- 0:00So many of our favorites to I like roller.
- 0:04Now they're being bashed. I guess.
- 0:07That's what we should expect on the bullied.
- 0:11Nostalgia podcast. Hello everyone.
- 0:18We're back with the bullied. Nostalgia podcast.
- 0:21I'm joined by kylin. Hello chance.
- 0:25It's me. Enjoy!
- 0:27I'm here. It is a very snowy day.
- 0:30Day. And we're here recording an
- 0:33episode for Honey. We Shrunk Ourselves.
- 0:38So, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is a very good movie and I don't
- 0:46know about you, John. It certainly means something to
- 0:49me the boys and I have been playing a video game called
- 0:53grounded, which is essentially Honey.
- 0:55I Shrunk the Kids, the video game where you have to survive
- 0:59in the Yard. So a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
- 1:04themed episode gelled really nicely and I think I've probably
- 1:09only saw Honey. We Shrunk the Kids, the original
- 1:12movie once or twice, okay? Because somewhere along the way,
- 1:16our parents decided they would never buy an original movie.
- 1:20They would only by sequels to movies or 3 equals or whatever
- 1:24that is right? So that's the segue into where I
- 1:28was going with this. John and I had made an agreement
- 1:31that it had to be movies that we owned When We Were Young.
- 1:35And we never owned Honey. I Shrunk the Kids.
- 1:38However, we did own the third movie in the series.
- 1:42Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves and it's only now that I'm realizing
- 1:47how many of the movies we've done have not been the original
- 1:51movie. We did Superman for lab 4 times
- 1:553. Just wait Batman 3.
- 2:00It's pretty much all been sequel movies.
- 2:04Why mess with a good thing. So today we're doing Honey, I
- 2:09Shrunk the Kids lesser worse brother, Honey, We Shrunk
- 2:14Ourselves and before we get into what we thought of it, or how
- 2:21this movie came to be chance, would you like to summarize what
- 2:26this movie is about? Alright, so, Our two characters
- 2:30named Wayne and Gordon stilinski.
- 2:32There are two scientists and inventors and one of them builds
- 2:36a shrink machine. The concept is they were going
- 2:39to watch the kids over the weekend, but through hilarious
- 2:43hijinks him his brother and their two wives.
- 2:47All end up getting Shrunk, the Kids thinking they've been left
- 2:51alone all weekend, get up to Home Alone, style Shenanigans,
- 2:55making messes eating, whole bunch of junk food, that kind of
- 2:58thing. And Into the movie is all about
- 3:01the adults, trying to find a way to make themselves big and
- 3:04communicate with kids chance. You said that the adults shrunk
- 3:07themselves? I wouldn't call that accurate.
- 3:10I'd say it's set of croquet balls.
- 3:13Shrunk them consistently a croquet ball would fall from the
- 3:18ceiling and Shrink them. Yeah.
- 3:20If we're looking at the antagonist of the movie, It's
- 3:23rabbit. So the first movie was Be
- 3:30successful so much so that they pumped out a sequel.
- 3:35And the sequel did well financially but went in a
- 3:41completely different direction. It's called Honey.
- 3:43I Blew Up the Kid which is not about explosions.
- 3:46It's right. It's about Rick Moranis making
- 3:50their toddler big instead of small and I remember seeing that
- 3:56movie in theaters and it doesn't have the same Peel as the first
- 4:02movie instead, it's like Godzilla movie with a toddler,
- 4:06essentially. Yeah.
- 4:07Because they're just tons of movies, especially kids, movies
- 4:11about shrinking down to a small size.
- 4:13I feel like and it has to do with the fact that people find
- 4:16it fascinating. Yeah.
- 4:16It's a different perspective and it makes everything that we take
- 4:20for granted epic and scary. So this movie was a return to
- 4:24form. It was going back to the basics
- 4:27saying, hey, let's make another Other big hit like Honey, I
- 4:32Shrunk the Kids but this time they're not in the backyard
- 4:36they're inside of her inside a house.
- 4:38So this movie was supposed to get a theatrical release in a
- 4:42budget of 40 million dollars. How much was the first one?
