Speaker 1: My philosophy was always to hire people who might one
• 0:03
Speaker 1: day take my job, and he tried to do exactly that.
• 0:07
Speaker 2: Well, he was naked during the interview, so we decided
• 0:09
Speaker 2: to pass naked and I fired him on the spot.
• 0:14
Speaker 1: This is the Bad Hire, the show with the best
• 0:16
Speaker 1: stories about the worst employees.
• 0:19
  Speaker 3: We fired him.
• 0:20
Speaker 2: Of course, people are crazy.
• 0:21
Speaker 4: It's like an hr nightmare.
• 0:23
Speaker 2: Right, one Bad Hire stole all of it crazy stuff.
• 0:27
Speaker 2: She got what she deserved.
• 0:29
Speaker 1: Oh, I'm your host, Ken Monroe, and every week we
• 0:33
Speaker 1: dive into real life stories from the wild world of
• 0:37
Speaker 1: work and what can happen when the wrong person gets
• 0:40
Speaker 1: the job. These stories aren't just crazy when they are
• 0:44
Speaker 1: cautionary tales about lessons learned the hard way. Let's get started,
• 0:50
Speaker 1: all right, Hey everyone, welcome back to The Bad Hire,
• 0:53
Speaker 1: the show where we take the best stories and the
• 0:57
Speaker 1: most unfortunate employees their interviews and they collide if we
• 1:03
Speaker 1: tell great stories about it.
• 1:04
Speaker 2: So I feel like we have a slightly different tagline
• 1:07
  Speaker 2: every time.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, it is like Nathan's like, we need the tagline.
• 1:12
Speaker 2: And I say it different every time. He's like, but
• 1:14
Speaker 2: it's always kind of fun to see, Like, what's the
• 1:16
Speaker 2: tagle like? Going to be this time to the show
• 1:20
Speaker 2: with the best stories and the worst employees. That's and
• 1:23
Speaker 2: I hate saying the worst employees. I just think I negative.
• 1:27
Speaker 1: I think it's so I changed it to unfortunately I know, yeah,
• 1:31
Speaker 1: but unfortunate. Today I was like slow and nizer, it's
• 1:34
Speaker 1: unfortunate and yeah, it's like who knows what the experience.
• 1:37
Speaker 2: That's that's in our TikTok buyo right now. We can
• 1:39
Speaker 2: change it to unfortunate though, I guess that makes sense,
• 1:42
Speaker 2: or we can be the unfortunate higher change it to
• 1:46
Speaker 2: the unfortunate hire. Thinking about all this stuff, I'll have
• 1:51
Speaker 2: to change everything I do. Like the title of the show.
• 1:58
Speaker 1: I think it looks good on stuff, like when you
• 2:01
Speaker 1: put a hat on that says the bad Hire. Well,
• 2:03
Speaker 1: it's also it's one of those things where I think
• 2:04
Speaker 1: worn would and someone would be like, bro, what is that.
• 2:07
  Speaker 2: It's like I was a bad hire. It's one of
• 2:10
Speaker 2: those things where we were all kind of surprised that
• 2:12
Speaker 2: the bad hire dot com was available, like, oh, we've
• 2:14
Speaker 2: got the bad higher dot com.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: When I type that in as well, I was available
• 2:17
  Speaker 1: by balls.
• 2:18
Speaker 2: Like eight second. Yeah, it's like the best ten bucks
• 2:21
Speaker 2: you've ever met. It was.
• 2:24
Speaker 1: It works worst worst case scenarios. Sooner you know, uh,
• 2:29
Speaker 1: this doesn't work out this show, you know, we stop.
• 2:31
Speaker 1: I'll just take uh uh you know, I'll just take
• 2:35
Speaker 1: like people's pictures that are like really terrible employees and
• 2:38
  Speaker 1: just here's.
• 2:38
Speaker 2: A bad hire. Yeah that actually be mean. Yeah, Oh
• 2:43
Speaker 2: my god, that's funny.
• 2:45
Speaker 1: Well, Emma, Nathan, Emma, nice to have you back. I
• 2:47
Speaker 1: see uh comment when you came in. You got your
• 2:49
  Speaker 1: game face on.
• 2:51
Speaker 5: I guess it's the same face I always got on,
• 2:55
  Speaker 5: ready to go.
