Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Anthony Rizzo and David Ross here on Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Game 3 of the NLCS. The Dodgers lose to the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Brewers 6-2 on their home turf. The defending back-to-back champions
- 0:16Speaker 1: are on the brink of elimination, Rossi. Let's get right
- 0:19Speaker 1: to it. Jake Bowers. My God. 12 pitches off Yamamoto
- 0:25Speaker 1: for the walk to start a rally. And then 11
- 0:28Speaker 1: pitches off Blake Snow when their team loses the lead
- 0:31Speaker 1: They're winning 1-0. They lose the lead to 2-1. He
- 0:35Speaker 1: comes up 12 pitch at bat. Or I'm sorry, 11
- 0:38Speaker 1: pitch at bat. Two-run homer to put the team up.
- 0:42Speaker 1: My God.
- 0:43Speaker 2: That was insane. We got a good game tonight. The
- 0:46Speaker 2: back and forth. The Dodgers finally come through. I mean, Bowers.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What a homer. What a bat. Again, this guy found
- 0:54Speaker 2: off some nasty stuff. Blake Snell was locked in until
- 0:57Speaker 2: that at bat. You know, throw in. Obviously, he got
- 1:00Speaker 2: jumped first pitch of the game, but Snell was nasty.
- 1:04Speaker 2: That ball was a rocket. That ball was crushed.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I mean, Snell threw him everything. Yeah. Threw him everything.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And you know what? I played with Jake in 2023.
- 1:15Speaker 1: He was with the Yankees. And he'd been through a
- 1:18Speaker 1: lot in his career. He was up and down. He
- 1:21Speaker 1: was the Rays. He opened up about kind of his
- 1:24Speaker 1: mental health journey, about believing– everything you read on Twitter
- 1:30Speaker 1: and how that affected him. It just goes to show
- 1:33Speaker 1: for any young kid or parent out there that's doubting
- 1:37Speaker 1: their kid's ability, he gets with the Brewers and gets confidence.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You just see it's all up here. His ability is there.
- 1:48Speaker 1: He got with the Brewers and he got playing time
- 1:50Speaker 1: and he made the team out of 24. He almost quit, Rossi.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard that story on the broadcast. It was
- 1:56Speaker 2: a great um great story about his wife telling him
- 1:59Speaker 2: he had to go back and get major league insurance
- 2:02Speaker 2: because she was pregnant like what a what a story.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Like just never giving up you know what i mean
- 2:08Speaker 1: giving it that one more it reminds me of uh
- 2:12Speaker 1: what was it anthony banda last year the reliever for
- 2:15Speaker 1: the dodgers a couple years ago and he came out
- 2:16Speaker 1: of nowhere again and he was like yeah i was
- 2:19Speaker 1: done i was going to give it one more chance
- 2:21Speaker 1: and he came back and was a either back-to-back champion
- 2:23Speaker 1: or a World Series champion with the Dodgers.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So, I mean, just Jake Bauer's 26 pumps this year,
- 2:30Speaker 2: 26 tanks.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, his previous was 12.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Right, and finally getting an opportunity to play every day, too. Like,
- 2:40Speaker 2: he got sporadic at-bats last year, kind of a matchup. And,
- 2:44Speaker 2: you know, like, Blake Snell, obviously, was absolutely dealing and
- 2:49Speaker 2: has that type of a bat and absolutely leans on one.
- 2:51Speaker 2: What a big one. And that's like a dagger. That's
- 2:53Speaker 2: a dagger for the Dodgers. You're trying to get that
- 2:56Speaker 2: shutdown inning. Like Will Smith, catcher's rake. Got to say
- 3:00Speaker 2: that again. The raking all postseason. I'm glad Will got
- 3:03Speaker 2: on the board.
- 3:03Speaker 1: When that ball went off the wall, I said the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Brewers win. Obviously, it got out of the inning, but
- 3:13Speaker 1: as soon as that ball went off the wall, I
- 3:16Speaker 1: feel like the last two years, that ball's over for
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Dodgers, right? It's a game of inches. In the
- 3:21Speaker 1: last two years, it's gone their way most of the time. Obviously,
- 3:24Speaker 1: they've earned everything that they got. But when it went
- 3:26Speaker 1: off the wall, I was like, that's even deflating. Usually,
- 3:30Speaker 1: I feel like that's a grand slam. Grand slam is 4-1.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You know what I mean? The game's out of reach.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Nothing's out of reach with this Brewers team. But I
- 3:39Speaker 1: feel like that's just the way it's going right now
- 3:41Speaker 1: for the Dodgers where it's like Will Smith breaks out
- 3:44Speaker 1: of it. Huge hit. They only get two runs out
- 3:47Speaker 1: of it, right? D.L. Hall now coming in.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I was going to say, that was just like the story.