- 4:46You know that? I think the budget in the first
- 4:48one was 26 million dollars. Wow.
- 4:51So they were going all in and then somewhere along the lines,
- 4:55they decided, no, this is going direct to DVD directive.
- 5:00S. Yeah, so that hurt them.
- 5:02They slash the budget from 42, 7 million dollars.
- 5:08And I would say it shows, I think a good amount of the movie
- 5:13looks pretty good rather than use visual effects.
- 5:16They just make physical objects, a good example being.
- 5:19There's a part where he's in a stereo, the entire stereo is an
- 5:22actual room. They built out of foam and
- 5:24cardboard. And yeah, it doesn't like but
- 5:27when they do visual effects like there's a scene where there's a
- 5:29hot Wheels car. That scene looks very bad.
- 5:33Yeah, I was surprised at how many jokes in this movie.
- 5:39I enjoy, I expected this movie to be a dud, but I think that
- 5:45there's a fair bit of the original planned for theatrical
- 5:51release movie left in this. It's actually not a super bad
- 5:57movie but I think that the budget really lets it down the
- 6:03visual effects are weak and John made a comment.
- 6:08It feels like their size is super inconsistent.
- 6:11I think that's part of that. Same problem the green screen a
- 6:15lot. There's a lot of times where
- 6:17it's some background, that's just been dropped in behind them
- 6:20and often the background perspective seems off and just
- 6:26across the board. I think the visual effects in
- 6:31this movie are what is the weakest part?
- 6:35Yeah. Going back to what you said
- 6:37earlier is there a lot of great one-liners the child actors in
- 6:42this movie are just okay, in my opinion but the adults had
- 6:45actors I feel like really steal the show.
- 6:48For me. Good example being the Mike
- 6:50Moranis is named Rick Moranis. Rick Moranis, phenomenal actor.
- 6:53He's hilarious all the time and the other a person plays Gordon
- 6:59his brother. Although not as funny as Rick,
- 7:01the two of them have very good chemistry and they're just funny
- 7:04when they're together. Yeah, those two especially but
- 7:07the wives also had me laughing a handful of times I was being
- 7:11intentional about watching Rick Moranis.
- 7:14And like you said, even when he doesn't have anything to do, he
- 7:19is on. Even when it's other people's
- 7:22lying, he's making himself busy. He's active in a scene, his
- 7:27visual presence presence. Since is on point, 100% of the
- 7:33time. This is Rick, Moranis is last
- 7:36movie that he ever made. Unfortunately his wife passed
- 7:41away and so he retired from acting to be a single parent to
- 7:47raise his family. Obviously, he had this series of
- 7:51movies named after him, but Rick Moranis was phenomenal.
- 7:55In everything. It's just one of those scenarios
- 7:58where it is rolling. Ders is maybe next only to build
- 8:03Marie. The funniest thing in that show,
- 8:06it's just unfortunate that will never see any of his work again.
- 8:09Hmm, he's definitely a talented actor and that was a big talk.
- 8:14Now Ghostbuster remakes are commonplace, but one of the
- 8:20major conversations that they were having throughout the 2000s
- 8:25was, could they get Bill Murray and could they get Rick Moranis?
- 8:29He's obviously they never got Rick Moranis to come back.
- 8:34Allison Mac. Mmm.
- 8:37So Melville was a TV show about Superman when he was a teenager
- 8:43when he was a teenager that both Tim and I were into Tim, would
- 8:47sort of eventually take a break on the show and I would get
- 8:51super invested in, watch it from start to finish and aliceandmac
- 8:55played the character of Chloe in Smallville, which was a
- 8:58character made up for the TV show.
- 9:00She wasn't in comic books before that.
- 9:02Anyways, I sort of developed. Developed.
- 9:05I don't know if I would say a crush on Allison Mac but she
- 9:08certainly was my favorite Smallville character and was
- 9:12always rooting for her and caring about the scenes that she
- 9:15was in the storyline. She was a part of.
- 9:18And so, I don't know when I realized that she was the one in
- 9:22this movie. He was the one in this movie,
- 9:24who was a lot. It was a while ago.
