- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This week on the show, we have high school theater techies.
- 0:11Speaker 1: That's right, we got the tech department and we got
- 0:13Speaker 1: them to sit down and talk about their craft.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The tech department of any theater high school production is
- 0:20Speaker 2: the lifeblood of that high school theater production. So what's
- 0:25Speaker 2: going on behind the scenes at the Crucible We're gonna
- 0:28Speaker 2: find out today.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Turn the only shirt you have that's black inside out,
- 0:33Speaker 3: put on your headset and sign into the call sheet
- 0:36Speaker 3: because we're talking to techies. Let's listen in.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Whoa guys, Hey, guys, Wow, we're all here. We made it.
- 0:50Speaker 5: This is gonna be yeah.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Is gonna be bad?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not. I mean, we don't really perform, so
- 0:56Speaker 2: it's it's kind of interesting to be interviewed like this.
- 1:01Speaker 3: But I'm really stoked to be with my other dark
- 1:05Speaker 3: clowns today.
- 1:09Speaker 6: It's exciting to be here.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, go around.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, first of all, we all go to we all
- 1:16Speaker 2: go to uhiest Comnys in Sherman Oaks, and so we
- 1:24Speaker 2: uh pretty much run the tech theater. The tech Uh sorry,
- 1:30Speaker 2: I'm so nervous. We are the we are the crew
- 1:34Speaker 2: at at high school.
- 1:38Speaker 4: You got it, you got it?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry, that's my head gets all jumbles sometimes.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Just smoke a fat j before Yeah yeah, yeah, I
- 1:47Speaker 2: did apologize.
- 1:49Speaker 6: We're not used to being, you know, in the limelight.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Like we're always behind and stuff.
- 1:56Speaker 6: I'm a little out of my comfort zone. I'll admit
- 1:59Speaker 6: that I'm more used to being in the booth.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Well, why don't you introduce yourself to the people, because
- 2:07Speaker 2: you you are a booth guy.
- 2:10Speaker 6: Yeah. My name is Dustin Smith. I'm the lighting master.
- 2:16Speaker 6: I run lights in the booth at Saint to Coveney
- 2:23Speaker 6: and uh, you know, I just I just have one rule.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Actors don't touch my booth.
- 2:31Speaker 7: Yes, And they're always coming up there and trying to fiddle,
- 2:34Speaker 7: you know, They're so annoying.
- 2:40Speaker 3: All the time.
- 2:41Speaker 5: I'm next to Dustin, even though it is his booth.
- 2:44Speaker 5: I'm next to Dustin, and I run the mics.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So when people are miked up and they go backstage,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I make sure to turn their mic off. If I'm
- 2:55Speaker 1: being successful and I'm not drinking too much pale ailes,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I have to make sure to turn off mics. And
- 3:01Speaker 1: my big rule is don't eat while you're in the mic.
- 3:04Speaker 1: No lunch in mics, you.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Tell them your name.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Oh my name Soda.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah, don't ask how we got that nickname is too
- 3:12Speaker 2: gross to tell you.
- 3:13Speaker 7: You don't want to know, Soda story.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'm chunk, I run. I build most of the flats here,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and so I've done I mean, I'm a senior, fifth
- 3:28Speaker 2: year senior. Actually, so i've been. I've done flats for
- 3:33Speaker 2: Romeo and Julia, for the Crucible for uh, you can't
- 3:37Speaker 2: take it with you importance to being earnest. I've really
- 3:42Speaker 2: kind of done it all almost. Yeah, And I take
- 3:45Speaker 2: this class because it counts for credit and because I
- 3:49Speaker 2: need more credits, and because it's the only one where
- 3:52Speaker 2: I can leave in the middle of class and like
- 3:54Speaker 2: go go, you know, smoke a stog or leaf.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And you've been at our cool for more than four years, right.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, I'm going on your five should be the
- 4:05Speaker 2: last one, but it's too early to say. Yeah, we're
- 4:08Speaker 2: halfway through, so we'll see. Anyway, that's my deal.
- 4:13Speaker 3: What's up, Twisted Souls. My name is Shadow. I'm a
- 4:19Speaker 3: stage hand. I move things in and out. I hang
- 4:22Speaker 3: out in the back.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I also like to kiss shadow kisses a lot.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Honestly, people say that I smell like kisses because I
- 4:33Speaker 3: kiss so much, and I do. I'm like kind of
- 4:38Speaker 3: a troublemaker. I like to cause problems and I'm a
- 4:41Speaker 3: little mischievous. If I were to be a Shakespeare character,
- 4:44Speaker 3: BuzzFeed says, I'd be Puck.
- 4:47Speaker 2: But at the same time, you're the most straight edge
- 4:49Speaker 2: person here.
- 4:51Speaker 4: You're viciously straight edge.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like violently straight edge.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I don't drink, I don't do drugs, and I don't
- 4:57Speaker 3: curse because I believe that cursing shows you have a
- 5:00Speaker 3: lack of knowledge about vocabulary, and I think that actually
- 5:04Speaker 3: looks bad on you. So but other than that, I
- 5:07Speaker 3: am a little promiscuous. I like exploring my sexuality. I
- 5:12Speaker 3: have a tumbler where I write about what my sexuality
- 5:14Speaker 3: is every day and I'm tracking it. And also I
- 5:18Speaker 3: just like being around people.
- 5:21Speaker 6: I've also noticed that when I'm hanging lights and moving
- 5:26Speaker 6: lights around that you don't seem to like it. When
- 5:29Speaker 6: the light hits you, you sort of scurry away.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I don't like light, as you can tell. I'm hiding
- 5:34Speaker 3: behind my favorite blanket right now. Light is pretty much
- 5:39Speaker 3: my kryptonite if it hits my face. I like to
- 5:43Speaker 3: stay in the shadows. This is my name shadow.
- 5:48Speaker 7: Well, I'm Andrew Furnish and I'm a tech. I do
- 5:53Speaker 7: props and I do the second spotlight kind of up there,
- 5:58Speaker 7: just trying to follow the actors. It's stressful. Come come
- 6:02Speaker 7: show time.
- 6:02Speaker 2: You got to chill out, my dude.
- 6:04Speaker 7: I try, I try, I try, but it's it's just
- 6:08Speaker 7: a lot of work following those actors, especially second, because
- 6:11Speaker 7: first you got an easy job right in center stage. Second,
- 6:15Speaker 7: they're going anywhere, they're following, blocking, and so like I
- 6:17Speaker 7: kind of have to remember all the shows to do it.
- 6:20Speaker 7: So yeah, But but honestly, you guys are so funny
- 6:23Speaker 7: and so cool. And I used to be homeschooled until
- 6:26Speaker 7: I went to high school or like when our school started,
- 6:29Speaker 7: like seventh grade, and you guys have kind of like
- 6:30Speaker 7: shown me a world.
- 6:32Speaker 6: You know where you're doing. You're doing wonderful, young one,
- 6:35Speaker 6: and I'm excited to announce that when I graduate at
- 6:38Speaker 6: then when I graduated at the end of this year, you,
- 6:44Speaker 6: my protege, are going to become the new master of life.
- 6:47Speaker 7: What no, what, Well, I've proven your young ones, So bro,
- 6:55Speaker 7: you've learned.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You've learned.