• 2:56
  Speaker 2: Oh my god.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: All right, so you guys, uh, yeah to the drill.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: We're looking for stories and we'd love to hear yours.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: So you know, whether it's a funny story, a bad
• 3:06
Speaker 1: hire story, a bad interview story. You know, the range
• 3:12
Speaker 1: of stories we've heard is crazy. But what we would
• 3:14
Speaker 1: just want to hear your stories that you have when
• 3:16
Speaker 1: it comes to hiring people employing people, you know, not
• 3:20
Speaker 1: to make fun of it, but to just have fun
• 3:22
Speaker 1: a little about it. And you know, we want to
• 3:26
Speaker 1: run with your stories and tell them. And so if
• 3:28
Speaker 1: you'll submit them are stories, you can either do a
• 3:31
Speaker 1: segment you'll see some segments today, or see at least
• 3:33
Speaker 1: one segment today. You could sign up for that and
• 3:36
Speaker 1: we'll interview you with whatever producers let you tell your
• 3:39
Speaker 1: story that way, or you can submit your story and
• 3:42
Speaker 1: writing and we'll read it and if you have the
• 3:45
Speaker 1: best story for the year, you have a chance to
• 3:48
Speaker 1: win ten thousand dollars and we'll give away ten thousand
• 3:51
Speaker 1: dollars at the at the year year anniversary of the show.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: And you know, fear out another promotion or something to
• 3:59
Speaker 1: do the nation here, but it's it's doing good. I've
• 4:01
Speaker 1: enjoyed the uh how to enjoyed the stories so far?
• 4:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been fun. We've had some sent in that
• 4:08
Speaker 2: we've been recording more of these segments and all those
• 4:10
Speaker 2: all get entered to win the win the prize. And
• 4:13
Speaker 2: so if you have a story you want to be
• 4:16
Speaker 2: shown like we're doing today, where like we actually show
• 4:18
Speaker 2: a clip of you you telling your story, you can
• 4:20
Speaker 2: enter that way, or if you don't want to do that,
• 4:22
Speaker 2: you can just type it in. We'll just read it
• 4:24
Speaker 2: out loud. And there's lots of different ways to wins money.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: But you can find us at the badhire dot com.
• 4:29
Speaker 2: That hard to figure out, Yeah, the bad hire dot com.
• 4:32
Speaker 1: If you go there you can find a form, you
• 4:35
Speaker 1: can reach out and you know, we send out a
• 4:37
Speaker 1: lot of email to to folks in the hiring business
• 4:40
Speaker 1: to ask them to consider being on the show and
• 4:43
Speaker 1: or to ask them to submit a story. So if
• 4:45
Speaker 1: you get if you get an email from us, answer it. Yeah,
• 4:49
Speaker 1: that's what we really.
• 4:50
  Speaker 2: Would just say.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: Let us let us know that you if you're in
• 4:54
Speaker 1: the hiring business, you've got a story.
• 4:55
Speaker 2: Well, it's funny because like this you I know you.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: Because if I if we sat down and we talked, yeah,
• 5:00
Speaker 1: you got to joke it around a little relaxed a
• 5:01
Speaker 1: little bit. Sooner or later, you're hiring stories are going
• 5:04
  Speaker 1: to come out.
• 5:04
Speaker 2: And everybody, we've been sitting out because we have been
• 5:06
Speaker 2: sitting out a bunch of emails trying to get people
• 5:08
Speaker 2: to come be a guest on the show more or
• 5:09
Speaker 2: less than one way or another. And we either get
• 5:12
Speaker 2: the responsive no never talk to me again, or that
• 5:15
Speaker 2: sounds like a lot of fun. There's not a whole
• 5:18
Speaker 2: lot You never get the no, never talk to me again.
• 5:21
Speaker 2: There's a little bit of that in there, but I
• 5:23
Speaker 2: think they probably said it to everybody. Yeah, so maybe
• 5:26
Speaker 2: they're not a good fit for the show, but we
• 5:28
Speaker 2: haven't had a lot of people saying like, oh yeah,
• 5:30
Speaker 2: that sounds fun, Like let me know how I can
• 5:32
Speaker 2: be involved. And that's how we've had people sending in
• 5:34
Speaker 2: their segments or coming here to be in person on
• 5:37
Speaker 2: the show. And it's been a fun project. I love it. Yeah,
• 5:40
Speaker 2: all right, so I guess I'll go first. Is that right? Okay?
• 5:43
Speaker 2: So here we go.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: This was I don't know where this one came from,
• 5:48
Speaker 1: but when I was a creative director at a major
• 5:51
Speaker 1: advertising agency, I once hired a junior copywriter who seemed
• 5:56
Speaker 1: brilliant in the interviews, smart, confident, full of ideas. My
• 6:02
Speaker 1: instinct told me something was off, but I ignored it.
• 6:06
  Speaker 2: Oh.