- 3:54Speaker 2: The pitchers are just coming in, shutting it down. Not
- 3:56Speaker 2: letting that third run score was huge. Keeping it 2-1,
- 4:00Speaker 2: you feel like they're right there. And obviously giving it
- 4:02Speaker 2: right back. And then, back to back. I mean, Garrett Mitchell.
- 4:08Speaker 1: First time in Blake Snell's career. Really? To lefties. Back-to-back
- 4:13Speaker 1: home runs to lefties. The fact that this is what
- 4:16Speaker 1: I love about what Pat Murphy's doing. He's playing his guys.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Andrew Vaughn could have been
- 4:23Speaker 1: playing first base for Jake Bowers there. He's playing his
- 4:26Speaker 1: guys that got him here. He's not going off the
- 4:28Speaker 1: left-right matchups for the most part. He's playing his guys,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and it's paying off big time. I mean, what a
- 4:35Speaker 1: turn of events a year later, right? They were down 3-0.
- 4:39Speaker 1: They got swept last year. Now they're up 3-0 on
- 4:41Speaker 1: the brink of going to the World Series for the
- 4:43Speaker 1: second time in franchise history.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah. What a, I mean, it's just such a cool
- 4:48Speaker 2: story and you know, they've earned it. Like, I don't
- 4:51Speaker 2: even know, like, it's nice to see good teams get
- 4:55Speaker 2: on the big stage and prove it. And, and they're
- 4:58Speaker 2: right on the cusp of going to the world series
- 5:00Speaker 2: about to sweep the two time defending world champs. Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Pretty special stuff they're doing. And I think everybody loves
- 5:07Speaker 2: the way that they're playing the game, but tonight they, they,
- 5:10Speaker 2: they win by the Homer. I know they added some
- 5:13Speaker 2: on late, but, basically slugging the homer. I like Pat
- 5:16Speaker 2: Murphy's quotes. Like, yeah, we may not have been at
- 5:18Speaker 2: the top of the league in home runs, but, like,
- 5:23Speaker 2: we did hit homers this year. You know, we do
- 5:25Speaker 2: have guys that hit home runs, and that showed up tonight.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So congrats to the Brewers in winning game three. I
- 5:31Speaker 2: thought that was one of the best games. Jackson Chirios
- 5:33Speaker 2: continues to absolutely rake the way he started that game.
- 5:39Speaker 2: If you're a Dodger fan or even that dugout, you
- 5:41Speaker 2: just feel like you can't breathe when you're down to,
- 5:44Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, boom, first pitch of
- 5:46Speaker 2: the game. It's like, man, it's just not going our way.
- 5:49Speaker 1: First pitch?
- 5:50Speaker 2: First freaking pitch. You know, like, his third of the playoffs, he's, what,
- 5:55Speaker 2: 22 years old?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Third leadoff, Homer.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Leadoff, yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about. Time for second in Major
- 6:01Speaker 1: League history. Only 22 years old. First is Kyle Schwarber.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Shout out to our boy Schwarbs, friend of the program.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Friend of the program.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Always got to throw him in there. Love that. I mean, Churrio, bro. Contreras.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Another hit, like just this team, man, like they are,
- 6:20Speaker 1: the numbers say they're going to the World Series, right?
- 6:22Speaker 1: You cannot count the Dodgers out. You just got to
- 6:24Speaker 1: win one game. Rossi, we were down 3-1. Obviously, the
- 6:27Speaker 1: numbers stated that we weren't going to come back. Still
- 6:30Speaker 1: have a long way to go to punch their ticket
- 6:32Speaker 1: to the World Series, right? Being in L.A., they have
- 6:35Speaker 1: Glass now tomorrow. Then they have Scooble tomorrow. If you're
- 6:39Speaker 1: the Dodgers, you can really rally around this. But do
- 6:41Speaker 1: they have enough mental fortitude to rally around this? This
- 6:46Speaker 1: being three years in a row, they're going for it.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're grinding. It was good. Otani's at-bats looked
- 6:53Speaker 2: a little better. He got a knock there late.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Walk, hit by pitch.
- 6:58Speaker 2: So you couldn't tell too much from all that. Will Smith. Yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 2: Will Smith. Maybe some guys, they just got a hit
- 7:05Speaker 2: with some, they got that busted open with Will Smith,
- 7:09Speaker 2: finding some hidden with runners in scoring position, but they
- 7:12Speaker 2: just got to build on that a little bit offensively
- 7:14Speaker 2: and get a good pitching performance coming out. Speaking of
- 7:17Speaker 2: good pitcher performances, Robert Gasser did phenomenal, man.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Bobby Gas, they call him?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Bobby Diesel? Bobby Diesel. I like Diesel better. I like that. No,
- 7:30Speaker 2: but he was absolutely.