- 6:57Speaker 5: That means next year's show, you'll be lighting Frozen.
- 7:01Speaker 7: Yeah, we're doing Frozen the musical in high school and
- 7:04Speaker 7: I get to light it.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Are you serious?
- 7:05Speaker 6: And there's a lot of lights for Frozen? It takes
- 7:09Speaker 6: place in an ice world, which means that there's a
- 7:12Speaker 6: lot of crystals, snow, reflections, refractions, and I think that
- 7:19Speaker 6: you're ready for the task.
- 7:20Speaker 4: No, are you serious?
- 7:22Speaker 6: Yes?
- 7:22Speaker 4: I don't know if I can follow. I can follow you.
- 7:24Speaker 4: You're like the pro you.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Like look fear in his eyes. I wish I could
- 7:27Speaker 3: drink it.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 7:30Speaker 6: You're afraid because you're not sure if you're up to
- 7:32Speaker 6: the challenge. But I assure you this year, I've taught
- 7:37Speaker 6: you everything I know and I'm so proud of you.
- 7:41Speaker 3: We are so sad to be losing you by the
- 7:43Speaker 3: way you literally you are like our master and commander,
- 7:46Speaker 3: Like we're going to be watching.
- 7:47Speaker 6: You're like, I'm really going to miss this place. I
- 7:53Speaker 6: would say that Saint di Coveny Drama Department saved my life.
- 8:00Speaker 2: What whoa what do you mean?
- 8:03Speaker 6: Well? When I was a young freshman, I I auditioned
- 8:07Speaker 6: for a play and I wasn't cast. Oh my gosh,
- 8:11Speaker 6: and I was ready to give up.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Well, yeah, you joined the water polo team, didn't.
- 8:15Speaker 6: I did join the water polo team briefly, and I
- 8:18Speaker 6: almost drowned. I thought I had I thought that the
- 8:22Speaker 6: theater had given up on me. But I decided I'm
- 8:25Speaker 6: not going to give up on the theater, and I
- 8:28Speaker 6: found my home here in the booth, and I'm going
- 8:33Speaker 6: to this displaced.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Don't dust, don't cry. You don't have any tear ducks.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, because of the water the water polo accident.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It comes out of jewel.
- 8:44Speaker 6: I got too much water. The water went into my
- 8:47Speaker 6: tear ducks, and in the hospital they had to do
- 8:52Speaker 6: a surgical procedure to remove my tear ducks and redirect
- 8:55Speaker 6: them to my mouth.
- 8:58Speaker 2: One time I saw. I don't mean to embarrass you, dude,
- 9:02Speaker 2: but when you and Emily broke up, I found you
- 9:04Speaker 2: in the booth just drooling for like an hour.
- 9:08Speaker 6: That was the worst night of my life.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I'm so sorry for rosing you. It just seems like
- 9:12Speaker 2: you're over it.
- 9:13Speaker 4: But we called you drool man.
- 9:14Speaker 7: We called you bulldog for that day because you just
- 9:16Speaker 7: couldn't stop drooling.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was under you, because that's because
- 9:21Speaker 1: for some reason, our booth people should know at vertical.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Lights go above and I'm all lower ground, just below.
- 9:33Speaker 6: So I believe at that point you were you were
- 9:35Speaker 6: actually sleeping in the booth, so you were spending a
- 9:39Speaker 6: lot of time down there. I didn't actually realize you
- 9:41Speaker 6: were in there when I went in there to seek
- 9:43Speaker 6: solace after Emily shattered my heart into a million pieces.
- 9:48Speaker 6: I got so sad I started drooling. I didn't know
- 9:52Speaker 6: you were down there or passed out. I'm not sure.
- 9:56Speaker 6: I'm sorry for drooling on you that day.
- 9:58Speaker 5: It's okay, I mean, what happen and SODA's already wet.
- 10:01Speaker 4: You know, Yeah, and it was.
- 10:02Speaker 7: It was awkward, I gotta say, because like Emily still
- 10:04Speaker 7: does crew and she's still this text, so like like
- 10:08Speaker 7: watching watching you grow, watching you grow past that when
- 10:11Speaker 7: she started dating Carlos, like, you're so strong and I've
- 10:16Speaker 7: learned so much under your wing.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I remember the first day I realized you guys weren't
- 10:20Speaker 3: even together, because we all came in at the same time.
- 10:23Speaker 3: And usually when you see her, you guys give each
- 10:25Speaker 3: other kisses on the cheek.
- 10:27Speaker 4: It's like four or five kisses and you.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Guys didn't even hug each other one day.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Like it was like, oh, were off that day.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Can tell you could tell when some when drama's happening.
- 10:39Speaker 7: You can always tell a shadows running scurrying around with
- 10:41Speaker 7: his blanket, like I.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Can't stop the feeling of like drama. Like if drama
- 10:45Speaker 3: starts happening, it takes over my body, Like I'm a
- 10:48Speaker 3: man possessed, Like I literally like I start freaking, like
- 10:51Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm like a cat who's like knows a
- 10:53Speaker 3: thunderstorm is coming, like it's crazy.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he knows like crazy shit is about to happen.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Like do you remember in Macbeth? Are we in a
- 11:05Speaker 2: theater in Macbeth? When okay, it's okay, man, it's fine.
- 11:12Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know the last time you said Macbeth,
- 11:15Speaker 5: it was nine to eleven.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we were all in high school and this was.
- 11:21Speaker 5: You were still in high school.
- 11:22Speaker 1: That's a scoorly tell about you, because you've been in
- 11:23Speaker 1: a high school for soul.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Okay, fine, it's not five years, it's twenty five years.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I've been in high school for twenty five years. Anyway,
- 11:33Speaker 2: when we said Macbeth in theater, and then Kelsey forgot
- 11:36Speaker 2: her lines. You like started vibrating, like right before they
- 11:40Speaker 2: hit that scene where she was supposed to do outdamn spot.
- 11:43Speaker 2: You were like, something's not right, and your hands were
- 11:45Speaker 2: like shaking, and you were kind of like levitating above
- 11:47Speaker 2: the ground a little bit.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I am cursed in that way, like.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I just feel my dog is cursed.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I am cursed and I'm not to be messed with.
- 11:57Speaker 3: And I know a lot of secrets about the dark
- 11:59Speaker 3: worlds that could turn your heart inside out.
- 12:04Speaker 7: So yeah, And was that good for Emily? Did you
- 12:07Speaker 7: guys recover? Do you feel good?
- 12:10Speaker 6: No, I've I think I've made peace with it.
- 12:14Speaker 3: It's good.
- 12:15Speaker 6: In the end, she was on crewe listen doesn't in
- 12:21Speaker 6: the she was in both types of crew. She was
- 12:26Speaker 6: on stage crew, which was how we met, but also
- 12:29Speaker 6: the crew team.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Yeah, boat crew.
- 12:32Speaker 6: And ever since my water polo accident, being around water
- 12:37Speaker 6: has just been difficult for me, and I think ultimately
- 12:39Speaker 6: that got in the way. So probably it's for the best.