• 6:07
Speaker 1: My philosophy was always to hire people who might one
• 6:11
Speaker 1: day take my job, and he tried to do exactly
• 6:15
  Speaker 1: that almost immediately.
• 6:17
Speaker 2: Really, I'm here to take your job.
• 6:20
Speaker 3: He certainly thought highly of himself.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: Within weeks, I called him going behind my back to
• 6:26
Speaker 1: pitch ideas directly to my boss after I had rejected them. Well,
• 6:30
Speaker 1: I warned him once, and he apologized, but the behavior continued.
• 6:34
Speaker 1: He spent most of his time flattering executives and trying
• 6:38
Speaker 1: to impress leadership while treating his peers, especially junior staff, terribly.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: It sounds like, ID is that worth the system?
• 6:45
Speaker 1: I guess so Ironically, despite his reputation with management apparently
• 6:51
Speaker 1: was good. He had a good reputation, was managed, but
• 6:53
Speaker 1: his actual work was mediocre. His real talent was convincing
• 6:57
Speaker 1: people he was brilliant.
• 7:00
  Speaker 2: It's good talent.
• 7:01
Speaker 1: Six months in the managing director called me into his
• 7:04
Speaker 1: office and told me this employee had complained about how
• 7:09
Speaker 1: I evaluated his creative work. To my surprise, my ball
• 7:12
Speaker 1: seemed to be taking his side.
• 7:14
Speaker 2: Oh no, this is not going well.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: This guy's genius, So I said, there will always be
• 7:21
Speaker 1: someone complaining as long as someone's willing to listen.
• 7:25
Speaker 2: Now tell me who do I go to if I
• 7:27
Speaker 2: need to complain about you? Oh? Well, he had no answer.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: I walked straight to the copywriter's office and I fired
• 7:34
Speaker 1: him on the spot.
• 7:35
Speaker 2: Ooh. To this day, it's still one of the most
• 7:39
Speaker 2: satisfying decisions I've ever made.
• 7:44
Speaker 3: Person sounds like the person that they hired, sounds like
• 7:48
Speaker 3: the strategic initiative guy.
• 7:51
Speaker 2: Do you remember that the guy was just a bunch
• 7:52
Speaker 2: of random, various tasks in respect.
• 7:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, he was like, I have this very top secret
• 7:57
Speaker 5: projuring that I'm working on.
• 7:58
Speaker 2: It's super strategic confidence, always worked on something important. Sounds
• 8:03
Speaker 2: really cool, but doesn't. Actually this guy it up to.
• 8:05
Speaker 1: The to the senior people, and and like the amos,
• 8:08
Speaker 1: ain't this big project. You're gonna love it smoothing them.
• 8:12
Speaker 1: So this guy knew how to you knew how to
• 8:13
Speaker 1: schmooze up, yeah, really trash talk down.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, which sounds like a toxic combination, I guess. But
• 8:21
Speaker 2: did you find the story on REDDITU? Yeah, as soon
• 8:24
Speaker 2: as you started reading she started laughing. I was like, oh,
• 8:26
Speaker 2: she knows the story. She was the one to find it.
• 8:31
Speaker 2: That's funny. That's that is kind of a scary combination
• 8:34
Speaker 2: of people who can get in there and just like
• 8:36
Speaker 2: be toxic down here, but then like schmooze the people
• 8:39
Speaker 2: up here. It's like you don't want to work with
• 8:41
Speaker 2: any way like that. Yeah.
• 8:42
Speaker 1: Can you imagine, you know, you hire somebody as like
• 8:45
Speaker 1: a junior and you they're pitching you ideas, and then
• 8:48
Speaker 1: you in an ad agency, which is just you know,
• 8:51
Speaker 1: that's it's just idea pitching, right, yes.
• 8:54
  Speaker 2: And.
• 8:55
Speaker 1: You know you see them circle around and you know
• 8:59
Speaker 1: they're they're in there talk into your balls, pitching an
• 9:01
  Speaker 1: idea around you.
• 9:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty much like asking your mom for something.
• 9:04
Speaker 2: She says no, then let me go take it. Ask
• 9:06
Speaker 2: my dad. That's it's not allowed. It does kind of
• 9:11
Speaker 2: sound like that a little bit of that mom said.
• 9:14
Speaker 2: We could go with Kim McDonald. Yeah, it's yeah, may
• 9:16
Speaker 2: be okay at home.
• 9:18

• 10:02
Speaker 2: All right, I got a couple of stories. The first one,
• 10:05
Speaker 2: I've got a video clip from an interview that I did,
• 10:07
Speaker 2: and I've got a story to read out loud, So
• 10:09
Speaker 2: we want to play this clip.
