Well, you know, I think it's
- 7:11Speaker 1: because he doesn't I think it's because he doesn't want
- 7:13Speaker 1: people to look at that haircut. Maybe I was.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Gonna talk to him. I don't know why he insists on, yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The standalone mustache. None of them. There are three guys
- 7:26Speaker 1: in that picture. The other guys, not one of them
- 7:29Speaker 1: has a mustard.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, honey, I don't know why.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Let's get this taken care of.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Hello, sailor boy,