- 12:44Speaker 6: I'm so grateful for the experience. I will always love
- 12:48Speaker 6: Emily and I'm so happy for the home that we
- 12:53Speaker 6: had here in the theater amongst you. Yeah, and I'm
- 12:58Speaker 6: just really grateful for all of the memories that I
- 13:00Speaker 6: will take with me onto college.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Of course, doesn't.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think what also helped you heal is that she
- 13:06Speaker 1: wasn't always on cruise. She emily runs the snow machine,
- 13:10Speaker 1: where she rips up a bunch of pieces of paper
- 13:13Speaker 1: and throws it.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Like if we're doing like.
- 13:15Speaker 4: We try to do snow almost every show.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah, our high school theater director, we should talk about
- 13:20Speaker 1: miss Lappins or.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I mean Jen, Jen, if you're sorry, I'm on the
- 13:27Speaker 2: I'm at that level with Jen where I can call
- 13:28Speaker 2: her Jen.
- 13:29Speaker 5: I can't, I can't mislap In.
- 13:31Speaker 1: She Yeah, she's thanks appropriately, so I'm scared of her.
- 13:34Speaker 1: But oh no, it's really inappropriate.
- 13:38Speaker 5: But mis Lappin is.
- 13:39Speaker 6: Hard that you're aware of how inappropriate.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like really deeply inappropriate.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Yeah, and I just I'm sorry.
- 13:47Speaker 1: If you have ever said anything, I am always talking
- 13:49Speaker 1: to administration, but none of you guys have.
- 13:52Speaker 2: But I'm sorry, man, I'm.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Sorry, I'm so so I'm so sorry. Like you know
- 14:00Speaker 3: that I support you because I've always hated miss Lappin.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I think the choice that she makes directing this department
- 14:06Speaker 3: are wrong. I think they are bad a lot of
- 14:10Speaker 3: her choices like your enemies. I can tell she knows
- 14:13Speaker 3: that I don't like her, and I think she knows
- 14:17Speaker 3: that also that like I know that she doesn't like me,
- 14:20Speaker 3: and it's like a drama, like for real, and I
- 14:24Speaker 3: think one day we're gonna have a fistfight.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Yeah, but Chuck, you and miss Lappin are so close.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Well, yeah, Jen and I are really close because well,
- 14:35Speaker 2: I mean, I'm twenty one. So we kind of bond
- 14:40Speaker 2: over like adult stuff like taxes and like we can
- 14:45Speaker 2: both drink, which is awesome, Like we can both like
- 14:48Speaker 2: go to the store, and like I don't even need
- 14:49Speaker 2: my fake anymore, Like I still have it just kind
- 14:52Speaker 2: of for the memories, but like I don't even use
- 14:54Speaker 2: my fake anymore. And so it's like we bond over
- 14:58Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. And so like I'm sorry, I'm
- 15:00Speaker 2: gonna I'm gonna talk to her about that, dude, because
- 15:03Speaker 2: that's super inappropriate. Like that's not cool anymore. Like maybe
- 15:07Speaker 2: five years ago at this school you could do that.
- 15:09Speaker 2: You can't do that anymore, No, you can't.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But anyway, Mislappin, thank you for saying that Mislappin wants
- 15:14Speaker 1: all of our finale sequences to have it snow at
- 15:17Speaker 1: the end.
- 15:19Speaker 5: It was really cool in Footloose.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought that was a great after I confess.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, the show Whoa, Whoa, you have it?
- 15:28Speaker 4: I wow?
- 15:30Speaker 3: Should we talk about the production that we just did
- 15:33Speaker 3: and like, because we never got to do like a
- 15:34Speaker 3: post mortem?
- 15:36Speaker 7: Yeah, Susicle, Yeah, how do you guys feel like that
- 15:39Speaker 7: production went?
- 15:42Speaker 3: Can?
- 15:42Speaker 7: I It was tough. It was a tough one. I
- 15:44Speaker 7: think we've pulled it off in the end, but Susicle
- 15:47Speaker 7: has a lot of props and a lot of painting
- 15:49Speaker 7: and a lot of light cues, and I felt like
- 15:51Speaker 7: we were under the wire a little bit.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean a lot of that is my
- 15:55Speaker 2: bad because I'm responsible for like building the set, and
- 15:58Speaker 2: like normally there's some freshman like hovering around who I
- 16:01Speaker 2: was kind of like delegated to.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Go to school at the school, right.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm one of those, So it's sort of like
- 16:08Speaker 2: unclear what my job. I've just like I think I'm
- 16:12Speaker 2: just kind of in the inner circle and I'm in
- 16:14Speaker 2: the inner DNA of this theater department so much that
- 16:17Speaker 2: like if I wanted to graduate at some point, I
- 16:20Speaker 2: could if I wanted to take a salary at some point.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I could. Nobody knows, and I refuse to tell anyone
- 16:27Speaker 2: what my exact job is or what my role is.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I could be dating Jen, I could not be. I
- 16:33Speaker 2: could be making forty grand a year. I could not be.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I could be a senior. I could not be. Look,
- 16:42Speaker 2: the story changes every day because I'm high as shit,
- 16:44Speaker 2: but like I'm I like, we just didn't have enough
- 16:47Speaker 2: freshman on flats this year, and so it's like I
- 16:50Speaker 2: can't always like be doing it all on my own
- 16:53Speaker 2: because I have to take my humber to the gas
- 16:56Speaker 2: station and smoke cigarettes and that's something I need medically,
- 17:00Speaker 2: so I like can't be there all the time. So
- 17:03Speaker 2: I will follow the sword a little bit for that.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Like that was my bad, and I won't do it
- 17:08Speaker 2: next time. So sorry if that caused a headache for
- 17:12Speaker 2: anybody else.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Anyway, it was fine.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Can we talk about the fall?
- 17:16Speaker 4: Oh?
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, we should probably talk about the fall, because that's
- 17:20Speaker 2: I mean, like we're being put on the spots thee
- 17:22Speaker 2: elevant in the room. We should probably just.
- 17:24Speaker 5: How has anyone checked in with Sally.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Sally Gertrude in our shows? Yeah, Gertrude from Susicle.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Well, does anybody know what Susicles about?
- 17:36Speaker 3: I have not.
- 17:37Speaker 4: She loves rewriting.
- 17:38Speaker 7: She's just one of those directors that will rewrite and
- 17:40Speaker 7: rewrite and rewrite. So she took the ip of Susical
- 17:43Speaker 7: and made it Hamlet, which was so.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Gertrude Macphus is a character in Susical.
- 17:49Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm sorry, but we should like That's a
- 17:54Speaker 2: big thing with techies, is that, like we don't actually
- 17:57Speaker 2: usually understand the place or know what they're about.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I'm the sage. No, I haveage hands.
- 18:03Speaker 5: I run and I don't have headphones in.
- 18:06Speaker 1: It's me and Dustin. We play chess under there. Just
- 18:08Speaker 1: the chess is in between the box.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Oh, it's also vertical.
- 18:14Speaker 6: There's a sort of sub level in between the two
- 18:17Speaker 6: levels where there's just enough room to place a chess board,
- 18:22Speaker 6: And throughout every production we're engaged in a very intense
- 18:26Speaker 6: chess match. I find that it actually helps me to focus.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Yeah, because you call the cues and we'll be playing.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Right, I call the cues.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Will you say once that all the cues are lined
- 18:38Speaker 2: up on the ceiling like Queen's gambit style.