• 10:12
Speaker 4: I was working in Florida installing a performance appraisal system
• 10:16
Speaker 4: for the company. And we were bringing on all the
• 10:19
Speaker 4: managers to Florida for a week from Texas. And while
• 10:23
Speaker 4: I was gone, my admin she'd been promoted and she
• 10:27
Speaker 4: was hiring her replacement and so I and she was phenomenal,
• 10:30
Speaker 4: that's why she was being promoted. And the new admin
• 10:33
Speaker 4: started and for six weeks, I'm off site. I'm not
• 10:37
Speaker 4: in the office, so relying on getting phone calls, messages,
• 10:42
Speaker 4: things that are coming in, things that need to be done,
• 10:45
Speaker 4: and things are getting missed. It was just very, very odd.
• 10:48
Speaker 4: And I talked with the employee a couple times and said,
• 10:51
Speaker 4: you know, do you remember that you got a call
• 10:54
Speaker 4: from ABC and they needed me to call them and
• 10:57
Speaker 4: contact them. No, I don't remember that, okay, And so
• 11:00
Speaker 4: it happened a few times, and finally I said, are
• 11:03
Speaker 4: you writing down messages? And she said, I don't have
• 11:07
Speaker 4: time to do that, and I said, well, you're gonna
• 11:10
Speaker 4: have to because you're not remembering messages. And so she
• 11:13
Speaker 4: started writing them down, and when I'd get called to
• 11:16
Speaker 4: get them at the end of the day, she'd say, oh,
• 11:19
Speaker 4: I forgot to write the phone number down. I've got
• 11:20
Speaker 4: his first name, but I don't have so.
• 11:26
  Speaker 1: It was not.
• 11:27
Speaker 4: Comical, but it was comical, and she did not beneath
• 11:31
Speaker 4: the ninety days that's funny.
• 11:33
Speaker 2: It's not funny, but it is. It's like and mean,
• 11:36
Speaker 2: it's like a reception herself remembering that story. It's like
• 11:40
Speaker 2: she told that. I like, it's like, hey, your one
• 11:44
Speaker 2: job is to write down messages and get them to me.
• 11:47
Speaker 2: He's like, oh, I don't have time for that.
• 11:49
Speaker 3: Who writes down their first name?
• 11:51
Speaker 2: Bob called you? And yeah, not even a last names.
• 11:55
Speaker 2: What's Bob's number? Oh? You know? Yeah, I have to
• 11:59
Speaker 2: write down the phone number? Two? You may here's out that.
• 12:02
Speaker 1: Hey, hey, you're really.
• 12:04
Speaker 3: Asking a lot of here to write downer.
• 12:07
Speaker 2: Okay. So it's like, hey, it's Bob, right, Bob calls it,
• 12:10
Speaker 2: you know, she says. You know. The girl's like, yeah, hey,
• 12:14
Speaker 2: hey Bob, Yeah, can you so and so there?
• 12:16
Speaker 1: No, there, can I take a message? Yeah it's Bob
• 12:20
Speaker 1: so and so there's And she's like, okay, Bob, I
• 12:22
  Speaker 1: got it.
• 12:23
Speaker 2: Oh, okay, by calling back at this number and I
• 12:28
Speaker 2: need to pass on this message. Okay, got it? Baba
• 12:30
Speaker 2: called yet? What do you say? Which is Bob I
• 12:34
  Speaker 2: don't know.
• 12:36
Speaker 3: Because imagine there's more than one Bob and you don't know,
• 12:39
  Speaker 3: you don't.
• 12:40
Speaker 2: Know what, I don't know. What else is the admin
• 12:42
Speaker 2: doing that They don't have time to write down some messages,
• 12:45
Speaker 2: write down a number that's yes, she cracked herself up.
• 12:51
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 12:52
Speaker 1: For those of you who don't remember there, you know,
• 12:55
Speaker 1: it used to be that you had people call and
• 12:58
Speaker 1: you would get messages and they would be voicemail or yeah,
• 13:02
Speaker 1: if you had an assistant back in the day, even
• 13:05
Speaker 1: when you have voicemail, you know, your your assistant would
• 13:09
Speaker 1: take the take the message.
• 13:10
Speaker 2: You had these pads where like the pages of.
• 13:14
Speaker 1: Messages would be autumn, you know, and you've get these
• 13:16
Speaker 1: little slips of paper with here's people who called you.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: If you got to slip a paper with Bob, it'd
• 13:21
Speaker 1: be like, like, get an email from your sistant just
• 13:24
  Speaker 1: said Bob called.
