- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:06to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host, Anna McGivern for November 5th.
- 0:12Today is Love Your Red Hair Day and it's also National Redhead
- 0:16Day, celebration of those gorgeous fiery locks that belong
- 0:20to only about 1 to 2% of the world's population.
- 0:25Redheads are truly rare gems. Natural red hair is caused by a
- 0:29mutation in the MC1R gene, which is a recessive trait.
- 0:36Both parents must carry the gene for a child to be born with red
- 0:39hair, making it one of the rarest colors in the world.
- 0:44Throughout history, redheads have been everything from
- 0:47revered to feared, celebrated to stigmatized.
- 0:51In ancient Rome, red hair was seen as a sign of moral
- 0:55degeneration. During the Spanish Inquisition,
- 0:59red hair was considered evidence of having stolen the fires of
- 1:02hell. But thankfully, we've evolved.
- 1:06Today, red hair is celebrated as unique, beautiful, and
- 1:09distinctive. From literary heroines like Anne
- 1:13of Green Gables to powerful historical figures like Queen
- 1:16Elizabeth, the first redheads have made their mark.
- 1:21They're associated with passion, creativity, independence, and
- 1:24spirit, and science backs up their uniqueness.
- 1:29Redheads feel pain differently, They don't go Gray the same way,
- 1:33and they can even produce their own vitamin D more efficiently
- 1:38in low light conditions. And I didn't know that one.
- 1:42Love Your Red Hair Day and National Redhead Day are about
- 1:45celebrating what makes redheads special.
- 1:48Not just their distinctive appearance, but the confidence,
- 1:52individuality and vibrant spirit that often comes with those
- 1:55copper colored crowns. And that brings us to today's
- 1:59quote that gets to the heart of what makes redhead special.
- 2:04Augustine Burroughs once said red hair is great.
- 2:09It's rare and therefore superior.
- 2:14This quote couldn't be more true.
- 2:16But what about this one from Mark Twain?
- 2:20While the rest of the species is descended from apes, redheads
- 2:26are descended from cats. You know what?
- 2:32This one makes a lot of sense too.
- 2:34And finally, another quote from an unknown author.
- 2:38Red hair is not just a color, it's a lifestyle.
- 2:43These simple statements capture something profound about having
- 2:46red hair. It's not merely physical
- 2:49characteristics, it's an identity, an experience, a cat
- 2:55like way of moving through the world.
- 2:58When you have red hair, you stand out.
- 3:01You can't blend into a crowd. You're noticed, remembered,
- 3:05commented upon. From childhood onward, redheads
- 3:09learn that they're different, and they have a choice.
- 3:13Either shrink from that difference or embrace it fully.
- 3:17Most redheads choose to embrace it.
- 3:20They develop confidence early because they have to.
- 3:24They learn to own their distinctiveness, to turn heads
- 3:28turning into an advantage, to transform different into
- 3:33distinctive. Red hair becomes a part of their
- 3:37identity in ways that other hair colors rarely do.
- 3:41No one introduces them as that brunette over there, but
- 3:44redheads are often the redhead. It becomes shorthand for their
- 3:50entire presence, and rather than resenting this, most redheads
- 3:56wear it as a badge of honor. The lifestyle part of the third
- 4:01quote acknowledges that being a redhead comes with its own
- 4:04culture, the shared experiences of sun sensitivity, freckles
- 4:09that appear like constellations, the endless Anne of Green Gables
- 4:13references, and the assumption of a fiery temperament.
- 4:18Redheads find each other in crowds.
- 4:21They bond over their shared experiences.
- 4:24They form a community of the rare and remarkable.
- 4:28Now I can relate to these quotes because today is my twin
- 4:33daughter's birthday and they both have the most vibrant,
- 4:38beautiful red hair you've ever seen.
- 4:41Watching them grow up with red hair has been fascinating.
- 4:46From the time they were toddlers, people would stop us
- 4:48everywhere we went. Look at that gorgeous red hair.
- 4:53Are they twins and both redheads?
- 4:57How lucky? Where did they get that
- 5:01beautiful color? At first, when they were very
- 5:05young, they didn't understand why people always commented on
- 5:07their hair. But as they got older, something
- 5:12happened. They didn't just accept being
- 5:15redheads, They claimed it. They owned it.
- 5:19They learned early that they would always stand out.
- 5:22So they decided to make standing out their superpower.
- 5:26Their red hair became a source of pride and confidence.
- 5:30When other kids might have felt self-conscious about being
- 5:33different, my girls understood that different meant special.
- 5:40Now, as they celebrate another birthday on Love Your Red Hair
- 5:43Day, I see how their hair color has become intertwined with who
- 5:48they are. Bold, confident,
- 5:52unapologetically themselves. It truly is a lifestyle.
- 5:57It's taught them to embrace what makes them unique, to walk into
- 6:01any room with presents, then never apologize for taking up
- 6:05space or being noticed. Happy birthday and my beautiful
- 6:10redhead daughters, You've taught me that the rarest things in
- 6:14life are often the most precious.
- 6:17So here's your challenge today for Love Your Red Hair day.
- 6:21If you're a redhead, celebrate yourself today.
- 6:25Wear your hair proudly, take a photo, share your ginger pride
- 6:29with the world. Remember that you're part of an
- 6:32exclusive club less than 2% of the global population.
- 6:37If you love a redhead, a partner, a friend, a child, a
- 6:41sibling, tell them today how special they are.
- 6:45Celebrate what makes them unique.
- 6:48Thank them for adding vibrant color to your world.
- 6:51And for everyone else, take a moment to appreciate the
- 6:54redheads in your life. They're rare treasures.
- 6:58Walk in reminders that different is beautiful, that standing out
- 7:01is powerful, and that the things that make us unique are the
- 7:05things that make us unforgettable.
- 7:08Because red hair isn't just a color.
- 7:11It's confidence. It's character.
- 7:14It's a celebration of being unapologetically, brilliantly,
- 7:18fiercely yourself. And to my beautiful red headed
- 7:23birthday girl. You light up my world more than
- 7:26you'll ever know. That's going to do it for today.
- 7:31I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 7:37tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 7:43with another daily quote. What's up?