- 18:40Speaker 6: They are, And sometimes I'm not even sure if they're
- 18:43Speaker 6: actually up there or if it's just all in my head.
- 18:47Speaker 6: But I will call. I will call the cues. I
- 18:49Speaker 6: will call them out as they're happening. I'll be like,
- 18:51Speaker 6: all right, we've got a big light coming up.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yo, go turn off Sally's mic. And that's when
- 18:58Speaker 1: the fall happened.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Let's begin.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Let's talk about the fall. I do. I have checked
- 19:02Speaker 3: in on Sally. She has sustained concussion and she thinks
- 19:05Speaker 3: it's the day of the show every single day.
- 19:07Speaker 2: No, that's so sad. I don't want to be an
- 19:10Speaker 2: actor at all.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Wacked. It is truly spooked.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Dustin. Weren't you and Sally rumored to be talking?
- 19:18Speaker 4: Yeah, because I know you hate talking to girls.
- 19:20Speaker 5: But I heard you just didn't like texting and like flirting.
- 19:24Speaker 6: I'm not sure if what we were doing could be
- 19:27Speaker 6: characterized as flirting. Uh, we were having a conversation. I
- 19:32Speaker 6: was open to flirting.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Well, what did you send her? And what did she
- 19:35Speaker 4: send you?
- 19:36Speaker 6: Well? I sent her a text that said break a
- 19:39Speaker 6: leg tonight.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Okay, that's huge coming from yeah boom booth daddy.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Well, normally I couldn't care less about actors or their performances.
- 19:53Speaker 6: But I did tell Sally to break a leg. Unfortunately
- 19:57Speaker 6: she did, but that was not my intention when I
- 20:01Speaker 6: sent that text. I was merely just trying to initiate
- 20:03Speaker 6: contact with Sally. And that's what six months since Emily.
- 20:08Speaker 3: And I, that's what you told the police.
- 20:11Speaker 6: That is what I told the police, and I'm standing
- 20:13Speaker 6: by it.
- 20:13Speaker 4: What did she say in response?
- 20:15Speaker 6: She sent a heart emoji and said, thanks so much, Dustin.
- 20:22Speaker 6: I hope you don't forget to turn the lights on
- 20:25Speaker 6: when I'm on stage. That's flirting to me, And I
- 20:28Speaker 6: thought that was pretty funny because I would never fuck
- 20:32Speaker 6: something like.
- 20:32Speaker 4: That is like flirting. That sounds like flirting, Dustink.
- 20:37Speaker 5: It's the best ass in our school.
- 20:40Speaker 2: He's the ass master of the techies, like he would
- 20:43Speaker 2: be the ass master.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I would say, so much, you're such an ass, like
- 20:47Speaker 1: you're the ass master, and then miss Lappin smacks my ass.
- 20:52Speaker 3: But I would say to Dustin, I think what's so
- 20:54Speaker 3: mysterious so about you is that you have these really
- 20:59Speaker 3: mature relationships. It seems like you're like the kid in
- 21:03Speaker 3: high school who has the most mature relationships, where it's
- 21:06Speaker 3: like you could have been married to this person for
- 21:07Speaker 3: forty years, but you've just been flirting with them for
- 21:09Speaker 3: a month.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Well, I am you know, I'm sort of an unassuming guy.
- 21:17Speaker 6: I get that no one would pin me as a casanova,
- 21:23Speaker 6: but deep down inside.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not old shit you say all the time.
- 21:26Speaker 2: It's like, this is like, dude, you're sixteen, and that's awesome.
- 21:33Speaker 6: I guess I am a bit of an old soul.
- 21:35Speaker 6: People have said that about me. I don't know.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Do you have the biggest cell phone I've ever seen?
- 21:41Speaker 3: Who's your favorite musician?
- 21:43Speaker 6: My favorite musician is Frank Zappa. That rocks.
- 21:48Speaker 2: That's really I don't know what you're talking about half
- 21:51Speaker 2: the time.
- 21:51Speaker 4: But crazy, it's like the music you play and the
- 21:53Speaker 4: things you do, it's just so cool.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Your favorite movie?
- 21:57Speaker 6: My favorite movie is Casa Blanca.
- 22:05Speaker 2: But I mean, this is a misconception that people have
- 22:08Speaker 2: about you because we probably can't talk about this. But
- 22:12Speaker 2: the theater sleepovers.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Tech night.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, but I think we should
- 22:21Speaker 2: talk about it. When when the cast and the crew
- 22:25Speaker 2: have a sleepover together in the theater, it's usually one
- 22:29Speaker 2: of the techies on the night of the last show
- 22:32Speaker 2: who has the master keys to the building. Aka me.
- 22:36Speaker 2: We open it up and we all have like a
- 22:38Speaker 2: fucking rage or sleepover in there, and you do go
- 22:43Speaker 2: like a little nuts like I do see you like
- 22:46Speaker 2: you are like flip cup champion.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Yeah, and you turn on the charm that night, you
- 22:51Speaker 4: like really do it.
- 22:53Speaker 6: There's a well of youthful exuberance and emotion inside of me.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Ever since puberty, I've just been bursting with still like
- 23:05Speaker 6: a year ago, Yes you all remember my big growth
- 23:09Speaker 6: spurts huge like a foot.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, department, it changed the double booth, bunk booth.
- 23:16Speaker 6: I know it's getting sort of cramped up there on
- 23:18Speaker 6: the top one now that I'm ten inches taller than
- 23:22Speaker 6: I was a year ago. But there are things inside
- 23:26Speaker 6: of me that I just let out. And you know,
- 23:30Speaker 6: being the sort of old you know, the old uh,
- 23:35Speaker 6: the old pro in the tech on the Tech team,
- 23:39Speaker 6: I feel like I have to, you know, be professional
- 23:43Speaker 6: and be on my game. But every now and then
- 23:47Speaker 6: when we have something like Tech the Theater sleepover, I uh,
- 23:52Speaker 6: I go wild. My my puberty just takes hold of me.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And that's what you said when the shroom's kicked in,
- 24:05Speaker 2: is my puberty takes a hold of me.
- 24:07Speaker 7: This is a pretty crazy party because it's both like
- 24:10Speaker 7: very very kind of kiddish and also very.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Very adult, like everybody's on different levels.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Frights, and then there's hard drinks.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Half the people do spin the bottle and half the
- 24:21Speaker 2: people are playing cards in the corner.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Yeah, like we do jazz and some.
- 24:27Speaker 5: People watch Jeopardy in the corner, and I give.
- 24:30Speaker 3: People stick and poke tattoos in the corner.
- 24:35Speaker 6: You you were at the most recent one, you were
- 24:38Speaker 6: kissing a lot.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I was kissing a lot well that I'm open for
- 24:42Speaker 3: business and said, anyone come up, and three people came up.
- 24:45Speaker 7: Well, that's kind of crazy because you're kind of the
- 24:46Speaker 7: gateway between us and the cast, Like you kind of
- 24:50Speaker 7: play both sides.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Like I'm a tech. I'm a tech.
- 24:54Speaker 7: I don't really talk to the theater people. The only
- 24:57Speaker 7: real person I talked to is the girls. You're talking
- 24:59Speaker 7: to that every once in a while you'll allow in
- 25:01Speaker 7: the booth, and like this whole honor that happens that
- 25:04Speaker 7: you'll allow an actress in the booth.
