Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: What's up, everybody, and welcome to JFK Book Reviews, a
- 0:05Speaker 1: division of the Lonengoming Podcast. I am Big Bad Bob
- 0:08Speaker 1: Rob Clark along with me as always, mister Joe BURRELLI hello,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and today we are going to be reviewing the book
- 0:16Speaker 1: Someone Would Have Talked by Larry Hancock. Some of you
- 0:25Speaker 1: may have heard of him before. He's very prolific in
- 0:27Speaker 1: the community. He's been on our show a couple of times,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and he is a very nice person and he does
- 0:36Speaker 1: incredible work. And this book Someone would Have Talked, I believe,
- 0:42Speaker 1: was his first fora into the JFK assassination, and it
- 0:46Speaker 1: was published by JFK Lancer Publications. A couple of times
- 0:53Speaker 1: it appears, the first one being in two thousand and
- 0:55Speaker 1: three in a plastic binder edition that included a CD
- 0:59Speaker 1: ROM with all relevant documents that was only three hundred
- 1:03Speaker 1: and twenty pages long. This edition I'm holding in my
- 1:06Speaker 1: hand is from two thousand and six, and this bad
- 1:09Speaker 1: Man Magama is six hundred pages long.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Oh thick boy.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And I believe it was reprinted again in twenty
- 1:16Speaker 1: ten or twenty eleven as well. You can pick up
- 1:20Speaker 1: a hardback copy over on Amazon for roughly anywhere from
- 1:25Speaker 1: eleven to twenty bucks. It is on Kendle for twelve fifty.
- 1:30Speaker 1: The early early edition I spoke of is called a
- 1:32Speaker 1: plastic Comb for some reason, Joe, and it is available
- 1:36Speaker 1: on Amazon.
- 1:37Speaker 2: For forty dollars.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And there's also a paperback version as well that I
- 1:43Speaker 1: think you can pick up for somewhere in the teens money.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Wise, dollar wise.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But yeah, this book has nineteen chapters, it's broken up
- 1:53Speaker 1: into several different sections, and it does contain appendices, indexes,
- 2:02Speaker 1: end notes, footnotes, footnotes to the appendices, But like I said,
- 2:10Speaker 1: all in all, it's like six hundred pages. Larry himself,
- 2:18Speaker 1: he's a graduate of the University of New Mexico. He
- 2:22Speaker 1: has a bachelor's in history, cultural anthropology, and education. He
- 2:28Speaker 1: was also in the United States Air Force. He pursued
- 2:31Speaker 1: a career in technical education, computer communications, and technology marketing.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And he also is a self professed document geek, as
- 2:41Speaker 1: I think we all are Joe in some form or fashion,
- 2:45Speaker 1: And I believe he at this point had somewhere in
- 2:47Speaker 1: the neighborhood of thirteen or fourteen, maybe even fifteen books
- 2:52Speaker 1: under his belt about all different aspects of shadow warfare.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The Martin Luther King assassin Nation, the Robert Kennedy RFK assassination,
- 3:03Speaker 1: the JFK assassination. So yeah, it's a lot. Larry has
- 3:09Speaker 1: definitely been busy and he still is. That is a
- 3:13Speaker 1: bless his heart. Yes, I would say Larry Hancock is
- 3:20Speaker 1: one of the excuse me, one of the few legit
- 3:27Speaker 1: credible people that I and I'm just speaking for myself here,
- 3:33Speaker 1: but I think Joe will agree. Who is one of
- 3:38Speaker 1: the most knowledgeable, one of the most saying, one of
- 3:45Speaker 1: the most giving with his time and information and knowledge
- 3:51Speaker 1: on the case. You know, he's one of these guys
- 3:54Speaker 1: you can pick up the phone or shoot him an
- 3:56Speaker 1: email if you have a question. He's more than happy
- 3:58Speaker 1: to answer it. He's been more than happy to come
- 4:01Speaker 1: on our show and talk about everything. And you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: he's been a staple with JFK Lancer for over twenty years.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So to me, he's credible. To me, he's one of
- 4:12Speaker 1: the good guys. And this book mainly focuses on something
- 4:19Speaker 1: that the loan nutters try to use as an argument
- 4:21Speaker 1: when they throw something in our faces. They say, well,
- 4:24Speaker 1: you know, if it was a conspiracy, surely someone would
- 4:27Speaker 1: have talked, right, I mean, that's the rub here, you know, right.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And the beautiful thing about this book is that Larry
- 4:35Speaker 1: Hancock throws it back in the loan nutters' faces and say,
- 4:39Speaker 1: you know what, you're right, someone would have talked. And
- 4:41Speaker 1: in fact, here's a bunch of people that did talk.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Now we have almost the hindsight of twenty some years
- 4:50Speaker 1: now since Larry's wrote this book, and there are some
- 4:53Speaker 1: things that don't age well that have come out, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 1: in recent past that kind of discredit some of these witnesses,
- 5:02Speaker 1: if you will, who talked. But I think overall, you know,
- 5:08Speaker 1: I love I love his writing style, Joe. It's just great.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And he definitely is on the conspiracy side of things,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you know. And that's a beautiful thing about his book.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You know. I always recommend this book to loan nutters
- 5:25Speaker 1: and say, when you can answer the questions in this book,
- 5:28Speaker 1: come talk to me.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 3: It definitely has a conspiracy lean And as you mentioned,
- 5:37Speaker 3: Larry Hancock has been on our show a couple of times.
