- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, Welcome.
- 0:07Speaker 2: It is time now for car talk right here on
- 0:10Speaker 2: K one, the one you cross stand. We've got our
- 0:12Speaker 2: friends in here from Dongeons, Toyoad Lynn, you've brought friends.
- 0:16Speaker 3: I did bring friends.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yes, I'm here with Mike. He first encountered an amazing
- 0:24Speaker 1: community at Nehemiah when we started. They started teaching relationship
- 0:30Speaker 1: classes to certain participants in the community while on staff
- 0:35Speaker 1: at Grace Community Church in twenty seventeen. Mike, I don't
- 0:40Speaker 1: want to speak for you, but he came on in
- 0:42Speaker 1: January of twenty twenty five, correct, Yeah, to direct expansion
- 0:48Speaker 1: to room in the Inn, and he's going to talk
- 0:50Speaker 1: more about kind of what Neihamiah House is all about.
- 0:53Speaker 1: But his previous experience in both practice and private practice
- 0:57Speaker 1: counseling church community truly just builds what suited to this program.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So he provides strategic direction to the organization, pastoral guidance.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I think that that's the foundation of kind of where
- 1:12Speaker 1: they stand. And today we're really going to just talk
- 1:16Speaker 1: about what truly impacts the lives in our community in Bartlesville.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Here done just Toyota is super supportive of all the
- 1:25Speaker 1: community efforts that we're doing and understanding just that second changes,
- 1:30Speaker 1: restoration and rebuilding are very important to the people that
- 1:34Speaker 1: we serve. It's a program obviously dedicated to helping men
- 1:41Speaker 1: specifically to rebuild their lives through holding them accountable and
- 1:45Speaker 1: making sure that they're on their feet and can actually
- 1:49Speaker 1: get you know, a license or really anything job.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, all the functions.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Kind of just going back to the roots. So our
- 2:03Speaker 1: listeners are going to hear obviously the mission of Me
- 2:05Speaker 1: and Maya House, the reason behind having second chances and
- 2:09Speaker 1: building a strong foundation to get people back on their feet.
- 2:13Speaker 1: So I will say, and I can get into the questions,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but Me and My House is really more about than
- 2:23Speaker 1: just recovery. It's establishing, you know, their character and making
- 2:31Speaker 1: sure that they have what they need in terms of
- 2:34Speaker 1: just functioning from day to day. Right, So I know
- 2:39Speaker 1: that you guys are all about transformation, helping people rediscover
- 2:42Speaker 1: purpose and building those relationships and really step into their
- 2:47Speaker 1: new future. So thank you Mike for.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Being with us today.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Thank you tell us a little bit about your background
- 2:55Speaker 1: and how you became involved with Me and Maya House.
- 2:58Speaker 1: This is more so on you versus the actual mission
- 3:02Speaker 1: focus on me.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't get to do this very often, usually
- 3:07Speaker 2: about me.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I think the for me, my background was in counseling.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I ended up having a door. I went to seminary
- 3:16Speaker 2: at Dallas Theological Seminary. That's where I got my masters
- 3:18Speaker 2: from for counseling. And so after that I focused mainly
- 3:23Speaker 2: on working on being a licensed counselor, and so I
- 3:27Speaker 2: worked in private practice for a while. I ended up
- 3:29Speaker 2: on the East Coast out in Baltimore area for a
- 3:32Speaker 2: couple of years, and then up in northern Delaware and
- 3:35Speaker 2: the Philly.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Suburbs kind of area.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I worked with a Christian counseling practice and built that
- 3:39Speaker 2: out for several years. And so, you know, my heart
- 3:42Speaker 2: has just been to work with people, help them through
- 3:45Speaker 2: you know, health. I did a lot of couples counseling
- 3:47Speaker 2: and a lot of that kind of stuff. But there
- 3:50Speaker 2: was a shift about ten years ago. I had been
- 3:53Speaker 2: feeling like I was God was leading me to something different.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I ended up moving down to Bartlesville because I got
- 4:00Speaker 2: a job with Grace Community Church and so that was
- 4:03Speaker 2: several years for almost ten years of me kind of learning.
- 4:06Speaker 3: The pastoral side of things.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I had had a lot of the training, you know,
- 4:11Speaker 2: in terms of going through seminary, but it was doing
- 4:14Speaker 2: a different side of things, still doing some counseling, but
- 4:16Speaker 2: also learning a pastoral side.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Working with people. And I love that.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I still have a great relationship with Grace over there,
- 4:23Speaker 2: and actually Memiah does too, And so while I was there,
- 4:27Speaker 2: we started we had a partnership with them because we
- 4:31Speaker 2: knew them, and they were bringing them to some of
- 4:33Speaker 2: the participants to our church, and I found out like
- 4:37Speaker 2: they really needed help with relationships. I found you know,
- 4:40Speaker 2: these people, a lot of them had abusive relations They
- 4:44Speaker 2: had abusive relationships, horrible abuse in their background some of them,
- 4:47Speaker 2: or you know, we'd hear these different stories. I'm like, wow,
- 4:50Speaker 2: they really don't they don't know how to have a
- 4:52Speaker 2: healthy relationship. And I'm like, I spent a lot of time,
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, doing counseling with these kinds of things, like sure,
- 4:58Speaker 2: I would.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Love to you know, over and teach a little relationship class.