- 25:07Speaker 6: But yeah, that's kind of like a big step. When
- 25:11Speaker 6: I allow someone into my booth, I need to trust
- 25:17Speaker 6: them unconditionally that they're not going to touch anything or
- 25:21Speaker 6: mess anything up in there.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you scared me one time, dude, because I came
- 25:25Speaker 2: up there to like try and find I couldn't find
- 25:26Speaker 2: a I left my switchblade somewhere, and so I was
- 25:30Speaker 2: trying to see if it was up there for some reason,
- 25:32Speaker 2: if maybe you borrowed it, and you like growled at
- 25:36Speaker 2: me in such a way. It was so intense and
- 25:40Speaker 2: so scary that I was like, whoa, dude, I won't
- 25:43Speaker 2: I won't come up here again, that's right.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Unfortunately, I have to set strong boundaries. And when you
- 25:52Speaker 6: entered my booth without without permission, I immediately saw red.
- 25:59Speaker 6: I saw this person and is threatening to undermine everything
- 26:02Speaker 6: I've worked for four years to build here. And I'm
- 26:06Speaker 6: sorry it came out that way, but so you know
- 26:09Speaker 6: that I respect you, chunk, and you've been here the
- 26:11Speaker 6: whole time I've been here and longer and a lot
- 26:15Speaker 6: since time immemorial, as far as I'm concerned, and I
- 26:17Speaker 6: can't imagine this place without you. Yeah, your roles that
- 26:21Speaker 6: I had to enforce, and I'm so sorry about that.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And I don't take it personal or anything like. I
- 26:26Speaker 2: just I you know, I respect your space, and uh,
- 26:30Speaker 2: I get I won't do it anymore.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I just uh, you know, but yeah, like dazy on
- 26:35Speaker 3: you chunk. I mean he went waysy on you.
- 26:37Speaker 6: You know.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I was there for Cassidy. You know, she's she's just
- 26:40Speaker 3: one of our best answers. And she went into the
- 26:42Speaker 3: booth because she needed some gum. She took some of
- 26:44Speaker 3: your gum, and you screamed her so much she almost
- 26:46Speaker 3: moved to another school. She was so upset. I was
- 26:50Speaker 3: her shoulder to cry on, because, as you said, I
- 26:52Speaker 3: am a walker between worlds. I know no realm.
- 26:54Speaker 4: I love.
- 26:55Speaker 2: She had just been cast as a mom again and
- 26:57Speaker 2: it was like really starting to mess with herself, like
- 27:00Speaker 2: we were hooking up for a little bit, and she
- 27:02Speaker 2: told me a lot about that.
- 27:03Speaker 1: So I remember I want to spend Dustin really quickly
- 27:07Speaker 1: because I was I'm there all the time when Dustin
- 27:10Speaker 1: uses his fucking shit and no, Dustin has said time
- 27:15Speaker 1: and time again, don't touch the gum up there, because
- 27:19Speaker 1: that's our gum.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Don't touch the gun.
- 27:21Speaker 3: But you have to understand, like techies can understand that,
- 27:23Speaker 3: but actors have a different like law, like they gum
- 27:28Speaker 3: for them is more necessitated than it is for us.
- 27:32Speaker 3: So it's like we have to help out actors when
- 27:34Speaker 3: they need gum. They have to have gum.
- 27:36Speaker 1: But also us Cassidy is just being stupid because she
- 27:40Speaker 1: is taller and she should play the moms.
- 27:44Speaker 8: So but she's a dancer, like she should do so
- 27:47Speaker 8: much more, Like and I talked to her all the time,
- 27:48Speaker 8: and I'm trying to lift her up, Like if you
- 27:51Speaker 8: guys could talk to her a little bit more and
- 27:53Speaker 8: help her lift up, like I don't think that she
- 27:56Speaker 8: deserves that, Like she doesn't want to play care.
- 27:58Speaker 3: She's nervous. She's gonna get f hold because she played
- 28:03Speaker 3: Albert Peterson's mom and by Viberty last year. She's nervous.
- 28:06Speaker 3: She's gonna plame moms the rest of her life. And
- 28:08Speaker 3: I understand that.
- 28:09Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I just I feel like I don't love
- 28:12Speaker 7: her because like when she's on stage, she's moving so much,
- 28:15Speaker 7: and following her is a full time.
- 28:17Speaker 4: Job following her.
- 28:18Speaker 3: She's a dancer.
- 28:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I know, she moves like a dancer and it's
- 28:21Speaker 7: stressful up there. It's like if I if I don't
- 28:23Speaker 7: hit her with the spotlight, people are gonna think shit
- 28:27Speaker 7: about me.
- 28:27Speaker 4: They're gonna be talking.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I'll be honest, dude, if this comforts you at night,
- 28:31Speaker 2: I don't think people are thinking about you at all.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Well, I don't know if that's true.
- 28:33Speaker 7: I think people really know, like if a spotlight doesn't
- 28:36Speaker 7: hit a spot you'd notice.
- 28:38Speaker 1: And also a shadow I don't appreciate at the theater
- 28:41Speaker 1: lock in sleepover, when I ask for you to give
- 28:44Speaker 1: me a tattoo of a soda, can you actually just
- 28:47Speaker 1: stick and poked apologize to Cassidy on my wrist.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I didn't remember that forever. You'll remember that forever that
- 28:54Speaker 3: you didn't apologize to Cassidy for what you've done to her.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Dustin's been very clear and we have every right to
- 28:59Speaker 5: rip that men a new shred.
- 29:01Speaker 6: It's very simple. Don't touch my booth. This is rule
- 29:05Speaker 6: number one. Rule number two. Don't take our gum. Don't
- 29:09Speaker 6: know how I could make it any simpler than that.
- 29:11Speaker 6: And I'm starting to wonder whose side are you on,
- 29:14Speaker 6: actors or texts.
- 29:16Speaker 3: I am on the side of the darkness. I am
- 29:18Speaker 3: on the side of the shadows. I'm on the side
- 29:21Speaker 3: of the opposite of light, No but shadow.
- 29:23Speaker 1: We have a show to do, so, like on night one,
- 29:27Speaker 1: we have opening night. Whose side are you on? Because
- 29:30Speaker 1: darkness isn't in the theater that night.
- 29:32Speaker 3: I feel like I'm being attacked and I do not
- 29:34Speaker 3: like this. I do not like this one bit.
- 29:37Speaker 9: What I will say is that this division that you
- 29:39Speaker 9: guys are causing, the reason why there is so much
- 29:42Speaker 9: strife and unarrests in the department is probably because we
- 29:46Speaker 9: are causing divides.
- 29:48Speaker 3: We are two households, both alike indignity. We're both alike indignity.
- 29:54Speaker 3: That's the first line of shak a spear. That's the
- 29:57Speaker 3: first line. And the thing is that's he says it beginning.