- 7:31Speaker 1: You're the manager, Rossi. Why are you pulling him after
- 7:34Speaker 1: 72 pitches? I get I get, look, if you blow
- 7:40Speaker 1: everything to go up 3-0, right? But it's, he's dealing. Like,
- 7:45Speaker 1: that's the eye test in the game, right? But then
- 7:47Speaker 1: on the other side, Snell was dealing, and Dave Roberts
- 7:50Speaker 1: didn't pull him. You know what I mean?
- 7:52Speaker 2: So it's like, it's so easy for us to... It's
- 7:54Speaker 2: so easy. Like, that's what's funny. It's like, when you
- 7:56Speaker 2: hear people, it's like, nobody knows. It's so, like Joe
- 7:59Speaker 2: used to say, it's so outcome biased, right? Like, whatever
- 8:01Speaker 2: the outcome is, is how we judge people.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I thought.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Bobby Diesel, you know, he had let, I think,
- 8:08Speaker 2: three of the five innings, he let the leadoff guy
- 8:10Speaker 2: get on, either base hit, I think he walked one there,
- 8:13Speaker 2: and I think I texted our things, like, he's been
- 8:17Speaker 2: more efficient, he's been better out of the stretch, it
- 8:18Speaker 2: looks like his stuff's synced a little bit more, who
- 8:20Speaker 2: knows what he was, what was synced up out of
- 8:22Speaker 2: the windup or out of the stretch, but thought he
- 8:24Speaker 2: was throwing well once guys got on base, and he
- 8:27Speaker 2: had to kind of simplify some things, and got some
- 8:30Speaker 2: lazy fly outs and all that, but I don't know.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I didn't hate it at the time with the bullpen
- 8:34Speaker 2: that the Brewers have. McGill didn't even pitch the last
- 8:38Speaker 2: game they played two days ago. You knew he was fresh.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I feel like Ashby's got a rubber arm. He's just
- 8:44Speaker 2: got nasty stuff. I just love that. Uribe didn't have
- 8:46Speaker 2: a good day. That's the bottom line. He didn't have
- 8:48Speaker 2: a good night. That's kind of the bullpen. Sometimes one
- 8:53Speaker 2: guy may have an off night, but his teammates picked
- 8:56Speaker 2: him up and the offense picked him up. I think
- 9:00Speaker 2: Good players make good managers. They make you look good
- 9:03Speaker 2: when there's any of those decisions. That's for sure.
- 9:05Speaker 1: You know what I like? It's this common message from
- 9:08Speaker 1: the Brewers is D.L. Hall said it in his post-game interview.
- 9:13Speaker 1: It's easy to go out there and pitch knowing that
- 9:17Speaker 1: the rest of the guys in the bullpen are also
- 9:19Speaker 1: nasty and they can just come in and clean up
- 9:21Speaker 1: the mess. Right? Like that freedom. And then you had
- 9:24Speaker 1: Bowers on the post-game saying, you know, Uribe.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Got into a jam, we need to bail him out.
- 9:32Speaker 1: And he's like, throughout the postseason, that's been our theme,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and it's been more intensified as we've gone on. And
- 9:38Speaker 1: that's everything I always say when I was playing into
- 9:41Speaker 1: playoff teams. You think you're close throughout the regular season
- 9:45Speaker 1: through 162. Every series, as you know, Rossi, you get
- 9:48Speaker 1: closer and closer. The families get closer and closer. Everyone
- 9:53Speaker 1: gets closer. And these guys are coming together more than
- 9:56Speaker 1: they ever have. And it shows. There are one... one
- 10:00Speaker 1: game away from being in the World Series.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and everybody on the, like you're talking about family,
- 10:06Speaker 2: everybody's riding the same emotions and the same kind of
- 10:08Speaker 2: journey and living and dying with everybody's success and failures.
- 10:12Speaker 2: So the wives and all the staff that works with
- 10:16Speaker 2: them and their families.
- 10:16Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Cause it's like, you know, and it's a bit, not
- 10:19Speaker 2: just the winning and all that, but you also, it's like,
- 10:21Speaker 2: like the further you go, it changes people's lives. When
- 10:24Speaker 2: you're talking about some of the, the playoff bonuses that
- 10:26Speaker 2: you get as a player and to the staff and like,
- 10:29Speaker 2: and really change people's lives. I want to go back
- 10:32Speaker 2: to what you said about, you know, kind of the
- 10:34Speaker 2: mentality of that bullpen. I had a, we had a
- 10:37Speaker 2: really good bullpen Atlanta one year, like Kimbrel, Eric O'Flaherty,
- 10:42Speaker 2: Peter Moreland, Johnny Venters. Like we had some dudes down
- 10:45Speaker 2: there and, it was O'Flaherty had an amazing year I
- 10:52Speaker 2: think he had like a 1-2 on the year as
- 10:54Speaker 2: a lefty I repent and he said his mentality is
- 10:57Speaker 2: like it doesn't matter like if I if I suck
- 11:00Speaker 2: the guys behind me will come in and get everybody
- 11:02Speaker 2: out you know and it's like free freeze those guys
- 11:05Speaker 2: up to to kind of go out and just attack
- 11:07Speaker 2: the zone and with their best shit you know that's
- 11:09Speaker 2: that's kind of freeing and off also when you have
- 11:11Speaker 2: the offense it just continues to put up runs and
- 11:14Speaker 2: doesn't give away one pitch and one at bat like
- 11:16Speaker 2: you know Good things are going to work out if
- 11:18Speaker 2: you're on the bump.