- 5:01Speaker 2: So I started that, and I was coming over Wednesday
- 5:04Speaker 2: mornings as part of my job at.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Grace, and they resonated with it.
- 5:09Speaker 2: People got so excited, like no one's ever told me
- 5:11Speaker 2: how to do this before. We talk about basics of
- 5:13Speaker 2: like how to handle conflict or something, and people were
- 5:16Speaker 2: just glued to it and they started calling me doctor Love.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I've owned it now.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It was embarrassing for a while, but I was like, Okay,
- 5:27Speaker 2: we'll go with it.
- 5:28Speaker 3: But that became.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But I've learned to love the people over there, and
- 5:32Speaker 2: I think what I found is there's a lot of brokenness.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We were meeting people who are coming out of they
- 5:39Speaker 2: have huge come out of huge messes because they've come
- 5:41Speaker 2: out of jail or they've come out of rehab, they've
- 5:43Speaker 2: come out of something like that, and their life is
- 5:44Speaker 2: just broken and a lot of them you look, You're like, man,
- 5:48Speaker 2: there's brokenness going back to the day they were born
- 5:50Speaker 2: and from their family of origin and the abuse that.
- 5:53Speaker 3: They suffered or something like that.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And you're like, they never no one's ever parented them
- 5:58Speaker 2: or shown them or given them a chance to know
- 6:00Speaker 2: even how to function in society. So man, the more
- 6:03Speaker 2: I was over there teaching him, the more I just
- 6:05Speaker 2: I love seeing the light go on with somebody.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to dig into it, and once you do,
- 6:10Speaker 1: you're yeah, I'm sure you.
- 6:12Speaker 2: See the stories of people changing stuff in their life
- 6:14Speaker 2: that's really hard, and I know how hard it is
- 6:17Speaker 2: to overcome some of the trauma and abuse or different things.
- 6:21Speaker 2: You know, you hear the stories of it, and I'm like, wow,
- 6:25Speaker 2: I see them doing hard things and fighting hard to
- 6:27Speaker 2: save their lives. Right, So when you get to see
- 6:30Speaker 2: those stories, it's as messy as it is and as.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Hard as it is because people are coming out of
- 6:35Speaker 3: a lot of mess.
- 6:37Speaker 2: When you get to see him like do something amazing
- 6:40Speaker 2: in their life and you're seeing them succeed, it's like wow,
- 6:43Speaker 2: like that that's what needs it for me.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah, because I'm just like to get.
- 6:48Speaker 2: To see the light go on in somebody's eyes and
- 6:50Speaker 2: they're like, Okay, I want something different for myself, to
- 6:54Speaker 2: see him working, to see We had somebody this week
- 6:56Speaker 2: that she got promoted in her job, like they made
- 6:59Speaker 2: her the lead, you know, in her job.
- 7:01Speaker 3: She's like, I've never had this before.
- 7:03Speaker 2: No one's ever like said I'm doing a good job
- 7:05Speaker 2: and promoted me before.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That was a hall I never had had that had
- 7:09Speaker 3: you not been in the picture with me.
- 7:11Speaker 2: My house, like no, the stability and feeling like she
- 7:13Speaker 2: has support and family because the same version would say
- 7:17Speaker 2: I never had family before. Like I don't have a family,
- 7:20Speaker 2: is not something I've ever had. This is my family.
- 7:23Speaker 3: These are the people that support me and love me
- 7:25Speaker 3: and are hear from me.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And to see somebody through that, it's like feeling that
- 7:29Speaker 2: confidence and now like I can go do well at
- 7:32Speaker 2: my job and they actually liked me.
- 7:33Speaker 3: And wanted to promote me.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I'm like, that's that's what I'll do with this for
- 7:37Speaker 2: is I want to seeing that happen in someone's life.
- 7:39Speaker 3: It's like, Yeah, it's amazing, that's awesome, that's awesome.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I think the biggest question I have is what makes
- 7:48Speaker 1: me and my house different from other recovery programs, Like
- 7:53Speaker 1: how how do you guys stand out or how do
- 7:55Speaker 1: you position yourselves in terms of you know, obviously getting
- 7:59Speaker 1: the right people that you're supporting.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it is, and we kind of that will get
- 8:07Speaker 2: confused for some people because I think we do be
- 8:09Speaker 2: overlapped because we cover a broad range of things for people.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Because when we get in into the mess with somebody,
- 8:15Speaker 2: I can't just do mental health work. For example, there
- 8:18Speaker 2: are counseling needs that I jumped into. There's addiction that's
- 8:22Speaker 2: going on, but then you know they're also they're coming
- 8:25Speaker 2: out of homelessness, they're coming out of addiction.