- 9:26I think I like came up to one day and I was like, She's in
- 9:31like it was this Epiphany? Probably like eight years ago or
- 9:35something like that. And so well John Henry watches
- 9:39this show and it may be on a regular basis.
- 9:41No, I'm sure when I discovered it out what to YouTube and
- 9:44watched he'll watch one episode of Smallville.
- 9:46Then, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, then it up to the
- 9:48plaza. So Allison Mac is actually
- 9:51probably like 15 years old as an actress in this movie.
- 9:55I'm guessing and Chef said the kid.
- 9:59Actors are just okay. I would say she's better than
- 10:02okay. Oh yeah, she is.
- 10:03She is very good in this movie for a child actor.
- 10:08She is on point. There's one part where they're
- 10:11making fun of each other in the car and it cuts to the moms and
- 10:16it looks back and the facial expression that Allison, Matt
- 10:19gives you just like rolls her eyes and cringes, I was like, oh
- 10:22my goodness, that's why she's in character.
- 10:29She's nailing it, it was very funny because I, in my research,
- 10:35I knew that Mila Kunis is also an Israeli and John's jaw like
- 10:40hit the floor. He's like, is that is that?
- 10:43But she's so young in his movie. She's got to be 12.
- 10:47Maybe it's, it does catch you off guard, okay?
- 10:51That brings the question. How young are the two boys?
- 10:54There are three kids essentially who were the main characters.
- 10:57So all I can say did. Definitively is Rick.
- 11:01Moranis is kid in this movie. The one who plays Alfalfa in
- 11:06Little Rascals is meant to be the toddler who got blown up in
- 11:14the second movie, and this movie takes place 10 years after that
- 11:19movie. So he's so if he was one then,
- 11:24he would be 11 now. I get really excited.
- 11:29When I see characters in movies that I was closely following and
- 11:34TV shows like, yeah. When I watched lost, I would
- 11:37watch every single movie that had those actors in it.
- 11:41Yep. Or seamless Smallville because I
- 11:43spent ten Seasons hanging out with Allison Mac.
- 11:46She was the highlight of this movie for me.
- 11:49Yes. Here's the downside since
- 11:53Smallville it's come out, that aliceandmac was in a leadership
- 12:00role in a cult called Nixie. Mm, and it would essentially
- 12:07luer in powerful women and turn them into brainwashed.
- 12:13Slaves of the leader of the cult, they would physically
- 12:17brand them and it sounds like Like there was some sexual
- 12:23nature to it as well, they became slaves to the hierarchy.
- 12:32The part where Alfalfa says, we will be your slaves.
- 12:40Aliceandmac has not aged well at all, because literally, that's
- 12:46what she would go on to do is make slaves of all these people.
- 12:50But yeah, I it's tough. I hope that she finds the help
- 12:56that she needs. She was manipulated just as
- 12:59anyone else was, but at a certain point, You're also part
- 13:04of the problem and she certainly had become part of the problem,
- 13:08okay, Tiki man. So what Kaiser referencing here
- 13:12is a radiator, current character over me.
- 13:15Abby, plot in this movie, no, the tiki man is the reason why
- 13:19the entire plot and it does not wrong.
- 13:25The reason why Rick Moranis accidentally shrinks himself is
- 13:30because his wife is Sick of having a seven-foot tiki statue
- 13:34in their Hall and so she tells him to get rid of it.
- 13:38And instead of doing that, he secretly plants and shrink it.
- 13:43So that like the size of a name, they will appease his wife but
- 13:48he uses a key. Chains can have it with him at
- 13:50all times. So this guy wins a Nobel Prize
- 13:54and spends all of the money he gets from the tiki Steinem tiki
- 13:58statue in all honesty. I actually really like that.
- 14:02So plug is Rick. Moranis is a really good job of
- 14:05just being a strange eccentric guy.