- 11:19Speaker 1: No doubt. Bro, I was watching this game, and I'm
- 11:21Speaker 1: not lying. I was getting PTSD watching this Milwaukee Brewers team. They,
- 11:27Speaker 1: for years, right, they are just the most... They were
- 11:32Speaker 1: so positioned defensively every time. I swear I would play
- 11:38Speaker 1: the Brewers, and I'd fucking hit missiles off them. And
- 11:42Speaker 1: everywhere I hit them, they were standing. And I was like,
- 11:44Speaker 1: these motherfuckers, man. Like, they're every... And today they were everywhere.
- 11:49Speaker 1: They were making plays. That play in the first inning
- 11:52Speaker 1: to rob Freddie of potentially extra base hits. Like, they're
- 11:56Speaker 1: just so well positioned. And they've been that way for years.
- 12:01Speaker 1: So I was watching this game, and I was just like, ah, no,
- 12:04Speaker 1: it's coming back, the feelings.
- 12:06Speaker 2: You're having flashbacks.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 2: That's great. That's great. Do you think the Dodgers can
- 12:12Speaker 2: overcome this deficit? What do the Dodgers got to do?
- 12:19Speaker 1: They got to win tomorrow, right? It's glass now, right?
- 12:21Speaker 1: It's glass now saying, I'm on my watch, right? They
- 12:24Speaker 1: come out, jump, and get a lead. Obviously, that's the
- 12:28Speaker 1: most important thing. And just throttle. Shohei looked good today.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Getting on base, getting a hit, getting hit by a
- 12:35Speaker 1: pitch on base three times. Will Smith broke out of
- 12:38Speaker 1: it with that big hit. So those are two guys
- 12:40Speaker 1: that can carry a team for two weeks, right?
- 12:42Speaker 2: Right. Kyle Tucker continues to look good. He moved up
- 12:45Speaker 2: in the order.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Their pitching is good enough to literally shut down the
- 12:52Speaker 1: Brewers for four games in a row. But it starts tomorrow.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Do I think they can overcome it? Listen, they're the
- 13:00Speaker 1: back-to-back defending champions. They've earned every right to come back.
- 13:09Speaker 1: What they're looking at is going to be their If
- 13:13Speaker 1: they do this, like, it would be incredible. And then
- 13:17Speaker 1: they go on to win the World Series, right? But
- 13:19Speaker 1: the mental fortitude right now that it's going to take
- 13:22Speaker 1: for these guys to do this is something that I
- 13:26Speaker 1: don't think anyone's ever seen before, right? It's been done once.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Red Sox, what, back in 2004 when they won the
- 13:32Speaker 1: World Series. Like, they weren't coming off back-to-back World Series champions.
- 13:37Speaker 1: They're coming off an 86-year drought, right? Right, right, right.
- 13:40Speaker 1: And losing to the Red Sox the year before. or
- 13:43Speaker 1: losing to the Yankees the year before. So, I mean, Rossi,
- 13:48Speaker 1: I want to hear your prediction. And if you're going
- 13:50Speaker 1: to go with the Dodgers and go for the money,
- 13:52Speaker 1: so be it. But their backs are against the wall.
- 13:57Speaker 2: It is. I love how you helped me segue to
- 14:01Speaker 2: my polymarket pick. Dodgers are 58% to the yes, 100%
- 14:04Speaker 2: get you 166%. So the Dodgers are favored, and somehow
- 14:10Speaker 2: they're like, the Dodgers can't lose. But yeah, they keep
- 14:13Speaker 2: getting their butts kicked. I mean, again, another beatdown. And
- 14:16Speaker 2: the Brewers are 42% to the yes. 100 gets you
- 14:19Speaker 2: to 29. I'm going Brewers for this week. I know
- 14:23Speaker 2: they maybe don't want this many off days. Like, that
- 14:25Speaker 2: was the whole thing that popped in my head as
- 14:27Speaker 2: soon as that game ends. But yeah, the Brewers just
- 14:30Speaker 2: feel like every bit of momentum, they're so focused and
- 14:34Speaker 2: locked in every at-bat, and their pitching keeps being great.
- 14:36Speaker 2: So yeah. Um, the starters keep, you know, when you,
- 14:39Speaker 2: when you're on a staff like they have, and these
- 14:41Speaker 2: guys are get that ball rolling and Murph talked about
- 14:43Speaker 2: it in games, like you don't want to let your
- 14:45Speaker 2: teammates down. And I don't think they're going to, I
- 14:47Speaker 2: think they've got just that kind of grit. That's going to,
- 14:49Speaker 2: I'm going to push them over and sweep the Dodgers.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm going to brewers. That's crazy. I can't believe I'm
- 14:53Speaker 2: saying that.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 1: But you know what?
