Transcript
- 0:07Believe it or not, we're getting ready for season four of the podcast.
- 0:11Four years. Honestly, when I started diving,
- 0:15I wasn't sure I would make it through four episodes, let alone four seasons.
- 0:19Thanks to all of you who have listened, shared episodes, and joined us
- 0:22in this journey. We're still here and still diving in
- 0:26in some of the biggest issues in education and disability. And because
- 0:30you have stuck with us, I decided to make a dangerous promise.
- 0:36Season four will feature not one, but two episodes every
- 0:40month. Yes, people, I said it. I can't take it back. I have absolutely
- 0:45no idea where I'm gonna find the time. Maybe I'll cut back on eating,
- 0:49maybe sleep less. Maybe I'll stop spending all
- 0:53those hours building intricate origami sculptures. Actually,
- 0:57that's not true. I cannot do origamis. My fine motor skills
- 1:01are. Let's say my fingers do not work as a
- 1:05team when it comes to arts or craft. So maybe
- 1:10I've been thinking I'll just sue my kindergarten teacher. Then I remember
- 1:14I spent most of my art class trying to sneak outside and play soccer.
- 1:18So maybe the problem wasn't the teacher, and I don't know how that's gonna help
- 1:21me in court. Wow, this trailer just turned into a free therapy
- 1:25session. Anyway, after the success of our overrepresentation
- 1:31series in season three, I have decided to tackle another controversial complex
- 1:35and often divides a topic in the education of students with inclusive
- 1:40education. For decades, educators, researchers and
- 1:44advocates have debated where and how students with disabilities should learn.
- 1:48Should all students be educated in the general education classroom?
- 1:51Are there circumstances where specialized settings are necessary?
- 1:56What does inclusion actually mean? And perhaps most
- 2:00importantly, how do we create schools where all students belong
- 2:04and thrive? These questions have shaped the field for years,
- 2:08and they continue to generate passionate debates today.
- 2:13So in season four, we are diving
- 2:16in. Over the past several weeks, I took
- 2:20a break from watching the World Cup. I mean, for writing academic papers,
- 2:24just in case my dean is listening. And I've been interviewing some of
- 2:28the most influential scholars and thinkers in the field.
- 2:31I have interviewed Doug Fuchs, David Connor,
- 2:34James Basch, and Mel Ensko, Valentina Miguerini,
- 2:37and several others. That would be a surprise.
- 2:42And we're not just talking people who agree with one another. Let's get this
- 2:45clear. As we did in overrepresentation series,
- 2:49we'll hear from voices across the debate and everywhere in
- 2:53between. We explore the history of inclusive education,
- 2:56disability studies and education, intensive interventions,
- 3:00disability rights, educational policy, and much more. Beginning in
- 3:04July, I will bring you two episodes each month throughout summer and fall.
- 3:09Whether you are a researcher, a teacher, a student,
- 3:12a policymaker, a family member, a student with disability, or someone
- 3:16interested in creating more inclusive schools, this series
- 3:20you won't want to miss. So get
- 3:24ready. Season four is coming, and we
- 3:27are about to dive in.
