- 0:07Welcome to Evolving with Elle, where a capable
- 0:13woman recognizes what she's managing, understands the responsibilities
- 0:19that she's carrying, and chooses self-honoring over
- 0:23self-abandonment, and decides to continue, change, or
- 0:29release.
- 0:31I am Elle.
- 0:32I bring the mirror, the map, and the
- 0:35method.
- 0:35You choose how you show up in a
- 0:39way that honors your capacity.
- 0:42So let's lean in, learn, and evolve together.
- 0:49My vision for our world is one where
- 0:56we are human beings that understand each other's
- 1:02humanity.
- 1:03We are not asking each other to live
- 1:09based on how we expect other people to
- 1:12live, because Oscar Wilde, I love his definition
- 1:18of what it means to be selfish.
- 1:23And it blew my mind when I found
- 1:26it.
- 1:26So in a nutshell, what Oscar Wilde was
- 1:30saying is that if I, Elle, tell you
- 1:36how to live, that is what is selfish.
- 1:41But if I live the way I choose
- 1:45to live, that's not selfish.
- 1:49And that is what I want in this
- 1:54world for us to really understand what selfishness
- 1:57is, for us to live based on how
- 2:02we want to live in relationship to ourselves
- 2:07and to others.
- 2:09Because as I've shared with you, I value
- 2:13connection, compassion, and love, and love being treating
- 2:18people the way we wanna be treated.
- 2:23And I have a very strong hunch that
- 2:28we don't want to be defined by the
- 2:34roles that we carry, whether it is a
- 2:37gendered role or being a parent, a spouse,
- 2:42an employee, a business owner, we are more
- 2:46than just those roles.
- 2:49But we get to bring our unique, genuine
- 2:53selves into those roles.
- 2:56And that is my dream for this world,
- 3:01my vision.
- 3:02And a major part of that is that
- 3:05as the adults, once we get clear on
- 3:10being able to bring our full selves into
- 3:12every aspect of our lives, we also get
- 3:17to create a structure and safety for our
- 3:22children to do the same, to honor who
- 3:26they are, that spark that they were born
- 3:29with, instead of burdening them with, hey, I'm
- 3:33protecting you from my pain.
- 3:36Really?
- 3:37So let's not do that.
- 3:39So that is my vision for this world,
- 3:43is for us to live from a place
- 3:46of our unique, genuine selves.
- 3:52What I call our core essence, and core
- 3:57being C-O-R, which is in Latin,
- 4:01heart.
- 4:02So live from the heart of who we
- 4:04are.
- 4:06So I shared with you my vision.
- 4:09The question is how?
- 4:13What is getting in the way of that?
- 4:17I'll go with what's getting in the way.
- 4:20What gets in the way of us leaving
- 4:23from the heart of who we are is
- 4:29the fact that we're very judgmental.
- 4:32We're very legalistic.
- 4:36We're very rigid.
- 4:39You know, I talk to you guys about
- 4:41those rigid rules that I call expectations.
- 4:45The expectations that we did not choose consciously.
- 4:51They've just been heaped upon us by society,
- 4:56culture, what we inherited, what's innately in us.
- 5:00Sometimes we expect so much of ourselves because
- 5:03we're comparing and competing with other people.
- 5:07That gets in the way of living from
- 5:12our heart, from living from a place of
- 5:15uniqueness.
- 5:19I'm guilty of wanting to manage my reputation,
- 5:24but I don't have control over what somebody
- 5:26thinks about me.
- 5:28I'm guilty of trying to people please.
- 5:32Like, I want to give my children a
- 5:35better life than what I had.
- 5:37I don't want my children to be in
- 5:41any kind of pain, but I'm robbing them
- 5:47by doing that.
- 5:53That gets in the way of someone being
- 5:56connected to themselves.
- 5:57If someone prevents them from learning and connecting
- 6:02with themselves, I had to learn that.
- 6:08And the last thing I want to say,
- 6:11it's tied to that selfishness thing.
- 6:13It's where we project, we take our experiences
- 6:19and put them on top of everyone else
- 6:23to say, hey, why don't you know what
- 6:26I know?
- 6:27Well, because you've had a different life than
- 6:30I've had.
- 6:31So that's why I don't know what you
- 6:32know.
- 6:33And we've had different parents, different experiences.
- 6:37And that is not something to bring blame,
- 6:41shame or guilt upon anyone, but instead to
- 6:46really and truly give that compassion and grace,
- 6:51because if there's something that you don't know,
- 6:55but I know, how would you feel if
- 7:01I came to you and said, how dare
- 7:06you not know that you're supposed to fill
- 7:11in whatever blank, you know?