- 8:27Speaker 3: They've been in jail, they've got court things that they
- 8:29Speaker 3: need to deal with.
- 8:30Speaker 2: We're trying to be a well rounded, holistic kind of
- 8:33Speaker 2: program because you get involved.
- 8:34Speaker 3: In any one of these, you have to get involved
- 8:36Speaker 3: in all of them.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And so we we're distinguished from I would say a
- 8:40Speaker 2: difference between us, like say the Lighthouse would be the
- 8:42Speaker 2: light that I think are doing great work. They deal
- 8:45Speaker 2: with like the emergency housing side of it, for you know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: someone that's just coming off the street.
- 8:51Speaker 3: They just want to get off the street. They need
- 8:52Speaker 3: a safe place to.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Sleep tonight, right those places they do that, and they
- 8:56Speaker 2: do that really well. We've not tried to be really
- 8:58Speaker 2: in that space. We tell people you're going to be
- 9:01Speaker 2: doing a lot of classes, a lot of groups, a
- 9:03Speaker 2: lot of you know, counseling stuff, like you're.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Going to be busy, people accountable to show up. Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah, So I say if you're when people are just
- 9:11Speaker 2: trying to get off the street, often they won't respond.
- 9:14Speaker 3: They don't. They get real sick of us real quick.
- 9:16Speaker 2: They're like, you're asking me all these questions or I
- 9:18Speaker 2: have to go to all these classes, like I didn't
- 9:20Speaker 2: want to do any of this.
- 9:21Speaker 3: I just need a safe place to sleep tonight.
- 9:23Speaker 2: And so we'll tell them when we interview them like that,
- 9:26Speaker 2: if you're ready to work and transition out. I've always
- 9:29Speaker 2: said as a counselor, my job is to work myself
- 9:31Speaker 2: out of a job with somebody. I want you to
- 9:33Speaker 2: go beyond me. And that's the same thing. On their program,
- 9:36Speaker 2: we're trying. We're getting them out of other places, right.
- 9:40Speaker 2: They're coming out of uh, they've got to assign the
- 9:43Speaker 2: mental health court, they're getting out of jail, they're they're
- 9:45Speaker 2: getting out of rehab and they need a living space
- 9:49Speaker 2: that's sober living or something like that. But they're ready
- 9:52Speaker 2: to figure out how to live independently. That's we're going
- 9:55Speaker 2: to walk with them to try to help them get
- 9:57Speaker 2: there and put the pieces together right.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Right, So, I mean typically, like if someone were to
- 10:04Speaker 1: come in and say I just need to roof over my.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Head, yeah, we would.
- 10:07Speaker 2: We would usually be calling up we would help them
- 10:10Speaker 2: find someplace, but we would be saying, let's go talk
- 10:13Speaker 2: to the lighthouse.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Have you been there before? Have you been to be
- 10:15Speaker 3: the light?
- 10:15Speaker 2: You know, we would start figuring out you know, what's
- 10:19Speaker 2: happened there, and we try to figure out what's a
- 10:20Speaker 2: good space for them. But if they're they're just like, man,
- 10:23Speaker 2: I just need a place to stay, I'm like, you're
- 10:25Speaker 2: probably not going to like it here. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 10:28Speaker 2: because we're we're going to be doing a whole lot
- 10:30Speaker 2: of stuff and if you're not ready to take that on,
- 10:32Speaker 2: then okay, that's and it's great that that's happening somewhere.
- 10:35Speaker 3: We probably refer them.
- 10:37Speaker 1: And weally question but in terms of like payment for
- 10:43Speaker 1: rent or like what does.
- 10:44Speaker 3: That look like?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Is it? We usually so when someone comes in the program,
- 10:49Speaker 2: we have between fundraising we've done and between some great
- 10:54Speaker 2: money different things that we get, we usually try to
- 10:57Speaker 2: have their first months to six weeks paid for and
- 11:02Speaker 2: so then because we want them to have a chance
- 11:04Speaker 2: to get in work the program to.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Just usually they have to stabilize a little bit.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And we're doing some job training stuff early on that
- 11:12Speaker 2: we want them to work through and then in that.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Month obviously getting a paycheck and then.