- 5:41Speaker 2: He is very generous with his time.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I actually spoke to him a couple of weeks ago.
- 5:46Speaker 3: We said we're going to catch up really quickly ended
- 5:48Speaker 3: up being an hour and a half conversation.
- 5:51Speaker 2: He's just a nice guy.
- 5:52Speaker 3: He's one of the good guys, like you said, and
- 5:56Speaker 3: I think you stole my thunder a little bit with
- 5:58Speaker 3: what was the point of was the author's goal in
- 6:01Speaker 3: this book, which was to push back on someone would
- 6:06Speaker 3: have talked by providing a number of instances of people
- 6:10Speaker 3: who did talk. Just to quote some of the prefaces
- 6:16Speaker 3: you will find buried history in this book and in
- 6:19Speaker 3: the hundreds of pages of documents which are being made
- 6:21Speaker 3: available with it for reference, you will also find a
- 6:24Speaker 3: response to the other two common challenges regarding the concept
- 6:27Speaker 3: of conspiracy, the first being that we just talked to
- 6:31Speaker 3: about if there had been a conspiracy, someone could have
- 6:34Speaker 3: definitely talked, would have definitely talked, right, can't keep secret?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Everyone can't keep a secret.
- 6:42Speaker 3: The second being that a conspiracy could remain secret for
- 6:45Speaker 3: over forty years and would have to be so good
- 6:47Speaker 3: to be unbelievable. So Larry comes out swinging here rob
- 6:54Speaker 3: first chapter John Martino story, And if you aren't familiar
- 6:59Speaker 3: with our podcast, John Martino is definitely someone of immense
- 7:03Speaker 3: interest to us, and probably one of the best examples
- 7:08Speaker 3: of someone having for knowledge of the JFK assassination, being
- 7:12Speaker 3: both a mafioso imprison by Cuba in Cuba by Castro
- 7:19Speaker 3: and when released, joined the anti Castro Cuban efforts, respected
- 7:25Speaker 3: and trusted by all factions that I believe could be
- 7:28Speaker 3: involved in the conspiracy to assassinate JFK. He talked with
- 7:37Speaker 3: Edward Martino, which was the son of John Martino, who
- 7:41Speaker 3: contacted Larry actually, and they exchanged a lot of information.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Was able to get kind of firsthand testimony from his
- 7:51Speaker 3: son of how he was told to stay home from
- 7:53Speaker 3: school that day and to let him know if anything
- 7:55Speaker 3: came on the news, right, And of course that I
- 7:58Speaker 3: think the book starts out with, They're gonna kill him Flow,
- 8:01Speaker 3: They're gonna kill him when.
- 8:02Speaker 2: He when he goes to Dallas, I'm paraphrasing. He also
- 8:06Speaker 2: talks about other.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Persons of interest close to our heart, Vidal Santiago, Roy Hargraves.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Of course, chapter eight is all about David Morales, another
- 8:19Speaker 3: person of enormous interest and suspicion to those in the
- 8:23Speaker 3: critical thinking JFK community. Obviously, Morales had a senior position at.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Jam Wave.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Definitely did not like Kennedy say he was trader to
- 8:35Speaker 3: his country and later remarked to a friend of having
- 8:41Speaker 3: helped to take care of that s ob he gets
- 8:45Speaker 3: into the Castro plots, goes into John Roselle, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 3: all all the things that check the boxes for us.