- 14:56Speaker 2: They earned it, man.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Like they're earning it. They're earning it.
- 14:58Speaker 2: They've done nothing yet.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It ain't done yet. No, no, but your, your world
- 15:03Speaker 1: series prediction is, one of them looks pretty good rossi
- 15:08Speaker 1: i would.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Be sick first podcast prediction and i get i get
- 15:12Speaker 2: half of it right right.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Cool yeah yeah yeah that'd be very cool so well
- 15:17Speaker 1: that's going to be interesting tomorrow to see how the
- 15:19Speaker 1: dodgers come out and i mean look they're champions they're
- 15:22Speaker 1: not going to come out flat right they're going to
- 15:25Speaker 1: come out with intensity i think they score early and
- 15:28Speaker 1: but I also think the Brewers just keep the foot
- 15:30Speaker 1: on the gas. Like Pat Murphy said, like step on
- 15:32Speaker 1: their throats.
- 15:33Speaker 2: You know what I thought was a big at bat
- 15:34Speaker 2: that I thought was about to break it open for
- 15:36Speaker 2: the Dodgers. I thought when Muncie came in, pinch hit
- 15:40Speaker 2: first and second, like that was such a big at bat.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I thought, I just felt like Muncie, he controls the
- 15:45Speaker 2: strike zone. Your rebate was throwing the ball all over
- 15:47Speaker 2: the place and he's got crazy pop and is all
- 15:51Speaker 2: over heaters down in the zone, you know? And, um,
- 15:55Speaker 2: You know, some nasty sliders Uribe threw him, finally got
- 15:59Speaker 2: locked in on his slider. I think that's why Murphy
- 16:01Speaker 2: probably kept him in a little bit longer than I
- 16:04Speaker 2: think as a fan you would look at. It's like
- 16:06Speaker 2: he hadn't had it, and then he locks it in
- 16:08Speaker 2: off Muncie. So you give him Shohei, and Shohei walks,
- 16:11Speaker 2: and now you're kind of in a tough spot. Will
- 16:16Speaker 2: Smith hadn't got any hits, all that stuff.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Catchers.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I thought it was a key moment there. Yeah, catchers
- 16:23Speaker 2: coming through. I thought it was a key moment there.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I thought Muncie, that at bat, that could have been
- 16:29Speaker 2: definitely a game-changing moment. I thought he might bridge one,
- 16:32Speaker 2: have a Muncie moment. There's something about the warm summer
- 16:35Speaker 2: air and a cold corona with Lyme that makes the
- 16:38Speaker 2: roar of the crowd sound a lot like the roar
- 16:40Speaker 2: of the waves.
- 16:41Speaker 1: That's because this is our playa, and the best seats
- 16:43Speaker 1: are always wherever you're sitting.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Whether it's a weeknight game under the lights or a
- 16:47Speaker 2: Sunday afternoon in the sun, you know baseball isn't about
- 16:50Speaker 2: rushing around. It's about settling in, letting the game come
- 16:53Speaker 2: to you. And nothing pairs better than an ice-cold Corona. Nothing.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So find your seat, your Corona, and your line. Because
- 17:03Speaker 1: real fans know the only thing better than nine innings

- 17:25Speaker 2: What's up, guys? I need to tell you about this
- 17:27Speaker 2: new prediction market called Polymarket. It's the best new way
- 17:30Speaker 2: to trade in sports. In the past, if you wanted
- 17:33Speaker 2: action on the game, you put some money in, and
- 17:35Speaker 2: if your team was doing well and you wanted to
- 17:37Speaker 2: cash out, they'd lock the trade and take a huge fee.
- 17:41Speaker 2: But Polymarket is a prediction market. It's a stock exchange
- 17:44Speaker 2: for sports, buying in and selling out on your terms.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I've tried them all, and Polymarket is simply the best
- 17:49Speaker 2: prediction market. better than DraftKings, FanDuel, Kalshi, you name it.
- 17:55Speaker 2: They're so confident you'll never go back to the other guys.