- 11:18Speaker 2: After that they should be working. So we keep that
- 11:21Speaker 2: pretty minimal. Like our people, they will pay like one
- 11:24Speaker 2: hundred dollars a week just in covering and cost we
- 11:28Speaker 2: have you know ARLANDA Parker who started this. He's a
- 11:31Speaker 2: real estate guy. He finds the in chiefs, he owns
- 11:33Speaker 2: it and he doesn't have any.
- 11:36Speaker 3: And he rebuilt it himself.
- 11:37Speaker 2: So it would say we're in a position where we
- 11:39Speaker 2: don't have to we're not paying a huge mortgage that
- 11:41Speaker 2: we have to get a lot of money from them
- 11:42Speaker 2: to pay the rent. So we try to keep that
- 11:44Speaker 2: cost really low manageable because often when they start into
- 11:47Speaker 2: a job, you know, they're they're working minimum wage jobs,
- 11:50Speaker 2: so there they often don't have a lot right away.
- 11:53Speaker 2: So we that way we can transition them towards getting
- 11:56Speaker 2: to a place where they're making enough to afford to
- 11:58Speaker 2: live in towns where that's a different challenge and it
- 12:02Speaker 2: it takes some work to get there. So we want
- 12:05Speaker 2: immediately after that first month or so, we want them
- 12:07Speaker 2: to be responsible to get used to paying rent. We
- 12:10Speaker 2: want them even if it's just a small amount. I
- 12:12Speaker 2: want them to have the experience of putting money aside
- 12:15Speaker 2: from their paycheck to pay their rent. They need the
- 12:18Speaker 2: experience of doing those things. A lot of them have
- 12:20Speaker 2: never done it, and so you know, when we're looking
- 12:23Speaker 2: at those are usually the first we talk about six
- 12:26Speaker 2: pillars that we put in. Yeah, so our six pillar,
- 12:30Speaker 2: like graduating our program means you have to work through
- 12:34Speaker 2: finding a job, getting a bank account, transportation, and then
- 12:39Speaker 2: eventually housing, you know, getting your own housing, and then
- 12:42Speaker 2: recovery and spiritual development.
- 12:44Speaker 3: So those are our six pillars. So usually those first.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Ones are getting a job and getting a bank account
- 12:50Speaker 2: and learning to manage that. And then while we're working
- 12:53Speaker 2: on their whatever recovery mental health issues and spiritual issues
- 12:56Speaker 2: that may come up in the program. And then usually
- 12:59Speaker 2: those last two are saving so that they can buy
- 13:02Speaker 2: a car or something to have transportation, and then saving
- 13:06Speaker 2: enough money that hey, you're gonna have to have your
- 13:08Speaker 2: first month's rent ready to put down if you're going
- 13:10Speaker 2: into an apartment. Some people have never saved that kind
- 13:13Speaker 2: of money in their life. To have saved seven hundred
- 13:16Speaker 2: dollars or one thousand dollars sounds overwhelming to a lot
- 13:19Speaker 2: of people with money or for then they can't even
- 13:22Speaker 2: fathom having that money set aside.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It gets me chills. I'm like, oh, that's awesome.
- 13:28Speaker 2: To help them through that process, that's what we're trying
- 13:30Speaker 2: to do. And so, yeah, so when we get there,
- 13:33Speaker 2: right away. I want them to have the experience of
- 13:36Speaker 2: starting to build these habits.
- 13:38Speaker 3: So while we're.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Dealing with you know, recovery and all that kind of stuff,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I'm also saying, I want you to learn some responsibility
- 13:45Speaker 2: the same way. In the house that they're living and
- 13:47Speaker 2: we have a men's in a women's house, they're getting
- 13:49Speaker 2: the experience of you need to make your bet every day,
- 13:51Speaker 2: you need to get up, and you have cleaning tours
- 13:53Speaker 2: that you need to do within the house. Everybody's got responsibilities.
- 13:56Speaker 2: You're taking turns cooking during the day.
- 13:58Speaker 3: It's a lot of these basic is that they have
- 14:00Speaker 3: to get used to doing.
- 14:02Speaker 2: But like, if you're going to live on your own,
- 14:04Speaker 2: you're gonna have to manage these kind of responsibilities.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And some of them have, but many of them have not.
- 14:10Speaker 2: They've never had any of this experience. They've lived in
- 14:13Speaker 2: chaotic situations their whole life.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, so's there's a huge element element of education and
- 14:20Speaker 1: kind of just walking them through, you know, the process.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I even think to myself, I'm like, just put one
- 14:26Speaker 1: foot on the floor, just one foot on the floor.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I was walking up the stairs.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I was like one foot in front of the other. Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 3: and it's you know, you've.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Got to get granular when it comes to that stuff,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and I know that that can be really difficult, but
- 14:41Speaker 1: you guys are doing great things. Do you guys stay
- 14:45Speaker 1: connected with graduates after they leave near my house?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Yes, I mean we're always more excited. Sometimes people just
- 14:53Speaker 2: hop by. We're always excited to see them. You know,
- 14:56Speaker 2: there's a few of them that are working for us,
- 14:58Speaker 2: so some of them have had.