- 8:58Speaker 3: So before I give my thoughts, Rob, I'm gonna throw
- 9:03Speaker 3: it back to you to get your rating, and then
- 9:05Speaker 3: I'll give mine and final thoughts.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Alrighty yeah, Like on the back cover of this book,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, it says this book is full of slips,
- 9:13Speaker 1: boasts and secrets, and it is. You know, there's things
- 9:20Speaker 1: that people say accidentally, like it slips out and they're like, oh,
- 9:23Speaker 1: maybe I shouldn't have said that.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Or on the converse side of things, there's people who
- 9:30Speaker 1: like to brag a little bit, Joe, you know about
- 9:32Speaker 1: some things that they might have done, or some things
- 9:36Speaker 1: that they might not have done but might want to
- 9:39Speaker 1: take credit for.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Right. It's a few of them.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know, of course, only one person can
- 9:49Speaker 1: keep a secret, or two people can Two people can
- 9:52Speaker 1: keep a secret if one of them is dead. So
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know, when it comes to secrets, eventually some get
- 9:58Speaker 1: out here and there. So I think Larry did a
- 10:03Speaker 1: wonderful job crafting this book and putting it together. This
- 10:06Speaker 1: comes off of the heels of the extensive work of
- 10:10Speaker 1: the A R r B and all of the documents
- 10:15Speaker 1: that got released in the nineties. Larry was able to
- 10:18Speaker 1: comb through him and come up with some really great stuff,
- 10:20Speaker 1: new stuff, and he relied heavily on the work of
- 10:27Speaker 1: Anna mariek Coons Wilco. She was kind of like the
- 10:31Speaker 1: female version of Malcolm Blunt, you know, staying at the archives.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And maybe they shared an apartment together. I don't know,
- 10:38Speaker 1: none of.
- 10:38Speaker 2: My business, but my business split up costs they shared it.
- 10:47Speaker 1: What are they called airbnb? Yeah, before it was cool,
- 10:50Speaker 1: you know, oh lord no, But I mean, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: this is one of the first books of two thousands
- 11:00Speaker 1: that that really made you think, okay, and it kind
- 11:08Speaker 1: of makes sense.
- 11:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He doesn't explicitly implicate anybody. He simply lays it out
- 11:14Speaker 1: in a very informative fashion that allows you to make
- 11:16Speaker 1: up your own mind and do further research on the
- 11:20Speaker 1: people that he puts forth who did talk, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and you can go down these various rabbit holes and
- 11:28Speaker 1: either you know, look further or just dismiss things from
- 11:33Speaker 1: certain people. But it's one of my favorite books on
- 11:37Speaker 1: the assassination. When people ask me what to read, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: always it's always in the recommendation list. You know what
- 11:43Speaker 1: I mean, Joe, I mean, but it's not it's not
- 11:46Speaker 1: a starter level book. I mean you got to have
- 11:49Speaker 1: a little bit of knowledge about you know, a lot
- 11:53Speaker 1: of the fringe players, a lot of the CIA operatives,
- 11:57Speaker 1: a lot of the anti Castro Cuban community, the mafia.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, education on how the intelligence community works and operates.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, you got to have a little bit of background.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I would say if you, if you don't know much
- 12:10Speaker 1: about the assassination, don't start with this book, but definitely
- 12:13Speaker 1: fit it in somewhere.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Joe, Sure, get it in.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Get it in because it's a good one. I think
- 12:20Speaker 1: it holds up pretty decently. So with that being said,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm going to give this book Joe a strong, strong,
- 12:34Speaker 1: strong nine out of ten. Guns up, baby, Wow, what
- 12:47Speaker 1: say you, sir?
- 12:49Speaker 2: Well?
- 12:52Speaker 3: You might think Rob and I talk about our scores
- 12:54Speaker 3: before we record this, but we don't. It's it's a
- 12:58Speaker 3: great book and like you mentioned, and not for probably
- 13:03Speaker 3: the first book you're going to read on the JFK assassination,
- 13:06Speaker 3: but it definitely is pretty close to identifying a lot
- 13:12Speaker 3: of the players that I believe are in the book.
- 13:16Speaker 3: You know, there is some focus on like people like
- 13:18Speaker 3: Richard case Miguel, which you know, I'm not huge his
- 13:22Speaker 3: huge on his claims. But there is a first edition copy,
- 13:27Speaker 3: interestingly enough, an interview with Roy Hargraves and Jerry Patrick,
- 13:35Speaker 3: Hemming's brother that was taken out. It was actually the
- 13:38Speaker 3: first appendix. It's a thirty nine page document that is
- 13:41Speaker 3: available on the interwebs if you search hard enough.
- 13:46Speaker 2: That he was asked to take out. Maybe a little
- 13:48Speaker 2: too revealing.
