- 3:10having some technical difficulties. Can you guys hear me. If you can hear
- 3:15me, give me a thumbs up, then you can hear me. All
- 3:22right. So we got another author in a new book, in a new
- 3:27Saturday night you guys. She has her book that's called Entangled with Deceit.
- 3:37So all kinds of stuff that's going on in my head with this book.
- 3:39So we're just gonna bring the author up so we can answer all the questions
- 3:44that are going through my hand. Welcome author, Danny Nicole. How you
- 3:49doing, girlie? Hey, hey, girl, hey? How are you?
- 3:55I am good? So you ready to talk this book? Because you
- 4:00no? I just talk about it all right before we get to the book.
- 4:05Okay, yeah, tell me a little bit about Danny Nicole. Okay,
- 4:12well, let me tell you a little bit about me. I am
- 4:15originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I now reside in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- 4:21So this is now where I live. I love it here. It's
- 4:26a beautiful city and the weather is beautiful too. That's why I moved.
- 4:31I am a mother of yeah, I am a mother of three, and
- 4:35I am recently engaged. And so I'm writing this is yeah, thank you,
- 4:42thank you. So this is my first novel. I'm entangled with dec
- 4:47So I'm a first time author. Yes, we got a nebe's. I
- 4:54love newbies. I love newbies. Why you guys just books have that raw
- 5:00energy like you you're telling people you wanna You're gonna get my book. You're
- 5:06gonna read my book the way you guys come off with it. I love
- 5:11it. I love it. I love it. So Milwaukee to Charlotte,
- 5:17that's so big in like two different worlds. Can I actually bart you all
- 5:26the way over here? First of all, the weather, it's cold,
- 5:30and Walt, it's cold, and there's snow. Too much snow, too
- 5:36much snow, man, I would love snow. I'm in Charleston, South
- 5:42Carolina. Okay, I would love snow. We have snow maybe, Okay.
- 5:48So my daughter is she's about the nine, Happy Birthday and night.
- 5:51Yeah you need turning nine on Monday. So we had snow about maybe four
- 5:59years ago. It was so pretty, it was so nice. I want
- 6:04it again. But y'all running from the snow down here, running from the
- 6:11snow. That's that's true. That's a true statement. Okay, So what
- 6:17brought you to become an author? Why become an author? Well, I've
- 6:25always even when I was young, but I didn't see a lot of offers
- 6:33of color. Of course, I'm a seventies baby, so growing up there
- 6:39just wasn't really anyone to kind of look up to or you know, to
- 6:46kind of emulate or gravitate too. So I kind of just you know,
- 6:54lay it at the side and just kind of moved forward in life. And
- 6:58then I started seeing movies and reading more stories. And then as I got
- 7:05older and said, you know, I really can make money and really could
- 7:10do this thing, and I started moving forward with it. But it wasn't
- 7:15until twenty seventeen. I wrote the book in twenty seventeen, okay, okay,
- 7:23but I didn't publish it until well until twenty twenty three. Yeah,
- 7:30it took that, you know, even to get it out there. A
- 7:33lot of authors are saying that, and now it's like I want to say,
- 7:36almost every show I've done this season, everyone is saying that there was
- 7:45no representation. And I'm gonna make an announcement tonight, you guys, and
- 7:51I'm gonna need some accountable dey partners for this. But just remember this of
- 7:57color, because we're now starting to pay attention where we should be, where
- 8:03we need to be, and where we ought to be. So yes,
- 8:07yes, yes, I thank you for becoming a part of that. Working
- 8:11at a library nineteen years, I am now starting to see the fruits of
- 8:18African American author's labor, starting to see more of you guys on the shelves,
- 8:24starting to see more of you guys. Do book signings. And please
- 8:28do book signings. Okay, go to your local library, get your books
- 8:33in your local library. Have your community support you, just like you support
- 8:39your community. Okay, I'm going to stop the psay and we're going to
- 8:43go back to your book, Miss Nile. But I always want office to
- 8:46know that your library. I always do that. I have to plug in
- 8:52a lot, yes, because I never knew what the world. Yes,
- 8:58I get paid by but I do see all the other benefits of it and
- 9:03I love it. Yes, Trevita, you need to do that, need
- 9:09to go to your library. It's one of the followers. So Entangled with
- 9:18the Sea. Yeah, we're gonna talk about you a little bit. We're
- 9:24gonna talk about this book. Why the cover art, the title, break
- 9:33it down, break it down, break it down. So let's let's talk
- 9:37about the background of this book. Yes, go ahead. Okay, Well,
- 9:46I know I know you're thinking. I know what you're thinking. So
- 9:50let me tell you. So this book, I guess I could say some
- 9:58past experiences kind of led me to write this book just a little bit.