- 14:08And having a giant seven-foot-tall tiki statue that
- 14:11he loves just as much as his wife is a good way to do that up
- 14:15until the actual shrinking. In this movie, I am 100% on
- 14:20board. The dialogue is good, the
- 14:22characters are likable and vocally said, I'm enjoying this
- 14:26way more than I expected. I want to keep watching this
- 14:30movie I think When it actually gets into the movie, the movie
- 14:34starts to fall down a bunch more.
- 14:36But 100%, the fact that Rick Moranis is going to such extreme
- 14:42lengths, to lie, to his wife, just so you can keep this Tiki.
- 14:47It's not admirable, but it is charming.
- 14:50However, at the end of the movie as a compromise, he makes the
- 14:54tiki man 100 feet tall and puts it in his backyard because
- 14:58that's how you do relationships and I can relate to that.
- 15:01I was just saying to John at last year in b.c. dinosaur
- 15:08museum was closing down and they were selling off all their
- 15:11animatronics. I wanted so badly to sodium
- 15:16intake is my entire life savings to buy a Brachiosaurus that was
- 15:21taller than my house that I could just keep in my backyard
- 15:26would be, like, where do you live the Brachiosaurus.
- 15:29House Brachiosaurus is Nemo. My favorite dinosaur but it's
- 15:33just, it would be so cool to have one as big as your house.
- 15:36You have to lock him up. I think people would come and
- 15:38try and steal how you don't lock up your house.
- 15:44I can take that away. I'm really saying is to bring my
- 15:53friends. Okay, step one, we steal a
- 16:00great. Steal a dinosaur step for you
- 16:05profit. No, the tiki is a good
- 16:11instigating device and surprisingly, it was weird that
- 16:16unlike the tiki man is, is the best way to start this movie.
- 16:21Tiki statues, a good instigator, unlike random croquet sets which
- 16:26are really dumb to explain that. Essentially what happens is they
- 16:30shrink, the Key and they go and look for it on the ground.
- 16:34And that's what I'm looking for it.
- 16:35I'm going to paint the machine is shaking that shrink them and
- 16:39the vibrations move a croquet ball from up above that falls
- 16:43into a track that comically rolls down and Falls onto the
- 16:48button that then shrinks them and then the wives come looking
- 16:51for them and the same. And the exact same thing.
- 16:53Happens. Another croquet ball falls down
- 16:54this track and the timing of the balls to fall when there's
- 16:59people there, like if balls were Constantly falling, maybe that
- 17:03makes more sense. But the ball like waits for 15
- 17:08minutes for the next victims. The first time I feel was clever
- 17:12the second time. It's not.
- 17:14I think they could have just done a much more interesting
- 17:17way. They could have had a rat that
- 17:19crawled on the ground and man I would have been fine with that.
- 17:25Why do we not have that Ant-Man movie?
- 17:28Why don't we just have a Honey? I Shrunk the Kids at Man movie.
- 17:31Gee, I'd watch that or somebody's permanently shrunk
- 17:34Marvel Executives. Is the listen, I'm pretty sure
- 17:36that's what the Ant-Man versus Yellow Jacket fight is, were
- 17:39there on the Thomas that shrank from that scene.
- 17:41Is phenomenal. Yeah.
- 17:43But what I'm saying is just give us that, give us like an atom
- 17:47movie. So Adam is a DC character who
- 17:50shrinks as well. Yeah, and he does a lot of stuff
- 17:55where, you know, he rides on frogs and he fights alongside or
- 18:00against tiny people. Don't do that.
- 18:03I mean, but give us stuff. That's relatable.
- 18:06They keep going so small that they're between molecules and
- 18:11quantum foam. And so now you're just in a
- 18:13Sci-Fi movie, but I like to see where you're just watching that
- 18:19Ant-Man movie from the ground, you know, right.
- 18:22Like he gets stuck small or there's a reason for him to
- 18:26remain small, we get to see that stuff.
- 18:30A tiny bit in the first Movie. And then the second movie
- 18:34becomes more about. How can you push this
- 18:36technology? Don't push the technology.
- 18:39Push the storytelling device, right?
- 18:42Sorry I took you off track though.