- 13:50Speaker 3: We've gone over it on our podcast before, but that's
- 13:54Speaker 3: definitely interesting, and you know, it's it's a huge resource.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I think he says in it back in two thousand
- 14:06Speaker 3: and three in the first edition that Oswalt was framed
- 14:11Speaker 3: by and I'm paraphrasing this like anticsher Cubans, he got
- 14:16Speaker 3: involved with the wrong type of crowd, And to me,
- 14:20Speaker 3: that still holds up over twenty years.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Later, in two thousand and three first edition.
- 14:28Speaker 3: His latest book is Over my Shoulder and one of
- 14:33Speaker 3: my favorite. Maybe we will cover that in a future day,
- 14:37Speaker 3: but Rob, I'm also going to give this an extremely
- 14:40Speaker 3: solid nine Guns Up. It's a great book. I don't
- 14:47Speaker 3: know if any book by Larry would be.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Under a name. He's just that good of a researcher.
- 14:53Speaker 2: And I might be.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Biased because he's a friend, but definitely read it. If
- 14:57Speaker 3: you have not, you are missing out.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, give him my rating on this book because we
- 15:03Speaker 1: know Larry and he's a friend and he's been on
- 15:04Speaker 1: the show. This would be the rating if I had
- 15:07Speaker 1: never met or spoken to the man. Ever. That's how
- 15:10Speaker 1: much respect I have for his work and his books
- 15:14Speaker 1: and his research that goes into his books.
- 15:17Speaker 3: And the sourcing which I think we might have forgot
- 15:21Speaker 3: to mention, I mean, riff numbers everything.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, because when you're when you're pulling things like the
- 15:27Speaker 1: scraps that other authors didn't use in their books, you know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and you're like, yeah, send it to me. Uh, you know,
- 15:36Speaker 1: these things are kind of important when you you know,
- 15:38Speaker 1: what one person may think is not important or has
- 15:42Speaker 1: no bearing at all in the scenario or or anything really,
- 15:46Speaker 1: but it's it's an eyewitness who could have possibly been
- 15:50Speaker 1: there and who says some pretty inflammatory things, you know.
- 15:54Speaker 1: It's it's pretty cool that Larry gets his hands on
- 15:56Speaker 1: stuff like this and you know, there's just a ton
- 16:04Speaker 1: a ton of information to go through on this book.
- 16:07Speaker 2: And.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I think as far as tracks of perception when it
- 16:16Speaker 1: comes to what really happened that day in November twenty second,
- 16:20Speaker 1: nineteen sixty three to President Kennedy, that this is one
- 16:25Speaker 1: of the closest that any book comes to as far
- 16:30Speaker 1: as laying out a possible, believable, fathomable scenario. You know,
- 16:39Speaker 1: we've always said on the show, Hey, if somebody is
- 16:42Speaker 1: there behind the grassy knoll and they're looking down the
- 16:45Speaker 1: barrel of a rifle through the site, and President Kennedy
- 16:49Speaker 1: comes around the corner, and maybe they know they're gonna
- 16:52Speaker 1: shoot him, maybe they don't, but that's who comes around
- 16:55Speaker 1: the corner, and that's who's in the sight on that trigger.
- 17:00Speaker 1: For one of two reasons Joe ideology, because they believe
- 17:06Speaker 1: that having a dead John F. Kennedy is a better
- 17:10Speaker 1: than having a live one as president, or because they
- 17:15Speaker 1: felt wronged in some form or fashion, or they're doing
- 17:21Speaker 1: it for money and they think that they can get
- 17:24Speaker 1: away with it. There is no other options, you know,
- 17:29Speaker 1: other than the fact that you're a crazy person. You're
- 17:31Speaker 1: a lone nut who just decides one day, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: to bring a gun to work and shoot out the window.
- 17:39Speaker 1: To me, that's not a legit alternate universe that we
- 17:44Speaker 1: live in, Joe. But anyway, that's it for the book review.
- 17:48Speaker 1: If you dig that, you're going to love our show.
- 17:53Speaker 1: We do it live here on YouTube every Friday night
- 17:56Speaker 1: at seven pm and on Wednesday at seven pm live
- 18:00Speaker 1: for our channel members. So if you like this, you'll
- 18:04Speaker 1: like that, come check it out and check out our
- 18:07Speaker 1: last book review we did, Joe, I think it's going
- 18:09Speaker 1: to be over here, and then check out our podcast playlist.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I think it's going to be.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Somewhere over.
- 18:17Speaker 1: There, somewhere somewhere maybe if it works.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Maybe, and maybe the author we're talking about might be
- 18:26Speaker 3: on the show in a couple of months.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Never no, so stay tuned, slam the like button, make
- 18:34Speaker 1: sure to subscribe for more, and we'll see you next time.