• 13:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, like what or it's like Jerry is in the
• 13:28
Speaker 2: hospital and needs help and call it called this number
• 13:30
Speaker 2: and you need to be here this time. And then
• 13:32
Speaker 2: you just get the message like, oh, somebody's in the hospital.
• 13:34
Speaker 2: It's like who what what are the details in hospital? Yeah,
• 13:38
Speaker 2: Bob called was hurt? Some details here oh, anyway, said
• 13:44
Speaker 2: that that's funny all right. The other one I just
• 13:45
Speaker 2: found on Reddit, but here you go. I once set
• 13:49
Speaker 2: up a job interview for my friend's nephew, let's call
• 13:53
Speaker 2: the nephew Paul. A company that I knew was hiring
• 13:57
Speaker 2: about thirty college students for summer work, and that nephew's
• 14:01
Speaker 2: major lineup perfectly with what the company actually did. And
• 14:05
Speaker 2: I also knew the hiring manager for this job personally,
• 14:08
Speaker 2: so I felt like it was a great opportunity. A
• 14:10
Speaker 2: couple of weeks later, the nephew's uncle emailed me and
• 14:13
Speaker 2: asked how things went. So I reached out to my
• 14:16
Speaker 2: friend in HR and I said to him, Hey, how
• 14:19
Speaker 2: the interview go. The HR guy said great, we needed
• 14:21
Speaker 2: thirty people and we had We only had an interview
• 14:24
Speaker 2: with thirty one candidates, so we were able to fill
• 14:28
Speaker 2: all the spots. And I said, oh, that's nice. So
• 14:29
Speaker 2: how was Paul one of them? And there's an awkward
• 14:33
Speaker 2: pause and he said yes he was, and I said
• 14:38
Speaker 2: what happened? He goes, well, he was naked during the interview,
• 14:42
Speaker 2: so we decided to pass naked. He was naked during
• 14:47
Speaker 2: the interview, so I decided to pass. I said, what
• 14:49
Speaker 2: are you serious. There's no way that he would show
• 14:51
Speaker 2: up to an interview naked, and my friend said, well,
• 14:54
Speaker 2: it was a zoom interview. Apparently when they started the
• 14:58
Speaker 2: call and they turned on the video, Paul was just
• 15:00
Speaker 2: lying in bed completely naked, and so I said, I
• 15:03
Speaker 2: said to the HR guy, well, maybe he didn't realize
• 15:05
Speaker 2: that you could see him, was it? Maybe he thought
• 15:07
Speaker 2: it was audio only And my friend said, well that's
• 15:09
Speaker 2: what we thought too, is We told him, hey, just
• 15:11
Speaker 2: so you know, we can see you, and Paul said,
• 15:14
Speaker 2: oh sorry. He pulled a sheet over himself, and they said,
• 15:17
Speaker 2: do you want to reschedule the interview? He's like, no,
• 15:19
Speaker 2: I'm good, we can keep going. And so yeah, we
• 15:21
Speaker 2: decided to pass. So sorry about that, Paul. Oh my god.
• 15:25
Speaker 3: How old is Paul?
• 15:26
Speaker 2: I don't know, hopefully least eighteen, but I was sure
• 15:33
Speaker 2: so he was. He was the thirty first candidate and
• 15:35
Speaker 2: didn't get that one one empty spot.
• 15:37
Speaker 1: We take thirty eight, thirty one, you're the thirty four
• 15:40
Speaker 1: what and it happens to be the gap that was
• 15:42
  Speaker 1: referred to.
• 15:42
Speaker 2: This is like Cat and Azzle or two point the
• 15:46
Speaker 2: naked cat that is there is still my favorite story.
• 15:48
Speaker 2: Now that's good of a T shirt. Yeah. Just in fact, there.
• 15:54
Speaker 1: Are so many Zoom interviews from bad, just really bad,
• 15:59
Speaker 1: just great stories about really.
• 16:00
Speaker 2: Bad interviews on Zoom. Yeah, you know.
• 16:03
Speaker 1: Because here we've had I've had a couple where, you know,
• 16:08
Speaker 1: I've just really had to get on someone about how
• 16:12
Speaker 1: they got onto a Zoom call. Yeah, just you know,
• 16:16
Speaker 1: don't I think we talked about this before. You remember
• 16:18
Speaker 1: the first that you know, when when COVID first happened,
• 16:21
Speaker 1: everybody went and everybody showed up to Zoom the next
• 16:24
Speaker 1: week and everyone was looking sharp and.