- 17:57Speaker 2: They're giving you a free $ 25 on your first trade
- 18:00Speaker 2: when you deposit just $ 10. And now they've launched a
- 18:02Speaker 2: new feature, Squads, a group chat where you can see
- 18:05Speaker 2: what everyone is trading. So download the Polymarket app today
- 18:09Speaker 2: and use the code ROSSRIZZO when you sign up. That's
- 18:12Speaker 2: code ROSSRIZZO and get $ 25 free after you deposit just $ 10.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Let's get to our Timboss Ballback questions. of the day
- 18:21Speaker 1: where me and Rossi take all of the fan questions,
- 18:23Speaker 1: whatever you guys want to hear about, maybe something you
- 18:25Speaker 1: don't know about. Email us, rossinrizzo at gmail.com. Leave some
- 18:29Speaker 1: comments on our YouTube page or our socials. We love
- 18:33Speaker 1: this part of our show. First email is from Eddie Horath.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I was wondering what your feelings are about the proposed
- 18:40Speaker 1: shortened schedule for the regular season next year. Would the
- 18:43Speaker 1: weekly day off be helpful for players that play most
- 18:46Speaker 1: of the season? Also, I'd like to hear your opinion
- 18:48Speaker 1: of the proposed playoff idea. or the higher seeds pick
- 18:51Speaker 1: their opponents, I think that would really change how the
- 18:54Speaker 1: postseason runs.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Well, I'll definitely touch on the shorter schedule. What is it, 154?
- 19:01Speaker 1: I believe that's what they proposed.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I love it. To be honest, I think health in
- 19:11Speaker 2: our game is that nobody knows what to do with
- 19:15Speaker 2: pitchers that continue to get injured and I think rest
- 19:19Speaker 2: can help that just a little bit, you know, kind
- 19:21Speaker 2: of break in there, spread guys out a little bit longer.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Maybe they start to just fall on a six-day start
- 19:26Speaker 2: instead of the fifth day from a pitching standpoint. The
- 19:29Speaker 2: hell that an everyday starter goes through, as you know
- 19:32Speaker 2: better than I do, like that's a real grind. An
- 19:34Speaker 2: off day a week would be amazing. I remember, I
- 19:38Speaker 2: know they do it in the minor leagues now, but
- 19:39Speaker 2: I remember we had a spring training, the first WBC,
- 19:43Speaker 2: and I was in Atlanta. And Bobby Cox, it was
- 19:45Speaker 2: extended by like two weeks. It was spring. So you
- 19:48Speaker 2: got there super early so those guys could train and
- 19:53Speaker 2: go off. But spring training was extended for everybody else.
- 19:56Speaker 2: So he gave us every Monday completely off. Like, don't
- 19:59Speaker 2: come in. Nobody's coming in every Monday. And, bro, that
- 20:02Speaker 2: was my favorite spring training of all time because you
- 20:04Speaker 2: just had– you felt like you had a little bit
- 20:06Speaker 2: of life. Okay.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Maybe not of all time.
- 20:09Speaker 2: As far as doing stuff outside, Disney's right there. We golfed,
- 20:13Speaker 2: all that stuff with the boys. We had some good
- 20:17Speaker 2: spring trainings. Anyways, I think it's a great idea. I
- 20:21Speaker 2: think every player would be on board with that. If
- 20:24Speaker 2: they're not going to cut pay or how they're going
- 20:26Speaker 2: to balance all that out.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's all logistics-wise. Bro, if they do that right
- 20:32Speaker 1: and they go every Monday off or whatnot... I think
- 20:36Speaker 1: that there needs to be a rule about starters then
- 20:40Speaker 1: because starters need to go deeper. If they're going to
- 20:43Speaker 1: be on a six man rotation where, you know, they
- 20:45Speaker 1: flirted out the idea of losing your DH. If your
- 20:48Speaker 1: starter comes out before the fifth, things like that to
- 20:51Speaker 1: where maybe you can't take as many bullpen arms. So
- 20:54Speaker 1: your starters, you have to incentivize your starters to go
- 20:57Speaker 1: deeper in the game. If you're going to, if you're
- 20:59Speaker 1: going to have the off days like that. And then
- 21:02Speaker 1: for the playoffs, I, I just look when you're in game,
- 21:09Speaker 1: like when you're competing, you don't care who you're playing.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Like as a player, like it's easy for me to say, Oh,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I think the Cubs should play the Braves in the
- 21:16Speaker 1: first round.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Like, cause I'm on the other end now, but as
- 21:19Speaker 1: a player, it's whoever's in front of us, we need
- 21:21Speaker 1: to beat them. So to pick our poison, we're the
- 21:25Speaker 1: best team. Now we're going to pick our poison. Which
- 21:27Speaker 1: one do we want to play? And then you're saying,
- 21:28Speaker 1: Oh no, we want to play them. Like, I don't
- 21:31Speaker 1: like that. Just reseed it. Whoever's the best team throughout
- 21:33Speaker 1: the year, just reseed it every round. Until you get
- 21:36Speaker 1: to the World Series.
- 21:37Speaker 2: You know what it feels like? It feels like that's
- 21:39Speaker 2: going to be one of those decisions that are made
- 21:42Speaker 2: outside of the dugout and the clubhouse. You know what
- 21:46Speaker 2: I mean? There's just too many people. We'll be getting
- 21:48Speaker 2: too many cooks in the kitchen when you talk about
- 21:50Speaker 2: making that decision. Why aggravate a team that you know
- 21:54Speaker 2: you've got to go in and beat no matter what?