- 7:14And that's the thing, let's stop doing that.
- 7:19Let's, because that so gets in the way
- 7:22of people living authentically from their heart, because
- 7:26no one wants to be seen.
- 7:28No one wants to be seen as an
- 7:29outsider in this humanity where we all have
- 7:34a need, a need to belong.
- 7:39Since we all have a need to belong,
- 7:44and we all are uniquely, genuinely authentic individuals
- 7:53who get to live from our core essence,
- 7:58what can we do to allow each other
- 8:03the space to be fully human?
- 8:11Well, if someone makes a mistake, makes a
- 8:18choice that probably is not ideal, but they're
- 8:23making the choice from what they know, how
- 8:26about we share with them what we learned
- 8:33or what we see that they could have
- 8:36learned?
- 8:37And then as the receiver of that information,
- 8:42we have a choice.
- 8:45Is that something that you want to listen
- 8:48to or not or save for another day?
- 8:54Because in belonging, everyone has a need to
- 9:02be seen, heard and understood.
- 9:09Because to be vilified, blamed, shamed, ostracized, that
- 9:17does not lead to people living connected, aligned
- 9:24from their heart.
- 9:29Another thing that we can do is we
- 9:34get to look at ourselves in the mirror.
- 9:39You know, the Michael Jackson song, the man
- 9:43in the mirror, or dare I say the
- 9:44person in the mirror, right?
- 9:47Look at the person in the mirror.
- 9:50And as you look at yourself in the
- 9:53mirror, you get to examine how you are,
- 10:04how you got to where you are.
- 10:07Again, not from a place of shame, guilt,
- 10:10or blaming parents or the man or politics
- 10:16or whatever.
- 10:17No, no, no.
- 10:17It's like, hey, what do I have control
- 10:21over?
- 10:21What do you as the person in the
- 10:24mirror have control over?
- 10:26What are some things that were taught to
- 10:30you that what's the good and what could
- 10:36be left to the side?
- 10:38And you, again, you're choosing.
- 10:41And as you're making these choices, you join
- 10:44in with safe, trusted individuals within a community
- 10:50or one-on-one where you can have
- 10:54someone read your label and say, hey, this
- 10:57is how I see you show up.
- 11:00And you'll be like, hey, Janet, that's, you're
- 11:05saying that about me?
- 11:06Yes, I am saying that about you, Janet.
- 11:10That is how I see you.
- 11:15And watch Janet's confidence go up because she
- 11:22may not have been saying that to herself.
- 11:26But as we read each other's labels, let's
- 11:29do so with compassion and grace because we
- 11:36also get to tell each other hard things,
- 11:38to hold each other accountable.
- 11:40It's not all about the nice stuff.
- 11:44And accountability is a thing.
- 11:47I have been, I've been held accountable and
- 11:55it felt absolutely atrocious.
- 11:59I'm smiling now because I recognize the gift
- 12:04that it was to be held accountable.
- 12:09In the moment, I wanted to separate from
- 12:15that person and say, you are my enemy
- 12:18for telling me something like this.
- 12:23And they were not.
- 12:27They just saw like, hey, I've seen you
- 12:31behave in this manner but today I'm not
- 12:34seeing it, you know?
- 12:36And that allowed me to connect back with
- 12:39myself and say, hey, what am I doing?
- 12:43And that's beautiful.
- 12:47Does it feel good all the time?
- 12:49No, but if someone cares about you enough
- 12:57to tell you both the things that make
- 13:03you feel good and those that probably don't
- 13:05in the moment but you get to evaluate
- 13:07it for yourself, those are beautiful things.
- 13:11It's costing you, costing those that you are
- 13:16in relationship with and costing this world for
- 13:23us to live disconnected from who we are
- 13:28at our core.
- 13:35We are robbing each other of choice, robbing
- 13:40each other of the possibilities of making decisions
- 13:46that could teach us all the more and
- 13:53move us even further, farther down the road
- 13:59because getting out of the familiar, leave the
- 14:04familiar, we think the familiar is safe.
- 14:09I thought that for so long.
- 14:13It's not as safe as what we think
- 14:15it is.
- 14:16So as you're looking at yourself in the
- 14:20mirror, you get to ask yourself, how do
- 14:23I wanna be treated?
- 14:27Have you ever asked yourself that?
- 14:31It's like, go figure.
- 14:33And it's okay because again, that is not
- 14:39selfish that you checking in with you.
- 14:45And part of that check-in is like,
- 14:48hey, do I like giving all of my
- 14:54time to my job, to my children, to
- 14:57my spouse and nothing to myself?
- 15:02Is it okay for me to actually put
- 15:07in some boundaries for myself?