- 30:00Speaker 3: We're alike, right, and that's big. We're alike, and so
- 30:05Speaker 3: we need to know that, like between the actors and
- 30:08Speaker 3: the techies, we're all doing the same thing. And I
- 30:11Speaker 3: think you guys need to get a hold of yourselves,
- 30:14Speaker 3: and I think you need to realize that it's not
- 30:17Speaker 3: us versus them, it's us with them. Okay, wow, wow.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Wow, Yeah, I mean yeah, hell yeah, I guess yeah, sure,
- 30:30Speaker 2: I didn't know you felt that strongly.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Sorry to make my little devil horns come out, but
- 30:35Speaker 3: that's what it is.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Let's move on from susical. Let's talk about our fall
- 30:39Speaker 5: musical that we did Let's do a bit.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Yeah, we talked about her fault. Now let's talk about
- 30:42Speaker 4: the Fall.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Yeah, let's talk about the Fall musical.
- 30:46Speaker 6: That was.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, let's talk about Hairspray.
- 30:48Speaker 5: It was incredible production.
- 30:49Speaker 3: I can't believe Miss laugh And made us do Hairspray
- 30:52Speaker 3: and then Susical. Those are massive productions.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like built, I built so many I
- 31:00Speaker 2: can't even believe it. I don't know where they're getting
- 31:03Speaker 2: the budget for this stuff. Well, Jenn always says, don't
- 31:06Speaker 2: worry about it, like she's got something, like she has
- 31:09Speaker 2: some deal worked out, like outside of the district that
- 31:12Speaker 2: she's getting in all these like elaborate sets, and we
- 31:15Speaker 2: don't know how she's doing it.
- 31:17Speaker 7: But this is gonna be really cool because I think
- 31:19Speaker 7: she wants us to build a rotating stage. We got
- 31:22Speaker 7: to build a rotating stage this year, and that's gonna
- 31:24Speaker 7: be really.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Really fun.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Yeah, we don't have the capabilities.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Like I'm sorry to be the first one to say it,
- 31:30Speaker 1: but I think it's absolutely crazy that miss Lappin is
- 31:33Speaker 1: like trying to make her Broadway dreams come true. We're
- 31:36Speaker 1: a small, small school in the corner of Pasadena.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Wild that she put that she cast herself.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Yeah, she cast herself.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Our theater is also a cafeteria, Like it's it's crazy
- 31:48Speaker 3: to build a revolving stage in a cafeteria.
- 31:50Speaker 4: It's gonna mess with lunch for sure.
- 31:54Speaker 6: It's just not cool. No, I am weary to hear
- 31:58Speaker 6: how disheartened you all are at the prospects of pulling
- 32:01Speaker 6: off this production?
- 32:03Speaker 4: Are we not? Text?
- 32:05Speaker 2: My favorite part about being a techie is that half
- 32:08Speaker 2: of us talk like medieval lords.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Like some talk about Red Fair really quick. We love
- 32:15Speaker 4: going to Red Fair.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Talk about you guys have that.
- 32:21Speaker 4: It is really interesting.
- 32:22Speaker 7: It's like half of us are kind of like I guess,
- 32:24Speaker 7: like really cool, and then half of us are kind
- 32:27Speaker 7: of nerds.
- 32:27Speaker 3: I love Renfair. Everyone that works there knows me.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I bet they do. I heard you were conceived
- 32:34Speaker 2: at a Renfair.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Yes, that's the lure.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Every year I try to get into the ren Fair
- 32:40Speaker 1: without paying for it because I'm broke as ship.
- 32:42Speaker 5: So I go in through the trash cans.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Well, it's crazy, what hold on?
- 32:47Speaker 5: I put my body in a trash can.
- 32:48Speaker 6: I roll in, so they so when they take the
- 32:52Speaker 6: trash out and then the garbage men empty out the cans.
- 32:57Speaker 6: Then you get into the cans.
- 32:59Speaker 4: And wait, and that's classic ren Fair going like oh,
- 33:03Speaker 4: rolling trash a can normal.
- 33:05Speaker 5: Yeah, never had to pay a goddamn life, Jovidor.
- 33:09Speaker 7: I will say, it's amazing to see Dustin at the Redfair.
- 33:11Speaker 7: This as Maaster strikes again.
- 33:13Speaker 5: It's like every girl you talk to the lady with
- 33:16Speaker 5: a beard, didn't.
- 33:17Speaker 3: You you're a regular, don Juan uh.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Renfair was difficult for me. I will say. There were
- 33:26Speaker 6: so many different maidens throwing themselves at me, and I
- 33:31Speaker 6: did not know, I'll be honest. Even for me, I
- 33:36Speaker 6: did not know how to handle it. I did not
- 33:39Speaker 6: want to dash any of their expectations or lead any
- 33:45Speaker 6: of them astray.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Yeah. I think for like weeks following that ren Fair,
- 33:50Speaker 2: I remember like because I'm I'm there later than everybody
- 33:53Speaker 2: else a lot of the time if I if I
- 33:55Speaker 2: don't dip, and they're kept being these like women who
- 34:00Speaker 2: would like come to the theater and they'd be like
- 34:03Speaker 2: can you can you pass this along? And it would
- 34:05Speaker 2: be these like love limericks to you, like I got
- 34:08Speaker 2: a pocket like full of I still have to give
- 34:10Speaker 2: you some of them, like full of these limericks once
- 34:13Speaker 2: I got for him. Okay, this one says it's so
- 34:18Speaker 2: hard to read because these women are so good at calligraphy.
- 34:21Speaker 5: But these women.
- 34:24Speaker 2: There there once was a Dustin from theater. He loved me,
- 34:33Speaker 2: and so I sat nearer to him close.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Maybe that's just.
- 34:41Speaker 2: He put on his shirt and then we did flirt,
- 34:46Speaker 2: and away we did sneer at the at sneering to
- 34:50Speaker 2: each other. At least, it's think I think that's what
- 34:54Speaker 2: it says. Again, written in Old English, very rough calligraphy.
- 34:59Speaker 2: So I don't know. I mean, you can have these
- 35:01Speaker 2: if you want.
- 35:01Speaker 6: Yes, I treasure them. I will add them to my
- 35:06Speaker 6: box of Renfair Limericks, sonnets and other poems.
- 35:15Speaker 2: What do you want to do when I'm sorry?
- 35:17Speaker 6: Oh, I was just gonna say. I go through each
- 35:19Speaker 6: one each night before bed.
- 35:22Speaker 5: I know, because I'm sleeping below you in the booth.
- 35:26Speaker 5: Oh you guys not know that.
- 35:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I've also been sleeping in the booth lately.
- 35:30Speaker 5: What me and Dustin have been sleeping in the booth.
- 35:32Speaker 2: You guys are workaholics.
- 35:34Speaker 4: You guys won't quit. We're in off season right now.
- 35:37Speaker 2: What do you guys want to do when you graduate? Like?
- 35:40Speaker 2: Does anyone want to do this.
- 35:41Speaker 4: What are you going to do in college? Dustin?
- 35:43Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a rumor going around you're going to Harvard.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And there's also a roomor going around you're going to war.
- 35:50Speaker 6: What is it?
- 35:51Speaker 3: Dustin?
- 35:53Speaker 2: Which one?
- 35:55Speaker 6: I thought I was going to Harvard?
- 35:59Speaker 5: No, dust you didn't get drafted after you got it armored?
- 36:03Speaker 6: No, no, No that I received a letter in the mail. No, no,
- 36:11Speaker 6: it's military, No, no, no, saying that I had been
- 36:16Speaker 6: called to answer the call?