- 14:58Speaker 3: A role, you know, the graduated that we really love
- 15:01Speaker 3: to employ them.
- 15:02Speaker 2: We're trying to build more opportunities to employ some of
- 15:05Speaker 2: our people and so that's that's one of our long
- 15:08Speaker 2: term goals, is building out some business opportunities we're building
- 15:12Speaker 2: so we can employ more of our people. But yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 2: we're always excited when we hear from somebody that's you know,
- 15:18Speaker 2: we haven't seen in months, and all of a sudden
- 15:20Speaker 2: they pop in and.
- 15:22Speaker 3: We try to like we might you know, in whatever context.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Some people leave suddenly.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Sometimes people you know, just like man, I'm done with this,
- 15:30Speaker 2: and they bail, you know, because it's hard and so
- 15:33Speaker 2: we but and we've had people cycle through multiple times
- 15:36Speaker 2: as well that have been in the program before they left. Maybe,
- 15:40Speaker 2: I mean we're in this space of dealing with people's addictions.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And all that kind of stuff.
- 15:44Speaker 2: People leave, they relapse, they go back out on the street.
- 15:47Speaker 2: We have to see that all the time. So but
- 15:49Speaker 2: you know, we've had people that have come through that
- 15:51Speaker 2: we've seen on to the three different occasions that come
- 15:54Speaker 2: through our program, you know, that are still trying to
- 15:56Speaker 2: figure it out and as long as they're ready to work.
- 16:00Speaker 3: You tell him.
- 16:00Speaker 2: One of the things that Orlando started saying early on,
- 16:03Speaker 2: he said, we're not going to let go of your hand, right,
- 16:05Speaker 2: you may let go of ours, but we're not going
- 16:07Speaker 2: to let go orders Like, once that person's part of us,
- 16:10Speaker 2: we have a certain lolity.
- 16:12Speaker 3: We care about it.
- 16:13Speaker 2: And you know, regardless of even if we have to
- 16:15Speaker 2: have hard consequences with people, we're still it's like, we
- 16:19Speaker 2: care about what is best for you and trying to
- 16:20Speaker 2: help you get your life on track. So we need
- 16:22Speaker 2: to do that. We want to step in and help
- 16:25Speaker 2: whatever way we can.
- 16:26Speaker 3: And so yeah, but.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Success stories too, when they come by and we're just like, hey,
- 16:31Speaker 2: you're still like working successfully and you're doing well in
- 16:34Speaker 2: your job, It's like that's awesome. That is to me,
- 16:37Speaker 2: that's super refreshing. For us when we get to see
- 16:40Speaker 2: the other side of it.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Absolutely, I'm sure there's a mix of both. I would
- 16:45Speaker 1: imagine working in.
- 16:47Speaker 2: This industry is that, Yes, this mess has a hold
- 16:50Speaker 2: on people, right, So obviously we have to deal with
- 16:53Speaker 2: the disappointment when somebody makes a bad choice.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Yeah, And at the end of the day, I mean,
- 16:57Speaker 1: you can't fix the people that you have in the system,
- 17:01Speaker 1: in the program, like, they have to make that decision themselves, right,
- 17:04Speaker 1: So they do just trying to, like I said, educating them.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And I think from a community standpoint, how can I'll
- 17:14Speaker 1: say Borrowersville, but in general, how can the people in
- 17:17Speaker 1: the community get involved and you know.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Support me and my own house?
- 17:23Speaker 2: There is always I mean, financial support is always great.
- 17:26Speaker 2: It's an expensive business doing what we do, and there's
- 17:29Speaker 2: all kinds of little things that come up. Our website
- 17:33Speaker 2: themis CDC dot com is a great place to go
- 17:36Speaker 2: if people are just like, hey, I want to get
- 17:38Speaker 2: involved and donate, there'll be some opportunities.
- 17:41Speaker 3: We are building out. We're building this.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Year a lot of our workforce stuff. So we're going
- 17:46Speaker 2: to be building out a course. We're building out a
- 17:49Speaker 2: more extensive course on training people how to work and
- 17:52Speaker 2: that's gonna we want to do that not just with
- 17:55Speaker 2: our people in house. That's where we're starting and working
- 17:58Speaker 2: out the kinks with our people in the houses, but
- 18:01Speaker 2: we want to offer that to the community soon as well.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So those those are things this year that are going
- 18:05Speaker 2: to develop. Well, We'll have lots of room for volunteers
- 18:08Speaker 2: on some of that. It will require a lot of
- 18:10Speaker 2: volunteers and partners. I know I've talked with Brad about
- 18:15Speaker 2: I'm going to be pulling him in probably some things
- 18:17Speaker 2: on that as we're looking for helping helping people find
- 18:20Speaker 2: jobs and some of that's going to be a key component.