- 21:55Speaker 2: You're just going to give them more fuel to the
- 21:57Speaker 2: fire and all that. I'm with you.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I'm with you on that. Don't love it. Don't love it.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Rob Manfred has done... Everything he's done about all the
- 22:06Speaker 1: rule changes has been really good. So these are the
- 22:10Speaker 1: first talks of it. I'm sure whatever they settle on,
- 22:13Speaker 1: it's going to be really good because, I mean, look,
- 22:16Speaker 1: he's nailed every single rule change in my opinion. I
- 22:19Speaker 1: love every single one of them. So it'll be interesting
- 22:22Speaker 1: to see how that plays out.
- 22:24Speaker 2: All right. Email from Justin Lackney. Who was the one
- 22:28Speaker 2: guy you played with that was far more talented than
- 22:31Speaker 2: their career numbers showed? Ooh, can I, can I say myself? Um,
- 22:41Speaker 2: you know what I got? I got, I got a
- 22:42Speaker 2: guy that was well-respected while that I played with, but like,
- 22:45Speaker 2: I would say his career numbers didn't come off like
- 22:51Speaker 2: who he was when I first started playing against him.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I played with Adam Dunn.
- 22:56Speaker 1: All right.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And obviously he's almost has 400.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Home runs, bro.
- 23:00Speaker 2: A great slugger. But I, I came up with this guy.
- 23:02Speaker 2: First of all, He was a quarterback at Texas and
- 23:05Speaker 2: then went off to the minor leagues with the Reds.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I played against him in the minor leagues. He played
- 23:08Speaker 2: center field. The dude floated.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Floated. Could run.
- 23:13Speaker 2: He was stealing bait. He hit our second baseman, Mike Gonzalez,
- 23:17Speaker 2: in a double play. And he, you know, that old
- 23:21Speaker 2: Albert Bell thing. He hit him in the minor leagues
- 23:24Speaker 2: and sent him flying like over second base. Bro, it
- 23:29Speaker 2: was not pretty.
- 23:31Speaker 1: We're trying to get the young crowd here, Rossi, and
- 23:33Speaker 1: you're talking about Albert Bell, okay? Trying to get the
- 23:38Speaker 1: kids on this program.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Guys have seen the video. Kids, that's all they watch
- 23:41Speaker 2: is YouTube. They've got the video. Anyways, I just like,
- 23:44Speaker 2: Adam Dunn was one of the best players I've played with,
- 23:47Speaker 2: and he could carry your whole team for two months
- 23:50Speaker 2: when he was hot. It didn't matter, and he was
- 23:52Speaker 2: always getting on base. He's just like, I don't know
- 23:55Speaker 2: what his career numbers are. I don't know people's career numbers,
- 23:57Speaker 2: but I just feel like for how great he was,
- 24:01Speaker 2: he doesn't get enough love, in my opinion.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Maybe that's how I'm looking at it.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Maybe that's how I'm looking at it. I'm trying to.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Think right now. 462 career home runs.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay. I'm sorry. He almost has 500 home runs, right? Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Made tons of money. Just struck out a lot. But
- 24:21Speaker 1: I hear what you're saying. You know who? But he
- 24:23Speaker 1: ended up having a really long career. Cameron Mabin. freak
- 24:29Speaker 1: athlete power speed insane defensively he was just really talented
- 24:37Speaker 1: and never really fully fully fully put it together for
- 24:41Speaker 1: an extended period of time but ended up playing for
- 24:44Speaker 1: I believe 10 plus years so he didn't win the
- 24:48Speaker 1: rookie of the year but he had a great ended
- 24:50Speaker 1: up having a great career but 15 years in the
- 24:52Speaker 1: show 15 years in the show And I just feel
- 24:56Speaker 1: like his talent was, like, I would see him hit BP.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'm like, God damn, bro. Like, I wish I could
- 25:03Speaker 1: have that type of power.
- 25:04Speaker 2: He was a good teammate, too.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Great teammate. Great teammate. Great dude. Loved being around. I
- 25:10Speaker 1: played with him in San Diego, and I played with
- 25:13Speaker 1: him in Chicago. Loved being around him. Good question, Justin.
- 25:17Speaker 1: That's a great question. I love it.
- 25:19Speaker 2: That's one we need to circle back to. It takes some, like,
- 25:21Speaker 2: studying on our end. Like, we got to look up
- 25:23Speaker 2: some numbers, but.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yeah. This next one is an email from Jeff Smith. Hi, guys.