- 18:45I do have a note here that I think Dad's probably going to
- 18:49want to take a troll up. Is I am going on vacation and no
- 18:53one can stop me. It's relates to Rick, Moranis
- 18:57his wife. I really enjoyed her acting,
- 18:59choose a fun. She was all over the place.
- 19:01She was Eight, she is not the mom in the other movies.
- 19:05She was a recast for this movie probably because they had no
- 19:08budget but she does very good. I think the weakest part with
- 19:14her in it is when the Cockroach wants to eat her that scene is
- 19:18horrifying. Like genuinely it gets Play-Doh
- 19:22for Laughs. Yeah that's a terrible fight
- 19:25scene. She's just lucky that he wanted
- 19:28to eat her clothes and not her. Okay?
- 19:31There There's a scene later on the movie, where they meet a
- 19:33daddy long legs, and it's definitely animated to be cute.
- 19:37But I can tell, if you have Arachnophobia, it's still be
- 19:39scary. In this scenario, they took a
- 19:41cockroach which is still scary to some people and animated it
- 19:45to make it worse. Is an inch away from her trying
- 19:48to tear off her legs. And this happens for a total of
- 19:5130 seconds while she screams satisfying to watch that
- 19:55cockroach. Get stuck in the glue, though
- 19:57and dryer. I do kind of want to talk about
- 20:01the daddy longlegs because I will say that, that thing is
- 20:05still a creature that would eat them alive.
- 20:08Yak I made the same joke about eight times about it, randomly
- 20:12attacking them. Yeah.
- 20:14So I think you made a sound effect to yes, because there's a
- 20:18point where the mothers have to get up on top of the kitchen
- 20:21counter. So they can get one of their
- 20:23sons ways medication. So they domesticated daddy long
- 20:27legs, so they began. Yeah.
- 20:28They befriended a deal. Long legs.
- 20:30It's a symbiotic relationship whereby if they create from a
- 20:35few spider webs it will help transport them up the kitchen
- 20:39counter. That thing is clearly a
- 20:42terrifying Beast. They say earlier in the movie
- 20:45that daddy long legs are so nice.
- 20:48They eat other bugs, they are bugs, they are the size of bugs,
- 20:52guys, making all these jokes about the daddy longlegs eating
- 20:56the moms, but I look over at Kyle enough.
- 20:59Sure. And he's covered his eyes and
- 21:01his face because he can't stand to watch the daddy longlegs
- 21:06scene. I hate it.
- 21:08It isn't too scary. It's grotesque-looking, you're
- 21:12scared. No, I wasn't scared.
- 21:16I wasn't scared to connect with the daddy longlegs.
- 21:21She reaches out, her hand, and tickles, his mandibles.
- 21:24All four of them. There was a scene in this that
- 21:29props for them. I don't feel like a ton of
- 21:31movies were doing then nowadays. It's a very common conversation
- 21:36but this movie, tackled consent. Yeah.
- 21:40That was impressive. Yeah.
- 21:42Especially for the 19th 1997. Is that it happens?
- 21:46Yeah, I was in matches. Crushing, on this boy, she tells
- 21:50him that he pulls her aside at a party.
- 21:54So it's just the two of them and she kisses.
- 21:57Her. And she says, what are you
- 22:00doing? You didn't ask me.
- 22:02Yeah, and he says, well, this is what I do.
- 22:06You wanted this and she's like, no.
- 22:08I would have told you if I wanted this I think nowadays you
- 22:13guys probably wouldn't be shocked to see that in a movie
- 22:17but 25 years ago, yeah, that was not a common Trope.
- 22:25Another very important thing that this movie covers is one of
- 22:30the boys has a magazine. And yeah that's an entire scene
- 22:34where their backs are to the camera and they're talking about
- 22:39it and obviously magazine it's meant to Mabel - the dirty
- 22:43magazine and the one kids like man, if my dad saw this, he
- 22:48would freak out. Yeah.
- 22:50And then like they put the magazine on the floor for some
- 22:53reason and walk away Sports Illustrated for It's because
- 22:59Rick Moranis is grooming him to be a scientist.
- 23:03The idea of him doing something sports-related is forbidden.