• 16:25
Speaker 2: After Yeah, it was all dressed up. They actually suit
• 16:29
Speaker 2: and tie every day, and then it was a student
• 16:31
Speaker 2: tie with sweatpants, and then it was just all sweatpants everything. Yeah,
• 16:35
Speaker 2: slowly just and the it was Paul just not wearing anything.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: You know, I haven't showered in a week. You know,
• 16:40
  Speaker 2: everybody turns.
• 16:41
Speaker 1: It went from bright eyed and everybody's going to all
• 16:44
Speaker 1: cameras off, you goes.
• 16:46
Speaker 2: A camera on. Uh, I'm actually at Marshalls right now
• 16:51
Speaker 2: with a checkout my guests. Yeah, there's a lot of
• 16:55
  Speaker 2: those stories.
• 16:56
Speaker 1: Do I had a call with someone of this today,
• 16:59
Speaker 1: I mean yesterday and it was three three folks from
• 17:03
Speaker 1: their from their team, and one of them they had
• 17:06
Speaker 1: the fake backgrounds going, you know, and one of them
• 17:11
Speaker 1: was sounded like he was.
• 17:13
Speaker 2: Standing on a street corner.
• 17:14
Speaker 1: I mean, it was just like traffic, other people voices.
• 17:21
Speaker 2: I mean it was.
• 17:21
Speaker 1: I was like, this guy, I think he's maybe he
• 17:24
Speaker 1: was sitting in his car, you know, I don't know,
• 17:27
Speaker 1: but I was like, really, why did you get on
• 17:30
Speaker 1: this phone call? If you're gonna yeah, you know, at
• 17:33
Speaker 1: least put it on mute. Wait, Marcus, can you actually
• 17:36
Speaker 1: pull up a clip from YouTube real fast? With that'd
• 17:38
Speaker 1: be hard I was working. Just just go to YouTube
• 17:42
Speaker 1: real fast and type type this in because I want
• 17:46
Speaker 1: you to see this.
• 17:47
Speaker 2: And Ken, there's just one guy who, especially during COVID,
• 17:51
Speaker 2: he would just go around doing interviews and stuff like
• 17:54
Speaker 2: with a green screen behind him, but was like attached
• 17:57
Speaker 2: to his back as he's doing all these crazy things
• 17:59
Speaker 2: like snowboarding and stuff and just pretend like everything's fine
• 18:02
Speaker 2: as he's like flying through the air. So so you
• 18:04
Speaker 2: go to YouTube, just type in it's Franky Lapenna and
• 18:09
Speaker 2: just like water slide or something like that, and green's
• 18:13
Speaker 2: green or something like that. Because I think Ken you
• 18:16
Speaker 2: need to see this.
• 18:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm always I'm not a big fan of the
• 18:21
Speaker 1: fake backgrounds anyway, you know, I just I was. I
• 18:25
Speaker 1: was the same call.
• 18:27
Speaker 2: Two of them had the exact same background on. Yeah right,
• 18:31
  Speaker 2: oh that's right. Yeah, And I'm like, I don't know,
• 18:35
  Speaker 2: it looks weird.
• 18:36
Speaker 1: You're looking at him and like they look like they're
• 18:37
Speaker 1: standing in some room at some random.
• 18:43
Speaker 2: Really right the opportunity.
• 18:47
Speaker 1: Okay, and Frank, you have those projections for Q three.
• 18:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, they pull him up right here real quick, pull
• 18:52
Speaker 2: him up Batchie and Frank, are you okay? Man made
• 19:03
Speaker 2: it big from doing that, apparently ended up. So I
• 19:05
Speaker 2: guess maybe maybe it start I always only one or
• 19:07
Speaker 2: two of those. Maybe it started as a thing and
• 19:09
Speaker 2: then you just took it to the extreme, whereas they
• 19:11
Speaker 2: got an NFL game or whatever. But I think the
• 19:13
Speaker 2: first one he was actually pranking somebody and it was
• 19:15
Speaker 2: like semi believable at first, and then it just went
• 19:17
Speaker 2: to the extreme. But that probably originated dirty. No, it's it's.
• 19:23
Speaker 1: Like watching I hate the fake backgrounds.
• 19:25
  Speaker 2: Now, I think I've got a fake backfron So I
• 19:27
Speaker 2: got I gotta change mind? Can that on? Yim a lot?