- 10:07This a tiny bit. Hast experiences some movies because I love romantic drama and
- 10:18some suspense and thriller in movies that I've seen lately, and so just combining
- 10:26that and then you know, and I'm a romantic. I love romance novels
- 10:31too, so seeing a drama in a romance is like, oh my god,
- 10:37Like why did he do that? Or why did she do that?
- 10:41It just all came together, and you know, like when we fall in
- 10:45love, we want the guy to be this perfect. I mean, he's
- 10:48perfect, he looks good, he's got the perfect job, he's got the
- 10:52perfect demeanor. But then there's a betrayal, and then there's a deceit,
- 11:00and then there's a lie, and then it's just like it all falls apart.
- 11:03And that's what the book is about. See that, right there,
- 11:09That's why I want the perfect thing a flaw. I have a gun a
- 11:18mad when you get you know, right, right, it's too perfect.
- 11:28When it's too perfect, it's just like it's it's too good to be true,
- 11:35right, And in this book, he is too good to be true?
- 11:41So who is he? So tell us about these mean characters? Okay,
- 11:43okay? So Victoria Willis is the woman who meets Ericson Sanders, who
- 11:52is like the man of her dreams. He is like everything. He is
- 11:56like the guy like she's prayed about. She's got the list, he's the
- 12:01check mark. He checks off everything on her list, right, okay everything,
- 12:07as you can see from the cover, everything off her list, Yes,
- 12:13yes, ma'am. But when she sees some red flash, she starts
- 12:18to pay attention to what's going on around her and with him, and she
- 12:26finds out he's got some things going on that he didn't tell her about from
- 12:33the beginning. Yeah, yes, ma'am. Yes, So I'm not trying
- 12:41to give it away. But is this enough of Victoria to know if I
- 12:48asked that question, that is, yeah, you can't ask that question.
- 12:54Ask I can't answer that. So okay, and his name began is Ericson,
- 13:03Ericson. I was saying Eric, okay, so well you will.
- 13:07It's a nickname. You know, you could say Eric because you can call
- 13:09her VICKI. So you'll be coming up with some names for these people.
- 13:15Sometimes they need to be A and B. I can't be pronounced and B.
- 13:20Right, we got V and E to day. So does E see
- 13:31any flaws in V? Or it's just B seen. No, he's the
- 13:37villain V No. V is perfect? No she she no, she she
- 13:46She doesn't have any flaws of course not. Oh lord jesus, no,
- 13:54you I messed up the whole book. Say, oh my nerves. You
- 14:01know what, We're gonna take a break, you guys, if we're gonna
- 14:07show y'all some commercials and when can come back. I'm gonna we're gonna see
- 14:11who E if he gonna be in some other situations. Do you guys,
- 14:16take a break. We'll be right back. Okay. Indeed, Lord Jesus,
- 14:37turn off the light that I can tonight. I'm gone. I'm gonna
- 14:50imagine. Let's take a shower show together. I'll wash your bunnet, you
- 15:07wash my some much wealth day and same. Just turn off it. Come
- 15:35you'll want to care of you a special tweet. You're so sweet. Turn
- 15:41on it. Okay, I'm sorry, I'm back. Yeah. If you
- 15:50know me, you know I love that commercial. I love it. I
- 15:56love it. I love it. I also hum hm m hm. So
- 16:03let th candles. Yeah, who girl, I'm gonna hook you up with
- 16:08information or I hook you up. I'm about the black guy and we're gonna
- 16:15get you some. Don't hurt up like with the candle's on. Now,
- 16:18you gotta light at first and then turn off. Okay, okay, okay,
- 16:22go on. So you said that movies played a part in you writing
- 16:29your book. Was there a certain movie or a certain character that played a
- 16:33part. No. I I just like, so, I'm a I love
- 16:42romantic novels. And when I started seeing like romantic dramas or like romance with
- 16:51thriller and like romance with suspense, I was like, oh, like I
- 16:56was intrigued by that because it wasn't like always the happy ending. It was
- 17:00like an ending with a that wasn't happy. And I was like, oh,
- 17:07oh, it wasn't It wasn't that. It wasn't that fairy tale ending.