- 23:09Something actually akin to, that that I found really kind of keep
- 23:12Nala, seal, and that was, at the end of the movie.
- 23:16He decides to go to baseball camp, the kid that is and
- 23:20afterwards. Rick Moranis is driving him home
- 23:23and there's this little part where they talked about how his
- 23:25dad and memorized all the, Batting averages.
- 23:28And there was a resolution at the end of the movie where he
- 23:30said, you could do whatever you wanted, but it was like that
- 23:32scene again, showed that Rick was actually trying to get into
- 23:35his son's interest in trying to connect with them.
- 23:37That's good. They're Dynamic.
- 23:40There's a scene early on where the kid runs out of peanut
- 23:43butter and a recovery rattus. Find solution is to find peanuts
- 23:49and put them in the coffee grinder.
- 23:51Yeah. And like it's just like black
- 23:53dust. Is that guy?
- 23:57About it says there's grounds in here and your accessible, it's
- 24:01decaf. It's a really good seed, like
- 24:06Dad has to be so clueless. Most other resolutions in this
- 24:12movie happen in the matter of 30 seconds, 30 seconds, once they
- 24:16all return to normal size, there's about six things that
- 24:20happen in the span of 30 seconds.
- 24:23Seems like I'm sorry, honey. I'll get rid of the Tiki man.
- 24:26I'm sorry. Sorry, brother.
- 24:28You can run the company. I'm not good and I'm sorry, I
- 24:31don't care about the little things anymore.
- 24:32You can keep the teak. I'm sorry, I should have trusted
- 24:35you. Yeah, it's the only one that
- 24:37wasn't. There was.
- 24:38I'm sorry. I should have taken my medicine.
- 24:40Yeah, that one that kid is never taking that medicine.
- 24:45Yeah, one of the kids has a potassium deficiency.
- 24:49Okay. The ebrake Yes, he break.
- 24:53It's a funny joke until it's not a joke.
- 24:58Essentially, one of the moms is extremely paranoid, but over
- 25:03everything. And so she pulls up to the house
- 25:07and then puts blocks under the tires.
- 25:09And the other one was like, why are you doing that?
- 25:13She said, well, the engine was making noise.
- 25:15I was worried. Maybe the brakes would fail.
- 25:18You can never be too careful. That's Pretty funny that would
- 25:24never happen if the engine was failing.
- 25:27The thing that makes the car go would affect the thing.
- 25:31That makes the car dog anyways. But so then they get shrunk and
- 25:35they like didn't put blocks out of the tires, they climb up to a
- 25:39window and they're looking at their card like look our cars
- 25:42there, the kids will see the car there and know that we're here.
- 25:45And then the car just starts driving into another person's
- 25:49driveway. It rolls away which Which in
- 25:52itself is also funny except that it rolls down the driveway
- 25:57across the street and up into the other driveway.
- 26:00Gravity means that it would come back down.
- 26:04Except that we established. That gravity is the antagonist
- 26:10in this movie. It is like this whole subplot,
- 26:13where it's Rick Moranis versus gravity.
- 26:17It's funny. We actually had a discussion
- 26:18about it and there were a lot of scenes in which the characters
- 26:21Fall From Grace. It's like there's one part where
- 26:24they fall down a laundry chute. There's another one where they
- 26:26fall off the Second Story on to the first story window.
- 26:29And then there's another one where they fall into dip and dad
- 26:32made a couple of comments about how they should probably be
- 26:35dead. Then I came to the realization
- 26:37that if there are three quarters of an inch tall, as stated in
- 26:40the movie by that math, is that their terminal velocity is very
- 26:45low, and that's why you can drop a mouse.
- 26:47When the Empire State Building and it'll survive when you're
- 26:49that small, gravity doesn't affect you the same way.
- 26:52Way. So in all honesty, all the times
- 26:54they must survive, it would actually you would be a little
- 26:57dazed but it can get up and walk away.
- 26:59My YouTube channel that occurs because that is what is class, 2
- 27:021. Yeah.
- 27:03And they have a series of videos called the size of life and it's
- 27:06fascinating. Yeah.