• 19:30
Speaker 1: I mean I get it if you just don't have
• 19:33
Speaker 1: the right place my Chex branded at least though, Yeah,
• 19:36
Speaker 1: so I got that. Oh if they do something like that, right,
• 19:39
Speaker 1: if you brand it and it's just you know, yours,
• 19:44
Speaker 1: that's kind of cool. But I was sitting there on
• 19:47
Speaker 1: the thing and like two people sat by side. It
• 19:49
Speaker 1: looks like they're sitting, you know, in the same exact room.
• 19:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, because you get on Google Meet or Zoom or whatever,
• 19:56
Speaker 2: and they have the virtual screens and there's like the
• 20:00
Speaker 2: first choice for everybody, So everybody kind of all has
• 20:02
Speaker 2: that same living room as their background. Yeah.
• 20:04
Speaker 1: In fact, make sure this happens here, right, If we're
• 20:08
Speaker 1: going to put backgrounds, it should be backgrounds of our office.
• 20:12
Speaker 1: Take photos, you know, have somebody take photos in our office.
• 20:16
Speaker 2: You know, we got really cool office Old Hill.
• 20:21
Speaker 1: Why would we have some fake office in New York,
• 20:23
Speaker 1: you know in the background we.
• 20:25
Speaker 2: Could get you know, they have those, you know, they
• 20:27
Speaker 2: have those looping live video backgrounds. We just have one
• 20:30
Speaker 2: of like living a random walk around to the background
• 20:33
Speaker 2: and stuff like that.
• 20:33
Speaker 1: I heard some I heard some guy talking the other day.
• 20:36
Speaker 1: I think he was a judge, and he was furious
• 20:40
Speaker 1: about somebody who would you know, got online and had
• 20:44
Speaker 1: that and it had a cat. The video was a
• 20:47
Speaker 1: cat walking back and.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: Forth behind the guy. Yeah, he was so furious over it.
• 20:53
  Speaker 2: I'm just like, you know, I don't know. I don't
• 20:55
Speaker 2: know why. Well, you can make on this. You can
• 20:57
Speaker 2: make your own virtual video background behind you. And there's
• 21:00
Speaker 2: this one where a guy sitting at his thing. We
• 21:02
Speaker 2: put it. He had pre recorded him walking up behind
• 21:05
Speaker 2: himself and pouring himself a cup of coffee. So during
• 21:09
Speaker 2: all he's sitting there, just like his clode comes up
• 21:11
Speaker 2: and just pours. It would open and did that. Oh really,
• 21:16
Speaker 2: did you break somebody? I was such an idiot.
• 21:19
Speaker 1: I cut a video of me walking into my office
• 21:21
Speaker 1: and walking behind and doing something behind me, and then
• 21:25
Speaker 1: came in and then I had you know, I had
• 21:27
Speaker 1: just stopped and looked down at myself, and so when
• 21:29
Speaker 1: it happened, I was like, looked up at myself.
• 21:32
Speaker 2: Oh it's Ken's twin. Yeah, walk about you. I was
• 21:34
Speaker 2: right in the middle of a meeting that pulled it off.
• 21:37
Speaker 2: That's funny. Yeah, lots of green screen talk. All right,
• 21:40
Speaker 2: So what's up? Are you? You still gotta go?
• 21:42
  Speaker 5: Yeah?
• 21:42
Speaker 2: Oh sorry, we just went off the ring. Are we ready.
• 21:46
Speaker 2: All right, We're sorry with ready game base. Yeah, let's go.
• 21:50
Speaker 3: This one sounds really similar to the one that you
• 21:53
  Speaker 3: just told.
• 21:56
Speaker 5: Years ago, a colleague and I interviewed a man named
• 21:58
Speaker 5: Miles for a Mary Junior's civil service position.
• 22:02
Speaker 3: On paper, he was overqualified, private school, a law degree,
• 22:05
Speaker 3: well spoken, so we assumed he had simply taken an
• 22:08
Speaker 3: unusual career path. For about a year, he did the
• 22:11
Speaker 3: job reasonably well, though coworkers noticed he was moody and
• 22:14
Speaker 3: often rude, even to his own family when they called
• 22:17
Speaker 3: the office. Eventually, complaints started coming in that he ignored
• 22:20
Speaker 3: instructions or treated colleagues poorly. It became clear Miles believed
• 22:25
Speaker 3: the job and many people around him were beneath him.
• 22:28
Speaker 3: I sat him down and explained that while he was
• 22:30
Speaker 3: free to aim for something better, he still needed to
• 22:32
Speaker 3: do the job he'd been hired for. Instead of responding normally,
• 22:35
Speaker 3: he stood there silently, furious, clinching his fists like a
• 22:39
  Speaker 3: child being scotted.
• 22:40
Speaker 2: Oh wow, like Arthur in the meme.