- 17:12Oh the time, something something like the movie. Uh, I just
- 17:15saw it perfect guy, Yes, something similar to that. Okay, yeah,
- 17:22so that intrigued me. Yes, Vicky is a character that we see
- 17:26today. Who would she be? Yes? Would she? Mm hmm.
- 17:34From what you're telling me, I would see like Shania Lethan or maybe I
- 17:51don't like to use her much, but I'm seeing Carrie Washington. Yes,
- 17:56who would be your Vicky? Who would be my Vicky? M you know
- 18:07what you know? Hummm, that's a good question. It's so many that
- 18:15I like. Yeah, so I put me on there like that. Okay,
- 18:25Well, let's say I'll give you, give me a moment to think
- 18:27about Vicky. Let's talk about it. I am seeing a Terrence Howard,
- 18:40but I'm not seeing and this is the first time I've ever thought that skin
- 18:45color would play a role in the character. I'm seeing the Terrence Howard attitude,
- 18:52arrogant, But what do you see? Yes? Yes, okay,
- 19:03okay, okay, yes, But when I think about the look Dwayne Wayne
- 19:15from a different world. Oh okay, I can see that. And I'm
- 19:23only going off of how you talk about the characters and I'm seeing and that's
- 19:32why I put them two together, Dwayne Wayne and Kerrie Washington. It looks
- 19:37awkward, but it works. Yes, yes, so who and he's got
- 19:44the attitude of Terrence Howard. Yes that, yes, yes, okay,
- 19:49okay, right, okay, I can see that. Hee where you're going?
- 19:55So, now, who are you? Because you're the author? So
- 19:57you in front of me? Well so, but the Terrence Howard and Empire
- 20:06because he's got the swag mm hmmm, with the attitude Rance Howard and power
- 20:17Laurent's tea for the look. Oh that's good. I see that. Y'all
- 20:25needed me to direct y'all movies. I can give y'all. I'm gonna the
- 20:32movie. There we go. I'm gonna write you down. I'm gonna write
- 20:34you down right now. Thank you? Cout me down in the credit credits.
- 20:41Yeah, yes, Na, get heady. So, how are you
- 20:47planning on marketing your book? Because we got you here? Do we have
- 20:52any books coming up? How are you planning to get Danny Nicole and angled
- 21:00with the seat out there to the masses. Yes, so I have.
- 21:04So the first thing what's coming up next is I have an article coming out
- 21:11March fifteenth and Pretty Women Hustle. It's an online magazine, so I will
- 21:18be sharing that link soon. And then I'll be on the Queen Collaboration with
- 21:25Angela March twenty first, so that the other podcast NIKKD Yes, ma'am.
- 21:34And then I'm hoping the books signing because the pre release for the book is
- 21:41March twenty fifth, m so I'm hoping the book signing will be April or
- 21:47May. So I got the top of my publishing company and but that's soon.