- 27:08The idea is amounts of a drop from the Empire State Building
- 27:10would get up and walk away. A dog would have its legs broken
- 27:14but an elephant would explode just because of how size affects
- 27:18things when they hit the ground. I'm seven a dog's legs with her.
- 27:22What is it on the Empire State Building to begin with John?
- 27:25You're not sad about the elephant food explode, like a
- 27:28water balloon, I feel a strong connection to dogs.
- 27:32I mean yes Rosco were talking about you frost was our dog room
- 27:38sitting in on the conversation but I want that truck.
- 27:41What about me? Let's address the elephant in
- 27:47the room. Carl?
- 27:48You could go down. Anyways, they have to Get off of
- 27:52things constantly in the movie but it only occurred to me about
- 27:56a quarter of the way through, so they could just jump off
- 27:58anything and I'm sorry, it'd be like falling through molasses
- 28:02not falling, normally, you're right, every time they would
- 28:07fall, I'd be like, so they're dead then you're like, oh,
- 28:10because there's so much smaller. Their terminal velocity would be
- 28:13much smaller as well. I was like, oh, my goodness.
- 28:17So I think that there is something to be said They need
- 28:22to treat the viewer as being really dumb because I'm really
- 28:26dumb. I would have never thought of
- 28:27that, but you're right. They could have just been on the
- 28:30bed and been like, well, let's jump down.
- 28:32They keep saying things, like, we'd never survive a trip down
- 28:35the stairs. Yeah, it turns out they would
- 28:37totally fine but we don't think in those parameters.
- 28:42And so, you need to tell the story in a way that the normal
- 28:46person yet and they could have solved that pretty easily.
- 28:48If they just had a scene where they actually fell from a really
- 28:50high height and then go, Gordon or whatever shot up music, how
- 28:53are we still alive? Just a no.
- 28:55Are we're very smaller terminal velocities really low, most of
- 28:59the science jargon in this movie makes sense, the translator for
- 29:03dogs. They're very 0, that becomes a
- 29:07microphone. That's my biggest pet.
- 29:09Peeve is night. I chose not to focus on.
- 29:12Yeah, I don't know how to turn the stereo, which he sells.
- 29:16What sound. Yeah, into an input sound and
- 29:19then also an output sound at the same time.
- 29:21Very Confusing. No.
- 29:23Um, which employ of course what I was saying is that whenever
- 29:26they would mention like the science of why something works,
- 29:30it just gets in bananas but yeah, you're doing about surface
- 29:33area of the bubbles. Yeah, things like that.
- 29:36That that makes sense. I surprising most of the Science
- 29:39tracks. Speaking of tracks, let's talk
- 29:43about the terrible Hot Wheels scene.
- 29:45They have a scene where they're in one of the kids rooms and
- 29:49they decide the only way they can get into the hallway.
- 29:52Ali is, if they go on a Hot Wheels car, go on the track, and
- 29:55then Shake themselves off of it or to get off early.
- 29:58It looks super cool. And then you watch the scene and
- 30:03it's green screamed. So unbelievably poorly, that's
- 30:07the whole movie for me. It ruins that entire scene,
- 30:10which seems so cool in concept. Okay, let's jump to closing,
- 30:17John and lead us off. How are you feeling about this?
- 30:20I think this was an Easter gift. Wow, I think you're right.
- 30:24I would have never thought of that it'll keep going.
- 30:28I might so, we should have watched visit Easter.
- 30:31Yeah. So I can't remember if I held
- 30:34onto this VHS or not, I've held on to a couple of Keepers over
- 30:39the years, but if we open up the VHS cover it'll say kill XOXO
- 30:44Happy Easter. Yeah, 1997 or whatever.
- 30:48So it was an Easter movie for me the movies, good.
- 30:54I enjoyed watching it. I actually thought the actors
- 30:57and actresses. Did a really good job.
- 30:59Yeah, this is held up surprisingly.
- 31:02Well yeah, I was sure we were going to bully this movie.
- 31:06Yeah, 7. But in dollars I it's not great
- 31:11but it's not bad by any stretch. Yeah.