- 36:20Speaker 3: What call?
- 36:20Speaker 4: What war?
- 36:23Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 36:26Speaker 6: As far as I understand, we are as a country
- 36:30Speaker 6: have our finger in many pies overseas.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Which par are you going to?
- 36:36Speaker 4: They haven't told me yet us Are you going to
- 36:40Speaker 4: give up lighting? Are you going to try to light
- 36:41Speaker 4: the war?
- 36:42Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I wonder because I haven't heard of a draft going on,
- 36:48Speaker 2: so it's crazy.
- 36:49Speaker 6: That I had it.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Seems like you'vepped it.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Specifically, Yeah, you might have aged out of it.
- 36:56Speaker 6: The draft I have. They've drafted me, said we need
- 37:00Speaker 6: your services, and they said you can't go to Harvard anymore.
- 37:06Speaker 6: And I said, oh no, I was going to go
- 37:10Speaker 6: to Harvard and get a PhD in lights, not lighting,
- 37:15Speaker 6: just lights, lights, bulbs bulbs, electrons, photons, and.
- 37:29Speaker 2: The original light. So did you drool about this at all?
- 37:33Speaker 6: Or are you okay all night? My pillow was damp
- 37:38Speaker 6: when I woke up, but not the part of my
- 37:42Speaker 6: pillow that's near my eyes. The part of my pillow
- 37:44Speaker 6: that's near Yeah. Sleep. I'm so scared, but I have
- 37:52Speaker 6: to answer the call.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Because you're a good American. We all are. We're all libertarian, right.
- 37:57Speaker 5: Yeah, okay? What's her one's favorite show we've done?
- 38:06Speaker 2: M hmmmm. I liked uh Waiting for Good O because
- 38:12Speaker 2: I didn't have to do shit.
- 38:16Speaker 6: That was a good one. There weren't a lot of
- 38:18Speaker 6: people on stage, so it was mostly just lights.
- 38:21Speaker 4: Yeah, that was I didn't like it. It was just spotlight.
- 38:24Speaker 7: Second Spotlight had a lot to do, so I was nervous.
- 38:28Speaker 7: I kind of broke under the pressure.
- 38:31Speaker 5: Miss Lappin did its site specific too, and she did
- 38:33Speaker 5: in the Principal's.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Office because it takes place in a principal's office.
- 38:38Speaker 5: Site specific.
- 38:39Speaker 1: It was an adaptation. I think my favorite was when
- 38:44Speaker 1: we did Peter panm Butty in the Beast. We didn't
- 38:46Speaker 1: have enough money for either, right, so mis Lappin did
- 38:49Speaker 1: like a two for one so first act Peter Pan,
- 38:51Speaker 1: second act Beauting the Beast.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the same with mashup music. If you mashed
- 38:55Speaker 3: up a play, you don't have to pay for the
- 38:56Speaker 3: rights of either.
- 38:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:57Speaker 5: So I I really enjoyed that because that was all
- 39:00Speaker 5: all hands on deck.
- 39:02Speaker 1: And that that was when we were all really really busy,
- 39:05Speaker 1: we were really really tired, and it brought us all together.
- 39:08Speaker 5: And that, I'll say is how I got my name Soda.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I took two soda cans and I was so upset
- 39:13Speaker 1: and I thought there were my sunglasses and I mushed
- 39:15Speaker 1: them up to my face.
- 39:17Speaker 4: There's the story. Gross. Gross.
- 39:20Speaker 5: Yeah. So I love that play.
- 39:25Speaker 6: I like it.
- 39:26Speaker 3: The Crucible that was my favorite. It was dark, the
- 39:30Speaker 3: spirits were clearly with us.
- 39:33Speaker 4: You like it because you got a part in it.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Yes, I played Tituba the Witch.
- 39:43Speaker 2: But Jen had to like beg you to do it.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Yes, it was thrilling. They couldn't find somebody with the
- 39:55Speaker 3: jena sequa that comes with being a witch, and so
- 39:59Speaker 3: the I had to go with me, and they did
- 40:02Speaker 3: beg me. I had her ask me nasty things. I
- 40:07Speaker 3: had her say things that no one would ever say
- 40:11Speaker 3: to someone, like what like what I had her say
- 40:14Speaker 3: things like there's mud in my bones.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I thought miss Lappin's productive role of John Proctor was
- 40:23Speaker 1: really good with you.
- 40:24Speaker 3: I'm really I thought she was amazing. She is a
- 40:28Speaker 3: much more talented actress than she is director, so I'm
- 40:30Speaker 3: glad she's giving her some opportunity.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Well, she auditioned all she auditioned everybody in the department,
- 40:36Speaker 2: and apparently like none of them were good enough. I
- 40:38Speaker 2: don't know. All the theater kids were like bitching about
- 40:40Speaker 2: this the other day, and I'm like, you guys are
- 40:42Speaker 2: taking this word too seriously. Like I can't imagine Carrie.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I don't envy them at all, Like they seem so
- 40:47Speaker 2: stressed out, Like they seem like their buttoles are just
- 40:49Speaker 2: like so tight about everything. Everyone's like the yeah, running
- 40:53Speaker 2: up to that cast list.
- 40:54Speaker 7: It's like they're just so excitable. They're just like all
- 40:56Speaker 7: singing and dancing, and it's just like calmed down a
- 40:59Speaker 7: little bit.
- 40:59Speaker 3: No, they can be appropriately excited. You cannot disparage actors.
- 41:06Speaker 3: It shows on the stage.
- 41:07Speaker 5: Whose side do you want?
- 41:09Speaker 3: I'm on both, right, I'm on neither. I'm telling you all, Okay,
- 41:13Speaker 3: I'm going to college to be an actor.
- 41:16Speaker 4: Oh where what's school?
- 41:19Speaker 6: Shadow?
- 41:19Speaker 4: Oh it's gotta be but shadow shadow?
- 41:23Speaker 2: What?
- 41:24Speaker 3: How?
- 41:25Speaker 6: How can you be an actor?
- 41:27Speaker 3: Got into a college Louisiana state to.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Be an actor?
- 41:32Speaker 2: You know we live in the valley, so this is
- 41:34Speaker 2: Los Angeles. You're going all the way over there.
- 41:37Speaker 6: Yes, I'm being offered a quarter ride issue quarter ride,
- 41:41Speaker 6: quarter ride off of out of state.
- 41:44Speaker 3: They see potential and me more potential than other people
- 41:48Speaker 3: have seen. And I have no allegiance. I have no
- 41:51Speaker 3: allegiance to anyone I love. I live among the shadow.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Did you have to audition or could you just kind
- 41:55Speaker 2: of go?
- 41:56Speaker 3: I just had to apply, Okay, I had descend in
- 42:00Speaker 3: a letter of interest.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Application.
- 42:05Speaker 2: You do not have to apply to the FAPSA.
- 42:07Speaker 3: You do not be jealous of me?
- 42:09Speaker 6: Good that shadow when you played, but you insisted that
- 42:14Speaker 6: the part of the stage that you are on be
- 42:16Speaker 6: shrouded in darkness. How can you be an actor when
- 42:19Speaker 6: you're so.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Afraid to be seen?