- 21:52That's so it's it's like bam bam bam, like and the promoting won't
- 22:00it won't stop. I mean, I'm planning to be on more podcasts,
- 22:03more magazines right after, like every month, I want to do something to
- 22:07promote the book, showing that book every day, talking about it every day,
- 22:14just social media every day. Yes. Soon. Let me ask you
- 22:18a question, you did you go independent or publishing house? So I went
- 22:23publishing house, okay, and I went with Black Gold Publishing because because they
- 22:30are they're black owned and but I did my homework. Believe that took the
- 22:37long the book was done. I've heard that. I've heard it's always the
- 22:44struggle of doing it yourself or having it done for you. And I've heard
- 22:51the good bad in both situations. And when I usually tell my friends or
- 22:56people who approach me with that and said to me, it seems like the
- 23:00time you have to commit. If you know you're not going to have enough
- 23:03time to commit to fully supporting your book or supporting your branding, you might
- 23:11want to pay somebody into it. But always remember, I tell them,
- 23:15what you pay somebody you can technically do is yourself if you can get the
- 23:18right set platform. You know what I'm saying. So that's what that was
- 23:22it, And that's exactly what I had to do. That's that's what took
- 23:26so long. Exactly I had to decide that was the deciding factor and read
- 23:34on ahead and went with the publishing company to do that. So and I've
- 23:40been I've been impressed. I've been pleased ever since, and I feel good
- 23:45about it. I feel like we got we had a good relationship from the
- 23:48start, and I've been moving forward from there. Please rights, I'm ready
- 23:56to get the work, put the work in. Yes, so you have
- 24:02your family supporting you. So how does your kids feel about mommy being the
- 24:08author and your new fiance feel about his wife being an author. They're they're
- 24:15excited. My family has always been supportive of me. I mean, it's
- 24:22it's I'm the one that's that's a wreck, Like I'm the nervous wreck over
- 24:26here, right, I'm the one they got to calm me down, you
- 24:30know, Yeah, I'm the one that's freaking out. And they're like,
- 24:34it's okay, Like we're supporting you, Like what do you need us to
- 24:37do? Like when when's the podcast? Like we're behind you. It's okay,
- 24:45Like we're they're encouraging me to calm down. Like that is awesome to
- 24:51have a supporting backbone that village. Yes, you can tell my questions are
- 24:59all over the place. So we about to go back to this book.
- 25:02I had to put you on the shelf, okay, and I putting you
- 25:07next to I can read in public or who jesus, please don't let nobody
- 25:14see this book and get me in trouble? Were in my foot? Oh?
- 25:19Go ahead? Probably, oh Jesus, Because when I was writing these
- 25:26scenes, I thought about my mama, I said, my mama. I
- 25:32was like, Mama gonna be like, oh day. But there ain't nothing
- 25:38wrong with that because one of the best authors there is, Zay, said
- 25:45she would not let her child touch her book until she turned of age.
- 25:48So if you if you scared to let mama reads your book, I said
- 25:55to read you back in the day. I mean now that I'm grown,
- 26:03But at one time, I was like, Mama gonna be like, oh,
- 26:08listen, listen. I now understand why households have more than one kindle.
- 26:15Okay, my daughter had a kindle. It was just sitting there and
- 26:19I had the book. She said, Mommy, what BI matched that kindle
- 26:23so quick? I'm trying to get you. Jesus knocking me no earlier,
- 26:30you know, right right, pay control out of the wind, right.
- 26:36I totally understand. So mm hmm. If we're talking music, because that's
- 26:47another thing I love. So I told you we're gonna do book, We're
- 26:49gonna do movies, We're gonna do music. Yes, who would be Vicky
- 26:56and who would be e ooh music? Hm hmmm, I see e let's
- 27:07see. No, that's not who I want. That's not I'm thinking ussia
- 27:17I'm thinking Playboy mm hmmm, yeah, I can see that. And for
- 27:27V I'm thinking Chante Moore. Yeah, yeah, those are good. That's
- 27:36good. Yeah, you're gonna have to be a director. That's in your
- 27:38in your your decks on your resume. Put that down. It's just it's
- 27:45something that I do because a lot of people when they come to the library
- 27:48and they get their first book, they're like, I don't like to read
- 27:51books, And I say, your book is nothing but your TV and words.