- 18:22Speaker 2: But so there's some of those things. But we're always
- 18:25Speaker 2: if someone wants to volunteer, they can always reach out
- 18:27Speaker 2: to us on our website too because there's always needs
- 18:30Speaker 2: of there's all kinds of random things that you know,
- 18:34Speaker 2: administrative tasks to meeting with people, mentoring relationships and those
- 18:38Speaker 2: kind of things.
- 18:39Speaker 3: But yeah, then donations are always apart, so we're always
- 18:42Speaker 3: open to that.
- 18:44Speaker 2: And we have our new thing too because we're we're
- 18:46Speaker 2: building a business that we're starting here called move It Junket,
- 18:50Speaker 2: So we are we are.
- 18:51Speaker 3: People want to put our people to work.
- 18:53Speaker 2: So this is kind of one of our new ventures recently,
- 18:56Speaker 2: and so we're doing some like movie moving services like
- 19:00Speaker 2: local moving, junk removal, clean up, clean out your garage,
- 19:03Speaker 2: and spring cleaning time or a little handyman things, lots
- 19:06Speaker 2: of any springdom yes, any any kind of stuff.
- 19:10Speaker 3: We can say we got several you.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Know, handy, hard working kind of people that we know
- 19:13Speaker 2: we can turn loose on some of these jobs. So
- 19:18Speaker 2: we're you know, you can reach out to us on
- 19:20Speaker 2: our on our website as well on that We're going
- 19:22Speaker 2: to be putting a little more out coming up soon,
- 19:26Speaker 2: but even just calling our office if you had a
- 19:28Speaker 2: job that you need to do, our guys would be
- 19:30Speaker 2: thrilled to get to work, right, So we're trying to
- 19:33Speaker 2: build some of that in house that allows us to
- 19:36Speaker 2: give them employment and pay them, but it also gives us.
- 19:40Speaker 2: When they can work for us, we can be training
- 19:42Speaker 2: them at the same time. That's what the more we
- 19:44Speaker 2: can do it ourselves, we can be in there with
- 19:46Speaker 2: them and help them learning a job, work ethic, learning
- 19:50Speaker 2: how to function in the job situation. Some of them
- 19:53Speaker 2: have just never done. So they need a boss that
- 19:55Speaker 2: can say, hey, this is how you need a function
- 19:58Speaker 2: right here. If you do this out job out there,
- 20:00Speaker 2: they're not going to want you. Yeah, you're going to
- 20:03Speaker 2: get fired if you act like this right And they don't,
- 20:06Speaker 2: you know, when they're kind of like standing around, they
- 20:08Speaker 2: don't know how to do anything, and.
- 20:09Speaker 3: It's like no one's ever pushed them.
- 20:11Speaker 2: So we get a chance to push them and show
- 20:13Speaker 2: them like, hey, if you want to be successful, this
- 20:15Speaker 2: is how.
- 20:15Speaker 3: You're going to have to do it.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And that's a beautiful thing to see them kind of
- 20:19Speaker 2: open up. So it serves both a function for us
- 20:23Speaker 2: of creating jobs. It raises some money for the nonprofit,
- 20:27Speaker 2: but it also like job training, we can do it
- 20:31Speaker 2: in action with them, So the more we can do that,
- 20:33Speaker 2: so if you got jobs, definitely.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm a single girl living in Bartlesville and just
- 20:42Speaker 1: moved here and I have my headlights out on my
- 20:45Speaker 1: car and.
- 20:45Speaker 3: I'm like, who do I call to fix this?
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean, those are the kind of things that you're
- 20:50Speaker 1: talking about, and like, yeah, well, you know, drive.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Them over there and we and yeah, and I think
- 20:57Speaker 2: you know, I heard recently I've been talking to a
- 20:59Speaker 2: couple of real that I know and they were like.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Oh, there's a big backlog of moving services needed around here.
- 21:04Speaker 2: There's a lot of local moving stuff that people and
- 21:06Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, well.
- 21:07Speaker 3: We would gladly do that.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Like we got guys that they can carry heavy stuff,
- 21:11Speaker 2: they can load it up, you know, even just unloading
- 21:14Speaker 2: someone's you know it's a storage facility or different things
- 21:18Speaker 2: like that sometimes. And like I said, I know it's
- 21:20Speaker 2: getting the spring cleaning time. I've had somebody already that
- 21:22Speaker 2: told me this week, like I've got a whole bunch
- 21:24Speaker 2: of junk that you know, from a grandfather that passed away,
- 21:28Speaker 2: that's in our garage that we just need somebody to
- 21:30Speaker 2: haul this stuff off.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Yes, we will haul it.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Off and we'll figure out what to do with it,
- 21:34Speaker 2: what needs to be recycled and junked and whatever.