- 42:22Speaker 4: Just loud and angry. It's like he's screaming at Cassidy again.
- 42:26Speaker 6: Cassidy put down that gum.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Now he's having PTSD.
- 42:31Speaker 6: Sorry my puberty.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Ah, you see he went for a second puberty.
- 42:41Speaker 3: He can hear so long?
- 42:45Speaker 2: How did this happen?
- 42:47Speaker 4: Dude?
- 42:47Speaker 6: You read I'm a beast.
- 42:51Speaker 4: I'm a beast.
- 42:52Speaker 3: That's why they're sending me to war. It's because I'm
- 42:56Speaker 3: good for nothing else.
- 42:58Speaker 6: I used to be in control my emotions, and now
- 43:01Speaker 6: I've lost it.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Trustin, you're so cool.
- 43:05Speaker 3: The darkness has taken hold. They whispered to me that
- 43:09Speaker 3: this would happen to you.
- 43:10Speaker 2: No, no, they no, Please don't.
- 43:12Speaker 6: What are you saying, shadow?
- 43:14Speaker 3: No, I'm saying you have to fight. You have to
- 43:17Speaker 3: fight for your soul. Trust me. It's too late for me.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I'm off to Louisiana, But for you, reckon with it.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Don't live among the shadows if you.
- 43:28Speaker 4: Do not have to.
- 43:30Speaker 1: All of a sudden, I feel this bullshit. You guys
- 43:33Speaker 1: are talking and I feel it strong. Fight it, dustn't fight.
- 43:37Speaker 3: It, fight it fight what?
- 43:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 43:40Speaker 6: Exactly, I only feel the urge to fight, but I
- 43:43Speaker 6: don't know what.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Man, You're perfect for the army. You were absolutely perfect,
- 43:49Speaker 2: So that makes total sense.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Did you I want to learn about fire and bulbs?
- 43:56Speaker 5: You should learn about fire.
- 43:57Speaker 4: He wants to beachd in light.
- 44:00Speaker 6: I want a PhD in light.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Dustin, I'm in love with you.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Oh, whoa, soda.
- 44:06Speaker 5: I'm in love with you, Dustn't and must. I just
- 44:09Speaker 5: want to say something. I wrote those limericks.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I was covering for her. It was not weird women, it.
- 44:18Speaker 4: Was it was just you.
- 44:20Speaker 5: I slipped this forty year old at joint and she
- 44:23Speaker 5: did it.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I'm in love with you, and that's why I told
- 44:26Speaker 1: Cassie to get gum, because I knew it was you
- 44:28Speaker 1: would make you hate her, and.
- 44:31Speaker 3: I just I can't have you go away, Dustin. The
- 44:36Speaker 3: secret to banishing darkness is love soda.
- 44:44Speaker 6: All this time I had no idea, but yet you
- 44:49Speaker 6: were right under my nose, literally, because I was above
- 44:55Speaker 6: you in the bunk booth. Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Who do you think brought that bunk bed up there
- 45:00Speaker 1: to that booth? No theater teacher would do that.
- 45:03Speaker 4: I did that.
- 45:04Speaker 7: That was you.
- 45:05Speaker 6: You knew I was going through a hard time and
- 45:07Speaker 6: was gonna have to sleep in the booth after I
- 45:09Speaker 6: found out I was being drafted to war.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:11Speaker 1: I didn't know exactly that you'd be drafted. That broke
- 45:14Speaker 1: my heart, But I did want to bring a bed
- 45:16Speaker 1: in there so we could fuck.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Whoa, Oh my god, this is so intense. I need
- 45:20Speaker 2: you guys to just go to the finger bang closet
- 45:22Speaker 2: and like get this over with. You gotta get this
- 45:25Speaker 2: over with.
- 45:25Speaker 4: I guess my favorite show that we've done was.
- 45:29Speaker 7: Little Shop Offenses, where we did half a Little Shop
- 45:32Speaker 7: and half offenses.
- 45:33Speaker 3: That was a cursed mawsh up.
- 45:35Speaker 6: You did a really good job on the props.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 45:39Speaker 6: I was so proud of you.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 45:41Speaker 5: I'll never forget this talk. I'm so glad we finally
- 45:44Speaker 5: sat down and we all talked and we just aired
- 45:46Speaker 5: it out.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Oh my god, I just got a text from my doctor.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Apparently I have to get a colonoscopy because I'm fifty
- 45:53Speaker 2: years old.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Oh my, you're gif me.
- 45:56Speaker 2: I just turned fifty. I guess I haven't really been
- 45:59Speaker 2: keeping track. Wow, Honestly, time just keeps going. I don't know.
- 46:03Speaker 7: Okay, great, so we know whatever he's kind of doing.
- 46:05Speaker 7: I'm continuing on with high school. You're going to Louisiana,
- 46:09Speaker 7: You're going to war. You're already get a colonoscopy, and
- 46:11Speaker 7: you're trying to have sex with him.
- 46:13Speaker 5: I'll follow Dustin wherever he goes.
- 46:15Speaker 4: So you're also going to war. Awesome.
- 46:18Speaker 6: No, I'm not going to war.
- 46:22Speaker 3: What dustin.
- 46:24Speaker 6: I'm staying right here.
- 46:26Speaker 3: I love has emerged you from the darkness.
- 46:29Speaker 4: I don't think you can do that.
- 46:30Speaker 6: I'll dessert if I have to. The two sides of
- 46:35Speaker 6: puberty are one this blind rage, this urge to fight.
- 46:42Speaker 6: But the other is the emotional maturity to know when
- 46:49Speaker 6: love is right in front of you. His armpit hair,
- 46:53Speaker 6: it's receding, Soda, I love you too.
- 47:00Speaker 2: He just shrunk by eight inches.
- 47:03Speaker 6: I always have Oh no, oh no, he's touch buttoning.
- 47:10Speaker 6: I love you, Soda. You're the only thing that's saving
- 47:13Speaker 6: me them.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Oh my god, he's going into a cocoon.
- 47:15Speaker 5: Doesn't know the only thing.
- 47:16Speaker 6: That's saving me from from being a ten foot tall brute.
- 47:21Speaker 2: It's too hard.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Hatch just a hatch, like like something right now, like something,
- 47:27Speaker 3: get a little taller, shoost.
- 47:30Speaker 7: Somebody's underlighting with a yellow Yeah, somebody used a yellow light.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Yellow.
- 47:36Speaker 5: All are good, that's good.
- 47:37Speaker 6: You can't use yellow. Yellow is not the primary colors
- 47:42Speaker 6: of light. Yellow is not one of those lights.
- 47:45Speaker 3: This is why he needs to go to school for light.
- 47:48Speaker 6: God, when I have a PhD in lights, I won't
- 47:52Speaker 6: be dealing with amateurs like you. Are you sure you're ready?
- 47:55Speaker 6: To take the reins.
- 47:56Speaker 4: I saved your life, guys.
- 47:58Speaker 5: It just got a text this lappen died.
- 48:02Speaker 3: What I knew that the spirits told me, No, they didn't.
- 48:07Speaker 4: This has been artists and artist and artists on ours
- 48:09Speaker 4: answer the question. Now. That's why we call it show biz.
- 48:12Speaker 4: Good Night.