• 22:42
Speaker 5: Yes, exactly like that.
• 22:47
Speaker 3: We'll have to get to that.
• 22:50
Speaker 5: Not long after I moved to another role. One of
• 22:53
Speaker 5: Miles's new task was organizing staff photos. For updated security passes. Oddly,
• 22:57
Speaker 5: he photographed everyone except me. After three months, I had
• 23:01
Speaker 5: to order him to come take the photo, which he
• 23:03
Speaker 5: did reluctantly and then lost it quote unquote, my past
• 23:07
Speaker 5: was never issued. I warned leadership that his attitude would
• 23:10
Speaker 5: eventually cause a serious problem, but they dismissed it. A
• 23:13
Speaker 5: few months later, the department sold some old filing cabinets.
• 23:17
Speaker 5: Miles had been told to make sure they were empty
• 23:19
Speaker 5: before they went out. He didn't bother. The company that
• 23:22
Speaker 5: bought them later contacted us to say several cabinets still
• 23:25
Speaker 5: contained confidential files personal information about members of the public.
• 23:29
Speaker 5: That was a moment everyone finally realized Myles was the
• 23:32
Speaker 5: was exactly the problem.
• 23:33
Speaker 2: I had warned the Fowles, that's not good man. All
• 23:38
Speaker 2: his stars with like a bad attitude too, like, oh
• 23:40
Speaker 2: this is all beneath me. Yeah, that's crazy. I think
• 23:44
Speaker 2: kind of a theme of like yeah, today's episodes. Yeah, well,
• 23:49
Speaker 2: just in general, you see these stories.
• 23:51
Speaker 1: Where it's like the stem of I don't know, they have.
• 23:55
Speaker 2: Liked what do you look it up? I go market mark,
• 24:02
Speaker 2: what do you what do you Yeah? Click, yeah, there
• 24:07
Speaker 2: you go. So that was a little the story you
• 24:10
Speaker 2: guys would do this with his fists, like yeah, that's
• 24:14
Speaker 2: right before he punched his sister d w I think
• 24:16
Speaker 2: in the famous episode. So that was Miles just thinking
• 24:21
Speaker 2: that he was better than everybody else. I guess. So
• 24:25
Speaker 2: at first it was him being like prideful, and then
• 24:27
Speaker 2: it was him Was he doing that on purpose leaving
• 24:30
Speaker 2: the files and the filing cabinet to try and like
• 24:32
Speaker 2: or would he just be at his job?
• 24:34
Speaker 5: I think he was just doing it on purpose because
• 24:36
Speaker 5: he thought that everybody was beneath him, so he was like,
• 24:38
Speaker 5: I don't have to listen to these people.
• 24:39
Speaker 2: I guess. So that's what it sounded like and is
• 24:42
Speaker 2: getting out there. Yeah, wow, dang, that's crazy. Is that
• 24:48
Speaker 2: that for you today? Yes? That is all my stories too.
• 24:50
Speaker 2: Nice work. Yeah, that's that was fun. Yeah, good, good,
• 24:55
Speaker 2: good show. I liked it. Yeah, is our first YouTube
• 24:59
Speaker 2: pull up. It was thanks Marcus, appreciate it and thanks

• 25:14
Speaker 1: Getting his getting his internship in. That's kind of cool.
• 25:17
Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah, I loved it.
• 25:21
Speaker 1: My sister went there, so I had to I had
• 25:23
  Speaker 1: to chop it.
• 25:24
Speaker 2: Up with him about it. We might be recording that
• 25:26
Speaker 2: in the whole party. We'll just we'll pass it into
• 25:28
Speaker 2: the podcast. We'll see.
• 25:30

• 26:34
Speaker 1: And we need to get a like a so people
• 26:37
  Speaker 1: understand I'm serious.
• 26:38
Speaker 2: I'm going to give away ten thousand bucks.
• 26:40
Speaker 1: I need to get like ten thousand dollars and like
• 26:43
Speaker 1: and hold it up. I go, here's the ten thousand
• 26:45
Speaker 1: dollars and one hundred I think really going to give
• 26:47
  Speaker 1: this money away?
• 26:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, well to get a whole briefcase of ones behind
• 26:50
Speaker 2: you look cool? Yeah, briefcase with it, Yeah, and then
• 26:53
Speaker 2: we give it away.
• 26:54
Speaker 1: Let's do it that way collect if it was because
• 26:57
Speaker 1: if it was one hundreds, it'd be like that big

Speaker 1: as to be so much for the Yeah, they're gonna
• 27:02
Speaker 1: to ask him, do you want the ten thousand dollars