- 21:36Speaker 3: So a little job like that where it's just hey,
- 21:39Speaker 3: this would help somebody come by. We would love to
- 21:41Speaker 3: do that kind of stuff so great, So yes we would.
- 21:44Speaker 3: We're always happy.
- 21:45Speaker 2: If if somebody wants to call us for that kind
- 21:47Speaker 2: of stuff and just reach out to us, somebody that
- 21:50Speaker 2: just cares about our vision. I like being creative too,
- 21:54Speaker 2: So if I find somebody that's just like man, I
- 21:57Speaker 2: love what you're doing.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I want to be part of it somehow.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I would have loved to brainstorm and just figure out, hey,
- 22:02Speaker 2: because there's a lot of us wearing multiple hats right now,
- 22:06Speaker 2: So there's there. And so I find somebody that has
- 22:10Speaker 2: a certain skill set. You never know what it might be.
- 22:13Speaker 2: That could be like, hey, I know about billying kind
- 22:15Speaker 2: of stuff, and I'll be like, you know what, that
- 22:17Speaker 2: would take that off of this person. Like we would
- 22:20Speaker 2: gladly have somebody to come in and fill those gaps.
- 22:22Speaker 2: So when we meet people, the biggest criteria for me
- 22:25Speaker 2: is people who just love the kind of people we're
- 22:27Speaker 2: working with, that see them and are like, man, I
- 22:30Speaker 2: want to get involved in And then there's always room
- 22:33Speaker 2: for these people.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well tell us about the paddle for
- 22:41Speaker 1: a purpose. Well, I say paddle. There is a conflict.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I've heard it called padel and I've also heard it
- 22:48Speaker 1: called paddle. I don't know what your opinion is on that.
- 22:54Speaker 3: I've always said battle, but I am the wrong person
- 22:56Speaker 3: asking that.
- 22:57Speaker 2: I am not the pickleball fanatic myself. So we've got
- 23:00Speaker 2: we've got some around us that are that had a
- 23:03Speaker 2: passion for this, that are I know some pickleball fanatics
- 23:06Speaker 2: that have been putting this on. Yeah, I am not
- 23:09Speaker 2: a I've never played pickleball, so I am I am
- 23:13Speaker 2: the wrong person to know.
- 23:14Speaker 3: And now I get all these terminologies.
- 23:15Speaker 1: From Saturday, March twenty eighth, it looks like you probably should.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I know.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I'm like, I need to educate myself because I'm going
- 23:21Speaker 2: to sound like they're gonna be like, he doesn't.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Know any of the tournament. You know, I don't know
- 23:25Speaker 3: how the kitchen works or any of that kind of stuff.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I hear these things, now, stay out of the kitchen.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I'm lost, right, But but it's gonna be fun.
- 23:32Speaker 2: We've got we had some people associated part of our
- 23:36Speaker 2: board and some other people that were like, we want
- 23:38Speaker 2: to put on a fundraiser, and I was like, you know,
- 23:41Speaker 2: so there was some brainstorm.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And they're like, we really want to do a pickleball tournament,
- 23:44Speaker 3: and I'm like, all right, let's go. Yeah. So we
- 23:47Speaker 3: have we have people that just love pickleball and wanted
- 23:49Speaker 3: to do one locally.
- 23:50Speaker 2: So so this is kind of a fundraiser for us,
- 23:52Speaker 2: but it's also hey, some of our you know, pickleball
- 23:55Speaker 2: fanatics really want another local tournament. So that's Saturday, March
- 23:59Speaker 2: twenty eighth. So we've had a lot of great sponsors
- 24:02Speaker 2: including you guys Done Just Toyo has been one of
- 24:06Speaker 2: our number of sponsors, those Age Casino and you know,
- 24:09Speaker 2: Chnico Phillos. We've had a bunch of these that have
- 24:11Speaker 2: come in and jumped into sponsor which has been fun.
- 24:14Speaker 2: And with all of that, are our sponsors coming on now,
- 24:18Speaker 2: we're ready. We're in the kind of sign up phase
- 24:20Speaker 2: now where we're just hey, signing up teams.
- 24:22Speaker 3: We're hoping to have a big tournament, so we're I.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Think they've said we're going to try to cap it
- 24:28Speaker 2: at forty teams, so wow, which is pretty good size.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Yeah so but yeah, so if they if they go
- 24:38Speaker 2: to our website.
- 24:39Speaker 3: In them CDC dot com, they'll see a link for
- 24:41Speaker 3: paddle for a Purpose. So if you're a pickleball fanatic
- 24:43Speaker 3: and you or even if you're there's all levels.