- 27:55Mm hmmm, mm hmm it is. Yeah, And I asked,
- 27:57what did you look at TV last that you enjoy the lady today, a
- 28:03young lady told me the last book she looked at and she enjoyed the movie
- 28:07was but she said Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Okay,
- 28:18so I gave her church the choir director. She was like, oh,
- 28:23okay. So she was sitting down there reading the book while her daughter was
- 28:26doing the program. She sat down there for a hour. She came to
- 28:29me and she said, this is good. I can see this. And
- 28:33I was like, yeah, you want her a little you want a little
- 28:34religion, but you want a little steam on the side. So really,
- 28:38everybody when you're reading the book. He's just TV and words. That's all
- 28:42it is. Use your imagination and everything else. Yeah, but my friend
- 28:48and before me in the night, you know, you got to get us
- 28:52a rundown. Where to follow you, where to get your book, how
- 28:56to pre order your book? So media, go ahead and run them all
- 29:00down. Okay, Well, social media, you can follow me at so
- 29:07on Instagram and Facebook for my book, because that's where you're gonna really get
- 29:11the information. I'm at Danny Nicole, the author. So it's d A
- 29:18N I N I c O l E thh e a U t h o
- 29:29R. So anything about like the book, release, my events, that'll
- 29:33be on that Instagram or Facebook, and that's where you're gonna find that information.
- 29:41My book is gonna be released or you can purchase when it's ready at
- 29:48black Gold Publishing and that'll in Amazon, those two. But that'll be on
- 29:53my Instagram and Facebook, those handles, those social media handles, So that's
- 29:59where you're find that. And like I said, I'm gonna be promoting the
- 30:02book like all the time, like every day. Uh you know where I'll
- 30:07be podcasting magazines, I'm gonna be promoting all the time, like you're gonna
- 30:15get tired you like she posted again, yep, because I want you to
- 30:18get the book. Let them be tired of you. Because guess what,
- 30:25just because they saw it again, somebody might have saw it the first time,
- 30:30right right, absolutely, and so keep on. When I see it,
- 30:34I will share it. I habit tendency to share the author's information.
- 30:41If you want me to do whatever, you can just say, hey,
- 30:45Patrice, I need to help with this. I need somebody said, you
- 30:48can never share too much? You never can, never can, yes,
- 30:52never can. I would do that. So one last thing, what would
- 30:57you like to leave us? What would you like to say to your new
- 31:00readers, your followers. What would you like to say? Well, I
- 31:07want to say to my new readers, my followers, to never give up,
- 31:14to stay the course, to stay in your lane. Do no like
- 31:22like stay in your lane, like do what you want to do, like
- 31:26follow your path, don't be like anybody else, follow your dream because you're
- 31:30never too old and it's never too late. So stay the course. Yes,
- 31:38I can't believe you just said that. You said, did I say
- 31:44what you said? Oh no, but I'm going to lead into that.
- 31:49Missus Danny and Nicole. I thank you for joining me tonight. And before
- 31:55she leaves, I told you guys that I would have an announcement to me.
- 32:00She said, stay in your lane is never too late. I have
- 32:07been tossed to the turney in about this idea for the longest and at one
- 32:14point I never felt that I will be able to go and do this again.
- 32:17And so many life issues, family issues, work issues, d da
- 32:22da da da. But when God set you on the course, He's going
- 32:29to show you where you're supposed to go. So there was this documentary that
- 32:34is coming out pretty soon, you guys, and the documentary is called Are
- 32:37You a Librarian? And I spoke about this documentary before and the crazy thing
- 32:44about it is the biggest factor in the takeaway I took from it helped me
- 32:52to make the decision that I made. So of all librarians in the United
- 33:00States are African American, only seven percent, you guys, I am a
- 33:09librarian specialist and I am going to announce the day that in the fall,
- 33:15I am going back to school to get my librarian degree. It is because
- 33:21of you, guys. How I have Angela, who's my bestie, pushing
- 33:29me the crew who supports me, my family who loves me. I now
- 33:36have a time in my life where I can say, you know what,
- 33:38stop playing. God has put me where I'm supposed to be, and it's
- 33:45given me all the tools. So your girl is going back the school,
- 33:50y'all. Yes, So I need you to have some accountability partners and tell