- 15:13And I learned from my mother that it
- 15:20is.
- 15:21At the time when I was a child,
- 15:25I didn't understand what she was doing when
- 15:28she would go into her room, close the
- 15:31door and say, don't bother me.
- 15:35And we learned as children when that bedroom
- 15:39door is closed, don't bother her.
- 15:41And what was she doing?
- 15:44My mother was sitting in the bathtub to
- 15:49actually take a bath.
- 15:52She was giving herself a pedicure.
- 15:57There was times she was exercising, just pushups,
- 16:01sit-ups.
- 16:03She was having spiritual time where she would
- 16:07read her Bible and have a conversation with
- 16:10God.
- 16:11She was taking care of aspects of herself
- 16:16that her spouse couldn't do, that her children
- 16:20couldn't do, only she could do.
- 16:25And by watching her do that, I now
- 16:28know that it's okay to tell my children,
- 16:32I'll be with you in a minute and
- 16:36create those boundaries, create that time for myself.
- 16:44So I invite you as you look in
- 16:47the mirror to evaluate, hey, what are some
- 16:51boundaries that can be tightened up in your
- 16:54family where you can give yourself the necessary
- 16:59time you need to love on yourself?
- 17:02Because again, it's necessary, it's needed, right along
- 17:07with belonging.
- 17:09Because let's imagine if everyone loved on themselves
- 17:16and treated themselves the way they wanna treat
- 17:18others, wow, what?
- 17:22Okay, like hear me out here.
- 17:25So as a parent, what would you give
- 17:30your child now that you have poured into
- 17:34yourself and refreshed and loved on you, what
- 17:39are you now able to give your child?
- 17:41You're actually able to give them the time
- 17:45that they need and that they want, that
- 17:49they've probably been, knock, ma, pa, dad, mommy,
- 17:54you know, they've been at that door, but
- 17:56you've like, hey, no, I'll be out, give
- 17:57me 15 minutes.
- 17:59It doesn't need, you don't need a long
- 18:00time, just 15 minutes.
- 18:03What would you give them?
- 18:05What would they observe and bring with them
- 18:08down the road?
- 18:09Like what my mother gave to me that
- 18:11I saw her do, now I know, oh,
- 18:13it's okay for me to do because they
- 18:15pick up more of what they see you
- 18:19do than what they hear you say, okay?
- 18:25And I know you know that, and I'm
- 18:27not trying to talk down to you with
- 18:29that, okay?
- 18:31It's my parent coming out right there.
- 18:36So let us really and truly love each
- 18:42other that way and treat people the way
- 18:44we wanna be treated because that opens the
- 18:49door for everyone else.
- 18:53And when you open that door, you have
- 18:57other options available to you, like going to
- 19:05a mental health professional without needing to, okay?
- 19:11Go ahead and do that, that's a good
- 19:13thing.
- 19:14Go to a life coach, a business coach,
- 19:18a dating coach, a coach who helps you
- 19:22get in a line with yourself, that would
- 19:26be me.
- 19:27So go ahead and join one of my
- 19:29programs.
- 19:29I invite you to stay connected with me
- 19:35as you navigate how to align with the
- 19:40core of who you are and bring that
- 19:43into every role that you have.
- 19:47Because let's think about it, every role that
- 19:51you have, that you carry is actually a
- 19:56relationship because you're not in that role by
- 20:03yourself just for yourself as a parent.
- 20:08Who's on the other side of that?
- 20:10Your child.
- 20:11As an employee, who's on the other side
- 20:14of that?
- 20:14Your boss and your coworkers.
- 20:16As a business owner, who's on the other
- 20:19side of that?
- 20:19Your employees and your clients.
- 20:24And when you are in relationship with yourself,
- 20:27who's on the side of that?
- 20:29You are, okay?
- 20:32So all of these things get to be
- 20:36harmonized and you are the conductor of your
- 20:41life.
- 20:43I want you to join me on this
- 20:47vision of all of us living from our
- 20:54core essence, the heart of who we are
- 20:57uniquely and genuinely.
- 21:01And I cannot wait to have other people
- 21:05join me, read my label, I read your
- 21:09label, and we're all having fun, holding each
- 21:12other accountable.
- 21:13It may hurt a little bit, but hey,
- 21:15we're stronger afterwards.
- 21:18We're better afterwards.
- 21:20And we create a path for the next
- 21:23generation to step into at a higher level.
- 21:28And just as my mother told me, I
- 21:32wanted you to be better than me.
- 21:36That's what she told me.
- 21:39So I'm gonna say that to you.
- 21:41I want you and your children to be
- 21:45better than me.
- 21:50Let's do that together.
