- 0:00Welcome back to Spy Trader , the podcast that helps you navigate the market fog before the first coffee hits .
- 0:06I'm your host , Barry Bucks , and we’re live .
- 0:09It's 5 am on Thursday , November 20th , 2025 , Pacific time , and we have liftoff .
- 0:16After four brutal losing sessions , the bulls are back , fueled by massive , marketmoving earnings .
- 0:22We are definitely seeing riskon momentum this morning .
- 0:25Let's start with the key news driving this surge .
- 0:29US stock futures are climbing across the board , led by the techheavy Nasdaq 100 , which is currently up a stunning one point eight percent in the premarket .
- 0:38The S&P 500 futures are also riding the wave , up about one point three percent .
- 0:44This move is all about one word : Nvidia .
- 0:47The world’s most valuable publicly traded company handily beat analyst expectations for both revenue and profit .
- 0:54CEO Jensen Huang even called the quarterly guidance ' crazy good ' .
- 1:00This report effectively calmed building fears of an ' AI bubble ' and has provided a significant uplift to the entire technology sector .
- 1:08Outside of tech , we’re seeing mixed signals in retail , but resilience is the theme .
- 1:14Walmart had a strong quarter , driven by essential items like food and health sales , suggesting consumers are prioritizing staples .
- 1:22Lowe's and TJX also reported betterthanexpected results , indicating some strength remains in offprice and home improvement segments .
- 1:32However , we can’t forget the fog surrounding the Federal Reserve .
- 1:36The 43day government shutdown has delayed critical reports like the September jobs numbers and October CPI data .
- 1:44This means the Fed , which just cut rates to the three point seven five to four point zero percent range in late October , is flying blind .
- 1:55FOMC minutes show officials are split on a December rate cut , keeping the 10Year Treasury Yield relatively flat around four point thirteen percent as the bond market tries to reconcile a hawkishleaning Chairman Powell with missing data .
- 2:08Now , let’s synthesize this .
- 2:11We are currently navigating a powerful structural force — the microeconomic strength of AI — which is driving Technology ( XLK ) to a twentyone percent yeartodate gain .
- 2:23This strength is battling the macroeconomic uncertainty caused by the Fed's stance and the data vacuum .
- 2:30The Invesco QQQ Trust is the clearest winner here , but the concentration risk is real .
- 2:36For your portfolio , this dictates a twopronged strategy .
- 2:40First , maintain core exposure but absolutely lean into that AIdriven growth .
- 2:47We recommend holding a foundation of the broader market with the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF , VOO , but overweight the Nasdaq 100 via QQQ .
- 2:58For pure exposure to the engine room , Nvidia itself is the stock example reaffirming its critical position .
- 3:06Second , you must hedge against the macro uncertainty .
- 3:09Look for selective defensive and cyclical exposure .
- 3:14Utilities ( XLU ) and Industrials ( XLI ) have shown surprising strength and provide stability and income .
- 3:21Increase your exposure to the Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLU , as a defensive measure .
- 3:29And in consumer stocks , stick with flighttoquality names like Walmart , WMT , which is proving resilient because people always need food .
- 3:39Finally , regarding bonds , the broad diversification of the iShares Core U.S.
- 3:44Aggregate Bond ETF , AGG , remains your stabilizing anchor .
- 3:50Given the uncertainty , it is prudent to retain a slightly higherthanaverage cash position until we get reliable economic data back on the calendar .
- 3:59That's all the time we have for this early morning episode .
- 4:03Trade safe out there , and I’ll catch you on the next turn .