- 24:47Speaker 2: We are doing different levels, so we'll have some of
- 24:49Speaker 2: the real high end people but other people that are
- 24:52Speaker 2: new to the sport.
- 24:53Speaker 3: It's just going to be fun.
- 24:55Speaker 2: That's that'll be all day. The registration will be at
- 24:59Speaker 2: seven thirty it starts to adm. It'll run probably a
- 25:01Speaker 2: good part of the day that day. But yeah, if
- 25:04Speaker 2: you want to sign up, good to a website. It's
- 25:06Speaker 2: sixty dollars per person to sign up for your ticket,
- 25:11Speaker 2: and yeah, come join us. I think it'll be a
- 25:14Speaker 2: great time. We're excited to kind of put you out
- 25:17Speaker 2: and we say it's for a purpose because this is
- 25:19Speaker 2: this is blessing our participants. People come out, they have fun,
- 25:23Speaker 2: but it also our people are going to be out
- 25:25Speaker 2: there working. You know, we're going to have our participants
- 25:28Speaker 2: out help and set stuff up. They're gonna you know,
- 25:30Speaker 2: I'll be out there, you know, meeting people and stuff
- 25:33Speaker 2: like that. So if you want to meet some of
- 25:34Speaker 2: the people from NEMIA and stuff like that, get to
- 25:36Speaker 2: know us a little bit too. That's it's an opportunity
- 25:38Speaker 2: to kind of hang out and we can talk about, you.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Know, what we do.
- 25:43Speaker 1: And this is at Hillcrest Country Club, So if you
- 25:47Speaker 1: want to register, you can obviously, like you mentioned, go
- 25:50Speaker 1: to their website at Neiamiyah House or a Niamiyah CDC
- 25:54Speaker 1: dot com. Correct thank you for sharing your story. I
- 25:59Speaker 1: think that it's incredible work that you guys are doing,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and really conversations like this really do remind us why
- 26:08Speaker 1: we do what we do and how we separate ourselves
- 26:10Speaker 1: in the community that obviously, restoration and.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Hope is always possible.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So we really really appreciate what you guys are doing.
- 26:20Speaker 1: And if you have any questions, you can obviously call
- 26:22Speaker 1: Neemayah or you can call Dunge Toyota and we're happy
- 26:25Speaker 1: to help. They've been a great partner with us in
- 26:29Speaker 1: the past and we just want to continue that support
- 26:33Speaker 1: for you guys. Is there anything else that you would
- 26:36Speaker 1: like to close with?
- 26:40Speaker 3: I don't know. I just I don't know. I don't
- 26:43Speaker 3: have anything else. Yeah, but this has been great. I
- 26:46Speaker 3: really appreciate it.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys are You're definitely doing the work, that's
- 26:50Speaker 1: for sure. If someone is listening today and feels kind
- 26:53Speaker 1: of stuck or broken or like they've made obviously too
- 26:58Speaker 1: many mistakes, we talked before the show to start over,
- 27:03Speaker 1: what would you want them to hear?
- 27:04Speaker 2: It's not too late to start over like there. Honestly,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I've had people tell us, you know, we were just
- 27:12Speaker 2: recording a testimonial here from one of our guys that's
- 27:14Speaker 2: in our program right now, and he was saying like
- 27:17Speaker 2: it was weird for him that when he came and
- 27:20Speaker 2: told us how broken his life was and all the
- 27:22Speaker 2: mistakes that he made, that it made us.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Like feel closer to him. That we were like, yes,
- 27:26Speaker 3: you're ready for us.
- 27:27Speaker 2: And it's like that having a mess is actually kind
- 27:30Speaker 2: of a prerequisite in our program.
- 27:32Speaker 3: It's normal.
- 27:33Speaker 2: What I want is people to be open and honest
- 27:35Speaker 2: about it and ready to change it right. And you
- 27:37Speaker 2: don't have to know how to fix it, but it's
- 27:39Speaker 2: I'm ready to work, right, That's really what we're looking for.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I don't people come in with some really big messes
- 27:46Speaker 2: in their life that it may take a while to
- 27:48Speaker 2: fix and you may it may take six months or
- 27:50Speaker 2: a year or something, and we're ready to do that.
- 27:53Speaker 2: So when whatever they need, like there's always hope if
- 27:58Speaker 2: and we're always open to meet with them, they can
- 28:01Speaker 2: go in our webs there's an application or website and
- 28:03Speaker 2: the car Our office and we'll we'll meet with them
- 28:05Speaker 2: and see what we can help them be awesome.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Well, thank you Mike for being with us. Find us
- 28:09Speaker 1: a dungeus Toyota, call me into my house and we
- 28:13Speaker 1: will be there for you.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Thanks for listening to one on one with a professional
- 28:20Speaker 3: A paid presentation at fourteen hundred K one