- 31:15This is This is the worst of these movies might actually go
- 31:20back and watch Honey. I Shrunk the Kids and Honey I
- 31:24Blew Up the Kid the the Gordon. He's totally the dad from
- 31:29dinosaurs a Oh, really didn't you hear?
- 31:33Oh, oh, okay. Yeah.
- 31:35No, I can hear it now. That's right.
- 31:36Nice to watch the movie. Again, it's a great show.
- 31:41You re-watch, dinosaur. We're off on a tangent but you
- 31:43re-watch dinosaurs recently. I well like 10 years ago.
- 31:47Okay, pretty reasonable. His seems like that show is not
- 31:57for adult. Yeah, it's for yeah.
- 31:59And I didn't know that as a kid. Yeah.
- 32:01Ten years ago, I was an adult and I've lost fat like wow, I
- 32:05would not have understood half these things as a kid.
- 32:07Like I remember the episode about drugs.
- 32:10Yeah. I was like, oh, this is, this is
- 32:12a little heavy-handed as a kid. Yeah, but now going back and
- 32:16seeing that it's all about racism climate change.
- 32:19Yeah, yeah. Oh okay.
- 32:22Yeah, I guess the drugs were too heavy-handed.
- 32:26I was just the only one. I was old enough to understand.
- 32:29Thanks Triceratops table. To rethink my life.
- 32:35So would you wash this again? Yeah.
- 32:38Yeah I think I would and just realize we all have different
- 32:43ratings. Yeah exactly one through five.
- 32:45Would you watch again as John? When will I watch this again?
- 32:48His dad Kyle. What are you?
- 32:50He's won through cookie over. Yeah, I'd say he was a short
- 32:54break for me. I can't believe I'm gonna say
- 33:04this but I would watch this movie again.
- 33:08I don't plan to, but in most of my other ratings, I would only
- 33:16watch it if it landed in my lap. But now, this but it might as
- 33:20well. I probably won't because I don't
- 33:23have enough time in the day to watch mediocre movies.
- 33:27But this is not a movie that I would avoid, which certainly
- 33:31caught me. Off guard, chance on my 1
- 33:34through 5 scale is going to go in the same spot as Quest for
- 33:39Camelot, which is a for, I believe this movie isn't
- 33:41spectacular. This isn't spider-verse or one
- 33:44of those other cult classics that I really enjoy, but I think
- 33:48this is a movie with good qualities.
- 33:50That being some phenomenal actors some really good lines.
- 33:54So I would say that this is a good movie, I think, if you
- 33:58watch it, you will enjoy some parts of it and you will not
- 34:00enjoy some others. Kylie.
- 34:03Wait, I did I wanted a cookie out of Christmas in Wonderland,
- 34:07right? Yes gingerbread No, I would
- 34:14actually give it a sharp, right, though?
- 34:16It was good. I would eat a little bit
- 34:18shortbread, their small. That's the joke.
- 34:21Guys, put simply this might be one of
- 34:38the first movies we haven't bullied in any major way.
- 34:42Yeah, I think. The last one was Batman.
- 34:45I don't share the same love for this movie, that I share for
- 34:50Batman Batman Forever. I can't see, roasted, just let
- 34:53it sit. There secured nicely.
- 34:57This one certainly has flaws, and I think that they cut a lot
- 35:03of Corners, when it came to making the movie, but it's a
- 35:08likable cast, and the writers didn't give them nothing.
- 35:13Going to work with. There's a number of good lines
- 35:16for me. This movie is mediocre, but
- 35:19compared to the crap that we Wade through, on this podcast
- 35:23regularly, this is top tier. Join anything else you want to
- 35:29say, no? Okay, shortbread chance, this is
- 35:35dog. Have anything to say.
- 35:38Stay away from Empire State building's.
- 35:41So for all you out there, we've said it once before and we'll
- 35:46say it. Once again, look out for
- 35:48weirdos. Look out for dogs and Empire
- 35:51State Building but go for Elephants falling from Empire
- 35:54State building's, I'm sorry. Car, look out for daddy
- 35:57longlegs. If you find one, tickle its
- 36:01mandibles.