- 25:31Speaker 1: With a new stadium approved for the Rays in Tampa,
- 25:33Speaker 1: do you think this is a wise move instead of
- 25:35Speaker 1: moving the team to Orlando? Since the Yankees series, their
- 25:38Speaker 1: attendance figures keep dropping during the ALCS. Does this city
- 25:43Speaker 1: actually deserve this team?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Okay. Jeff coming in hot.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Very hot, Jeff. Two Florida natives here. So, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I think that the problem with the trop, right, even
- 26:01Speaker 1: if the trop, they blow it up, which they need
- 26:04Speaker 1: to do, and build a brand-new state-of-the-art stadium right there,
- 26:09Speaker 1: you're still going to struggle with attendance. It's not easy
- 26:12Speaker 1: to get there, right? Like, it's not easy for all
- 26:16Speaker 1: the teams to get there. It's like putting the Marlins, right?
- 26:19Speaker 1: They move the Marlins down to Miami. That attendance is
- 26:22Speaker 1: going to struggle forever because people from Broward County and
- 26:25Speaker 1: Palm Beach County now can't get down there for a game.
- 26:29Speaker 1: To where when it was in Fort Lauderdale at Joe Robbie,
- 26:32Speaker 1: as you played in at Rossi, people from Miami can come,
- 26:35Speaker 1: people from Palm Beach can come, people from Fort Lauderdale go.
- 26:39Speaker 1: So being in St. Petersburg, it's just logistically too hard
- 26:43Speaker 1: on a nightly basis to, I think, bring your family
- 26:45Speaker 1: out to the ballpark. To where if it's in Tampa,
- 26:47Speaker 1: more centrally located, you can pull people from Clearwater, you
- 26:50Speaker 1: pull people from Dunedin, You would get people from St. Pete,
- 26:53Speaker 1: all the Tampa people. Like, look at the Lightning. The
- 26:56Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Lightning are number two in attendance. That place
- 26:59Speaker 1: is rocking in downtown Tampa. Downtown Tampa is absolutely booming.
- 27:02Speaker 1: So I think the team needs to stay in the–
- 27:07Speaker 1: not in St. Pete, but relocate to Tampa, not Orlando.
- 27:10Speaker 1: That's my opinion.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. All I've heard of is the
- 27:14Speaker 2: traffic getting in and out of there, going over the bridge,
- 27:16Speaker 2: how hard it is to get to a game. Obviously
- 27:19Speaker 2: the trop. Like, it wasn't even built for baseball, you know? So, like,
- 27:23Speaker 2: they're going to build a baseball stadium in a more
- 27:26Speaker 2: fan-friendly area, and that's all you're going to need. It's
- 27:29Speaker 2: a great product. They're a great team.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Great organization.
- 27:32Speaker 2: They got a great manager. Yeah. Like, Kevin Cash is
- 27:36Speaker 2: one of the best managers in all of baseball. And,
- 27:38Speaker 2: you know, they pull for spring training and all that
- 27:43Speaker 2: stuff for the Yankees. So, there's baseball, tons of baseball
- 27:45Speaker 2: fans in general down there. So, I agree with you, Rizzo.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I mean, look, Orlando's an hour away. Like, what's the,
- 27:54Speaker 2: I mean, you know what I mean? Even more.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Even more.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Look, Florida's a baseball factory. You know what I mean?
- 28:00Speaker 1: Having a team in Tampa, that would be a premier,
- 28:04Speaker 1: like these Florida teams are premier destinations for players. You
- 28:09Speaker 1: don't pay for state tax. If you build a team
- 28:13Speaker 1: and you start spending money, guys want to come and
- 28:15Speaker 1: play in Florida, right? Yeah, yeah. It's Florida. Your spring
- 28:19Speaker 1: training's there. It's an all-in-one-stop shop. So I hope that
- 28:23Speaker 1: they get a deal done in Tampa and they keep
- 28:26Speaker 1: it in the Tampa Bay area. But I think just St.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Pete just doesn't work geographically for fans to consistently sell
- 28:34Speaker 1: out there.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Jeff, good question. Coming in hot on your hometown team.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I bet Jeff lives in Orlando. That's probably why he
- 28:44Speaker 2: just wants to be closer. He's a dreamer.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Isn't that what they're calling the team, the Orlando Dreamers?
- 28:50Speaker 2: Is that what it is?
- 28:52Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. But that's a wrap
- 28:55Speaker 1: on this episode, Rossi. Thank you, everyone, for watching and listening. Reminder,
- 29:00Speaker 1: please comment on YouTube, on our socials. We love the interactions.
- 29:05Speaker 1: RossandRizzo at gmail.com. We love bringing you action. We are
- 29:09Speaker 1: here with you through the end. Brewers are one game away.
- 29:14Speaker 1: From punching their ticket to the World Series for the
- 29:17Speaker 1: second time in franchise history. And tomorrow, Guardians raise back
- 29:21Speaker 1: at it.
- 29:21Speaker 2: One o'clock. One o'clock. Tune in early.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Huge game three. Huge.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Huge.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Game three.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Huge. Huge.
- 29:30Speaker 1: We'll see you guys tomorrow. That's it for us. Rizzo.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Ross.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Peace.
